ANTI THEFT SYSTEM ACTIVATES, VEHICLE CANNOT BE STARTED. THIS HAS HAPPENED 18 TIMES. DEALER HAS TO RESET THE SYSTEM.*AK
TL* - THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM ENGAGESDFOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE CONTACT STATED SHE HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO DEALE R 4 TIMES FOR THIS FAILURE. THE DEALER HAS REPROGRAMMED THE CRANKSHAFT, RESET SENSORS AND REPROGRAMMED THE PASS LOCK SYSTETHE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY AND ALSO THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT WILL FLASH AS AN INDICATION THAT THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEMWAS NOT GOING TO ENGAGE. THE CONTACT STATED THIS HAS HAPPENED QUITE FREQUENTLY IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS. THE CONTACT STATED SOMEONE HAS TOLD HER HOW TO BYPASS THE FAILURE, BUT SHE FELT THIS WAS A SAFETY PROBLEM. *AK
FRONT BRAKES ROTORS AND PADS WENT BAD PRIOR TO 29,173 MILES. CALLED DEALER ABOUT PROBLEM, TOLD THEM 25,000+/- MILES WAS TOO SOON FOR BRAKES TO WEAR. DEALER SAID THEY MAKE BRAKES DIFFERENT NOW. DEALER WOULD NOT REPLACE THEM UNDER WARRENTY. ENDED UP REPLACING THEM AT MY OWN EXPENSE MYSELF. BRAKES STILL SCRAPE WHEN MOVING VEHICLE AT 5 MPH. AT 55-60 MPH AND PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL HARD VEHICLE WILL SHAKE VIGOROUSLY PULLING THE STEERING WHEEL OUT OF HAND. HAVE NOT DRIVEN MY VEHICLE SINCE MARCH 2002. TRYING TO SELL IT. ALMOST HAD IT SOLD WHEN THE PERSON BUYING THE CAR TALKED TO THE DEALER THAT SOLD ME MY CAR. THE SALESMAN AT THE DEALER SAID TO HER THAT HE WOULDN'T THINK OF SELLING HER A MALIBU AND THAT SHE SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM THEM. THE SALESMAN SAID THAT THE MALIBU HAS A LOT OF PROBLEMS, MOSTLY THE BRAKES AND IS BASICALLY A LEMON. CHEVROLET KNOWS ABOUT THE BRAKE PROBLEM ON EARLIER MODELS (98-00), BUT HAS YET TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. NOW I HAVE A CAR I CAN'T DRIVE OR SELL!*AK

VEHICLE MISSES AT SPEEDS OF 60-80MPH, VEHICLE JERKS WHEN IT BACKFIRES. DEALER CANNOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM.*AK
A KNOCKING NOISE WOULD COME FROM THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSE VEHICLE TO HESITATE WHEN ACCELERATING. DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME.*AK
THE FRONT END IS VIBRATING AT ANY SPEED. DEALER HAS DONE FRONT ALIGNMENT, REPLACED THE FRONT TIRES, AND THE ROTORS WERE TURNED. DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. *AK THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE DEALER WILL NOT REPLACE, BUT WILL ONLY TURN (THREE TIMES) TO BE TURNED LESS THAN THREE MONTHS. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE SEVENTH TIME THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR ONE PROBLEM OR ANOTHER, AND FEELS THAT THE VEHICLE IS A LEMON. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATES THAT THE DEALER HAD THE VEHICLE FOR TWELVE WEEKS FOR A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE ENGINE. A VALVE ADJUSTMENT SEEMS TO REMEDY, THE FRONT END VIBRATION STILL NOT REPAIREED. *SCC
DANGEROUS BRAKE ROTOR WARPAGE EVERY 16,000 MILES LIKE CLOCK WORK. CAUSES WEAK BRAKES AND EXTREME WARE TO FRONT END MOVING PARTS. NEW TOP OF THE LINE ROTORS AND PADS WILL NOT CURE PROBLEM. IT IS AN ENGINEERING SCREW UP. THIS IS AN ONGOING ENGINEERING PROBLEM AND WHY GM IS GOING BROKE. *TR
TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS FAILED DURING NORMAL OPERATION. DEALERSHIP EXAMINED VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH WAS THE CAUSE OF PROBLEM. *AK DEALER REPLACED HAZARD WARNING SWITCH. WEATHERSTRIP AROUND BOTH REAR SIDE WINDOWS DEFORMED, AS WELL AS BOTH DOOR PANELS, DEALER REPLACED WEATHERSTRIP AND DOOR PANELS, EXPERIENCING TICKING AND WHINNING NOISE FROM ENGINE, DEALER STATES THIS WAS NORMAL. *TT

ALL TURN SIGNALS STOP WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. TO GET THEM TO WORK CONSUMER HAS TO TURN ON HAZARD LIGHTS 4-5 TIMES TO GET TURN SIGNALS TO COME ON. DEALER CANNOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM.*AK
THE CAR MADE A HORRIBLE KNOCKING NOISE SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW. 5 DIFFERENT DEALERS STATED THAT THE TEFLON FROM THE ROCKER ARMS IN THE ENGINE WORE OUT AND THATW AS WHAT WAS MAKING THE AWFUL NOISE. ITWAS COSMETIC, SO TO FIX IT WOULD COST A LOT OF MONEY. *AK ALSO, THE INTAKE MANIFOLD ON THE CAR HAS CRACKED CAUSING THE ENGINE/RADIATOR TO LEAK ANIFREEZE OUT THE EXAUST. GM NEEDS TO RECALL THESE CARS BECAUSE OF ALL THE PROBLEMS. I CAN GO ON AND ON WITH MY CAR. I HAVE MAINTAINED IT EVERY 3,000 MILES METICOUSLY AND SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH A CAR THAT ONLY HAS 60,000 MILES.
SEAT BELT LATCH WILL NOT PROPERLY FASTEN INTO THE BUCKLE HOUSING, AND AT TIMES RELEASES, CAUSING SEAT BELT TO BECOME INOPERABLE, CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
CONSUMER STATED VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION, AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. UPON IMPACT, BOTH AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND ONE PERSON INJURED. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. *AK *YD
THE CAR'S CHECK-SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON REPEATEDLY SINCE I PURCHASED IT ON 14 NOVEMBER 2001. THE DEALER HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM OVER A DOZEN TIMES BUT IT CONTINUES TO BE A PROBLEM. IT WAS REPAIRED AGAIN ON 17 NOVEMBER 2003 AND FAILED AGAIN THE VERY NEXT DAY. *AK
TOOK CAR IN CAUSE OF KNOCKING IN ENGINE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID COULDNT HEAR IT WHEN PICKED THE CAR UP MADE HIM RIDE IN IT WITH ME COULD HEAR KNOCKING TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK.TOOK BACK WORK ORDER SAYS PISTON SLAP.DIAGNOISIS POLYMER COATED PISTONS SLAPPING INSIDE CLYINDERS;REPLACED ALL PISTONS,HONE CYLINDERS,REPLACED RINGS REPLACED ALLCONNECTING ROD BEARINGS.WATER PUMBM WENT OUT TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN A WEEK AND A HALF LATER CAR KEPT RUNNING HOT ALL THE WAY IN RED HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED INHOSES WERE NOT RECONNECTED WHEN MOTOR WAS WORKED ON CD PLAYER WENT OUT ALSO FACE OF CD PLAYER GETS EXTREMELY HOT TOLD ME THAT WAS NORMAL BLINKERS HAVE WENT OUT TWICE FIRST TIME SAID FIXED THEM STILL NOT WORKING NOW WHEN YOU CRANK CAR IT KNOCKS HAVE REPORTED IT IT IS DOING THE SAME THING WHEN HAD PISTONS REPLACED LASTED NOV.06OUT*AK
DT:HAS HAD TO REPLACE THREE DIFFERENT SETS OF TIRES BECAUSE THE TREAD HAS SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE AND THE RIM WILL NOT HOLD AIR. THE LAST TIME HE HAD THEM REPLACED THEY PUT TOO MUCH AIR IN THE TIRE AND ANOTHER DEALER CHECKED THE TIRE PRESSURE AND TOLD CALLER IT WAS DANGEROUS TO HAVE THAT MUCH AIR PRESSURE IN THE TIRES. NOW HE CAN'T GET IN TOUCH WITH FIRESTONE AT ALL AND THE DEALER WILL NO LONGER HELP OR GIVE HIM THE PHONE NUMBER TO FIRESTONE. *NM
ON THE 22ND OF OCTOBER MY VEHICLE HAD LOST ITS BRAKES WHILE TRAVELING DOWN A HILL. MY IMMEDIATE RESPONSE WAS TO APPLY MY EMERGENCY BRAKE WHICH DID STOP MY CAR BUT ALSO PROCEEDED TO CAUSE IT TO CRASH. UPON INVESTIGATION BY MY INS. CO. (NATIONWIDE INS.) THEY FOUND THAT BOTH FRONT BRAKE HOSES HAD FRAYED ON THE MALIBU WHICH HAD CAUSED ME TO LOSE MY BRAKES. FURTHER ACTION WILL BE TAKEN TO BE REIMBURSED FOR MY VEHICLE WHICH IS NOW CONSIDERED TOTALLED. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN TO OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME TYPE VEHICLE AND I AM FURTHER REQUESTING A RECALL ON THE HOSES OF THE MALIBU. A REPORT IS AVAILABLE FROM MY INS. WHILE DRIVING AND UPON MAKING RIGHT OR LEFT TURNS SIGNAL LIGHT WENT OUT. CONSUMER PUT THE SIGNAL LIGHT ON AND IT WENT OFF INTERMITTENTLY. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
CAR REPEATEDLY FAILS TO MAINTAIN SET SPEED AND ACCELERATES RAPIDLY WITHOUT WARNING WHICH ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. I HAD DEALER LOOK AT THE CRUISE CONTROL AND THEY SAID THIS IS NORMAL ON THIS MODEL. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET DIRECTLY (CASE: C04708022) AND THEY AGREED SAYING IT WAS SOMETHING I WOULD JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH.
DRIVER HEARD KNOCKING SOUND FROM ENGINE. TOOK TO WEBER CEVROLET AND PROBLEM WAS FIXED. PISTON AND PISTON RINGS WERE BAD. ONE WEEK LATER DRIVER HEARS POPPING NOISE FROM STEEERING COLUMN STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED. GOLD PACKAGE DECALS WERE FADING OFF AS WELL. DRIVER NOW HEARS KNOKING COMMING FROM ENGINE AGAIN.
VIBRATION AND PULSATING WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, GRINDING NOISE CAN BE HEARD. DEALER REPLACED FRONT ROTORS AND PADS. ROTORS WERE REPLACED A SECOND TIME IN OCTOBER 2001 FOR PREMATURE WEAR. *JG *AK

PROBLEM FIRST REPORTED ON 5 JUNE. CAR SPENT ALL DAY 6 JUNE AT THE DEALER THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM.JUNE 9 TRANSMISSION HAD PROBLEMS SHIFTING. JUNE 14 TRANSMISSON AT LOW SPEEDS IN HEAVY SHIFTED IN AND OUT OF GEAR.JUNE 14 CAR WENT TO THE DEALER AND AT THIS TIME IT IS STILL AT STAN ROBERTS CHEVROLET. I SHOULD NOT BE HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH LESS THAN 3000 MILES ON THE CAR. *AK
THE MALIBU WAS STRUCK IN THE REAR AT APPROXIMATELY 40MPH CAUSING A FRONT COLLISION AS WELL. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.*AK
ENGINE PISTONS REPLACED AT 2395 MILES DUE TO" PISTON SLAP". REPLACED ALL SIX PISTONS WITH TEFLON COATED ONES. PATCH AREAS ON OPPOSITE SIDES OF PISTON IN AREA WHERE THE MOST VIBRATION AND WEAR OCCURS. ALL SIX PISTONS SHOWED SIGNS OF SIGNIFICANT WEAR IN AREAS WHERE TEFLON ADDED. ADVISED BY DIFFERENT DEALER ASE CERTIFIED MECHANICS & SERVICE MANAGER THAT INSTALLING TEFLON COATED PISTONS IS JUST A SHORT-TERM STOP-GAP MEASURE AND THE PROBLEM WOULD RETURN. PHOTOS WERE TAKEN OF OLD PISTONS. BRAKES CONTINUE TO MAKE POPPING NOISE, LIKE CALIPERS ARE STICKING AND THERE IS NOTICABLE REDUCED BRAKING ON WET SURFACES. DEALER SAYS "NOTHING IS WRONG". RACK AND PINION FAILED INITIALLY AT 4044 MILES . REPLACED AND THE SAME SOUNDS AND FEEL HAS RETURNED. 24 DAYS OUT-OF-SERVICE TO DATE. WILL TAKE ACTION VIA LEMON LAW AFTER 6 MORE DAYS OUT-OF-SERVICE.*AK
CONSUMER STATES: ABS SYSTEM 11OO MILES BRAKES STARTED GRIDDING, AT 37000 HAD TO REPLACE MASTER CYCLINDER, ABS SYSTEM AND THE DRUM AND BRAKE LINES IN 2003 JULY AND IS GETTING WORSE. HAD NEW BRAKES PADS PUT ON AGAIN IN JANUARY 2005. NOW ABS COMING ON AGAIN FOR 2 OR 3 DAYS AT A TIME.
MY 2001 CHEVY MALIBU HAS AN ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM FEATURE ON IT. HOWEVER IT DOESN'T READ MY KEY RIGHT AND MOST OF THE TIME WON'T START. AND WHEN IT DOES START IT WILL OUT OF NOWHERE SHUT OFF WHILE IM DRIVING. THIS IS REALLY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY OR ON ANY ROAD REALLY, IT COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR EVEN A FATALITY. THIS IS A SERIOUS MATTER AND THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH AND APPARENTLY EVERY OTHER MALIBU OWNER HAS THE EXACT SAME PASS-LOCK THEFT SYSTEM PROBLEM. IT ONLY TAKES A MATTER OF TIME. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE IT REALLY NEEDS TO BE FIXED THIS IS MY ONLY CAR AND I CANT AFFORD THIS THANK YOU. *TR

THE VEHICLE WOULD TURN OVER BUT IT WOULDN'T START. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. WHEN ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE'S COOLANT LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK AT THE BY PASS PIPE AT THE LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD. THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE HAZARD AND TURN SIGNAL SWITCH WERE REPLACED. THE RIGHT OUTER TIE ROD WERE WORN LOOSE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE RIGHT OUTER TIE ROD ENDS AND SET THE FRONT END. THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BEARING WAS REPLACED. THE ABS MALFUNCTIONED. *NM
BRAKES ARE SPONGY. THERE IS A LOT OF PLAY IN THE BRAKES. WHEN APPLYING BRAKES HAS TO PRESS DOWN HARD TO STOP. BRAKES SOUND LIKE METAL TO METAL RUBBING WHEN APPLYING HARD. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER STATED COULDN'T GET VEHICLE TO DUPLICATE ITSELF.*AK

BROUGHT IN VEHICLE ON 03-21-2001 FOR BRAKES AND ENGINE NOISE. ADVISED BRAKES WERE "NORMAL" AGAIN, NO ACTION WAS TAKEN REGARDING BRAKES AFTER ROAD TEST BY DEALERSHIP. PISTONS NEEDING REPLACMENT CONSTITUTES A FAILURE OF MAJOR DRIVETRAIN COMPONENTS AND THIS VEHICLE WILL NOT BE CONSTRUED AS "SAFE". 2001 CHEVY MALIBU DIED WHILE DRIVING. ENGINE DIDN'T SPUTTER OR ANYTHING, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM JUST SWITCHED THE CAR OFF CAUSING A LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. CAR WAS FAIRLY COLD AS IT HAD ONLY BEEN RUNNING FOR A FEW MINUTES. SPECIFICALLY IT DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION DURING ACCELERATION AFTER A STOP. *NM
FROM THE INITIAL OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE IT SMELLED AS IF IT HAD A SLIGHT OIL LEAK ON THE EXHAUST. THE VEHICLE EMITTED A SLIGHT ODOR THAT CONTINUED TO GROW STRONGER AS THE CAR WAS DRIVEN MORE. AT NO TIME COULD AN OIL LEAK BE FOUND. THE CAR WAS EVENTUALLY TAKEN IN FOR THIS PROBLEM AND OTHERS ON MARCH 17, 2001. BY APRIL 24, 2001 CHEVROLET STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS DETERMINED TO BE RELATED TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO BE USED SINCE MARCH 7, 2000 DUE TO THE ACRID SMELL OF BURNT OIL INSIDE THE CAR. THE SMELL CAUSED ME TO BE UNABLE TO OPERATE THE CAR DO TO IRRIATION TO MY SINUS AND EYES. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS PROBLEM COULD CAUSE SOMEONE TO BE SERIOSLY ILL AND POSSIBLY LEAD TO A COLLISION AS A RESULT OF IMPAIRMENT TO THE DRIVER. *AK
