WHEN WE WOULD JUST START THE CAR IT WOULD REV UP TO BETWEEN 3000 TO 4000 RPM AND IT WOULD STAY THAT WAY. THIS WAS ONLY ONE WAY THAT IT WOULD ACT UP. THE OTHER WAYS WERE WHEN YOU WERE JUST DRIVING ALONG AND THE CAR WOULD START TO ACCELERATE ON IT'S OWN. BOTH WAYS YOU HAD TO RIDE THE BRAKE AND RIDE IT HARD IN ORDER NOT TO HIT THE PERSON IN FRONT OF US. WE HAD IT IN TO ONE DEALER TWICE WITH NOTHING GETTING FIXED. WE TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALER THREE TIMES, THEY RANDOMLY REPLACED DIFFERENT THINGS (GUESSING) AT OUR COST, BUT PROBLEM STILL PERSISTED. WE EVEN TOOK IT IN WHEN IT WAS REVVING UP TO 3000 RPM, WHILE THEY WERE UNDER THE HOOD IT EVEN WENT HIGHER! WE WERE TOLD TO TURN IT OFF BECAUSE THEY WERE AFRAID IT WOULD BLOW, BUT WHEN WE CAME BACK TO PICK IT UP THEY SAID THAT IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN AND THEY COULDN'T FIX IT IF IT DIDN'T DO IT FOR THEM AGAIN. THEY TOLD US THAT THE BEST THING FOR US TO DO WAS TO TRADE THE CAR IN ON A DIFFERENT VEHICLE, WE TOLD HIM THAT THIS THING IS A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF AND NOT JUST TRADED IN. WE CONTACTED GM AND TOLD THEM THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS HARM NOT ONLY TO MY WIFE AND MYSELF BUT TO OTHERS. GM DID NOTHING TO ASSIST WITH THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THAT IF THE DEALER COULDN'T FIX IT THAT THEY COULDN'T HELP US. THEY WOULDN'T EVEN CONTACT THE DEALERS TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEMS WERE. WE HAVE APPROX. 116,000 MILES AND IT NOW HAS ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS WITH THE ACCELERATION. WE STILL HAVE THE CAR BECAUSE WE CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER AT THIS TIME, BUT I FEEL LIKE I'M DRIVING A TIME BOMB. *TR
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT BRAKES ON HIS 2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU (50000 FAILURE MILEAGE) HAD TO BE REPLACED EVERY SIX MONTHS FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT ANTIFREEZE LEAKS INTO THE OIL. THIS WILL BE THE THIRD TIME THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET HAS HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO A MECHANIC SIX TIMES CONCERNING THESE ISSUES. THE BRAKE AND MANIFOLD PROBLEMS STILL EXISTS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
POWER STEERING PUMP REPLACED. HIGH RESISTANCE TO TURNING LEFT. OFTEN UNABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL AS MUCH AS INTENDED WITH THE MAXIMUM PINION SHAFT MOVEMENT. WHEN TURNING LEFT POWER STEERING IS NON EXISTING WITH EXTREME POWER TO MANEUVER STEERING TO COMPLETE THE LEFT TURN. THE RIGHT TURNING STEERING IS EXTREMELY LOOSE. THE FAILURE IS DUPLICATIVE OF THE RECALL OF THE 1997 AND 1998 MALIBU. *NM
WE WERE TOLD THIS IS BECOMING A COMMON PROBLEM THAT WE LOSE THE COOLANT INTAKE ON THE ENGINE OF OUR 01 MALIBU RESULTING IN A $1000 REPAIR - THIS DEALER HAS EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE FAILURES ON THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE. *NM
HAZARD FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS DOESN'T WORK AND MY TURN SIGNALS ARE SOMETIMES INOPERATIVE. GM SAID MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THEY RECALL NO.03043 ALTHOUGH I HAVING SAME KIND OF PROBLEM STATED IN THAT RECALL(NHTSA CAMPAIGN NO.03V327000).*JB
CAN'T KEEP CAR ALIGNED. TECHNICIANS SAID THAT THEY HAVE ENCOUNTERED THIS WITH OTHER MALIBU'S. THEY CAN'T DO ANY MORE TO KEEP ALIGNMENT IN PLACE. WE DID A TEST BY ALIGNING CAR AND GOING BACK IN 2 WEEKS AND ALIGNMENT HAS ALREADY DEVIATED FROM SET POINTS.*JB
YES I HAVE A CHEVORLET MALIBU 2001 .I TOOK IT BOB RICHARD CHERVOLET BECAUSE SOMETHING WAS ALWAYS WRONG WITH THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM AND EVERY TIME THEY FIX IT THEY SAID IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN . IT HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS IS THE FIFTH TIME IT HAPPEN . HOW I KNOW IT IS THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM. BECAUSE THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPEN FOUR TIME ALREADY. FIRST OF ALL I'M PAYING CLOSE TO 23,000 FOR THIS CAR THE CAR WAS 14,700 BUT WITH THE FINANCE CHARGES IT COSTING ME 23,000 I AM READY TO GIVE THIS CAR UP BECAUSE OF THE SAME PROBLEM . I TOOK MY 2001 CHEVY MALIBU LS IN TO GET THE OIL CHANGED. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE GM ENGINES OF MY YEAR AND OTHERS WAS THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET LEAKING COOLANT, AND THAT IF LEFT UN-FIXED, THE ENGINE WOULD EVENTUALLY SEIZE UP. I WAS TOLD THAT THE MATERIAL THAT THE GASKETS WERE MADE OUT OF HAS SINCE BEEN CHANGED, WHICH WOULD IMPLY THAT THEY KNOW IT TO BE FAULTY. I CONTACTED GM AND TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER WHERE THEY CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS ISSUE MAKES THE CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE, BUT I HAD HEARD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL IN PLACE FOR FAULTY ALTERNATORS AND FIGURED THIS PROBLEM WAS ABOUT EQUAL TO THAT IN POTENTIAL DANGER. OUT OF CURIOSITY, I LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE PLENTY OF WEBSITES WITH PEOPLE THAT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. *JB
I UNLOCK MY CAR, GET IN, PUT MY KEY IN THE IGNITION AND GO TO START THE CAR, WHICH IT DOESN'T BECAUSE THE THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT STARTS FLASHING. I THEN HAVE TO WAIT 10 MINUTES WITH THE KEY IN THE "ON" POSITION, WAIT FOR THE THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT TO GO OUT, TURN THE KEY OFF, THEN START THE CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 20 TIMES. NO PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. *JB
CAR WOULD TURN OVER ONCE AND IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN. ANT-THEFT LIGHT WOULD BE ON. HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED TO GARAGE. THEY COULD FIND NOTHING TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED AND RESET ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM AND RELEASED THE CAR. ALL AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $200. THIS IS 2ND TIME IT HAS HAPPENED. FIRST INCIDENT COST $100. IT IS FRUSTRATING BECAUSE YOU CAN NEVER PREDICT WHEN/WHERE IT WILL HAPPEN. FROM RESEARCH I HAVE DONE IT SEEMS THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEM AND REPLACING IGNITION SWITCH/ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM DOES NOT HELP EITHER. HAVE LOST ALL CONFIDENCE IN MY CAR!
I HAVE A 2001 MALIBU. THE THEFT SYSTEM KEEPS KICKING ON, AND WON'T LET IT START. I HAVE TO WAIT 10 MINUTES BEFORE IT WILL ALLOW ITSELF TO START.
TURN SIGNALS ON MY 2001 CHEVY MALIBU STOPPED WORKING. THE BULBS AREN'T BURNED OUT SO MUST BE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM (I'M GUESSING) AT FIRST THE SIGNALS WOULD WORK FOR A FEW DAYS THEN STOP FOR A DAY BUT NOW ITS BEEN 4 DAYS AND THE SIGNALS DON'T WORK AT ALL. ALSO THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM DOESN'T "BLOW" ON LEVELS 1-4 ONLY ON LEVEL 5.

I FOUND THAT MOST ALL CHEVY'S FROM THE YEAR 1998 TO 2005 ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. ONE PERSON SAID THAT IS ALARM SET ITSELF WHILE ON THE FREEWAY DOING 60 MPH SHUT ITSELF OFF. IF THAT'S NOT A SAFETY HAZARD I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS. I WOULD NOT WANT THAT TO HAPPEN TO ME. CAN SOME ONE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS THEFT ALARM SYSTEM CHEVY IS PUTTING IN THEIR CARS? DT WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE IN THE MORNING ONE COULD HEAR A METAL PINGING SOUND COMING FROM THE MOTOR. IT WILL RATTLE FOR A MILE OR TWO AND THE NOISE WILL QUIETLY LOWER ITSELF. NOTICED THIS ON JULY 1, 2005. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAD 40,000 MILES ON IT. HAD IT DIAGNOSED AT THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT IT HAD A PISTON SLAP IN THE MOTOR. *AK
DT: CONTACT STATES WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED, CAUSING IT TO STALL. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WENT UP VERY LITTLE BEFORE THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE READ COMPLETELY HOT. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SERVICE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE HEAD GASKET TO FAIL, LEADING TO THE WARPING OF THE CYLINDER WALL AND HEAD. THE ENTIRE MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS LOOKING INTO THIS MATTER. *AK
THE AC CONTROL PANEL ON MY 2000 CHEVY MALIBU IS FAILING. IT IS CAUSING THE AC LIGHT AND COMPRESSOR TO TURN OFF. A INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THIS TO BE A COMMONLY REPORTED PROBLEM AMONGST MALIBU OWNERS. THE PANEL REQUIRES REPLACEMENT AND WILL COST $200 FOR THE PART PLUS LABOR. *NM
ABS SYSTEM FAILURE ABS ACTIVATES WITH OUT WARNING EVEN IF THE BRAKES ARE NOT APPLIED
DT: WHEN GOING OVER A RAILROAD TRACK OR A MAN HOLE, CONSUMER'S CAR SHUT DOWN. THE VEHICLE STEERING AND BRAKES LOCKED UP AND THE CONSUMER HAD TO MANUALLY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE AND PUT IT IN PARK.*AK *SB *NM
WENT TO CRANK CAR AND IT WOULD NOT CRANK ANTI THEFT LIGHT WAS ON. THIS IS THE 4TH TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED AND EACH TIME I HAVE TO SPEND 300.00 PLUS DOLLARS TO GET IT FIXED. CHEVY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS. LAST YEAR I HAD THE SAME THING REPLACED 3 TIMES AND NOW HERE IT IS AGIAN.
I HAD TO HAVE THE FUEL INJECTOR CLEANED ABOUT AYR AFTER I GOT THE CAR? NOW I AM TOLD I HAVE TO HAVE IT DONE AGAIN! ALSO THE ENGINE IS LEAKING ANDTHE COOLANT SYSTEM. I HEAR IT MIGHT NOT HAPPEN AGAIN AS GM MADE NEW PARTS FOR THE ENGINE SO IT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. MY MECHANIC FEELS THE ENGINE SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO HIM WHEN THEY DIAGNOSED THE CAR AS NEEDING THE FUEL INJECTOR CLEANED THE FIRST TIME---IT SHOULDN'T HAVE NEEDED IT AND PROBABLY DIDN'T. I FEEL I MAY BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF AGAIN BY THIS DEALERSHIP. I HOPE THIS CAR IS RECALLED FOR THE WRONG OR BAD ENGINE ITTING PARTS. I WAS ONE WHO REPLACED THE HAZARDS BEFORE IT WAS EVER RECALLED-I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED THE WAY THEY WERE ACTING HALF HAZARDLY! I DID AND THEN THIS SAME DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT I HADN'T THAT THE WRONG PART-THE OLD PART WAS PUT IN THE CAR AND REPLACED IT. THIS IS DELAND CHEVROLT/CADILLAC IN DELAND FL. THEY SAID THEY REPLACED IT WITH THE RIGHT PART BUT I DOUBT THEY DID.
OUR 2001 MALIBU DEVELOPED A COOLANT LEAK AND IN MAY OF 05. THE DEALER REPLACED THE UPPER INTAKE GASKET AND SAID IT WAS FIXED. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT MAINTAIN COMPRESSION AND KEPT STALLING. I AM DISABLED AND I FELT THERE WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. AFTER 3 OR 4 TRIPS TO THE DEALER WITHOUT RESULTS I TOOK THE CAR TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO POINTED OUT THAT IT WAS THE HEAD GASKET THAT WAS LEAKING. I AM OUT A LOT OF MONEY FOR A CAR THAT'S NOT VERY OLD. AFTER READING THE OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER MALIBU OWNERS I AM CONVINCED THERE MUST BE A DEFECT WITH THESE GASKETS. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPLETELY REPLACED AS WELL. I DON'T KNOW IF ONE HAS ANY THING TO DO WITH THE OTHER BUT IT WAS AT THE SAME TIME. NOW MY HEATER WON'T TURN OFF SO IT'S OVER RIDING THE AIR CONDITIONER. BECAUSE OF ALL OF THESE REPAIRS I HAVE OVER $1000 IN RENTAL CAR EXPENSES. THIS IS A MATTER OF SAFETY AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED. *NM

MY POINT IS THAT I KNOW IF YOU TAKE CARE OF A CAR IT WILL LAST LONGER. I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF THIS CAR AND I KNOW GASKETS SHOULD NOT DETERIORATE THE WAY THESE DID. LOOKING AT THE REPORTS ON MYCARSTATS.COM IT APPEARS TO ME THAT WHAT EVER MATERIAL WAS USED FOR THE GASKETS IN THIS CAR MUST BE DEFECTIVE. THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY COMPLAINTS FOR THIS TO BE ANY THING ELSE. MAINTAINING MY CAR IS A PRIORITY FOR ME AS I AM DISABLED. TO HAVE A MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN IS A MAJOR ISSUE. THIS CARS ENGINE WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN COMPRESSION BECAUSE OF THE LEAKY GASKETS. IT KEPT STALLING REPEATEDLY, I FEEL PUTTING MY SAFETY AT RISK. I HAVE TRIED TO WORK THIS OUT WITH THE DEALERSHIP BUT IT'S CLEAR TO ME WHAT THEIR PRIORITY IS AND IT'S NOT ME OR MY CAR. I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS MATTER. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE GASKET MATERIAL THEY USED IN THIS MODEL WAS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER YEARS. I BELIEVE THIS IS A BIGGER PROBLEM THAN GM IS READY TO ADMIT. *JB
MYSELF AND MANY OTHER 2001 CHEVY MALIBU OWNERS HAVE HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE MAJOR ENGINE GASKETS IN THEIR CARS. I AM DISABLED AN THE CAR WOULD STALL EVERYWHERE PUTTING MY SAFETY IN JEPORDY. I HAD TO REPAIR A MANIFOLD INTAKE GASKET, LEAKING WATER. . I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL AUTO REPAIR SHOPS AND THEY SAID THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE CHEVY MALIBUS. THE CHEVY CO. SHOULD HAVE TO DO A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. UNFAIR THAT THE CONSUMER HAS TO PAY THE BILL TO HAVE THIS FIXED. PLEASE CHECK INTO FORCING A RECALL ON THIS PLEASE. *NM
TYPE OF VEHICLE- 2001 CHEVY MALIBU ON AT LEAST 5 OCCSASIONS, THE VEHICLE HAS FAILED TO START. THE BATTERY IS OK, AS ALL ACCESORIES ORK PERFECT. THE CAR HAS HAD FUEL, AND WE ACTUALLY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, JUST TO SEE IF THIS WAS THE PROBLEM. IT WILL ACT AS THOUGH IT WANTS TO START. I HAVE HAD AN AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN TRY TO SEE WHAT IT IS BY HOOKING UP TO A DIAGNOSTICS MACHINE, ALTHOUGH AS QUICK AS IT IS RELEASED FROM THE WHEEL DOLLY, IT STARTS, AS IF JARRING THE CAR MAKES A DIFFERENCE. IN LIGHT OF THIS WE ARE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM, ALTHOUGH WE KNOW IT IS LIKELY RELATED TO A MISFIRING OF A WIRE TO THE COMPUTER. AFTER HOOKING UP TO MACHINE WHEN IT STARTS, NO FAULT CODES ARE SHOWN. IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING. THE ENGINE WILL CRANK, FUEL PRESSURE OK. IGNITION SYSTEM PLUGS AHVE FIRE. ALL NORMAL SYSTEMS ARE GOOD, HOWEVER ENGINE WILL NOT FIRE.
DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW SWITCH STALLS BEFORE ROLLING UP. TURN SIGNALS DO NOT WORK ALL THE TIME. INTERNAL FAN SWITCH ONLY WORKS ON 5. IF I TURN THE FAN SWITCH ON OR OFF, TURN SIGNALS WILL START WORKING INSTANTLY. TURN SIGNAL PROBLEM STARTED RIGHT AFTER THE BLOWER WENT OUT. I CANNOT LISTEN TO THE RADIO AND RUN THE REAR DEFROSTER AT THE SAME TIME. THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT WILL NOT RELEASE ALL THE TIME WHEN I TRY TO PUT IT ON. THE CAR HAS DIED AS I TRIED TO TURN LEFT AT A STOP LIGHT. THIS WAS A USED CAR WITH LESS THAN 30K MILES WHEN I BOUGHT IT IN MARCH 2005, NO PROBLEMS UNTIL ABOUT MAY. NOW A PROBLEM A DAY SEEMS TO APPEAR. THE CAR NOW HAS 39K MILES ON IT AND MY HUSBAND WANTS ME TO TRADE IT IN ALREADY BECAUSE HE SAYS IT IS GOING TO "NICKEL AND DIME US TO DEATH". I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL OF THESE PROBLEMS ON RECALL SITES, BUT THE DEALER SAID THAT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *JB
MY 2001 CHVROLET MALIBU LS HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP IN ORDER FOR THE ANTI-THEFT/PASSLOCK TO BE REPLACED WHICH WAS AROUND $300.00. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME MY CAR HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED THE FIRST TIME AND THEY HAD TO RESET IT. I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS TO WAIT 10 MINUTES AND THEN UNLOCK YOUR CAR AND TRY AND START IT. NOTHING WORKED. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING AND EXPENSIVE TO DEAL WITH. *AK

REOCCURING ABS WARNING LIGHT ON DASHBOARD. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME WITH THE ABS LIGHT DISPLAYING. WE HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKES AND PADS, ROTOR AND HUB KIT TWICE FOR THIS ISSUE. THIS WILL BE THE THIRD TIME WE WILL HAVE TO REPLACE AND ALSO REPLACE THE WIRING HARNESS. DEALER UNABLE TO DEFINE IF THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE OR TARGET THE SPECIFIC PROBLEM OR WHAT THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM COULD BE. GENERAL MOTORS WILL NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE EVEN TO INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE FOR POSSIBLE RECALL. THEY HAVE PLACED THE BURDEN OF RESPONSIBILITY ON THE OWNER.
CAR IGNITION. WOULD NOT START. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT APPEARED THAT IT WAS THE ANTI THEFT DEVICE. UPON PUTTING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION IT WAS BEING SEEN AS AN INTRUSION AND WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO START. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY BOTH THE DEALER AND SECONDARY REPAIR SHOP THAT THE CAUSE APPEARED TO BE A LOSS OF MEMORY IN THE CHIP. THE PROCEDURE, WHICH WAS QUITE UNACCEPTABLE, WAS TO WIPE THE KEY WITH ALCOHOL AND PROCEED TO TURN THE IGNITION ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES. MY WIFE ,WHO IS THE PRIMARY DRIVER, HAS BEEN STUCK ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. CAR HAS BECAME COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE! DEALER, WITHOUT KNOWING THE PROBLEM, INSISTED THAT WARRANTY EXPIRED, AND TO REPLACE THE IGNITION CYLINDER WAS AROUND $300, 00 SOMETHING THAT DRASTIC SHOULD BE COVERED BY GM. *AK
I HAVE RECENTLY HAD TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE MECHANIC TO GET FIXED. IT WAS LEAKING THE ENGINE COOLANT AND THE MANIFOLD GASKET HAD TO BE REPLACED WHICH COST OVER $800 TO FIX. NOW , THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND THAT WILL BE ANOTHER EXPENSE THAT I WILL HAVE TO MAKE ON A 4 YEAR OLD 26,000 MILE CAR.
HAD A LEAKING INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET. WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST ABOUT $1000 TO FIX. I CALLED THE PHONE # FOR CHEVY IN MY OWNERS BOOK. FILED A COMPLAINT, AND WENT TO THE DEALER, GAVE THEM MY CASE # CHEVY GAVE ME. THEY CALLED CHEVY, CAME BACK AND TOLD ME IT WOULD COST ME $350. THEY CHANGED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET, FLUSHED THE RADIATOR, AND CHANGED MY OIL. CHEVY HAS A REIMBURSMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR PROBLEMS THAT AREN'T BAD ENOUGH FOR RECALLS. THEY ALSO REIMBURSED ME $862.00 FOR MY PROBLEM WITH THE ANTI-THEFT , FULLY REIMBURSED. IF YOU LIVE IN ILLINOIS, THE BEST PLACE TO HAVE YOUR CAR SERVICED IS GEORGE WEBER CHEVROLET IN COLUMBIA, ILLINOIS. THE PEOPLE ARE GREAT , THE SERVICE IS GREAT. I LIVE 50 MILES AWAY BUT AFTER DEALING WITH OTHER CHEVY DEALERS IN MISSOURI GIVING CRAPPY SERVICE, ITS WORTH THE TRIP!
THE DRIVER PLACED THE KEY INSIDE OF THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT TURN ON. THE DRIVER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT IGNITION CYLINDER SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK THE PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR WITH NO WARNING. THE THEFT LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED DUE TO THE IGNITION SENSOR AND HAD TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE THEFT LIGHT WOULD ALSO FLASH AND THE VEHICLE WOULD BECOME HARD TO START AT TIMES. THIS PROBLEM ALSO MAY HAVE OCCURRED DUE TO AN INTERNAL FAILURE OF THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER. *SC *JB
THE TURN SIGNALS WORK OFF AND ON ,I NEVER KNOW IF THEY WILL WORK OR NOT .IF THEY DON'T WORK I FOUND IF YOU PUSH ON THE EMERGENCY FLASHER SWITH THEY MIGHT COME ON. THIS CAR WAS RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT THE DEALER SAYS IT DOESN'T INCLUDE MY CARS VIN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER IS 03V327000
A SLOW RADIATOR LEAK WAS OBSERVED OVER A PERIOD OF 2 MONTHS. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED A FAULTY INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET. HE HAD MENTIONED THAT IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN THE MALIBU, EVEN THOUGH GM TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NOT. THE MANIFOLD GASKET WAS REPLACED BEFORE ANY ANTI-FREEZE LEAKED INTO THE ENGINE.*JB
AT 36,370 MILES HAD TO REPLACE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND GASKET ON 2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU. *BF THE FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED AT 28,000 AND THE BLOWER ONLY WORKED ON HIGH SPEED. *JB
MY 2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU DRIVER SIDE WINDOW SWITCH IS BAD. I WENT TO THE CHEVY PLACE IN MY AREA TO PRICE THE PART FOR IT AND THE GUY INDICATED TO ME THAT HE HAD MANY CHEVROLET MALIBU WINDOW SWITCHES THAT DID NOT WORK. *AK

THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2001 CHEVY MALIBU FOR TURN SIGNAL/HAZARD LIGHT DEFECT. I HAVE A 2001 CHEVY MALIBU AND I HAD EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS. DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AFTER RELEASING THE GAS PEDAL. THE FIRST TIME WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED THE VEHICLE WORKED PROPERLY AFTER TAPPING THE GAS PEDAL. AFTER THE THIRD TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP, WHO DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE THROTTLE STICKING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. *AK
I PUT KEY IN IGNITION SWITCH AND IT WOULD NOT TURN TO ANY POSITION , BUY IT DOES STILL LOCK ALL DOORS. DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT REPLACE THE SWITCH ,FREE OF CHARGE.VEH. ONLY HAS 62000 MILES ON IT.I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS DEFECT.*AK
I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY ENGINE COOLANT HAVING TO BE REPLACED CONSTANTLY. I TOOK IT TO CREST CHEVROLET (SAN BERNARDINO), THEY CHARGED US TO CHECK THE COOLANT PROBLEM, BUT DID NOT FIND ANY. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. ON JAN 2, 2005 WHILE TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY, THE ENGINE OVERHEATED AND CAUSED A PISTON TO MISFIRE. I NOW AM STUCK HAVING TO REPLACE AN ENGINE ON A 4 YEAR OLD CAR WITH LESS THAN 85,000 MILES ON IT. ACCORDING TO MCO TIRES, A HEAD GASKET WAS LEAKING COOLANT AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT. THE ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIR IS $2300. *NM

SOME INDIVIDUALS NOTED THAT THEY CONTACTED THEIR CAR DEALER AND THE GASKET WAS CHANGED TO A NEWER ONE THAT THEY ARE USING IN THE NEWER CARS. HOWEVER, I CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO, AS THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. I NEED SOMEONE TO CONTACT ME ASAP REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. TO ME, IT APPEARS THAT MOST OF THE CARS (2 YEARS OR OLDER) HAVE THE PROBLEM. THE PART SHOULD LAST MUCH LONGER. *AK

I TOOK IT TO DON DARR CHEVY WHICH FIXED A FAULTY SWITCH OPERATING THE AIR CONDITIONER/SWITCHING TO OUTSIDE AIR. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO DOBBS WHEN IT WOULD NOT START, THEY SAID IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP AND ASSEMBLY MODULE. TODAY,JIM BUTLER CHEVROLET REPLACED THE LOCK CYLINDER AND IGNITION SWITCH BECAUSE OF THE THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT AND THE CAR NOT STARTING.BUT WAS UNABLE TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS NOT WORKING. OH! BUT THEY NOTICED A RECALL ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND REPLACED IT. THEY WERE THE ONE WHO REPLACED IT THE FIRST TIME. I ALSO TOLD THEM OF THE OVER CRANK/GRINDING NOISE AFTER THE CAR IS STARTED, HAPPENS OCCASIONALLY. THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE, SO NO REPAIR. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THIS CAR OR CHEVY BECAUSE OF ALL THE PROBLEMS AND THE EXPENSE IT HAS CAUSED AND COST ME. I USED TO HOLD CHEVROLET IN HIGH REGARD, BUT CAN NO LONGER RECOMMEND ANYONE OWNING ONE.*AK
