WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, IT LOSES POWER STEERING AND IS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE WHEEL. IT OCCURS FREQUENTLY AND HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THEY SAY IT HAS A DEFECTIVE STEERING COLUMN. THE CONDITION AS EXISTS IS IDENTIFIED IN A GM SERVICE BULLETIN# 04-02-35-009A. I CONTACTED GM AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE AND WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. *TR
ON JANUARY 13, 2010, THE WARNING, WITH LITTLE WRENCH LIT, "POWER STEERING" CAME ON THE DASH OF MY 2004 CHEVY MALIBU MAXX. I AM CONCERNED THAT THERE MAY BE FURTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING BECAUSE JUST THE DAY BEFORE, MY SON-IN-LAW'S 2006 CHEVY MALIBU SEDAN'S STEERING QUIT WHILE HE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. ONLINE RESEARCH SHOWS ME THAT THIS IS A PROMINENT PROBLEM WITH THE CHEVY MALIBU VEHICLES FOR WHICH GM IS NOT ISSUING A RECALL OR FIX. ARE THEY WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR TO DIE BEFORE ACTING? *TR
THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS DIDN'T WORK AFTER ONLY 8,00 MILES AND THEN THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL DIDN'T WORK AFTER ONLY 15,000 MILES. THERE WAS A RELAY SWITCH THAT WAS REPLACED AT 8,000 MILES THAT COST $125.00 INCLUDING PARTS AND LABOR AND THEN AT 15,000 MILES THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL DIDN'T WORK AND AFTER TWO DAYS IN THE SHOP THEY "REPAIRED AND RECRIMPED TERMINAL AT BCM". NO PARTS, JUST LABOR $459.80. BOTH OF THESE JOBS WERE DONE AT CHEVY DEALERSHIPS. IT TURNS OUT THAT THESE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS ESPECIALLY THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON BUT IT TOOK THE DEALERSHIP TWO DAYS TO FIX IT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAX. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A CLICKING NOISE AND THEN THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED ON THREE OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK AND THE POTENTIAL THAT A CRASH COULD OCCUR THE CONTACT FEELS THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
1. A SUPPORT/ADJUSTMENT BAR FOR THE DRIVER'S SEAT BROKE CAUSING THE DRIVERS SEAT TO SUDDENLY DROP TO THE RIGHT. 2. SUPPORT/ADJUSTING BAR IS BROKEN AND WILL REQUIRE REPAIR/REPLACEMENT. CAN NOT ADJUST THE SEAT CORRECTLY FOR COMFORTABLE AND PROPER DRIVING POSITION. ALMOST PUT THE CAR INTO A GUARD RAIL IN WHEN IT HAPPENED. GOOD THING MY 16 YEAR OLD WAS NOT DRIVING IT AT THE TIME. 3. DEALER WANTS $1000 FOR REPAIR, NO REPLACEMENT PART AVAILABLE, REQUIRES ENTIRE SEAT FRAME TO BE REPLACED AT $400+. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHENEVER THE CONTACT DRIVES THE VEHICLE AT ANY SPEED, IN ANY DRIVING CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY LOSE ALL POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALERSHIP. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 60000.
2004 CHEVY MALIBU. PROBLEM WITH STEERING. STEERING WHEEL WANTS TO TUG REPEATEDLY TO THE LEFT. IF I BARELY TOUCH THE STEERING WHEEL AND PUT A LITTLE PRESSURE EITHER TO RIGHT OR LEFT, THE STEERING WHEEL BY ITSELF TUGS UP AND DOWN. AT HIGHER SPEEDS I CAN FEEL IN HANDS OCCASIONALLY TUGGING. HOPE IT DON'T DECIDE ONE DAY TO JUST DO A HARD TURN INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. WAS TOLD THAT IT MOST LIKELY IS THE STEERING ASSIST ON THE COLUMN. WHY CAN'T GM JUST HAVE PUT A REGULAR STEERING PUMP LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILURE WITH CAR. STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT MOVE. ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. *TR
INTERMITTENT TURN SIGNALS AND HORN CONTINUALLY GOES OFF HAVING TO REMOVE FUSE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY FAILED; THE CONTACT HAD TO USE EXTRA FORCE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL. THE CONTACT TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED WHICH RESET THE POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,957.
MY MOTHER OWNS A 2004 CHEVY MALIBU. THE PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN SHE DRIVING AND ABOUT TO MAKE A TURN THE STEERING WHEEL LOOSES POWER AND IS HARD TO TURN. THIS COULD BECOME A PROBLEM IF SNOW OR ICE ON THE GROUND OR SHE TRYING TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. I HAD IT OVER FOR SERVICE AT A LOCAL CHEVY DEALER. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS AN OCCURRING PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. BUT THAT DOESN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. MY MOTHER IS 72 YEARS OLD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU . WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH HE NOTICED THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL,AND THEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED. HE THEN PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED THE DEALER TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR INSPECTION. ANY REPAIRS WILL MADE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 147000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THE TURN SIGNAL BULBS CONTINUOUSLY FAILED. IN ADDITION, THE AMBER LENS OF THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY WAS MELTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 48,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 58,000.
LOST POWER STEERING. PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED BY TURNING CAR OFF WAITING A MINUTE AND RESTARTING. POWER STEERING THEN RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED ON TWO OCCASION. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE TO THIS POINT. I HAVE REVIEWED CAR FORUMS AND NOTED THIS APPEARS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS MODEL. IT APPEARS THE STEERING COLUMN MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. ADDITIONALLY WHEN COLD, THE POWER STEERING NOW FEELS SLUGGISH. *TR
2004 CHEVY MALIBU MAXX FAILURE OF ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. WHEN THE CAR IS SHUT OFF IT RESETS ITSELF BUT EVENTUALLY COMES BACK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD BEGIN PULLING TO THE LEFT, CAUSING INCREASED DIFFICULTY IN STEERING. THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY A FEW MOMENTS BEFORE THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR. HE ALSO STATED THAT ON OCCASION, THE POWER STEERING WOULD BE INOPERABLE UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT IN ORDER TO RESET THE POWER STEERING, HE WOULD SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART IT TO RESET THE SYSTEM. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND DID NOT MAKE ANY REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT YET BEEN CONTACTED TO REPORT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,270 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY MALIBU WITH 80,000 PLUS MILES. MY POWER STEERING COLUMN MOTOR SHORTED OUT AND THEREFORE MY POWER STEERING HAS ENABLED MY CAR TO BE DRIVEN; AND THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWS EMPTY WHEN I JUST FILLED IT WITH GAS. I DID AN ON-LINE RESEARCH AND SAW THERE WERE SO MANY OTHER CONSUMERS THAT HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS I HAVE AND I CONTACTED GM AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. IT IS SAD WHEN WE PURCHASE 'MADE IN AMERICA' PRODUCTS THAT THE COMPANIES DO NOT STAND BY THEIR PRODUCTS. I FEEL THERE SHOULD BE A TOTAL RECALL ON ALL THESE CARS BEFORE WE END UP WITH MAJOR ACCIDENTS. SHAME ON GM TO GET THE POWER STEERING FIX IS NOT CHEAP. GM KNOWS OF THESE PROBLEMS AND IS EXTREMELY NONCHALANT ABOUT RECTIFYING THE SITUATION. TOYOTA STEPPED UP AND RECALLED THEIR CARS TO CLEAR UP THE PROBLEMS , WHOSE GOING TO MAKE GM DO THE SAME? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MALIBU MAX. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH WHEN THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MALFUNCTIONED AS THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME TIGHTENED. THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED JUST BEFORE THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED A MINIMUM OF THREE TIMES AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE POWER STEERING SENSOR FAILED AND WOULD NEED REPAIRING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF AND SHE WAS UNABLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THERE WAS ALSO AN ALERT THAT INDICATED A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR A MECHANIC TO BE REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. THE AIRBAG MODULE LIGHT FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, AND SHE WAS ADVISED SINCE THAT THE MODULE HAS FAILED. ANY REPAIRS MADE, WOULD BE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36000.
AS MY GIRLFRIEND PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT WITH MY 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU AND JUST WHEN I PREPARED TO LEAVE, THE STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ALARM SOUNDED. THE POWER ASSIST ON THE STEERING WAS NOT FUNCTIONING. TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. APROX 2 WEEKS LATER, SHE WENT TO TURN INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND THE STEERING FAILED AGAIN. WHILE THESE OCCURRED AT LOW SPEED,I DO WORRY THAT IT MAY OCCUR WHILE IN TRAFFIC OR IN TOWN, WHICH MAY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. I CAN SEE FROM THE REPORTS AT MYCARSTATS.COM THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. *TR
I'VE BEEN DRIVEN MY 04 CHEVY MALIBU MAX WITH OUT POWER STEERING FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS NOW. EVERY TIME I CONTACT A CHEVY DEALER THEY SAY OH THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I HAD DIAGNOSTICS DONE AND THEY SAID THERE NOTHING THEY CAN DO ITS NOT TO BIG.. THEY ALSO SAID ITS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE.. I JUST SAW ON THE NEWS THAT THEY ARE RECALLING THE COBALTS FOR POWER STEERING, WHY ARE THEY NOT FIXING THEM AND THEY KNOW THE MAXXS ARE HAVING PROBLEMS NOTHING HAS HAPPENED YET.. *TR

THE CONTACT HAD THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED PREVIOUSLY BUT THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT DID NOT CALL THE MANUFACTURER OR THE DEALER. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD RESULT IN A CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
THE WELD ON THE DRIVERS SEAT BROKE.
I WAS DRIVING MYSELF AND MY 2 YEAR OLD SON HOME WHEN I LOST MY POWER STEERING AND HAD TO STOP, I SHUT OFF THE CAR AND WAITED TEN MINUTES TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC AND HAD TO HAVE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN AND EVERYTHING REPLACED. THE DAY AFTER I PICKED UP MY CAR IT WAS MAKING AN AWFUL NOISE SO I HAD TO BRING IT BACK AND AM HAVING ANOTHER PART OF THE STEERING REPLACED. *TR
GETTING "POWER STEERING ERROR" INTERMITTENTLY SINCE LAST ONE YEAR. THE ERROR MESSAGE GOES AWAY AT RESTART, BUT COMES BACK AGAIN LATER. THIS IS SERIOUS MATTER AS IT COULD MEAN LOSS OF POWER TO THE STEERING AND MAY RESULT IN A CRASH. PLEASE INVESTIGATE IT AND HAVE IT RECALLED BEFORE SOME ONE GETS KILLED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 MALIBU MAXX TO WORK YESTERDAY AND MY STEERING LOCKED UP ON ME WHILE DRIVING DOWN A BUSY ROAD DURING RUSH HOUR. THE STEERING WHEEL PULLED TO LEFT BEFORE LOCKING UP. I HOPE SOMEONE WILL FORCE GM TO RECALL THIS AND FIX THIS PROBLEM. THERE MAY HAVE NOT YET BEEN A DEATH, BUT THERE WILL BE IN TIME. HOW MANY COMPLAINTS NEED TO BE REPORTED BEFORE THIS IS TAKEN SERIOUSLY. MY DEALER HAD TO COMPLETELY REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN AND POWER STEERING MOTOR. MY CAR ONLY HAS 55K MILES ON. 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU LT SEDAN FAILURE: WELD UNDER DRIVER SEAT BROKE IN TWO PLACES. CAUSES SEAT TO SET LOWER ON ONE SIDE PLACING DRIVER AT AWKWARD POSITION TO CONTROLS. IF A COLLISION OCCURRED, THE SEAT WOULD FAIL CAUSING THE DRIVER TO BE THROWN WHO KNOWS WHERE. CORRECTION: SEAT REMOVED FOR INSPECTION, MUST BE REPLACED AS UNABLE TO REPAIR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKED ON THE VEHICLE. SHE WAS ABLE TO SAFELY RESTART THE VEHICLE, AND AFTER 5 MINUTES THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE TECHNICIANS COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 117,000.
THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2004 MALIBU LS FAILED WHILE MAKING A TURN. I NEARLY HAD AN ACCIDENT. MY LOCAL GARAGE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A MODULE IN THE STEERINGCOLUMN AND SAID IT'S A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE CONSIDERED FOR A RECALL OR MANUFACTURES SERVICE BULLETIN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON 91S IN HARTFORD CT. I HAD JUST GOTTEN ON THE HIGHWAY AND MOVED INTO THE SECOND LANE. IT WAS RAINING AND I HYDROPLANED. I WENT INTO A 360 AND AT THE 180 POINT I HIT THE CEMENT DIVIDER HEAD ON. I CONTINUED IN THE 360 AND AS I CAME ABOUT AGAIN I HIT THE METAL GUARDRAIL, AGAIN, HEAD ON AND WENT INTO ANOTHER 360. THERE WAS NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AT ALL AND MY SEATBELT DIDN'T LOCK UP WHICH CAUSED MY FACE AND UPPER TORSO TO HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. I LOST TEETH AND WAS INJURED ON MY UPPER TORSO AND NECK. I CALLED CHEVY AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE PICS OF CAR AND SEND THEM . I DID SO AND STILL HAVE THE PICS AND THE CAR. CHEVY SENT A "TECH" OUT TO DO "TESTS". THE TECH SHOWED UP NOT ONLY AN HOUR AND A HALF LATE BUT WITHOUT THE PROPER EQUIPMENT TO DO THE TESTS AND WOUND UP BORROWING CERTAIN THINGS FROM MY NEIGHBOR. I WAITED 3+ MONTHS TO HEAR FROM CHEVY. I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT THEY TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY., AND THAT THE TESTS SAID IT WAS UNDER THE THRESHOLD IF WHEN AN AIRBAG SHOULD DEPLOY. INCLUDED WITH THE LETTER WAS A "COPY OF THE TEST" WHICH WAS/IS ABSOLUTELY INCOMPREHENSIBLE TO ME. THERE WAS NO EXPLANATION OF ANYTHING THIS "TEST" SAID. BUT CHEVY TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY AT ALL. IF NEEDED I WILL FORWARD ALL PICS AND THE LETTER FROM CHEVY AS WELL. *TR
MY CAR WAS IN A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT WHERE IT LEFT THE ROAD AND FLIPPED TWICE LANDING ON IT'S SIDE AGAINST SOME TREES AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. NOT THE ONES IN THE FRONT NOR THE SIDE AIR BAGS. THE INSURANCE CO. SAID THE CAR IS TOTALED. LUCKILY MY CHILDREN WEREN'T IN THE CAR AT THE TIME BUT IF THEY HAD BEEN WOULD THEY BE HERE TODAY WITHOUT THE SAFETY FEATURE OF AIRBAGS?*TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2004 MALIBU LS POWER STEERING WILL GO OUT IT IS ALL YOU CAN DO TO STEER CAR. I CAN NOT STEER CAR WHEN THIS HAPPENS. YOU HAVE TO STOP CAR TURN IGNITION OFF THEN START CAR AGAIN TO GET YOUR POWER STEERING BACK. YOU MAY HAVE TO DO THIS SEVERAL TIMES STEERING WILL QUIVER AS YOU TURN. POWER STEERING FAILURE. WHEN I START CAR AND MAKING SHARP TURNS, IN ADDITION TO JUST DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. HERE CLICKING IN THE FRONT RIGHT END WHEN GOING UP HILL. TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT IT IS A PROB WITH THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM AND RACK AND PINION. ODDLY ENOUGH THERE WAS AND 2006 MAILBU IN AT THE SAME TIME WITH THE SAME PROBLEM MECHANIC FELT IT SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE. ALSO HAVE ISSUE WITH THE TURN SIGNALS FAILING I HAVE REPLACED MANY TIMES. I ALSO HAVE A HOLE THAT MELTED ON THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE IN THE PLASTIC HOUSING. *TR
PROBLEM WITH OUR 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU: BOTH PARKING LIGHTS HAVE BURNED THROUGH/MELTED THE HEADLIGHT COVERS. POWER STEERING PULLS HARD ONE WAY SOFT ANOTHER AND CAN AT RANDOM QUIT FUNCTIONING AT ALL. THE PROBLEM I EXPERIENCE SOUNDS IDENTICAL TO THE RECENT GM RECALL AND IS A KNOWN ISSUE. I AM ADDING THIS BECAUSE THE NHTSA CLOSED THE INVESTIGATION FOR THIS CAR AND SHOULD REOPEN IT. *TR
POWER STEERING CONTROL I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY MALIBU MAXX V6, I BOUGHT NEW A FEW MONTHS LATER I HEARD A FAINT KNOCKING IN THE STEERING WHEEL EACH YEAR IT BECAME MORE NOTICEABLE. NOW THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WITH THE MESSAGE OF POWER STEERING. I HAVE COMPLAINED AND HAD A NUMBER OF DIAGNOSTIC CHECKS THAT ARE DIFFERENT RESULTS. CHEVY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS. MY POWER STEERING FAILED ON ME GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY BEHIND AN 18 WHEELER, I STRUGGLED JUST TO GET ACROSS 1 LANE AND ONTO THE SHOULDER. I WAS TOO SCARED TO TURN THE CAR OFF BECAUSE I WAS 10 MI. AWAY FROM HOME. SO I SLOWLY DROVE DOWN THE HIGHWAY ONCE I MADE IT HOME I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND LATER TURNED IT BACK ON WITH POWER BACK IN MY STEERING WHEEL. THIS IS JUST AS DANGEROUS AS TOYOTA CARS. THERE NEED TO BE A FULL INVESTIGATION THIS IS ONE OF MANY COMPLAINTS I HAVE POSTED WITH NO RESULTS!!!!!!!! *TR
WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE, IT BECAME HARD TO TURN. IT TOOK TWO OF US TO TURN INTO A PARKING LOT. I GOT TO A SAFE SPOT TO STOP, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, WAITED ABOUT 15 MINUTES AND RESTARTED, OPERATED FINE. I HAVE DEALT WITH THIS ISSUE AT VARIOUS TIMES SINCE BUT HAVE HAD TO DEAL WITH IT DAILY FOR THE PAST WEEK. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY DID DIAGNOSTIC AND SAW NO PROBLEMS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED AT 17,000 MILES FOR POWER STEERING FAILURE. TWO WEEKS AGO SHE PAID $1000.00 TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,000.
THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING MY 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. A "MECHANICAL PROBLEM INDICATOR APPEARED ON THE DASH BOARD WHEN DRIVING MY CAR AND THE WORDS "POWER STEERING" WERE DISPLAYED ON THE RADIO DISPLAY. A FEW MOMENTS LATER, MY POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE CAR BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. I TURNED AROUND AND WENT HOME. *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT THE GRINDING NOISE OCCURRED EACH TIME HE DROVE OVER A BUMP OR POT HOLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 78000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL WAS INOPERATIVE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, HE NOTICED THAT THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL AMBER COVER WAS BURNED WITH A HOLE IN IT. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED; HOWEVER, HE HAS NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41, 140 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,167.

I OWN A 2004; 4 CYL; CHEVY MALIBU WITH ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING. THE SYSTEM FAILED WHILE I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE. I NARROWLY ESCAPED CAUSING A COLLISION BECAUSE OF THIS FAILURE. WHEN TOWED TO CHEVY "... THEIR COMPUTER SHOWS NO PROBLEM...". BALONEY, I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT BY GOING ON-LINE THAT LOTS OF CHEVY MALIBUS HAVE THIS PROBLEM. STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHIMMY WHILE IN MOTION, OFTEN ACCOMPANIED BY KNOCKING THAT IS HEARD AND ALSO FELT THROUGH THE STEERINGWHEEL WHILE APPLYING BRAKES, AND WOULD STOP ONLY WHEN THE VEHICLE CAME TO AN NEAR OR COMPLETE STOP. OTHER NOTABLE EVENTS INCLUDE A ROUGH VIBRATION WITH AN AUDIBLE REPETITIVE THUMPING THAT WAS FELT FROM THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL THAT WOULD SLIP ON REGULAR INTERVALS WHILE APPLYING BRAKES. THE FAILURE HAPPENED SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING MY 2 SPECIAL NEEDS BOYS TO SCHOOL. THE FAILURE STARTED WITH LITTLE WARNING IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL WHICH IS LOCATED RIGHT OFF THE BOULEVARD. I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE CAR SAFELY TO A STOP DUE TO THE 25MPH SCHOOL ZONE RULE. THE MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT IS 35 DURING NON SCHOOL HOURS AND 40 MPH FURTHER DOWN THE BOULEVARD. THE POWER STEERING BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER WITH IN SECONDS BEFORE THE SERVICE (WRENCH) LIGHT CAME ON. I PARKED MY VEHICLE, AND CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO AN REPUTABLE CARE REPAIR SHOP BECAUSE THE CAR WASN'T SAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE. AFTER 50 MINUTES THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED AND WHEN THE DRIVER STARTED MY CAR, THE CAR WAS AGAIN STEER-ABLE AND THE MAINTENANCE LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ON. THE MECHANICS WERE UNSUCCESSFUL IN REPRODUCING THE STEERING MALFUNCTION. SEPTEMBER 9TH, 2009 , THE SAME FAILURE REPEATED ITSELF, SAME LOCATION SAME TIME AS BEFORE, THE MAINTENANCE LIGHT TURNED ON AND THEN UNLIKE THE FIRST EVENT ON SEPTEMBER 8TH, THE RADIO DISPLAYED AN POWERSTEERING FAILURE MESSAGE ON ITS' SCREEN. THE MECHANIC AT THE AUTO SHOP TOOK A LOOK AT MY CAR IMMEDIATELY AFTER HE SAW THE MAINTENANCE LIGHT, AND THE POWERSTEERING FAILURE MESSAGE. AFTER THE POWERSTEERING PART FROM BOB STALL CHEVROLET WAS DELIVERED, THE PART WAS THEN INSTALLED. I PAID OUT OF POCKET, AND DIDN'T FIND OUT UNTIL AFTER SERVICE WAS RENDERED, THAT A DISCOVERY WAS MADE BY THE SHOP WHILE SEARCHING FOR INFORMATION ABOUT MY CAR, THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL. I NEVER RECEIVED GM'S NOTICE. I HAVE THE OLD PART. PART INSTALLED IS NEW. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU IN JUNE 2009. SINCE I HAVE HAD THE CAR THE POWER STEERING LIGHT HAS COME ON AND I HAVE LOST ALL POWER STEERING IN THE VEHICLE TWICE. I TOOK THE CAR THE DEALERSHIPS SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE POWER STEERING. DRIVING TODAY I LOST ALL POWER STEERING AGAIN. I STOP THE VEHICLE AND TURN IT OFF AND IT RESETS ITSELF USUALLY, BUT TODAY IT KEPT GOING OUT. I SPOKE TO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM ALTHOUGH THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO SERIOUSLY. EXTERIOR LAMP SOCKET OVERHEATED, MELTED, RESULTING IN LOSS OF TURN SIGNAL INDICATORS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH THE "POWER STEERING" WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, THEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED. AS A CONSEQUENCE THE RISK FOR VEHICLE CRASH WAS INCREASED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY, AND A MECHANIC CONCLUDED THAT THE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED REPLACEMENT. AS OF CURRENT DATE THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 92,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
