I HAVE A 2005 MALIBU CLASSIC WHERE THE TURN SIGNALS WILL STOP WORKING THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN START WORKING AGAIN. THE FUSES ARE GOOD, NO LOOSE WIRES THAT I CAN SEE, BULBS ARE GOOD. I HAVE READ OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM 2000 WHEN A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THE HAZARD SWITCH. THIS IS A ISSUE AND CAN RESULT IN A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT ONE DAY IF THE DRIVER BEHIND OR AROUND YOU DOES NOT SEE WHICH DIRECTION YOU MAY BE TURNING. THE PROBLEM COMES AND GOES. ANY SUGGESTIONS, ADVICE, IDEAS? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TURN SIGNAL BULBS MELTED THE LENS COVER, CAUSING A HOLE. WITH THE HOLE IN THE COVER, WATER WAS ABLE TO ENTER CAUSING ELECTRICAL FAILURES WITH THE TURN SIGNALS. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE FRONT LAMPS HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 64,000.
STARTED HEARING CLUNKING IN THE FRONT END ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND POWER STEERING GOING OUT NOW AND AGAIN. CLUNKING PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE AND POWERS STEERING BEGAN TO GO OUT EVERYTIME I DROVE MY CAR, ESPECIALLY WHEN MAKING TURNS. TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL AUTOSHOP. I HAD THE RACK AND PINION REPLACED. COST ME OVER $500. CLUNKING IS GONE BUT POWER STEERING IS STILL GOING OUT ON ME WHILE I AM DRIVING. *TR
I PURCHASED THIS 2005 CHEVY MALIBU USED. SHORTLY AFTER HAD THE RIGHT TURN SIGNAL BULB BLOW, THEN LEFT TURN AND BOTH HEADLIGHTS AT THE SAME TIME. WHILE REPLACING THE BULBS, I NOTICED THAT THE PLASTIC SURROUNDING THE TURN SIGNAL BULB HAD A LARGE HOLE IN IT FROM MELTING. THE OTHER ASSEMBLY HAD THE SAME HOLE BURNT IN THE TURN SIGNAL LIGHT BULB COVER. I HAVE REPLACED THE BULBS AT LEAST 2 MORE TIMES THIS YEAR. THE PROBLEMS WITH BULBS FAILING SEEMS TO HAPPEN IN WET WEATHER MORE FREQUENTLY THAN DRY WEATHER. SO I BELIEVE WATER IS GETTING INTO THE HEADLAMPS THROUGH THESE HOLES. THE EXTREME HEAT IS CAUSING THE HEADLIGHT TO BECOME EXTREMELY CLOUDY. REPLACING THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE OTHERS HAVE SAID IT SOON STARTS TO MELT AGAIN. PLEASE NHTSA THESE LIGHTING SYSTEMS THAT ARE FAILING ARE VITAL FOR NIGHTTIME DRIVING, PLEASE GET CHEVY TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND FIX THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE. *TR
HEADLIGHTS ARE DULL. PASSENGER BLINKER DOES NOT WORK. CHANGED THE BULB A COUPLE TIMES. AMBER COVER INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT IS MELTED. HARDLY ANY LIGHT WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. WENT TO DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. TOLD ME TO GO SEE SOMEONE WHO KNOWS ABOUT HEAD LIGHTS! REALLY? *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR SEATBELT WOULD NOT RELEASE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY UNHARNESSED THE SEATBELT. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 31,500. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,470.
LIGHTS WILL START BLINKING AND DOOR LOCKS GO UP AND DOWN THEN ON THE RADIO IT WILL SAY POWER STEERING AND THE STEERING WILL GO OUT ITS REALLY HARD TO STEER. IT ALSO COMES UP ON THE RADIO ENGINE POWER DECREASED AND THE CAR WILL JUST DIE AND YOU HALF TO WAIT A COUPLE OF MINUTES BEFORE IT WILL START. IT HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 40 TIMES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME ABNORMALLY STIFF. HE WAS NO LONGER ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL IN ANY DIRECTION. DURING THE FAILURE, THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MOVE OFF THE ROADWAY USING EXTREME BODILY FORCE WHERE THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND THE STEERING WHEEL RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,300.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REMOVING SOMETHING FROM THE TRUNK, THE TRUCK DOOR FELL DOWN AND STRUCK HIM IN THE HEAD. THE CONTACT SUFFERED A CONCUSSION AS A RESULT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,366.

THE CONTACT STATED THE AMBER COVER ON THE DRIVER SIDE WAS MELTING AND LOOKED AS IF IT WAS STARTING TO MELT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AS WELL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 73,000. UPDATED 02/15/12*BF THE CONSUMER STATED INITIALLY, HE NOTICED THE FRONT SIGNAL LIGHTS WERE BURNING OUT AT AN ALARMING RATE. EVENTUALLY, SMOKE BEGAN EMITTING FROM THE PLASTIC COVER, FOLLOWED BY MELTING OF THE LIGHT AND COVER. A MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THAT THE BULBS OR SOCKETS WERE PERHAPS LOOSE. AFTER THE BULB HOUSING MELTED, BOTH HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES WERE REPLACED. TO DATE, THE BULBS CONTINUE TO FUNCTION, WITH NO BURN OUTS. HOWEVER, THE LIGHTS SEEMED TO BOUNCE WHILE DRIVING. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX LS (NA). WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 149,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 148,500.

SUBJECT: NHTSA ITEM NUMBER 10032206 BRAKE LIGHTS COMMENTS: MY 2005 MALIBU MAXX HAS INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH BRAKE LIGHTS. THEY GO ON WITHOUT PUTTING ON THE BRAKES AND GO OFF WHEN I PUT ON THE BRAKES. IN ADDITION, THE CRUISE CONTROL WORKS INTERMITTENTLY. I FOUND A TSB DATED 2009-06-01 THAT DESCRIBES IT PERFECTLY. CHEVY CAN'T FIND THE SAME TSB IN THEIR SYSTEM AND WON'T HELP ME. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE LAMP, BUT THAT IS CLEARLY NOT THE PROBLEM (BASED ON THE TSB). THE DEALER CAN'T SEE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT'S INTERMITTENT. I WANT THIS FIXED (THE CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE) BUT DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO PAY AGAIN, WHEN I FIRST PAID FOR SOMETHING THAT WAS CLEARLY THE WRONG SOLUTION, AND FOR WHICH THE DEALER COULD HAVE FOUND THE SAME TSB THAT I FOUND (EVEN IF IT'S NOT IN THE GM SYSTEM). THE SOLUTION APPEARS TO BE "HIGH RESISTANCE TO TERMINAL FRETTING CORROSION IN THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) C2 CONNECTOR (SPECIFICALLY PINS C2-18, C2-31, AND C2-59). THE CORRECTION IS TO UNLATCH THE C2 CONNECTOR AND DISCONNECT FROM THE BCM. THEN REPEAT THIS AND THEN APPLY DIELECTRIC LUBRICANT ON THE BCM C2 PINS. IT IS NOT A BRAKE SWITCH PROBLEM. 1.MY 2005 MAILBU HAS BEEN FAILING TO START WHEN I TURN OVER THE ENGINE. MY REMOTE CAR STARTER WENT OUT. 2.I BOUGHT IT IN NOV,2010 UNTIL NOW FEB, 2011 IT HAS HAD ABOUT 5 FAILURES TO START. 3.I BOUGHT A NEW BATTERY AND SO FAR IT HAS WORKED BUT MY REMOTE CONTROL START DOES NOT WORK STILL OR ANY OF THE REMOTE CONTROL FEATURES. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALER; HOWEVER, DUE TO THE COST, THE CONTACT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE HIMSELF. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE FUEL GAUGE READ EMPTY ALL THE TIME. THE CONSUMER'S SON INSTALLED A USED FUEL PUMP AND WIRING HARNESS. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. UPDATED 11/18/11

LIGHTS ON BUT NO ONE HOME. *NOT AN ANTIFREEZE/ HEATER CORE LEAK. EXTERIOR VENTS BELOW WINDSHIELD ATOP FIREWALL DRAWING IN NO AIR. MECHANIC SAYS IT MIGHT BE HEATER CONTROL MODULE. BUT MIGHT MEANS AN EXPENSIVE FIX IF ITS THE PROBLEM. *TR

UPDATED 11/16/11 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED DUE TO A SERVICE BULLETIN THAT WAS ISSUED. IT REQUIRED CUTTING OUT THE TURN SIGNAL BULB SOCKET AND SPLICING IN A NEW SOCKET, BECAUSE THE OLD ONE OVERHEATED. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING WAS AN ISSUE ON THE VEHICLE AS WELL. UPDATED 11/18/11*JB

THE DRIVERS SIDE TURN SIGNAL (INSIDE THE HARNESS IN THE HEADLIGHT) KEEPS MELTING THE PLASTIC SNAP IN BASE OF THE TURN SIGNAL LIGHT BULB AND CAUSES IT TO BECOME INOPERATIVE. ALMOST CAUSING OTHER VEHICLES TO CRASH IN TO ME AT 4 WAY STOP SIGNS. THE HARNESS ASSEMBLY GETS VERY HOT. MAY ONE DAY CAUSE A FIRE. I HAVE REPLACED LIGHT BULBS 4 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH. WILL HAVE TO GET SERVICED. THIS IS BECOMING A REAL SAFETY ISSUE IN THE MIDWEST BECAUSE I HAVE TO STICK MY HAND OUT WHEN IT -30 TO USE AS A SIGNAL. THE DEALER CHARGES $267 FOR REPLACEMENT. 3 TIME SO FAR AND I AM NOT SURE WHAT IS NEXT. I BELIEVE GM SHOULD OWN TO THIS PROBLEM AND FIX AS A RECALL. *TR

UNEXPECTED LOSS OF POWER STEERING DURING ACCELERATION - DANGEROUS SITUATION. DEALER CORRECTED PROBLEM USING TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN #08-02-32-005A. THE SERVICE BULLETIN REQUIRED ADDING A GROUND STRAP AND REPLACING THE IGNITION MODULE. SOUNDS LIKE A DESIGN ISSUE (LACK OF REQUIRED GROUND STRAP) CORRECTED IN A SERVICE BULLETIN. IN MY OPINION IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO CORRECT A DESIGN DEFECT. *TR

WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 10-15 MPH, A CHIME SOUNDED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, FOLLOWED BY THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKING. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN INTO A PARKING SPACE SAFELY. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO OPERATE PROPERLY FOR THIRTY SECONDS. THEN THE FAILURE REOCCURRED REPEATEDLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY STATED THERE WAS NOT A RECALL RELATED TO THE DEFECT. THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED A 100,000 MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY PERTAINING TO THE STEERING COLUMN, HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE EXCEEDED THE REQUIRED MILEAGE. THE CONTACT SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER FOR THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,009.
I HAVE A 2005 MALIBU THAT I BOUGHT NEW. IT HAS ALWAYS HAD A "POPPING" NOISE IN THE FRONT END WHEN YOU MAKE A TURN. AT FIRST IT WAS INTERMITTENT, SEEMED LIKE IT DID IT WORSE WHEN YOU MADE SHARP TURNS. I ASKED THE DEALER TO CHECK IT OUT A FEW TIMES - ALWAYS TOLD THEY COULD NEVER FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE OVER THE YEARS, IT SEEMS TO POP ALL OF THE TIME NOW AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMS TO VIBRATE A LITTLE - ESPECIALLY ON ROUGH ROADS. STILL, THE DEALER SAYS THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG--ACTUALLY GOT TIRED OF ASKING THEM & QUIT ASKING WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE. NOW I GET A LETTER ABOUT SOMETHING BEING WRONG WITH THE POWER STEERING AND THEY WILL REPLACE IT FOR 10 YEARS, 100,000 MILES. CALLED THE DEALER-THEY ARGUED THAT IT WAS ONLY 70,000 MILES. HAD TO FAX THEM A COPY OF MY LETTER PROVING IT SAID 100,000 MILES. I ASKED IF THIS WAS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT I'D BEEN HAVING WITH THE POPPING NOISE-THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS PART WASN'T GOING TO FIX THAT POPPING NOISE. HAD TO KEEP ASKING FOR THE PART TO BE REPLACED. I AM HOPING THIS PART WILL FIX WHATEVER THE POPPING NOISE IS. MY SON DRIVES THIS CAR EVERY DAY AND I'M WORRIED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE CAR. *TR
I HAD MY FIRST PROBLEM WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR. IT WOULD JERK & FELT IT WAS MOVING ON IT'S OWN. THEN THE LAMPS WOULD GO OUT AND I WAS REPLACING THE BULBS EVERY MONTH. THEN MY KEY STARTER HAS FAILED TWO TIMES AFTER REPLACING THEM. THE DRIVER SEAT HAS CALAPSED ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE. THE REAR SEAT HANDLE TO RAISE THE SEATS UP AND DOWN HAS BROKEN ON BOTH PASSENGER SIDE. MY LIGHTS HAVE BURNED OUT ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE YOU CAN SEE THE RESIDUE ON THE COVER. THE CHAIRS WAS NOT SCOTCH GUARD PROTECTED AS STATED THEY ARE VERY STAINED EVEN WHEN I TRIED TO WAS THEM. IN READY SOME OF THE OTHERS IT APPEAR AS THOUGH MU CARE HAD ALL THE DEFECTS OF MY COUNTER PARTS. *TR

I WAS TURNING ONTO A ROAD WHILE DRIVING TO WORK AND MY POWER STEERING FAILED. I ALMOST DROVE OFF OF THE ROAD INTO A TREE! THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE STEERING COLUMN MUST BE REPLACED TO FIX THIS ISSUE. *TR
THIS IS IN RELATION TO WHAT I'VE SEEN IN A FEW CRASH IIHS CRASH VIDEOS. I WAS HIT ON THE LEFT SIDE, WITH THE IMPACT RANGE FROM THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL TO THE OUTSIDE MIRROR. I WAS BEGINNING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN WHEN I WAS STRUCK. THE IMPACT ON THE STEER TIRE CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO SPIN QUICKLY TO THE RIGHT AS IT ABSORBED THE ENERGY FROM THE COLLISION. THE STEERING WHEEL TURNED SO VIOLENTLY RIGHTWARD FROM THE FORCE OF THE VEHICLE HITTING IT, THAT I ENDED UP WITH A FRACTURED RIGHT ELBOW AND TORN LIGAMENTS IN MY RIGHT HAND - INJURIES SUSTAINED FROM A COLLISION ON THE LEFT. I HAVE SEEN THE SAME THING IN A FEW IIHS CRASH TEST VIDEOS. IN A FEW OF THEIR VIDEOS, THE STEERING COLUMN SHIFTS SIGNIFICANTLY TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT SO THERE ENDS UP BEING NO CONTACT BETWEEN THE DUMMY'S HEAD AND THE STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG. I DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS COMMUNICATION BETWEEN NHTSA AND THE IIHS, OR TO WHAT STANDARDS ARE SET, AS I'VE SEEN SOME TRULY DISTURBING IIHS VIDEOS ON BRAND NEW CARS; DISTURBING ENOUGH THAT I'M SURPRISED THAT THE VEHICLE IS LET INTO THE MARKET. THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS. MY RIGHT SIDE INJURIES SEEMED VERY STRANGE UNTIL SEEING SOME OF THE IIHS VIDEOS IN SLOW MOTION THAT EXPLAINED HOW THIS HAPPENED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2005 CHEVY MALIBU, I MADE A TURN AND THE DRIVERS SEAT BROKE ON THE RIGHT REAR. THE WELDS BROKE OFF THE FRAME RAIL CAUSING ME TO SWERVE IN TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR NEEDS A NEW SEAT RAIL TO REPAIR THE CAR. THE COST IS ABOUT $800, GM WILL NOT ASSIST IN THE REPAIR OF A DEFECTIVE SEAT WELD. *TR
1. I WAS PASSING A CAR UP HILL ON A CURVE IN THE ROAD. WHEN I ACCELERATE HARD I LOSS MY POWER STEERING. I HAD TO APPLIED MORE PRESSURE ON THE WHEEL TO GET AROUND THE CAR I WAS PASSING BUT HALF WAY AROUND THE CAR THE POWER STEERING KICKED BACK IN BUT BECAUSE OF THE EXTRA PRESSURE I WAS APPLYING ON THE STEERING WHEEL I OVER STEERED AND ALMOST HIT THE GUARD RAIL. THIS WAS ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY IN THE NEW YORK CITY AREA AND EVERYONE WAS TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEED. 2. I EXPERIENCE A LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST CAUSED BY ELECTRICAL INPUT SIGNALS WITHIN THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY. 3. GM SENT A LETTER TOO MY HOME STATING THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT WILL ONLY FIX IT IF THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES. MY CAR IS OVER THAT LIMIT. GM SAYS IT IS NOT A RECALL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE POWER STEERING CUTS OUT AT HIGH SPEEDS. *TR
REPLACED A STEERING ROD AT 34000 & 73000 & 105,000 THAT WAS MADE OF METAL LN 05. GM WENT BACK TO PLASTIC THE NEXT YEAR AS THIS DID NOT HOLD UP. SECOND IS THE REMOTE START PROBLEM. I HAD IT REPAIRED TWO DIFFERENT TIMES AT GM AND DOES NOT WORK AS OF NOW. WAS TOLD IT WAS A BCM PROBLEM EACH TIME.AS IT WAS AN EXPENSIVE FIX TEMPORARY THAT IS.AS MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR! *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTING, THE POWER STEERING WAS OPERATING AS NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING LOCKED UP SEVERAL TIMES WHILE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN SEPTEMBER 21, 201 BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 49,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 79,000.
I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 40MPH AND A WARNING "POWER STEERING "SHOWED UP ON THE DRIVERS INFORMATION CENTER. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY HARD TO STEER. I PULLED OVER SHUT OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT AND EVERYTHING WORKED FINE. THIS HAS HAPPENED 2 OTHER TIMES UNDER SIMILAR CONDITIONS. *TR

THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE STEERING BUT THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNTIL A FAILURE OCCURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 145,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

MY VEHICLE STALLED ON RAILROAD TRACKS I DID HAVE A HEAVY LOAD ON THE KEY CHAIN AND WHEN IT WOULD NOT MOVE I KEPT HITTING THE GAS PEDAL BUT IT WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN IN THE PROCESS OF RAISING MY LEG UP AND DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL I HIT THE IGNITION SWITCH THE ENGINE FAILED I THEN PUT IT IN REVERSE AND NOTHING I SAID TO MYSELF I HAVE GOT TO GET OUT OF THIS CAR THE TRAIN IS GOING TO HIT SO I WAS ABLE TO UNLEASH MY SEATBELT AND OPEN THE DOOR THAT IS THE TIME WHEN THE UNION PACIFIC TRAIN HIT RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY DRIVER S FRONT DOOR I WAS THROWN 30 FEET FROM THE VEHICLE AND OF COURSE THE CAR WAS TOTALED. I WAS AIRLIFTED TO THE HOSPITAL WHEN THEY FINALLY FOUND ME IN A RICE FIELD. I ALMOST DIED FROM THIS ACCIDENT . I DID NOT RECEIVE A LETTER FROM GM STATING THE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE THAT IT WOULD CUT THE ENGINE OFF AS I STATED BEFORE. IT TOOK ME 2 1/2 YEARS TO RECUPERATE. AND I STILL LIVE WITH PROBLEMS TO MY NECK AND SHOULDER. I HAD MY SPLEEN REMOVED ,CONTUSIONS TO MY HEAD ,WHICH TO THIS DAY I STUTTER, I ALSO HAD MY SPINE TWISTED, I SUFFER WITH THAT ALSO. ANYWAY I JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RECALL FROM A TOTAL STRANGER, LAST WEEK THE NEXT DAY I ENTERED MY VIN NUMBER ON THE GM WEBSITE AND IT IS A VEHICLE THAT IS ON THE RECALL LIST. *TR

STEERING ISSUES WITH THE CAR SINCE I BOUGHT IT, BRAND NEW. TOOK IT TO A GARAGE TWICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THESE PARTICULAR CARS WERE HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRONIC STEERING. TODAY MY POWER STEERING SYSTEM FAILED AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK. I SEE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE ON THE INTERNET BUT STILL NOT RECALL. *TR
MY 2005 MALIBU STARTED MAKING A 'THUMPING' SOUND COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT. IT SEEMS TO OCCUR AS THE STEERING WHEEL RETURNS TO CENTER. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT IF IT GETS WORSE I PROBABLY WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN. I CALLED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND TOLD THEM THAT I CONSIDERED THIS TO BE A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM (BASED ON MY RESEARCH OF NUMEROUS VEHICLES WITH FAILED STEERING COMPONENTS) THEY WERE VERY SYMPATHETIC BUT TOTALLY UNCONCERNED ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. MY CAR HAS JUST OVER 42,000 MILES. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY RELATED DEFECT IN THE STEERING COLUMN. *TR
SINCE 2010, WITH CAR ONLY BEING 5 YEARS OLD, THE KEY BEGAN HARDLY WORKING IN THE IGNITION. WE HAD TO KEEP JIGGLING AND RE-TRYING UNTIL WOULD WORK. THE RECALL ONLY COVERED NOTIFYING OWNERS NOT TO PUT EXTRA KEYS ON THEIR KEY CHAIN BUT WOULD NOT COVER THE FACT THAT THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER WAS FAULTY. CONTINUED TO LIVE WITH THIS PROBLEM, THEN THE THEFT DETERRANT LIGHT STARTED GOING ON BECAUSE OF THE NECESSARY JIGGLING -- WHERE THE CAR WON'T START AND YOU HAVE TO TURN TO ACC AND WAIT 10 MINUTES. ONCE AGAIN, DEALER REFUSED TO COVER. STATIONARY PROBLEM, BUT FOR MY ELDERLY FATHER, NOT GOOD FOR THE KEY NOT TO WORK FOR A WHILE, OR WILL NOT START FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES DUE TO THEFT SYSTEM BEING ACTIVIATED
I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CHEVY ABOUT ELECTRIC POWER STEERING LOSS ON CHEVY MALIBU. THE LETTER SAID THAT NOT TO TAKE TO DEALER UNLESS YOU ARE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS. I WASN'T UNTIL YESTERDAY. WHILE TAKING MY CHILDREN TO SCHOOL, THERE WAS LOSS OF STEERING, IT LOCKED DOWN, AND POWER STEERING WAS DISPLAYED IN THE INFORMATION CENTER. I CALL CHEVY AND NOW THEY SAY IT DON'T APPLY TO ME BECAUSE MY CAR IS OVER 100,000 MILES ON IT. VEHICLES INTERMEDIATE DRIVE SHAFT WAS GOING OUT. EVERY TURN YOU MADE IT WOULD MAKE A CLUNKING SOUNDS. OCCURRED ON THE VEHICLE RIGHT AFTER IT WAS BOUGHT. TALKED TO DEALER AND THEY SAID IT JUST NEEDED TO BE LUBED. LUBED VEHICLE OURSELVES AND DID NOTHING. AFTER TIME THE CLUNKING WOULD GET LOUDER AND LOUDER. TOOK IT TO DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOP AND IT WAS THE INTERMEDIATE DRIVE SHAFT. I HAD HEARD FROM A SOURCE THAT THE 2006 MALIBU'S HAD A RECALL ON THE STEERING COLUMN BUT THEY DID NOT RECALL THE 2005. THE VEHICLES STRUCTURE BEHIND THEM ARE EXACTLY THE SAME JUST DIFFERENT BODY STYLES. THIS IS NOT SAFE IF IT WERE TO HAVE GONE OUT IF WE HAD TO HAVE BEEN MAKING SOME SORT OF A TURN OR DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY OR INTERSTATE. SINCE THE NEW PURCHASE OF MY 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU, THE TURN-SIGNAL AND BRAKE-LIGHT BULBS HAVE FAILED 30+ TIMES. MOST FAILURES HAVE BEEN AT THE BASE OF BULB WHERE WIRES CONTACT BULB SOCKET CONDUCTORS. WHEN THE DEALER WAS ASKED TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM, THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND HAD NO SERVICE BULLETIN PERTAINING TO THIS PROBLEM! I HAVE BEEN STOPPED BY POLICE MULTIPLE TIMES AND HAVE HAD NEAR-MISS INCIDENTS DUE TO OTHER DRIVERS NOT SEEING MY TURN SIGNAL OR BRAKE LIGHT. UPON APPROACHING MY VEHICLE AFTER USING REMOTE UNLOCK, THERE WERE FLAMES VISIBLE IN THE HEADLAMP HOUSING AT THE AMBER LENS AREA. TWO YEARS AGO I FOUND AN OBSCURE GM SERVICE NOTICE PERTAINING TO REPLACING THE TURN SIGNAL BULB SOCKET. I PURCHACED THE SPECIFIED PARTS AND REPLACED THEM AS INSTRUCTED IN THIS BULLETIN. ( I AM A CERTIFIED MASTER MECHANIC) I CURRENTLY CARRY THE NECESSARY TOOLS AND BULBS TO REPLACE THESE BULBS AS IT IS A REGULAR OCCURRENCE, BUT MY WIFE IS THE PRIMARY DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE.
