TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH AND MAKING A LEFT TURN, HE HEARD A LOUD CLICKING NOISE UNDER THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDAL. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE STEERING SHAFT; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RESURFACED AND THE TECHNICIANS INSTALLED A MODIFIED PART. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 31,800.
2005 CHEVY MALIBU LT I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING. THERE HAS BEEN A THUMPING NOISE FROM THE FRONT END WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT. NOISE CAN BE PLAINLY HEARD AT LOW SPEEDS. THE STEERING RACK HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES AND THE STEERING SHAFT ONCE. *JB
2 MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED MY CAR I NOTICED A POPPING NOISE IN THE FRONT END. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, TRENOR MOTORS, INC. TO BE FIXED. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE STEERING RACK WAS BAD AND ACCORDING TO THEIR WORK ORDER/INVOICE THEY REPLACED THE STEERING RACK. ON AUGUST , 2009 I HAD THE CAR BACK INTO TRENOR MOTORS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND AGAIN ACCORDING TO THEIR WORK ORDER/INVOICE THEY REPLACED THE STEERING RACK. IN OCTOBER, 2009 THE PROBLEM RESURFACED AND AGAIN I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO TRENOR MOTORS WHERE ACCORDING TO THEIR WORK ORDER/INVOICE THEY REPLACE THE STEERING RACK AGAIN. AFTER WE PICKED THE CAR UP I GOT ROUGHLY 1 MILE DOWN THE ROAD AND I NOTICED THE SAME POPPING/CLUNKING NOISE IN THE FRONT END THAT OCCURRED ALL OTHER TIMES. I TURNED AROUND AND TOOK THE CAR BACK TO TRENOR MOTORS WHERE THEY LUBED THE I-SHAFT. AROUND AUGUST OF 2010 THE SAME NOISE RETURNED AND BY THIS TIME THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND TRENOR REFUSED TO FIX THE VEHICLE WITHOUT CHARGING ME. I FELT THAT SINCE THIS WAS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE CAR FROM THE TIME I PURCHASED IT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS. I THEN CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS AND SPOKE WITH A MAN BY THE NAME OF JOHN AND EXPLAINED MY SITUATION. HE DID SOME RESEARCH AND CALLED ME BACK LEAVING A VOICE MAIL. HE AND I WERE UNABLE TO CONNECT BECAUSE OF OUR SCHEDULES. I FINALLY WROTE A LETTER TO GM ASKING THEM TO CONTACT ME IN WRITING, BUT DIDN'T HEAR FROM THEM. I THEN CONTACEDT THE BBB WHO COULD NOT HELP ME BECAUSE OF THE AGE OF CAR. I FINALLY CONTACTED THE OHIO ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE WHO CONTACTED GM. A LADY NAMED FRANCES FROM GM CONTACTED ME AT WHICH TIME I EXPLAINED THE SITUATION AFTER A WEEK OR SO SHE CONTACTED ME BACK TO TELL ME SHE HAD CONTACTED TRENOR MOTORS AND THAT THEY WERE UNWILLING TO FIX MY CAR WITHOUT CHARGE AND THAT GM WAS UNABLE TO GIVE ME ANY RESTITUTION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TURN SIGNALS OVER HEATED, WHICH CAUSED THE SOCKETS TO MELT. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
AFTER THE FIRST 200 MILES ON THE ODOMETER, THE CAR HAD FRONT ROTOR PROBLEMS. THE DEALER TRIED TO FIX IT 2 TIMES BY TURNING THE ROTORS, ONLY TO RETURN IN LESS THAN 2,000 MILES EACH TIME. THEY FINALLY CHANGED OUT THE ROTORS FOR BRAND NEW ONES AFTER I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER OWNER AND MANAGEMENT ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THE SECOND ISSUE WAS LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. THIS WAS CAUSED BY A FAULTY ELECTRICAL CONNECTION AT THE FUSE BOX, WHICH I TOOK IT UPON MYSELF TO REPAIR AND THE PROBLEM NEVER RETURNED. THE THIRD PROBLEM STARTED IN JANUARY 2007, JUST ONE AND A HALF YEARS OF OWNING THE CAR. STEERING ASSEMBLY NOISES IDENTICAL TO ALL PREVIOUS REPORTS WAS CORRECTED BY A RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT. IN JULY 2007 (JUST 6 MONTHS LATER) IT WAS CHANGED AGAIN. NOW IN OCTOBER (3 MONTHS LATER) IT IS SCHEDULED TO RETURN TO THE DEALER FOR YET ANOTHER REPLACEMENT, MAKING THIS THE 4TH RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY TO DATE (INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL). THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE FOR A VEHICLE OF THIS PRICE RANGE... AND THE ONLY SOLUTION TO DATE IS TO CONTINUE TO CHANGE OUT THE ASSEMBLY. *TR
IN THE PAST WEEK, BOTH OF MY SONS' CARS DEVELOPED THE SAME PROBLEM. THE THEFT SECURITY SYSTEM (GM PASSLOCK SYSTEM) FAILED WITH A RESULTING COST OF $500.00 EACH TO REPAIR. ON E WAS A 2002 OLDSMOBILE ALERO AND THE OTHER A 2005 CHEVROLET CLASSIC. THIS IS A BIT TOOOOO COINCIDENTAL FOR ME. I LOOKED AT FORUMS ONLINE AND HAVE FOUND THAT MANY PEOPLE WITH GM VEHICLES HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME PART NUMBER.... THIS IS A RECALL ITEM, AND GM NEEDS TO MAKE IT RIGHT IF THEY WANT TO SELL CARS TO AMERICANS. THE CARS JUST REFUSE TO RECOGNIZE THE IGNITION KEY. THIS GOES FOR BACKUP IGNITION KEYS TOO. HELP US. *TR
2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU RECALL CUSTOMER STATES THAT THE RACK AND PINION WAS REPLACED AND IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY**CC THE CONSUMER STATED THE SECOND GEAR WAS SLOW TO ENGAGE, THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND THE BRAKES MADE A NOISE WHEN THEY WERE APPLIED. THE DEALER CLEANED THE FRONT BRAKES AND APPLIED TREATMENT TO THEM. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE TIRES WERE CUPPED. *JB

I OWN A 2005 CHEVY MALIBU THAT FOR APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AND A HALF. DURING THIS TIME I HAVE NEED TO REPLACE THE BULBS IN THE RIGHT FRONT TURN SIGNAL TWICE AND THE REAR RIGHT TURN SIGNAL ONCE. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 MALIBU WITH 50000 MILES ON IT AND THE POWER STEERING RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF. THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING AND SOMETIMES THE STEERING IS REAL TIGHT AND SOMETIMES ITS REALLY LOOSE. IT BECOMES VERY DANGEROUS WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP I BROUGHT IT TO DOESN'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG. I KNOW WHAT IS WRONG - MY STEERING DOESN'T WORK 100% OF THE TIME. I HAVE A SAFE DRIVING RECORD AND DRIVE RESPOSIBLY AND DO NOT BEAT ON MY CARS. I KNOW IT IS NOT MY DRIVING STLYE, RATHER IT IS A FLAW IN DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE POWER STEERING.
THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON BY THEMSELVES, THEY BLINK OFF AND ON. SOMETIMES THEY JUST STAY ON,AND OTHER TIMES WHEN YOU BRAKE THEY WANT COME ON AT ALL. HAVE HAD THE CAR AT THE DEALER 3 OR 4 TIMES THEY CAN'T SEEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM . I HAVE SEARCHED ONLINE AND OTHER OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY ADJUSTED BRAKE SWITCH AND THEY DID SOME OTHER THINGS BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT THE VEHICLE MADE A VERY LOUD THUMPING NOISE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE STEERING RACK AND PINION AND CORRECTED THE FAILURE FOR 2 YEARS; HOWEVER, IT RECURRED. THE SECOND TIME THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED AND FAILED AFTER 8 MONTHS. THE STEERING SHAFT WAS ALSO REPLACED ON TWO OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT IS AWARE OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED DUE TO FREQUENT FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,927. UPDATED 09/11/09 *BF UPDATED 09/15/09.*JB
I OWNED THE 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS. DURING THAT TIME I HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR TURN SIGNAL ONCE, AND THE FRONT TURN SIGNALS ABOUT 3 TIMES EACH. SOMETHINGWAS DEFINITELY WRONG WITH THE ELECTRICAL PART OF THIS VEHICLE. THE WARRANTY HAS NOW EXPIRED, SO I CAN GET NOTHING DONE ABOUT IT FROM GM OR CHEVROLET. *AK A SECOND COMPLAINT CONCERNS THE FAN FOR THE AIRCONDITIONER/HEATER. IT RATTLES CONSTANTLY. BEFORE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED I TOOK IT IN TWICE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAD REPAIRS DONE ON THE VEHICLE. ONCE THE MOTOR WAS REPLACED . . . WAS TOLD THEIR WAS SOMETHING LODGED IN THE FAN. A WEEK LATER THE SAME NOISE. NOTHING HAS BEEN RESOLVED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE CONTACT'S FIVE AND SEVEN YEAR OLD CHILDREN OPENED THE REAR DOOR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE HAS NO CHILD SAFETY LOCKS ON THE REAR DOORS. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE DOOR LOCKS ARE TOO LONG. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000.
2005 CHEVY MALIBU HEADLIGHT OVER HEATING. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE FRONT COVER OF THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNALS MELT. WHEN THE COVER DRIPS ONTO THE LIGHT BULB IT PUTS A HOLE IN THE BULB. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE PLASTIC COVERINGS WERE DISCOLORED ABOVE THE BULB DUE TO EXTREME HEAT WHICH WAS AN OBVIOUS DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND /OR IMPROPER BULB. NOT ONLY DID THE HEADLIGHTS FAIL, BUT THE RIGHT FRONT PARK AND SIGNAL LIGHT HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. *JB
NO CHILD REAR DOOR SAFETY LOCKS. *JB
2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE VEERED OFF THE ROAD, INTO A DITCH, OVERTURNED AND EJECTED THE DRIVER. *SMD THE CONSUMER WROTE IN ON BEHALF OF HIS DECEASED DAUGHTER, WHO WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE. ACCORDING TO THE POLICE REPORT, THE DRIVER MAY HAVE BEEN SLEEPY. *JB
THE SERPENTINE BELT KEEPS BLOW OUT ON THE CAR, AND NOW FOR THE THIRD TIME IT HAS ASLO BLEW A HOSE . I AM SO INCONVINCED BY THIS GM PRODUCT. *AK
IT HAS BEEN OVER 5 MONTHS SINCE RECALL, AND GM HAS STILL NOT COME UP WITH THE REPLACEMENT PARTS. THIS DELAY APPEARS TO BE INTENTIONAL. CAN NHTSA DO ANYTHING TO SPEED UP THIS PROCESS? *TR
2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAX, POWER STEERING FAILURE - TOTAL LOSS, LOCKED UP OF STEERING CONTROL AT LOW SPEED. DURING LOW SPEED TURN DRIVER COULD NOT TURN WHEEL AND LOST ALL STEERING CONTROL OF VEHICLE. THIS FAILURE WAS ACCOMPANIED BY A POWER STEERING WARNING ON THE CAR'S INFORMATION PANEL. VEHICLE WAS STOPPED SUCCESSFULLY WITH OUT ACCIDENT. DRIVER TURN OFF IGNITION, RESTARTED, AND STEERING CONTROL RETURNED BUT SEEMED HESITANT. ALTHOUGH THIS WAS BEING REPORTED AS OF THIS DATE 5/15/0) IT ALSO OCCURRED A WEEK EARLIER BUT RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION. PREVIOUSLY THIS CAR HAD WARRANTY SERVICE ON A STEERING SYSTEM "NOISE" COVERED UNDER A TSB AND HAD BEEN WORKING NORMALLY UNTIL THIS ISSUE OCCURRED. VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO CHEVROLET DEALER SERVICE TODAY. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATES WHEN THE FUEL IS LOW IN HER VEHICLE. THE FUEL GAUGE ONLY INDICATES WHEN THE VEHICLE IS FULL OR EMPTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A CHEVROLET DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE FUEL SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND THE FUEL LINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR WOULD COST $1,300. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
IN 2006 I BOUGHT AN 2005 CHEVY MALIBU. BEFORE 49600 THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP 8 TIMES BEFORE THEY COULD TELL THAT IT WAS THE STEERING COLUMN. IT GOES OUT WITHOUT WARNING. WE HAVE ALMOST WRECKED SEVERAL TIMES. IT HAS GONE OUT GOING DOWN THE INTERSTATE. I STARTED TO REPLACE IT, BUT BEFORE I DID THAT I RESEARCHED THE MATTER. IT APPEARS THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THAT I AM HAVING, FROM THE 2005S TO THE 2008S, FROM THE MALIBU TO THE MALIBU MAXX. I HAVE NOT REPLACED IT BECAUSE MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THEM CHANGED THREE OR FOUR TIMES AND THEY KEEP BREAKING. I DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY TO JUST THROW AWAY. I CAN'T AFFORD TO SELL IT EITHER OR TRADE IT IN. I AM THE ONE WHO DRIVES IT MOST OF THE TIME BECAUSE I AM AFRAID IT WILL GO OUT WHEN MY WIFE IS IN A CURVE, AND SHE COULD WRECK AND DIE BECAUSE SHE IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO CONTROL IT WHEN IT GOES OUT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE ON MY WAY HOME AND MY BACK BREAKS LOCKED UP AND THE TIRES AND HUBCAPS STARTED TO BURN. I HAD NO IMMEDIATE EXIT SO I HAD TO CONTINUE TO ROLL SLOW. ONCE I EXITED THE INTERSTATE MY WHEEL WAS ON FIRE. I PUT IT OUT WITH AN EXTINGUISHER. I ASKED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID NO RECALLS. I HAD TO GET THE TOW TRUCK AND HE SAID IT WAS NOT THE FIRST FOR MY CAR MAKE AND MODEL. I REPLACED THE BREAKS, ROTORS AND TIRES AND 2 WEEKS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. ONLY THIS TIME I WAS IN A PARKING LOT OF A GROCERY STORE. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD A TOTAL BREAK JOB AND REPLACE TIRES AND HUBCAPS. MY POWER STEERING LOCKED UP AND IT WAS VERY HARD BUT WAS ABLE TO USE MANUALLY. THE MANUAL SAID TO SHUT OFF CAR AND RESTART TO RESET THE POWER STEERING. THIS WAS NOT SAFE AND VERY SCARY. *JS
CHEVROLET MALIBU 2005. DRIVING ON A LOCAL STREET, I MADE A RIGHT ONTO ANOTHER STREET AND THE STEERING BECAME STIFF, HARD TO MAKE A SHARP TURN AND I HAD TO PULL THE STEERING WHEEL HARD AND USE AN EXTREME AMOUNT OF EFFORT TO COMPLETER A TURN, A BELL WENT OFF. I WAS UNABLE TO STEER TO THE LEFT OR THE RIGHT. THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN RESTARTED THE CAR AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL FREELY FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS THEN THE WHEEL BECAME STIFF AGAIN. IF I HAD REACHED THE HIGHWAY TO GET TO MY DESTINATION DRIVING 50 MPH AND I HAD TO SUDDENLY QUICKLY STEER TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT TO AVOID AN POTENTIAL PROBLEM, I MAY HAVE GOTTEN INTO A POTENTIALLY SERIOUS ACCIDENT INJURING MYSELF & OTHERS. I PURCHASED THE CAR USED & ONLY HAD IT 10 MONTHS. I AM FINANCING THE CAR. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE NOW BECAUSE IT'S ONLY A 2005, ONLY 2 YEARS OLD WITH A POSSIBLE MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM. I WANT TO KNOW IF THERE ARE OTHER 2005 CHEVY MALIBU'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WHO HAVE SERVICED THE VEHICLE AND IF THEY CONTINUE TO HAVE THE PROBLEM AND IF THERE ARE MORE OWNERS WITH THIS COMPLAINT. I OWN A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU THAT JUST WENT OUT OF WARRANTY WHEN I HAPPENED TO BE FOLLOWING MY HUSBAND WHO WAS DRIVING ANOTHER VEHICLE. FOR 150 MILES MY HUSBAND COMPLAINED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS VIBRATED CONSTANTLY CAUSING A DISTRACTION FOR ANYONE DRIVING IN FRONT OF ME. UNTIL THAT TIME I HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING THAT THE HEADLIGHTS HAD A PROBLEM. HE CHECKED THEM WHEN WE GOT HOME AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS NO WAY TO TIGHTEN THEM. I HAVE CHECKED FOR RECALLS ON THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND NONE. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT COULD BE DONE TO RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT COST TO ME SINCE I WAS SURE THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN THERE SINCE I GOT THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THERE WAS NO WAY TO FIX IT.AK
I HAVE A CHEVROLET MALIBU 2005, THE SIDEWALLS OF THE TIRES ARE CRACKING AND I NEED TO REPLACE THEM. I HAVE ONLY HAD MY VEHICLE FOR A YEAR AND A HALF. I HAVE ALWAYS KEPT UP MY SERVICES AND TIRE ROTATIONS. I HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE 2005 WITH DIFFERENT TIRES AND NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS. MY FRONT PASSENGER TIRE BLEW OUT DUE TO THE SIDEWALL CRACKING. I NOW HAVE TO REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRES. DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM, THEY SHOULD BE REPLACED AT MANUFACTURER'S EXPENSE DUE TO ALL THE DAMAGES I HAVE RECENTLY READ UP ON THIS PROBLEM.
THE METAL FRAME ON THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT (BACK RIGHT CORNER) COMPLETELY BROKE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY 1.5 YEARS OLD THE CAR LOT WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WAS GOING TO CHARGE ME $800.00 TO REPLACE IT SO I DIDN'T DO IT. A FRIEND OWNS A JUNK YARD AND HE HAS THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL CAR BROUGHT IN AFTER IT WRECKED SO I WAS GOING TO GET THAT SEAT OUT OF THE CAR, THAT SEAT WAS BROKE IN THE SAME SPOT. MY BROTHER IS A WELDER AND HE SAID THE METAL IS TOO THIN TO EVEN BE ABLE TO WELD IT TO FIX IT. I WAS WONDERING IF THIS WAS A RECALL BECAUSE IF I WRECK THE SEAT AND I WILL BE GOING INTO THE AIRBAG TOGETHER. *TR

THEN, AFTER BEING REPLACED IT NEEDED TO BE TAKEN TO A DEALER TO HAVE A FLASH DONE TO IT, FOR THE CAR TO RECOGNIZE THE NEW IGNITION. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE AND THE BRAKES STIFFENED. THE VEHICLE THEN STALLED AND THE REAR WHEELS LOCKED. THE ENGINE WILL RUN, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILS TO MOVE. THE FAILURE OCCURS EVERY TWO DAYS. IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE DRIVEN, THE CONTACT MUST WAIT APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR BEFORE SHE CAN RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 39,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.

STEERING RACK HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES ON MY 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. THE STEERING WAS ACTING ERRATIC AND "THUNKING" WHEN STEERING. 3 TIMES THE POWER STEERING HAS QUIT ON ME. THE CAR BECOMES EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER. I KNOW MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE IN THIS CONDITION. THE FIRST TIME THE POWER STEERING FAILED, I DROVE IT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER. WHEN I TOOK THE SERVICE ADVISOR OUT, THE SYSTEM HAD RESET ITSELF AND THE STEERING WAS FINE. THE NEXT 2 TIMES, I PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF FOR A SHORT TIME AND RESTARTED IT AND THE SYSTEM RESET ITSELF AGAIN. AS MENTIONED, THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE STEERING RACK 3 TIMES, EACH TIME SAYING THIS IS AN IMPROVED PART, AND WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. BUT IT DOES. *NM
MY HUSBAND AND I PURCHASED A USED CERTIFIED 2005 MALIBU MAXX IN JULY OF 2006, BY THE TIME THE WEATHER GOT COLD, I NOTICED A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE FRONT END. IT WAS TAKEN IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE STEERING BOX. THE SECOND TIME WAS IN MARCH 07, THEY COULD NOT VERIFY THE NOISE, THEN AGAIN IN APRIL I TOOK THE CAR BACK AND THEY REPLACED A FRONT SWAY BAR LINK. THE NOISE IS STILL THERE. IT GETS SO MUCH WORSE IN COLD WEATHER IT CAN BE REALLY SCARY ON THE HIGHWAY, IT ALSO HAS A INCONSISTENT PULL TO THE LEFT AND HAS BEEN ALIGNED, AND TIRES ROTATED TO NO AVAIL. 2005 CHEVY MALIBU, 95000 MILES. FOR 60000 MILES HAVE HAD LIMITED IF ANY POWER STEERING. IT GENERALLY GOES OUT RIGHT AWAY WHEN OUTSIDE TEMP IS ABOVE 60 DEGREES. OTHERWISE WITHIN 20 MILES OF DRIVING IT GOES OUT. WHEN IT GOES OUT I AM USUALLY GOING AROUND A CORNER OR CLOVERLEAF. WHEN POWER STEERING GOES OUT STEERING BECOMES EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN AND USUALLY TRIES TO GO BACK TO A FORWARD DIRECTION. NOT CONVENIENT WHEN TRYING TO TURN. MY WIFE IT TOTALLY UNABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR, FOR IT WOULD LEAD TO A CRASH. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE, AFTER INVESTIGATING THIS PROBLEM ONLINE, THAT CHEVY HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A HUGE ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. THE COUPLE OF TIME I HAVE TAKEN IT INTO A CHEVY DEALER I WAS TOLD THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON THIS CAR. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT IN THERE WAS ONLY 38,000 MILES ON THE CAR. NEEDLESS TO SAY CHEVY HAS LOST A CUSTOMER. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT STARTED AROUND THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR 2007. *TR
AFTER ALLOWING VEHICLE TO WARM UP APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES, PUT VEHICLE IN REVERSE TO BACK OUT OF DRIVEWAY. VEHICLE'S STEERING FAILED, WAS UNABLE TO TURN STEERING WHEEL FOR DURATION OF ABOUT ONE MINUTE, THEN STEERING ASSIST BEGAN TO WORK AGAIN AND I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL. SEVERAL TIMES PREVIOUSLY OVER THE LAST SIX MONTHS STEERING HAS SEEMED VERY STIFF ON OCCASIONS, BUT NOT TO THE DEGREE THAT STEERING FAILED. *NM
TL* - THE CONTACT COMPLAINED ABOUT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THE BRAKE LIGHT FUSE FAILED. THE FRONT LEFT BLINKER LIGHT FAILED, AND THE VEHICLE STALLED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE VEHICLE DID RESTART. ON DEC 31, 2006, THE VEHICLE STALLED IN A BUSY INTERSECTION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS USING THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER, AT WHICH TIME THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VEHICLE DID NOT LOSE COMPLETE POWER, BUT WAS TOWED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A BAD ELECTRICAL HARNESS. *AK UPDATED 1/30/2007 - THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY.
