2005 MALIBU MAXX LS- TICKING NOISE SHAFT WENT ROD TIRE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS ENGINE ON BUT NOTHING IS REGISTERING CAR SEEM TO LOCK UP, SAME BRAKE LIGHT GOES OUT, CAR HESITATES,REPLACED BRAKES AFTER ONLY 2YR, NEW TIRE. I FILED A COMPLAIN WITH ATTORNEY GENERAL BILL MCCOLLUM. I HAVE INVOICES OF HOW MANY TIME MY CAR HAS GONE IN TO THE SHOP FOR MAJOR PROBLEMS AND EVER SINCE IT LOCK UP AND HESITATE I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT. I DID FOUND OTHER CONSUMER WITH THE SAME COMPLAINS THAT I HAVE. THEY HAVE HAD TO REPAIR TIRE RODS, SHAFT AND MOST DANGEROUS IS THE STEERING COLUMN IS LOCKING UP. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING LONG DISTANCE OR ON THE HIGHWAY. PLEASE HELP ME. I WROTE TO GMAC VP TIMOTHY LEE WITH OUT NO RESPOND. MR. LEE PASSED MY COMPLAINT TO A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP THAT REPEATS HIMSELF AND WONT LET YOU SPEAK. PLEASE IF YOU WANT CONTACT ATTORNEY OFFICE THEY HAVE MY COMPLAINT ON FILE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING BECAME EXTREMELY STIFF. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO HER RESIDENCE AT LESS THAN 40 MPH. THE DEALER ADVISED HER THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN SIX MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE COULD BE RELATED TO THE RACK AND PINION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED SHE RECEIVED AN UNKNOWN RECALL FOR THE RACK AND PINION AND WHEN TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, SHE WAS ADVISED THAT THE RECALL WOULD NOT BE HONORED DUE TO THE MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 230,000.
2005 MALIBU MAXX WAS SENT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SOME WARRENTY SERVICE WORK ON PROBLEMS WITH FRONT END NOISES. THE CAR WAS RETURNED 30 MINUTES AFTER BEING DROPPED OFF. THE DEALER SAID THE CAR HAD A BAD STEERING RACK AND SHAFT. THE PARTS WERE ORDERED AND THE CAR RETURNED FOR DRIVING UNTIL THE PARTS WERE RECIEVED. LESS THAN 100 MILES LATER THE CAR LOST STEERING CONTROL AND SLAMMED INTO A SEMI TRUCK ON A MAJOR FREEWAY. THE CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS. I DID AN INTERNET SEARCH AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM OTHERS HAVE EXPECIENCED. *NM
STEERING HAD A CLUNKING NOISE AND WAS HARD TO PULL AWAY FROM CURB. WHILE DRIVING STEERING WOULD TIGHTEN UP CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON FREEWAY TOOK TO DEALERSHIP REPLACED STEERING COLUMN.. JULY OF 07 STARTED HAVING SAME ISSUES TOOK TO DEALERSHIP REPLACED SHAFT KIT.APRIL 2010 WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHEN STEERING TIGHTENED WAS LUCKY TO GET TO OFF RAMP SAFELY. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP REPLACED SHAFT KIT. JANUARY 2010 LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING COULD OF BEEN ANOTHER DANGEROUS SITUATION. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP REPLACED STEERING COLUMN. SEPTEMBER 6 2013 STARTED CLUNKING TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP $1000 TO SUPPOSEDLY FIX IT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL PULSATED WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS PRIOR TO THE FAILURES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ROTORS WERE RUSTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED IN JUNE OF 2007, IN WHICH THE REAR ROTORS WERE RUSTED AND REPLACED AGAIN. AT 44,783 MILES, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE FRONT ROTORS WERE RUSTED AND REPLACED A THIRD TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,021 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 51,555. UPDATED 02-25-08 *BF
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE POWER STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $1,000. THREE YEARS LATER, WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT HEARD A KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE RACK AND PINION WAS FAILING. THE REPAIR WOULD COST $500. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT A COMPLAINT WAS FILED AND THAT HE WOULD RECEIVE A FOLLOW UP CALL ON THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,748 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
LEFT DIRECTIONAL LIGHT BULB BURNS OUT, BECAUSE THE SOCKETS THAT HOLD THE BULB OVERHEAT AND MELT THE BULBS. OCCURS BECAUSE THE DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS OVERHEAT. HAVE BURNED OUT 4 BULBS IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS. OVERHEATING IS STARTING TO AFFECT THE RIGHT DIRECTIONAL AS WELL. WILL NEED TO REPLACE BOTH SOCKETS. *TR

THE STEERING GOT ROUGH ,AND WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL SHE HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE, BUT NOT SURE IF IT WAS FROM THE WHEEL OR THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP IN SEPTEMBER 2006 AND THEY REPLACED THE RACK AND PINION STEERING. ALSO, THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER IN NOVEMBER 2006 FOR THE SAME FAILURE ,AND THEY STATED THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND THE FAILURE ON THE VEHICLE. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A CLUNKING NOISE WHILE TURNING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE RACK AND PINION WAS REPLACED. TWO MONTHS LATER, THE PROBLEM RETURNED AND THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE RACK AND PINION A SECOND TIME.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVY MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH SHE HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE LEFT WHEEL WHEN SHE MADE A LEFT TURN. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY SIX MONTHS AFTER THE REPAIR, THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. AS OF AUGUST 10, 2007, THE MECHANIC HAS NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,484 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,653.
I OWN A 2005 CHEVY MALIBU LS V6, THE BRAKE PEDAL GRINDS WHEN YOU PRESS IT, THEN IT IS HARD TO GET THE CAR INTO GEAR, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL STAY ON OR NOT COME ON AT ALL. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP WHEN UNDER WARRANTY THAT THEY HAD TO PLACE THE ENTIRE COMPUTER SYSTEM BACK IN OCT 2006, BUT IT IS CONTINUING TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT IT DID IN 2006. *TR

AFTER EXAMINING THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE BURNING ODOR WAS COMING FROM THE HEAD LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE HEAD LIGHT WIRE HARNESS WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
PURCHASED VEHICLE IN OCT, 2006 AT WHICH TIME WE FOUND THE STEERING RACK NEEDED REPLACEMENT, THE REPLACEMENT LASTED UNTIL JUNE OF 2007. AT WHICH TIME IT WAS REPLACED AGAIN. NOW IT IS OCTOBER 2007 AND THE RACK IS BAD AGAIN AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED . I WANT TO KNOW WHAT CHEVROLET IS GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS PROBLEM? *JB

THE CONSUMER HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TURN SIGNAL FAILED. THE DASH LIGHT AND TAIL LIGHT FAILED. *NM
STEERING LOCK AND KNOCKS WHEN TURNING THE CAR. VEHICLE HAS 44000 MILES ON IT. STARTED ABOUT THE TIME THE WARRANTY RAN OUT. *NM
THE TURN SIGNALS KEEP BURNING OUT. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERS BUT WAS TOLD THAT MY WARRANTY HAD RUN OUT. SO I AM STUCK BUYING LIGHTS ALMOST EVERY WEEK. *NM
I BOUGHT A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU APRIL 6, 2006 WITH 17,000 MILES. IN OCTOBER OF 2006 WITH 31,500 MILES THE STEERING WAS MAKING TERRIBLE POPPING NOISES. THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING RACK AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR A FEW MONTHS. AT 41,000 MILES I AGAIN HAD TO HAVE THE STEERING RACK REPLACED, THIS TIME GM COVERED IT AS A "GOODWILL" GESTURE. NOW, AT 54,000 MILES, THE STEERING IS MAKING THE SAME NOISE AGAIN. IT CAN'T BE SAFE TO DRIVE. THREE STEERING RACKS IN 20,000 MILES IS PRETTY EXCESSIVE. *JB
MY VEHICLE IS A 2005 CHEVY MALIBU MAXX. THE VEHICLE DOESN'T ALWAYS TURN OVER. I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE IN THE SHOP A COUPLE OF TIMES TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM AND THE CHEVY DEALER CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT. I WILL TRY TO START MY VEHICLE BUT IT DOESN'T ALWAYS CRANK OVER. IT WILL CHUG A LOT AND THEN STALL OUT. OTHER TIMES IT WILL CHUG AND ACT LIKE IT WILL STALL AND THEN TURN OVER. SOMETIMES IT TAKES 2-3 TIMES FOR ME TO TRY AND GET THE VEHICLE TO START. I CALLED MY SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE CHEVY DEALER EVERY TIME IT HAPPENED AND THE ONLY COMMON FACTOR WAS THAT IT WAS HAPPENING EVERY 800-1000 MILES APPROXIMATELY. IT DIDN'T MATTER HOW COLD OR HOT IT WAS, WET OR DRY. IT HAS BEEN AWFUL! NOTHING HAS BEEN REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE TO TRY AND FIX THE PROBLEM WITH IT STARTING. MY CAN HAS JUST OVER 32500 MILES AND IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE MOST RECENT TIME WAS LATE SEPTEMBER 2006. I AM NOT SURE ON THE EXACT DATE THAT I CALLED MY CAR DEALER. I ALSO TOOK MY VEHICLE IN ON 9-12-06 FOR A POPPING SOUND IN THE STEERING WHEN TURNING. WE FOUND OUT THAT THE CENTER STEERING SHAFT WAS BROKE. IT WAS REPLACED. THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE INTERIOR FRONT BLINKER NOT WORKING BUT THE EXTERIOR DID. THEN SHORTLY AFTER THE LEFT FRONT BLINKER BLEW. *JB

I WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION ON SEPTEMBER 14, 2006. I WAS TRAVELING WEST BOUND ON LAKETON RD. THERE WAS A CAR COMING EASTBOUND IN MY LANE. I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO TURN ONTO THE STREET I WAS TURNING, BUT BY THE TIME I FIGURED OUT HE WAS COMING AT ME, IT WAS TOO LATE TO GET IN ANOTHER LANE OR GET AWAY FROM BEING HIT. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. SINCE THE CRASH, I'VE BEEN HAVING BACK PAIN. *JB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING AND IT BECAME VERY STIFF. HE WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE TO HIS DESTINATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR FREE. FOUR MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE STEERING FAILED AGAIN. THE DEALER MADE THE REPAIRS FOR FREE ONCE AGAIN. THE STEERING COLUMN CONTINUED TO FAIL OVER THE NEXT THREE YEARS ON FIVE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS RECENTLY REPAIRED IN JANUARY OF 2009 FOR THE STEERING SHAFT. THE STEERING SHAFT WAS REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $100. THE CONTACT HAD TO PAY A DEDUCTIBLE FOR THIS REPAIR BECAUSE THE STEERING COLUMN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE WARRANTY. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WERE GOING TO OFFER HIM A SEVEN YEARS OR 70,000 MILE WARRANTY FOR THE STEERING COLUMN. RATTLE IN STEERING WHILE DRIVING DOWN ROAD SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING LOOSE IN STEERING & MAKES YOU THINK ITS COMING APART DEALER HAS INSTALLED NEW RACK & PINION BUT I THINK ITS SOMETHING IN THE ELECTRIC STEERING BOX UNDER DASH AND ITS STILL MAKES NOISE. *TR
SINCE PURCHASING MY 2005 CHEVY MALIBU MAXX IN SEPTEMBER OF 2006, THE VEHICLE HAS REQUIRED AN INORDINATE AMOUNT OF MAINTENANCE TIME., ESPECIALLY FOR A CONSERVATIVE DRIVER LIKE MYSELF. IN THREE YEARS, BOTH LOWER CONTROL ARMS WITH BALL JOINTS (THE ARMS ARE OF ALUMINUM CONSTRUCTION) HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE. IN THE SAME TIME, THE CAR HAS TWICE NEEDED TIE ROD REPLACEMENT MY GARAGE MECHANIC INDICATES THAT OTHER MALIBU MAXX CUSTOMERS, EVEN WITH A NEWER MODEL YEAR, ARE EXPERIENCING IDENTICAL PROBLEMS. *TR
THE BRAKES LIGHTS ON MY VEHICLE COME ON WITHOUT PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE BRAKES RESULTING IN THE CRUISE CONTROL TO KICK OFF. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL GO OFF ONCE THE BRAKES ARE PRESSED. THIS PRESENTS AN UNSAFE SITUATION AS IT IS NEVER KNOWN WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN. THIS RESULTED IN MY VEHICLE BEING REAR ENDED WHILE AT A STOP SIGN COMING OFF THE OFF RAMP FROM THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THIS ISSUE FIXED SEVERAL TIMES AND IT KEEPS REOCCURRING. THE POWER STEERING GOES COMPLETELY OUT ON THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING AT RANDOM TIMES. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THIS FIXED AT LEAST TWO TIMES. I KNOW THAT THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS ON BOTH ISSUES FOR MY MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR HOWEVER I KEEP GETTING TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT ON THE LIST. *TR
CLUNKING IN STEERING AGAIN. DEALERSHIP SAID THE STEERING BOX 'NEW IMPROVED" WENT OUT AND SAID THAT THE NOISE IS COMING IN FROM INSIDE OF THE BOX. THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT KEEPS GOING OUT. THIS IS THE THIRD STEERING BOX. MALIBU ONLY HAS 34,500 MILES. DEALERSHIP TIGHTENED STEERING WHILE WAITING FOR THE NEW BOX. THE CAR WOULD NOT STRAIGHTEN FROM MINOR CORRECTIONS. IF YOU TURN TO THE LEFT IT WOULD KEEP GOING LEFT AND IF YOU CORRECTED IT WOULD GO TO TOWARD THE OPPOSITE SIDE INTO ONCOMING VEHICLES. RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP TOLD THEM IT WAS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN AND COULDN'T DRIVE IT. THEY FINALLY GAVE ME A RENTAL CAR. APPROXIMATE DATE 8 OF 06. *NM
I PURCHASED MY 2005 CHEVY MALIBU MAXX LS AS A "PROGRAM CAR" THINKING IT WAS THE NEXT BEST THING TO A NEW CAR. I GUESS I WAS WRONG. SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IN APRIL 2006 I HAVE HAD CONSISTENT TROUBLE WITH MY FRONT END. I HAVE HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR WARRANTY REPAIRS FOUR TIMES! NOW AT 50,500 MILES MY FRONT END IS ACTING UP AGAIN. THE LAST TIME I HAD MY REPAIRS DONE I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND CALLED GMAC AND ASKED FOR A REPURCHASE. GMAC CONTACTED MY DEALER AND RETURNED A CALL TO ME STATING THAT I SHOULD TRY ANOTHER DEALER THEY COULD NOT GET ANYWHERE WITH MY CURRENT DEALER. I WAS NOT SURPRISED AFTER BEING TOLD BY THE SHOP LEADER THAT"HIS WIFE'S CAR DID THE SAME THING AND THAT THE BEST THING I COULD DO IS DRIVE IT TILL ITS PAID FOR! I HAVE HAD IT WITH THIS CAR AND THE SERVICE MY LOCAL DEALER . I LOVE GMAC AND I WISH THEY WOULD BE MORE AGGRESSIVE AT DEALING WITH BAD DEALERSHIPS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000. HAVE REPLACED LIGHTS 3 TIMES SINCE OWNED CAR. SOMETHING IS WRONG TO MAKE IT BURN OUT TURN SIGNAL AND MELT THE LENS AND CONNECTORS. SINCE PURCHASE OF 05 MALIBU I HAVE HAD BREAKING VIBRATION AND VIBRATION IN TURNS TO THE RIGHT. HAVE HAD 2 SETS OF PADS AND ROTORS TURNED ONCE. I AM ON THE THIRD SET OF TIRES WITH ROTATIONS EVERY 6000 MILES BUT STILL GET UNEVEN WEAR. 43,000+ MILES AND THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BREAKING OR WHEELS. DRIVERS SIDE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT AND TURN SIGNAL HAS BLOWN 3 TIMES. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE VEHICLE IS NOT EQUIPPED WITH CHILD SAFETY LOCKS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED WITHOUT THE CHILD SAFETY LOCKS. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED HER A VOUCHER TOWARDS THE PURCHASE OF ANOTHER VEHICLE SINCE THAT WAS NOT DISCLOSED AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. THERE ARE NO FAILURES AT THIS TIME. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AT 5 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A THUMPING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE STEERING GEAR FAILED AND MADE THE REPLACEMENT. THREE MONTHS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THREE MONTHS LATER, THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND STATED THAT THEY TIGHTENED IT UP, BUT DID NOT STATE WHAT THEY TIGHTENED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE THUMPING SOUND CONTINUED TO OCCUR AND WAS LOUDER THAN BEFORE. AS OF OCTOBER 29, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000. THERE WAS A NOISE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS GOING INTO 2ND GEAR. U[DATED 11/21/07. *JB
I OWN A 2005 MALIBU MAXX AND AFTER ONE YEAR OLD IT BEGAN MAKING CLUNKING NOISES IN THE FRONT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY HAD TO REPLACE A PART OF THE STEERING SHAFT. THEY DID WHAT THEY DID AND THE NOISE WAS GONE. THEY ALSO REPLACED STRUTS. A FEW MONTHS LATER IT DID IT AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY REPLACED TIE ROD ENDS. BY THIS TIME MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THEN 2 MONTHS LATER IT DID IT AGAIN! THEY LUBED SOMETHING AND NOW IT HAS BEEN 8 MONTHS AND IT HAS NOT RETURNED YET. NOW MY ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND I KEEP GETTING A MESSAGE TO CHECK MY GAS CAP. I CHECK IT AND NOTHING IS WRONG. *TR
LOOSE/CLUNKY STEERING. THE CLUNKY SOUND AND FEEL CAN BE HEARD/FELT WHENEVER THE STEERING WHEEL IS MOVED. THERE IS ALSO SOME SPACE BETWEEN WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED AND WHEN THE WHEELS ACTUALLY TURN. FEELS UNSAFE TO ME. I'M VERY EASY ON THE TURNS, IT SCARES ME THAT SOMETHING IS GOING TO BREAK WHEN I TURN. DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S THE CASE I'M NOT A MECHANIC, BUT IT FEELS AND SOUNDS AWFUL. IT STARTED MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CARE. I PURCHASED IT APRIL 2006, BASICALLY A NEW CAR, BUT AFTER A FEW MONTHS THE PROBLEM STARTED. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY FIXED IT, BUT IT STARTED UP AGAIN AFTER A FEW MONTHS. I TOOK IT IN AGAIN TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THEY WERE INSTALLING A NEW IMPROVED STEERING GEAR OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. IT LASTED A LITTLE LONGER THIS TIME, BUT THE PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL REPAIR. THE WARRANTY IS OVER SO I'M NOT TAKING IT IN AGAIN. IT ISN'T WORTH THE EXPENSE - A TEMPORARY FIX IS NOT THE SOLUTION. THIS WILL PROBABLY BE MY LAST CHEVY. IT'S DISAPPOINTING. MY CARS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN AT LEAST 6 YEARS OLD WHEN PURCHASED. THIS WAS MY NEWEST CAR PURCHASED. IT WAS EXCITING, BUT THEN ENDED UP BEING SO DISAPPOINTING. THE STEERING HAS A CLUNKING IN IT WHEN U TERN. THEY FIXED IT 3 TIMES AND IT KEEPS COMING BACK EVERY TIME. THEY SAID ITS IN THE GEARS AND OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE STEERING. MALIBU MAXX WITH 24,000 MILES I STARTED HEARING A POPPING OR CLUNKING NOISE WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE GEARS IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND SAID THEY FIXED. A WEEK LATER THE SAME NOISE WAS BACK. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY THEN SAID THAT THEY HAD TO ORDER A NEW RACK FOR THE STEERING. THE RACK WAS REPLACED A FEW DAYS LATER. THESE REPAIRS (ALONG WITH A LONG LIST OF OTHER REPAIRS INCLUDING REPLACING THE GAS TAKE) WERE COMPLETED ON 7/18/2006. NOW DECEMBER 3RD 2006 I AM HEARING THE SAME NOISE AND WILL HAVE TO TAKE THE CAR BACK THIS WEEK. I DRIVE THIS CAR 60 MILES EVERYDAY AND AM VERY CONCERNED WITH THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE. *JB
FRONT SUSPENSION IS CLUNKY AS IF THERE ARE LOOSE-FITTED PARTS. FRONT BRAKES PULSATE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS CAUSING STEERING DIFFICULTY IN CORNERS. *JB
WHILE DRIVING IN INCLEMENT WEATHER, I LOST CONTROL OF MY COMPANY-FURNISHED 2005 CHEVY MALIBU AND CRASHED HEAD-ON INTO A TREE AT 55 MPH. THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND I WAS HOSPITALIZED WITH EXTENSIVE HEAD INJURY (TRAUMA, CRANIAL BLEEDING, ETC...) AND A BROKEN CLAVICAL. I CONTINUE TO SUFFER FROM THESE INJURIES WITH NO NEUROLOGICAL RELIEF IN SIGHT. MY EMPLOYER'S AUTO INSURANCE COMPANY INVESTIGATED THE EQUIPMENT SIDE OF THE ACCIDENT AND DETERMINED THAT THE AIRBAG DIDN'T DEPLOY BY DESIGN (SOMETHING ABOUT A SENSOR BAR NOT BEING IMPACTED - I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT THEY SAID). HECK, I CAN'T REMEMBER MUCH THESE DAYS IT SEEMS. NOTHING WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE AS THE FRONT END OF THE CAR WAS DEMOLISHED AND THE VEHICLE WRITTEN OFF AS A TOTAL LOSS. SEEMS TO ME THAT IF THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY BY DESIGN THEN THERE'S A DESIGN DEFECT THAT GM NEEDS TO CORRECT. *NM UPDATED 03/23/09. *JB

ON A SEPARATE OCCASION THERE WAS A LOSS OF THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WITH A CHIME TONE, FOLLOWED BY THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATION. THE FAILURE OCCURRENCE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ON THREE DIFFERENT TIMES FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DETECT A PROBLEM. RECENTLY, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER OFFERING AN ADDITIONAL PROTECTION FOR THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. THE MANUFACTURER REQUIRED THAT THE MILEAGE NOT TO EXCEED 100,000 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE OF A FREE REMEDY. THE CONTACT STATED HER VEHICLE EXCEEDED THE MILEAGE REQUIREMENT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2005 MALIBU MAXX, STARTER ASSEMBLY: SOMETIMES DIFFICULT TO START, ESPECIALLY AFTER RUNNING THE AIR CONDITIONER.PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO, OCCURRED SINCE THEN ABOUT 40 TO 50 TIMES. I RETIRED 18 MONTHS AGO AND DO NOT DRIVE AS MUCH NOW THAN I DI WHILE WORKING. VEHICLE PURCHASED DEC 31, 2004 AND IT IS NOW JULY AND GUESS WHAT? THE 2005 MALIBU CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING PLUS 1 DAYTIME DRIVING LIGHT!!! TOO EARLY FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL TO QUIT WORKING, NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM IN ANY VEHICLE I HAVE HAD AND EVERYONE SAID SAME THING! THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL OF ALL MALIBU 2005'S WITH CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEMS BECAUSE OF SPEED SENSOR OR SOME ELECTRICIAL PROBLEM IN THE CAR THAT GM SHOULD BE THE RESPONSIBLITY OF PAYING FOR NOT CUSTOMERS BECAUSE EARLIER I HAD TO TAKE CAR IN FOR PROBLEMS WITH THE DOORS NOT UNLOCKING AND UNLOCKING BECAUSE OF THE REMOTE NOT WORKING AND EVEN A NEW BATTERY DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE HEADLIGHTS WERE MANUALLY SWITCHED ON AND THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER. THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME THIS SAME PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED. ON THE FIRST AND SECOND OCCASIONS THE ELECTRICAL COMPUTER SYSTEM WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN ALERTED.
I WAS HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE BRAKES ON MY CAR. IT IS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. I TOOK THE CAR TO MIDAS AND HAD THE FRONT BRAKES REPLACED IN APRIL. I DIDN'T DRIVE THE CAR FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER THAT. WHEN I GOT BACK INTO TOWN I DROVE AS USUAL. IN THE MIDDLE OF JUNE WHEN I WOULD STEP HARD ON THE BRAKES THE BRAKE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THE WARNING BELL WOULD GO OFF. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO MIDAS TO HAVE IT CHECKED ON JUNE 23RD. THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LESS THAN HALF FULL. THE MECHANIC CHECKED THE BRAKES. WHEN HE LIFTED THE CAR UP YOU COULD SEE WHERE THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING. HE SAID THE CALIPER ON THE RIGHT BRAKE HAD BLOWN THE SEAL. HE REPLACED THE CALIPER. HE HAD TO GET IT FROM CALIFORNIA. HE SAID THE CALIPER SHOULDN'T HAVE BLOWN BECAUSE THE CAR WAS ONLY OVER A YEAR OLD. *JB
I PURCHASED THE 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU CLASSIC FROM A NEARBY TOWN DEALERSHIP AND WAS PLEASED UNTIL ABOUT 1 MONTH LATER WHEN I KEPT HEARING A LOUD SCREECHING SOUNDS COMING FROM THE FRONT END. THINKING IT WAS THE BRAKES GOING BAD, I HAD A FRIEND WHO WORKED ON CARS, CHECK IT OUT AND HE FOUND THE BRAKE CALIPER HAD GONE BAD. THE CAR HAD ONLY 32,000 MILES ON IT, AND IT WAS FAIRLY NEW HE COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS NEW CAR WOULD HAVE A CALIPER GOING BAD THAT FAST. IT WAS PRIOR OWNED AS A COMPANY PROGRAM CAR.
