I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE GM STATING THAT THERE WAS A RECALL CONCERNING THE FUEL SYSTEM IE FUEL PUMP ON MY 2006 CHEVY MALIBU. THIS RECALL CAUTIONED THAT INTERMITTENT STALLING MAY CREATE A HAZARDOUS CONDITION THAT COULD POSSIBLY RESULT IN VEHICLE. AS A RESULT I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THIS CONDITION CORRECTED ON THE DATE OF THE APPOINTMENT I ARRIVED WITH THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION AND WAS TURNED AWAY. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THAT THIS WAS A LIMITED RECALL AND THE RECALL FOR REPAIR HAD EXPIRED. I WAS ADVISED OF THIS RECALL BY MY REGULAR MECHANIC WHILE IN FOR UNRELATED MAINTENANCE. IT WAS THEN THAT HE INSTRUCTED ME TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH GM TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM WITH NOT CHARGE TO ME. BEFORE I HAD KNOWLEDGE OF THIS RECALL, MY DAUGHTER WAS INVOLVED WITH A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT THAT DIRECTLY RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM IE FUEL SYSTEM. THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED ON THIS VEHICLE, AS A RESULT ANOTHER VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH MINE CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE TO BOTH VEHICLES AND POTENTIAL INJURY TO THE 2 OCCUPANTS OF MY VEHICLE. IF YOU NEED FURTHER INFORMATION CONCERNING THE ACCIDENT I WILL HAVE TO GET EITHER A COPY OF THE POLICE REPORT AND INSURANCE CLAIM INFORMATION. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS NECESSARY. THANK YOU *TR
WHEN I PUT GAS IN MY 2006 CHEVY MALIBU THE GAS GAUGE IS SAYING FULL THAN I DRIVE IT SAYS EMPTY. I DON'T KNOW WHEN I NEED GAS.. AS I DRIVE AROUND THE GAUGE GOES WHERE EVER. IS THERE A RECALL ON THIS SENSOR ISSUE BECAUSE I KNOW 4 OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE MALIBU WITH SAME ISSUE. *TR
I WAS TAKING MY GRANDDAUGHTER TO SCHOOL AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AS I WAS PULLING IN TO THE SCHOOL. I TURN OFF THE CAR TO LOCATE THE POWER STEERING PUMP BUT COULD NOT LOCATE IT.WHEN I STARTED THE CAR IT WAS FINE SO WHEN I GOT HOME I FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM AND GM IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE FOR SOMEBODY DOES SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I BELIEVE GM WAS ONE OF THE COMPANIES THAT WAS HELP BY THE GOVERNMENT WITH TAX PAYERS MONEY THE SAME ONES THAT ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM,PLEASE YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BIG PROBLEM THAT GM IS IGNORING BEFORE IS TO LATE FOR SOME BODY OR FAMILY. POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY FAILS ON VEHICLE. RESETS AFTER TURNING CAR OFF. *TR
APPROX A FEW MONTHS BACK I FILLED UP MY GAS TANK, AS I STARTED DOWN THE ROAD MY GAS GAUGE WENT FROM FULL TO EMPTY AND MY FUEL LIGHT CAME ON AND SO DID MY ENGINE CHECK LIGHT. IT DID IT SEVERAL TIMES THROUGHOUT THE DAY. BY THE NEXT DAY IT WAS FINE AND HAS BEEN FINE UP UNTIL ABOUT A WEEK AGO. THE GAS GAUGE IS ERRATIC AND THE ENGINE LINE COMES ON. IN 2007 WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR I ALSO HAD ISSUES WITH IT STARTING UP AND WHEN I WOULD SHUT IT DOWN IT WOULD CONTINUOUSLY STAY CRUNKED. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND BASICALLY THEY GAVE ME A DOCUMENT ID#2001730 REPORT THAT IT WAS A NORMAL CONDITION. I STILL CONTINUE TO HAVE ISSUES WITH MY CAR STARTING. I STARTED TO DO RESEARCH ON MY CAR AND SEE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE SAME ISSUES. I DID TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAY THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR SHORTED OUT AND I NEED TO REPLACE FUEL PUMP. I SEE THERE IS A RECALL ON FUEL PUMPS BUT APPARENTLY NOT FOR MY VEHICLE IN PARTICULAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD LOOSE POWER AND WOULD STALL WITHOUT WARNING. A LOCAL MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
MY PROBLEM STARTED AROUND THE END OF FEBRUARY AND THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORST. I HAVE A NOISES THAT COMES FROM MY STEERING WHEEL, DRIVING ANY SPEED, AND MAKING COMPLETE TURNS AT ANYTIME IT WILL JUST GO OUT. SOME TIMES IT STARTS WHEN I GO OUT TO START MY CAR UP AND THE MESSAGE BORAD SAYS CHECK POWER STEERING, WHICH MAKING IT VERY HARD TO MAKE TURNS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE KNOW ABOUT RECALL, BUT SAID I HAVE TO WAIT FOR A NOTICE BECAUSE IT'S NOT ALL 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU'S.
I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING AND FROM WHAT I HAVE HEARD IS ALOT OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEMS. MY STEERING IS REAL STIFF WHERE IT NEEDS TWO HANDS TO TURN THE WHEEL AND A GOOD STRONG GRIP. I THINK THIS IS UNSAFE AND SHOULD BE FIXED THROUGH GM BEFORE THIS FAILS ON OTHERS AND CAUSE A ACCIDENT. I WAS GETTING READY TO MAKE A LEFT TURN ONTO A SIDE ROAD AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THERE WAS NO HINT OF FAILURE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. A POWER STEERING NOTICE APPEARED ON THE DASH AFTER THE FAILURE, NO WARNING RING TONES OR SOUND GIVEN. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED FROM A CHEVROLET DEALER WHEN IT HAD APPX. 36,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED BY CHEVROLET OR THE DEALER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, WHICH SEEMS TO BE RAMPANT. I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET AND IT APPEARS THAT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH VARIOUS YEAR CHEVROLET MODELS. THIS PROBLEM CAN CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH. GM SHOULD BE FORCED TO ISSUE RECALLS FOR ALL MODELS AFFECTED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CONSUMER. THAT IS THE ONLY FAIR AND PROPER SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. *TR
THE FUEL SENSOR IS VERY ERRATIC. AS SOON AS THE CAR IS FILLED UP WITH GAS, THE FUEL SENSOR WILL GO FROM F TO E IN THE MATTER OF SECONDS. WHEN THIS PROBLEM FIRST BEGAN, THE GAUGE WOULD GO FROM FULL TO EMPTY UNTIL I DROVE JUST ENOUGH THAT THE CAR'S FUEL LEVEL WAS NOT COMPLETELY FULL. AT THIS POINT, THE SENSOR WOULD WORK AND I WAS ABLE TO RELY ON THE FUEL GAUGE ON THE DASHBOARD. AFTER SOME TIME, HOWEVER, THE SENSOR STOPPED WORKING ALTOGETHER. NOW THE SENSOR IS CONSTANTLY MOVING FROM FULL TO EMPTY FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON AND I NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE TANK. I HAVE TO KEEP TRACK WITH THE TRIP MONITOR. AUTO REPAIR SHOPS HAVE QUOTED THIS REPAIR AT AROUND $600 STATING THAT THE CAR NEEDS A NEW FUEL ASSEMBLY KIT. THIS ISSUE MUST BE FIXED IN ORDER TO PASS EMISSIONS TESTING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH AND HEARD A CHIME INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHEN SUDDENLY, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. UPON RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED AS NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED THE CONTACT NOTICED THE EXTERIOR BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CONTACT LATER NOTICED THE TAIL LIGHTS COMPLETELY STOPPED FUNCTIONING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,900.
SOON AFTER I PURCHASED THIS CAR I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. IN MANY OCCASIONS WHEN I START THE ENGINE THE POWER STEERING DOES NOT WORK. I CANNOT MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. I TURN THE ENGINE OFF, WAIT A FEW SECONDS AND START THE ENGINE AGAIN, AND THE POWER STEERING WORKS. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEMS AT LEAST 15 OR 20 TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN JANUARY 9, 2012. IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED WITH THE CAR MOVING. ALSO WHEN I MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER THE POWER STEERING ALERT LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF AND I HEAR A CLUNK NOISE THAT I CAN FEEL IN THE STEERING WHEEL. IT IS LIKE IF SOMETHING IS LOOSE IN THE STEERING SYSTEM. I CHECKED THE RACK AND PINION IN SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND FOUND IT HAD THE SCREWS THAT HOLD IT TO THE FRAME LOOSE. I TIGHTENED THEM BUT THE NOISE DOES NOT GO AWAY. I DRIVE THIS CAR WITH CAUTION AND FEAR BECAUSE OF THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM AND THE NOISE IN THE STEERING SYSTEM. THIS MONTH (APRIL 2014) I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT. SOMETIMES IT MARKS FULL AND OTHERS EMPTY WITH GAS IN THE TANK. AT THE SAME TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF. *TR
I HAVE BEEN REPETITIVELY TURNED AWAY BY VARIOUS GM DEALERSHIPS TO ADDRESS SERIOUS ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE & POTENTIAL RECALLS. MY ISSUES INCLUDE - STEERING MALFUNCTIONS MAKING THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL, FAULTY FUEL PUMP SENDING UNIT CAUSING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE & VEHICLE TO STALL, UNCONTROLLABLE VIBRATIONS WHEN BREAKING AT HIGH SPEEDS NEARLY CAUSING ME TO WRECK, POPPING SOUNDS IN THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM, AND FINALLY UNEXPLAINED ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS SUCH AS RADIO SWITCHING CHANNELS ON ITS OWN, FAILURE OF KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM, FAILURE OF REMOTE ENTRY SYSTEM, BUZZING OF LIGHTS WHEN DIMMING, AND FLICKERING OF HEADLIGHTS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY DEALERSHIPS THAT BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS A "FLEET CAR" THAT IT DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR ANY RECALLS. PROBLEMS BEGAN WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. STEERING WIRING HARNESS WAS REPLACED WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. AT AROUND 65,000 MILES, SYSTEMS BEGAN TO FAIL DESPITE MY REGULAR CARE OF THE VEHICLE WHICH I HAVE DOCUMENTED. AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED, I WAS ROUTINELY TURNED DOWN FOR RECALL INSPECTIONS. A RECENT EMISSIONS INSPECTION CAUSED CONCERN BY THE MECHANIC OVER THE STEERING OF THE VEHICLE AND I WAS ENCOURAGED TO ADDRESS THESE PROBLEMS AGAIN. I CANNOT AFFORD A NEW CAR. *TR

I HAVE A 06 CHEVY MAILBU MY BRAKE LIGHTS COMES ON WHEN I AM DRIVING SO IT LOOKS LIKE I AM RIDING MY BRAKES I HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER BECASE OF THIS WHEN I GOOGLED IT THERE WAS A BUNCH OF PEOPLE WITH 2006 MAILBUS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM I HAVE HAD THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH REPLACED ABOUT 5 TIMES AND THAT IS NOT THE PROBLEM NO ONE CAN SEEM TO FIND THE PROBLEM NOT EVEN THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS BECAUSE IT IS DANGERIOUS TO DRIVE WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON WHEN YOU PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO OUT FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS THEN COME RIGHT BACK ON. *TR
GOT IN MY CAR THIS MORNING TO GO TO WORK AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY POWER STEERING DOESNT WORK AND POWER STEERING COMES ON UP ON MY DISPLAY. BEEN READING ONLINE AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A HIGH NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS WITH THIS SAME EXACT PROBLEM AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECALLS YET. BRAKES LIGHT STAY ON ALL TIME, WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. CHEVY DELEAR CANNOT FIX. *TT
THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHEN MY WIFE WAS ON HER WAY HOME AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO TURN DOWN OUR STREET. THE BULLETIN SAYS THAT WHEN THIS POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILS, THE VEHICLE CAN STILL BE SAFELY TURNED, BUT I TAKE EXCEPTION TO THAT. MY WIFE IS OF AVERAGE STRENGTH AND IF SOMEONE HAD BEEN WALKING ON OUR STREET SHE COULDN'T HAVE STEERED CLEAR OF THEM OR IF A CAR WAS PARKED WHEN SHE TURNED THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT.I HAD THE CAR IN THE GM DEALERSHIP SERVICE AT 100,000 MILES FOR FRONT END ISSUES AND HAD OVER $1000.00 OF REPAIRS INCLUDING NEW FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS. I FEEL THAT WHENEVER A VEHICLE COMES IN THAT HAS A SPECIAL COVERAGE LISTED THAT IS AS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AS THIS, THE SYSTEM SHOULD BE REPLACED. WHEN IT FAILED COMPLETELY IT HAD 106,000 MILES AND WE ARE TOLD BY GM THAT WE ARE OUT OF LUCK FOR ANY HELP. THIS PROBLEM IS LIKE RUSSIAN ROULETTE AND EVEN THOUGH IT RESETS ITSELF WHEN TURNED OFF AND BACK ON, IT MAY GO OUT AGAIN IN A WEEK, A MONTH OR AN HOUR AND CANNOT BE DRIVEN WITH CONFIDENCE. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH GM THAT THEY WON'T AT LEAST COVER SOME OF THIS REPAIR. THIS IS NOT THE TYPE OF PROBLEM THAT GOES OUT GRADUALLY AS TO ALERT YOU OF AN ISSUE, BUT RATHER ALL AT ONCE AND TAKES YOU TOTALLY BY SURPRISE. I'M SURE ACCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT AND IS MUCH MORE SERIOUS THAN GM MAKES IT OUT TO BE. THEY SHOULD EITHER FIX THE PROBLEM PARTS OR AT LEAST COVER A PART WITH PROVEN DEFECTS EVEN IF IT IS JUST PAST THEIR MILEAGE. *TR
ON MAY 20, 2014 I FILED A COMPLAINT REGARDING THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING, THE FUEL LEVEL INDICATOR AND THE CLUNK NOISE IN THE STEERING SYSTEM ON MY CAR. I CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS BY E MAIL AND THEY GAVE ME A TELEPHONE NUMBER TO CALL. TODAY, MAY 27, 2014 I CALLED GENERAL MOTORS REGARDING THEIR RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM. THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THEY GAVE ME THE TELEPHONE NUMBER OF A DEALER IN PUERTO RICO WHERE I HAVE TO TAKE THE CAR FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. GM WILL NOT COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIRS. WHY DO WE HAVE TO PAY FOR THE BAD JOB THE CAR MANUFACTURERS DO WHEN THEY MAKE THEIR CARS? THERE MUST BE A WAY IN WHICH CONSUMERS GET COMPENSATED BY THESE COMPANIES FOR THE EXPENSES THEY IMPOSE ON US WITH THEIR DEFECTIVE VEHICLES. FOR ME THIS MAY BE THE LAST CHEVROLET I WILL BUY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY OFF AND RESTARTING, THE POWER STEERING REGAINED NORMAL FUNCTIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 135,277 .
ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE OPERATING VEHICLE. *KB

THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT THAT THE VEHICLE COULD BE DRIVEN WITHOUT POWER STEERING CAPABILITIES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED, THE VEHICLE WOULD PULL STRONGLY TO THE LEFT AND IT WOULD BECOME VERY HARD TO KEEP THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 102,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE EXITING A PARKING LOT, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED AN ABNORMALLY LOUD NOISE AS THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST WAS FAILING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED, BUT THE CLOCK AND RADIO HAD TO BE RESET WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,700. UPDATED 03/28/12 *BF UPDATED 04/09/12
I BOUGHT CAR FROM LOCAL DEALER AND ON MY WAY HOME I HEARD THE DING AND THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR CAME ON AND IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 85N. LUCKILY MY EXIT WAS THE NEXT ONE. CALLED GM DEALER, THEY SAID THAT IT WAS A WARRANTY ISSUE NOT A RECALL. AFTER READING ABOUT THIS VEHICLE MANY PEOPLE BESIDES ME HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THIS POWER STEERING. I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY OUT $600 EACH TIME IT GOES BAD DUE TO ISSUES WHEN MANUFACTURED. *TT
UPON SLIGHT ACCELERATION (I.E. MERGING FROM EXIT RAMPS OR PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC) THE POWER STEERING FAILS. WARNING SOUND CHIMES. STEERING BECOMES UNASSISTED WITHOUT POWER FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. THIS HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALER RE: RECALLS/FIX AND WAS INFORMED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THEM A SERVICE FEE TO LOOK AT THE CAR FOR THEM TO TRY TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. POWER STEERING OFTEN STOPS WORKING AT LOW SPEED. *TR
I UNDERSTAND THAT MY CAR HAS NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECENT RECALL; HOWEVER, MY CAR PRESENTS THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS AS THOSE CARS INVOLVED WITH THE RECALL. DUE TO THIS, MY CAR REMAINS PARKED IN MY GARAGE FOR OVER ONE YEAR. I DRIVE IT, ON AVERAGE, ONCE PER MONTH, IF THAT; BECAUSE I FEAR THAT I MAY BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND/OR OBTAIN A SERIOUS, LIFE THREATENING INJURY. FOR THE PAST NEARLY TWO YEARS, MY CAR RANDOMLY SHUTS DOWN. I LOSE COMPLETE POWER OVER MY STEERING. THE STEERING LOCKS UP, AND MY WARNING CHIME SOUNDS. EVERYTHING SHUTS DOWN: RADIO, GAUGES, ETC. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES ON THE FREEWAY, AT HIGH SPEEDS, MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. I HAVE ALMOST GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE ENDED UP ON STREET CURBS AND HIGHWAY MEDIANS. UNFORTUNATELY, THE DEALERSHIP I TOOK IT TO BE FIXED (LAFONTAINE BUICK GMC IN ANN ARBOR, MI) STATES THAT THE ISSUE IS DUE TO THE STEERING MOTOR, WHICH IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE CURRENT RECALL. TO FIX THIS, IT WOULD COST NEARLY $800. I HAVE CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO ASSIST IN THIS ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS FOR YEARS TO MY DEALERSHIP AND HAVEN'T RECEIVED THE PROPER HELP TO GET THESE PROBLEMS TAKEN CARE OF. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS DEALING WITH SUDDEN LOSS OF ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. MY CAR STEERING WHEEL WILL LOCK UP AS SOON AS I TURN THE CAR ON OR EVEN IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS A HAZARD AND LIFE THREATENING. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY CAR DID NOT HAVE A POWER STEERING PROBLEM. BUT MY CAR WAS NOTIFYING ME ON THE SCREEN THAT IT WAS MY POWER STEERING AND THE WHEEL LOCKS UP AS WELL AS CONTINUES TO SHAKE. IT IS STILL CURRENTLY HAPPENING AND GETTING WORSE. MY STEERING SHAFT MAKES A LOT OF NOISE AND I CAN FEEL IT IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN I DRIVE. MY BREAK LIGHTS AS WELL AS HEAD LIGHT BULBS ARE ALWAYS GOING OUT AND KEEP HAVING TO BUY NEW ONES. I KNOW THEY WILL G OUT SOMETIMES, BUT HOW OFTEN MINES GOES OUT IS NOT NORMAL. THE AIRBAG ICON ON MY DASHBOARD AS WELL AS THE READING ON MY SCREEN SHOWS THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY AIRBAG. I'M AFRAID THAT ONE DAY IT WILL JUST EXPLODE IN MY FACE. I ALSO HAVE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH MY WINDOWS AND LIGHTS IN MY CAR. THE WINDOWS GET STUCK AND ONLY ONE LIGHT IN MY CAR WORKS (ONE OF THE OVERHEAD LIGHTS). I HAD MY TRANSMISSION CHECKED OUT AND THEY INFORMED ME THERE WAS NO PROBLEM (BUT THEY TOLD ME THAT ABOUT ME POWER STEERING) AND I END UP PAYING TO GET MY SOLENOIDS REPLACED, BUT I WAS NOT REIMBURSED WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN FOR THE TRANSMISSION RECALL. LIKE I'VE SAID, I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET ASSISTANCE FROM THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP FOR YEARS WITH THESE PROBLEMS, BUT THEY KEEP TELLING ME I DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS. I REALLY FEEL MY LIFE IS IN DANGER WITH ALL THE PROBLEMS I AM HAVING WITH THIS CAR AND I DO NOT FEEL I AM GETTING THE NECESSARY HELP I NEED. WHEN PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, POWER STEERING ILLUMINATED ACROSS THE SCREEN AND THEN STEERING WAS LOST. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON 5 TIMES BUT THE SAME MESSAGE KEPT REAPPEARING WITH RETURNED INABILITY TO STEER. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH WHEN THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR CAME ON WITH FOUR BELL TONES - I LOST THE ABILITY TO EASILY STEER THE CAR. I HAD TO STRUGGLE TO GET THE CAR STEERED OFF THE FREEWAY. I TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN ON AND POWER STEERING RESUMED. I GOT BACK ON THE FREEWAY AND WITHIN 15 MINUTES THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN AND I HAD TO STRUGGLE JUST TO STEER. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS IF THE POWER STEERING TOTALLY LOCKS UP IT CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MODULE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT OF A VOLUNTARY RECALL FOR THE SAME FAILURE WITH THE POWER STEERING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MODULE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,800. I HAVE BEEN READING OVER SOME OF THE 30 PAGES OF STEERING COMPLAINTS FOR THE 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. I FOUND OUT THAT I AM NOT ALONE WITH THIS CAR PROBLEM. I JUST BOUGHT MY CAR IN AUGUST 2011 - IT WAS A ONE OWNER WITH 31,000 MILES IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. I THOUGHT I DID MY HOMEWORK WHEN BUYING BUT WAS NOT AWARE OF THE STEERING PROBLEMS THAT EXISTED. THERE WAS NO RECALL LISTED . I WOULD NEVER HAVE BOUGHT THIS CAR KNOWING WHAT I KNOW NOW AND EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM FIRST HAND. I HEARD THE TWO DINGS THEN THE WORDS "POWER STEERING" APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I IMMEDIATELY HAD NO POWER STEERING AND WAS DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THE CAR WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER AND I WAS LUCKY TO MAKE IT HOME. SINCE THEN, I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS TWO OTHER TIMES. I AM SCARED TO DEATH TO DRIVE THIS CAR. I WAS JUST BACKING UP AT CHURCH AND THE DINGING NOISE CAME ON LIKE WHEN YOUR CAR DOOR IS OPEN. I LOOK AT THE INFORMATION ON THE SCREEN AND IT SAYS POWER STEERING. IT'S AS IF I HAD NO PROBLEM AT ALL. I WENT AROUND THE BLOCK AND DIDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM, BUT WHAT IF I'M ON THE HIGHWAY AND IT DOES IT AGAIN. I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH MY FRONT END. LEFT FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT AND BOTH STABILIZER END LINKS LOOSE, REPLACED CONTROL ARM, AXLE FALLING OFF, SHAFT, YOU NAME IT. AND I DON'T ABUSE MY CAR. THE DEALER RECALIBRATED THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

ME AND MY DAUGHTER WERE DRIVING TO THE STORE, WE HAD PASSED AN INTERSECTION IT WAS A GREEN LIGHT AND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON HER BRAKES, I RESPONDED WITH SLAMMING ON MY BRAKES AS WELL, HOWEVER I COULD NOT AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME HEAD ON , WHO THEN HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF THEM. TURNED STEERING WHEEL LEFT TO EXIT A FUELING PUMP AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THE PANEL DISPLAY INDICATED "POWER STEERING" AND AN INDICATOR ON THE DASH HAD A AMBER COLOR ICON WITH A WRENCH. HAD TO USE A LOT OF FORCE TO TURN VEHICLE TO A SAFE PLACE AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. GOT OUT AND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD BUT COULD NOT DISCERN ANY OBVIOUS PROBLEM. TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND THE PROBLEM DID NOT REAPPEAR AS DRIVING HOME APPROX. 2 MILES FROM SERVICE STATION. CONCERNED BECAUSE OF THE COMMENTS SEEN ON THE INTERNET REGARDING OWNERS HAVING SIMILAR EXPERIENCES WITH THESE VEHICLES. FORTUNATELY, MY SPEED WAS MINIMAL. IT WOULD BE VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE IF THIS HAPPENED AT HIGH SPEED ON A HIGHWAY. GM NEEDS TO RECALL. *TR
THE VEHICLE UNLOCKS THE DOORS AUTOMATICALLY BY ITSELF WITHOUT THE POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCHES OR UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE REMOTE KEY FOB BEING ACTIVATED. THE PROBLEM OCCURS DURING DRIVING THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TURNED OFF. IN ADDITION, THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN THE AUXILLARY POWER IS ON (AFTER THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND THERE IS POWER TO THE WINDOWS AND RADIO - BEFORE THE DOORS ARE OPENED) AS WELL AS AFTER THE AUXILLARY POWER IS TURNED OFF (AFTER THE DOORS HAVE BEEN OPENED AND POWER TO THE RADIO AND WINDOWS HAS BEEN TURNED OFF). THE VEHICLE IS FOUND WITH ITS DOORS UNLOCKED WHEN THE DRIVER RETURNS TO THE VEHICLE (DRIVER LOCKED THE DOORS AND CONFIRMED THEY WERE LOCKED WHEN LEAVING THE VEHICLE PARKED). THE VEHICLE ALSO DISABLES THE SECURITY SYSTEM WHEN IT UNLOCKS THE DOORS CAUSING ANYONE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE ALARM OR SECURITY SYSTEM ACTIVATING. THIS CREATES A SECURITY AND SAFETY CONCERN FOR THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS. THE VEHICLE DOORS MAY NOT STAY LOCKED WHEN LEAVING THE VEHICLE WHICH CREATES A SECURITY CONCERN. IN ADDITION, THE DOORS MAY UNLOCK WHEN DRIVING CAUSING SAFETY CONCERNS.*TR

THE CONTACT DROVE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PARKED THE VEHICLE IN A SAFE LOCATION. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. POWER STEERING FAILURE. HAD BEGAN TO DRIVE OUT OF A PARKING LOT WHEN POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN STEERING WHEEL. CAR HAS ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING. I TRIED TO STEP ON BRAKE, SHIFT GEAR INTO PARK THEN BACK IN DRIVE BUT STILL COULD NOT GET STEERING WHEEL TO TURN. WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS IF HAD HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON A FREEWAY WITH MY KIDS. I HAVE FOUND A MULTIPLE SITES WITH THE SAME SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE 2006 CHEVY MALIBU FROM PEOPLE WHO HAD THIS HAPPENED TO THEM. THEY HAVE EVEN HAD MECHANICS TRY TO TROUBLESHOOT AND CHARGE THEM HORRENDOUS AMOUNTS FOR REPAIRS BUT CONTINUED HAVING ISSUES AFTER EITHER THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN WAS REPLACED, COILS AND HARNESS WERE REPLACED, OR OTHER PARTS THAT MECHANICS TRIED TROUBLESHOOTING. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM TO BE CORRECTED BEFORE IT DOES TAKE SOMEONE'S LIFE. *TR

MADE A TRANSPONDER KEY, PARTS PERSON AT THE GM DEALERSHIP JUST STARTED THE ENGINE WITH IT AND SAID IT WAS ALREADY PROGRAMMED.( HE JUST TESTED TO SEE IF THE KEY WILL START THE ENGINE.) WHEN GOT HOME WITH ORIGINAL KEY AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE I TRIED TO SECURE CAR WITH THE REMOTE AND IT DID NOT WORK. TRIED ORIGINAL KEY TO START CAR EVERYTHING WAS DEAD INCLUDING BATTERY. DISCONNECT AND RECONNECT BATTERY, NOW THE SECURITY LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON, CAR CAN'T START, THERE IS NOTHING ONLY THE LIGHTS ON DASH WITH OTHER ICONS. I DON'T KNOW IF THE CHIP KEY THAT WAS MADE CAUSE THE SYSTEM TO FAIL. I HATE TO HAVE TO TOW THE CAR CAUSE I KNOW THE DEALER WOULD CHARGE ME AN ARM AND A LEG. I HATE TO GET THE PARTS PERSON IN TROUBLE. MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY TODAY AND I WAS SO CLOSE INTO HITTING MY SISTERS CAR, I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH THAT I WAS ABLE TO STEER AS MUCH AS A COULD WENT A LITTLE BIT ONTO THE BUSHES . AFTER BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I STARTED DOWN THE ROAD AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN THE CAR OFF. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT SEEMED FINE. I DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE ANY CHANCES SO TURNED AROUND AND PULLED BACK INTO THE DRIVEWAY. I HAVE STARTED THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE STEERING IS STILL LOCKED UP. MY CAR HAS ONLY 48000 MILES ON IT AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL. I HAVE READ MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME SITUATION. *TR
