THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 20,000. *TR

FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS POWER STEERING FAILURE WITH LEFT TURNS. YESTERDAY COMPLETE FAILURE, FORTUNATELY IT LOCKED UP IN MY DRIVEWAY. STEERING WHEEL JAMMED UP WITH THE SLIGHTEST TURN. *TR
I HAVE A POWER STEERING PROBLEM WITH MY 2006 CHEVY MALIBU. I HAD GOTTEN A RECALL NOTICE AWHILE BACK AND AT THE TIME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. HOWEVER NOW I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING AND I DON'T EVEN SEE THIS RECALL ANYMORE ON YOUR WEBSITE. PLEASE CONFIRM. THE POWER STEERING ALL OF A SUDDEN HAS A "DING, DING, DING NOISE" WHEN I HAVE TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP ON THE HIGHWAY BACK ON. NOW SOMETIMES WHEN ON A RAMP TO THE HIGHWAY THE POWER STEERING SHUTS OFF COMPLETELY. *TR
POWER STEERING ISSUE. THE POWER STEERING IN CAR MADE NOISE WHEN UNDER WARRANTY. I BROUGHT IT IN AT 35,000 MILES. THE GM DEALER LUBED THE STEERING SHAFT. AT 90,000 MILES THEY TOLD ME THE STEERING SYSTEM WAS SHOT AND I NEEDED TO PAY OVER $1,000 FOR A NEW STEERING SYSTEM.... *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX SUPERSPORT. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 TO 50 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY LOOSE AND IT WAS DIFFICULT FOR HER TO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURNS SHE HEARD A POPPING NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED HER THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED HER TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 89,000.
STEERING WHEEL FAILURE CAUSED CAR ACCIDENT. WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A FREEWAY TUNNEL, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER CAUSING MY CAR TO HIT THE TUNNEL WALL. THE CAR HAD LESS THAN 40,000 MILES, YET THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR WENT ON. THE POWER STEERING RESET AND WENT BACK ON, AFTER THE CAR WAS RESTARTED. PLEASE INITIAL A DEFECT INVESTIGATION OR A SAFETY RECALL BEFORE THIS HAPPENS TO SOMEONE ELSE. *TR
LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES TODAY. *TR
FAULTY GAS GAUGE ON MY GM CHEVROLET MALIBU. I RAN OUT OF GAS AND WAS STRANDED JUST AFTER THE LOW FUEL LIGHT WENT ON. I HAD NEVER RUN OUT OF GAS AND JUST PREVIOUSLY DURING MY DRIVE THE FUEL LEVEL READ BETWEEN 1/8 AND 1/4 FULL TANK. SO THE FUEL LEVEL READING INDICATED MORE FUEL AVAILABILITY THAN WAS ACTUALLY AVAILABLE IN THE TANK. I PROBABLY ONLY WENT 10 MILES AFTER THE LOW FUEL LIGHT WENT ON AND MY CAR HAS GOOD FUEL ECONOMY. I THINK THE READING WAS INACCURATE. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE INCIDENTS OF RANDOM FUEL LEVEL READING WHILE I WAS DRIVING, WITH THE LOW FUEL LIGHT AND BELL GOING OFF, THEN LATER RETURNING TO ANOTHER, NOT LOW FUEL LEVEL, AND THE LOW FUEL LIGHT GOING OFF AGAIN. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING. I FEEL LIKE I CANNOT TRUST THE GAUGE AND I RESET MY TRIP ODOMETER ON EVERY FILL-UP SO I CAN KEEP TRACK OF HOW MANY MILES I'VE DRIVEN. *TR
CHECK POWER STEERING MESSAGING APPEARED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. MESSAGING DISAPPEARED AFTER TURNING CAR OFF AND ON. MESSAGE REAPPEARED THREE MORE TIMES AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS IN NEXT TWO DAYS. BROUGHT CAR TO MECHANIC WHO RECALIBRATED STEERING COLUMN. MESSAGING REAPPEARED ON DRIVE HOME FROM SHOP WHILE PASSING OVER A SPEED BUMP. RETURNED CAR TO SHOP, WAS TOLD STEERING COLUMN AND MODULE NEEDED REPLACED. REPAIRS EXCEEDED $1000. MECHANIC MENTIONED THAT WHEN LOCAL PARTS DEALER KEEPS MANY OF THESE REPLACEMENT UNITS ON HAND, IT'S CLEARLY A KNOWN ISSUE THAT CHEVY NEEDS TO ADDRESS. VEHICLE HAS LOW MILEAGE AND MAJORITY OF THESE MILES WERE ACCRUED ON CITY STREETS, IMPLAUSIBLE THAT A PART OF THIS CALIBER WOULD REQUIRE REPLACEMENT AT THIS TIME BASED ON USE. MECHANIC TRIED CALLING CHEVY ON OWNER'S BEHALF AS PARTS WARRANTY EXTENDED TO 36,000 MILES. CHEVY UNWILLING TO GRANT ANY CONCESSIONS AS FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,847.

I WAS ACCELERATING ONTO THE FREEWAY GOING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH AND THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING FOR 3-4 SECONDS. THERE WAS A CHIME AS WELL. IF IT LASTED LONGER OR THERE WERE OTHER CARS AROUND SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN INJURED!!!! *TR
THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING IN MY 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU FAILED REPEATEDLY. IT WOULD WORK SOMETIMES WHEN THE CAR WAS RESTARTED. BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY CONCERN, I HAD IT REPAIRED AT A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. I FOUND THAT CHEVROLET WILL PAY TO REPAIR SOME 2006 MALIBUS WITH THE PROBLEM, BUT NOT OTHERS. I WAS TOLD MY CAR HAS THE WRONG "VIN-SERIES," SO CHEVROLET REFUSES TO COVER THE REPAIR. IT IS THE EXACT SAME DEFECT/PROBLEM FOUND IN OTHER MALIBUS OF THE SAME YEAR. I WOULD REQUEST THAT THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT PUSH CHEVROLET INTO A WIDER RECALL SO ALL MODELS WITH THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM ARE COVERED. LOSING POWER STEERING IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN, ESPECIALLY TO MY WIFE WHO WAS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO STEER THE CAR AT SLOW SPEEDS WHEN IT FAILED. IT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT IN A PARKING LOT. I FILED A CLAIM WITH CHEVROLET. IT DID NOT RESPOND IN 60 DAYS AS PROMISED. I CALLED TO CHECK THE STATUS OF MY CLAIM. CHEVROLET SAID IT WAS DENIED. IT REFUSED TO SEND ME A RESPONSE IN WRITING, WHICH IS WEIRD. IT MAY BE A SIGN OF A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM THAT IT DOES NOT WANT TO FIX WITHOUT PRESSURE FROM DOT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THE ODOMETER FAILED. WHILE DRIVING 39 MPH THE MILEAGE INCREASED FROM 76,000 TO 107,700. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THEY WOULD RUN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT THE CONTACT DOES NOT WANT TO PAY THE REPAIR COST OF $112. THE VEHICLE ALSO SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,700. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS ALSO A FUEL SYSTEM PROBLEM. UPDATED 06/14/11

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD MOVE FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. ALSO, WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT HEARD A BUZZING NOISE AS THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD VIOLENTLY JERK FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE NOR WAS THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
(APRIL 2011) LEAVING WORK ONE AFTERNOON, I BEGAN TO DRIVE OFF THE CAMPUS AND AS I BEGAN TO DRIVE THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO TIGHTEN AND AS SOON AS I TRIED TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND WOULD NOT TURN. THAT DAY I ENDED UP IN THE DITCH AND I'M THANKFUL THAT NO ONE WAS HURT. EVERY TIME I PROCEED TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN AND IT'S HOT OUTSIDE, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP CAUSING ME TO GRAB THE WHEEL AS HARD AS I CAN AND MERGE TO THE SHOULDER TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART SO THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMES DRIVABLE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY GAVE AN ESTIMATED COST OF $1500 PLUS DOLLARS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY AND JUST SUFFERED THROUGH THE PROBLEM. PULLING OVER AND RESTARTING THE CAR. WHEN THE WEATHER COOLED OFF IN SEPTEMBER OR SO THE CAR HAD NO PROBLEMS AND DROVE FINE. NOW ITS MARCH 2012 IN MISSISSIPPI AND EXTREMELY HOT AND HUMID AND NOW THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKING UP BASICALLY EVERY TIME I GET IN THE CAR. I CAN JUST BE DRIVING AND IT LOCK UP. I CANNOT GAMBLE WITH MY LIFE NOR MY CHILDREN AND I'M FEARFUL THAT THIS CAR IS GOING TO COST US OUR LIVES IF I CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT AROUND. HELP! *KB

WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED AN INACCURATE READING INDICATING A FULL CAPACITY LEVEL ALTHOUGH THE FUEL TANK WAS EMPTY. SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS A RESULT OF THE EMPTY FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS REFUELED AND RESUMED OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE FUEL TANK SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.

FUEL GAUGE FLUCTUATES BETWEEN FULL AND EMPTY, NEVER GIVING AN ACCURATE READING. THE FLUCTUATION OCCURS MORE RAPIDLY AFTER FILLING THE TANK. THIS HAS CAUSED ME TO RUN OUT OF GAS AND STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY. IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON. WHEN THE LIGHT IS RESET, IT IMMEDIATELY COMES BACK ON. IF THERE WERE A MAJOR PROBLEM THAT NEEDED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF TO AVOID POTENTIAL ENGINE DAMAGE OR PERSONAL INJURY, I WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO TELL FROM THIS LIGHT. *TR

I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK THIS MORNING WHEN THE INTERIOR BELL SOUNDED 4 TIMES AND THEN THE POWER STEERING QUIT. I WAS ON THE THRUWAY AND VERY CONCERNED ABOUT BEING ABLE TO EXIT. THE FORCE I NEEDED TO USE TO TURN MY VEHICLE WAS GREATER THAN ANY ELDERLY PERSON WOULD BE ABLE TO MANAGE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING WITH CHEVY. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE CHEVY WILL MAKE THIS RECALL? WHEN THE WRONGFUL DEATH LAWSUITS BECOME MORE EXPENSIVE THAN HAVING TO FIX THEIR OWN MISTAKE? *TR
THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WHICH IS CONNECTED TO THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED IN 2007 WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 30,000 MILES AND WAS UNDER WARRANTY. IT HAS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN AT 83,00 MILES. THIS IS DEFINITELY A GM DESIGN ISSUE. THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MODULE HAS BEEN REPLACED, THE RACK/PINION HAS BEEN REPLACED AND NEITHER PART SHOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED WHEN THE VEHICLE IS UNDER 80,000 MILES.. GM CUSTOMER SERVICE REFUSES TO ACCEPT THAT THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR OF A VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH THIS WILL BE THE SECOND REPLACEMENT OF THIS PART. HUNDREDS OF OWNERS OF THIS 2006 MALIBU MAXX HAVE THE EXACT SAME ISSUE THEREFORE IT CAN NOT BE THE DRIVER BUT IS DEFINITELY A ENGINEERING DESIGN ISSUE. GM NEEDS TO BE HONEST AND OWN UP TO THE FAILURES OF THEIR VEHICLE DESIGNS. THERE ARE LOSING LOYAL CUSTOMERS BECAUSE OF THEIR INABILITY TO PROVIDE A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. IT IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO PROVIDE THE CONSUMERS WITH SAFE VEHICLES. STEERING ISSUES ARE DEFINITELY A SERIOUS HAZARD. GM MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR VEHICLE FAILURES. THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND AT THE VERY LEAST GM SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIRS.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 TO 25 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD INTERMITTENTLY LOCK AND SHE WOULD BE UANBLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE FAILURES, THE CONTACT WOULD HEAR A WARNING BELL, INDICATING THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER, NOR REPAIRED. THE DEALER ALSO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THAT COMPONENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
MY 2006 MALIBU POWER STEERING KEEPS SPONTANEOUSLY GOING OUT. IT STARTED AROUND 75,000 MILES. IT IS CONSTANTLY PULLING THE WHEEL FROM ONE DIRECTION TO THE OTHER. IT'S AT A POINT WHERE THE VEHICLE IS UNCONTROLLABLE, ESPECIALLY AT HIGH SPEEDS. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT DOES COME ON, BUT ONLY SPORADICALLY - NOT ALL OF THE TIME. SO FAR, NO ACCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED, BUT I FEAR IT WILL LOCK UP IN ONE CERTAIN DIRECTION OR OVER CORRECTION FROM TRYING TO CONTROL IT WILL CAUSE A CRASH. NOTHING HAS BEEN FIXED OR REPLACED- THE CAR IS NOT BEING DRIVEN AT THIS TIME. *TR

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY ABOUT A MONTH OR TWO AGO POWER STEERING WENT OUT, WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER. THIS HAPPEN ABOUT 4 TIME BEFORE I REACH MY DESTINATION, I DROVE IN THE RIGHT LANE SO I WOULD BE ABLE TO PULL SAFELY OFF THE ROAD. TO DATE IF I RESTART THE CAR I CAN DRIVE IT FOR A SHORT DISTANCE BEFORE IT GOES OUT AGAIN. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER:11E009000 (FUEL SYSTEM AND GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING COLUMN (EPS) IN MY CAR, AND MANY OTHERS OF THE SAME YEAR OR OLDER HAS/WILL FAIL. VERY DANGEROUS, CAR WILL NOT TURN WHEN DRIVER WANTS IT TO. FORESEE ACCIDENTS AND INJURY IF LEFT UNREPAIRED. THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED FOR THE 2005 MODEL, WHICH USES THE SAME EPS AS THE 2006. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM HAPPENING AT DIFFERENT MILEAGE MILESTONES, HOWEVER, CHEVY/GM IS BASICALLY SAYING THEY DON'T EXPECT THEIR SEDANS TO LAST LONGER THAN 100,000 MILES BY NOT REMEDYING THE PROBLEM. I HAVE 3 KIDS, THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THERE MUST BE A LOGICAL REASON AS TO WHY IN 2007 THEY SWITCHED TO POWER STEERING FLUID INSTEAD OF THE JUNK EPS. GM/CHEVY CAN EXPECT ME, AN OWNER OF 5 CHEVY VEHICLES, TO NEVER PURCHASE THIS TYPE OF POWER STEERING AGAIN. I AM ASKING FOR A RECALL, A REPAIR, A COMPROMISE FORM GM/CHEVY TO FIX THE VEHICLE AND KEEP MY LOYALTY TO THE BRAND. POWER STEERING FAILS. IT STARTED WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE WORK. I STARTED MY CAR, AND THE POWER STEERING IMMEDIATELY FAILED AND "POWER STEERING" SHOWED UP ON THE DIC. I TRIED TO TURN THE WHEEL, AND IT WAS ALMOST LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED UP. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, AND THEN BACK ON, AND IT WAS FINE. THEN, THIS PAST WEEKEND, IT DID THE SAME EXACT THING. I AGAIN, TURNED THE CAR OFF, THEN ON, AND IT WAS FINE. I DROVE TO THE CLOSEST CHEVY DEALERSHIP, AND OF COURSE THEY WERE CLOSED (IT WAS NEW YEARS DAY). I WENT TO LEAVE THE DEALERSHIP, TURNED MY WHEEL SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT AND POWER STEERING FAILED AGAIN! TURNED THE CAR OFF, THEN BACK ON, DROVE TO THE STOP SIGN, TURNED THE WHEEL SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT, AND POWER STEERING FAILED AGAIN. STEERING PROBLEMS. I WAS IN A TURNING LANE WITH MY SON IN THE CAR. I HEARD A DING AND POWER STEERING SHOWED UP ON MY DISPLAY. I HAD NO POWER STEERING!
