Noticed the steering was a little loose one day. It alarmed me so I kept a check on it. Now it's progressed and squeals. My steering is loose and almost free spinning for most of my driving.
Driving at 20mph, increasing speed to merge onto grand central parkway (up to around 45mph), steering wheel seized. All lights came on the dash, then disappeared. The car let out a few chimes, possibly 5 chimes. The car was unable to be steered and crossed 3 lanes before regaining control. Recall for the steering was completed on this car in 2020. The issue has occurred multiple times since the recall was completed.
Steering wheel locks up if you take off to quick.
on dash display beeped and said power steering.

sudden loss of steering power almost ending on a crash
Power steering goes out with out warning while driving. Says add power steering fluid no way to add some. Also makes a clunking noise and steering wheel is very shaky. The loosing of power steering is not safe as it can cause an accident. After looking up issue many have same issues. This needs to be recalled and fixed.
While driving on I95 the major highway my cars steering wheel started to shake and I heard like a popping noise then, a bell or chime rang and the information center read POWER STEERING. Suddenly the steering wheel was hard,I was taken by surprise, and almost went into the other lane. Thank God my son was with me he helped me get onto the first exit off the highway while other cars were speeding by. The next day I looked on the internet for any other people who had the same problem and I found out about the recall, called Chevrolet and spoke to the information about the recall and was told that the original owner had the work done and I was not eligible for any kind of help. The car now has 63000 miles on it after me buying it in June of 2020 with around45,000.have a car fax report given at time of sale shows no recall imfo,at all.I am a senior citizen getting not enough money to pay my bills and am on assistance from the government for.. I need help and am starting with you. I would like to know how long the parts were warranted because in 2014 the original owner had35000 miles on the car so that would make the part only lasting less than 30,000 miles,I love this car and it is the first one that I have ever given a name, though it might sound a little weird, oh well to each their own. I looked up the part on a well-known internet site and as electronic power steering assist module runs close to 300.00 and that does not include labor and god knows what else.

The approximate failure mileage was 140,000. Consumer stated "Failed component/part Information", it is incorrect to identify the failure in the hydraulic power assist/power steering fluid. The power steering on my car is electrical assist.
POWER STEERING SENSOR INTERMITTENT FAILURE - LOSS OF POWER STEERING

Power steering going out intermittently
Major fuel leak from fuel pump from gas tank area. This occured while driving. Car needed to be towed for repair. Required replacement of electric fuel pump inside the gas tank.
Steering locks up when accelerating onto highway or any heavy acceleration. Car also will make clicking sounds when this happens.
I started losing steering when I accelerated. Then the vehicle security system would t allow me to take the gear out of park then the car suddenly stopped working all together and all the lights on dash flash, the radio says power steering loss, the steering wheel starts moving back and forth all on its own, the vehicle dies and fries the alternator and won't start.
The electronic power steering goes out while driving and while making a turn. It has almost put me in a ditch and also into oncoming traffic.

ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, SINCE PURCHASING LESS THAN 2 YEARS AGO, MY POWER STEERING HAS STOPPED WORKING. IF I TURN THE CAR OFF, GET OUT, AND GET BACK IN TO RESTART, THEN IT HAS CORRECTED ITSELF. IT HAS ALWAYS HAPPENED IN A STATIONARY SETTING THUS FAR, BUT AFTER READING ABOUT THE 2014 RECALL FOR 04-06, I'M NERVOUS THAT I MAY BE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE.
Power steering light kept coming on for a long time and steering was affected sometimes making it very hard to steer now its really causing a hard time steering I'm afraid to drive the car. I understand there was a recall about this problem in the 2006 malibu I never got a notice. Sandra Cusson.
POWER STEERING KEEPS GOING OUT. I WILL BE DRIVING AND IT WILL RANDOMLY GO OUT, THE SHOPS CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT, AND KEEPS RESETTING THE CODE AND THEN IT GOES OUT AGAIN IN A MONTH OR SO. THE DASHBOARD INFORMATION GIVES A WARNING ABOUT THE POWER STEERING. THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR OVER A YEAR.

WAS DRIVING CAR AND THE ENGINE CUT OFF. REDUCED ENGINE POWER SHOWED ON MY RADIO AND TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON ON THE DASH. I HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK, TURN IGNITION OFF, WAIT A COUPLE OF MINUTES, THEN CRANK IT BACK UP TO DRIVE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE NOTICED THAT IT HAPPENS WHEN IT IS RAINING OR HAS RAINED. WHEN THE ROADS ARE WET. IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. IT HAS HAPPENED BOTH WHILE DRIVING AND BRAKING. C0242 - ENGINE CONTROL MODULE INDICATED TRACTION CONTROL MALFUNCTION IS THE CODE IT IS GIVING ME. THIS IS CAUSING MY GAS MILEAGE TO DROP TO AROUND 230-250 MILES PER TANK. WHEN I WAS GETTING ALMOST 400 PER TANK.

I HAVE OWNED MY CAR FOR OVER 5 YEARS NEVER HAD AN ISSUE UNTIL 2WKS AGO. I WAS LEAVING THE STORE AND HAD NO POWER STEERING. I'M NOT CAR SAVVY, BUT A KNOW ENOUGH TO GET BY. THOUGHT MY FLUID WAS LOW BUT FOUND OUT MY CAR HAS HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING AND THE RACK WAS PROLLY BAD, BUT LEFT THE AUTO STORE AND THE POWER STEERING RETURNED. AND HAS BEEN IN AND OUT UNTIL I FOUND THIS RECALL. LUCKILY BOTH THE GROCERY STORE AND AUTO STORE WERE IN THE SAME PARKING LOT AND MY DRIVE HOME WAS ONLY A HALF MILE,

MY POWER STEERING WILL GO COMPLETELY OUT WHILE DRIVING. MY STEERING WHEEL WILL BEGIN TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY WHILE BRAKING TO SLOW DOWN AND WHEN I AM AT A COMPLETE STOP. VERY HARD TO STEER WHILE THIS IS ALL HAPPENING.
the power electric steering message not working comes on in the info center at times i believe it said shaft needed to be replaced this has happened a few times this past year comes on a few times then goes out for a while i dont believe it was fixed on a recall
AS I WAS DRIVING, MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD JUST SHAKE. ESPECIALLY WHEN I TRY TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT. THERE'LL BE A CLICKING SOUND THEN IT STIFFENS UP AND I'M UNABLE TO TURN, THEN IT STOPS. YESTERDAY, 12.20.2020, I WAS DRIVING WITH MY 2YR OLD IN THE CAR AND MY STEERING COMPLETELY STOPPED ALTOGETHER IN THE MIDDLE OF ME TURNING THE CORNER OFF THE HIGHWAY. I HAD TO STRUGGLE TO TURN THE WHEEL TO GET ALL THE WAY HOME TO SAFETY. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME 😭 THANKS!
ABOUT 1 MONTH AGO THE STEERING WHELL BEGAN TO SHUTTER JUST AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IT PROGRESSED SINCE THEN TO MORE NOTICABLE SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL SPEEDS WITH INTERMITTENT SHUTTING OFF OF THE POWER STEERING. NOW THE POWER STEERING SHUTS OFF ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER START UP. MAKING THE VEHICLE PRACTICALLY UNDRIVABLE AND UNSAFETO OPERATE. I SAW THAT THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS FOR THIS VEHICLE FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT WHEN I CHECKED THE VIN IT SAYS THERE ARE "0" UNREPAIRED RECALLS. SO SINCE I'VE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 2.5 YEARS THAT A PREVIOUS OWNER MAY HAVE REPAIRED IT ALREADY?
THE CAR WILL BEEP AT ME THEN POWER STEERING SHOWS UP ON THE DASH WHEN STILL. THEN THE STEERING GETS HARD. BUT IF I TURN IT OFF THEN TURN IT ON AGAIN IT WORKS OKAY FOR A LITTLE WHILE.
THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AND IT WANTS TO GO TO THE RIGHT AND WHEN I FIX THE WHEEL TO GO STRAIGHT THE CAR MAKES A BEEPING NOISE AND THEN THE WHEEL LOCKS UP. IT DOES THIS WHEN MOVING FORWARD OR TURNING.
The rack and pinion needs to be replaced at the speed of 65 the steering feels loose and I was told that the rack and pinion is out, so I am having to replace the entire thing, I dont have a receipt yet because it's going to the shop next week, it seems odd that a car with only 75k miles would need a new rack and pinion. Also the high mount brake light is out..which seems crazy on a car with low miles, I understand that the car is old but to me it's a new car, I only just purchased it in October 2020.
THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING IN STREET TRAFFIC. I HAD TO MANUALLY STEER THE CAR USING BOTH ARMS AND ALOT OF FORCE. I HAVE USED THE CAR AGAIN SINCE THEN AND THE SAME ISSUE COMES AND GOES AT RANDOM WHILE DRIVING.
I HAVE OWNED MY 2006 CHEVY MALIBU SINCE LATER 2018. IT IS NOW NOV 1ST 2020. A FEW MONTHS AFTER I GOT THE VEHICLE I HAD ISSUES. I HAVE HAD ALL RECALLS REPLACED BY FREDERICKSBURG VIRGINIA CHEVY DEALERSHIP (THEY SAY THAT THEY DID?) THE ENTIRE TIME I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE THE STEERING VIBRATES AT HIGH SPEEDS. ALSO THE ENTIRE TIME I'VE OWNED THIS CAR, WHEN I SPEED UP ANY HILLS MY STEERING LOCKS UP MY BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR PULLS TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT DEPENDING. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE! DEALER DIDN'T KNOW WHAT COULD CAUSE IT. I LEARNED TO IMMEDIATELY TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND THE STEERING GOES BACK TO NORMAL. THIS IS NOT EASY ON A CURVY HILL ROAD. THIS CAN CAUSE A SERIOUS WRECK. I HAVE A 10 MONTH OLD BABY. THIS IS FRIGHTENING IF IT ONE DAY IT DOESN'T FIX BY TAKING MY FOOT OFF THE PEDAL. NOW MY STEERING IS STIFF AND IS SO HARD TO TURN WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED. THE STEERING MOTOR RECALL HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED SAYS THE DEALER. SO WHY IS IT GOING BAD AGAIN? IT HAS ONLY BEEN 30,000 MILES LATER. WHY AM I HAVING A STIFF STEERING WHEEL AGAIN IF THEY REPLACED IT? THE TC LIGHT CAME ON WITHIN HOURS OF THE STEERING GOING STIFF. WHY DOES CHEVY DISTRIBUTE VEHICLES WITH SUCH SAFETY ISSUES? I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE STEERING TO BE 'FIXED/REPLACED' AGAIN! DANGEROUS CHEVY VEHICLE.

Electric Power Steering - 10/2020 Suddenly went out while driving. No warnings beforehand. This made sharp turns extremely difficult. It says that my car is not part of the recall, but is still as dangerous as the vehicles that were part of the recall. From the research that I have done, the motor seems to be in good working order. The sensor is what seems to be the issue. Cruise Control - 08/2023 Goes out randomly. I was on the freeway when it turned off by itself. If I was not paying attention, this could've caused an accident. No warning beforehand. Brake Switch - 06/2023 Seems to be something wrong with the switch. The brake light stays on after braking. Turn Signal Switch - 10/2020 Does not cancel after turning right. This can potentially confuse other drivers. Fuel Pump - 10/2020 The float of the fuel pump is not working. It says it is empty, even after filling it up. It will occasionally show that the tank is all of the way filled during rapid acceleration. This could make me run out of fuel while driving if I lose track of mileage; which could result in an accident. None of the components have been inspected by a dealer or manufacturer. The Electric Power Steering and turn signal are available to be inspected. Again there were no indicators before failure. I do know that there are recalls on other vehicles with the same issues, but for some reason mine was excluded. Some of these occurred before the dates stated, but these dates are when I remember them affecting me the most.
