STEERING WHEEL SHAKES WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND STREETS. POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING WHILE TRYING TO MAKE A TURN. FIRST TIME STEERING STARTED SHAKING IS WHEN I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY, WHEN IT JUST STARTED SHAKING AND MADE MY CAR GO RIGHT ONTO THE NEXT LANE. *TR
THE PASSENGER DOOR LOCK DOES NOT OPERATE. THE LOCKS MOVES SLIGHTLY BUT NOT ENOUGH TO LOCK OR UNLOCK THE DOOR. *TR
DRIVERS SEAT DEFECTED. THE METAL BRACKET THAT SECURE THE SEAT BROKE, CASING THE SEAT NOT TO SLIDE FORWARD OR BACK, UP OR DOWN. ALSO THE SEAT PADDING AND COVER TO SEPARATE FROM THE SEAT MOLDEN. TOOK VEHICLE TO BUICK CAR SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY SAID THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THEY HEARD OF THIS AND WANTED TO CHARGE E SIX HUNDRED FOR THE REPAIRS STATING THEY WOULD PICK UP THE OTHER SIX HUNDRED . AT THE TIME THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY WAS REPAIRING THE TRANSMISSION THAT ALSO WENT OUT ON A VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME WAS LESS THEN FIVE YEARS OLD. . *TR
WE WAS GETTING READY TO PARK AND THE STEERING COLUMN GOT REALLY STIFF AND I COULDN'T MOVE THE CAR TO PARK. I HAD TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART THE CAR AND IT LOOSING UP. I WAS IN THE CITY OF SOUTH BAY, FLORIDA. *TR ## VIN FAILED ##
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 45 MILES PER HOUR, THE STEERING WHEEL ON MY 2008 MALIBU BEGAN TO SHAKE OR VIBRATE WHILE BUILDING SPEED. A POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER PULLING OVER, I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON WHICH SEEMED TO RESET THE WARNING LIGHT. I KNEW ABOUT PULLING OVER TO RESET THE CAR DUE TO AN ?AIRBAG WARNING? LIGHT THAT HAS RANDOMLY COME ON EVER SINCE I PURCHASED MY CAR. UPON RESUMING DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. IT TOOK PULLING OVER AND RESETTING IT FOUR TIMES TO GET TWENTY MILES DOWN THE ROAD. IT CAME ON AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. UPON HEADING HOME, THE STEERING WHEEL IN MY CAR MOVED WHILE SITTING STILL WITH THE MOTOR RUNNING. IT LOOKED LIKE SOMEONE WAS TURNING THE WHEEL BACK AND FORTH AND UP AND DOWN, BUT I WAS NOT TOUCHING THE WHEEL. THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON WHILE SITTING STILL, SO I SHUT THE CAR OFF TO RESET IT. IT TOOK THREE TRIES OF STARTING AND STARTING THE ENGINE TO RESET THE WARNING LIGHT. I DROVE HOME ON A CURVY COUNTY ROAD. THE SAME POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON FIVE TIME IN LESS THAN TWENTY MILES AT VARIOUS SPEEDS - NO CERTAIN SPEED SEEMED TO PROMPT IT.SOMETIMES I WAS GOING 20 MPH AND SOMETIMES I WAS GOING 55 OR 65 MPH WHEN THE SYSTEM FAILED. I HAD TO STOP IN THE ROADWAY TO RESET THE CAR. EACH TIME, THE STEERING BECAME NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN AND MANEUVERING THE CORNERS WAS NOT SAFELY POSSIBLE AND SINCE THERE WAS NO SHOULDER, I HAD TO STOP IN THE ROADWAY TO TRY TO RESET THE STEERING. THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON AT VARIOUS SPEEDS OR WHILE SITTING IN PARK WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REVERSING, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS ERRONEOUSLY ILLUMINATED. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKE SWITCH HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER REFUELING, THE SENDING UNIT FRACTURED AND FELL INTO THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL GAUGE BEGAN PERFORMING ERRATICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THE SENDING UNIT WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE SENDING UNIT WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 69,700.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ERRONEOUSLY AND FAILED TO ILLUMINATE DURING DECELERATION. IN ADDITION, THE DRIVER'S SIDE TURN SIGNAL, DRIVER'S SIDE BRAKE LIGHT, AND INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES MALFUNCTIONED INTERMITTENTLY. THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY AND TRACTION CONTROLS ALSO FAILED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS IN COLD WEATHER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON ALL THE TIME, EXCEPT WHEN I FIRST PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. I HAVE ALREADY APPLIED DIELECTRIC GREASE TO CONNECTOR AND PLUGGED/UNPLUGGED MANY MANY TIMES. WORKS FOR ABOUT 1 DAY. *TR
IN THE LAST YEAR I HAVE PURCHASED FOUR GAS CAPS AND HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS GOING ON AND OFF. I HAVE HAD IT TESTED AT AUTO ZONE AND THEY STATED IT IS THE GAS CAP. GM STATED THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THERE GAS CAPS. *TR

THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START UNTIL AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE SHIFTER CABLE WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,735.
THE IGNITION SWITCH HAS BEEN DIFFICULT TO MOVE FROM OFF TO START POSITION AND THE GEAR SHIFT HAS BEEN DIFFICULT TO MOVE INTO GEAR; THIS HAS OCCURRED FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS. I CALLED PREVIOUSLY AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN WASN'T PART OF ANY RECALL. I HAVE TO BELIEVE THAT GM HASN'T RECOGNIZED THAT THIS VIN ALSO HAS AN ISSUE, BUT JUST HASN'T IDENTIFIED MY VIN OR SENT ME THE INFORMATION. I ALSO HAD TO SPEND $1000 ON ANOTHER ISSUE WITH THIS MALIBU, WHICH I CALLED AGAIN TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL AND THERE WASN'T. PLEASE CHECK OUT MY COMPLAINTS BEFORE ANOTHER ACCIDENT OCCURS. *TR

THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14E044000 (STEERING); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO REMEDY THE RECALL WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
THERE ARE FIVE RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD BE NOTIFIED WHEN PARTS CAME IN. AT THIS POINT THERE WERE ONLY 2 RECALLS AND NOW THERE ARE 5. I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE ANY RECALL LETTERS ON MY VEHICLE. IN THE CASE THAT NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE RECALLS ARE HERE THEY ARE: NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14E044000, 14V252000, 14V22400, 14V153000, 12V460000, 14V153, 12V460. THESE ARE THE NUMBERS THAT I HAVE FOUND ON RECALL WEBSITES. I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RECALLS FROM THE NEWS. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY LETTERS IN REGARD TO THESE RECALLS. WHEN WILL SOMETHING BE DONE? I AM SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR AND I NEED MY CAR. PLEASE RESPOND TO ME IN A TIMELY MATTER THIS IS THE 9TH TIME I HAVE TRIED TO GET INFORMATION ON WHEN MY CAR WILL BE FIXED. *TR
THE STEERING WHEEL TURNS ON ITS OWN CAUSING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THERE HAS BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS WITH THE 2008 MALIBUS AND OTHERS WITH THE ELECTRIC STEERING MOTORS. I KNOW A FEW OTHER VEHICLES WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM HAVE BEEN RECALLED AND IT IS TIME FOR GM TO RECALL THE MALIBU BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. YOU TUBE HAS A FINE EXAMPLE OF THIS PROBLEM IF ANYONE CARES TO WATCH. THE VEHICLE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE MOVING FOR THE WHEEL TO MOVE ERRATICALLY BACK AND FORTH. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ASAP. *TR
THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS ON ALL 4 DOORS DO NOT OPERATE, I HAVE TO USE THE KEY TO UNLOCK THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR THEN CLIMB OVER THE SEATS TO UNLOCK THE REAR DOORS AND REACH ACROSS TO UNLOCK PASSENGER DOOR. *TR
THERE NEEDS TO BE AN OFFICIAL GM RECALL ON THE CHEVY MALIBU 2008. MY BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT WORK. THEY WORKED IN REVERSE. EVERY TIME I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP, THE LIGHTS WOULDN'T TURN ON TO INDICATE TO OTHER DRIVERS THAT I WAS SLOWING DOWN. WHEN MY FOOT WAS OFF THE BRAKE, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD TURN ON. FOR ME, AND THE FAMILY THAT I DRIVE IN THIS CAR, I FELT THIS WAS HAZARDOUS. THIS WAS NOT SAFE DRIVING FOR ME AND FOR EVERYONE AROUND ME. IF I HAD TO SUDDENLY STOP AND APPLY MY BRAKES, I COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE BRAKE LIGHT ISSUE IS ONLY RECALLED FOR 2004-2007 MALIBU'S. THIS ISSUE HAS CONTINUED ON PAST 2007. *TR
DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR FAILED IN REAR, DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION BUT THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE SLIGHTLY. THE CONTACT APPROACHED A STOP SIGN AND ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE BUT THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE VIGOROUSLY. THE FAILURE WAS CONSTANT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE STEERING MOTOR AND MODULE ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,245.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION BUT THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOOSE AND WAS ABLE TO MOVE FREELY WITHOUT DEMAND. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
THE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCK ON THE LEFT SIDE BEHIND THE DRIVER WILL NOT COME UP ALL THE WAY TO UNLOCK THE DOOR MOST OF THE TIME I EITHER HAVE TO GO AROUND THE CAR TO THE OTHERSIDE TO UNLOCK IT OR CRAWL OVER THE FRONT SEAT TO UNLOCK IT. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY SEVERAL OTHERS WHOM OWN THE SAME TYPE OF VEHICLE THAT THEY TOO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAVE HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED. I PURCHASED MY CAR USED AND HAVE RECENTLY BEEN TOLD WHEN I CALLED ABOUT THE PROBLEM THAT THE FRONT DRIVERS DOOR LOCK HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACE. IF SO MAY OF THEM HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACE MY CONCERN IS WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL ON SUCH A DEVICE. TO ME THIS COULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD SHOULD YOU BE IN A WRECK AND THE DOORS ARE LOCK AND EMERGENCY PERSONAL TRIED TO GET IN FROM THE BACK TO HELP SOMEONE AND THE DOOR WOULDN'T OPEN. *TR
WHILE PRESSING THE BRAKE TO SLOW TO TURN TO THE RIGHT THE ESC SERVICING COMES ACROSS THE DASH. I CALL THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THE NEXT DAY (CAUSE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED AFTER HOURS) THEY TECH SAYS NEXT TIME THE LIGHT COMES ON BRING IT IN WITHOUT TURNING THE CAR OFF. FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL TIMES IT HAPPENS OF COURSE WAS AFTER HOURS. I TOOK IT IN FOR A OIL CHANGE, AND WHEN LEAVING THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I AUTOMATICALLY TURNED AROUND AND WENT BACK. UPON DIAGNOSTIC TESTING IT SHOWS NOTHING IS WRONG AND THE TECH SAYS MY CAR DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING THAT WOULD SET OFF THIS CODE. CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT ESC STANDS FOR ON THIS MODEL CAR????? *TR
I FIRST EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM OCTOBER 2011 WHEN THE DASHBOARD MESSAGE INDICATED SERVICE TRACTION AND SERVICE ESC, I TOOK MY CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT GARAGE WHERE THEY PUT DIELECTRIC GREASE ON THE BCM CONNECTORS. THEY STATED IF THE PROBLEM CONTINUES, I WOULD HAVE TO GO TO A DEALER FOR THE BCM TO BE REPROGRAMMED. WHILE THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM OF MY SERVICE BRAKE LIGHTS COMING ON WITHOUT TOUCHING MY BREAK PEDAL AND THEN WHILE BREAKING NO BREAK LIGHTS COME ON, THE FIX ONLY WORKED TEMPORARILY. I TOOK MY CAR TO A DEALERSHIP, BECAUSE LIKE OTHERS HAVE MENTIONED, WHEN YOU SHUT THE CAR OFF IT CLEARS THE MESSAGE UNTIL YOU ARE NO LONGER AT THE GARAGE AND IT COMES BACK ON. I TOO TOOK MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND DID NOT SHUT THE CAR OFF. THE SERVICE WRITER SAW THE MESSAGES WHICH WERE, SERVICE TRACTION AND SERVICE ESC. THE FIRST TIME I VISITED THE DEALER WAS ON JUNE 1, 2012, THEIR REPORT STATES CODE C0131 ABS TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM PRESSURE CIRCUIT. I HAD THIS PROBLEM FIXED ON JUNE 25, 2012 IN WHICH THEY REPLACED AND CALIBRATED BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH, GREASED BCM CONNECTOR, CLEARED CODE, ROAD TEST, REPLACE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH FOR A SUM OF MONEY. THIS HAS NOT FIXED MY PROBLEM TO DATE. THE PROBLEM IS ESPECIALLY PERSISTENT DURING DAMP AND WET WEATHER. IT IS AN UNEASY FEELING DRIVING BECAUSE IT HAPPENS AT RANDOM TIMES. *TR
I HAVE MADE THIS COMPLAINT BEFORE. IT CONCERNS THE FRONT WHEEL SHAKES, VIBRATION. AFTER GETTING TIRED OF THIS I PUT THE CAR ON JACKS REMOVED THE WHEEL AND FOUND THE TIE ROD END BALL NUT TO BE LOOSE AND THE BALL JOINT TO BE FRIGHTENINGLY WORN. I REPLACED THE LOWER CONTROL ARM AND TIGHTENED THE TIE ROD BALL NUT MYSELF. THE PROBLEM HAS COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED. FUNNY THE DEALERSHIP COULDN'T FIGURE THIS OUT.I THINK THAT OTHER OWNERS SHOULD BE WARNED OF THIS POTENTIALLY FATAL CONDITION! *TR
I PURCHASED A 2008 CHEVY MALIBU AT MATT BLATT IN EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP IN NEW JERSEY APPROXIMATELY 5 MONTH (MARCH OR MAY OF 2011) WITH APPROXIMATELY 28,500 MILES. I SPOKE WITH A SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE [XXX] IN REGARDS TO THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM THAT MY VEHICLE WAS HAVING. MY STEERING WAS SHAKING OUT OF CONTROL AND I ALMOST GOT INVOLVED IN TWO VEHICLE ACCIDENTS THIS WEEK 10/19/11. I EXPLAINED THIS SITUATION TO DON, WHO STATED THAT BECAUSE I DID NOT PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE I WILL HAD TO PAY FOR THE SERVICE. I THEN PROCEEDED TO SPEAK TO THE MANAGER [XXX], WHO KINDLY SENT ME TO THE BENNETT CHEVROLET ON THE SAME DATE AND THE PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED. I OWN A 2008 CHEVY MALIBU WITH 30,700 MILES. I ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER LOCKS WHICH I WAS ADVISED THAT I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS. I BELIEVE THAT MY COMPLAINT WAS HANDLED VERY UNPROFESSIONAL BY [XXX], BECAUSE I WAS VERY SPECIFIC THAT I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND HE STATED WE CAN TOWED YOUR VEHICLE, BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY THE FEE. AGAIN I WAS AFRAID BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING MOTOR WAS DAMAGE AND MY VEHICLE WAS DRIVING OUT OF CONTROL. I'M REQUESTING SOME TYPE OF COMPENSATION AND I WILL LIKE THE POWER LOCKS TO BE FIXED FREE OF CHARGE. THE AFFECTED STEERING SHAFTS MAY HAVE A YOKE THAT INADEQUATELY SUPPORTS THE U-JOINT BEARING RESULTING IN A PREMATURE FAILURE. IT DOESN'T TURN HALF THE TIME AND MAKES A LOUD POPPING NOISE AND THE BLINKER NEVER TURN OFF.

THE DRIVER REAR WINDOWS ELECTRIC SUSPENSION WIRE POPPED AND CAME UNRAVELED AND WINDOW DROPS. FUEL LEVEL RANGE SENSOR DOES NOT PROVIDE ACCURATE READING. ALSO, DISABLED FUEL GAUGE ARM IN DASH (FLUCTUATES). DIAGNOSIS RAN AND SEEMS TO BE NO ISSUE WITH FUEL PUMP. WHILE DRIVING THE ARM BAR THAT KEEPS SEAT LEVEL AND IN PLACE SNAPPED AND SEAT FELL AS VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION (70MPH ON FREEWAY).. VERY SCARY.. DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED OF 65 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY JERKED RIGHT AND LEFT WITHOUT ANY WARNING. IT JERKED HARD ENOUGH THAT IT CAUSED THE CAR TO UNEXPECTEDLY CROSS INTO ANOTHER LANE. AFTER RETURNING GROCERY SHOPPING I COULD NOT GET GROCERIES INTO BACK SEAT, DOOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK . THIS COULD HAVE BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTHS AS I ALWAYS PUT GROCERIES IN FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND FLOOR AND NEVER USED REAR DOORS . APPROXIMATELY 1-2 WEEKS LATER OTHER REAR PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK. I CONTACTED DEALER WHO STATED GM MIGHT WORK WITH ME TO HELP A LITTLE BUT DOUBT IT AS MY MILEAGE WAS AT 42000 MILES. AFTER CHECKING ONLINE I FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM MALIBU OWNERS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THEM AT 40,000 - 50,000 MILES AFTER THE WARRANTY IS OVER. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE COVERED BY GM AS IT SHOWS A DEFECT IN THE ACTUATER IN DOORS GO BAD, AS WELL AS A NEGLIGENT SAFETY HAZARD KNOWING MANY CARS HAVING THIS PROBLEM. IS IT GOING TOI TAKE SOMEONE TO DIE IN REAR SEATS DUE TO THIS DEFECT WHEN AN ACCIDENT OR FIRE OCCURS. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD AS CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT CANNOT OPEN DOOR IF THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT OR FIRE, AS WELL AS A POLICEMAN/FIREMAN/RESCUERER, CANNOT OPEN EITHER REAR DOORS FROM THE OUTSIDE. YOU HAVE TO CRAWL OVER AND SQEEZE IN BETWEEN FRONT SEATS AND HAVE ENTIRE BODY IN BACK SEATS BEFORE YOU CAN REACH THE DOOR LOCKS TO MANUALLY OPEN THEM. THIS IS GOING TO COST ME APPROX $400-$500.00 FOR REAR DOORS AND READING OTHER CUSTOMERS THIS COULD EVENTUALLY APPLY TO ALL DOORS INCLUDING FRONT DOORS (ANOTHER $400-$500.00). LOOKING THIS UP ON THE INTERNET HAS SHOWN THIS PROBLEMS IS A COMON COMPLAINT AND NOT COVERED AFTER 3 YEAR OR 36000 MILE WARRANTY THOUGH MILEAGE IS NOT A FACTOR FOR THIS PROBLEM. WHAT WE DID NOT KNOW UNTIL JUNE 25TH 2015 WAS THAT IT WAS COMING ON DUE TO A CONDENSATION LINE LEAK AT THE PASSENGER SIDE COWL. ON JUNE 28, 2015 I DISCOVERED SOAKED CARPET IN THE RIGHT SIDE REAR FLOOR BOARD. I PULLED THE CARPET AND FOUND 1" OF WATER. OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS, ONLY DURING SUMMER MONTHS WITH AC RUNNING, THE SEAT WARMER WAS SHORTING OUT DUE TO WATER WAVES TRAVELING FORWARD AND BACK DURING ACCELERATION/BRAKING. THE LAST TWO YEARS ID FIND WET CARPET, BUT THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS A FLUKE, POSSIBLE SUNROOF LEAK, OR THAT I LEFT MY WATER THERMOS LID UNSCREWED BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT STAY WET ALL THE TIME DUE TO WEATHER, DRIVE TIMES ETC. OUT OF WARRANTY, I KNEW IT HAD TO BE AC CONDENSING LINE RELATED. I WENT TO THE DEALER (WEBER CHEVROLET IN CREVE COEUR MO), WHERE PURCHASED NEW, TO GET A DIAGRAM OF WHERE THE AC LINES RUN. THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST ME. I WENT TO AN AC AUTO REPAIR PERSON WHO FOUND A FACTORY PLUG IN THE AC DRAIN HOSE THAT EXITS THE COWL INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. HE REMOVED THE PLUG AND WATER OF COURSE CAME OUT. I THOUGHT THAT WAS IT BUT THE WATER KEPT LEAKING INTO THE CARPET. I REMOVED THE FRONT CARPET AND FOUND THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK AFTER VISITING A POST ON A CHEVYMALIBU FORUM. IT IS LEAKING THROUGH A 3OR 4SPONGE RUBBER SEAL ABOUT THE SIZE OF A HOCKEY PUCK, THAT APPARENTLY SURROUNDS THE BLOWER HOUSING TUBE THAT ENCASES THE CONDENSATION LINE THAT EXTENDS THOUGH THE COWL. I HAVE BEEN COMMUNICATING WITH A SERVICE SUPERVISOR AT WEBER. I JUST RECEIVED A FORUM REPLY WITH THE FOLLOWING TSB INFORMATION: MOISTURE IN CABIN: TSB 09-01-37-002A (A/C - FRONT/REAR PASSENGER CARPET WET). I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND A VIABLE REPAIR PROCEDURE BECAUSE I CANNOT ACCESS THE TSB BULLETIN.

MY 2008 MALIBU HAS A POWER STEERING PROBLEM. ON A DAILY BASIS THE POWER STEERING BECOMES ERRATIC AND FAILS TO REACT PROPERLY UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, USUALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WHILE STOPPED, THE STEERING WHEEL WILL TURN LEFT AND RIGHT ON ITS OWN. WHEN THIS OCCURS AT HIGHWAY SPEED CONTROL OF THE CAR IS DANGEROUS. TWO HANDS ARE NEEDED TO KEEP CAR IN LANE AND NOT CROSS THE LINE INTO OTHER VEHICLES. PROBLEM BEGAN WHEN MILEAGE HIT 45,000 MILES. OCCASIONALLY, A CHIME WILL OCCUR AND INDICATE POWER STEERING IN THE DISPLAY BUT BY THE TIME THE CHIME OCCURS THE STEERING PROBLEM IS GONE. THIS ISSUE IS CONSISTENT AND INTERMITTENT ON A DAILY BASIS. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM FOR CHEVY MALIBU AND HAVE FOUND THAT THOUSANDS OF MALIBU OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM CAUSED BY IMPROPER ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. THIS STEERING PROBLEM IS A FAILURE OF A COMPONENT IN THE STEERING ASSEMBLY THAT IS NOT SUBJECT TO ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART!!!
