TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND WHILE STOPPED, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD BEGIN TO TURN BACK AND FORTH. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,000.
DRIVING ON I 40 AT 70 MPH STEERING BECAME ERRATIC AND JERKING, IT TOOK EXTREME EFFORT TO STAY IN PROPER LANE, PULLED TO SHOULDER AND STOPPED. I KILLED THE CAR AND RESTARTED AND STEERING WAS NORMAL UNTIL I EXITED FREEWAY AND THERE WAS A SHORT EPISODE OF LOSS OF POWER STEERING BUT SOON STARTED TO WORK NORMAL. A POPPING NOISE IS NOW HEARD SOMETIMES AT SLOW TURNING SPEEDS AND IS NOT ALWAYS HEARD.
LETTER FROM SENATOR BROWN ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE CONCERNS ABOUT 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU (RESPOND TO CLEVELAND OFFICE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES AND FRONT HUB ASSEMBLY WERE REPLACED. ALSO, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE HEADLIGHTS HAD CONDENSATION WHICH CAUSED THE BULBS TO BLOW OUT. THE DEALER FOUND A SEAL AROUND THE PARAMETER OF THE CAPSULE WAS NOT PROPERLY SEALED AT THE FACTORY. THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT AND POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE WERE REPLACED. ALSO, THE FRONT SEAT HEATER SWITCH HAD TO BE REPLACED, DUE TO THE HEATER COMING ON WHEN THE SEAT WAS OCCUPIED. *JB
THIS VEHICLE IS HAVING ISSUES WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATING WITHOUT PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDALS. WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON BY THEMSELVES, TRYING TO USE THE BRAKES WHEN NEEDED (IE SLOWING DOWN, STOPPING) SHUTS THE BRAKE LIGHTS OFF, WHICH COULD CAUSE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE PERSONS IN THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS PERSONS IN OTHER VEHICLES AROUND MY VEHICLE. IT ALSO TAKES WHAT SEEMS TO BE SOME FORCE TO MAKE THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME BACK ON. SOMETIMES SHUTTING DOWN THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTING IT SOLVES THE ISSUE FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THE VEHICLE IS ALSO HAVING A CRUISE CONTROL ISSUE, WHICH I AM ASSUMING IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE ABOVE PROBLEM. THE CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT WANT TO STAY ENGAGED WHEN TURNED ON. IT SEEMS THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATE BY THEMSELVES. THIS IS ALSO ANOTHER SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE PERSONS WITHIN THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE IS ALSO HAVING AN ERROR THAT COMES ON ADVISING THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL IS OFF AND TO SERVICE THE ESC SOON. THIS LIGHT COMES ON FOR NO REASON THAT I CAN DETERMINE. THE ERROR CODE THAT COMES ON IS C0131. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND HAVE MULTIPLE PEOPLE (MORE THAN 50 AT THIS TIME) THAT I HAVE FOUND THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME EXACT ISSUES. THIS IS A VERY HIGH SAFETY CONCERN, THAT I AM UNSURE ON WHY THIS HASN'T BEEN RECALLED AS OF YET. I CAN IMAGINE THERE ARE WAY MORE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO HAVE JUST HAD THIS ISSUE FIXED ON THEIR OWN INSTEAD OF TAKING THEIR TIME OUT TO REPORT TO THE NHTSA FOR THEIR REVIEW. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE VIGOROUSLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON ENTERING THE VEHICLE HE SMELLED A STRONG FUEL ODOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A GASOLINE STATION TO BE REFUELED, BUT THE FUEL TANK WOULD ONLY ACCEPT A SMALL AMOUNT OF FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 98,291.
DRIVER DOOR DOES NOT UNLOCK WITH REMOTE ALL THE TIME OR LOCK WITH REMOTE ALL THE TIME. ALSO THE COMPUTER THAT GIVES YOU OIL LIFE ,AVERAGE SPEED,AND OTHER READINGS IS GIVING THE WRONG READINGS. I TOOK THIS CAR TO A DEALER WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY SAID IT COULD NOT BE VERIFIED.THE DOOR LOCK IS AN INTERMITTANT PROBLEM. *TR
THE POWER DOOR LOCKS ARE INTERMITTENT OR HAVE FAILED. THIS HAS BECOME A PROBLEM WITH CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT LEAVING THEM WITH UNLOCKED DOORS OR MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO REACH ACROSS TO UNLOCK THE DOOR WERE A BABY SEAT IS LOCATED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD WOBBLE FROM LEFT TO RIGHT AND WOULD OCCASIONALLY BECOME EXTREMELY TIGHT. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD EVENTUALLY FAIL AND SEIZE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
SEVERAL TIMES WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED. MY TECHS ARE QUALIFIED AND THESE WERE DEFECTIVE WHEN THE CUSTOMER CAME IN, BUT BECAUSE WE SHOWED THEM TO THE CUSTOMERS THEY FELT WE DAMAGED THEM. IT IS MAKING US NOT WANT TO INFLATE TIRES....AND THIS IS UNSAFE FOR THE CUSTOMER. *TT

THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. WHENEVER THE CONTACT MADE A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM SHUT OFF AND THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,852.
STEERING WHEEL RANDOMLY JERKS RIGHT AND LEFT WHILE DRIVING. IS VERY "NOTCHY" AND DIFFICULT TO RETURN TO THE PRECISELY DESIRED POSITION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD JERK ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BECOME HARD TO STEER ONCE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL HAD TO BE RE LEARNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VIOLENTLY WHEN THE CAR WAS AT REST AND THEN BEGAN TO SHAKE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 49K MILES. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND HAD THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED. THEN THE POWER DOOR LOCKS BEGAN TO FAIL; BOTH PASSENGER DOOR LOCKS AND THE DRIVER'S LOCK MUST BE OPERATED MANUALLY NOW (WELL, THE DRIVER'S DOOR LOCK WORKS 1/2 OF THE TIME...NEVER KNOW IF IT IS ACTUALLY ENGAGED UNLESS YOU DO IT MANUALLY). NO OUTSIDE KEYHOLE EXISTS FOR THE PASSENGER DOOR SIDE TO BE UNLOCKED, WHICH IS VERY INCONVENIENT AND POTENTIALLY UNSAFE, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING ALONE AND CANNOT GET THE DOORS LOCKED BY PUSHING THE BUTTON. HAVE DRIVEN GM VEHICLES MY ENTIRE LIFE, BUT THIS IS THE LAST TIME THE COMPANY WILL EVER GET MY MONEY. SAD.... *TR
BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON AND STAY ON WHEN YOU DON'T EVEN PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. *JB
MY 2008 CHEVY MALIBU HAS A RECURRING BRAKE LIGHT ISSUE. THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON RANDOMLY, AND WHEN YOU STEP DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL YOU GET NO BRAKE LIGHTS RANDOMLY. I'VE ALMOST BEEN HIT COUNTLESS TIMES DUE TO VEHICLES BEHIND ME NOT KNOWING WHEN I'M ACTUALLY STOPPING DUE TO THE BRAKE LIGHTS BEING ON FOR 20 MILES STRAIGHT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. *TR

2008 MALIBU V6 ENGINE THE CAR GOING 60 MILES PER HOUR AN GOES TO NEUTRAL HAVE TO HIT BRAKES TO GET IT TO GO BACK TO NORMAL,COULD BLOW UP MOTOR OR CAUSE WRECK. *TR
THE WAS NOTHING LEADING UP TO THE EVENT, THE CAR WAS WORKING FINE. ONE DAY IN MAY I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR DID NOT UNLOCK AS THE REST OF THE DOORS DID. I PUT THE CARE BACK IN DRIVE, THEN BACK IN PARK, STILL THE DOOR DID NOT UNLOCK, I TRIED THE LOCK BUTTON, AND THE REMOTE FOR THE CAR AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND SINCE MY WARRANTY IS UP, I WAS TOLD ITS $52 TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. UNFORTUNATELY MY BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY ENDED IN DEC 2010. I SEE THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH ONE OR MORE DOORS NOT WORKING AFTER APPROXIMATELY 37K MILES. *TR
2008 MALIBU - DRIVERS DOOR LATCH DOES NOT WORK. OFTEN DRIVER GETS STUCK IN VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THERE IS A LOUD KNOCK IN THE STEERING AND IT HAS HAD A RING GEAR REPLACED ALREADY, SAME PROBLEM 12,000 MILES LATER. *TR
MY 2008 CHEVY MALIBU LTZ 4 CYLINDER HAS A VERY SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW WHICH GM/CHEVY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE. IT IS PUTTING MY FAMILY AND I AND POSSIBLE DANGER. THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCES VERY SEVERE LAGS AND HESITATION AT VARIABLE INTERVALS WHILE DRIVING EITHER STOP AND GO OR ON A HIGHWAY. LAST MONTH WHILE DRIVING ON RT. 95 IN CONNECTICUT, OUR VEHICLE ACTED UP AND IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND SHIFT BETWEEN GEARS PROPERLY. THE SERIOUS LAGS WHERE THE VEHICLE IS INBETWEEN GEARS WITH NO ENGINE/TRANS. ENGAGEMENT, LEFT US CLOSE TO BEING RUN OVER BY A TRACTOR TRAILER. *TR

OVER TIME, THE CONTACT BEGAN TO HEAR A POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN WHILE MAKING TURNS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE IN THE PROCESS OF DIAGNOSING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
PASSENGER AIR BAG WILL NOT ARM ALL THE TIME WITH PASSENGER IN SEAT. STILL DOING THE SAME THING TO DATE! *JS
THE SUPER LATCH BELT ON MY SUNSHINE KIDS RADIAN XTSL LOOSENS FAR TOO EASILY. DRIVING, BUMPING THE SEAT, EVEN JUST PUTTING MY DAUGHTER IN HER SEAT MADE IT LOOSEN. BACK IN APRIL I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY DRIVER SIDE LOCK. IT WOULD GET STUCK. SOMETIMES THE DOOR WOULDN'T EVEN OPEN. I WOULD PRESS THE BUTTON TO UNLOCK THE DOOR, AND THAT WOULDN'T WORK. I WOULD HAVE TO USE MY KEY, ANS SOMETIMES THAT DIDN'T WORK EITHER. I AM STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE LOCK, AND PRETTY MUCH EVERYDAY I HAVE TO USE MY KEY TO OPEN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. I WAS TOLD TO USE WD-40 AND THAT SILL DIDN'T HELP. THE MOST RECENT EVENT WITH MY CAR IS THIS LOUD VIBRATING NOISE THAT HAS BEEN OCCURING OFF AND ON FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS. I'V HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE CHECK IT OUT AND THEY SAY THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. MY CAR MAKES THE NOISE WHILE SITTING IN PARK, SOMETIMES WHILE I'M DRIVING, OR SITTING STILL AT A LIGHT. ABOUT A 1-1 1/2 MONTHS AGO MY WHEEL WOU;D MOVE BACK AND FORTH. I WENT TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WASN'T ANYTHING WRONG. MY WHEEL MOVES MORE AND MORE. IT MOVES SOMETIMES WHEN I FIRST START MY CAR, WHILE SITTING A LIGHT, AND AT VARIOUS SPEEDS WHILE I AM DRIVING. WHEN I TURN MY STEERING WHEEL BACK IN A NEUTRAL POSITION SOMETIMES IT WOULD TURN THE OTHER WAY. TODAY MY WHEEL WAS MOVING WHILE I WAS DRIVNG AND MY CAR STARTED MOVING IN THE SAME DIRECTION. IT WAS HARD TO CONTROL AND IT WAS VERY SCARY BECAUSE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. I'M SO FED UP WITH THIS CAR, AND I TOTALLY REGRET BUYING IT. I AM PROBABLY NEVER GOING TO BUY A CHEVROLET AGAIN, EVEN IF CHEVROLET'S ARE ALL THAT I HAVE EVER OWNED. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK WOULD NOT ACTIVATE UPON THE ENGAGEMENT OF THE KEY FOB OR THE INTERIOR DOOR LOCK DEVICE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,638.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO TURN TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT DIRECTION INDEPENDENTLY. THE INTERMITTENT FAILURE OCCURRED FOR A BRIEF PERIOD WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS AND THEN THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD RESUME NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
THE POWER STEERING IS ACTING UP, THERE IS NO WARNING OR ENGINE LIGHT SIGNALS, I HAVE LOOKED UP FOR RECALL AND ALL I HAVE FOUND IN MANY OTHER CHEVY MALIBU OWNERS 2004 -2009 HAVING THE POWER STEERING ISSUES. IN SOME CASES THIS HAS CASED SOME OF THE DRIVERS TO LOSE COMPLETE CONTROL OF THEIR VEHICLE POWER STEERING AN RESULT IN A CRASH. TODAY MY WIFE SWERVED OFF THE ROAD AND JUST BARELY HIT A GUARD RAIL AND ALMOST RAN INTO THE BRIDGE DUE TO THE POWER STEERING JUST GOING OUT WITH OUT ANY NOTICE AND NO WARNING LIGHTS. GM HAS NO RECALL FOR THIS BUT IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO MANY OF PEOPLE FOR ALMOST A DECADE NOW, WHAT ARE THEY WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO GET SERIOUSLY HURT. GM SERVICE PERSONNEL TELL YOU TO TURN OF THE CAR AND A WILL WORK AGAIN FOR A LITTLE WHILE, WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT GOES OUT AGAIN? ALSO THEY SAID IT RUNS ABOUT 800.00 TO FIX THEN THERE ARE REPORTS OF IT GOING RIGHT BACK TO NOT WORKING, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE I DON'T HAVE 800.00, I SPENT 24,000 ON THIS VEHICLE I SHOULD HAVE TO TURN MY VEHICLE OFF TO JUST POSTPONE A SERIOUS PROBLEM. *TR
2008 CHEVY MAILBU. THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AND PULLS FROM LEFT TO RIGHT WHEN THE CAR IS IN PARK AND FIRST TURNED ON. IT ALSO HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING ON AND OFF THE HIGHWAY. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. CAR HAD 36,000 WHEN PROBLEM STATED. PULLING AND SHAKING IS GETTING WORSE AND HARDER TO CONTROL AND KEEP CAR IN LANE. *TR

ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILS INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER AT LOW SPEEDS. TURNING VEHICLE OFF AND ON FIXES THE ISSUE. GM ISSUED RECALL FOR OTHER VEHICLES WITH ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING IN MARCH 2010, MY VEHICLE WAS NOT LISTED ON THAT RECALL ALTHOUGH IT SUFFERS FROM THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS. *TR
MY 2008 CHEVY MALIBU'S SHIFTING CABLE BROKE. I WAS DRIVING IT AND WENT TO PARK AND IT WOULD NOT GO INTO PARK HOWEVER I HAD IT IN PARK ON THE GEARSHIFT. WHEN I EXITED THE VEHICLE IT ROLLED FORWARD. I HAD TO SET THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO KEEP IT STOPPED. MY CAR IS AT THE DEALERSHIP RIGHT NOW AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. SINCE THE 2009 MALIBU HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AND THERE IS A RECALL ON THE SHIFTING CABLE CLIP, I FEEL THE 2008 CHEVY SHOULD BE INCLUDED AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. *TR

FIRST REAR DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR FAILED. WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BY DEALER. ABOUT TWO MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY THE OTHER REAR DOOR ACTUATOR FAILED. GOT A QUOTE OF ALMOST $400 TO FIX. YEAH, RIGHT. THEN THE REPLACED ACTUATOR FAILED. SO WE'RE UP TO $800 TO REPAIR. THEN (SEE MY OTHER COMPLAINT FILED) - THE DOOR LOCKS START RANDOMLY LOCKING AND UNLOCKING WHETHER THE CAR IS ON OR OFF.

THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS ADJUSTED TO TILT DOWNWARDS AT THE LOWEST SETTING. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 37,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

STEERING WHEEL SHAKES INTERMITTENTLY THROUGHOUT EACH DAY FOR APPROXIMATELY THE PAST 50 DAYS AS OF MAY 20, 2011. SOMETIMES OCCURS WHEN CAR IS INITIALLY TURNED ON (SHAKES QUICKLY TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT AS IF A LITTLE CHILD WAS PLAYING WITH THE STEERING WHEEL). SHAKING WILL ALSO TAKE PLACE SPONTANEOUSLY WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. ON MAY 10, 2011 PASSENGER SIDE POWER LOCKS BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION-WOULD NOT LOCK OR OPEN WHEN USING POWER BUTTON INSIDE CAR OR USING REMOTE. LOCKING AND UNLOCKING HAD TO BE DONE MANUALLY BY PULLING UP OR PUSHING DOWN LOCK.

THIS PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT BUT IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY CONSISTENT. VEHICLE IS AT SERVICE DEALERSHIP CURRENTLY, BUT CLEARLY HAS BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE.

BACK DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT LOCK UNLESS PUSHED DOWN MANUALLY. BOTH BACK DOORS WILL NOT LOCK WITH POWER LOCKS OR WITH KEY FOB. I HAVE READ ON MANY FORUMS THAT IT IS THE ACTUATOR NOT WORKING. THE CAR CAN ACTUALLY BE BROKEN INTO BECAUSE THE DOORS ARE ACTUALLY UNLOCKED. *TR
2008 CHEVY MALIBU WITH 60,000 MILES - I ENCOUNTERED PROBLEMS WITH STEERING- THE CAR WAS PULLING, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS MOVING WHEN THE CAR WAS STOPPED. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WAS TOLD IT NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT. HAD THE ALIGNMENT, THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE. TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WAS TOLD IT WAS THE STEERING COLUMN. WHEN THEY CALLED THE DEALER TO ORDER THE PARTS, THE DEALER ADVISED THEM THAT THEY SEE THIS PROBLEM 3-4 TIMES A WEEK ON THE MALIBU, BUT NEVER TOLD ME ABOUT IT. THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $1300, YET THE PROBLEM IS STILL NOT RESOLVED. WE WERE ALSO TOLD THAT THIS PARTICULAR PART IS ALSO THE SAME PART USED ON THE PONTIAC G6 WHICH HAS BEEN RECALLED, YET THERE IS NO RECALL ON THE CHEVY MALIBU. *TR
THE POWER STEERING IN THE VEHICLE JUMPS FROM LEFT TO RIGHT GOING DOWN THE ROAD. IT IS VERY HARD TO MAINTAIN YOUR LANE WHEN THIS HAPPENS. IT HAPPENS AT ALL DIFFERENT POINTS WHETHER THE CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING OR JUST STARTED, IT CAN LAST UP TO 30 MIN. QUIT THEN START AGAIN IT IS VERY UNSAFE. MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAS ALSO GONE OUT IN THIS CAR. IT LOOSES TRANSMISSION POWER, DOESN'T ACCELERATE PROMPTLY. WHEN WE FIRST GOT THE CAR WE HAD IT IN THE SHOP FOR THE BACK TRIM LEAKING, TRUNK RELEASE NOT WORKING, THE CAR WOULDN'T START DO TO THE AFTERMARKET ALARM THE DEALER SHIP PLACED ON IT, AND THE PAINT PEELED. AFTER DRIVING FOR A WHILE THEY WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER TO WORK SOMETHING OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 31,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
YOU HAVE TO TAKE OFF FRONT END OF CAR TO CHANGE HEADLIGHT BULB(BUMPER, GRILL, BRACKETS). REPLACED 3 HEADLIGHT BULBS IN LITTLE MORE THAN 1 YEAR . PROBLEM WITH REPLACING BULB......YOU HAVE TO TAKE OFF FRONT END TO CHANGE BULB. LAST TIME I CHANGED BULB WAS 3 WEEKS AGO. BULB OUT AGAIN.
