I AM REPORTING TWO INCIDENTS! APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS AGO MY BREAK LIGHTS STARTING TURNING ON AGAIN (AFTER THE RECALL WAS FIXED A YEAR PRIOR) WHILE DIVING THE VEHICLE. I WOULD TAP THE BREAKS AND THE LIGHT WOULD TURN OFF (GIVING CARS BEHIND ME THE IDEA THAT I WAS BREAKING WHEN I WASN'T AND WHEN I WAS BREAKING TO SLOW DOWN, THEY COULDN'T TELL). IT STILL DOES THIS PROBLEM. NOW AS OF 3/18/2017 WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY MY "SERVICE ESC POWER STEERING" LIGHT CAME ON. IT WAS VERY HARD TO STEER OFF THE HIGHWAY OR EVEN GET THE VEHICLE HOME. AS I RESEARCH MY VEHICLE ONLINE, THESE TWO ISSUES WERE RECALLED BACK IN 2014. I DON'T KNOW IF MY VEHICLE WAS SERVICED FOR THE POWER STEERING RECALL AS I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE ON 12/26/2014. I DO KNOW THAT THE BREAK LIGHT RECALL WAS SERVICED BECAUSE I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR THE RECALL. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TOMORROW AT THE CHEVROLET DEALER, BUT I KNOW I'M GOING TO HAVE TO PAY $1200 TO $1600 FOR THIS REPAIR. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THESE RECALLS! SOMEONE NEEDS TO MAKE SURE THEY DON'T CONTINUE TO HAPPEN EVERY YEAR OR EVERY OTHER YEAR GOING FORWARD.
VEHICLE IS STATING SERVICE POWER STEERING AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND I AM UNABLE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ONLINE THIS IS KNOWN PROBLEM WITH 2009 VEHICLES BUT YET MY CAR HAS NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE MY CHILDREN IN THIS VEHICLE, AND I SHOULDN'T BE RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING A PART THAT IS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR FAILED AND THE PART NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 14E044000 (STEERING) AND 14V153000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO SOLUTION. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN THAT THE FAILURE WOULD NOT RECUR IF THE OEM PARTS WERE REPLACED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 224,000.
SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER ASSIST WHILE IN MOTION ON CITY STREET. THIS MADE CHANGING LANES AND TURNING ONTO OTHER STREETS VERY DIFFICULT, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT FIRST OCCURRED. AAA TOWED THE CAR AND DID A DIAGNOSIS CHECK AND SAID THEY RECEIVED 2 CODES FOR STEERING SENSORS. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT REPAIR MY CAR AND I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER. THEY DID NOT CHARGE BE FOR THE DIAGNOSIS BUT ALSO DID NOT GIVE ME THE PRINTED REPORT. THE POWER ASSIST SIS RESTORE WHEN THE CAR WAS SHUT-OFF AND RESTARTED. HOW CAN IT BE THAT GM WOULD WOULD SELL A VEHICLE THAT CAN SUFFER A TOTAL FAILURE OF THE STEERING DUE TO A SENSOR CODE WITHOUT PROVIDING A FAIL SAFE MODE? AS THE STEERING ASSIST WAS RESTORED WITH THE SHOT-OFF AND RESTART OF THE CAR, IT WAS THE ECU THAT FAILED AND THE ASSIST MOTOR WAS STILL IN FUNCTIONING CONDITION.
LOUD WINDING NOISE WHILE DRIVING. SERVICE TRACTION/ESC OFF LIGHT ILLUMINATES WHILE CAR IS ON. ACCELERATES VERY SLOWLY AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON RANDOMLY
THE POWER STEERING FAILS WHILE DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER (AUTONATION CHEVROLET, WEST COLONIAL 3707 W. COLONIAL DRIVE, ORLANDO, FL 32808) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE WARRANTY EXPANSION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 127,812.
POWER STEERING STOP WORKING WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. THE MANUAL STEERING STILL WORK BUT IT IS HARDER. I STOPPED THE CAR, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND IT WORKS AGAIN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID I MUST BRING THE CAR IN FOR A DIAGNOSIS TEST THAT WILL COST $144.00. IF THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM, I WILL NOT BE CHARGED BUT IF THEY DO NOT FIND THE PROBLEM I WILL BE PAID $144.00. I READ THE RECALL NOTICES FROM NHTSA WEBSITE BUT IT INDICATED "SOME 2009 MALIBU HAD THIS ISSUES"
A FEW MINUTES AFTER I START DRIVING THE ESC OFF/SERVICE TRACTION LIGHT WILL COME ON AND IT KEEPS FLASHING BACK AND FOURTH BETWEEN ERROR MESSAGES. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOT ON, BUT WHEN I GO TO ACCELERATE MY CAR JUMPS KIND OF. AND IF I LET MY FOOT OFF THE GAS IT FEELS LIKE I'M SHIFTING GEARS AND MY CAR WILL START GOING SLOW. I'LL PUSH BACK DOWN ON THE GAS AND I WILL SEEM LIKE IT'S TRYING TO GET SPEED BUT TAKES A MIN. THEY ARE TRYING TO SAY I DON'T HAVE A RECALL BUT SOMETHING IS WRONG CLEARLY. THE ERROR LIGHTS WILL GO ON NO MATTER IF I'M DRIVING OR PARKED.
MY BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON WHEN I AM DRIVING THE CAR. THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL JUST STOP WORKING AND THE CAR OF COURSE SLOWS DOWN AT THIS POINT. YESTERDAY THE LOW TRACTION AND EIC LIGHT CAME ON. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SEVERAL MONTHS WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS AND CRUISE CONTROL THE LOW TRACTION AND EIC PROBLEM JUST STARTED YESTERDAY. I HAVE READ PAGE AFTER PAGE OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME THING HAPPENING ON THIS MODEL YEAR MAKE OF CAR. I HAVE HAD TO TAKE MY CAR IN FOR SEVERAL RECALLS BUT I HAVE NOT SEEN ONE ON THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE. MY CAR HAS 138,000 MILES ON IN IT AND OF COURSE THIS HAPPENS WHILE IT IS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY ROAD STREET ETC. IT COULD NOT HAPPEN IF THE CAR WAS NOT IN MOTION. THIS IS A SCARY THING TO BE DRIVING YOUR VEHICLE AND PRAY YOUR GOING TO MAKE IT TO WHERE YOU ARE GOING WITHOUT A CRASH.
I RECENTLY BOUGHT THIS CAR AT A BUY HERE PAY HERE AND AFTER ONE SAY THE POWER STEERING WENT COMPLETELY OUT ON THE VEHICLE. I RESEARCHED AND FOUND A RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING UNITY BUT DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS EXPIRED?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED, THE BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT PART OF A RECALL AND THAT THE CONTACT HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 152,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL LOST POWER. THE ESC/POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN MERGED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND POWERED OFF AND RESTARTED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 79,800.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE ESC LIGHT WITH SERVICE POWER STEERING CAME ON AND MY POWER STEERING TURNED OFF ALMOST CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.
FAILED NJ DMV INSPECTION, ENGINE ICON,PO714,715 EMISSIONS CODES. CORRECTED AND ICON WENT OFF. 5 DAYS LATER, WHILE STOPPED AT LIGHT, TRANSMISSION LOST FORWARD, 2 DAYS LATER, LOST REVERSE. CODES PO716 CAME UP. CAR IS A CALIFORNIA PVEC COVERED FOR A LONG LIST OF FAILED PARTS, 53,000 MILES, 8 YRS OLD, COVERED I THOUGHT FOR 15 YRS/150,000 FOR TRANS FAILURE DUE TO EXACTLY THIS HISTORY. DEALER NEW TRANS $4000, DENIED IT WAS DUE TO COVERED PARTS. REMOVED AND EXAMINED TRANS, SHOWED METAL, "FROM WAVE PLATE LIKELY". THEREFORE NOT COVERED, PER DEALER. SERVICE MGR SAID HAS SEEN FAILURES IN LOWER MILEAGE THAN THIS. I AM ASKED TO PAY FOR BREAK DOWN OF TRANS TO DIAGNOSE UNCOVERED REPAIR, ADMITTEDLY A 2-3 HOUR JOB. DECIDED TO NOT REPAIR, SELL FOR SALVAGE. LEASE ANOTHER CAR FROM DEALER HOPING FOR A BETTER OUTCOME DOWN THE LINE.
THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING ON THE CHEVY MALIBU 2009 DISENGAGES ITSELF WHILE CAR IS IN MOTION CAUSING LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST, THAT OCCUR ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING AND SOMETIME LOCKS ITSELF IN. WHEN POWER STEERING IS LOST, GREATER DRIVER EFFORT S REQUIRED TO STEER THE VEHICLE, INCREASING RISK OF CRASHING. THIS HAPPENED TO ME WHILE ON A HIGHWAY, AND HAS COMPLETELY LOST POWER STEERING.
THE DRIVER'S SEAT IS A POWER SEAT AND, WHILE I KEEP THE SEAT IN THE LOWEST POSITION, MY WIFE NEEDS THE SEAT UP HIGHER. WHEN RAISING THE SEAT, SHE NOTICED THAT THE SEAT WAS GOING UP CROOKED AND WAS NOT SUPPORTING PROPERLY ON THE SIDE NEAREST THE CENTER OF THE VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I NOTICED THAT THE SEAT FRAME HAD BROKEN NEAR A WELD, BUT NOT ON THE WELD. INSTEAD, A PIECE OF THE STRUCTURAL TUBING THAT WAS WELDED BETWEEN BOTH SIDES OF THE FRAMEWORK HAD ACTUALLY RIPPED, LIKE A STRESS FAILURE. I PULLED THE SEAT OUT OF THE CAR AND TOOK PICTURES OF THE FAILURE ON THE FRONT. I THEN NOTICED THAT THE REAR TUBING WAS ALSO SPLIT/CRACKED NEAR THE WELD. THE SEAT NO LONGER FEELS SOLIDLY MOUNTED, ESPECIALLY WHEN IN THE RAISED POSITION. THE BAR ACTUALLY SEPARATES WHEN RAISING THE SEAT AND MOVES AROUND WHEN WEIGHT IS APPLIED. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ON THE INTERNET, I COULD FIND NO SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, WHICH SURPRISED ME VERY MUCH, GIVEN THE NATURE OF THE FAILURE. I BELIEVE, IN AN ACCIDENT, THAT THE DRIVER SEAT WOULD NOT BE HELD IN IT'S NORMAL POSITION PROPERLY AND COULD INJURE SOMEONE MORE SEVERELY THAN THE ACCIDENT MIGHT CAUSE ON ITS OWN. I DID FIND NUMEROUS OTHER REPORTS ON VARIOUS FORUMS ABOUT PEOPLE WITH THE SAME TYPE OF FAILURE. IN FACT, ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE POSTED PICTURES AND THE TUBING FAILED ALMOST IDENTICALLY TO MINE, WITH A LARGE PIECE STILL ATTACHED TO THE BRACKET BY THE WELD. I DO NOT KNOW EXACTLY WHEN THE BREAK STARTED, BUT IT HAS MOST CERTAINLY GOTTEN WORSE OVER TIME. MY WIFE HAS BEEN THE PRIMARY DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE FOR THE LAST YEAR OR SO, BUT I DROVE IT FOR SEVERAL YEARS BEFORE THAT. THE SEAT HARDLY EVER GOT MOVED WHEN I WAS THE ONLY DRIVER. MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER NOTICED THE SEAT LEANING WHEN IN THE RAISED POSITION, WHICH PROMPTED MY INVESTIGATION. IT APPEARS TO BE A POORLY ENGINEERED FRAMEWORK ASSEMBLY AND SHOULD BE RECALLED.
WHILE DRIVING SERVICE ESC LIGHT WOULD COME ON FOLLOWED BY POWER STEERING LIGHT. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD BECOME DIFFICULTY TO TURN. I WOULD TURN INTO A SAFE PLACE TURN THE VEHICLE OFF FOR A MINUTE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD WORK FINE. THIS WILL HAPPEN OFF AND ON AT DIFFERENT TIMES. THE SERVICE ESC LIGHT COME ON FOLLOWED BY POWER STEERING AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKING UP MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO TURN ALL THIS WILL HAPPEN WHILE I'M DRIVING SCARED THE DAY LIGHTS OUT OF ME EVERY TIME IT WOULD HAPPEN. BEING LOOKING AROUND TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE AS FAR AS THIS GOES. WILL HAPPEN EVERY TIME I'M IN MOTION ON CITY STREET OR INTERSTATE VERY SCARY AS I'M A FEMALE DRIVING THIS CAR 2009 CHEVY MAILBU LTZ 4CYL THIS HAS BEING GOING ON FOR MONTHS NOW STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON THE VEHICLE STARTED PURCHASING IT IN 2017 NOT SURE OF THE EXACT TIME IT STARTED
I HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AS OTHERS (SEE COMPLAINT IDS BELOW FOR REFERENCE). MINE STARTED AT AT 104,740 MILES - VERY SIMILAR TO EVER OTHER PERSON. THE DEALER SAYS THEY TOO BELIEVE EXACTLY WHAT I DESCRIBE BELOW FITS THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH WAVE PLATE SERVICE BULLETIN (WHICH I HOPE WILL BE COVERED BUT DO NOT THINK IT WILL BASED ON WHAT I SEE ON MY GM OWNER CENTER ACCOUNT AND MY VIN NUMBER'HOPE I'M WRONG, I TAKE IT INTO THE DEALER IN THE MORNING AGAIN!) WHEN I ACCELERATED FROM A STOP AROUND THIRD GEAR THE VEHICLE'S RPMS SLAMMED UP TO AROUND 7K AND THEN AROUND FIFTH GEAR (I THINK AROUND 55 MPH) IT SLIPPED AGAIN, WHEN I WENT TO SLOW DOWN IT HUNG ON THE WAY DOWN. THEN, WHEN I PULLED INTO THE LEFT TURN LANE THE CAR WENT INTO "LIMP" MODE (THINK MICHIGAN UTURN). I THEN THOUGHT TO MYSELF, I SHOULD TRY SHUTTING IT OFF WHEN THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME STOPS BECAUSE I DON'T WANT MORE ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. SO, I DID AND THAT'S WHEN IT WOULDN'T SHIFT AGAIN INTO DRIVE NOR GO INTO REVERSE (WASN'T EXPECTING THAT). WHEN I WAS IN THE LEFT HAND TURN LANE IT CAUSED TRAFFIC TO BACKUP ONTO THE HIGHWAY (55MPH), NOT ONLY PUTTING MYSELF IN DANGER BUT EVERY PERSON BEHIND ME THAT ATTEMPTED TO PASS ME (I WAS ON MY WAY TO CHURCH'AND SO WERE 2,500 OTHER ATTENDEES). THANKFULLY A POLICE OFFICER CAME UNTIL THE WRECKER ARRIVED (1 HOUR LATER)'BUT UNTIL THE OFFICER ARRIVED (TOOK ABOUT 20 MIN.)'FOLKS WERE MAKING SOME VERY 'GUTSY' MOVES TO GET AROUND ME. A FEW DAYS AGO WHILE PICKING UP MY SON FROM SCHOOL THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO LIGHTLY VIBRATE. AS OF THIS EVENING, I WENT TO START UP THE CAR AND NOW THE DISPLAY SAYS POWER STEERING ESC AND THE WHEEL IS EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE STEERING ABILITY SEIZED AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT SLOWED DONN TO A COMPLETE STOP ON THE SHOULDER. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
I HAVE A 2009 CHEVY MALIBU 4 CYL WITH ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. IT IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AS THE REST OF THE RECALLED MALIBU'S BUT MINE IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT FLASHED SHUTS OFF THE TRACTION CONTROL AND LOSES POWER STEERING WHILE GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY
WHILE TURNING (IN MOTION) THROUGH A PARKING LOT AFTER EXITING THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE JERKED, AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED (IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE). THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE THEN DISPLAYED: SERVICE ESC POWER STEERING.
I HAVE FILED COMPLAINT BEFORE. DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN WORKING ON IT. IT HAS SET IDLE NOW FOR 2 WEEKS. MESSAGES SERVICE ESC -SERVICE STAB.-BRAKES LIGHTS STAY ON-RPMS ESCALATES AND CAR CHUGS DOWN. I HAVE HAD TO DEALERSHIPS 7 TIMES AND INDEPENDENT MECHANIC 1 TIME. HAVE TALKED TO GM NUMEROUS TIMES. FINALLY TALKED TO [XXX]-HE HAD REAL GOOD ADVICE-TRADE IT OFF-LET SOME OTHER SUCKER HAVE THE PROBLEM-HE WILL ALLOW ME $2,500 GM CUSTOMER LOYALTY REBATE ON NEW CAR(GM). THE POWER STEERING ASSIST (EPS) RANDOMLY STOPS WORKING. THE CAR MUST BE RESTARTED SEVERAL TIMES TO GET IT WORKING AGAIN. THIS DEFECT APPEARS TO BE COVERED UNDER RECALL #N140115, SPECIFICALLY BULLETIN #14116. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. I WEIGH 100 POUNDS (WHICH IS ABOVE THE THRESHOLD FOR WHAT SHOULD TRIGGER THE AIRBAG TO BE ON) AND ABOUT HALF THE TIME THE AIRBAG IS DISABLED WHEN I AM SITTING IN THE SEAT PROPERLY WITH MY FEET ON THE GROUND AND THE CHAIR UPRIGHT. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET TO HAVE THEM REIMBURSE THE COST OF FIXING THIS ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND HAS CAUSED RECALLS IN OTHER CHEVROLET CARS, BUT THEY HAVE REFUSED TO INVESTIGATE. THE SENSOR MALFUNCTION DOESN'T SEEM TO BE CORRELATED WITH WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY, IN MOTION, ON A STREET OR HIGHWAY, ETC. IT HAPPENS ABOUT HALF OF THE TIME AND CAN SOMETIMES GO ON AND OFF DURING THE SAME CAR TRIP EVEN IF I STAY IN THE SAME POSITION THE WHOLE TIME.
