DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE DASH LIGHT WILL JUST GO OFF AND ON, THE POWER DOOR LOCKS STOP WORKING THE POWER WINDOWS STOP WORKING THE RADIO WILL JUST TURN ON WHEN IT WANTS TO AND THE VOLUME CONTROL WILL NOT WORK SO WHEN IT TURNS ON ITS AT THE PEAK VOLUME. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. CHEVROLET WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. ITS PAST ITS WARRANTY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD DOWN SHIFT WHILE ACCELERATING. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY DECELERATE. IN ORDER TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE BACK INTO ITS PROPER GEAR, THE CONTACT HAD TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO MANUAL MODE AND USE THE OPTIONAL PEDAL SHIFTS. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS NOT BEING DEPRESSED AND THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL LIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BODY CONTROL MODULE MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE BRAKE LIGHTS TURN ON. IF I TOUCH THE BREAKS THEY GO OFF. THIS HAPPENS MOST OFTEN WHEN IT RAINS, SNOWS OR IF DRIVING WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING ON. THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPS WORKING AT THE SAME TIME. I HAVE HAD THIS INTO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP ON THREE OCCASIONS WHERE I HAVE BEEN TOLD "WE HAVE TO EXPERIENCE THIS IN ORDER TO CORRECT IT." I AM AWARE THAT MANY OTHER MALIBU VEHICLES EXPERIENCE THIS AS THERE HAVE BEEN RUMORS OF THIS BECOMING A RECALL FOR MANY MONTHS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A COUPLE YEARS FOR MY CAR AND I WAS UNDER WARRANTY WHEN I HAD IT IN AND NOT CORRECTED. I TRY NOT TO THINK ABOUT IT NOW THAT IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT BECAUSE I AM EXPECTING MY FIRST CHILD AND THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN I AM BECOMING MORE WORRIED. WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO GET THIS CORRECTED? HOW COULD THEY PROVE THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS DIDN'T COME ON WHEN SOMEONE STOPPED TO TURN AND THEN WAS HIT? PLEASE HELP! *TR
TL*THE DRIVER OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH WHEN HE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND THE DRIVER COULD NO LONGER CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIE ROD DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 33,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CONDENSER FAILED TWICE WITHIN A TWO MONTH PERIOD. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURED, THE AIR CONDITIONER WOULD BLOW WARM AIR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PART WAS NOT PROTECTED FROM ROAD DEBRIS AND WOULD CONTINUE TO FAIL WHEN IT WAS STRUCK BY DEBRIS. THE CONTACT BELEIVED THE FAILURE TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,011 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGED. THIRD BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON. WOULD NOT GO OFF. AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME ( 30 MINUTES OR SO ) THE BRAKE LIGHT WENT OFF. PEOPLE HAVE TOLD US NUMEROUS TIMES WE HAD NO BRAKE LIGHTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED A LOT OF TIMES SINCE THEN. DEALER SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG.
THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SHOWS OFF WHEN THE SEAT IS OCCUPIED. ALL PASSENGERS ARE 110 LB AND ABOVE. THIS HAPPENS LESS THAN HALF THE TIME. MY MOTHER HAS A 2007 EQUINOX WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WORKED ON IT AND THEN REPLACED THE SEAT SENSOR BUT AFTER A SHORT TIME IT STARTED AGAIN, ABOUT THREE QUARTERS OF THE TIME IT SHOWS OFF. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. IN ADDITION, THE GEAR SHIFTER WOULD NOT REMAIN IN PARK. ON ONE OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND ROLLED AWAY, CRASHING INTO A CONCRETE BARRIER. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED WHO MADE HER AWARE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER A NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V073000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT) AND ADVISED HER TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 61,000.
VEHICLE WOULD NOT RECOGNIZE THAT VEHICLE WAS IN PARK. *TR
INTERMITTENTLY, THE BRAKE LIGHT WILL COME ON AND REMAIN LIT SOLIDLY UNTIL THE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, THEN IT GOES OFF -- ACTING OPPOSITE OF THE WAY IT SHOULD. AT NIGHT, THE LIGHT IS VISIBLE IN THE REAR-VIEW MIRROR AND WE CAN SEE IT COME ON. WE THEN DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WILL REMAIN ON TAIL LIGHTS ONLY FOR A FEW MINUTES, THEN IT GLOWS BRIGHTLY AGAIN AS THOUGH THE DRIVER WERE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON TAIL LIGHTS ONLY, THE BRAKE LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE CORRECTLY WHEN THE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED AND THE BRAKES APPEAR TO BE EFFECTIVE. THERE IS AN OCCASIONAL "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" AND "SERVICE ESC" LIGHT THAT APPEARS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. WHEN THE FAULT CODES ARE SCANNED WITH AN ABS BRAKING SYSTEM CODE READER, IT YIELDS A C-0131 ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM PRESSURE CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION. THIS PROBLEM SEEMS PRETTY PREVALENT WITH LATE MODEL CHEVROLET VEHICLES FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET, BUT THE REPAIR PROCEDURE IS NOT CLEAR TO ANYONE WHO IS EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. SOME SAY THAT IT IS A $1,000.00+ DEALER REPAIR ITEM AND THAT THE PROBLEM TENDS TO OCCUR AT THE END OF THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY PERIOD, JUST LIKE OURS DID. IT IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING AND DISTRACTING TO OTHER DRIVERS, SOME OF WHOM PULL ALONGSIDE AND SAY THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT IS WORKING "OPPOSITE" OF THE WAY IT SHOULD. THE BRAKES SEEM EFFECTIVE, BUT IN CASE OF A LOSS OF TRACTION, SKID, ETC., I AM NOT SURE WHAT THE RESULT MIGHT BE TO THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL OR THE TRACTION CONTROL -- BOTH OF WHICH WE KEEP TURNED OFF TO MINIMIZE ANY PROBLEM UNTIL I CAN LOCATE AN APPROPRIATE FIX. IT SEEMS THAT A RECALL OF THESE VEHICLES IS IN ORDER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, ANOTHER DRIVER INFORMED HER THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS NOT ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
IN MARCH, 2011, I BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE DOORS NOT OPENING FROM THE INSIDE. I UNHOOKED THE BATTERY TERMINAL TO RESET THE COMPUTER THEN THE WINDOWS STARTED WORKING AGAIN. IN APRIL MY DRIVER'S WINDOW WOULD NOT GO UP. I REPLACED THE 30A FUSE AND GOT THE WINDOW TO GO UP. ONCE I TRIED TO USE ONE OF THE OTHER WINDOWS, THE FUSE BLEW AGAIN. NOW MY WINDOWS WILL NOT GO UP OR DOWN WITHOUT BLOWING A FUSE. THE SWITCH IN THE DRIVER'S DOOR WAS REPLACED AND THE RELAY WAS REPLACED WITH NO RESOLUTION. MY WINDOWS WILL NOT WORK AT ALL AND YESTERDAY, JULY 19, MY DOORS BEGAN ACTING UP AGAIN AND WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. I FEEL LIKE I'M GOING TO GET TRAPPED INSIDE THIS VEHICLE. *KB
VEHICLES TIRE RIGHT SIDE RODS FAILED AT 45880 WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY 3/4/11. COMPLAINED TO DEALER ABOUT NOISE FROM RIGHT SIDE OF CAR AT 50K DEALER CLAIMED THERE WAS NO NOISE HOWEVER DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS AT THE TIME (RAINING) THEY WOULD NEED TO SEE VEHICLE ON A DRY DAY. VEHICLE IN SHOP NOW WITH 64000 ALMOST 1YR LATER RIGHT SIDE TIRE RODS NEED REPLACING AGAIN. THIS IS MY SECOND CHEVY MALIBU AND I AM NOT HAPPY. DOUBT I WILL PURCHASE CHEVY AGAIN!!! *TR
HAVE TOLD THE DEALERSHIP OF THESE PROBLEMS WITH THE SERVICE AIRBAG AND SERVICE TRACTION. ALSO I SENT AN EMAIL TO THE CHEVROLET HEADQUARTERS AND RECEIVED A CALL FROM THEM TELLING ME THAT IT WAS MY REPAIR NOT THEIR FAULT. THIS PAST FRIDAY THE 20TH I TOOK THE CAR AGAIN TO THE DEALERSHIP AS THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON CONSTANTLY FOR THE PAST TWO WEEKS. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE MODULE WAS BAD AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $250.00 DOLLARS ( MY DEDUCTIBLE SINCE I HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, PAID EXTRA FOR THAT WHEN WE BOUGHT THE CAR). HOW CAN A MODULE BE BAD ON A 2 YEAR OLD CAR IS THE ISSUE I AM HAVING AND WHY I HAVE TO PAY TO FIX/REPLACE IT. I COULD UNDERSTAND IF THE CAR WAS OLDER, BUT FEEL ANYTHING ELECTRONIC THAT GOES WRONG WITH A CAR TODAY NOW FALLS ON THE CONSUMER.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED AT THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE POWER STEERING MOTOR. THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE POWER STEERING MOTOR YET THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE STEERING CONTINUED TO FAIL WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.

THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN: 14V252000 (BRAKES, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL) EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE DELAY. THE CONTACT HAD EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENTLY MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
STEERING IN 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU IS ERRATIC AT BEST AT TIMES EVEN SITTING PERFECTLY STILL THE STEERING WHEEL WILL MOVE ERRATICALLY BACK AND FORTH AS IF THE CAR WAS TRYING TO STEER ITSELF. THIS SEEMS INHERENTLY DANGEROUS AS IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED MY WIFE TO CHANGE LANES ABRUPTLY. *TR

ONCE IN THE FALL AND ONCE ABOUT 7 DAYS AGO. PREVIOUSLY (SUMMER 20101) THE POWER WINDOWS WOULD NOT FUNCTION - DEALER STATED IT WAS A PINCHED WIRE. I ALSO NOTICED A FEW WEEKS BACK THE INSTRUMENTS COULD NOT BE READ DURING THE DAY W/OUT TURNING ON THE HEADLIGHTS.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT FOR HER TO MANEUVER. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS THAT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT SHE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE STEERING TORQUE INPUT SENSOR. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 108,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE RECENTLY EXPERIENCED ELECTRICAL FAILURES WITH THE POWER WINDOWS AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO OPEN OR SHUT THE POWER WINDOWS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A SHORTAGE IN THE WIRE ON THE DRIVER SIDE PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
LETTER FROM SENATOR BURR ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT CONCERNING PROBLEMS WITH HER 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU: SHE FEELS IT A PRIME CANDIDATE FOR GM TO RECLAIM UNDER PROVISIONS OF THE NORTH CAROLINA LEMON LAW *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED ON SECOND DAY OF OWNERSHIP, THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR DEFECTIVE PARTS AND REMAINED THERE FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS. SINCE THEN, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN RETURNED SEVERAL TIMES FOR DEFECTS RELATING TO THE ENGINE, COMPUTER, AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING ON MOUNTAINOUS OR HILLY TERRAINS THE ENGINE WOULD SLOW DOWN DRAMATICALLY. *JB

THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH, THE STEERING COLUMN, AND THE PARKING BRAKE WIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

I HAVE AN 2009 CHEVY MALIBU AND THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AND IT WILL SHAKE AT A STOP LIGHT AND WHILE IM DRIVING . MFG PART # 20907865 AT 24,079 MILES THE RIGHT FRONT HUB BEARING WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. MFG PART # 20907865 THIS 2009 CHEV. MALIBU HAS NEVER BEEN IN SALT OR ANY OTHER CORROSIVES EXCEPT WHAT IS IN THE NORMAL DRIVING ENVIRONMENT. THIS CAR HAS THE V- 6 ENGINE. I HAVE OWNED SINCE NEW. *TR
LAST WINTER I HAD TO REPAIR THE HEATER, SWITCHING FROM HOT TO COLD, CAUSING WINDOWS TO FOG UP AND ICE, MY HEATER IS NOW DOING IT AGAIN. SUMMER TIME THE AIR WORKS FINE AS SOON AS COLD SEASON STARTS IT FREEZES UP IN THE COLD SETTING. YOU CAN HERE A SOUND LIKE THE VENT IS SUCKING AIR NOT FULLY SWITCHING TO THE HOT SETTING. *TR
BRAKE LIGHTS COME ONE WHEN DRIVING AND BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT PRESSED. BRAKE LIGHTS GO OFF WHEN BRAKES ARE PRESSED. BEEN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES AND THEY PUT SOME GEL ON THE BCM CONNECTION AS PER A SAFETY BULLETIN FROM GM . IT FIXED PROBLEM FOR A WEEK . PROBLEM HAS RETURNED 4 TIMES NOW . I THINK NHTSA SHOULD TAKE MY CAR TO THE TEST TRACK AND PROVE THAT A SAFETY RECALL SHOULD BE MADE ON THIS VEHICLE. NHTSA DID ONCE PRIOR TAKE MY CHEVY TAHOE 1997 TO THE TEST TRACK AND PROVED THAT GM HAD INDEED HAD AN ELECTRONIC ISSUE. SO PLEASE COME GET MY CAR AND TEST THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH OR BCM . FIRST BRAND NEW CAR I EVER PURCHASED FOR MYSELF- A BEAUTIFUL 2009 MALIBU. WITHIN LESS THAN 2 YEARS OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR STARTED LOCKING/UNLOCKING WHEN IT WANTED TO. IT WASN'T LONG BEFORE IT STOPPED UN/LOCKING ALL TOGETHER AND I WAS STUCK HAVING TO CRAWL ACROSS FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE. I PAID A PRETTY PENNY TO HAVE IT FIXED AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT. AFTER FIXING THE SAME PROBLEM BUT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR THIS TIME WHICH THE DOOR WAS RARELY USED BECAUSE IT WAS JUST MYSELF AND MY DAUGHTER WHO RIDES IN THE BACKSEAT AND PAYING OUT OF POCKET AGAIN AND IT HAPPENING A 2ND TIME THAT MY PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT EVEN UNLOCK TO OPEN AGAIN. ALL OF MY PASSENGERS HAVE TO RIDE IN THE BACK SEAT OR CRAWL ACROSS FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE AND NOW MY BACK PASSENGER SIDE DOOR IS STARTING THE SAME THING. ONE TIME ,MY HUSBAND GOT THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR UNLOCKED AND IT FLEW OPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND WOULDN'T CLOSE OR LOCK FOR SOMETIME. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN JUNE 2010 AND THE FIRST THING TO HAPPEN WAS THE BATTERY EXPLODED IN 09/2010. A FEW MONTHS LATER A MY CAR WAS BROKEN INTO BECAUSE I DID NOT REALIZE THAT WHEN I LOCK MY DOORS THAT ALL LOCKS BUT 1. THE NEXT THING THAT HAPPEND WAS THE FRONT HEAD LIGHT SHORTED OUT, NOT THE ACTUAL HEAD LIGHT BUT THE SOCKET THAT THE LIGHT GOES INTO AND THAT HAPPEND AROUND 03/2012. AROUND JANUARY 2013 I WAS STOPPED BESIDE MY DAUGHTER SCHOOL AND A MAN PULLED OVER AND TOLD ME THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS HAD BEEN ON FOR A FEW MILES. I DID NOT REALIZE THIS AND COULD NOT SEE THIS UNLESS I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT. I RARELY DRIVE AT NIGHT BUT WHEN I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT I NOTICED WHEN YOU GET TO A CERTAIN SPEED THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL COME ON AND AND THEN GO OFF IF YOU TAP THE BRAKE AND THEN COME BACK ON AND STAY ON UNTIL WHENEVER THEY DECIDE TO GO OFF. SOMETIMES THEY WILL BE ON WHEN YOU CRANK UP THE CAR. IT CONCERNS ME BECAUSE WHAT IF THEY BRAKE LIGHT FAIL ALL TOGETHER. IT SEEMS LIKE THERE IS SOME KIND OF ELETRICAL MALFUNTION WITH THIS CAR. 2009 MALIBU BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON WHILE DRIVING THEN WHEN I PRESS MY BRAKES THE LIGHTS WOULD GO OFF NO ONE KNEW WHEN I WAS USING MY BRAKES. THIS WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION WHEN I WAS ON A MAJOR HWY/SPEED LIMIT 70 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN TRAFFIC WAS STOPPING. THE CARS BEHIND ME WERE COMING AT A HIGH SPEED, BUT LUCKILY THE CAR DIRECTLY BEHIND ME JUST SHORT OF CRASHING INTO MY REAR MISSED ME. . HE GOT OUT OF HIS CAR WHILE THE TRAFFIC WAS STOPPED AND APPROACHED ME TO LET ME KNOW I HAD NO BREAK LIGHTS AND HE ALSO NOTICED THAT PRIOR TO STOPPING MY BREAK LIGHTS WERE ON. IN THE MEANTIME I HAD WARNINGS POP UP ON MY CAR SERVICE TRACTION/ESC SERVICE. WELL OF COURSE, MY CAR WAS TAKEN TO A SHOP WHERE IT SHOWED A BREAK SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND SWITCH BRAKE NEEDED TO BE CALIBRATED BY THE DEALERSHIP. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE BREAK SWITCH FAILED WHEN THEY PERFORMED BRAKE POSITION CALIBRATION. THE GENTLEMEN SAID THAT THE SWITCH COULD BE BAD EVEN THOU IT WAS A NEW ONE THAT WAS PURCHASED FROM THE DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED IT AGAIN AND RE-CALIBRATED AND AFTERWARDS SAID EVERYTHING WORKS WELL. WITHIN TWO WEEKS THE PROBLEM WITH BREAKS ARE STILL THERE. THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WE HAVE WITH THE 2009 MALIBU. I?M JUST LUCKY I?M STILL ALIVE. WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR WILL APPEAR TO THINK THAT THE BRAKES ARE BEING APPLIED. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL ALL ACTIVATE, AND CRUISE CONTROL WILL CEASE WORKING. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, THE BRAKE LIGHTS TURN OFF. THE BRAKES STILL STOP THE CAR, BUT THE LIGHTS AND CRUISE CONTROL APPEAR TO BE NOT CALIBRATED TO THE BRAKE SENSOR. ALSO, SOMETIMES 3 WARNINGS APPEAR IN THE DASH DISPLAY: ESC OFF, SERVICE ESC, AND SERVICE TRACTION, THOUGH IT IS NOT NECESSARY FOR THE PROBLEM TO OCCUR. THIS HAPPENS VERY INTERMITTENTLY, BUT ONCE IT STARTS, IT USUALLY DOESN'T GO AWAY. I'VE HAD THE PROBLEM REPAIRED ABOUT 6 TIMES, BUT IT KEEPS COMING BACK. ON JUNE 29, 2010 MY SON WAS ABLE TO BYPASS THE SAFETY LOCK SWITCH ON OUR 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU....WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON JUNE 30 AND HAD THE SWITCH REPLACED ALONG WITH A DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HANDLE MY WIFE PULLED OFF THE DOOR IN A FRANTIC FRENZY TO TRY TO STOP HIM. ON JULY 8TH WHILE TIGHTENING DOWN MY CHILD'S CAR SEAT, MY SON AGAIN WAS ABLE TO BYPASS THE SAFETY SWITCH BY TURNING THE KEY TO THE ACC MODE OF THE IGNITION AND PUSHING THE BUTTON ON THE SHIFTER, HE THEN STARTED THE CAR AND BEGAN DRAGGING ME ACROSS A PARKING LOT INTO A CEMENT LIGHT POLE. WHEN WE CALLED GM TO INFORM THEM THAT THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY CONCERN THAT CHILDREN CAN BYPASS THIS SWITCH, THEY INFORMED US THE VEHICLE ISN'T DESIGNED FOR A TWO YEAR OLD!!!!!! THEY ALSO REFERRED US TO THE OWNERS MANUAL CLAIMING THAT THIS IS A DINGHY TOWING OPTION. IN THAT SECTION IT TELLS YOU TO PLACE THE PARKING BRAKE ON. IN THREE OTHER AREAS THE BOOK CLAIMS THAT YOU MUST PUSH THE BRAKE TO GET THE SHIFTER TO MOVE FROM PARK. MY SON NEVER TOUCHED THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND THE CAR CAME OUT OF PARK AND BEGAN TO MOVE... WHILE I UNDERSTAND THAN MY CHILD IS WELL BELOW DRIVING AGE, I DO BELIEVE THAT GM HAS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM HERE. SAFETY INCIDENT:TRANSMISSION GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR SETTING: PARKED IN TOM THUMB GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT. NOSE TO NOSE WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE (WITH NO PARKING CURB BETWEEN). INCIDENT: I STARTED THE CAR AND THE CAR BEGAN TO CREEP FORWARD, WHILE STILL IN PARK. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. I RESTARTED CAR. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. I STARTED CAR A THIRD TIME, THIS TIME WITH LEFT FOOT FIRMLY ON BRAKE, AND MY RIGHT FOOT READY TO USE GAS PEDAL. I PUT CAR INTO REVERSE AND THE CAR STILL INCHED FORWARD. I TURNED OFF IGNITION AND PUT ON EMERGENCY BRAKE. BY NOW, THERE WAS VERY LITTLE ROOM LEFT BETWEEN MY CAR AND THE ONE PARKED ACROSS FROM IT. SO I GAVE UP AND CALLED FOR A RIDE. THEY SAID GM HAS TIED THEIR HANDS AND THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE OF LIABILITY ISSUES AND FEARS. WE CONTACTED GM AND THEY CREATED A CASE STATING THAT WE HAD A VERY GOOD CASE AND THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. TOOK CAR INTO SHOP OVER A YEAR AGO BECAUSE BAD ODORS WERE COMING OUT OF THE CABIN AIR SUPPLY. THE CHEVROLET SHOP CLEANED OUT THE A/C - TOOK CAR BACK 8-9 MONTHS LATER, SMELLY ODORS COMING FROM AIR VENTS IN CAR. THEY CANNOT FIX - THESE CARS ARE NOT EQUIPPED WITH CABIN AIR FILTERS...IN 2009 BUT - ARE NOW IN 2012. I HAD BRONCHITIS AND NEAR PNEUMONIA FOR A YEAR AND A HALF. A MONTH AGO, I WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE ASTHMA. THESE HEALTH ISSUES ARE SERIOUS - I'M 64. I NOW NEED INHALERS, ETC. THE CAR SEEMS NOW TO FUNCTION OKAY WITH THE INSIDE A/C BUTTONS BUT THE FUMES ARE THERE WITHOUT THESE BUTTONS. I'LL AGAIN NEED HEAT IN THE WINTER AND SUSPECT THE PROBLEM TO RETURN. ALSO, I DON'T ALWAYS NEED A/C BUT HAVE TO DRIVE WITH THE WINDOWS UP BECAUSE OF THE HORRID NORTHERN VA TRAFFIC. THERE IS NO WORK AROUND AND I CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RIMS CRACKED AND CAUSED THE TIRES TO DEFLATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN VERIFIED THE FAILURE AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE RIM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE RIMS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. WHEN YOU PUSH ON THE PEDAL THE LIGHTS GO OUT. WHILE ON THE SPEED CONTROL WILL NOT WORK. SEVERAL OTHER ISSUES WITH THE BCM. GM ANNOUNCED A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE ON MAY 15, 2014 BUT THE NHTSA WEBSITE LETTER ON THAT DATE LETTER NVS-215KS / 14V-252 STATED THAT GM MUST NOTIFY THE OWNERS WITHIN 60 DAYS. IT HAS BEEN 60 DAYS AND THERE HAS NOT BEEN A NOTIFICATION. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP UNDER WARRANTY APPROX. 5 TIMES AND I HAVE HAD TO ALSO REPAIR THE SAME ISSUE. NOW THE CAR IS NOT DRIVE ABLE BECAUSE IF I PLACE IT IN PARK IT WILL NOT GO IN REVERSE. THIS IS ALSO DUE TO THE SAME BCM PROBLEM. IF THEY (GM) HAS 60 DAYS, WHY HAVE THEY NOT RECALLED THIS VEHICLE? I TOOK IT TO THE GM DEALER AND GAVE THEM THE RECALL NUMBER FOUND ON THE INTERNET AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE NO INFORMATION ABOUT IT. HOW CAN I GET THIS INFORMATION BUT THEIR OWN DEALERS CAN'T. *TR
