Recently I was almost rear-ended a few times and got curious as to why?? Well yesterday I was following my 2010 Chevy Malibu in another car and noticed that my brake lights stay on when I'm driving and go off when I brake. Very dangerous! I have read other complaints regarding this issue and I think a recall needs to be issued on these cars. It had also disabled my cruise control.
Brake lights illuminate without being pressed. Service ESC and Service Traction Control lights intermittently comes on. Dealer said recall issues has already been fixed.
I purchase the 2010 Chevy malibu, 6/2013. The service traction lights comes on periodically until I am forced to take it in for service. I had to take the car in for this same problem at least 4 times, more or less, also the last time I took the car in, the technician was not able to reset the sensors. A more seasoned tech had to reset the sensors. I am filing a report, because this cost me money every time I take it to the dealer and it is certain a safety issue for me to continue to drive the car with the service traction light coming on and off and stationary at times. It appears to be a defect in the auto system. I should not be required to have to take the car in every year for the same problem and putting myself and others at risk. The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the vehicle loss control while driving at various speeds without warning. After taking the vehicle to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing, the contact replaced the struts, the axles, and inner tie rods himself however, the failure persisted. The contact then took the vehicle to a dealer where they linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14E044000 (Steering) however, the Vin was not under recall. The contact paid out of pocket to have the u-joints replaced however, the repair did not fix the failure. The contact returned the vehicle to the dealer where it remained. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100,000.
WENT TO DEALER TO GET A PREVIOUS RECALL THAT WAS FIXED BUT HAS SINCE THEN FAILED AGAIN AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL INVOLVED THE BRAKE SYSTEM WHERE BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATE WHILE DRIVING BUT NOT WHEN ACTUALLY PRESSING ON BRAKES.
WHILE DRIVING THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL BE SET AND ALL OF A SUDDEN TURN OFF. THE GAUGES ON THE DASH WOULD SPORATICALLY JUMP UP AND DOWN AND SOMETIMES FLATLINE AS IF THE CAR WAS OFF. WHEN BRAKING THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD ENGAGE IF MY HAND PRESSED THE BUTTON LLOCATED ON THE STEERING WHEEL CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SPEED UP WHILE TRYING TO SLOW DOWN. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD BE ON WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKES AND WOULD TURN ON ONCE BRAKES WERE PRESSED. RECALL WORK WAS REPORTED TO BE COMPLETED JANUARY 2015 BUT PROBLEMS STILL PERSIST. THERE IS ALSO A BULLETIN FOR SPECIAL COVERAGE THAT IS LIMITED TO 150,000 MILES WHICH I DON'T RECIEVE BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS OVER THAT MILEAGE BUT THE DANGERS OF THE VEHICLE STILL PERSIST. THESE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN PRESENT SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR 2 OR 3 YEARS AGO. THE LAST INCIDENT HAPPENED JUST 2 DAYS AGO. I CANTACTED CHEVY AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T COVER IT BECAUSE OF THE MILES.
WHEN MAKING A TURN AT ANY SPEED, THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT AND THE DASH SAYS "POWER STEERING - ESC SERVICE". TURNING OFF THE CAR AND WAITING A MINUTE TEMPORARILY FIXED THE ISSUE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE REAR BRAKE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD FAIL TO ILLUMINATE AS NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SPITZER CHEVROLET (33 E AURORA RD, NORTHFIELD, OH 44067) WHO ATTACHED THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE BCM WITH A SPACER AND APPLIED DI-ELECTRIC LUBRICANT TO THE BCM AND HARNESS CONNECTOR HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE SAME FAILURE SEVERAL TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,281.
UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, A "POWER STEERING" WARNING DISPLAYS ON THE DASH AND THE POWER STEERING DOES NOT WORK. AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR, THE POWER STEERING RESUMED OPERATING PROPERLY. THE NEXT DAY, THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED UPON STARTING, AND WAS AGAIN REMEDIED BY RESTARTING THE CAR.
THIRD BRAKE LIGHT SOMETIMES WORKS OFTEN DOES NOT WORK
THE POWER STEERING ON OUR VEHICLE BEGAN RANDOMLY GOING OUT WHILE DRIVING AND WE WOULD HAVE TO STOP AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF/ON FOR THE POWER STEERING TO RETURN. EVENTUALLY THE POWER STEERING WENT OFF AND WOULDN'T COME BACK ON.
ONE DAY I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY KIDS AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND MY WHEEL LOCKED AND IT WAS VERY HARD TO TURN IT. IT WAS VERY SCARY GOING 50 MPH TRYING TO GET OFF A EXIT AND NOT BEING ABLE TO TURN MY WHEEL. I NEEDED JUST HAVE TO LET MY CAR SIT BECAUSE I CLD NOT AFFORD THE COST TO GET IT FIXED AND I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO CAUSE THAT I CALLED CHEVY GAVE THEM MY VIN NUMBER AND THEY SAID THERE WASN'T A RECALL BUT I SEE PPL WITH MALIBU'S HAVE THE SAME ISSUE . THIS CLD HAVE BEEN DEADLY ME AND MY 2 KIDS COULD HAVE GOTTEN SEVERELY HURT THAT'S NOT OKAY THAT THIS HAPPENED
STARTED VEHICLE AND THE POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON AND SERVICE ESC MESSAGE COMES ACROSS THE MESSAGE CENTER. WHEN THIS OCCURS THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. THIS IS DANGEROUS! THIS VEHICLE IS A 4 CYLINDER AND HAS THE ELECTRONIC STEERING, NOT HYDRAULIC STEERING. VEHICLE WAS STOPPED ON DRIVEWAY. SEARCHED SOME FORUMS AND OTHER OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE, IT APPEARS THAT A FAULTY SENSOR IN OR NEAR THE STEERING COLUMN IS THE PROBLEM.
WHEN DRIVING THE CAR AT 40 MPH ALL POWER STEERING WOULD BE LOST, RESULTING IN THE "SERVICE ESC" LIGHT TO COME ON THE DASHBOARD. THE ONLY WAY TO REGAIN POWER STEERING WOULD BE TO SHUT THE CAR OFF COMPLETELY AND THEN TURN IT BACK ON. I RECENTLY HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED AND THE PROBLEM WAS FOUND TO BE THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR. THE FIX COST ME $500.
WHILE TRAVELING AT 60 MPH, LOST POWER FOR A SPLIT SECOND THEN REGAINED. ABOUT 5 MILES TOWARD DESTINATION, AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT I WAS ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN & WHEN I ACCELERATED, THE CAR COMPLETELY DIED WITH LINE OF TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. SHOULD THIS CAR HAVE DIED IN THE MIDST OF HEAVY RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WE COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH A CHAIN REACTION OF VEHICLES PILING UP BEHIND ME & POSSIBLE INJURIES. . WE WERE SLOWLY CREEPING AROUND THE CORNER TRYING TO CATCH A CLEAR PATH TO PROCEED WHEN THE CAR WENT DEAD. THERE HAVE PREVIOUSLY BEEN PROBLEMS WHEN AFTER DRIVING FOR 30 MINUTES THEN RETURNING TO THE CAR IT WOULD NOT START, CRANKED BUT NOT START WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS PRESENT.. BUT AFTER REPEATED RESTART ATTEMPTS IT WOULD START MAYBE AN HOUR LATER. BUT THIS TIME IT DIED IN TRAFFIC 3 DAYS AGO AND WE HAD TO BE TOWED HOME, IT STILL WILL NOT START. I'VE READ ONLINE ABOUT MANY OTHER MALIBU OWNERS HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH CONCERNS OF ACCIDENTS. NO ENGINE OR DASH LIGHTS CAME ON AND A DEALER COULD NOT GET IT TO CODE. THE UNSAFE PROBLEM IS THE CAR DYING IN THE TRAFFIC WITH NO WARNING IN FRONT OF A LONG LINE OF TRAFFIC.
I COULD SMELL A FAINT ELECTRICAL SMOKE SMELL WHILE THE CAR WAS RUNNING, THEN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL QUIT WORKING COMPLETELY. I THEN ALSO NOTICED THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT ALSO QUIT HEATING.
WHILE IN MOTION I TURN AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND ON THE SCREEN POWER STEERING AND ESC TRACTION CONTROL OFF POPS UP IT'S LOCKING UP MORE FREQUENTLY NOW AND THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. THEN A COUPLE DAYS LATER MY ENGINE LIGHT POPS ON I FIGURED IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE POWER STEERING ESC TRACTION CONTROL PROBLEM BUT AFTER SERVAL DAYS LATER I'M AT WORK AND THE CAR WANT START . I TRY A COUPLE TIMES AND GIVES IT SOME GAS THEN IT STARTED SO I WAS ON MY WAY THEN MAYBE 15 MINUTES DOWN THE ROAD THE STEERING WHEELS LOCKS UP AGAIN AND THE SAME MESSAGE POPS UP ON THE SCREEN THIS IS REALLY WEIRD AND AGAIN DANGEROUS.
I HAD JUST LEFT THE GAS STATION AFTER FILLING UP WITH GAS I CAME TO A STOPLIGHT AND WHEN I WENT TO TAKE OFF FROM A STOP THE CAR STARTED SPUTTERING AND ONLY GOING AT VERY LOW POWER I TURNED THE CAR AROUND AND NOTICED THERE WAS A TICK IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT MOVED BACK AND FORTH THE STEERING BECAME HARD TO TURN AS I LOST MY POWER STEERING THEN THE CAR SHUT OFF WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN IT WAS STILL RUNNING AT HALF POWER I MANAGED TO MAKE IT BACK TO THE HOUSE AND UPON RESTARTING THE CAR IT WAS STUCK IN LIMP MODE AND WAS DISPLAYING POWER STEERING AND ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL LOTS ON THE DASH AFTER RESETTING THE CODES IT RUNS PROPERLY BUT THEN KICKS BACK INTO LIMP MODE AND LOSES STEERING ABILITY OF THE ELECTRONIC ASSIST.

THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
The passenger light beam will not come on it also messes with my radio it turns it to the aux I keep replacing the Bub in the harness and it's still not working not not to mention the car felt like a lost of power due to I guess the trance when turning a corner or pulling off. The air bag light comes on a few days and turn off.

UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V252000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS STILL AWAITING A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 27,000.
IT IS THE POWER STEERING AND IT SHUTS OFF NO WARNING, LOCKS STEERING WHEEL UP I'M NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO TURN IT WHEN IT DOES. THE ESC LIGHT COMES ON AND TRACTION CONTROL GOES OFF. IT IS TRIGGERED AT TIMES BY COLD WEATHER BUT CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
FROM THE MINUTE I DROVE MY CAR OFF THE LOT THE DASH HAS BEEN SAYING 'SERVICE AIRBAGS'. A WEEK AGO WHILE I WAS DRIVING I LOST POWER STEERING. THE DASH SAID 'SERVICE ESC' AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT POPPED UP ON THE DASH. IF I TURN OFF MY CAR FOR A WHILE THE POWER STEERING MAY STILL WORK WHEN I START IT BACK UP, BUT EVENTUALLY I LOSE POWER STEERING AGAIN WHILE DRIVING.

THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED AND OPERATED AS INTENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WARRANTY MILEAGE WAS EXCEEDED FOR THE STEERING WARRANTY REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 174,000.
STEERING GETS HARD TO MANEUVER WHILE DRIVING ALL LIGHTS COME ON ON THE DASHBOARD AND HAVE TO STOP AND RESET VEHICLE, HEADLIGHTS WORK WHEN THEY WANT TO. I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WHEN MY STEERING GOT HARD TO USE. I HAD TO GET ON THE SHOULDER AND RESET THE BATTERY, IN ORDER TO GET HOME SAFELY
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ABOUT A 2 HOUR TRIP AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND AT FIRST I COULD TURN THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON AND IT WORKED BUT ONLY A FEW MINUTE AND THE SAME NIGHT IT WENT COMPLETELY OUT AND NOW IT DOESN'T WORK AT ALL. IT'S VERY HARD TO TURN AND IT SAYS SERVICE ESC, ALSO TRACTION AND DID SAY POWER STEERING, IT ALSO SAYS THAT ESC IS OFF.
EXTERIOR BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON & CRUISE CONTROL SHUTS OFF. WHEN IN MOTION.
THE BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATE WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING PUSHED. THE BRAKE LIGHTS FAIL TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PUSHED. THIS HAS BEEN AN ON GOING PROBLEM AND WE ONLY REALIZE IT STILL EXISTS WHEN ONE OF OUR FAMILY IS FOLLOWING THE 2010 MALIBU IN ANOTHER CAR. WE HAD BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN TO A CHEVROLET SERVICE CENTER IN THE PAST AND WERE CHARGED FOR A "REPAIR". WHEN WE AGAIN NOTICED THE PROBLEM WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE INTO A FIRESTONE SERVICE CENTER AND THEY CHARGED US FOR A "REPAIR". WE JUST NOTICED THE PROBLEM AGAIN AND NOW ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. A SEARCH OF THE VIN SHOWS NO UNREPAIRED RECALLS SO WE ARE NOT SURE IF THE ORIGINAL OWNER HAD ALREADY BROUGHT IT IN (WE ARE THE SECOND OWNER) OR IF THIS PARTICULAR VIN WAS NOT THOUGHT TO BE AFFECTED. REGARDLESS, IT SOUNDS LIKE A KNOWN PROBLEM AND WE ARE HOPING NOT TO HAVE TO PAY A THIRD TIME AND THEN STILL HAVE AN ISSUE. PLEASE LET US KNOW OUR OPTIONS. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.
POWER STEERING LIGHTS UP ON DASH AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKS. HAPPENS MOSTLY WITH COLD WEATHER. WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY THE STEERING LOCKS. I HAVE TO STOP AND RESTART CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. ALSO. AFTER BEING PARKED. WHEN THE CAR GETS TO A COLD TEMPERATURE THE STEERING WHEEL WILL LOCK UP.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I LOST THE ABILITY TO STEER MY ESCL CAME ON. MY WHEELS LOCKED UP.I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR IN AUGUST AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH IT AND I'M NOW CONCERNED AS WELL ABOUT AIRBAG SAFETY I'M SCARED ABOUT HOW RISKY AND DANGEROUS THIS CAR REALLY IS MALIBU IS MOST RECALLED VEHICLES HAD I KNOWN AHEAD I WOULD NEVER HAVE PURCHASED THIS DEADLY WEAPON. I'M 22 A SINGLE MOM WHO IS RESPONSIBLE AND NOW HAVE A VEHICLE ISSUE AND A POTENTIAL DEADLY ONE AT THAT . PLEASE DO SOMETHING IT'S NOT AN ERROR ON MY END I KNOW THAT FOR FACT. UPON START UP THE ELECTRONIC STEERING CONTROL MODULE WARNING LIGHT COME ON AND UNABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR OR MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. THE WARNING LIGHT WILL GO OFF BY TURNING THE SWITCH OFF AND RESTART THE CAR. I AM CONCERN THIS WILL EVENTUALLY HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. AFTER TURNING, POWERSTEERING CUT OFF. THE WARNING MESSAGE "POWER STEERING- SERVICE ESC" APPEARED. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, TURNED IT BACK ON, AND POWER STEERING WAS RE ENGAGED.
DRIVERS SEAT FRAME HAS BROKE IN 2 PLACES CAUSING THE SEAT TO BE UNSTABLE.
MY CAR WAS MAKING WEIRD NOISE UNDER THE HOOD. I HAVE MAINTAINED MY CAR VERY WELL. COME TO FIND OUT THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE AND SMASHED ALL THE VALVES. THE MECHANIC SAID BECAUSE OF IT BEING IN A PLASTIC MECHANISM, THAT'S A PROBLEM AND A BAD DESIGN ON CHEVROLET'S PART. I HAVE SEEN AND HEARD MANY OTHER PEOPLE SAYING THE SAME HAPPENED TO THEM. WHY HASN'T THIS BEEN RECALLED YET?
AFTER RECALL SERVICE FOR POWER STEERING FAILURE IT'S DOING THE SAME THING. POWER STEERING FAILS WHILE DRIVING . I HAVE TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART TO RESET THE ISSUE.

TIRED IF REPLACING AND OR FIXING THEM, EVERY FEW MONTHS! ALSO MY SVC TIRE MONITOR LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND SAY LOW TIRE PRESSURE AND MY TIRES ARE NOT LOW......
WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 30 MPH WHEN POWER STEERING GAVE OUT AND I COULD HARDLY STEER THE VEHICLE.

THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED PREVENTING ME FROM HAVING CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHICH RESULTED INTO ME HITTING THE BACK OF ANOTHER VEHICLE CAUSING A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT ON A CITY STREET AND MY CAR IS TOTALLY DAMAGED
THE HEADLIGHTS KEEP BREAKING. THE RIGHT SIDE MORE OFTEN. I SEE THESE MALIBU'S ON THE ROAD ALL THE TIME WITH A HEADLIGHT OUT. IT'S EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE AND SHOULDN'T HAPPEN AS OFTEN AS IT DOES.
WAS DRIVING DURING A RAIN STORM WITH MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS ACTIVATED ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE WIPERS ABRUPTLY STOPPED WORKING. DANGEROUS SITUATION TO SAY THE LEAST. CAN IT GET THEM TO WORK AGAIN.
WHILE COMMUTING TO WORK FROM HOME ON A MAIN INTERSECTION A POWER REDUCTION OCCURRED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER, SPEED, AND THE ABILITIES TO FUNCTION NORMALLY CLOSE TO WORK I PARKED IN THE NEAREST PARKING LOT AND SCHEDULED A REPAIR AT A AUTOMOTIVE SHOP... AFTER INSPECTING IT A MECHANIC REPLACED THROTTLE BODY, GAS PEDAL AND AIR INTAKE HOSE COSTING $860.. UPON PICKUP ABOUT 5 MINUTES INTO DRIVING A POWER REDUCTION STILL OCCURED UPON REINSPECTION AND NO CODES IN A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME HE WASN'T ABLE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM...I THAN HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP WHO THAN RAN A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND DID A FEW MINOR REPAIRS AND A CLUSTER INSTRUMENT COMING OUT TO $910..UPON PICKUP FROM CERTIFIED DEALER A POWER REDUCTION AGAIN REOCCURRING I HAD TO PAY A EXTRA $100 TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER SHIP FOR REPAIR FOR IT BEING EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO TRANSPORT IT MANUALLY FEELING THE HEADACHE AND THE PAIN OF COSTLY REPAIRS FOR A PROBLEM WITHOUT A DEFINITE POSSIBLE WAY OF REPAIRING I FEEL ITS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN OVER LOOKED BY GM CHEVY NOW KNOWING THE STORY OF THE POWER REDUCING IN MANY GM VEHICLES I FORSURE WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS AUTO MAKER.
LOST POWER STEERING WHEN STARTED THE CAR WHEN ITS COLD
I WAS GOING TO WORK , WHEN I ARRIVED AT WORK MY DRIVER FRONT DOOR WAS STUCK SHUT IT WOULD NOT OPEN FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE . I HAD TO CRAWL OVER CONSOLE TO GET OUT OF CAR THRU PASSENGER SIDE, AND NOW I HAVE TO GET IN IT TO DRIVE IT FROM PASSENGER SIDE.
