TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED AN INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR WHENEVER THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AT LOW SPEEDS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND CONFIRMED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID 05V379000, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC ANTILOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR WHENEVER THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AT LOW SPEEDS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 121,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT AND PASSENGER SEAT SLIDES BACK AND FORTH AND WOULD NOT LOCK IN PLACE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A KIT AVAILABLE TO FIX THE SEAT, BUT THAT WAS A YEAR AGO. THE VIN DID NOT GO THROUGH AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70000.
WE HAD TWO CRASHES LAST WINTER (MICHIGAN 2009) WHEN WE APPLIED BRAKES AND THE VEHCILE (2000 SILVERADO PICKUP) LUNGED FORWARD INSTEAD OF STOPPING. WE FIGURED THE VEHCILE SLID ON ICEY ROADS BUT IN JULY THIS YEAR WE WERE IN A PARKING LOT WHERE WE SLAMMED ON BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING A VEHICLE AND TRUCK DID NOT STOP AND KEPT ON GOING. WE THEN TOOK IT TO GARAGE AND THE MECHANIC PUT A NEW WHEEL BEARING (WITH WHEEL SENSOR) ON RIGHT FRONT. I NOTICED ON 8/30/2005 NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER. 05V379000 THAT THERE WAS A RECALL OF 1999-2002 TRUCKS WITH THIS PROBLEM. WE ARE SO LUCKY THAT ANOTHER HUMAN BEING WAS NOT HURT IN THESE INCIDENCES. WE HAVE REPLACED 2 BUMPERS AND NOW LOOKING AT A 3RD ONE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON AN INCLINE AND THE EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE WAS ENGAGED; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE BEGIN MOVING WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE CONTACT IS AWARE OF THE SAFETY RISK. 2000 CHEVY Z71 BRAKE LINES RUSTED HOLES IN LINE DDDKY. *TR
INVOLVED IN A WRECK WERE MY FRONT END HIT THE REAR OF A FORD 4X4 F150, WAS TRAVELING AROUND 30 MPH AND AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. HAVE PICTURES OF MY FRONT END,TRUCK WAS TOTALED. *TR
TRUCK HAD HARD TIME STARTING WHEN COLD FOR 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO TRUCK NOT STARTING AT ALL. TOOK TRUCK IN WAS TOLD FUEL PUMP SHORTED , MELTED WIRE HARNESS AND FUEL PUMP MODULE MELTED. HALF OF ENGINE COMPARTMENT WIRE HARNESS MELTED ALSO. WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC WE WERE VERY LUCKY THAT THE TRUCK DID NOT EXPLODE. THIS IS TO COST $1800.00 IN REPAIRS. *TR
TRUCK LOST ABILITY TO STOP EFFECTIVELY. TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. MECHANIC FOUND FRONT STEEL BRAKE LINES HAD RUPTURED FROM CORROSION. BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT IT WOULD NOT STOP AND THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR. HE EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD BEGUN TO LEAK DUE TO RUST. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES BEFOREHAND. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 109,000. UPDATED 07/24/09. *LJ
I LEFT WORK AND WHEN I PULLED UP TO THE TRAFFIC LIGHT MY BRAKES WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER AND HAD TO HAVE ALL THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED. DEALER SAID THEY WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 LT, WHICH I PURCHASED FROM MY SON ON OCT 17, 2009. PRIOR TO THAT MY SON EXPERIENCED THE RIGHT FRONT BAKE LINE BURST IN JUNE OF 2009, WHICH HE HAD REPLACED. I HAD THE BRAKE LINES CHECKED AT THE CHEVY DEALER WHO ADVISED ME TO REPLACE ALL THE LINES. CHEVY DOES NOT OFFER PRE-MADE BRAKE LINES, MEANING THEY HAVE TO BE MADE UP INDIVIDUALLY, AT A HUGE EXPENSE. ACCORDING TO OFFICE OF DEFECTS INVESTIGATION THERE ARE 110 OWNER COMPLAINTS SUCH AS MINE. THE COMPLAINTS ALLEGE THE LOSS OF BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS DUE TO BRAKE LINE RUPTURE BECAUSE OF CORROSION. IN 37 OF THESE COMPLAINTS THE BRAKE LINE FAILURE WAS CONFIRMED BY A DEALER INSPECTION. THREE COMPLAINTS ALLEGE THAT CORRODED BRAKE LINE FAILURE RESULTED IN A CRASH. MY WIFE AND I ARE RETIRED AND TRYING TO ENJOY OUR LASTING YEARS AND HOPEFULLY GM WILL RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. OUR LIVES ARE WORTH MORE THAN BRAKE LINES. *TR
I OWN A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO. MY TRANSFER CASE IS STUCK IN 4WD ALL THE TIME WHICH HAS CAUSED DAMAGE TO MY FRONT DIFF ALSO. IF I CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT THE FRONT DIFF WILL LOCK UP. MY FATHER IN LAW OWNS THE SAME YEAR TRUCK WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO TALKED TO SEVERAL OTHERS WITH THE SAME CONDITION. I WORK AS A AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN AND ALMOST EVERY TRANSFER CASE OF THIS GEN EXHIBITS THE SAME PROBLEM. I FEAR THAT IF THESE ARE NOT CORRECTED THEY WILL LOCK UP AND CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY. THE ONLY FIX I KNOW OF IS TO REPLACE THE DIFF AND TRANSFER CASE. I DRIVE MY TRUCK VERY NORMALLY. IT IS NOT ABUSED AND DOES VERY LITTLE OFF ROAD DRIVING. *TR
BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND A STREAM OF HYDRAULIC BRAKE FLUID HIT MY WIFE. A BRAKE LINE HAD BURST AND I COMPLETELY LOST BRAKES. I HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER THEY CHARGED $650 TO REPLACE THE RUSTED BRAKE LINE THAT HAD BURST. NOW I HAVE LOST BRAKES AGAIN 6/21/13 ANOTHER LEAK FROM A RUSTED OUT HOLE IN THE BRAKE LINE. I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK NEW IN 2000 AND IT HAS REMAINED IN FLORIDA THE ENTIRE TIME. WE HAVE NO ROAD SALT, WE HAVE NO SNOW. HOW CAN YOU BUILD A VEHICLE WITH BRAKE LINES THAT RUST OUT?. PLEASE HELP AND RECALL THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM BEFORE INNOCENT PEOPLE GET KILLED! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 10 MPH OVER A SPEED BUMP WHEN A CLUNKING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD BANGING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. HE WAS ABLE TO SAFELY REACH HIS DESTINATION. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, HE NOTICED THAT THE FRONT FUEL TANK STRAP FAILED. HE DID NOT NOTICE ANY PRIOR FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO CURRENT RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE COMPENSATION. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 213,060.
PURCHASED A USED 200 CHEVROLET SILVERADO K2500 4WD. THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE AT 7MPH WHILE STOPPING. IT OCCURS AT EVERY STOP. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SPEED SENSORS PER THE RECALL WHICH DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER TESTED THE VEHICLE AFTER THE FIX AND FOUND IT STILL FAILING. NOW GM WON'T DO ANYTHING MORE AND MY TRUCK STILL HAS FAULTY ANTI LOCK BRAKES. *TR
SIGNAL CONTINUED TO CLICK AFTER CANCELING, CHANGED SIGNAL FLASHER BUT DID NOT STOP, TOOK TO DEALER, DIAGNOSED AS MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH - $1,000 IN TOTAL TO FIX - NOT IMPRESSED WITH GM DESERVE TO GO BROKE AS THIS IS NOT THE ONLY PROBLEM. *TR
DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS AND APPLYING THE BRAKE TO STOP THE PEDAL HAD A CHATTER FEEL TO IT AND THEN THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I COULD NOT STOP. AT THAT TIME I HAD TO SWERVE TO AVOID HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AT THE STOP LIGHT. THIS HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES. THIS ALSO HAPPENED PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT AND THE TRUCK JUMPED THE CURB AND BENT MY PLOW MOUNT. I AM FORTUNATE TO HAVE NOT HIT THE VEHICLE OR SOMEONE OR SOMETHING ELSE. THE MOST RECENT TIME WAS 3/24/09. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THIS MORNING HOPING THEY CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THEY SAY IT MIGHT BE THE SPEED SENSOR, BUT IF IT SOMETHING ELSE LIKE THE ABS CONTROL MODULE THAT THING COSTS OVER $1000 PLUS LABOR MAYBE THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS IF THIS MIGHT ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS UNIT. *TR
GAS TANK STRAPS RUSTED AWAY. *TR
DRIVING SILVERADO, DEPRESSED BRAKE AND BRAKES FAILED. I WAS TRAVELING SLOWLY SO LUCKILY THERE I DIDN'T STRIKE ANYONE. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED, AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS FLUID DRIPPING FROM UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. I TOOK THE SILVERADO IMMEDIATELY TO THE GM DEALER AND WAS TOLD MY BRAKE LINES WHERE RUSTED, AND ONE WAS RUSTED THROUGH. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE THAT HAD RUSTED LINES. THIS IS A FAILURE DUE TO COST CUTTING MEASURES BY GM. USING A BARE STEEL TUBE THAT IS SUSCEPTIBLE TO RUSTING IS TOTAL IRRESPONSIBLE. SUCH AN IMPORTANT PART SHOULD NOT BE DESIGNED TO FAIL. *TR

MY TRUCK IS EXPERIENCING THE RECALL NR 05V379000 SERVICE BRAKES HYDRAULIC, ANTILOCK SYMPTOMS BUT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE STATES AS POSTED ON THE RECALL NOTICE. I HAVE NOT REC'D A RECALL NOTICE FROM GM AS WELL. I HAVE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO GM AND TOLD THEM I HAVE HAD THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW IN 2000. THEY SAID THEY WOULD LOOK IN TO IT AND THIS HAS BEEN A FEW YEARS BACK I ALMOST WRECKED YESTERDAY TOO. *TR
REAR BRAKE LINE RUSTED OUT. THANK GOD I WAS GOING SLOW AND THERE WAS NOT MUCH TRAFFIC. WHEN FIXING THE BRAKE LINE I NOTICE THE REAR DUST SHIELDS WERE COMPLETELY GONE AND THE FRAME HAD ALOT OF RUST. FAST FORWARD 8-20-12 WHEN WORKING ON THE FRONT BRAKE LINES BECAUSE THEY RUSTED OUT TOO. I HAD THE TRUCK UP ON JACK STANDS. CAME HOME TO FIND THE FRONT END ON THE GROUND. THE FRAME BROKE COMPLETELY INTO, AT THE CROSS MEMBER FOR THE TORSIONBARS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IS ONE OF THE STRONGEST PARTS OF THE FRAME. WHAT WOULD OF HAPPENED IF I WAS GOING DOWN THE ROAD. *TR *JS
MY FATHER RECENTLY DIED AS A RESULT OF INJURIES SUFFERED IN A ONE VEHICLE ACCIDENT. HE WAS DRIVING HIS 2000 CHEVROLET C1500 PICKUP TRUCK. HE INDICATED THAT THE THROTTLE ON HIS TRUCK STUCK AND HE COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, HE RAN OFF THE ROAD, HIT A TREE TOTALING THE VEHICLE. *TR
1 = WHEN I ARRIVED AT WORK, MY RIGHT REAR WHEEL WAS SEVERELY HEATING UP CAUSING WHEEL TO SMOKE AND SMELL OF BRAKE PADS BURNING UP. 2 = FIRST TIME OCCURRENCE, NO SOUND OF INTERMEDIATE SCRAPING NOISES HEARD FROM REAR OF VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. 3 = TOOK TRUCK TO REPAIR SHOP, THEY DETERMINED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PADS CAME INTO CONTACT WITH PARKING BRAKE DRUMS, CAUSING HEAT BUILD UP WHICH BURNED UP THE CALIPER, BRAKE PADS AND BRAKE HOSE AND THEN TOLD ME THERE WAS A 9 PAGE SAFETY RECALL ALREADY ISSUED BY GM FOR THIS SAME EXACT PARKING BRAKE DEFECT. I TOLD THEM NOT TO REPAIR THE TRUCK. I WENT TO THE GM DEALER TO HAVE IT REPAIRED FREE. GM REFUSED TO REPAIR THE TRUCK STATING THE SAFETY RECALL (I.E. # 05042B) ONLY EFFECTED VEHICLES WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS AND MY TRUCK IS AUTOMATIC. PLEASE NOTE: I USED TO BE NAISE CERTIFIED IN BRAKES. I ASKED THE SERVICE MGR WHAT DIFFERENCE IS THERE IN "ANY" OF THE BRAKE COMPONENT PART NUMBERS BETWEEN A MANUAL AND AUTOMATIC VEHICLE OF THIS SAME YEAR AND TYPE. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE. IF I WENT TO THE AUTO PARTS STORE FOR ANY ONE OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE COMPONENTS, BRAKE PADS, ROTORS, CALIPERS THEY WOULD NEVER ASK IF THE VEHICLE IS MANUAL OR AUTOMATIC, THEY ONLY ASK THE YEAR AND SIZE OF MOTOR. IF THE PARKING BRAKE CAN FAIL ON A MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLE, AND THERE IS NOT ONE DIFFERENCE IN PART NUMBERS THEN IT CAN FAIL ON AN AUTOMATIC VEHICLE. THE GM SERVICE MANAGER AGREED BUT SAID HE COULDN'T DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THE RECALL STATES MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES. I SAID YOU KNOW IT HAS TO BE A TYPO ERROR ON THE RECALL DOCUMENT. MY AUTOMATIC VEHICLE HAD A CONTACT CONDITION BETWEEN THE PARKING BRAKE PADS AND THE PARKING BRAKE DRUMS AND MY PARKING BRAKE "WAS NOT APPLIED". THE RECALL STATES THIS IS THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE SAME IDENTICAL FAILURE ON A MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLE. SAME PARTS, SAME ASSEMBLY LINE, IDENTICAL SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 25 AND 30 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT BRAKE LINE FAILED WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE THE BRAKE PEDAL TO AVOID HITTING A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HIM. THE CONTACT WAS FORCED TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND COASTED ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE MECHANIC REPAIRED 48 FEET OF THE BRAKE TUBING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,000.
I OWN A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO WITH BRAKES THAT ARE SOFT. THIS CONDITION HAS BEEN SINCE "DAY ONE" AND I CONSIDER THE VEHICLE DANGEROUS TO BRING TO A STOP. I TRAILER A 3000LB BOAT, AND EVEN THOUGH THE BOAT'S TRAILER HAS BRAKES, IT'S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP. THE TRUCK IS MAINTAINED PROPERLY, AND IS CONSIDERED IN EXCELLENT CONDITION BY ALL WHO SEES AND OR RIDES IN IT. I'VE HAD THE BRAKE SYSTEM PROFESSIONALLY SERVICED, INCLUDING A SYSTEM BLEED, BUT THIS CONDITION PERSISTS. OTHER THAN THE SOFT BRAKE FEEL PROBLEM, I LIKE THE VEHICLE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH ON ICY ROADS, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE SLID ON THE ICE AND STRUCK THE MEDIAN ON THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE THEN SPUN FROM THE LEFT OF THE HIGHWAY TO THE RIGHT, AND FINALLY CAME TO A STOP WHEN HE WAS ABLE TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. HE EXITED THE VEHICLE AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. NO ONE WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED, ALTHOUGH THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR BACK PAINS AND A SWOLLEN JAW. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED IN THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 92,000. UPDATED 01/08/09 *BF UPDATED 01/09/09. *JB
HWY STOP AND GO DUE TO 3 COLLISIONS, TRAVELING BETWEEN 4 TO 10 MPH FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 HR, EXITED TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC FOR GAS WHEN THE BRAKE WENT TO FLOOR. I PUMPED BRAKE TO NO AVAIL. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO CONTINUE TO TRAVEL 150 MILES ON THE HWY TO RETURN HOME TO CHILDREN. BRAKES DID NOT RETURN UNTIL EXIT HOME. I LIVE ON THE GULF OF MEXICO AND SAND IS EVERYWHERE AND FROM WHAT I SEE MY 2000 CHEVEROLET SILVERADO HAS A RECALL FOR CORROSION 05V37900 AND GM ID 05068B, C, BUT I DON'T LIVE IN THE "SALT BELT" AREA I LIVE IN CORPUS CHRISTI, TX. THIS HAS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 1 1/2 YRS. I NOW HAVE TO DRIVE LEAVING A MINIMUM OF 3 CAR LENGTH TO ASSURE WHEN STOPPING ITS GOING TO. I HAVE HAD IT CHECK W/BRAKE CHECK WHO STATES THEY THINK IT IS A VAPOR LOCK, PUT EVERYTHING AT THE TIME CHECK OUT FINE, BUT WAS TOLD TO BRING IT BACK IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM ON LINE WHEN I FOUND THAT A RECALL WAS IN EFFECT, BUT I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF IT DUE TO MY LOCATION. I HAVE SCHEDULED AN APPT W/ CHAMPION CHEVERLOT HERE IN CORPUS CHRISTI, TX, BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD I HAVE TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OF $93.00, WHEN I DON'T WANT IT TESTED I WANT THIS PARTICULAR ITEM TO BE INSPECTED AND CORRECTED IF NECESSARY UNDER THE RECALL DUE TO CORROSION FROM LIVING ON THE COAST. THE OTHER INSTANCE WAS AGAIN AFTER SEVERAL SLOW STARTS AND STOPS. I TUNED OFF TRUCK AND WHEN I WENT TO START AND PLACE IN GEAR, THE BRAKES WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR, IT SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING ISN'T RELEASING IN THE BRAKES, PUMP THEM GET VERY LITTLE PRESSURE, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE BACK IN FULL STRENGTH, IT IS VERY FRIGHTFUL. *TR
I DID THE RECALL FOR MY BRAKES ON CHEVY SILVERADO 2000 BUT STILL THE BRAKE LINE WAS CUT BY THE RIM I THINK THIS IS NOT SAFE TO HAVE 16 INCH RIMS ON. IT IS BETTER TO UPGRADE TO 17 INC RIM I TALKED TO GMC BUT THEY SAID THE RECALL FIXED THE LINE, BUT IT IS STILL TOO CLOSE TO THE RIM. IN THE EVENT IF THE VEHICLE HITS A POT HOLE THE RIM THEN IT WILL CUT THE BRAKE LINE AND FAIL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT HAS EXPERIENCED BRAKE LINE FAILURES NUMEROUS TIMES WITH THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE RUPTURED BRAKE LINE, WHICH CORRECTED THE FAILURE FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED IN THE SAME MANNER. A MECHANIC REPLACED THE RUPTURED BRAKE LINE ONCE AGAIN AND THIS CORRECTED THE FAILURE FOR ONLY A FEW MONTHS. THE FAILURE RECURRED IN NOVEMBER OF 2008 AND A CRASH OCCURRED. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH ON AN ICY BRIDGE, THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. HE STRUCK THE REAR BUMPER OF THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND THE VEHICLE WAS EVENTUALLY TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE BRAKE LINE RUPTURED AGAIN BUT GM BLAMED THE ACCIDENT ON ICY ROAD.
BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS SLIDE BACK AND FORTH DEPENDING ON WHETHER I AM ACCELERATING OR BRAKING. THIS MOVEMENT OF THE SEAT AFFECTS THE PRESSURE THAT MY FOOT PUTS ON THE BRAKES AND ACCELERATOR AND OFTEN CAUSES ME TO STOP FASTER THAN INTENDED (WHICH COULD CAUSE A DRIVER BEHIND ME TO CRASH INTO MY TRUCK).
TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE, FORTUNATELY AT SLOW SPEED WHERE PARKING BRAKE COULD BE USED TO STOP. IT WAS IMMEDIATELY AFTER EXITING A HIGH-SPEED INTERSTATE, HOWEVER, WHERE THE FAILURE COULD WELL HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS CRASH. THE VEHICLE, A 2000 CHEVROLET 3/4 TON SILVERADO HD TRUCK, WAS TAKEN TO A NEARBY CHEVROLET DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT RUST HAD CAUSED TWO LEAKS IN THE BRAKE LINES, CAUSING IMMEDIATE FAILURE OF ALL FOUR WHEEL BRAKES. AN ESTIMATE OF UP TO $7000 FOR REPAIR WAS GIVEN. *TR
DRIVING AT 35 MPH I WENT TO STOP FOR A TURNING CAR. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP. TO AVOID AN HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, I VEERED TO THE RIGHT AND WENT INTO A DITCH. AFTER INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE IT WAS NOTED THAT EVERY ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES (SHAPED AS A HOOK) THAT ARE NEAR THE ABS BOX WERE ABNORMALLY CORRODED AND RUSTED THROUGH EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE MADE FROM STAINLESS STEEL. BRAKE FLUID GUSHED OUT WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THIS VEHICLE IS STORED DURING WINTER MONTHS (NOV.-APR) SALT AND SNOW ARE NOT ISSUES. I HAVE A 2001 GMC 4X4 AND INSPECTED THE BRAKE LINES AFTER THE ACCIDENT WITH THE SILVERADO. THOSE BRAKE LINES LOOK FINE.*TR
CHEVY SILVERADO TRUCK HAD EXHAUST LEAK(6.0LITER). UPON INSPECTION, EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT HEADS WERE NOTED TO BE BROKEN OFF. AFTER TALKING WITH OTHER SILVERADO OWNERS, THEY ALSO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS. *TR
I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH YOU IN APPROXIMATELY 2008/09. AT 20 MPH THERE ARE ALMOST NO BRAKES (NOT ABS BRAKES, NO BRAKES). I PULLED THE FUSE FOR THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM AND THE PROBLEM ENDED. I HEARD NOTHING BACK FROM YOU. FRIENDS WHO DROVE MY TRUCK COMPLAINED OF EXCESSIVELY SOFT BRAKES SINCE IT WAS NEW. I WAS CHECKING YOUR WEBSITE 3 DAYS AGO WHEN I CAME ACROSS RECALL #GM05068, NHTSA 05V379000. I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER TO INQUIRE ABOUT RECALL REPAIRS. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE RECALL HAD BEEN DONE ON MY VEHICLE ON 02-17-06. THEY SAID THEY ARE ONLY AUTHORIZED TO DO THE RECALL REPAIRS ONCE. I ASSUME THIS WAS DONE WHEN I HAD THE VEHICLE IN FOR OTHER ISSUES, AS I HAD NO BRAKE PROBLEMS AT THE TIME. SO APPROXIMATELY 2 YRS AFTER THE RECALL SERVICE WAS DONE THE PROBLEM PRESENTED ITSELF. I CALLED GM TODAY (REF # 71-106-286-2771) THEY SAID THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING ON THE RECALL BUT IT IS "POSSIBLE" THEY MAY BE ABLE TO GIVE SOME ASSISTANCE UNDER ANOTHER PROGRAM IF I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND PAY FOR A DIAGNOSIS "OF A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT". I WAS ALREADY TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE FIX WOULD COST BETWEEN $200-350.00, AND DIAGNOSIS IS LIKELY TO ADD ANOTHER 100.00, WITH NO ASSURANCE OF ANY REIMBURSEMENT. MY PROBLEM IS THREE FOLD: THE ORIGINAL FIX DID NOT ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM, THE PROBLEM IS A DESIGN WHICH DIRECTLY IMPACTS SAFETY AND APPEARS TO RE-OCCUR RANDOMLY EVERY COUPLE OF YEARS, A REAL FIX MUST HAVE BEEN ACHIEVED SINCE TRUCKS AFTER 2002 ARE NOT SIMILARLY AFFECTED. FOR MY WIFE'S SAFETY I HAVE CHOSEN TO PULL THE FUSE AND DISABLE THE ABS SYSTEM, RETURNING THE VEHICLE TO PRE-ABS STATUS, AND THE BRAKES WORK FINE. THE CALIPERS AND ROTORS HAVE BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED. SHOULDN'T AN ABS SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNED TO FAIL BACK TO REGULAR BRAKES RATHER THAN ALMOST NO BRAKES? QUESTIONS: SHOULD THE PROBLEM STILL BE COVERED BY THE RECALL? WHAT REDESIGN WAS MADE TO ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM? *JS

THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,100 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,300.
BRAKE LINE FROM ABS CONTROL TO REAR WHEELS, LINE RUPTURED DUE TO CORROSION. THANKFULLY I WAS BACKING UP AT A SLOW SPEED, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AS I APPLIED BRAKES, LOSING ALL BRAKE FLUID. I REPLACED THE REAR SECTION OF BRAKE LINE BUT NEED A TOTAL BRAKE LINE REPLACEMENT BUT COULDN'T AFFORD IT THEN AND STILL CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE IT DONE, LUCKILY I DON'T HAVE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK FOR EVERYDAY USE. HAD I BEEN PULLING THE BOAT TRAILER, MY ENCLOSED TRAILER, OR JUST TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS I DON'T THINK I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED MANY OTHER SUV AND LIGHT TRUCKS MADE BY GM IN THE 1999 TO 2006 MODEL YEARS HAVE SIMILAR BRAKE LINE CORROSION ISSUES.

THREE OUT OF FOUR MAIN LINES WERE REPLACED. 04/22/2012 - MILEAGE-98,600 - LEAVING MY DRIVEWAY AND DEPRESSED BRAKE PEDAL. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LINE HAD HOLES DUE TO RUST. THIS LINE WAS A SEPARATE LINE FROM THE OTHER THREE OUT OF FOUR LINES THAT WERE REPLACED. *TR
I WAS LEAVING A BANK PARKING LOT AND WENT TO STOP BEFORE TURNING ONTO THE HIGHWAY. WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY, I WAS ON A SLIGHT INCLINE AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK, WHICH WAS COMING FROM A CORRODED LINE BETWEEN THE MASTER CYLINDER AND ABS MODULE. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO MY LOCAL SHOP AND THEY REPLACED TWO BRAKE LINES BETWEEN THE MASTER CYLINDER AND ABS. FAST FORWARD TO APRIL 22, 2012 AND AROUND 37K MILES LATER. I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND WENT TO STOP. PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND. THE BRAKE LINE GOING TO THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL HAD RUSTED THROUGH ENOUGH THAT IT COULD NOT HOLD THE PRESSURE. THIS LINE I REPLACED MYSELF. AND FINALLY, TODAY, JANUARY 4, 2015, SAME THING. I START MY TRUCK, LET IT RUN FOR A FEW MINUTES. APPLY THE BRAKE TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE, PEDAL GOES DOWN TO THE FLOOR, BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND. THIS TIME IT'S THE BRAKE LINE FOR THE REAR BRAKES THAT HAS RUSTED OUT. I AM GOING TO HAVE THIS LINE AND ANY OTHER LINES THAT HAVE NOT BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED, REPLACED AT MY LOCAL SHOP OR DEALER. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT GM NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF! I WAS GOING SLOW WITH EACH OF THESE INCIDENTS, BUT WHAT IF I WAS DOING 70 MPH DOWN THE INTERSTATE AND HAD TO STOP OR SLOW DOWN VERY SUDDENLY AND MY BRAKES FAILED?
