SILVERADO TRUCK WITH A DEFECTIVE EMERGENCY BRAKE CUSTOMER IS LOOKING FOR REIMBURSEMENT**NAR**CC THE CONSUMER STATED PRIOR TO THE RECALL, HIS VEHICLE ROLLED DOWN A HILL. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR BOARD WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY SEVEN MONTHS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FRONT BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND THEY REPLACED THEM ONCE AGAIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,600. UPDATED 12/12/07
SAME PARKING BRAKE PROBLEM AS COVERED IN RECALL ON TRUCKS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION, ONLY MINE IS AN AUTOMATIC AND NOT COVERED. PARKING BRAKE HAS SELDOM BEEN USED YET PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR AND DOES NOT HOLD VEHICLE SECURELY SINCE 30,000 MILES, AND CANNOT BE ADJUSTED. PARKING BRAKE SHOES ARE WORN ABNORMALLY WHILE REAR DISK BRAKE PADS (ORIGINAL) ARE BARELY WORN. THIS IS A TERRIBLE DESIGN AND NEEDS A RECALL. INTERNET FORUMS ARE FULL OF COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO MINE ON THIS VEHICLE.
CRACKED FRAME BETWEEN SPRING HANGERS: THE FRAMERAILS BROKE VERTICALLY FROM BOTTOM FLANGE TO DIAGONAL SLOT AT OR NEAR NEUTRAL AXIS OF BOTH FRAME RAILS. THE FRAME RAIL HAS LARGE HOLE IN BOTTOM OF RAIL HORIZONTAL FLANGE OF 'C' SHAPE FOR ACCESSING BED/BOX MOUNTING BOLTS. CRACK PROPAGATES FROM THIS HOLE TO DIAGONAL HOLE IN THE VERTICAL WEB OF 'C' SHAPE RAIL. OVERLOADING SHOULD CAUSE THE FRAME TO FAIL FROM TOP DOWN NOT BOTTOM UP. DUE TO THE VERY THIN OEM MATERIAL AND TORSION OR TWIST INDUCED INTO THE FRAME BY LARGE OFFSET FROM THE SHEAR CENTER OF THE 'C' SHAPE TO LOADING CENTER OF THE REAR MOST SPRING HANGER. THIS PICKUP HAS NOT BEEN ALTERED IN ANY MANNER. SEVERAL COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN POSTED ON THE INTERNET, WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. GRANTED SOME OF THESE ARE DUE TO OPERATING THE VEHICLE OUTSIDE DESIGN PARAMETERS AND ALTERATIONS SUCH AS LIFT KITS AND LARGE TIRES. HOWEVER THE DESIGN APPEARS NOT TO EVEN MEET MANUFACTURER'S STATED HAULING AND TOWING CAPABILITIES, WHICH THE AFTERMARKET CHANGES ONLY EXACERBATES. THE CRACK ON MY VEHICLE WILL ONLY PROPAGATE FURTHER ON MY VEHICLE SHOULD I CONTINUE TO USE IT WITHIN GM'S RATINGS. THIS AN ISSUE COULD BE LIFE THREATING AS NEAR TO TOTAL CRACKING COULD CAUSE LOSE OF VEHICLE CONTROL. HIGHWAY RUTTING WHILE PULLING A TRAILER CAUSES SOME WHIP AND THIS WHIP WILL WORSEN AS THE CRACK PROPAGATES UPWARD.
REAR GAS TANK STRAP HAS CARRODED THRU, THIS WAS NOTICED WHEN IWAS HAVING NEW TIRES PUT ON. THE TRUCK HAS 84000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE NOT YET FIXED THE PROBLEM CAUSE IT WAS FOUND YESTERDAY. I USUALLY KEEP A VEHICAL ABOUT 10 YRS., AND NEVER RAN INTO THIS PROBLEM . THE STRAPS SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN 6-7 YRS.
ABS WOULD RELEASE THE BRAKES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP; COVERED UNDER RECALL 05V37900 IN THREE OF FOUR SURROUNDING STATES. *JB
2000 SILVERADO WITH 55902 MILES. ABS LIGHT BEGAN TO COME ON INTERMITTENTLY WITH OCCASIONAL DISPLAY OF RED BRAKE LIGHT. VEHICLE HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR CLEANING OF WHEEL SENSORS WHICH WAS COMPLETED. BRAKES WERE CHECKED AND NEW REAR PADS WITH ROTOR TURNING WAS COMPLETED. ABS LIGHT STILL ON. TAKEN TO DEALER AND ADVISED ABS MODULATOR WAS BAD. COST FOR PART, $762.62 PLUS LABOR. REPAIR NOT DONE. WILL CONTINUE TO OPERATE VEHICLE WITH CONVENTIONAL NON-ABS BRAKES UNTIL RECALL. ABS LIGHT CONTINUES TO INTERMITTENTLY DISPLAY ABS DOES NOT WORK. HOW MANY OTHER VEHICLES ARE ON THE HIGHWAY LIKE THIS DUE TO ASTRONOMICAL REPAIR COST? *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE PARKED, THE FUEL GAUGE MOVED FROM EMPTY TO FULL AND THEN BACK TO THE ACTUAL FUEL LEVEL. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM A PRIVATE PARTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER. THE FAILURE IS RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06E043000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 192,000.
TAIL GATE STRAP RECALL APRIL 2004 GM STATES STRAPS ARE DEFECTIVE MUST BE REPLACED WITH NEW STAINLESS STEEL STRAPS. NOV. 2006 STRAPS ARE RUSTED AND CORRODED. STRAPS NOT STAINLESS STEEL . I FEEL GM FALSELY MISS LED OWNERS OF THE 2000 SILVERADO TRUCKS AND OTHER VEHICLES AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL. *JB
PARKING BRAKE DOES NOT WORK IN MY 2000 SILVERADO 1500 EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. UNDERSTANDING THAT A RECALL FOR THE MANUALS HAS BEEN MADE, I FEEL THAT IT IS NECESSARY TO DO THE SAME FOR AUTOMATICS, TO RELIEVE UNDUE STRESS ON POWER TRAIN WHEN PARKED ON A HILL. THE PARKING BRAKE HAS NOT WORKED SINCE THE TRUCK REACHED 36,000 MILE'S. *NM
WE HAD TWO 2000 YEAR MODEL CHEVOLET SILVERADO TRUCK WE GOT RID OF ONE BECAUSE THE GAS GAUGE WHEN FILLED UP .THE LAW FUEL LIGHT COMES ON AND IT WOULD COST ALOT TO HAVE FIXED, I THINK IT SHOULD BE THE FACTORY'S RESPONCEABLITY TO REPLACE THIS.I HAVE TALKED TO ALOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THERE 2000 MODEL CHEVY SILVERADO TRUCKS.WHAT CAN BE DONE? *NM
FUEL LINES RUNNING UNDER THE TRUCK ARE RUSTED , CAUSING A LEAK WHEN THE TRUCK IS RUNNING AND THEREAFTER UNTIL THE FUEL LINE IS DRAINED WHEN THE MOTOR IS TURNED OFF. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH. A NHTSA RECALL #05V379000 PERTAINING TO SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE BRAKES WERE STILL INOPERABLE.
GAS GAGE CONSISTANTLY CHANGING. SEEMS TO BE BAD DESIGN ON THESE MODELS. EVERYONE I KNOW THAT HAS AROUND THIS SAME YEAR HAS THIS PROBLEM. FAILURE TO WORK CAN LEAVE A PERSON STRANDED. I WAS TOLD BY TWO DIFFERENT CHEVROLET DEALERS THAT THIS IS A BAD DESIGN AND THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAS TO BE CHANGED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *NM
FLASHER IS CONSTANTLY CLICKING WHEN NO BLINKER OR HAZARD LIGHT ARE TURNED ON WHICH CAUSES YOU TO BELIEVE THAT YOU HAVE YOUR TURN SIGNAL ON SO THAT YOU CAN PERFORM A TURN OR LANE CHANGE IN WHICH MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE FALSE SENSE OF THE CLICKING OF THE FLASHER. I'VE REPLACED IT TWICE AND IT CONTINUES. YOU COME TO DEPEND ON THE BLINKER LIGHTS AND FLASHER CLICKING TO HELP LET YOU KNOW THAT YOUR BLINKER IS ON. IT STARTED OFF GRADUALLY FROM CLICKING TO 20-60 SECONDS THEN JUST CONSTANTLY. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SHOP FOR BRAKE SERVICE, IT WAS DETERMINED THE REAR PARKING BRAKE PADS WERE WORN OUT. THE MECHANIC ALSO FOUND A NHTSA RECALL #05V161000 REGARDING THE PARKING BRAKE VIA WEBSITE SIMILAR TO THE PROBLEMS THE VEHICLE HAD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND EXPRESSED THAT THE RECALL WAS FOR VEHICLES WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE HAD AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, BUT HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS STATED IN THE RECALL. UPDATED 10/30/06. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH ON A COUNTRY ROAD, WHILE THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT WAS ENGAGED, THE STRAP ASSEMBLY AND RETRACTOR WOULD NOT RETRACT PROPERLY BACK INTO PLACE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE ENTIRE FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. UPDATED 10/25/2006 - *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE FUEL INJECTOR STUCK IN THE CLOSED POSITION CAUSING THE ENGINE TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE PROBLEM WAS DETERMINED. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN THAT THIS IS A DEFECT AND THEY DON'T WANT TO PAY THE DEALER TO FIX.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION WITH A ROADSIDE BARRIER. NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT. THE CONTACT WAS TAKEN TO A HOSPITAL WITH NECK INJURIES, FRACTURES OF THE RIBS AND FOOT, AND FACIAL LACERATIONS. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN, AND THE VEHICLE WAS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS. THIS IS IN REGARDS TO NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: EA02015. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE ACCEL PEDAL GETTING STUCK. DEALER SAID IT IS NORMAL WHICH IT IS NOT. HAPPENS RANDOMLY WHEN MANEUVERING AT LOWER SPEEDS PARKING LOTS/STREETS ETC. YOU HAVE TO GIVE THE PEDAL A FIRM PUSH TO GET IT UNSTUCK AND THE TRUCK LUNGES FWD. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT BY THIS. I HAVE SEEN MANY MANY COMPLAINTS OF THIS ON THE BOARDS/CHAT ROOMS. I WAS WITH MY YOUNG DAUGHTER DRIVING AND THIS OCCURRED AND SHE PULLED OUT AND PEDAL/THROTTLE GOT STUCK. SHE GAVE GAS AND LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE NARROWLY MISSING SEMI. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM AND GM NEEDS TO ADDRESS. MY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SAYS THIS IS VERY COMMON ON THIS YRS CHEVY SILVERADOS AND NO FIX EXISTS. *CBC *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE PEDAL PULSATED BETWEEN 3-10 MPH AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000 WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE CONCERNING, THE SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK HOWEVER, THE RECALL DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT OFFER A SECOND REPAIR UNDER THE RECALL.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE BRAKES STARTED TO GRIND, AND A CLUNK WAS HEARD WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH ON DRY FLAT ROAD CONDITIONS. UPON INSPECTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THE REAR BRAKE PADS AND CALIPER ON THE GROUND. ALSO, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DUST SHIELD WAS DETERIORATED THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED ON 08/22/06 AND EXPRESSED THAT THE BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ON 08/28/06 AND DETERMINED THERE WAS NO RECALL PERTAINING TO THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE HAD 4-WHEEL ANTILOCK BRAKES.
THIS IS IN REGARDS TO NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: EA02015. I DID NOT KNOW OF THIS SITE AND OF SUCH DEFECT INVESTIGATIONS, BUT ALTHOUGH THE MATTER MIGHT BE CLOSED, I MUST STRONGLY URGE YOU TO REOPEN THIS MATTER REGARDLESS OF WHAT GM IS RESPONDING WITH. I HAVE NOTICED IN THE PAST AND PRESENT, THAT THE CONDITION DESCRIBED IN THE NHTSA ACTION, IS STILL CURRENTLY OCCURRING. I LIVE IN THE SAN FRANCISCO OUTSKIRTS WHERE TEMPERATURES RARELY REACH ABOVE 80 DEGREES F. DURING DAYS WHERE THE TEMPERATURE RISES, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DOES, "STICK" WHERE YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT A GOOD FIRM PUSH WHICH CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO LUNGE FORWARD. ALSO, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ON A SLOPE, IT ALSO DOES SEEM TO, "STICK" OFTEN. FOR PURPOSES OF THIS STATEMENT, I WILL NOT PUT A SPECIFIC INCIDENT DATE BECAUSE IT IS ONGOING AND WILL LIST TODAY'S DATE FOR PURPOSES OF FUTURE REFERENCE. THANK YOU. *NM
ONE OWNER 2000 SILVERADO 1500 LT, WHILE PULLING LIGHT MOTORCYCLE TRAILER GOING DOWNHILL - BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. NO BRAKES WHATSOEVER. DRIVER WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE ROOM TO GRADUALLY STOP. BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH - FLUID STREAMING OUT. GM AND DEALER FINALLY REPLACED "DEFECTIVE LINES" (VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 50K MILES). 1 YEAR LATER, REMAINING LINES RUSTED OUT AND FAILED. OWNER REPLACED AT OWN COST AND FINALLY SOLD TRUCK. GM FAILED TO RECOGNIZE SYMPTOMS OF ISSUE ALL ALONG AND PROVIDED LESS THAN ACCEPTABLE SUPPORT. *TR
PARKING BRAKE FAILURE AS IN RECALL #050042 EXCEPT MY VEHICLE IS HAS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. PARKING BRAKE FAILS TO HOLD VEHICLE SECURELY ON AN INCLINE. ALSO, PARKING BRAKE PEDAL HAS NOW RELEASED WITH SUCH EXCESSIVE FORCE THAT IT HAS EXCEEDED ITS NORMAL RANGE OF MOTION AND HAS BECOME MECHANICALLY LOCKED IN THE "UP" OR RELEASED POSITION RENDERING IT INOPERABLE. *JB
EACH OF THE 3 BRAKES LINES UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER HAS FAILED ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS, FORTUNATELY ALL NOTICED WHEN BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. ON ALL 3 OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A NEAR TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. ALL THE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND REQUIRED REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. THE DUAL BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER DOES NOT PROVIDE ACCEPTABLE EMERGENCY BRAKING WITH A RUPTURED LINE. I AM REPORTING MY INCIDENTS FOLLOWING A REPORT ON THE LOCAL NEWS ABOUT THESE SAME FAILURES HAPPENING ON MANY GM TRUCKS. MY VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED WITH APPROXIMATELY 61,000 MILES ON IT. PREVIOUS HISTORY IS UNKNOWN. DATE OF ORIGINAL INCIDENT IS PROBABLY NOT ACCURATE. *TR
FUEL GAUGE WORK WHEN IT WANTS TOO ENGINE IS A 5.3 THEIR ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME THING HAPPENING TO THEM. THIS IS A SAFETY IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN TRYING TO STOP 5 DIFFERENT INCIDENCES. NO ACCIDENT, NO INJURIES. CAUSE CORROSION OF BRAKE LINES. 8/4/06 - 20,462 MILES, 2/28/07 - 22,872 MILES, 11/28/07 - 25,849 MILES, 6/9/10 - 37,486 MILES, 12/18/10 - 39,000 MILES (CURRENTLY WAITING TO BE FIXED).
PARKING BRAKE FAILURE. THE PARKING BRAKE HAS FAILED TO SECURE VEHICLE. I REALIZE THAT RECALL HAS BEEN MADE FOR MANUAL TRANS BUT THIS HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND NOW TOTAL FAILURE. FAILED SAFETY AND STATE VEHICLE INSPECTION. THE INTERNET BOARDS ARE FILLED WITH EXAMPLES OF FAILED PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKES ON 2000 YR SILVERADO. THIS CONSTITUTES A DESIGN DEFECT AND GM NEEDS TO ADDRESS. LINKAGE IS NOW LOCKED IN OPEN POSITION EFFECTIVELY PROVIDING NO EMERGENCY BRAKE. THIS IN ADDITION TO THE FAILURE OF THE FUEL SENSING MODULE IN FUEL TANK AND THE ABS BRAKE SHUDDER/FAILURE PROBLEMS AT LOWER SPEEDS. I JUST WANT IT ON RECORD THAT GM PUTS OUT THESE TRUCKS YR/YR WITH THESE KNOW PROBLEMS AND DOESN'T CORRECT THESE SAFETY ISSUES UNTIL THE NHTSA PUTS THEIR WEIGHT BEHIND IT. THX *CBC *NM
WHEN AIR TEMPERATURE IS ABOVE 65 DEGREES THE SECURITY LIGHT IS DISPLAYED IN THE INFORMATION CENTER. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER THE TRUCK FAILED TO START AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS. FUEL FILTER, SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED. DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE PASS-LOCK SECURITY SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED, AND THINKS THAT I'M TRYING TO STEAL THE TRUCK. SENSOR, WIRING HARNESS AND ONE OTHER PERTINENT PART WERE REPLACED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, PROBLEM RECURRED. MILEAGE AT THAT POINT EXCEEDED THE WARRANTY, LEADING TO MORE MONEY COMING OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. SEVERAL MONTHS PASSED AND PROBLEM HAS ONCE AGAIN BECOME APPARENT.*AK
I OWN A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO 4X4. I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE COMPUTER DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY ALL THE TIME. I CAN LOOSE THE BRAKES AT ANY TIME. I HAVE TALKED TO A FEW OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME STYLE TRUCK AND THEY HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I HAVE HAD THE MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED, NEW BRAKES INSTALLED, AND THE MOST RECENT RECALL TO CLEAN THE BRAKE CYLINDER(?) CLEANED BY A CHEVY DEALER COMPLETED. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. IT MAY HAVE BEEN 2-3 WEEKS IN-BETWEEN FAILURES. WHAT HAPPENS IS THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR WITH MINIMUM STOPPING POWER. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED THIS LAST TIME BUT UNFORTUNATELY THIS TIME I DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH ROAD TO STOP ON AND RAN INTO A TREE. DAMAGES, ACCORDING TO THE BODY SHOP, ARE GOING TO BE BETWEEN $3000-$4000 DOLLARS. THE TRUCK IS IN THE REPAIR SHOP AT THIS TIME AND I WILL HAVE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE COMPUTER REPLACED. I KNOW FOR A FACT THIS IS THE CAUSE OF MY ACCIDENT. I WAS HOPING FOR A RECALL FROM CHEVROLET TO AVOID THE EXPENSIVE REPAIR. I WILL SAVE THE OLD UNIT ALONG WITH ALL THE REPAIR BILLS AND FUTURE INCREASES IN MY INSURANCE PREMIUMS AND HOPE THAT SOMEWHERE IN THE FUTURE THE TRUCK DOES GET A RECALL. I WILL THEN IN TURN HOLD CHEVROLET RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL BILLS INCURRED. *JB

DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKES TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED THEY INTERMITTENTLY SKIDS AS IF THE BRAKE ARE LOCKING UP AND THERE IS AN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. ON ONE OCCASION THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKES HOWEVER THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. WHEN THE VEHICLE TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS FIX. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. *NM
WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK, THE SERVICE 4WD DRIVE LIGHT CAME ON, SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, THE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF FOR AWHILE, THEN COME BACK ON. AS SOON AS I GOT HOME I CALLED MY MECHANIC, HE SAID HE HAD WORKED ON SEVERAL 2000 SILVERADOS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM LATELY. ALSO FOUND OUT THE NEIGHBOR HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME VEHICLE (MODEL AND YEAR THE SAME). TURNS OUT IT IS A FAULTY SWITCH IN THE 4WD BUTTON IN THE DASH, WON'T FULLY ENGAGE, AND COULD SCATTER THE TRANSFER CASE. OUR MECHANIC HAS THE VEHICLE RIGHT NOW, HE REPLACED THE SWITCH IN THE DASH, AND ALSO PERFORMED THE RECALLS THAT WE FOUND IE: ABS & TAILGATE CABLES. *NM
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK MY VEHICLE I BEGAN COMING TO A STOP AND WAS GOING TO BEGIN BACKING UP, AT THIS TIME, THE ABS KICKED IN AND THE TRUCK LURCHED FORWARD HITTING A PARKED CAR. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THERE WAS NO PREVIOUS WARNING. IF SOMEONE HAD BEEN BETWEEN MY VEHICLE AND THE ONE HIT, THEY COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE LOT TO THE DEALER. WAS TOLD TO CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE BY THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THE TRUCK HAD 84000 MILES AND BRAKES HAD ALL BEEN REPLACED 3 MONTHS EARLIER. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS TRUCK NOW. *JB
I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY TAHOE. THE VEHICLE WAS EMITTING AN ODOR OF GASOLINE AND LEAKING GASOLINE FROM THE GAS TANK. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE MECHANIC SHOP FOR SERVICE. THE PROBLEM AREA WAS LOCATED AND DETERMINED TO BE THE FUEL MODULE CONNECTOR LEAKING GAS. *NM
DRIVING NORTH ON GARDERSTATE PARKWAY THE BRAKE LIGHT OF MY 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO CAME ON. I EXITED PARKWAY AT NORTHFIELD EXIT AND I APPLIED MY BRAKES. THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT SOFT AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AT THE END OF THE EXIT RAMP. THE LIGHT AT TILTON ROAD TURNED RED I APPLIED BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THERE IS A SUNOCO STATION ON THE CORNER WHICH I COASTED INTO. I CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD FLUID LEVEL WAS BELOW THE MIN. LINE. I ADDED FLUID INTO THE RESERVOIR. I GOT BACK INTO THE TRUCK AND APPLIED MY BRAKES. PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN. I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND NOTICED THERE WAS BRAKE FLUID RUNNING ONTO THE GROUND. NOTICED A PEP BOYS STORE ABOUT 1/2 OF A BLOCK DOWN THE ROAD. I WAITED TILL THERE WAS NO CARS COMING AND PROCEEDED OUT ONTO TILTON ROAD TOWARD PEP BOYS. DOWN SHIFTED AND APPLIED BRAKE PEDAL AS I APPROACHED STORE. THEY CHECKED THE BRAKING SYSTEM AND INDICATED THAT A BRAKE LINE WAS LEAKING FLUID. MONDAY THEY REPAIRED THE TRUCK BY REPLACING ABOUT A FIVE (5) FOOT SECTION OF BRAKE LINE AT THE TUNE OF $262.52 WOW. I DO HAVE THE OLD SECTION OF BRAKE LINE THAT WAS REMOVED. THE OLD SECTION OF BRAKE LINE IS SO HEAVILY RUSTED THE SHOP INDICATED IT WAS VERY UNUSUAL. WHEN I GOT HOME I LOOKED AT THE REPAIR AND THE REST OF THE LINE STILL IN THE TRUCK AND I AM WORRIED ABOUT CONDITION OF BRAKE LINES AND THE EXCESSIVE RUST THAT EXIST. I'M WORRIED THAT THERE MAY BE ANOTHER LEAK,RESULT MIGHT BE THAT WE ARE NOT AS LUCKY THE NEXT TIME. THE PARKWAY IS A 65 MPH ROAD AND IF I WOULD HAVE HAD TO STOP VERY FAST DOING THAT SPEED I TRULY BELIEVE I WOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP WITHOUT INJURIES. I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED CHEVY'S AND I KEPT THEM FOR GENERALLY 9 TO 10 YEARS AND I HAVE NEVER HAD A BRAKE LINE RUST OUT AS DID MY 2000 CHEVY TRUCK. I HOPE THAT THIS MATTER CAN BE INVESTIGATED. I OWN A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO (4.3) WITH 92K MILES. MY PROBLEM IS WITH THE FAULTY FUEL SENDING UNIT THAT LEFT ME STRANDED ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE GAS GAUGE INDICATED 1/2 TANK FULL. NOW THE GAUGE INDICATES EMPTY WHEN I FILL THE TANK COMPLETELY. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR THAT I THINK CHEVY SHOULD REPLACE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS UNSTABLE PROBLEM. THE FUEL GAUGE IS ERRATIC AT ALL TIMES AND NOW I GAUGE MY TRAVELS BY USING THE ODOMETER AND ALLOWING ONLY 300 MILES PER FULL TANK. *JB
DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WHEN I EXPERIENCED 90% TREAD FAILURE ON MY LEFT OUTSIDE DUAL REAR WHEEL ON MY 2000 CHEVROLET C3500 PICKUP TRUCK. THE DEFECTIVE TIRE WAS A GENERAL AMERI 550 AS, SIZE LT225/75R16. NO CRASH OR INJURIES WERE INVOLVED, BUT MY LEFT REAR FENDER WAS OBLITERATED. MILEAGE ON THE TIRE WAS 40,000 MILES. *JB

WHEN THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE ABS WARNING INDICATOR UNEXPECTEDLY ILLUMINATED AND WHEN THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED THE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS AN EXTENSIVE DELAYED RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND TO BE REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE SIMILAR FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THERE WERE TWO RECALLS RELATED TO THE DEFECT ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS 00V055000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK), AND 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED HIM THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

1) TAILGATE LATCH DOES NOT LOCK TAILGATE IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION. 2) I WAS HAULING A LOAD OF WOOD IN BED OF TRUCK WHEN THE TAILGATE UNLATCHED, RESULTING IN WOOD FALLING OUT OF TRUCK INTO TRAFFIC FOLLOWING BEHIND ME. 3) THE FAILURE HAS NOT YET BEEN CORRECTED. *NM

THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, 05V379000, REGARDING THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED, BUT THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED.
THE ENGINE IN MY 2000 CHEVY HAS A KNOCK AND TAPPING NOISE THIS HAS BEEN A ONGOING PROBLEM I HAVE TALKED TO TWO CHEVY DEALERS AND THEY SAY IT IS NORMAL BUT IT KEEPS GETTING WORSE THE MILEAGE NOW IS 76585 . *JB
2000 PICK UP, BRAKE RECALL RIGHT FRONT BRAKE PIPE AND ENSURE SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE BETWEEN PIPE AND THE BODY CROSS SILL. *TS OVER THE PAST SIX YEARS THE CONSUMER HAS RECEIVED 7-8 DIFFERENT RECALLS ON HIS VEHICLE. NO ACCIDENTS HAVE RESULTED. THE CONSUMER WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE COST OF THE TRUCK. *NM

A NHTSA RECALL, #05V379000 WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE IN SEPTEMBER 2005 CONCERNING, THE ABS HOWEVER, THE RECALL DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT OFFER A SECOND REPAIR WITHOUT CHARGE UNDER THE RECALL.

2000 K3500 SILVERADO HAS HAD THREE FAILED FUEL INJECTOR PUMPS, FUEL TRANSFER PUMP, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AT 70,000 MILES AND BOOST REGULATOR FAILED. *TS WHEN THE CONSUMER REMOVED THE ENGINE,TO EVALUATE THE DAMAGE, TO SEE IF IT COULD BE REBUILT, HE DISCOVERED THE SECOND MAIN BEARING CAP FROM THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE WAS MISSING A BOLT. *JB
EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKE SHOES WORN COMPLETELY OUT. 2000 CHEVY 1500 PICKUP TRUCK HAS FEW MILES BUT DEALER REFUSED TO FIX. DEALERS DO ADMIT IT IS A DESIGN DEFECT THAT ALLOWS THE SHOES TO RUB WHILE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN WEARING OUT THE SHOES. THEY HAVE A 'REDESIGNED PART' FOR REPLACEMENT. SINCE THE EMERGENCY BRAKES SHOULD NEVER ENGAGE WHILE IN MOTION THEY SHOULD LAST FOREVER AND ALWAYS BE FUNCTIONAL IF EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKE IS NEEDED. THE COST TO REPLACE WAS SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS BUT THAT ISN'T THE REAL ISSUE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THERE ARE PROBABLY MILLIONS OF VEHICLES OUT THERE WITH OWNERS THAT ASSUME THE BRAKE IS ENGAGE AND WORKING PROPERLY WHILE GM KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT APPARENTLY IS WILLING TO RISK LIVES TO PREVENT A RECALL. THIS LEAVE THE OWNERS AND THEIR CHILDREN NOT TO MENTION ANYONE ELSE NEAR THE VEHICLE AT RISK OF DEATH OR INJURY WHEN THE BRAKE IS NEEDED AND DOESN'T DO IT'S JOB. *JB
