DT*: THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE THROTTLE PLATE. UPDATED 5/4/2006 - WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS PRESSED IT TOOK A WHILE BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE THEN IT WOULD ACCELERATE SUDDENLY. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 30 MPH THE STEERING AND BRAKES FAILED. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IT WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO A BROKE SHAFT IN THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS ALERTED. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE FRAME FRACTURED ABOUT 2" IN FRONT OF THE TOWING PACKAGE ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES. THE DEALERSHIP ALERTED THE MANUFACTURER. THE DEALERSHIP TOOK DIGITAL PICTURES OF THE CRACKED FRAME. THE CONTACT IS ONLY TOWING 3,875 POUNDS WHICH IS UNDER THE MAXIMUM TOWING SPECIFICATIONS OF 8,000 POUNDS. GENERAL MOTORS HAS AGREED TO GIVE THE CONTACT A LOANER VEHICLE; AWAITING THEIR DECISION TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM WITHOUT CHARGE. THE MAXIMUM TOWING SPECIFICATIONS FOR A 5300 V8 IS 8,000 POUNDS WITH A MAXIMUM TONGUE WEIGHT OF 1,000 LBS. UPDATED 05/10/06
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING MY BRAKE PEDAL LOST ALL COMPRESSION - THE BRAKE LINE CRACKED FROM CONTACT RUBBING AGAINST A BEAM UNDER THE CARS PART OF THE SUSPENSION - A RECALL SERVICE WAS PERFORMED BUT WAS NOT PERFORMED RIGHT. *NM
I HAVE A 2000 CHEVROLET K1500 PICKUP WITH 43,000 MILES ON IT. THE THROTTLE HAS BEGAN TO OCCASIONALLY STICK, AND THE DEALER SAYS THAT IT IS NORMAL AND THE THROTTLE BODY HAS TO BE CLEANED AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $140. WHEN THE THROTTLE STICKS FROM A "STANDING START", THE VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD (OR BACKWARD IF IN REVERSE). I HAVE OWNED A DOZEN VEHICLES IN MY LIFE, AND NONE OF THEM HAVE EVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. YET, SERVICE ADVISORS AT WALSER CHEV SAY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MY TYPE PICKUP. I BELIEVE THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING A BRAKE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE ONLY THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE HOSE WAS REPLACED DUE TO RUST CAUSING A LEAK WHICH RESULTED IN LOSS OF BRAKES. REPLACED BRAKE LINE TO RIGHT FRONT WHEEL TO ABS BOX. TOTAL CHARGE WAS $212.05. *AK
AFTER TRAVELING ABOUT 350 MILES ON I-95 & I-26 WE EXPERIENCED A BLOWOUT ON THE REAR TIRE. IT DID 1300.00 IN BODY DAMAGE TO OUR 2000 SILVERADO 1500 P/U'S REAR FENDER. AFTER REPLACING THE TIRE WITH THE SPARE WE CONTINUED TO OUR DESTINATION WHERE WE REPLACED ALL 4 TIRES WITH NEW ONES. THERE WAS STILL APPROX 8000 MILES LEFT ON THE WARRANTY, BUT WE PURCHASED A DIFFERENT BRAND. WE SAVED THE DEFECTIVE TIRE AND SENT IT TO THE MANUFACTURER WHO CLAIMED IT WAS ROAD HAZARD DAMAGE. WE DID NOT ENCOUNTER ANY ROAD HAZARD AND MAINTAINED THE CORRECT AIR PRESSURE AND TIRE ROTATION SCHEDULE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING IN NORMAL CONDITIONS, THE FUEL GAUGE DO NOT READ PROPERLY. THE GAUGE ONLY READS HALF A TANK, REGARDLESS OF THE AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION.*AK THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILED TO HOLD. UPDATED 05/04/06. *JB
CHEVROLET SILVERADO WAS TAKEN TO DEALER IN MARCH 2006 FOR 100K SERVICE. DEALER STATED THE FUEL LINE IS SO BADLY RUSTED THAT HE COULD NOT REPLACE THE FUEL FILTER FOR FEAR OF RUPTURING THE GAS LINE. WHEN I SUGGESTED REPLACING THE ENTIRE FUEL LINE THE ESTIMATE WAS 999.90 DUE TO EXTENSIVE LABOR COST. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE PASSENGER SIDE POWER WINDOW WORKS INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES AND REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE, INCLUDING REPLACING THE MOTOR. THE REPAIRS HAVE NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
I WOULD LIKE TO NOTIFY SOMEONE THAT THE RECALL THE CHEVROLET HAS OUT # 04007 MAY APPLY TO OTHER VIN NUMBERS. MY VEHICLE DID NOT FALL INTO THE VIN BREAK , HOWEVER, THE SAME DEFECT HAS OCCURRED. CORROSION UNDER THE JACKET AND THE CABLE BREAKS IN TWO PIECES. THE LAST EIGHT OF MY VIN Y1102238. *JB
THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY CHEVY TRUCK FOR THE ABS SYSTEM. AFTER THE SERVICE MY ABS SYSTEM FAILED AND THE LIGHT REMAINS ON THAT IT IS NOT FUNCTIONING. I CALLED GM AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL.. I HAVE DRIVEN ONLY 1700 MILES SINCE THIS SERVICE WAS DONE. I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF BY GM. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE PARKING BRAKE WAS INOPERABLE. WHILE DEPRESSING THE PEDAL, IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE PARKING BRAKE WAS RUBBING ON THE REAR ROTOR. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE PARKING BRAKE AND REAR ROTOR. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V161000, REGARDING THE PARKING BRAKE. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER, IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
THERE IS A HIGH EFFORT AT THE GAS PEDAL ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS COLD. SOMETIMES THIS EFFORT IS SO GREAT THAT WHEN BACKING OR IN A PARKING LOT, I MUST APPLY FORCE THEN THE VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW IN OCTOBER OF 1999. *NM
THE ABS SYSTEM WHICH CONSISTS OF THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE (EBCM) AND THE BRAKE PRESSURE MODULATOR VALVE (BPMV) HAS GONE OUT. DEALER SAYS IT WILL COST $1500.00 FO FIX. HAPPENED 2 WEEKS AFTER RECALL ABS SPEED SENSOR WORK DONE ON VEHICLE. CONTACTED CHEVROLET AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. *NM
UNNECESSARY ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATION (ABS) AT MEDIUM AND LOW SPEEDS. THIS CONDITION RESULTS IN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES EVEN AT MEDIUM BRAKING PEDAL PRESSURE. *JB
ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING A COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE ON THE 2000 SILVERADO TRUCK. HAD TO HAVE ALL OF THE LINES REPLACED ALONG WITH THE CALIPERS. TRUCK HAD APPROXIMATELY 52590 MILES. *JB
HAVE BEEN SEEING THIS SITUATION WHEN I FILL UP MY FUEL TANK: THE MESSAGE CENTER WILL SHOW "LOW FUEL" AND THE FUEL GAUGE WILL BE ON "EMPTY" WHEN I DO FILL UP WITH FUEL. I HAVE TO MOVE THE "SHIFTER" BACK AND FORTH FROM "PARK" TO "DRIVE" A FEW TIMES IN ORDER FOR THE "MESSAGE" TO DISAPPEAR AND THE "FUEL GAUGE" SHOWING "FULL". *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ABS ENGAGED AT 3MPH WHEN BRAKE PRESSURE WAS APPLIED. THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY THE DEALER AND A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED. ALTHOUGH THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000, REGARDING THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. MY VEHICLE BECAME STUCK IN THE SNOW. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO GET MOVING THE POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED. BESIDES NOT BEING ABLE TO STEER THE PUMP ALSO ASSISTS THE BRAKES. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING, WITHOUT PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN PARK. THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL, # 05001, FOR THE SAME MODEL YEAR VEHICLE BUT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT WITHIN THE RANGE.*JB
REF: NHTSA ACTION #EO2015--------------OVER THE PAST TWO WEEKS THE THROTLE HAD BEEN STICKING ON MY 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO 5.3 ENGINE. ON FEB 5 WHILE APROCHING A LIGHT IT STUCK AT 30 MPH. AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE WOULDNT STOP AND VEHICLE CONTINUED FORWARD. EVASIVE ACTION WAS TAKEN BY DRIVING OFF INTO A FIELD AND PLACING THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL. FEB 6 THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WEED CHEVY IN BRISTOL PA AND THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY.TWO PLUGS IN THE PLATE AND THE PCV VALVE. WHEN I PAID MY BILL I NOTICED ON THE BILL THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE FLASH FOR THE MECHANIC, THAT THIS WAS A EXISTING PROBLEM. *NM

ALSO, THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THE STEERING PUMP FRACTURED WHICH RESULTED IN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST. THE HYDRO-BOOST POWER BRAKING WAS INCREASED AFTER THE BRAKING ASSIST WAS DEPLETED. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V005000, REGARDING THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS.
THE FUEL GAUGE 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HAS BEEN ACTING ERRATICALLY FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. IT WILL GO ALL THE WAY DOWN TO E AND SHOWING LOW FUEL USUALLY WHILE VEHICLE IS SITTING STILL, THEN IT WILL BOUNCE BACK TO WHERE IT SHOULD BE , I.E. 1/2 TANK. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 2000, CHEVROLET, SILVERADO AND COMING OFF THE EXIT RAMP FROM THE HIGHWAY VEHICLE LOST POWER ASSIST STEERING AND BRAKES. THIS ALMOST HAVE AN ACCIDENT AND R VEHICLE RAN OFF THE ROAD. IF THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A VEHICLE NEXT TO CONSUMER'S VEHICLE HE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AVOID HITTING IT. WHEN I GOT THE TRUCK BACK HOME AND STARTED INSPECTING IT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. BEING A LICENSED TECHNICIAN I FOUND THAT POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED. HAVING ACCESS TO REPAIR INFORMATION WAS ABLE TO FIND GMC RECALL 205010 CONCERNING THE FAILURE OF THE POWER STEERING PUMP. WHEN CONTACTING TAYLOR CHEVROLET AND TALKING TO MIKE IN SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO THIS VEHICLE, AND TO CONTACT GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEN I CALLED GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. THIS WAS THE EXACT SYMPTOM THAT THE RECALL STATED, BUT THEY TOLD ME IT DID NOT APPLY TO THIS VEHICLE. THIS FAILURE COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. SOMEONE SHOULD FIND OUT HOW MANY MORE TRUCKS WERE DRIVING WITH FAULTY POWER STEERING PUMPS BEFORE SOMEONE GOT KILLED.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ELECTRICAL GAUGES ARE INTERMITTENTLY FAILING AND GIVING INCORRECT READINGS. THE GAUGES WORK AT START UP IN THE MORNINGS, HOWEVER AFTER THE VEHICLE WARMS UP, THE GAUGES MALFUNCTION. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN CONTACTED. ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL GAUGE IN MY SILVERADO SINCE NEW WHICH GIVES INACCURATE READINGS AND NOW HAS BECOME A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000, REGARDING THE HYDRAULIC ANTI LOCK BRAKES. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. ALSO, THE VEHICLE HAS PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL GAUGE. AFTER FILLING THE VEHICLE UP THE FUEL GAUGE WILL READ EMPTY, THEN JUMP TO BEING FULL. THIS OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. CAR HAS 54,000 MILES WITH LIMITED NIGHTTIME USE. HAD TO REPLACE RIGHT HEADLIGHT MOTOR. 100 MILES LATER THE LEFT HEADLIGHT IS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. *JB
2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO ABS ACTIVATED 2 WEEKS AFTER RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED WITH NO WARNING OF ABS LIGHT. *TS THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE FRONT WHEEL ASSEMBLIES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, BUT THE REPAIR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *JB
2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 PICKUP 12/30/05 I CALLED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE ABS RECALL. 12/31 THE ABS LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON. THE DEALER COMPLETED THE RECALL WORK AND STATED THE ABS LIGHT WAS AN "ACTIVE FAILURE" CODE IN THE COMPUTER AND WAS NOT RELATED TO THE RECALL. REPAIR OF THIS FAULT WAS ESTIMATED $1,400-1900. I HAVE ALSO PAID TO HAVE THE FUEL GAUGE FIXED. IT WENT FROM EMPTY TO FULL AT RANDOM AND HAS BEEN REPORTED AS A COMMON PROBLEM BUT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES WHERE APPLIED AT 8-10PMH AND THE ABS ENGAGED, RESULTING IN THE CONTACT HAVING A CRASH. TO AVOID A REAR END COLLISION, THE CONTACT LEFT THE ROAD AND HIT AN EMBANKMENT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE POLICE DID NOT TAKE A REPORT AT THE SCENE AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. AFTER THE ACCIDENT THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL 05V379000, CONCERNING THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, THE SPEED SENSORS WERE CLEANED AND IT WAS DETERMINED THE HYDRAULIC PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE WHETHER THE BRAKE FAILURE AND ACCIDENT WERE CAUSED BY THE ABS SENSOR OR THE HYDRAULIC PUMP. THE CONTACT FELT THE PUMP SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. ADDITIONALLY, THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE REPLACED, DUE TO CORROSION, AFTER ONLY 4,000 MILES.
DT*:THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS USED TO COMPLETELY STOP THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS PRIOR TO COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, AND UPON INSPECTION THEY DISCOVERED THE BRAKE LINE WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED. ALSO, THE REPAIR SHOP PERSONNEL DETERMINED PREMATURE RUSTING OF OTHER METAL BRAKE LINES. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATES THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V161000 CONCERNING THE PARKING BRAKE. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL, BUT IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VEHICLE HAVING AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED.*AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR WHEEL SHIELDS DETERIORATED, CAUSING THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS TO WEAR OUT. HE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY TOLD HIM THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS TYPE. OF VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AT THE CONSUMERS EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, WHO WANTED MORE INFORMATION ON THE PROBLEM AND RECEIPTS OF ANY REPAIR WORK DONE ON THE VEHICLE.*AK THE SENSORS WER REPLACED ON 12-16-05 . UPDATED 01/11/06. *JB

I SAW A NEWS ARTICLE ABOUT GM VEHICLES HAVING PROBLEM WITH THE ABS AT LOW SPEEDS. I HAVE A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500, AND I HAVE TO ADMIT MY VEHICLE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS ONLY AT LOW SPEEDS. IT IS VERY CONCERNING TO ME, ESPECIALLY WHEN I WANT TO STOP AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO. THE ONGOING PROBLEM THAT I AM EXPERIENCING IS WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. AFTER THE TRUCK HAS BEEN PARKED FOR A BRIEF PERIOD OF TIME AND ONLY WHEN FIRST STARTING OUT ; I HAVE TO APPLY EXCESSIVE PRESSURE TO MAKE THE PEDAL GO DOWN. IT SEEMS AS IF IT IS STUCK. THIS CAN BE QUITE UNNERVING WHEN PARKED IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO OTHER VEHICLES . I HAVE TO TAP IT FIRMLY AND QUICKLY SO AS NOT TO MAINTAIN PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR AND ACCELERATE UNNECESSARILY. ABS CONTROL MODULE FAILURE-2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500- I HAVE BEEN THE SOLE OWNER OF ABOVE VEHICLE AND THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF OWNING IT, THE ABS LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY ACTIVATE. AFTER CLEANING, THE LIGHT WOULD GO OUT AND THEN COME BACK ON. NOW WITH LESS THAN 65,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THE ABS LIGHT IS CONSTANTLY ON, I CHECKED WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND I'M TOLD THE ABS CONTROL MODULE IS DEAD...$1300 ESTIMATE FOR REPAIRS. DT: THE CONTACT HAD NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID # 05V379000 CONCERNING ANTI LOCK BRAKES. RECALL REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. HOWEVER, THE REPAIRS HAVE NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. AT LOW SPEED THE VEHICLE STOPPED, AND THERE WAS A HOWLING NOISE FROM THE BRAKES. THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. HE RETURNED TO THE DEALER THAT PERFORMED THE RECALL REPAIRS, AND THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATES THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V379000 CONCERNING THE ABS ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL, BUT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. AS A RESULT OF THE DEFECT THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. WHILE PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY THE ABS ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE WENT THROUGH THE GARAGE DOOR. THERE WAS PROPERTY DAMAGE, BUT NO ONE SUSTAINED INJURIES. I WAS DRIVING HOME ONE NIGHT IN MY 2000 Z71 WHEN I NOTICED A BANGING SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE AIR COMPRESSOR IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK MOVING AROUND. WHEN I DETERMINED THAT WAS NOT THE SOURCE OF THE SOUND, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A FRIENDS GARAGE WHERE WE LIFTED THE REAR AND REMOVED THE REAR-END HOUSING COVER. UPON INSPECTION OF THE DIFFERENTIAL WE NOTICED THAT THE RETENTION BOLT HAD BROKEN AND THE CROSS PIN FELL OUT. THIS IN TURN CAUSED THE SPIDER GEARS TO "EXPLODE." I PURCHASED AND INSTALLED A NEW DIFFERENTIAL, $500.00. I STILL HAVE A "TICKING" NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR. I BELIEVE THAT IS DUE TO A MISSING TOOTH ON THE PINION GEAR CAUSED BY THE CROSS PIN. NOW I HAVE TO ORDER A NEW RING AND PINION GEAR SET, $300. 74,000 MILES. 14,000 OVER WARRANTY. I FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM IN THESE Z71'S. *NM
CHEVY SILVERADO Z71 4X4 IN NOVEMBER 2005, I HAD AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE ABS NOT FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY, WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE LIGHTLY APPLYING MY BRAKES THE ABS STARTED TO CHATTER AND I COULD NOT STOP FAST ENOUGH AND HIT A LIGHT POLL WITH THE RIGHT SIDE FENDER AND BUMPER. I GOT OUT TO LOOK TO SEE WHY I SLID, BUT THE SURFACE WAS CLEAN AND DRY. I WAS PUZZLED, ON THE DRIVE HOME IT HAPPENED AGAIN THIS TIME COMING TO A STOP AND AGAIN LIGHTLY APPLYING THE BRAKES THE ABS SHUTTERED, THIS TIME STOPPING INTO CROSS INTERSECTION TRAFFIC. I WAS NOW SCARED AND THE SLOWER I DROVE THE WORSE IT WAS, I APPROACHED A SCHOOL ZONE IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND A CHILD RAN ACCROSS THE STREET AND AGAIN I BRAKED BUT I COULD NOT STOP QUICK ENOUGH AND STRUCK THIS CHILD, NOT SERIOUSLY BUT ENOUGH TO KNOCK HIM DOWN. I GOT HOME PARKED THE TRUCK AND HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT SINCE. I HAVE NOT TAKEN IT TO THE SHOP BECAUSE LAST YEAR I SPENT A LOT OF MONEY AT THE CHEVY DEALER GETTING A COMPLETE BRAKE JOB, AND SEVERAL SERVICE ITEMS COSTING THOUSANDS AND I WAS JUST TAPPED OUT AND I FIGURED I WOULD WAIT TILL I GET SOME MONEY. I HEARD THE OTHER NIGHT ON THE NEWS ABOUT A RECALL ON THIS VERY ISSUE SO I CONTACTED MY DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT MY VIN NUMBER [XXX] IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL FOR THE ABS SPEED SENSOR PROBLEM. BRAKES BEGAN TO PULSATE BETWEEN 3 MPH AND 5 MPH WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE NOT TO SLOW WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP; STOP LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS, ETC. FAILURE OF THE ABS CAUSED MYSELF TO ROLL THROUGH A STOP, INTO TRAFFIC, AND INTO THE DITCH. A TEST FOR LOW SPEED ANTI-LOCK OPERATION WAS DONE. RESULTS SHOWED PROBLEM TO BE FAULTY ABS SYSTEM.
