STICKING GAS PEDAL. THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM CAUSES GAS PEDAL TO STICK. WHEN AT A STOP, A LOT OF PRESSURE IS OFTEN REQUIRED TO MOVE PEDAL. PEDAL "UNSTICKS" AND CAUSES VEHICLE TO LURCH FORWARD OR BACKWARD. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, "UNSTICKING" CAUSES TRUCK TO ACCELERATE AT A FASTER RATE THAN INTENDED. CHEVY DEALER REPLACED THROTTLE BODY ONCE (45K MILES), BUT PROBLEM HAS RETURNED (80K MILES). *AK
2 COMPLAINTS: 1. TAILGATE CABLE FAILED (BROKE) AND TAILGATE FELL OFF WHILE CLOSING IT. 2. WHEN BRAKING, IF ENCOUNTER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, ABS SEEMS TO KICK IN AND LET OFF THE BRAKES, EVEN TOUGH NO LOCK UP OCCURS. *AK
THIS IS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RELATED TO A PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION (PE03-049). OWN A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. AT APPROXIMATELY 25K MILES, BOTH TAILGATE STRAPS BROKE; THE RUBBER CASE OVER THE CABLES ALLOWED WATER IN, AND THE CABLES RUSTED. BOTH CABLES WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AT THAT TIME. AT APPROXIMATELY 52K MILES, ONE OF THE "NEW" CABLES BROKE; EXPECTING THAT THE OTHER ONE WOULD FAIL SOON, I BOUGHT TWO NEW CABLES. FORTUNATELY, NO ONE WAS INJURED WHEN BOTH CABLES BROKE THE FIRST TIME. FROM NOW ON, I INTEND TO REPLACE BOTH WHEN EVEN A SINGLE CABLE BREAKS. I DON'T BELIEVE THE CABLES SHOULD BREAK SO FREQUENTLY. IF THEY WERE MADE OF GALVANIZED STEEL OR STAINLESS STEEL THEY WOULD FARE BETTER.*AK
THE BRAKE LINE LOCATED ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE FRAME RUSTED. THE LINE WAS COVERED WITH A THIN SPRING ,AND ANY TIME IT RAINED OR THE VEHICLE WENT THROUGH WATER, THE SPRING HELD WATER RIGHT NEXT TO THE LINE, CAUSING THE LINE TO RUST. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE LINE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE CONSUMER.*AK *PH
THE FUEL GAGE ACTS ERATICLY. IT GOES FROM FULL TO LOW FUEL TO SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN. IT CONTINUES TO ACT ERATICLY.
FUEL GAUGE ACTS ERRACTICALLY. WHILE IDLING IT WILL DROP TO EMPTY AND LOW FUEL LIGHT WILL COME ON, EVEN IF THE TANK IS FULL. IT USUALLY GOES BACK UP AFTER VEHICLE BEGINS MOVING AGAIN, SOMETIMES RIGHT AWAY OR SOMETIMES IT TAKES MILES DOWN THE ROAD. I TOOK THIS PROBLEM TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS A BAD FUEL LEVEL SENSOR,AT A COST OF OVER $300.00 TO FIX IT. THIS IS A 2000 SILVERADO 1500 4X4 PICKUP. THIS SEEMS LIKE A PROBLEM WITH MANUFACTURING TO ME AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH HEARD A NOISE FROM THE REAR. AFTER ARRIVING AT DESTINATION NOTICED THE CABLE, WHICH SUPPORTED THE SPARE TIRE BROKE, AND SPARE TIRE WAS MISSING. *AK
TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLES BROKE. MY WIFE LET DOWN TAILGATE AND HAD TO CATCH THE TAILGATE BEFORE IT HIT THE BUMPER. THERE WAS NO WEIGHT ON IT. *LA
WHILE DRIVING ON DRY ROAD, AND TRAFFIC COMING TO A STOP AHEAD I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP. THE BRAKES BEGAN TO PUMP AS IF THE ABS SYSTEM WAS ENGAGED INCREASING THE STOPPING DISTANCE. I HAVE HAD BRAKE TROUBLE WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE I PURCHASED IT. ONCE BEFORE THE DEALER FOUND THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY WHEN STOPPING. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPING WITH ONLY THE FRONT BRAKES, THE REAR BRAKES WERE NOT EVEN WORKING. MY WIFE IS SCARED TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE, IT ONLY HAS 40,000 MILES. WHAT A SHAME TO HAVE A VEHICLE LIKE THIS.*AK
WHEN LOADING AN OFF ROAD VEHICLE TO THE BACK OF THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE THE TAILGATE CABLES BROKE, CAUSING THE TAILGATE TO DETACH FROM THE VEHICLE. *AK THIS CAUSED SOME DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. *TT *JB
THE POSITIVE POST BROKE OFF THE DELCO BATTERY WHICH CAME WITH THE VEHICLE WHEN IT WAS PURCHASED NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP WHICH SOLD THE VEHICLE REFUSED TO HONOR THE WARRANTY WHICH CAME WITH THE BATTERY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SOLD.*AK THE CONSUMER TOLD CHEVROLET THAT BATTERY ACID WAS LEAKING AND IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND THE BATTERY CLEARLY STATES THAT IT HAS A SIX YEAR WARRANTY AND GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD UPHOLD THAT COVERAGE. *CB *JB
GAS GUAGE APPEARS TO HAVE A SHORT IN IT,WHEN TANK IS FULLIT JUMPS BACK AND FORTH. TRUCK HAD 89K AT THAT TIME TO REPLACE IT IT WAS QUOTED 350-400. THIS APPEARS TO BE A LEMON IN WORKMANSHIP,OR POOR QUAILITY MATERIAL. I HAVE SPOOK WITH OTHER WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.*AK
I WAS UNLOADING A SNOW BLOWER IN A CRATE (ABOUT 300 LBS) FROM THE BACK OF MY TRUCK WHEN BOTH CABLES HOLDING THE GATE SNAPPED. NOW I WASN'T ON IT SO IT WAS JUST THE BLOWER WHEN THEY SNAPPED AND I WAS ABLE TO CATCH MY STEP ON THE GROUND. IF I HAD BEEN ON THE TAIL GATE WHEN THIS HAPPENED I COULD HAVE GOTTEN INJURED. BOTH CABLES HAD RUSTED ON THE INSIDE OF THE PLASTIC CASE THAT THEY ARE IN AND YOU COULD NOT HAVE SEEN IT FROM THE OUTSIDE. THIS TO ME IS A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION. *LA
FAULTY FUEL GAUGE, JUMPS FROM FULL TO EMPTY WHEN TRUCK IS IDLEING AND DURING DRIVING. TALKED WITH OTHER OWNERS AND TO LARGE COMPANIES THAT USE CHEVY TRUCKS AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS PROBLEM ONLY EXIST WITH THE CHEVY'S AND NOT GMC COUNTER PART. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS SINCE THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ADDRESSED SINCE 1998. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS AFUEL PUMP ISSUE.*AK
WHILE PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY BRAKES AND STEERING SIMULTANEOUSLY FAILED. EMERGENCY BRAKE HAD TO BE USED TO STOP THE TRUCK. THIS FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE STEERING SHAFT BREAKING. DEALERSHIP REPLACED STEERING SHAFT BUT THE PROBLEM RECURRED WITHIN THE NEXT 15,000 MILES WHILE DRIVING AT 25-35 MPH. *AK
FAILURE OF THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM AT SPEEDS BELOW 10 MPH DUE TO A BUILDUP OF CORROSION ON THE ABS SENSORS. REPAIRS WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND COST APPROXIMATELY $145. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE RAPAIR SHOP AFTER NEARLY REAR ENDING A PARKED AUTOMOBILE. JUNE, 2005: PROBLEM RETURNED AND IS STILL NOT COVEREDUNDER WARENTY OR VEHICLE RECALL EVEN THOUGH A RECALL HAS BEEN MANDATED BY THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. MILAGE ON THE VEHICLE AS OF PRESENT TIME IS APPROXIMATELY 53,500.
FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT WORK. AFTER FILLING UP GAS TANK, LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. GAUGE GOES FROM FULL TO EMPTY. FUEL GAUGE IS UNRELIABLE. IF TRIP ODOMETER IS NOT RESET AT TIME OF FILL-UP, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH FUEL I HAVE LEFT IN TANK. IF I MISCALCULATE, I COULD RUN OUT OF GAS WITHOUT NOTICE AND THIS COULD CAUSE A DANGEROUS SITUATION. *LA
WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT WITH THE TRUCK I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKES DID NOT SLOW THE TRUCK DOWN AT ALL AND I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE A LARGE ENOUGH CURB AND SLOW ENOUGH SPEED FOR IT TO STOP. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED A FAILED ELECTRONIC BRAKING CONTROL MODULE AND FRONT RIGHT ABS SPEED SENSOR. AFTERWARDS THE ABS WAS COMING ON AT LOW SPEED WHEN IT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN AND THE DEALER SUBSEQUENTLY REPLACED THE FRONT LEFT ABS WHEEL SENSOR SINCE IT'S OUTPUT WAS OUT OF SPECIFICATION. THE FACT THE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED DUE TO BAD COMPUTER PARTS IS OF REAL HIGH CONCERN TO ME AND OTHERS AROUND THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE SAFETY. THE FAILURE MODE OF THE ABS COMPUTER COMPONENTS SHOULD NEVER PREVENT VEHICLE BRAKING. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CHEVY TO HAVE THE FAILED PARTS ANALYZED AS TO HOW THEY COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING. THEY HAVE DENIED MY REQUEST. *LA
WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE ABS ACTIVATED, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP AND SUBSEQUENTLY HIT A PARKED CAR. *AK *JB *NLM
SEAT BELT LOCKS IN THE RETRACTING POSITION. *AK THE SEAT BELT WAS REPLACED WITH A REDESIGNED ONE BUT FAILED ONE DAY LATER. *NLM *PH
WHILE WASHING VEHICLE I STEPPED ON TAILGATE TO EXIT CARGO BOX AREA AND BOTH TAIL GATE SUPPORT STRAPS SNAPPED. TAILGATE DROPPED ,AND I HIT MY HEAD ON TAILGATE AND THEN FELL ONTO THE GROUND. THE GENTLEMAN WAITING TO WASH HIS VEHICLE CAME TO MY ASSITANCE AND HELPED ME GET UP. AFTER THE INCIDENT I WAS OFF WORK FOR FOUR DAYS DUE TO BACK INJURY AND HEAD INJURY. WHEN I WENT TO DEALERSHIP TO BUY REPLACEMENT CABLES FOR TAILGATE, NO MENTION OF ANY POSSIBLE DEFECT OR RECALL WAS MENTIONED AND I PAID FOR REPLACEMENT CABLES. REPLACEMNT CABLES WERE THE NEWER TYPE THAT IS SUPPOSE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. POSSIBLE LAWSUIT IS PENDING BASED ON THE FACT THAT THIS WAS A KNOW PROBLEM, MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED AT PURCHASING DEALERSHIP SINCE NEW AND NO MENTION OF THIS POSSIBLE PROBLEM WAS EVERY MENTIONED DURING NUMEROUS SERVICEINGS.*AK
I REARENDED A VEHICLE THAT WAS SITTING STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 40-45 MPH, AND NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED. I WAS SHIFTED IN THE VEHICLE AND HAVE KNEE AND BACK PROBLEMS. *LA
MY 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO WITH 75000 MILES TRANSMISION WOULD NOT SHIFT FROM 2ND GEAR TO 3RD GEAR. THE 3RD AND 4TH GEAR PLATE IS BURNED OUT BECAUSE CHEVY MAKES THIS PART OF A PLASTIC RESIN INSTEAD OF A ALUMINUM PLATE.
WHILE DRIVING MY TRUCK ON THE FREEWAY, THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT SHIFT HIGHER THAN 2ND GEAR, WHILE IN (D). I HAVE TO SLOW DOWN AND DRIVE OFF THE FREEWAY. THIS VEHICLE HAD ALL THE SCHEDULED SERVICES AT MY LOCAL DEALER AND THIS TRUCK WAS DRIVEN LIKE A CAR, NO TOWING, NO HAULING. BUT, AT 49K THE TRANSMISSION LOCKS UP. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A $29K TRUCK THAT IS 3 YRS. OLD! RIGHT NOW THE SERVICE CHARGE IS $800 AND THAT IS TO PULL THE TRANSMISSION TO FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG.
I OWN A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO 4X4. I HAVE A CONTINUING PROBLEM WITH THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. THE TRUCK HAS A PROBLEM STOPPING AT SLOW SPEEDS. WHEN I DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AT SLOW SPEED TO STOP THE ANTI LOCKS START TO RELEASE AS IF THE WHEELS WERE LOCKING UP. THIS CAUSES ME TO EITHER GO THRU THE STOP SIGN OR TO COME VERY CLOSE TO RUNNING INTO WHAT EVER IS IN FRONT OF ME. THE BRAKES EVENTUALLY STOP THE TRUCK BUT I HAVE HAD SOME CLOSE CALLS. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER AND HAD A RIGHT FRONT WHEEL SENSOR REPLACED. THIS HELPED AT FIRST. THE PROBLEM HAS STARTED TO SURFACE AGAIN. I WILL HAVE TO MAKE ANOTHER VISIT TO THE DEALER, WHICH IS VERY COSTLY, $300 + PER VISIT. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WITHOUT WARNING IS VERY DANGEROUS. DOES THE NHTSB PLAN ON DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM? I KNOW OF A COWORKER THAT HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND ALMOST WREAKED HIS TRUCK. THANKS ET. *JB
BRAKES FAIL AT LOW SPEED, TRY TO GO INTO ANTI-LOCK. CHANGED COMPLETE BRAKES,ROTORS,PADS ETC. ON ALL FOUR(4) WHEELS OF THE VEHICLE. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. SCHEDULED FOR RECHECK SEPTEMBER 30/03 FOR REVIEW OF HOSES AND LINES ALSO WILL PUT ON COMPUTOR FOR FAULT READINGS. TRUCK CRASHED INTO A WOOD PILE AT OUR SUMMER HOME NO PERSONNAL INJURIES BUT SOME PAINT SCRATCHING. DISCONNECTED THE FUSE FOR THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES HAD NO PROBLEM WITH BRAKES FAILING JUST THAT ABS LIGHT AND HAND BRAKE LIGHT STAYED ON ALL THE TIME. PUT THE FUSE BACK IN AND PROBLEM STILL EXISTS THIS IS WHY IT WILL BE RECHECKED SEPTEMBER 30/03 TO READ FAULTS AS THEY ARE STILL FAILING. VERY SCAREY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN NO BRAKES AT LOW SPEED.
THE INTERIOR OF THE TRUCK CAUGHT ON FIRE AND THE VEHICLE BURNED UP AFTER BEING PARKED FOR 9 1/2 HOURS. IT WAS UNDETERMINED AS TO WHERE THE FIRE ORIGINATED. *NLM CHEVROLET CLAIMED THAT THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, AIR BAG, OR SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM). *SCC *JB
WHILE ENTERING VEHICLE THE DRIVER'S KEYS FELL BETWEEN THE CONSOLE AND THE SEAT. WHILE TRYING TO RETRIEVE THE KEYS, THE SEAT STRUCTURE CUT THE DRIVER'S HAND. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *NLM
MY ENGINE STALLS AT LEAST 2 TO 3 TIMES A MONTH, NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE BECAUSE IT IS AN EXPENSIVE PROBLEM... AND IT IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT.... *TR
BRAKE ROTORS ARE LOSING THE PLATING, AND BRAKE PADS ARE FROZEN ON THE REAR WHEELS. PREVIOUSLY, VEHICLE WAS EXAMINED BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC AFTER THE CONSUMER FELT A PULSING AND VIBRATION COMING FROM THE WHEELS ,AND THE AFOREMENTIONED PROBLEM WAS DISCOVERED. MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE PROBLEM.*AK
BACK IN THE FALL OF 2003 I HAD AN INSODENT WITH THE ABS BRAKES ON MY 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO GOING CRAZY. WHEN I WOULD GO TO STOP EVERYTHING WAS OK TILL THE TRUCK HIT 5 MILES AND HOUR THEN THEY WOULD ACTIVATE AND AT TIMES WOULD NOT STOP. THEY WOULD ALSO LOCK UP AND THE TRUCK WOULD KEEP MOVING WITH MY FOOT ON OR OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT WAS TO EASE OFF THE PETALL AND HIT THE PEDAL HARD AND AT TIMES THIS WOULD KNOT WORK ON THE FIRST TRY. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO MY LOCAL GOODYEAR SERVICE STATION AND HAD THEM CHECK IT OUT. THEY DID NOT SEE A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS SYTEM BUT THEY SAID THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE ROTORS BECUSE THEY WERE RUSTED VERY BAD . I DID THAT AND A IT DID NOT FIX THE PROPLEM. SO I CONTACTED MY LOCAL GM DELAERSHIP AND ASKED THEM IF THEY COULD LOOK AND SEE IF THERE WAS ANY RECALLS OR PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS SYTEM THAT I WAS NOT INFORMED OFF THEY SAID NO THERE WAS NOT. WHILE ON VACTION VISTING MY PARENTS IN ANOTHER STATE I WENT TO A GM DEALERSHIP AND HAD THEM TAKE A LOOK AT IT AND AFTER HOOKING IT UP TO THE COMPUTER THEY SAID IT COULD BE THE SPEED SENSOR OR THE ABS MODULE. SO I HAD THEM REPLACE THE SPEED SENSOR AND THEY ALSO DID SOME OTHERE REPAIRS ON THE TRUCK AS WELL BUT AT THIS TIME I CAN NOT TELL YOU WHAT THEY DONE BECUSE I DO NOT HAVE ACCSESS TO THE BILL. AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE FRONT PADS IN ABOUT 3 TO 4 MONTHS. EVERYTHING WAS GOING FINE THEN IT STARTED DOING IT AGAIN AND IT HAD BEEN 3 TO 4 MONTHS SINCE I HAD THE SPEED SENSOR CHANGED SO I TOOK THE TRUCK TO PEP BOYS . AT PEP BOYS I HAD THEM CHECK THE FRONT TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS AND THEY DID SO. THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. NOW I WOULD TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT AGAIN AND REPLACE THE ABS MODUEL BUT AS OF RIGHT NOW I HAVE INVESTED OVER $900 IN THIS PROBLEM. I HERD THE ABS MODULE COST OVER $650 NOT TO MENTION THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE OF$89 AND LABOR. AND I HERD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL AND I CAN NOT FIND OUT ANY INFORMATION ON IT.
WHEN MAKING A TURN IN ANY DIRECTION, THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE IT'S POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, AND CAUSE THE CONSUMER TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK IN ORDER TO STOP. *AK THERE WAS NO WARNING. *SCC THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE POWER STEERING PUMP. *JB
WHEN BRAKING BRAKE PEDAL WOULD BE SOFT AND MAKE A LOUD NOISE. MECHANIC INDICATED THEATPROBLEM COULD BE THE BRAKE ROTORS WHICH WERE WEARING OUT AND NEEDED TO BE CHANGED.*AK
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. CONSUMER WAS TOLD BY SERVICE WRITER FOR CHEVROLET THAT ABS BRAKES PREMATURE ENGAGEMENT WAS THE REASON WHY ABS BRAKES SURGED.*AK
I OWN A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO THAT HAS HAD TWO BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER FAILURES. I HAVE SEEN INTERNET POSTINGS OF OTHERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER COULD FAIL IF THE DESIGN IS DEFECTIVE, LEADING TO AN ACCIDENT.*AK
SERVICE 4WD INDICATOR MESSAGE LIGHT ON, BUT WHEN SCANNED NO CODES ARE PRESENT. 4WD FUNCTIONS IN ALL RANGES AND ONCE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED MESSAGE IS CLEARED. IT WILL COME ON AGAIN IN APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES, AND SOMETIMES A IT WILL PASS BEFORE IT GOES ON AGAIN. *LA

AT FIRST I THOUGHT MAYBE WET ROAD BUT IT NOWS DOES IT EVERY MORNING WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT THE END OF MY ROAD DEALER SAID I NEED TO REPLACE FRONT WHEEL BEARING. I WAS SITTING ON THE TAILGATE OF MY 2000 SILVERADO PICKUP WITH MY GIRLFRIEND, WHEN BOTH CABLES SNAPPED AND THE TAILGATE DROPPED AND WE FELL TO THE GROUND. THE TAILGATE RECEIVED A DENT FROM HITTING THE BUMPER. LUCKILY, WE WERE NOT HURT, BUT NOW I DON'T FEEL SAFE LOADING MY LAWN TRACTOR ON THE TAILGATE RAMPS. BOTH CABLES APPEARED RUSTED WITHIN THEIR PLASTIC SHEATHING AND SNAPPED IN THE MIDDLE WHERE THE CABLE BENDS WHEN TAILGATE IS CLOSED.*AK

TAILGATE CABLES RUSTED THROUGH. TAILGATE WAS PUT IN UPRIGHT POSITION AND THE TAILGATE CAME OFF OF THE TRUCK BEING DRAGGED BY A DECENT CABLE. CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE SIDE OF THE TAILGATE AS WELL AS THE HINGES THAT ONCE HELD IT. *LA
I AM WRITING TO PROTEST THE RECENT DECISION BY CHEVROLET TO NOT ASSIST ME IN THE REPAIRING OF MY TRUCK DUE TO WHAT I FEEL IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. I OWN A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. I WENT TO GET MY FIRST INSPECTION STICKER BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURERS TWO-YEAR INSPECTION STICKER WAS OUT OF DATE. THE TRUCK FAILED INSPECTION BECAUSE THE REAR PARKING BRAKE SHOES WERE WORN AND THE PARKING BRAKE WOULD NOT WORK. I WAS PUZZLED HOW THIS COULD BE WHEN I HAVE NEVER USED MY PARKING BRAKE. I LIVE IN TEXAS AND HAVE NOT HAD A REASON TO USE IT. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE PARKING BRAKE SHOES WERE WORN BECAUSE THE CLIPS THAT HOLDS THEM IN PLACE HAD FAILED. HE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL BULLETIN (REFERENCE NUMBER 02-05-26-002 & 02-05-26-001) ABOUT THIS PARKING BRAKE ISSUE AND ADVISED ME TO CALL CHEVROLET. I DID. I WORKED WITH GREG SYNDER AT CHEVROLETS CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND MY SERVICE REQUEST NUMBER WAS 1-126-315-169. I, FROM THE START, VIEWED THIS AS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. IN SHORT, CHEVROLET WOULD NOT FIX OR ASSIST IN THE COST OF THE REPAIRS BECAUSE THEY FELT THAT THIS WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. ALSO THEY NOTED THAT MY TRUCK WAS OUT OF THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY (3 YEARS/36000 MILES). I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH THE DECISION. FIRST, HOW CAN THIS BE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR IF THE PARKING BRAKE HAS NEVER BEEN USED? ALSO, WHO REPLACES THEIR PARKING BRAKE SHOES ON A VEHICLE THAT IS 3 YEARS OLD AND THE PARKING BRAKE AGAIN HAS NEVER BEEN USED? EVEN IF IT HAS BEEN USED, THE PARKING BRAKE SHOULD BE ONE OF THE LAST ITEMS ON A VEHICLE THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I AM REPLACING THE PARKING BRAKE SHOES BEFORE I REPLACE MY BRAKES WHICH I USE EVERYDAY. I FEEL THIS MATTER IS A SAFETY ISSUE BESIDES BEING A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. PROBLEMS WITH 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO ROTORS, WHEELS, TAILGATE STRAP, DRIVE SHAFT, AND 4-WHEEL DRIVE.*MR NAR SEE ODI#10037613 ES03-006296. AT 12000 MILES BOTH REAR ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED, 2000 MILES LATER BOTH FRONT ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED. A CLUNKING SOUND WAS HEARD IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES IT EITHER THE REAR SUSPENSION OR DRIVE SHAFT. ALL FOUR OF THE VEHICLE'S WHEELS HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 6000 MILES BECAUSE THEY WERE RUSTING. THE TAILGATE STRAP BROKE AT 17000 MILES. WHEN THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WAS ENGAGED THERE WAS A GROWLING NOISE. *NM
TOTAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHUTDOWN DUE TO FAILURE/ACTIVATION OF PASSLOCK SECURITY SYSTEM ON 2000 CHEVROLET K2500 CREW CAB (7.4L ENGINE/AUTOMATIC/4X4) WHILE VEHICLE IS BEING OPERATED AT HIGHWAY SPEED. ENGINE CAN NOT BE RESTARTED WITHOUT BRINGING VEHICLE TO COMPLETE STOP AND PLACING SHIFTER IN "PARK". LOSS OF LIFE, SERIOUS INJURY, AND/OR LOSS OF PROPERTY CAN OCCUR DURING PERFORMANCE OF BRINGING VEHICLE TO COMPLETE STOP WITHOUT ENGINE POWER AVAILABLE. INCIDENT OCCURRED TWICE AND WITHOUT WARNING ON 8/29/03 WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. DEALER ATTEMPTED REPAIRS ON 8/31/03 WITH GUIDANCE FROM CHEVROLET TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE. SUITABILITY OF REPAIR NOT GUARANTEED BY DEALER. OWNER REQUESTED DEALER TO DISABLE PASSLOCK SYSTEM. DEALER COULD NOT DISABLE SYSTEM AND INFORMED OWNER THAT CHEVROLET CORPORATE WOULD NOT PROVIDE DEALER WITH INFORMATION ON HOW TO SERVICE, REPAIR, OR DISABLE PASSLOCK SYSTEM. DEALER AND CHEVROLET TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE DETERMINED THAT IGNITION SWITCH COULD BE AT FAULT AND CAUSING VOLTAGE CUTOFF TO PASSLOCK, THEREBY ACTIVATING PASSLOCK. DEALER REPLACED IGNITION SWITCH. OWNER TOOK POSSESSION OF VEHICLE AND DROVE 475 MILES AT WHICH POINT COMPLETE ELECTRICAL FAILURE OCCURRED ON 8/1/03 AND AT HIGHWAY SPEED. VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER BRINGING TO COMPLETE STOP, PUTTING TRANSMISSION IN "PARK", AND TIGHTENING BATTERY POSITIVE ELECTRICAL CABLE. APPARENT CAUSE OF PASSLOCK ACTIVATION WAS LOSS OF BATTERY VOLTAGE. ORIGINAL DIAGNOSIS MADE BY DEALER AND CHEVROLET TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE INCORRECT - IGNITION SWITCH NOT AT FAULT. REPEATED ATTEMPTS BY OWNER TO CONTACT CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER ON OPERATIONAL PARAMETERS OF PASSLOCK SYSTEM AND DISABLING INSTRUCTIONS UNSUCCESSFUL. OWNER NOTIFIED BY CHEVROLET THAT "WE (GENERAL MOTORS) WILL NO LONGER ADDRESS ADDITIONAL MESSAGES ON THIS SUBJECT." DEALER COOPERATIVE, BUT ALSO UNABLE TO ASSIST FURTHER. *NLM
I HAVE A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE I WAS SITTING ON THE TAILGATE, THE STRAP BROKE AND MY TAILGATE IS NOW SPRUNG. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO SAID ALL THEY COULD DO WAS SELL ME A NEW STRAP. I PURCHASED THE STRAP AND NOW ONE STRAP IS LONGER THAN THE OTHER STRAP. I HAVE THE OLD STRAP AND IT BROKE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE. I HURT MY HIP WHEN IT HAPPENED. *LA

VEHICLE DISPLAYS INTERMITTENT BRAKE FAILURE AT VERY SLOW SPEED. BRAKE PEDAL FEELS NORMAL. CONSUMER CAN HEAR ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATING, BUT VEHICLE WILL NOT SLOW DOWN. DEALER CANNOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE ENGINE DEVELOPED A SKIP WHILE ON VACATION. I BROUGHT IT TO A GARAGE, THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS CLOGGED FUEL INJECTORS. HE SHOWED ME SOME CLOGGED INJECTORS FROM ANOTHER 2000 SILVERADO THAT HE HAD REPAIRED THE PREVIOUS WEEK. HE CLAIMED THAT RUST WAS IN THE GAS TANK, AND THE FUEL PUMP "SANDBLASTED" THE RUST THROUGH THE FUEL FILTER AND INTO THE FUEL INJECTORS. IT TURNS OUT THAT MY TRUCK HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. HE REPLACED THE FUEL INJECTORS (ALL 8) AND CLEANED THE FUEL RAILS. HE INSTALLED A NEW FUEL FILTER. THIS COST OVER $1,100. AFTER RTURNING FROM VACATION, I THOUGHT I SHOULD FIND THE CAUSE OF THE RUST IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. I TOOK THE GAS TANK OUT AND DISCOVERED THE PLASTIC GAS TANK WAS FULL OF RUST. I TIPPED THE EL PUMP ASSEMBLY UPSIDE DOWN, AND A GREAT QUANTITY OF RUSTY GASOLINE POURED OUT. I TOOK THIS ASSEMBLY APART AND DISCOVERED THAT THE FUEL PUMP MOTOR ITSELF (A SMALL STEEL CANISTER DEVICE) WAS A BALL OF RUST. THE PUMP EVIDENTLY IS NOT GALVANIZED OR PLATED. THE PUMP MOTOR IS THE ONLY STEEL COMPONENT IN THE TANK. THE TANK ITSELF CANNOT RUST. THE RUST FROM THE PUMP WAS FORCED INTO THE FUEL SYSTEM, CAUSING THE CLOGGED FUEL INJECTORS. THE PRICE OF THE PUMP, NOT COUNTING LABOR, IS $409.00. *AK
