WHILE DRIVING AT 45MPH CONSUMER HAD A FRONT COLLISION ,AND NEITHER OF THE FRONT BAGS DEPLOYED. *AK
WE ARE BUYING A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. WE HAVE HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED ONCE, AND IT IS HAVING PROBLEMS AGAIN! WE'VE TAKEN IT IN TO THE DEALER, WHO SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THEY ALSO SAID THIS TWICE BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT THE FIRST TIME. NOW IT'S ACTING UP AGAIN, AND THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. I'M SURE IT WILL GO OUT AGAIN, IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME. I ALSO KNOW SOMEONE WITH 2002 CHEVY TRUCK, AND THEY HAVE HAD THEIR TRANSMISSION EITHER CHECKED OR REPLACED ALREADY. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE TRANSMISSIONS BEING USED ARE NOT HEAVY-DUTY ENOUGH TO LAST. I'M WORRIED, BECAUSE OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY IS RUNNING LOW, AND I JUST KNOW THAT THE TRANSMISSION WILL GO OUT AFTER THE WARRANTY IS UP. IF THE TRANSMISSIONS BEING USED ARE NOT THE CORRECT ONE FOR THIS TRUCK, I THINK A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED. IT IS NOT FAIR FOR THE BUYERS TO BE STUCK WITH THIS PROBLEM. CHECK THE STATS AT YOUR DEALERSHIPS... I'M WILLING TO BET THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF TRUCKS BEING LOOKED AT FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. ALSO, WHEN WE TOOK THE TRUCK IN THE LAST TIME, WE NOTICED A DIFFERENCE IN POWER. IT SEEMS THAT THE TRUCK DOES NOT HAVE THE POWER IT HAD BEFORE, ESPECIALLY WHEN TOWING OR LOADED. WE ARE WONDERING IF THE DEALER COULD HAVE "TURNED THE ENGINE DOWN" TO COMPENSATE FOR THE TRANSMISSION? IF SO, THIS IS STILL NOT FAIR, BECAUSE WE BOUGHT THAT TRUCK FOR IT'S POWER, NOT TO HAVE IT TURNED DOWN JUST TO MAKE THE TRANSMISSION LAST. PLEASE ADVISE US ON WHAT WE CAN DO. THE TRUCK HAS INTERMITTENTLY HAD BRAKE PROBLEMS SINCE IT WAS NEW. WHAT WILL OCCUR IS WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES BELOW 20 MPH THE PEDAL WILL FADE TO THE FLOOR AND YOU WILL HEAR THE ABS KICKING IN. THE TRUCK WILL TAKE A VERY LONG TIME TO STOP. THIS OCCURS ONCE A MONTH AND HAS NOW STARTED TO OCCUR WEEKLY IF NOT DAILY. WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE THE TRUCK.
FUEL MODULE IN THE GAS TANK WAS FAULTY AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. THE NEW MODULE (KI 3.107) WHICH WAS AN UPDATED MODEL WAS INSTALLED AS THIS WAS A FREQUENT PROBLEM FOR THE SILVERADO PICKUPS. MINE IS A 2000, VIN [XXX]. THE FAULTY MODULE RESULTED IN BLOWING A 20 AMP FUSE MULTIPLE TIMES. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP REQUIRED SEVERAL HOURS OF TROUBLE SHOOTING AND COMPANY CONSULTATION TO LEARN THAT THE TANK MODULE WAS THE PROBLEM AS THIS IS A FREQUENT PROBLEM, SO THEY REPLACED IT WITH AN IMPROVED VERSION, BUT SINCE MY PICKUP HAD 50,000 MILES ON IT I HAD TO PAY THE FULL PRICE OF THE MODULE INSTALLATION. I FEEL THAT THIS SITUATION OF AN ELECTRICAL WIRE RUNNING INTO THE GAS TANK TO A COMPONENT PART THAT HAS FREQUENTLY SHORTED OUT PRESENTS A REAL DANGER. I REQUEST THIS BE INVESTIGATED FOR A POSSIBLE RECALL. I HAVE VERBALLY BEEN DENIED ANY HELP WITH THE COST OF THIS BY THE CHEVROLET MOTOR DIVISION CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER, COMPLAINT #1-131209176. POWER ASSIST WENT OUT ON STEERING AND BRAKES. *AK
DT THE BRAKE SYSTEM WOULD ACTIVATE AT 3.7 MPH AND IT WOULD NOT STOP. THE CONSUMER HIT A WALL. THE VEHICLE WOULD MAKE A GROWLING NOISE INDICATING THAT THE ABS WAS NOT WORKING. THIS STARTED ON JAN 1, 2001. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TWICE AND THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. *AK *MR THE DEALER REPLACED THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. *JB
CONSUMER HAVING PROBLEMS WITH RACK AND PINION BRACKET.*AK
WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED THEY JERKED AND WERE NOT STOPPING THE VEHICLE EFFICIENTLY, THERE WAS ALSO A CLANKING NOISE NOTICED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. DEALER WAS CONSULTED - HE STATED THAT THE PEOPLE WHO ROTATED THE TIRES TORQUED THEM TOO MUCH. WENT BACK TO DEALER WHO SUPPLIED THE TIRES - THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE LININGS ON THE FRONT THINKING THIS WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM - IT DIDN'T. THEY THEN PULLED THE ROTORS AND FOUND THAT THE ROTORS WERE BASICALLY FALLING APART - THE METAL WAS JUST FALLING OFF. FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED. WITHIN A WEEK THE BACK ROTORS WERE DOING THE SAME - TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL GARAGE, BECAUSE THE BRAKES WERE NOT FUNCTIONING VERY WELL. THE REAR ROTORS WERE IN THE SAME IF NOT WORSE CONDITION. CHEVY WAS CONTACTED. THEY DID NOT WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH THEIR DEALER SERVICE MANAGER, BACKED UP THE COMPLAINT (WE TOOK ONE OF THE ROTORS TO THE SERVICE MANAGER TO SHOW HIM. THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN THIS PROBLEM - SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T BE SURE THE ROTORS CAME OFF OF THEIR VEHICLE. THEY ALSO DID NOT SHOW ANY UNDERSTANDING OF THE SERIOUSNESS OF NOT HAVING BRAKES - THEIR ATTITUDE WAS VERY DISCONCERTING. *LA
IN REGARD TO THE GM TAILGATE INVESTIGATION I EXPERIENCED A FAILURE IN THE CABLE ON THE LEFT SIDE, 2000 2500 SILVERADO. THERE WAS A MINOR ABRASION TO THE PLASTIC COATING APPROXIMATELY MIDWAY BETWEEN THE ANCHOR POINTS. ROAD SALT APPEARS TO HAVE PENETRATED TO THE WIRES THAT COMPRISED THE CABLE AND CORRODED THEM TO THE FAILURE POINT. CABLE BROKE WHILE LOADING A LAWN TRACTOR <> 700 POUNDS. NO OTHER DAMAGE, NO INJURIES, RIGHT SIDE CABLE HELD THE LOAD AFTER LEFT SIDE FAILURE. NO INDICATION OF PROBLEM PRIOR TO BREAKAGE. INCIDENT DATE IS ESTIMATED. THANKS . *AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT BOTH TAILGATE SUPPORT BRACKETS BROKE SIMULTANEOUSLY WHILE STANDING ON THE TRUCK BED. THE CONSUMER WAS INJURED AS A RESULT. *AK *SCC *JB
THE TRUCK FAILED STATE INSPECTION BECAUSE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILED TO HOLD THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT IF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS NOT USED REGULARLY IT WOULD WEAR OUT AND THE DEBRIS WOULD DESTROY THE ROTORS. THERE IS CURRENTLY AN INVESTIGATION ON THIS ISSUE PE03057 BUT IT WAS REGARDING MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. THE FAILURE ALSO AFFECTED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. *JB 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO FAILED STATE INSPECTION BECAUSE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILED TO HOLD. THE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT IF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IS NOT USED REGULARLY IT WOULD WEAR OUT. FAILURE OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ALSO AFFECTED THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.*MR
TAILGATE CABLES HAVE BROKEN, RESULTING IN LOAD FALLING OFF THE TRUCK, AND MYSELF AS WELL.*AK
DT: CONTACT STATES THAT ABS STARTED FAILING AT APPROXIMATELY 37000. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LEWIS CHEVROLET, THEY WOULD NOT WARRANT THE WORK THAT WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. *NM
DT: THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS. THERE IS NHTSA RECALL O5V379000 CONCERNING ABS BRAKES. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMERS VIN AND STATE WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER FIRST STARTED EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE IN JULY 2003. WHEN THE CONSUMER TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY HAD TO CHANGE THE ENTIRE WHEEL ASSEMBLY. THERE WERE NO ACCIDENTS.*AK *JB
2000, CHEVROLET SILVERADO K1500 TRUCK - REAR BRAKE ROTORS FAILED AT 14,000 MILES ON NEW VEHICLE PURCHASE. REPLACED BY DEALER, AND FAILED AGAIN AFTER ONLY 9,000 MILES. ROTORS RUSTED FROM THE INSIDE OF METAL OUTWARD. APPEARS THAT REAR BRAKE DESIGN OR ROTOR PARTS QUALITY IS DEFECTIVE. NORMAL EXPECTED LIFE OF REAR BRAKES IS TYPICALLY 50,000 TO 75,000 MILES. DEALER CONFIRMS THAT GM HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL. CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE BUT TO NO AVAIL AT THIS POINT.*AK
WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES AT A RED LIGHT ON A DRY ROAD, THE ABS KICKED IN AND THE VEHICLE WENT THROUGH THE RED LIGHT HALFWAY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME. A COUPLE DAYS LATER, THE CONSUMNER ENTERED A ROAD BUT TRIED TO STOP ON MAIN ROAD AND WENT PARTWAY INTO THE LANE ON THE MAIN ROAD. MAYBE A WEEK OR SO LATER , THE CONSUMER ALMOST RAN INTO SOMEONE AT A STOP SIGN WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE DEALER REPAIRED THIS BUT THE PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN. *TT THE BRAKES WOULD LOCK UP WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 8600K MILES. *SC *JB
CONSUMER STATES THE REAR FRAME BROKE, LAST YEAR WAS FIXED. AGAIN, THIS YEAR LEFT REAR VEHICLE CRACKED. DEALER NOTIFIED, TOOK PICTURES. *AK
HAD TO HAVE BRAKES REPLACED ON 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO. ROTORS WERE RUSTED OUT. HAVE NEVER HAD ROTORS RUST OUT ON A VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAD ONLY APPROX. 35,000 MILES ON IT. COST ME FOUR TIMES AS MUCH AS I EXPECTED FOR THE BRAKE JOB. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS SYSTEM ENGAGED ON DRIVE SURFACES ON LOW SPEED STOPS; THE FAILURE MADE THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO STOP. THE CONTACT REFERENCED RECALL 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK) BUT WAS INFORMED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET K3500. THE CONTACT STATED THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE FIFTEEN TIMES AND THE PASSENGER SIDE HANDLE TWICE. THE CONTACT STATED THE BARREL WHERE THE SPRING MOUNTED AROUND THE HANDLE BROKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE ENTIRE DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM AND DOOR HANDLE WERE REPLACED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PART WAS FRAGILE AND WOULD CONTINUE TO BREAK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 161,000. UPDATED 5/9/11 *CN
THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT. DRIVER IMPACTED THE STEERING WHEEL, AND DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT DIDN'T RETRACT.*AK *PH *JB
I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE ROTORS ON MY 2000 CHEVROLET TRUCK. AFTER 18,600 MILES ALL FOUR ROTORS HAVE STATED TO FALL APART. THE SURFACE WERE THE PAD CONTACT HAVE GREAT AMOUNT OF CORROSION AND THE ROTOR MATERIAL FLAKED OFF. SOME HAD VOIDS ABOUT TWO INCHES IN DIAMETER AND DEEP ENOUGH THAT THE PADS NO LONGER MADE CONTACT WITH THE SURFACE OF THE ROTOR. THE MATERIAL THAT RUSTED OFF GOT IMBEDDED INTO THE PADS SO THEY WERE LESS EFFECTIVE ON THE REMAINING SURFACE MATERIAL OF THE ROTOR. I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE PROBLEM WHEN THE TRUCK DID NOT WANT TO STOP PROPERLY. I HAD MY LOCAL GARAGE CHECK THE BRAKES AND THEY INFORMED ME ABOUT THE ROTORS. THEY REBUILT THE REAR BRAKES. I THEN TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE LOCAL CHEVY GARAGE AND THEY REPLACED THE FRONT AT NO COST.*AK
A PERSON WEIGHING APPROXIMATELY 200 POUNDS WAS SITTING ON THE TAILGATE WHEN THE CABLES BROKE, AND CAUSED THE TAILGATE TO DETACH FROM THE VEHICLE. *AK *TT *JB
ABS MODULE BAD, NO ANTILOCK BRAKES, THE ABS LIGHT ON DASH IS ON CONSTANTLY. DEALER SAYS PART IS $800 AND ONLY AVAILAIBLE AT GM. SAME WITH FUEL PUMP/SENDING UNIT, $350 ONLY AVAILIABLE GM, STEERING COLUMN KNOCKS, BOTH SUPPORT CABLES ON TAILGATE BAD ALTHOUGH RECALL COMING TOO LITTLE TOO LATE, AND THE THROTTLE BODY STICKS ARE CLOSED.*AK
WHILE PULLING INTO DRIVEWAY ABS SYSTEM ENGAGED AND BRAKES FAILED. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
I HAVE A 2000 MODEL CHEVY TRUCK, AND MY TAILGATE STRAPS HAVE BROKEN WITHOUT WARNING ON 2 OCCASIONS. MY FATHER HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HIS 2000 MODEL GMC SIERRA. BOTH OF OUR TRUCKS HAVE BAD TAILGATE DAMAGE NOW, AND HIS HAS SOME BODY DAMAGE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING THE POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKED WHICH MADE THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE BRAKE PEDAL ALSO WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THE POWER STEERING FAILURE CAUSED THE BRAKES TO FAIL. *AK *CB *NLM
THE CONSUMER STATED THE FUEL GAUGE MALFUNCTIONED. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK. THE FUEL GAUGE WAS 3/4 FULL, HOWEVER THE TRUCK RAN OUT OF GAS 20 MILES FROM THE NEAREST GAS STATION.*TS. THE DEALER STATED THERE WERE MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL SENSOR WITH THIS PARTICULAR MAKE AND MODEL. *JB
DRIVESHAFT BROKE IN HALF COMPLETELY. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLET SILVERADO PARKING BRAKES. THEY FAIL CONSTENTLY...ITS A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN PULLING A BOAT OR PARKING ON A HILL, ESPECIALLY WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. IT IS USUALLY 200-300 DOLLARS TO REPAIR. I HAD MY TRUCK ROLL BACK WHILE TRYING TO LOAD A BOAT. I FEEL THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT CHEVROLET WILL NOT OWN UP TOO. LUCKLIY NO ONE WAS INJURED. I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE AT SEVERAL MESSAGE BOARDS AND IT SEEMS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. THANKS DANIEL. *AK

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT NORMAL SPEEDS THE REAR DRIVE TRAIN BROKE (REAR AXLE). *NLM
THE CONSUMER STATED THAT PARKING BRAKE DID NOT LOCK. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK THERE WAS PREMATURE WEAR OF THE PARKING BRAKE. (AS IDENTIFIED IN THE TSB) DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE LOW EFFORT PEDAL, THE CONSUMER DID NOT RECOGNIZE WHEN THE BRAKE HAD BECOME DEFECTIVE AND UNABLE TO HOLD. THE WEAR OCCURRED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE NOT USED. THE REDESIGNED CLIP MAY OR MAY NOT PREVENT THE PREMATURE WEAR. *SCC
WHILE DRIVING THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THEY FAILED COMPLETELY WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT ALL ROTORS WERE CHIPPED OFF AND COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. *NLM
THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWS THAT THE TRUCK IS ON EMPTY WHICH ALSO MAKES THE LOW FUEL LIGHT TO COME ON. THE TRUCK HAS EITHER A FULL TANK OF GAS OR HAS PLENTY OF GAS. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL SENSOR AND ACTED LIKE IT IS VERY COMMON. I HAVE ALSO TALKED TO OTHER OWNERS THAT HAVE THE SAME COMPLAINT.*AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE TIRES ON VEHICLE HAVE WIRES COMING OUT OF ALL FOUR TIRES. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
THE CONSUMER PLACED CLOTHES INSIDE THE TAILGATE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND THE SIDE CABLES BROKE FROM THE TAILGATE KNOCKING THE CONSUMER TO THE GROUND. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED BACK INJURIES. HE DROVE HIMSELF TO THE HOSPITAL. *AK *SC THE CONSUMER WAS SITTING ON THE TAILGATE WHEN THE CABLES BROKE. THE CONSUMER FELL TO THE GROUND AND INJURED HIS NECK, BACK AND SHOULDERS. *NLM *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING SMOKE BEGAN TO EMIT FROM THE WHEELS. *NLM
THE HYDRAULIC PUMP WAS INOPERATIVE. WHILE BACKING THE VEHICLE OUT OF DRIVEWAY, THE HYDRAULIC PUMP FAILED TO WORK. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, AND STATED THEY WOULD LOOK AT IT. BUT CONSUMER HAD NOT HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *AK THE HYDRAULIC PUMP SHAFT SEVERED WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING. THE VEHICLE HAD BECOME IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER . THE MECHANIC STATED THIS WASN'T THE FIRST INCIDENT WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL. *SCC *JB
BRAKE ROTORS HAVE A VERY SHORT LIFE SPAN. THEY RUST AND WARP AT 50,000 MILES. *AK THE ROTORS WERE PITTED. THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING OFF A RAMP WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO JUMP WHILE BRAKING. *SCC *JB
DT: THE CONSUMER WA SHAVING AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE ABS SENSOR ON A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE ABS ENGAGED FALSELY, AND WAS KICKED IN EVERY TIME CONSUMER CAME TO STOP. IT PULSATED WHEN IT DIDN'T NOT NEED TO. THIS HAPPENED FOR ABOUT A YEAR THEN CONSUMER REPLACED THE SENSORS. HOWEVER, PROBLEM RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP. THE BRAKES WERE MAKING A GRINDING SOUND. WHILE CONSUMER WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH ON 7-30-2005 BECAUSE THE BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP. THE OWNER WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. *AK

MY TRUCK JUST STOPPED RUNNING, IT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP, BUT WHAT HAPPENED??? NOW AT TIMES IT TURNS OVER ALOT BEFORE IT STARTS AND IT ROUGH IDLES! WHAT IS THE PROBLEM??? I HAVE HEARD THAT IT IS PROBABLY A FUEL REGULATOR--VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR ON ALOT OF SILVERADOS-- I THINK GM SHOULD REPLACE THESE FOR FREE BECAUSE THERE IS ALOT OF THESE WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. *NLM
THE THROTTLE STUCK ON MY 2000 CHEVROLET C1500 SILVERADO AND CAUSED A UNWANTED ACCELERATION EVENT THAT RESULTED IN A COLLISION WITH A POLE IN A PARKING LOT. THE DEFECT EXISTED WITHIN THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY. TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 02-06-04-054A. I TOLD THE DEALER BACK IN 2001OF THE PROBLEM, AND HE CLEANED THE THROTTLE, AND TOLD ME IT WOULD BE OKAY, AND TO BURN BETTER GAS ,BUT I CONTINUED TO HAVE PROBLEMS LATER, AND WAS WORSE THAN BEFORE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME TO COME IN AND HAVE IT LOOKED AT , ONLY FOR THEM TO TELL ME AFTER I GOT THERE THAT THEY DIDN`T HAVE TIME TO WORK ON IT THAT DAY,AND TOLD ME TO JUST KEEP DRIVING IT AND BE CAREFULL. IT WAS THAT WEEKEND THAT THE COLLISION OCCURRED. *AKI
WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED. IT WAS DISCOVERED THE ROTORS WERE WORN. *JB
ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS STARTING APPROX. 1 1/2 TO 2 YEARS AGO, THE BRAKES ON MY 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 ACT UP WHEN PULLING UP TO A STOP SIGN, OR OTHERWISE BRAKING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS TO A STOP. AFTER READING THIS MORNING ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED INTO THE BRAKES, I REALIZED THAT THIS IS WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY ACCIDENTS, BUT IN THAT MOMENT I PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL AS HARD AS I CAN, AND THE TRUCK JUST DOESN'T STOP. THE ANTI-LOCKS KICK IN, BUT IT IS A VERY SCARY FEELING AS IT ADDS STOPPING DISTANCE. I ASKED THE DEALER ABOUT IT, AND GOT A KIND OF NON-ANSWER, SO I STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM OCCASIONALLY. SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY NOT RIGHT; IT'S UNLIKE ANYTHING I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED TO DATE.
DT: THE CONTACT STATES THE FUEL INJECTION PUMP STOPS WORKING WITHOUT WARNING. THIS CAUSES THE BRAKES AND STEERING NOT TO WORK. THE PUMP HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE AND HE FEELS THIS HAPPENS EVERY 18,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED HIM $800 TOWARD A NEWER VEHICLE. *NM
TIRE/TREAD SEPARATION ON A FIRESTONE LT245/75R16. RIGHT REAR WHEEL (THE TIRE DID NOT LOOSE AIR PRESSURE). THIS TIRE WAS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON A 2000 CHEVROLET PASSENGER VAN - LESS THAN 25000 MILES. *NLM
SINCE PURCHASING THE 2000 SILVERADO Z71 LS K1500 TRUCK I HAD THE PARKING BRAKE SERVICED TWO SEPARATE TIMES. THE FIRST TIME AT 29,987 MILES, THE PARKING BRAKE DID NOT WORK. IT REQUIRED "ADJUSTMENT" AND I WAS CHARGED $112.50. I WAS SURPRISED THE PARKING BRAKE REQUIRED ADJUSTMENT SINCE IT IS NOT USED TO STOP THE VEHICLE, BUT RATHER USED TO KEEP IN PLACE WHEN PARKED AND IT WAS RARELY USED SINCE WE LIVE ON FLAT TERRAIN. I WAS FURTHER SURPRISED TO SEE THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT I LET THIS GO SINCE I WAS TOLD IT WAS A WEARABLE PART. I DID NOT SEE THE ACTUAL PARKING BRAKE PADS BUT WAS CONCERNED THAT I WAS NOT ABLE TO ADJUST THEM AND HEY REQUIRED ADJUSTMENT AFTER SUCH SHORT OF MILEAGE. AGAIN AT 66,023 MILES, THE PARKING BRAKE CEASED WORKING FOR THE SECOND TIME. THIS IS JUST 36,036 MILES AFTER THEY WERE ADJUSTED. AFTER LOOKING AT THE ORIGINAL PARKING BRAKE PADS, THE FRONT TOP OF THE PAD WAS WORN ALMOST COMPLETELY AWAY WHILE THE BACK PAD WAS WORN VERY LITTLE. THIS COST ME AN ADDITIONAL $228.84 TO HAVE THE PADS REPLACED AS THEY COULD NO LONGER BE ADJUSTED. I DID NOTICE THE NEW PADS WERE OF A DIFFERENT DESIGN WITH A LARGER CLIP THAT HOLDS THEM IN PLACE, APPLYING MORE PRESSURE OVER A LARGER AREA. ACCORDING TO THE TECHNICIAN, THIS NEW BRACKET HELPS HOLD THE PAD IN PLACE SO THAT WEAR, WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, DOES NOT OCCUR. THIS WOULD SUGGEST THE ORIGINAL PAD AND RETAINING CLASP WAS POORLY DESIGNED CAUSING ABNORMAL WEAR ON THE PARKING BRAKES. EVERY CHANCE I GET, I SPEAK WITH PEOPLE THAT ARE DRIVING 2000 SERIES TRUCKS AND ALMOST ALL THAT I HAVE SPOKEN WITH, THEIR PARKING BRAKES ARE NON-FUNCTIONAL. OF THOSE THAT WERE WORKING, THEY HAD THEM REPLACED. I KEEP METICULOUS RECORDS FOR THE SERVICE ON MY VEHICLE AND IT IS NOT DRIVEN HARD OR ABUSED IN ANY MANNER.
