ONGOING PROBLEM FOR ROUGH IDLE, FROM THE TIME THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW. SEVERAL DEALERS TOLD ME IT WAS NORMAL, ANOTHER SAID IT WAS PROBLEM WITH THE 5.3 LITER; HOWEVER, NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. FUEL INJECTORS HAVE BEEN CLEANED SEVERAL TIMES. NOW VEHICLE OUT OF WARRANTY. AFTER VEHICLE IS UP TO OPERATING TEMPERATURE AND IS SHUT OFF AND REMAINS FOR APPROXIMATELY HALF HOUR, UPON RESTARTING, VEHICLE "TUMBLES." I CONTACTED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO PROVIDED ME WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE ENGINE AND THEY HAVE "WASHED THERE HANDS" OF ANY OTHER PROBLEMS THEY MAY OCCUR. MY COMPLAINT IS THE ROUGH IDLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN PRESENT, AND NOW THE "TUMBLING" IS BEING CAUSED AS A RESULT OF THE PRIOR PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN SERVICE NUMEROUS TIMES AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY CHEVROLET. DO ANY SERVICE BULLETINS EXIST FOR A SIMILAR PROBLEM AS THIS? FILE #1-89542103 & 1-89542103. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS ANOTHER ISSUE THAT WAS ADDRESSED WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. NOW, TCC VALVE IS STICKING CAUSING A DELAYED GEAR ENGAGEMENT. AGAIN, SORRY BUT YOUR VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. *LA
DEALER SOLD A VEHICLE WITHOUT AIR BAG BEING INSTALLED. CONSUMER NOTIFIED MANUFACTURER. MANUFACTURER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THERE WAS NO FEDERAL REGULATION SAYING AIR BAG MUST BE INSTALLED IN VEHICLE. SEEKING NHTSA HELP IN THIS MATTER. *AK
WHEN TURNING STEERING WHELL LEFT OR RIGHT IT MAKES A SQUEAKING NOISE. CONSUMER FEELS THAT STEERING MAY LOCK UP. *AK
WHILE DRIVING SWERVED TO AVOID ANOTHER AUTOMOBILE AND HIT A CONCRETE PILLOW HEAD-ON. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CONSUMER WAS INJURED. *AK
DEALER REPORTS THAT THE NOISE IS FROM CARBON BUILD UP.
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION WITH A TREE AT 20 MPH, AND BOTH AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DEALER/MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
POWER STEERING SQUEALS WHEN YOU TURN TO THE LEFT. THIS HAPPENS TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT FROM CENTER, NOT WHEN YOU HIT THE LOCK ALL THE WAY TO LEFT. AND, IT ONLY HAPPENS AFTER THE TRUCK HAS WARMED UP. I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS THE FIFTH ONE THAY HAD SEEN WITH THIS PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE SQUEALING AND I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT AT LEAST TWO MONTHS BEFORE GM WOULD HAVE A SOLUTION. I FIND THIS UNACCEPTABLE. PLEASE CONTACT GM AND PUSH FOR A SOLUTION SOONER THAN THAT. THANK YOU. *AK
WHEN PRESSING BRAKES BRAKE PEDAL VIOLENTLY KICKED BACK TOWARDS THE DRIVER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
TIRE BLEW OUT WHILE TRAVELING 55 MPH. THE DAMAGE TO THE TIRE WAS RIGHT WHERE THE TREAD AND SIDEWALL MEET. WHEN I TOOK THE TIRE TO A FIRESTONE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT IT APPEARED TO BE A "ZIPPER PROBLEM". AFTER THE FIRESTONE WARRANTY DEPT. WAS CALLED I WAS THEN TOLD THAT THEY COULDN'T TELL WHY THE TIRE HAD FAILED BECAUSE I HAD OBVIOUSLY DRIVEN ON IT WHILE IT WAS FLAT. I INFORMED THEM THAT IT IS HARD TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP FROM 55 MPH., AND THAT I HAD TO DRIVE APRX. A TENTH OF A MILE TO WHERE I COULD SAFELY PULL OFF OF THE ROAD. I WAS OFFERED A REPLACEMENT TIRE AT EITHER AT 1/2 OFF OR AT DEALER'S COST I DON'T REMEMBER. THE REPLACEMENT ALSO HAS THE "VD" DESIGNATION.( DOT NUMBER: VD11B1C TIRE SIZE: LT24575R16 )
TIRE CAUSED VEHICLE TO VIBRATE REAL BAD AT HIGH SPEEDS 55-75 MPH, DEALER CHECKED AND SAID THE TIRE WAS SEPERATED OR OUT OF ROUND, TIRE REPLACED BY DEALER, I DO NOT FEEL REAL SAFE DRIVING ON THESE TIRES SINCE THE SIMILAR TIRES WERE RECALLED IN A DIFFERENT SIZE. TRUCK PULLED TO RIGHT STARTING AROUND 2,000 MILES. FRONT END WAS REALIGNED AND TIRES ROTATED AND REBALANCED AT 5,211 MILES. TRUCK THEN PULLED TO LEFT REQUIRING CONSTANT PRESSURE TO RIGHT ON STEERING WHEEL. ROATED TIRES AT 9,807. TRUCK THEN PULLED TO RIGHT. RETURNED TO DEALER. DEALER REALIGNED AGAIN AND ROTATED TIRES BACK. I WAS TOLD IT MAYBE A TIRE PROBLEM. I ASKED FOR TIRES TO BE REPLACED UNDER BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY. DEALER WILL NOT CHANGE OUT TIRES. REPORTED TO CHEVROLET ON OCT. 25, 2000. FILE #C02016717 IS OPEN. CALLED CHEVROLET AGAIN ON 11/22/00. REQUESTED TIRES BE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. REFUSED REPLACEMENT BY DEALER AND CHEVROLET CORPORATION. WHEN VEHICLE DRIVEN 62-65 MPH OR AT HWY SPEEDS, STEERING WHEEL WILL SHAKE AND VIBRATE. CONDITION WORSENS WHEN VEHICLE IS DRIVEN OVER BUMPS OR ROUGH CONDITIONS.VIBRATION WILL CONTINUE, ONCE STARTED, UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED. STARTNG OVER SOMETIMES WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER REP DECRIBED THE PROBLEM AS "STEERING DITHERS" AND SAID THEY COULD NOT FIX. GAVE ME THE CHEVORLET CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER. CURRENTLY I AM TOLD THE 'AVM' FORM CHEVEROLET (DAN SATELLO) WILL CONTACT ME IN TWO WEEKS. NO OFFER MADE TO ASSIST ME IN THE MEAN TIME, IN ANY FORM. I DID ASK FOR A RENT CAR AND WAS REFUSED, ALSO ASKED IF IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND RECIEVED NO ANSWER. THE DEALER NOTE ON MY REPAIR RECEIPT WAS "NO PROBLEM AT THIS TIME" AND "COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM". *AK
CONSUMER HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALER FOUR TIMES FOR NOISE COMING FROM FRONT SUSPENSION. ACCORDING TO DEALER NOISE WAS CAUSED BY A LACK OF LUBRICATION ON DRIVELINE. *AK
TOWING EQUIPMENT IS DEFECTIVE. ADVERTISED THAT VEHICLE CAN TOW 8500 LBS, BUT OWNER'S MANUAL SAYS MAX TOWING IS 7500 LBS. *AK *ML
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKES FAILED. THE DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL, NUMEROUS TIMES AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP COMPLETELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AT THIS TIME. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *NM
TRUCK HAS A VIBRATION BETWEEN 60-65 MPH THAT ALSO SHAKES THE STEERING WHEEL. ALSO NOTICED THE LEFT MIRROR IS SHAKING,LEADING TO BELIEVE IT MAY BE A PROBLEM ON LEFT SIDE OF VEHICLE. CONTACTED GM TOLD ME THEY DID HAVE A VIBRATION PROBLEM IN THE SILVERADO BUT NO FIX YET. *AK
VEHICLE DOESN'T HOLD WHEN BACKING DOWN HILLS IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE. IT HAS NO HOLD FROM THE TRANSMISSION. *AK THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE DENIES THAT HE WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM EVENTHOUGH HE REMEMBER TEST DRIVING IT. *YH
VEHICLE EXPERIENCING ROUGH IDLE. NLM
REAR END OF VEHICLE SHAKES VIOLENTLY. VEHICLE HAS BEEN INSPECTED,UNABLE TO LOCATED PROBLEM. *AK
ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON REPEATEDLY, TOOK TO DEALER BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. SOON AFTER THE VEHICLE STALLED, AND WAS BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALER. THE FUEL SENDING UNIT AND THE IGNITION COIL WIRE WERE REPLACED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE.
THE VEHICLE HAS EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE BRAKE FAILURES, SEVERAL REPAIRS COMPLETED HOWEVER THE BRAKES FAILED RESULTING IN THE DRIVER HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT, THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS NOT DESIGNED SUFFICIENTLY FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. *MJS
REAR BRAKES WERE EXCESSIVELY WEARING OUT EVERY 3-4,000 MILES. BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GO TO FLOOR. WOULD HAVE NO REAR BRAKES WHEN THEY WERE APPLIED. HAD AN ACCIDENT DUE TO LACK OF REAR BRAKES, ON ONE OCCASION DEALER STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE METAL TO METAL, THE BRAKE PADS WERE SCORCHED, MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED, AND THE BRAKE PROPORTIONING VALVE WAS REPLACED. CONTACTED MANUFACTURER & INFORMED CONSUMER THAT VIN INDICATED A TOW TRUCK, BUT VEHICLE WAS NOT HEAVY ENOUGH TO BE TOW TRUCK. MANUFACTURER COULD NOT GIVE EXPLAINATION FOR LABELING OF TOW TRUCK. IT COULD NOT BE USED AS A TOW TRUCK.BRAKES WOULD CONTINUE TO WEAR OUT DUE TO NOT BEING HEAVY ENOUGH, ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURER'S EXPLANATION. *AK CONSUMER IS REQUESTING A FIX TO THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM OR A PRO-RATED REPLACEMENT OF THE VEHICLE. *SLC
THE VEHICLE WAS WEIGHED WITH A MEDIUM SIZED VEHICLE IN TOW AND THE WEIGHT WAS 12140, AS PER GM THE TRUCKS MAX GVW RATING IS 11,000, THE VEHICLE WAS BEING USED OVERWEIGHT OF SPECS WHICH CAUSED PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR, THE VEHICLE WAS SOLD TO THE CONSUMER WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE USED AS A TOW TRUCK, THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT GM IS SELLING TRUCKS WITH WRECKER PROVISIONS BUT ARE TOO LIGHT TO BE TOW TRUCKS OR THEY ARE SELLING TRUCKS WITH DEFECTIVE BRAKE SYSTEMS, ON ONE OCCASION THE VEHICLE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHILE THE DRIVER WAS BRAKING AND FAILED CAUSING THE TRUCK TO REAR END ANOTHER VEHICLE. POWER SLIDING DOOR OPENS AND CLOSES WHILE PARKED AND AT SPEEDS OF 5MPH. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALERSHIP WERE NOTIFIED TO FIX THE PROBLEM ON 5 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS NONE OF WHICH FIXED THE PROBLEM. A LEATHER TRIM ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WAS COMING UNDONE AND THE DEALERSHIP FOOLISHLY TRIED TO FIX IT WITH SILICON. I SHOULD OF STUCK WITH JAPANESE CARS.
ENGINE LIGHT ON DUE TO INTERNAL FAILURE WITH EVAP SOLENOID, REPLACED EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CANISTER PURGE VALVE, IGNITION COIL WIRE OPEN. NLM
WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED IT BECOMES HARD OR THE PEDAL WOULD FALL TO THE FLOOR THEN CONSUMER WOULD HERE A CRUNCHING NOISE. WHILE SLOWING FOR A STOP SIGN ,THE BRAKE FAILED CAUSING CONSUMER TO HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT, RESULTING INJURIES TO OCCUPANTS.*ET
HAD PARKED VEHICLE & WENT AROUND TO REAR OF TRUCK. DRIVER SMELLED SMOKE & NOTICED THAT IT COMING FROM UNDERHOOD. LIFTED HOOD & THE ELECTRICAL WIRE HARNESS WAS ON FIRE. CONSUMER EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. TOOK TRUCK TO DEALERSHIP. MECHANIC COULD NOT LOCATE ORIGIN OF FIRE OR CAUSE. *AK
BOTH FRONT DOOR EXPERIENCING PROBLEM WITH AIR LEAKING IN BETWEEN AND CAUSING A WHISTLING NOISE. VEHICLE BEEN IN DEALER SHOP ON FOUR OCCASIONS AND PROBLEM STILL GOES UNRESOLVED. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
HORN IS EXTREMELY HARD TO PUSH. TOOK TO DEALER, AND THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL. CONSUMER TOOK A SCALE TO MEASURE HOW MUCH PRESSURE IT TOOK TO BLOW THIS HORN, AND ANSWER WAS 22 POUNDS.*AK *SLC
1. THE FIRST INCIDENT WITH THE TRANSMISSION GOING OUT WAS A FACTORY DEFECT. IT HAD PROBLEMS GOING INTO REVERSE AND IT WOULD GET STUCK BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR IT WAS REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE. 2. THE SECOND INCIDENT WAS A O-RING BUSTED LOOSE FROM THE RADIATOR THAT CONNECTED THE TRANSMISSION LINE TO THE RADIATOR AND SPURTED TRANSMISSION FLUID ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND SPARK PLUG WIRES WITH CAUSED THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT TO CATCH ON FIRE. THE REPLACED WHAT THEY FELT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, HE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK) HOWEVER THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 127,000..... UPDATED 02-20-13 *BF UPDATED 02/25/2013 *JS
INTERMITTENTLY WINDSHIELD WIPERS BECOME INOPERABLE, OBSTRUCTING THE VIEW OF THE DRIVER. DEALER HAS REPAIRED THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TWICE, AND PROBLEM HAS REOCCURRED. *AK
HAPPENED TO BE TURNING AROUND IN A PARKING LOT, PULLED OUT INTO THE HIGHWAY WITH BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC, FELT POWER STEERING JUMP. THEN, THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKES, EVEN AT A LOW SPEED 5MPH. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP VEHICLE WAS WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKES. *AK *ML
THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM ON THE CHEVROLET SILVERADO IS TOO SENSITIVE. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENTS WHERE THE SYSTEM ACTIVATED WHEN IT SHOULD NOT HAVE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO EXPERIENCE INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES.I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM.I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH YOUR OFFICE SEVERAL YEARS AGO,BUT HAVE YET TO SEE ANY ACTION TAKEN TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM
VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP DURING EMERGENCY SITUATIONS. MANY TIMES I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AND THE TRUCK WILL STOP AT FIRST A SECOND AND THEN THE BRAKES WOULD LET GO AND THE TRUCK WOULD STILL GO. I HAVE TO PUT THE BRAKES TO THE FLOOR AND THEN THE TRUCK WOULD SLOW DOWN. I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO 3 DIFFERENT DEALERS IN SAN DIEGO AND NONE OF THEM KNEW THE PROBLEM. ONE DEALER TOLD ME TO GENTLY APPLY THE BRAKES FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP PROPERLY, BUT I'M SORRY, I CAN'T DO THAT DURING A PANIC SITUATION. THE HAS FAILED AT LEAST 5 TIMES AND ONE TIME WHEN MY PREGNANT SISTER WAS DRIVING, THE TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP THROUGH A PARKING LOT, SO SHE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. DON'T KNOW WHAT DO NOW. TRUCK IS ALREADY OVER EXTENDED WARRANTY. WE PLAN ON SELLING THE TRUCK SOON AND BUYING ANOTHER BECAUSE THIS ONE IS NOT SAFE. *AK

DASHBOARD SUPPORT RAIL EXTENDS FROM THE DASHBOARD TO THE FLOORBOARD, PLASTIC COVERING BECOMES CAUGHT ON THE DRIVERS RIGHT FOOT, CAUSING VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE. PLASTIC COVERING HAS BEEN REMOVED, DEALER CONTACTED. *AK *ML

AROUND 1:30 A.M. TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE IN DRIVEWAY WHILE NO ONE WAS DRIVING VEHICLE. FIRE WAS SO INTENSE, IT MELTED THE BACK WINDOW. DEALER SAID IT WAS SOMEWHERE IN THE DASHBOARD. *AK
TRUCK VIBRATES VERY BADLY. CONSUMER HAS TO FIGHT TO CONTROL IT. *AK
POWER STEERING SHAFT SNAPPED, CAUSING LOSS OF POWER STEERING. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND DEALER PUT ANOTHER PUMP IN. WHILE ON VACATION AROUND MAY 5TH, SHAFT BROKE AGAIN, AND ON JUNE 2ND, POWER STEERING WENT OUT. CURRENTLY, VEHICLE IS AT DEALER'S REPAIR SHOP. *AK THE VEHICLE MAKES NOISE WHEN TURNING LEFT. *YH
BRAKING SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE WHICH MAY RESULT IN A CRASH. ALSO, REAR PASSENGER'S SEATBELT LOCKED UP WHILE IN USE, CAUSING THE PASSENGER TO FEEL "LOCKED IN". DEALER CANNOT FIND CAUSE OF PROBLEM. *AK *ML
ABS FAILING TO OPERATE PROPERLY AND CAUSING BRAKE PEDAL TO GO TO THE FLOOR INTERMITTENTLY WHEN DRIVING OVER BUMP OR ROUGH SURFACE. DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED AT THIS TIME. *AK ABS IS TOO SENSITIVE WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, ANY TYPE OF PUMP OR WET PAVEMENT WILL SET OFF THE ABS.
