NEGOTIATING HIGHWAY TURN, VEHICLE FAILED TO MAKE TURN, WENT OVER CULVERT AND INTO DITCH. INSURED HAS FIRESTONE WILDERNESS TIRES. SHOP INDICATES SEVERE MISALIGNMENT. INSRD CALLED, SHE ROUNDED CORNER AND WENT INTO DITCH. SHE AS THE FIRESTONE WILDERNESS TIRES. TIRES DID NOT BLOW BUT STEEL BELTS ARE SHOWING THRU THE TIRES AND SHE ONLY HAS 13K MILES ON THE VEH. SHE IS GOING TO HAVE THEM REPLACED AND SHE WILL SAVE THE TIRES. FIRESTONE SAYS THEY ARE NOT THE RIGHT SIZE FOR THE RECALL. SHOP TOLD HER THAT THERE HAS BEEN OTHER PEOPLE IN WITH OUTHER SIZES AND THEY HAVE HAD SAME PROBLEMS AS RECALLS. ADVISED I WASNT SURE IF THIS WOULD HAVE ANTHING TO DO WITH LOSS BUT WE COULD CHECK INTO IT. NO INJURIES. INSRD IS GOING TO HAVE FRONT IRES REPLACED AND ALIGNMENT DONE BEFORE SHE TAKES INTO SHOP FOR BODY DAMAGEST. I EXPLAINED ALIGNMENT USUALLY GETS DONE AFTER REPAIRS. I STARTED HEARING A SQEAKING NOISE COMING FROM THE LEFT FRONT OF TRUCK WHEN I TURNED, THERE WAS ALSO A SQEAKING NOISE FROM MY CLUTCH, MY REVERSE LIGHTS STAYED ON AND MY BRAKE LIGHTS WORKED ONLY HALF THE TIME AND MY BRAKE FLUID LEAKED. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK IN THE GET IT FIX BY CHAMPION CHEVROLET ON MON JULY 31 @ 8:30 ON THRUSDAY I PICKED IT UP THEY HAD ONLY PUT 2 MILES ON THE TRUCK I NOTICED THE SOUND WAS WORSE IN THE STEERING ONLY AFTER DRIVING 9 MILES. I FEAR FOR MY HEALTH AND SAFETY DRIVING THIS TRRUCK AS NOW IT SWAYS BACK AND FORTH AND THE SOUND IS WORSE THEN IT WAS WHEN I DROPED THE TRUCK OFF ON MONDAY. WHAT CAN I DO ? I HAVE NOT PAID A PAYMENT YET BUT IS DUE IN 3 DAYS. PLEASE HELP.

REAR FRAME BROKEN FROM APPROXIMATELY 2 INCHES IN FRONT OF THE TOW HOOK ATTACHMENT FROM THE BOTTOM UP. DEALER NOTIFIED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
TIRES ARE WEARING PREMATURELY IN CENTER. DEALER SAYS TRUCK IS NOT OUT OF ALIGNMENT, IT IS THE TIRES. FIRESTONE SAYS THEY ARE NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THEY LOOK LIKE THEY HAVE BEEN SPUN, BUT THIS IS NOT THE CASE. THEY WILL NOT LAST 20,000 MILES. THEY LOOK LIKE THE RIMS MAY BE TOO NARROW TO ME.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P26575R16 )
ON JULY 6, 2000 ON A 5 MILE TRIP TO TOWN, I PICKED UP A SMALL SCREW IN THE LEFT REAR TIRE, ABOUT HALF WAY ACROSS THE TREAD BAND. I HEARD THE AIR LEAK AS I LEFT THE VEHICLE, AND I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT 2 BLOCKS TO A TIRE STORE TO BE REPAIRED BEFORE IT WENT FLAT. THE TIRE SHOP SAID IT COULDN'T BE REPAIRED, AS A SIDEWALL BULGE HAD FORMED FROM AN INTERNAL DELAMINATION IN THE TREAD AREA LEAKING INTO THE SIDE WALL AREA, AND THAT IT WAS UNSAFE TO USE. I RELACED THAT TIRE AT THAT TIME. ON SEPTEMBER 5, THE LEFT FRONT TIRE WAS FOUND FLAT IN MY GARAGE. FOR THE LAST MONTH OR SO, I HAVE NOTICED A CYCLIC "GROWLING" NOISE, TIED TO THE WHEEL ROTATIONAL SPEED OF THE VEHICLE, THAT WAS SIMILAR TO THE SOUND A FAILING WHEEL BEARING MAKES, BUT AN INSPECTION OF THE BEARINGS FOUND THEM IN GOOD CONDITION. AFTER REPLACING THIS SECOND TIRE, THE NOISE WENT AWAY. THE TIRE STORE ADVISED ME THAT A PARTIAL INTERNAL TREAD SEPERATION CAN MAKE THE KIND OF CYCLIC NOISE I WAS HEARING. I HAVE PUT 25,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK IN 6 MONTHS, WITH SEVERAL HIGH SPEED TRIPS ACROSS NEVADA AND UTAH, AND TWO TRIPS TO MEXICO VIA THE MOJAVE DESERT, PLUS NUMEROUS FREEWAY TRIPS THROUGH THE CALIFORNIA CENTRAL VALLEY THIS SUMMER. ALTHOUGH NEITHER TIRE FAILED AT SPEED OR SUFFERED A TREAD LOSS, THE FACT THAT 2 OF THEM HAVE HAD INTERNAL LAMINATION PROBLEMS CONCERNS ME GREATLY. I AM NO LONGER CONFIDENT OF THEIR SAFETY. PLEASE ADVISE ME IF OTHER CONSUMERS HAVE REPORTED PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL AND SIZE, AND IF NHTSA IS CONSIDERING EXPANING THE RECALL TO THIS MODEL, AS OTHER PARTIES HAVE ALREADY REQUESTED.( DOT NUMBER: W273 WMA TIRE SIZE: P265-75R16 )
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER NOTICED FLAMES ON BACK WINDOW AND THE BED OF THE TRUCK. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO GET THE KIDS OUT AND LEFT VEHICLE, AND THE WHOLE TRUCK BLEW UP. CONSUMER FELT IF THEY HAD OF BEEN 10 SECONDS LONGER THEY WOULD NOT BE HERE TODAY. *AK

TIRE WAS KEPT BY SIMPSONVILLE CHEVY DUE TO THEIR REIMBURSEMENT CLAIM, AGAINST MY REQUEST. SPOKE TO FIRESTONE DEALER TODAY WHO TOLD ME TIRES HAVE NO PROBLEMS, AND IF I WANT TIRES REPLACED I PAY, THEY ARE NOT RESONSIBLE. HAVE ALSO REC'D RUN AROUND FROM CHEVROLET, BROOK LINDHART OFFERED REASSURANCE BUT NOW I'M NOT SURE, WILLING TO HELP YOU IN ANYWAY POSSIBLE INCLUDING PROVIDING ACCOUNTS BY PHONE TAPE OR TESTIMONY. I AM TIRED OF BEING JERKED AROUND FOR SOMETHING THAT INVOLVES MY THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. NO ONE TO DATE WILL GIVE ME ANY STRAIGHT ANSWERS. VEHICLE WAS IN 4- WHEEL LOW AND CONSUMER WAS IN BACK OF IT, VEHICLE MOVED ON ITS OWN, WENT DOWN HILL, AND HIT A TREE. DEALER FOUND VEHICLE HAD JUMPED FROM 4- WHEEL LOW INTO NEUTRAL DUE TO THE LINKAGE NOT ADJUSTED RIGHTLY. DAMAGE TO BVEHICLE WAS $ 6000. *AK CONSUMER WAS INJURED IN ACCIDENT. *SLC

BRAKE PROBLEMS
VEHICLE SHOWS PAUSING OR HESITATING CONDITIONS IN BOTH IN TOWN AND HIGHWAY DRIVING, WHETHER IN MANUAL OR CRUISE CONTROL, WITH OR WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING.
THIS VEHICLE PAUSES OR HESITATES AT ALL SPEEDS WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE, CAUSING A MILD JERKING MOTION.*AK
CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON, AND VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70MPH. IT WAS RAINING OUTSIDE, AND CONSUMER TAPPED BRAKES TO TAKE THE CRUISE CONTROL OFF, BUT CRUISE CONTROL DIDN'T RELEASE. VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. ALSO, CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO TURN CRUISE CONTROL OFF MAUALLY, BUT IT STILL DIDN'T RELEASE. HAD TO TURN THE MOTOR OFF.*AK
SEVERE VIBRATION FROM REAR, CAUSING REAR TO BOUNCE ACROSS THE ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH OR MORE. VEHICLE BEEN IN DEALER'S SHOP ON SIX OCCASIONS AND PROBLEM STILL REOCCURRING. *AK THE MANUFACTURER REPLACED THE ENTIRE FRONT SUSPENSION. *YH
PASSENGER'S SIDE WINDOW WAS DOWN A THIRD. DOG STUCK HEAD OUTSIDE OF THE WINDOW, WINDOW WENT UP, AND DOG'S NECK ALMOST GOT CAUGHT INSIDE OF THE WINDOW. COMPLAINT FROM THE CONSUMER SAID THAT THE TAHOE HAD A LOCK OUT BOTTOM TOO CLOSE THAT LOCKED THE WINDOWS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ON A "SLICK" ROAD DUE TO AN EARLIER RAIN VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO GO THROUGH A GREEN LIGHT, AND SPUN AROUND AT LEAST TWICE. THEN, IT STOPPED AND WENT STRAIGHT THROUGH THE LIGHT. DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
ENGINE HAS A DEEP KNOCKING NOISE IN THE LOWER PART AND A TAPPING NOISE IN THE UPPER PART AFTER SETTING SEVERAL HOURS OR OVERNIGHT. ALSO THE SAME THING HAPPENS WHEN HOT UPON START-UP. DEALER STATED THE ENGINE KNOCKING IN THEIR OPPINION DID NOT LAST OVER A MINUTE AND HALF, THEREFORE THE GM TECH ASST ADVISED NO REPAIRS ARE REQUIRED, THIS IS A NORMAL CONDITION. ALTHOUGH THE DEALER STATED GM IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. HOW CAN THIS BE NORMAL AND A PROBLEM? GM HAS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS 4.8 AND 5.3 ENGINES.*AK
THE SEATBELT LOCKED, WOULD NOT RETRACT OR EXTEND. PINNED DRIVER TO FRONT SEAT, COULD NOT LOOK OVER SHOULDER WHILE MERGING IN TRAFFIC.
DESPITE REPEATED ALIGNMENTS AND BALANCINGS, THE TIRES VIBRATE, THE VEHICLE PULLS, AND WET AND SNOW PERFORMANCE IS POOR COMPARED TO OTHER OE TIRES GM HAS USED IN THE PAST, I.E. GOODYEAR. I HAVE DISCUSSED THIS PROBLEM WITH NATIONAL TIRE AND BATTERY, AND THEY ARE OF THE OPINION THAT ALL WILDERNESS AT TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. I HAVE FOUND MANY OTHER OWNERS OF CHEVYS TRUCKS WILL SIMILAR EXPERIENCES, AND THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET THAT HAVE DOCUMENTED BLOWOUTS. 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO. THE PARKING BRAKE HAS HAD PREMATURE WEAR ON LEFT SIDE CAUSING METAL TO METAL CONTACT WITH THE SHOE AND THE ROTOR. HAPPENED AT 40,000 AND 85,000 MILES. REPLACED ROTOR AND BRAKES BOTH TIMES. RECALL #05V161000 ADDRESSES THIS PROBLEM IN TRUCKS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS ONLY. WORN EMERGENCY BRAKE REDUCES BRAKE HOLDING POWER AND CAUSES EXPENSIVE PREMATURE EXPENSE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY POWER STEERING PUMP SHAFT BROKE. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK TO DEALERSHIP. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK OR OTHER PEOPLE BEING HURT. POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED. *AK *ML

WHEN APPLYING ABS BRAKES PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR, CAUSING EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER CANNOT IDENTIFY THE CAUSE. *AK

POWER STEERING--STEERING RACK ASSEMBLY IS SOMEHOW LOSING POWER STEERING FLUID--NO VISIBLE LEAKS...YET POWER STEERING RESERVOIR IS DRY, NEEDING ALMOST A PINT OF FLUID TO FILL TO PROPER LEVELS..ON 5/26/2000 DEALERSHIP REPLACED STEERING RACK (COMPLETE ASSEMBLY)..(TRUCK WAS PURCHASED NEW FROM THE SAME DEALERSHIP ON 03/17/2000)...AS DEFECTIVE AND UNDER WARRANTY WITH ONLY 3762 MILES ON ODOMETER...ON 06/06/2000, TRUCK WAS AGAIN IN SHOP TO BE CHECKED (AFTER A ROAD TRIP OF 3700 MILES IN 7 DAYS) FOR POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKAGE AS IT NEEDED OVER 1/2 PINT TO FILL POWER STEERING FLUID RESERVOIR...ODOMETER MILEAGE THIS DATE 7798...DETERMINATION OF PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED AS OF CLOSE OF BUSINESS THIS DATE (06/06/2000). HOWEVER, THE SERVICE MANAGER AT (RANDY OWENS) AT ALL STAR CHEVROLET IN BATON ROUGE, LA STATED THAT THE STEERING RACK (COMPLETE ASSEMBLY) HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE ON HIS PERSONAL NEW CHEVROLET TRUCK, AND THAT SUPPOSEDLY CHEVROLET IS "AWARE" OF THIS PROBLEM AND IS REDESIGNING THE STEERING COMPONENTS TO CORRECT. MR. OWENS ALSO STATED THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM THAT THEY HAVE BEEN SEEING FOR SOME TIME NOW...SEVERAL MONTHS...BUT THAT THE ONLY RECOURSE IS TO R & R THE STEERING RACK.*AK
WHILE DRIVING THE WELD THAT HOLDS THE SWAY BAR TO THE FRAME BROKE, CAUSING DIFFICULTY IN STEERING. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK *ML
TRUCK HAS A "VIBRATION" THAT THE DEALER CAN NOT CORRECT. FEELS LIKE A TIRE OUT OF BALANCE. TIRES BALANCED AND "VIBRATION" IS NOT AS BAD, EACH TIME TIRES ARE BALANCED THEY ARE FOUND TO BE OUT OF BALANCE. SERVICE MANAGER HAS TOLD ME THAT "I WOULD HAVE TO LIVE WITH THIS". MANUFACTURE SAYS "ALL TRUCKS HAVE THIS VIBRATION". THE REAR LEFT DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE IN FREEZING WEATHER TILL THE TRUCK HAS BEEN RAN LONG ENOUGH TO WARM THE INTERIOR, (ABOUT 5 MILES),SINCE THE FRONT DOOR LATCHES TO THE REAR DOOR IT WILL NOT CLOSE COMPLETELY. SERVICE MANAGER AT DEALER STATES HE HAS NOT HEARD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.*AK
