TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, HE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT WAS ONLY ABLE TO ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO COAST UNTIL IT CAME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I OWN A 2000 CHEVY 1500 TRUCK. ON JUNE 24, 2011, I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY, ON MY WAY TO WORK AND THE PEDDLE FOR THE BREAKS WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. NO BRAKES. LUCKILY I AM A POLICE OFFICER AND WAS TRAINED ON WHAT TO DO IN THIS SITUATION AND I FOUND IT PRIOR TO NEEDING THEM FOR AN ABRUPT STOP. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION, I FOUND THE BRAKE LINE TO THE REAR AXEL HAD RUSTED THROUGH UNDER THE CAB. I REMOVED THE BED OF THE TRUCK AND REPLACED THE LINE. I THEN EXAMINED THE OTHER BRAKE LINES AND FOUND ALL THE BRAKE LINES TO BE COMPLETELY RUSTED. THIS RUSTING IS PREMATURE FOR A 2000 YEAR VEHICLE. MY 2001 VOLKSWAGEN'S BRAKE LINES STILL LOOK LIKE NEW AND IT HAS FIFTY THOUSAND MORE MILES. THIS PREMATURE RUSTING IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. IF I NEEDED THE BRAKES FOR AN EMERGENCY STOP, OR DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO IN THE EVENT OF NO BRAKES, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUS PERSONAL OR PROPERTY DAMAGE. GM KNOWS THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE COMPONENTS ON THE TRUCKS THEY MADE. THEY JUST HAVE NOT HAD ANYONE MAKE THEM DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. YES I HAVE THE OLD LINES. *TT
MY TRUCK HAS A TOW/HAUL FEATURE WHERE YOU PUSH A BUTTON TO TURN THE FEATURE ON AND OFF. I BOUGHT A TRAVEL TRAILER, I PUSHED THE BUTTON AND IT DIDN'T COME ON. I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A ORANGE WIRE IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT TEARS. EVERY PERSON THAT I SAW WITH THE PROBLEM HAD THAT ORANGE WIRE BROKEN, I OPENED UP MY STEERING COLUMN AND SURE ENOUGH THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. THERE IS A BRACE WHERE THE WIRE FITS IN. THE BRACE HAD CUT THE WIRE. I TRIED TO FIX IT BUT THE WIRE IS SO SMALL I COULDN'T. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEEL BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED, MAKING IT DANGEROUS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 100,000. UPDATED 6/6/12 *CN
CAME OUT ONE MORNNING TO FIND GAS ALL OVER THE DRIVEWAY. *TR
AS I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. AT THE TIME IT SEEMED THAT I HAD A COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING AND HAD TO SWERVE TO THE SIDE TO AVOID COLLIDING WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. AFTER I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND ASSESSED THE SITUATION, I REALIZED I HAD VERY LIMITED BRAKING, ABOUT 10%, AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME (1/2 MILE OR SO AND ALMOST NO TRAFFIC). I PARKED THE VEHICLE IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOTICED A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE DRIVEWAY UNDER THE JUNCTION OF THE CAB TO THE BED. I FELT THE BRAKE LINE AND DETERMINED THAT IT HAD TOTALLY FAILED AND WAS NOW IN TWO PIECES. I VISUALLY INSPECTED THE REST OF THE BRAKE LINES AND DETERMINED THEY WERE ALL IN A SIMILAR CONDITION AND EXTREMELY CORRODED AND ANY OF THEM COULD FAIL AT ANY TIME. I HAD THREE OF MY CHILDREN WITH ME AT THE TIME AND WAS VERY GRATEFUL THAT IT WASN'T WORSE THAN IT WAS. NO ONE WAS INJURED AND NO DAMAGE TO OTHER VEHICLES OR PROPERTY OCCURRED, BUT IT VERY EASILY COULD HAVE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AND AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET I KNOW THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT.
RUSTED BRAKE LINE LEAKING BRAKE FLUID CAUSIN REAR BRAKE FAILURE. *TR
WAS DRIVING UP A BOAT LAUNCH WHEN BRAKE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR LUCKY WE WEREN'T ON THE HIGWAY. *TR
BRAKE LINE BLEW UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. I HAVE RECENTLY BEEN ADVISED THAT ALL OF MY LINES NEED REPLACED DUE TO RUST AND COULD POSSIBLY BLOW UNEXPECTEDLY. I HAVE BEEN QUOTED ABOUT $500 FOR PARTS AND UP TO $800 FOR LABOR DEPENDING ON THE DIFFICULTY. I DO NOT LIVE IN AN AREA WITH A LOT OF SALT APPLIED TO THE ROADS. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. *TR
I WAS BRAKING WHILE EXITING MY LOCAL EXIT ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN HYDRAULIC BRAKE PRESSURE WAS SUDDENLY AND COMPLETELY LOST, SENDING THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. UNABLE TO STOP IN TIME, I WENT THROUGH THE STOP SIGN AT THE END OF THE RAMP. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND I WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE TURN AND BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER GETTING THE VEHICLE HOME ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, IT WAS OBVIOUS WHAT HAPPENED, A HYDRAULIC FITTING RUPTURED FROM CORROSION/RUST, WHICH DEPRESSURIZED THE BRAKE SYSTEM. AFTER REPLACING THE FITTING, A COMPLETELY SEPARATE BRAKE LINE BLEW OUT IN A DIFFERENT LOCATION WHICH WOULD/COULD HAVE CAUSED A SEPARATE INCIDENT. IT IS CLEAR THAT EVERY BRAKE LINE AND FITTING NEEDS TO BE CHANGED BECAUSE OF CORROSION/RUST. *TT
GM PICKUP TRUCKS -EXCESSIVE RUST TO BRAKE LINES, FRAME & CROSS-MEMBERS. I SUGGEST A METALLUGICAL ANALYSIS OF SAID PARTS FROM LATE '90S THRU 2007 VS '60S,'70'S, & '80'S MODELS WHICH DID NOT EXHIBIT EARLY FAILURE. THE EXCESSIVE RUST TO BRAKE LINES & UNDERCARRIAGE IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IS DANGEROUS TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE AND OTHER MOTORIST & PEDESTRIANS WHEN FAILURE OCCURS, NOT IF, BUT WHEN IT OCCURS. THE NHTSA HAS BEEN AWARE SINCE 2009 AND IT APPEARS TO THE PUBLIC THAT POLITICS IS IN PLAY. NO RESULTS HAVE SURFACED, BUT PLENTY OF DANGEROUSLY RUSTED & UNSAFE VEHICLES TRAVEL THE ROAD AMONGST YOUR LOVED ONES. *TR
JUST BACKED INTO THE ST. CLAIR RIVER TO RETRIEVE SMALL BOAT. LOADED BOAT. AS I PUT MY FOOT DOWN ON BRAKE PEDAL TO MOVE TRANSMISSION TO DRIVE, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR, GOT THE TRANS TO NEUTRAL, BUT NOT TO DRIVE. THE TRUCK AND BOAT STARTED TO ROLL INTO RIVER. PANIC SITUATION... JAMBED TRANS INTO DRIVE, AND WAS ABLE TO GET TRUCK OUT OF RIVER, WITH WATER LINE HALF WAY UP DRIVERS DOOR. ONCE HOME DISCOVERED BADLY RUSTED BRAKE LINE ABOVE FUEL TANK RUPTURED. REPAIRED... TWO MONTHS LATER, WHILE WIFE WAS DRIVING TRUCK TO WORK, BRAKE LINE BETWEEN MASTER CYLINDER AND ABS MODUAL FAILED. HAD ENOUGH! REPLACED ALL BRAKE LINES ON TRUCK EXCEPT THE ONE OVER REAR AXEL. I STILL WILLD O THAT ONE ALSO. ABS/BRAKE LIGHTS ON DASH ARE STILL ILLUMINATED. STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THAT ISSUE.. MANY DISCUSSIONS WITH OTHER SILVERADO OWNERS, AND AUTOPARTS EMPLOYEES. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE, WITH VERY DANGAROUS POTENTIAL FOR INJURYS.. *TR
SUDDEN TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE ON 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 PICK UP TRUCK. BRAKE LINES RUSTED AND LEAKING. REPAIRED REAR BRAKE LINE THAT WAS SEPARATED IN 2010. ALL LINES APPEAR TO BE SEVERELY CORRODED. *TR
I HAD COMPLETE FAILURE OF MY 2000 SILVERADO 1500 2WD EXT CAB BRAKE LINES . *TR
2000 Z71 3 DOOR BRAKE LINE FAILURE DUE TO EXCESSIVE FRAME ROTTING THE LOAD LIMITER THAT HITS THE AXLE BECAME WEEK AND ROTTED IT TILTED AND WAS ABLE TO COME IN CONTACT WITH THE BRAKE LINE LEAF SPRING BRACKET BROKE WENT THROUGH THE BED CROSS MEMBERS RUSTED OFF EXCESSIVE TILT IN TRUCK CAUSED REAR END TO GO ROCKER HAVE ALREADY BEEN REDONE ONCE BED TRUCK BED IS RUSTED WHEEL WELLS AND ON THE BED ITSELF TO THE POINT IT NOT WORTH FIXING FRAME HAD BEEN PATCHED BEFORE I GOT THE TRUCK AND IT ROTTING AROUND THE PATCHES IV PURCHASED A USED FRAME OF ANOTHER TRUCK BASICALLY IM TREATING THIS TRUCK LIKE AN OLD CLASSIC IT IN NEED OF FULL RESTORATION AND IT REALLY SHOULD NOT BE THE TRUCK IS ONLY 10 YEARS OLD MY 1989 SCOTTSDALE DIDN'T HAVE A 1/16 TH THE ISSUES AT 20 YEARS OLD WHEN I SOLD IT. *TR

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICE FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE LINES AS WELL AS THE FUEL LINE WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED AS THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING THE ARRIVAL OF THE PARTS NEEDED FOR REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 171,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT WHEN TRAVELING AT LOWS SPEEDS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WOULD ACTIVATE SUDDENLY, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO IDLE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM HIS LOCAL DEALER; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT DUE TO THE AGE AND MILEAGE, THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES IN MY 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. I HAVE HAD THE BRAKES STOP WORKING AFTER A BRAKE LINE RUPTURED WITH NO WARNING ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING AT A VERY LOW SPEED THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ENGAGED. DURING THE FAILURE THE VEHICLE ALSO EXPERIENCED AN INCREASED IN STOPPING DISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). WHILE GOING DOWN MY DRIVEWAY I HIT THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR.I BACKED IT BACK INTO THE GARAGE AND FOUND THE LINES ON THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WERE ROTTED AND LEAKING. I REPLACED THEM BUT JUST GOT MY TRUCK INSPECTED AND WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THE REST OF THE LINES REPLACED SOON AS THEY ARE RUSTED VERY BAD AND COULD GO AT ANYTIME.THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT SINCE I BOUGHT IT IN 2003 WITH 17000 MILES ON IT. IT NOW HAS ONLY 51000 MILES ON IT. *TR
ABS AND PARKING BRAKE LIGHTS WILL NOT GO OFF. DEALER HAS TOLD ME THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WILL NOT WORK IN THIS CONDITION. STATE OF COLORADO WILL NOT ALLOW MY VEHICLE TO PASS THE REQUIRED EMISSIONS TEST WITH THE VEHICLE IN THIS CONDITION. CHECKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL AND THERE WAS BUT MY STATE, COLORADO IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V39000). *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 PICKUP AND PULLING AN EMPTY 16\' CARGO TRAILER, AND STARTED TO DECEND A 8% GRADE HILL. I HAD THE TRANS IN TOW MODE AND STARTED APPLYING THE BRAKES TO SLOW FROM APPROX 50 MPH, AS I WAS GOING TO TURN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL. THE BRAKES FIRST HELD AND THEN AS I HELD BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE CONSTANT THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I QUICKLY REALIZED I WAS IN TROUBLE AND PULLED THE TRANS TO 3 AND THEN 2. THANK GOD THERE WAS NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME MAKING THE SAME LEFT TURN AS I, AS THERE WAS A STEEP TREE LINED HILL TO MY RIGHT AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC AT THAT POINT. I STEPPED ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND GOT THE TRUCK STOPPED BUT MISSED MY TURN BY APPROX. 100 FEET. I RECOVERED MY COMPOSURE AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES STOPPED SHAKING ENOUGH TO LIMP MY TRUCK HOME USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND 2ND GEAR. I WAS APPROX. 2 MILES FROM MY HOME ON A COUNTRY BLACKTOP ROAD. WHEN CHECKING OUT THE TRUCK BRAKE LINES FOUND THEM TO BE EXTREMELY RUSTY AND IN ONE PLACE SPLIT. I REPLACED THAT LINE ONLY TO FAIL A 2ND LINE WHILE BLEEDING THE BRAKES IN MY DRIVEWAY. AFTER REPLACING THE 2 LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS MODULE AND THE 2 LINES FROM THE MODULE TO THE FRONT WHEEL CYLINDERS, I AGAIN VENTURED OUT ONLY TO AGAIN LOSE MY BRAKES ON THE DOWNGRADE OF MY DRIVEWAY AGAIN, WHICH WAS THE LAST STRAW, AND I REPLACE ALL THE REMAINING LINES. PEDAL IS STILL MUSHY BUT THE BRAKES ARE HOLDING AND NOT LEAKING FLUID. I AM THE 2ND OWNER OF THE TRUCK AND PUT MAYBE 3,000 MILES A YEAR ON THE TRUCK. I ALSO OWN A 1997 AUTOMOBILE WHICH HAS OVER 300,000 MILES AND NEVER HAD A BRAKE PROBLEM AND THE BRAKE LINES SHOW VERY LITTLE RUST, AND I DRIVE THIS VEHICLE ALL WINTER WHILE I MIGHT USE THE TRUCK A HALF DOZEN TIMES DURING ADVERSE CONDITIONS. I BELIEVE GM IS AT FAULT HERE BY PUTTING CHEAP STEEL BRAKE LINES ON THEIR TRUCKS, PROBABLY AS A COST REDUCTION SINCE THEY
WHILE DRIVING MY SILVERADO APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AT 25 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING, A CAR IN FRONT OF ME ALREADY STOPPED THERE! I HAD SWERVE AROUND BY GOING ON THE SIDEWALK AND USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP, THANK GOD I DIDN'T HIT THAT CAR OR ANY PEDESTRIANS. I NOTICED BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING FROM FRAME ABOVE LEFT REAR WHEEL & REAR AXEL. I HAD THE SILVERADO TOWED TO THE GM SERVICE CENTER TO INSPECT THE BRAKE LINES; $99.00 PLUS TAX GM SERVICE CENTER SAID BRAKE LINES WHERE RUSTED THROUGH AND WOULD BE $1,012.98 PLUS TAX! TO REPAIR LEAKING LINES. I BELIEVE THIS IFAILURE IS DUE TO GM NOT UTILIZING STAINLESS STEEL BRAKE LINES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, AND THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED NUMEROUS TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETECTED THAT THE BRAKE LINE FAILED DUE TO RUST CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN ABNORMAL ODOR ENTERED INTO THE VEHICLE CABIN ACCOMPANIED BY AN UNUSUAL NOISE FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE MANIFOLD BOLTS WERE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 43,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE DUE TO BRAKE LINE CORROSION. THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. FIRST TWO INSTANCES WERE ON THE REAR LINES DUE TO EXPOSURE TO SALT SPRAY. RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS LOCATED AT THE RETAINMENT CLIP HOLDING THE TWO LINES RUNNING DOWNSTREAM OF THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE FRAME RAIL. BOTH LINES RUSTED THROUGH AND BEGAN LEAKING. LINES STARTED LEAKING WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED IN ICY CONDITIONS. ABS SYSTEM ENGAGED AND THE ADDED PRESSURE LEAD TO LINE FAILURE. VEHICLE CONTINUED INTO INTERSECTION DUE TO REDUCED BRAKE FUNCTION. FORTUNATELY DID NOT RESULT IN A CRASH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE WAITING TO EXIT A RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR BOARD. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE AND NOTICING AN ABNORMAL LEAK, HE FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS CORRODED AND HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED HIM TO A SERVICE MANAGER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 31,800.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES UNDER 10 MPH THE BRAKE PEDAL PULSATED, MAKING THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO STOP. THE CONTACT HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER OR CALLED THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK ( 05V379000) BUT IT DID NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,500. UPDATED 03/10/11 *BF THE CONSUMER WANTS THE COMPLAINT DISREGARDED. THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY A BEARING FAILURE AND NOT ABS FAILURE. UPDATED 05/23/11
VEHICLE BECAME VERY BOUNCY IN THE REAR, WOULD BOUNCE ENOUGH TO NEARLY SPIN OUT WHILE DRIVING. WENT TO CHANGE REAR SHOCKS AND SAW THAT BOTH CROSS MEMBERS OF THE FRAME ARE ROTTED OFF. THIS SUPPORTS THE FRAME AND IS THE ATTACHMENT FOR SHOCK MOUNTS AND GAS TANK. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO THE VEHICLE TO CORRECT THIS FAILURE. VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE OR ROAD WORTHY IN THIS CONDITION. (INCIDENTALLY, EXPERIENCED TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE AND ALL BRAKE LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED TWO YEARS AGO DUE TO ROTTING, AS WELL AS THE GAS TANK STRAPS. ON A SNOWY DAY GOING BACK HOME FOR LUNCH, I TRIED TO STOP AT A 4 WAY STOP BUT IT TOOK A LITTLE BIT LONGER THAN I EXPECTED. FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE ABS ENGAGEMENT AND ROAD CONDITION. BUT I FELT SOMETHING UNUSUAL, SO I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AFTER LEAVING THE 4WAY STOP AROUND 30MPH. THEN THE PEDAL STARTED LOOSING BACK PRESSURE AND IT WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR BEFORE IT STOPPED. I COULD COME BACK HOME WITH LOWER GEAR DOWN SHIFTING AND PARKING BRAKE. WHEN I CHECKED THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE, I FOUND FLUID LEAKAGE AROUND THE BRAKE LINE ON THE FLOOR.

BRAKE LINE UNDER DRIVERS SEAT FAILED DUE TO RUST. DRIVING AT ABOUT 25 MPH SLOWED DOWN BEHIND ANOTHER CAR WHEN BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE FRONT BRAKES HAD FAILED, STOPPED WITH REAR BRAKES ONLY. MISSED CAR IN FRONT BY INCHES. TRUCK WAS BROUGHT TO LOCAL SERVICE STATION AND I WAS TOLD ALL BRAKE LINES GOING TO THE ABS UNIT WERE BADLY RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
THE CONSUMER STATES HE DISCOVERED LEAKING BRAKE FLUID FROM THE BUNDLE OF BRAKE LINES BENEATH THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE CHEVY TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER. THE DEALER FOUND THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED. ONE HAD CORRODED TO THE POINT OF RUPTURE CAUSING FLUID TO LEAK. BRAKE COMPONENTS WERE FOUND TO BE RUSTED. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE WAS NOT DUE TO EXCESSIVE USE OR ABUSE THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THERE IS NO RECALL CURRENTLY FOR THIS DEFECT. THE CHEVROLET COMPANY REPRESENTATIVE REFUSED FURTHER ASSISTANCE CITING THE AGE AND MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE. THE FRONT LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS UNIT AS WELL AS FROM THE ABS UNIT TO THE TWO FRONT CALIPERS WERE REPLACED. THE BRAKE BLEEDING VALUES AND HOSES WERE CLEANED. THE SYSTEM WAS BLED.
THE CONSUMER FOUND LEAKING BRAKE FLUID BENEATH THE DRIVER'S DOOR. A BRAKE LINE RUPTURED DUE TO RUSTING. THIS REPRESENTED A SEVERE AND IMMEDIATE SAFETY HAZZARD. THE SILVERADO TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER. THE DEALER FOUND FRONT BRAKE LINES RUSTED AND ONE RUPTURTED ON LH SIDE OF VEHICLE. REAR BRAKE LINES RUSTED BUT NOT AS BAD. THE DEALER FABRICATED AND FLARED NEW BRAKE LINES TO THE FRONT BRAKE COMPONENTS. THEY ALSO CLEANED OUT BRAKE VALVES AND HOSES. THE SYSTEM WAS BLED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINE RUPTURE WAS NOT DUE TO ABUSE. THE CHEVROLET MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 1-800-222-1020, GM CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE. CHEVROLET REFUSED TO COMPENSATE FOR REPAIRS CITING AGE AND MILEAGE.
I WAS BACKING MY TRUCK UP TO PARK IT IN MY YARD, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. WHEN TOOK A LOOK AT TO WHAT CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN, I FOUND A HOLE IN MY LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE UNDER A WIRE HARNESS THAT WAS ROUTED OVER THE BRAKE LINE. THE LINE WAS BADLY RUSTED. THE ROUTING WAS INCORRECT TO KEEP FROM WEARING A HOLE IN THE LINE. I THINK THIS WAS DONE AT THE FACTORY CAUSES I HAVE NEVER MESSED WITH THE WIRE HARNESS, IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THERE. *TR
I WAS BACKING MY TRUCK UP TO PARK IT IN YARD, AND HIT THE BRAKES AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. AFTER INVESTIGATING I FOUND A HOLE IN THE LINE TO THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. THE HOLE WAS CAUSED BY A WIRE HARNESS RUBBING ON THE BRAKE LINE. AT THE SAME TIME OF LOOKING AT THE PROBLEM I DISCOVERED THE BRAKE LINE WERE VERY BADLY RUSTED. ANY WAY THE WIRE HARNESS HAD TO BE PUT THERE AT THE FACTORY BECAUSE I HAVE NEVER MESSED WITH IT AND NO ONE ELSE HAS EITHER. I FEEL THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN CAUGHT AT THE INSPECTION AREA ON THE ASSEMBLY LINE. BUT NOW I HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED DO TO THE POOR WORKMANSHIP BY THE FACTORY. AND WHEN I WENT TO MOVE THE TRUCK TO MY BARN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DID NOT HOLD VERY WELL, YEAH MORE PROBLEMS.

THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 60,400.
FUEL SENSOR CAUSING FUEL GAUGE TO ACT ERRATIC. HAVE TO USE TRIP METER TO KEEP UP WITH MILEAGE SO I WON'T RUN OUT OF GAS AGAIN! GAUGE MAY SHOW EMPTY AND CAUSE LOW FUEL LIGHT TO COME ON WHEN THERE IS A FULL TANK- TO SHOWING HALF FULL WHEN IT IS ACTUALLY EMPTY.
BRAKE LINE LEAKING FLUID. WIFE STEPPED ON BRAKES AND ROLLED THROUGH INTERSECTION OF HIGHWAY K AND HIGHWAY N IN ST. CHARLES, MO. THE LINE THAT FAILED IS IN THE BUNDLE ALONG THE FRAME UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT. ALL THE LINES SHOW SIGNS OF RUST. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS NOT THE FIRST OCCURRENCE. JUST GLAD SHE DID NOT HIT ANYONE OR GET INJURED. HOPE YOU QUIT DRAGGING YOUR FEET ON THIS ISSUE AND MAKE THE CAR COMPANY THAT THE USA IS INVESTED IN FIX THEIR BRAKE PROBLEM. *TR
MY WIFE COMPLAINED THE BRAKES FELT LIKE THEY HAD AIR IN THE LINES AND STOPPING WAS DIFFICULT. THE BRAKE LINES ON MY TRUCK RUSTED OUT, CAUSING A LOSS OF VEHICLE BRAKING POWER. OF ALL THE VEHICLES THAT I'VE OWNED OVER THE YEARS, I HAVE NEVER HAD A BRAKE LINE RUST OUT! ON 11/13/2010, THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT LINE RUSTED THROUGH WHEN MY CHILDREN AND I WERE IN THE TRUCK. IN A RESTAURANT PARKING LOT, I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT LOW, BUT THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO STILL HAVE BRAKING POWER. I DROVE ABOUT 3/4 OF A MILE TO A GAS STATION AND HAD ALMOST NO BRAKING POWER WHEN I GOT THERE. I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND BRAKE FLUID WAS SPRAYING OUT! MY TRUCK WAS TOWED HOME AND THE NEXT DAY I SPLICED IN A REPLACEMENT BRAKE LINE, BUT NOTICED THAT THEY ALL SEEMED TO BE VERY RUSTY. IN AUGUST OF 2012 ANOTHER BRAKE LINE RUSTED THROUGH, THIS TIME WHILE THE TRUCK WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY. I HAD STARTED THE TRUCK TO LEAVE, AND PUSHED ON THE BRAKE TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I EXITED THE VEHICLE AND SAW BRAKE FLUID SPRAYING UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK. AT THIS POINT, I DECIDED TO REPLACE ALL OF THE FAULTY FACTORY BRAKE LINES WITH AFTER-MARKET STAINLESS STEEL BRAKE LINES. I'M STILL IN THE PROCESS OF DOING THIS JOB, AS IT IS VERY MAINTENANCE INTENSIVE JOB, AND I DON'T HAVE A LOT OF TIME TO WORK ON THE VEHICLE, BUT LUCKILY I HAVE OTHER VEHICLES TO DRIVE. I DO NOT THINK THAT THE BRAKE LINES SHOULD HAVE FAILED SO QUICKLY, CONSIDERING I'VE NEVER EXPERIENCED A BRAKE LINE FAILURE ON ANY OTHER VEHICLE.
