WHILE DRIVING STRAP TO THE TAILGATE SHEARED OFF. CONSUMER NOTICED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED THE TAILGATE, CABLES, AND TOOLS WERE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE. DRIVER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE TAILGATE AND CABLES WILL NOT BE REPLACED DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DECISION. *AK
BATTERY FAILURE, FRONT AND REAR ROTORS PROBLEM. * BF
WHEN BRAKES PEDAL IS DEPRESSED THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ENGAGE AT LOW SPEED JUST PRIOR TO STOPPING. THIS OCCURED ON DRY PAVEMENT. PROBLEM IS PERSISTENT AND HAPPENED EACH TIME I STOPPED.
CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR THE REPAIR RECALL 04V129000 REPAIRS CONCERNING TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLE. CONSUMER STATED THAT DEALER REPLACED THE PARTS WITH OTHER DEFECTIVE PARTS. *AK
THECONSUMER NOTICED FLUID LEAKING UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A CRACK IN THE TRANSFER CASE AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER A RECALL. *JB *SC
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP COMPLETELY. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND DROVE IT TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE DRIVER THAT THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JB THE ROTORS CORRODED AT VERY LOW MILEAGE. THERE WAS FRONT AND REAR BRAKE PULSATION. BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKE ROTORS WERE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE PADS. *SC *JB
2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HAS BROKEN TAILGATE STRAPS AND I WAS INFORMED BY GM TO CALL MY LOCAL DEALER IMMEDIATELY AND HAVE THEM REPLACED. KOOL CHEVORLET OF GRAND RAPIDS WOULD NOT HONOR THIS, AND TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE THEM. WHEN I ASKED WHAT HAPPENS IF IT FALSE OFF THEY SAID IT WAS GMC PROBLEM .SAFTEY IS OBVIOUSLY NOT A CONCERN HERE.I CALLED TO MAKE A APPOINTMENT LIKE MY GM DOCUMENTSTATED AND THEY STATED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE THE STRAPS AND STATED THEY WOULD STILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE DEFECTIVE.*AK

THE FUEL SENSOR STOPS WORKING. IT LOOKS AS IF WE STILL HAVE PLENTY OF FUEL WHEN IN FACT THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF GAS. WHILE WE HAVE CAUGHT IT IN TIME THE FUEL SENSOR HAS BROKEN AND BEEN REPLACED TWICE IN THE LAST SEVEN MONTHS AND IS BROKEN AGAIN. SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES COULD RESULT IF WE WERE TO RUN OUT OF GAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON A FREEWAY.*AK
WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED CONSUMER HEARD A POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE DRIVELINE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
DT : ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO GOING SLOWYLY BRAKES WERE APPLIED HARD BUT THEY WOULDNT WORK, AND VEHICLE WENT THROUGH THE GARAGE. DEALER REPORTED THAT THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS WERE CORRODED. THE PROBLEM WAS REPAIRED WITH A NEW WHEEL ON THE LEFT SIDE FRONT. THE RIGHT FRONT WAS CLEANED. THE PROBLEM WAS RETURNING. WHEN APPROACHING A STOP SIGN THE ABS WAS HEARD, AND RESULTED IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THIS OCCURRED IN ALL CONDITIONS. THE ABS WARNING LIGHT DID NOT COME ON.*AK
WHEN STARTING UP THE VEHICLE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES DO NOT ACTIVATE. THE CONSUMER STARTED VEHICLE 10 MINUTES LATER AND NOTHING HAPPENED. TWENTY MINUTES LATER, CONSUMER STARTED VEHICLE AND THIS TIME EVERYTHING WORKED. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED INTERMITTANTLY. *AK *NM
THE CONSUMER NOTICED WHILE INSPECTING THE VEHICLE ALL FOUR TIRE HAD STRESS MARKS LOCATED ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE SIDEWALL WHEEL. THE CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER FOR AN APPOINTMENT AND INSPECTION. GOODYEAR WRANGLER AT P245/70R16 PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE #DOT. *JB
DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS FAILED TO LIGHT AFTER BULB REPLACEMENT, DEALER STATES THAT THE SOCKETS ARE OVEHEATED AND REQUIRES A WIRING HARNESS, NEW SOCKETS AND LOWER WATTAGE BULBS, COST ESTIMATE $180.00. *AK
THE ANTILOCK BRAKES FAILED TO ALLOW VEHICLE TO STOP. ABS ENGAGED ITSELF ON DRY PAVEMENT AT LOW SPEED. AFTER TRYING TO REPEAT THE PROBLEM, I FOUND IT OCCURED INTERMITTENTLY; AND IF IT DID IT WAS WHILE BRAKING AT 7 MPH. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE VEHICLE IN ABS "MODE" IS FIRMLY PRESS PEDAL TO FLOOR AND ALLOW 3 TIMES THE STOPPING DISTANCE. I HAVE SINCE REMOVED THE ABS FUSE AND THE TRUCK STOPS NORMALLY. *AK
CONSUMER RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION ENCLOSURE NUMBER 04039. THIS WAS AN IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN FOR REPLACEMENT OF FUEL INJECTIONS. NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. SERVICE MANAGER REGGIE GARRET. *AK THE FUEL INJECTOR LINES WERE RUSTED OUT SPEWING DIESEL EVERYWHERE. *SC
WHILE SITTING STILL OR DRIVING FUEL GAUGE MOVES BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN FULL AND EMPTY, REGUARDLESS OF AMOUNT OF FUEL IN TANK.FUEL LIGHT COMES ON WHEN IT MOVES TO EMPTY. PROBLEM STARTED AT ABOUT 65,000 MILES.
2001 CHEVY SILVERADO FULL SIZE PICKUP TRUCK WITH LONG BED. TAILGATE LATCHES FAILED IN SEPT 2004. CARGO SHIFTED AGAINST TAILGATE AND TAILGATE OPENED ALLOWING PARTIAL CARGO TO FALL OUT ON HIGHWAY 60 SOUTH IN PA, SOUTH OF THE PA TURNPIKE. NO PRIOR WARNING OR OTHER TYPE OF FAILURE. NO DAMAGE TO VEHICLE OR CARGO BUT COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS IF HIGH TRAFFIC. SEVERAL FAILURES SINCE WHILE JUST DRIVING WITH ON CARGO. 25000 MILES ON THE TRUCK AND ONLY 3 YS OLD.*JB
NO SPECIFIC EVENTS LEADING UP TO FAILURE. 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 EXT CAB PICKUP. ABS KICKS ON EVERYTIME YOU TRY TO STOP. IT OCCURS AT LOW SPEEDS ON DRY PAVEMENT (EX. KICKS IN WHEN PULLING INTO PARKING SPACE AND IT EFFECTS STOPPING TIME & DISTANCE AND FEELS LIKE I'M NOT GOING TO STOP IN TIME BEFORE HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME). THE FEELING OF NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP IN TIME IS A VERY UNCOMFORTABLE FEELING!! I HAVE NOT HAD THIS REPAIRED YET, BUT I REALLY BELIEVE THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS FIX. I NEED TO GET THIS FIXED SOON, BEFORE SOMEBODY DOES GET HURT OR DAMAGE DOES OCCUR.*AK
THE BRAKES DID NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY WHEN APPLIED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO A ROLLING STOP. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BY OWNER.*AK
I OWN A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. RECENTLY THE ABS CONTROL MODULE (ECBM) FAILED, CAUSING MY ABS MOTOR TO RUN CONTINUOUSLY (EVEN WITH THE KEY REMOVED FROM THE CAR). UPON INVESTIGATION, THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL TRUCK. THE DEALER QUOTED MY AROUND $1100.00 TO REPAIR THIS. GIVEN THE FACT THAT THIS IS SUCH A COMMON PROBLEM, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE GM RECALL THIS PART. AS THIS AFFECTS THE CAR'S ABS SYSTEM, IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO HAVE THE TRUCK REPAIRED, POTENTIALLY WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART.*AK
THROTTLE PEDAL STICKS AT IDLE, WHEN I PUSH ON THE THROTTLE TRUCK JUMPS FORWARD. THIS STARTED ABOUT 55,000 MILES AND NOW HAVE 63,000. THE PROBLEM HAPPENS DAILY, BUT NOT ALL THE TIME. *JB
THE VEHICLE'S TRANSFER CASE FAILED. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THE DEALER LOCATED A HOLE IN THE ALUMINUM CASE. *NM THE HOLE ALLOWED FLUID TO BE DISCHARGED WHICH MEANT THE TRANSFER CASE COULD NOT BE REBUILT. *JB
THE CABLE TO THE TAILGATE BROKE WHILE LOADING. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. DEALER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND THE CHECK ENGINE SENSOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
PARKING BRAKES ON A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. I HAVE 42000 MILES AND THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE PARKING BRAKES WORE OUT PREMATURALLY. HAVE NEVER BEEN ABUSED AND USE NORMALLY. THE FIRST TIME AROUND AT 21000 MILES. PARKING BRAKES LINNING ARE WORN BEYOND RECOMMENDED THICKNESS AND CANNOT HOLD THE VEHICLE. FIRST TIME I REPLACED THE LINNINGS AND WILL AGAIN HAVE TO PLACE THE LININGS. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL THE BRAKES FAILED. VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP COMPLETELY AND CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE REAR ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WHILE LOADING THE VEHICLE TAILGATE DROPPED OPEN AND PROCEEDED TO FALL OFF. FORTUNATE NOBODY WAS HURT. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED. *AK
ABS SYSTEM INTERMITTENTLY ENGAGES AT LOW SPEED (@5MPH). WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE ABS ENGAGED AND I ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN THE NEXT SLOT. ALSO, WHILE PARKING IN FRONT A A RESTARAUNT, THE ABS ENGAGED AND I ALMOST DROVE INTO THE LOBBY. I'VE HAD THE SPEED SENSORS REPLACED AT ABOUT 60K MILESAND TODAY (73K MILES)THE HUBS ARE BEING REPLACED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER NOTICED SMOKE COMING IN FROM THE VENTS. CONSUMER PULLED OVER, AND VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. CONSUMER CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED HOME. REQUESTED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. *AK
INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING UNDER 15 MPH, THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THEY FAILED. THE DEALERSHIP INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE ABS MODULE SENSOR AT THE CONSUMER'S EXPENSE OF $294.14. *AK *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING, THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE STARTED VIBRATING FROM THE REAR. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND PULLED OVER. THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE REAR DRIVER TIRE BLEW OUT. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO CHANGE THE TIRE AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. FIRESTONE STEEL TEX P24575R16 LOAD RANGE D #DOT VN11B1C. THE CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED FIRESTONE. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH AND HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES. HEARD NOISES COMING FROM REAR OF VEHICLE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE REAR BRAKES LOCKED UP. TOOK VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR REPAIRS AND WAS INFORMED THE ROTORS ON THE REAR BRAKES FAILED TO RELEASE AND CAUSED THE BRAKE PADS TO WEAR OUT. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO REPAIR. *AK THE BRAKE PADS STUCK ON THE CLIPS AND WOULD NOT RELEASE FROM THE ROTORS. *TC
THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE FAILED WHILE DRIVING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. AS A RESULT, THE STEERING FAILED AS WELL. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
2001 CHEVY TRUCK STRAP HOLDING TAILGATE FAILED IN CENTER OF CABLE THROWING ME TO GROUND. *JB
WHILE BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS BRAKE PEDAL WOULD BE HARD WHEN DEPRESSED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
CONSUMER HEARD A POPPING SOUND FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WHEN TURNING EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
I WAS SEEING A LOW COOLANT WARNING LIGHT THAT WAS INTERMITTENT. I ADDED DISTILLED WATER TO THE COOLANT SYSTEM SEVERAL TIME IN THE AMOUNT FOR A TOTAL OF ABOUT A HALF GALLON. I SEARCHED FOR A LEAK IN THE COOLANT HOSES BUT COULD NOT FIND A LEAK. I CHECKED THE DIP STICK TO SEE IF THE OIL WAS CLOUDY OR HAD BUBBLES BUT DID NOT SEE ANY. (I USE MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC OIL). AFTER ABOUT A WEEK THE COOLANT WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AT A HIGHER FREQUENCY SO I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER. THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS HEAD GASKET LEAKS AND POSSIBLE WATER PUMP GASKET LEAKS. THE BILL FOR THE REPAIR WAS $1200. I WAS LATER TOLD THE HEAD BOLTS LOST TORQUE AND "STRETCHED". THE HEADS HAD NEVER BEEN REMOVED AND THE TRUCK HAD NEVER REQUIRED ANY REPAIRS EXCEPT FOR THE BROKEN TAIL GATE CABLES WHICH CAUSED ME TO FALL OFF THE BACK TRYING TO LOAD MY KAYAK ON TOP. I DO NOT BELIEVE A TRUCK WITH 72000 MILES SHOULD HAVE TO HAVE THE HEAD BOLTS REPLACED. GM WAS OF NO HELP BECAUSE THEY KNEW I HAD INSURANCE TO COVER 80% OF THE REPAIR THEY DID EXTEND THE WARRANTY UP TO 100,000 MILES ON THE HEAD BOLTS AND FOR THE CLATTER IN THE VALVES THAT THEY SAID IS NORMAL. NEXT TRUCK WILL BE TOYOTA. *AK
DT: AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE THE OWNER NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A BRAKE PROBLEM. BRAKES FELT MUSHY, AND OPERATED POORLY. THE OWNER WAS GOING TO TRY TO LIVE WITH THIS, THEN IT GOT WORSE. THE OWNER WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH. TRAFFIC STOPPED AND THE OWNER PUSHED THE BRAKES TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T STOP. HAD TO VEER ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD IN ORDER TO GIVE THE TRUCK ENOUGH ROOM TO STOP. THERE WAS ONLY 20,00 MILES WHEN THIS OCCURRED. THE OWNER GOT THE PARTS, AND THEN TOOK OFF FRONT WHEELS AND THE FRONT BRAKES LOOKED LIKE BRAND NEW. HOWEVER, WHEN HE PULLED OFF THE REAR WHEELS HE SAW THAT ROTORS WERE WARPED. THE OWNER CONTACTED GM, THEY ADVISED HIM TO TAKE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. HE TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND DEALER ADVISED HIM THAT THE ROTORS COULD NOT BE TURNED. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THEY WERE SENDING THE ROTORS BACK TO GM FOR REPLACEMENT. HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT DO THAT. THE OWNER DID NOT BELIEVE THAT THE DEALERSHIP WAS TELLING THE TRUTH. THE OWNER WAS GOING TO REPLACE THE ROTORS HIMSELF. *AK
PARKING BRAKE, DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS, O2 SENSOR, UEL GAUGE . *AK
WHILE DRIVING, THE TIRE BLEW OUT AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE LEFT SIDE MIRROR AND LEFT FRONT BUMPER. THE CONSUMER REPLACED ALL TIRES. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THE LEFT TIRED TREAD SEPARATED. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED AND CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES THEY FAILED. VEHICLE TOOK LONGER TO STOP. DEALERSHIP INSPECTED VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES, AND TECHNICIAN INDICATED THAT VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED BY MANUFACTURER. *AK
ABS SENSOR CORROSION CAUSING ABS TO ACTIVATE AT FIVE MILES PER HOUR LEADING TO BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELING TO FLOOR AND LOSS OF BRAKING ABILITY. *AK
DT CONSUMER STATED THERE IS A GRINDING AND VIBRATION IN THE CLUTCH OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT IT WAS NORMAL FOR THE CLUTCH. *JB

WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH LEFT REAR TIRE EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION. FIRESTONE, ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT, TIRE SIZE LT 245/75R16, DOT# VN11B1CS300. VEHICLE SUSTAINED QUARTER PANEL DAMAGE FROM THE TREAD FLAPPING AGAINST THAT AREA. DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE BOTH NOTIFIED. *AK
(1)HIGH VIBRATION FELT ESPECIALLY AT SLOWER SPEEDS. STEERING PULLING FIRMLY TO THE RIGHT.(2)TREAD VERY BUMPY AROUNG ALL FOUR TIRES. THUMPING ON TREAD ,CAUSES HOLLOW SOUND IN VARIOUS PLACES AROUND CIRCUMFERENCE OF TIRES. (3) DUE TO THE HISTORY OF FIRESTONE TIRES AND REPORTED FAILURES OF THESE TIRES, I HAD THEM REPLACED BEFORE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OCCURRED.*AK
THE CONSUMER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 04V045000 CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, PICKUP TRUCKS, AND PASSENGER VANS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 135, ?PASSENGER CAR BRAKE SYSTEMS.? SOME OF THESE VEHICLES WERE PRODUCED WITH AN OUT-OF-SPECIFICATION BRAKE HYDRO-BOOST HOUSING RELIEF VALVE BORE. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO HIS VEHICLE. *JB THE VEHICLE WAS JUST 3831 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT THE CONSUMER NOTICED LEAKING DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD. I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM GENERAL MOTORS IN APRIL 2004 INDICATING THE TAILGATE CABLES ON A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO I PURCHASED WERE DEFECTIVE AND WOULD BE REPLACE WHEN NEW ONES BECOME AVAILABLE. BOTH CABLES WITHOUT WARNING IN JULY 2004 WHILE I WAS SITTING ON THE TAILGATE. LUCKILY, I WAS NOT INJURED. BUT THE POTENTIAL FOR INJURY EXISTS. I DID FALL TO THE GROUND. THE CABLES WERE REPLACED BY GM FREE OF CHARGE WITH THE SAME STYLE. I HAVE CONTACTED GM RECENTLY (FEB. 8 & 9, 2005) ABOUT THE PERMANENT REPLACEMENT CABLES. THEY HAVE INFORMED ME THIS VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL TO REPLACE THE CABLES EVEN THOUGH MINE HAVE FAILED BEFORE AND I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. *JB
