FUEL LINES LEAKING. ALL LINES NEED REPLACING. *TR
WE HAVE JUST HAD 27 FEET OF FRONT BRAKE LINE REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME IN OUR 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 SERIES. TWO YEARS AGO LOST BRAKES AND LUCKILY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT. GM DEALERSHIP REPLACED, AND THE LINE FAILED YET AGAIN LAST WEEK. THIS TIME MY 19-YEAR-OLD SON WAS DRIVING WITH A PASSENGER. LUCKILY, HE AVOIDED THE CARS IN FRONT OF HIM AT A STOP LIGHT BY CROSSING TWO LANES SO THAT HE COULD SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN ON THE GRASSY ROADSIDE. REFUSED TO TAKE TO GM FOR REPAIR THIS TIME. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT FAULTY CHEVY BRAKELINES IN EARLY 2000 CHEVY TRUCKS BEFORE SOMEONE LOSES THEIR LIFE. *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BREAKING LEAVING STUDS IN THE HEADS, HEATING UP ENGINE COMPARTMENTS, RELEASES CARBON MONOXIDE, AFFECTS O2 SENSOR AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER. WILL NOT PASS EMISSIONS IN SOME STATES. GM NOT STANDING BEHIND THIS 1999-2008 ISSUE. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IS EXPENSIVE TO FIX. GM MECHANICS DENYING ANY SUCH ISSUES. PLEASE CHECK- IN TO THIS. EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BREAKING OFF LEAVING STUDS IN THE HEADS (4) MY LATE 2002 CHEVY Z71 DEVELOPED AN EXHAUST LEAK AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER STARTED BANGING AT IDLE OR AFTER PARKED. ENGINE HAS BLACK EXHAUST ON THE HEAD WHERE WE FOUND THE MAIN LEAK. SO, CARBON MONOXIDE HAS BEEN COMING INTO THE CAB AND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT SEEMS HOTTER THAN NORMAL. WHEN CHECKING INTO THE ISSUE, I FOUND EVERY TRUCK IN OUR COMPANY FLEET HAS THIS SAME ISSUE AND OUR ASSOCIATES THAT HAVE PERSONAL TRUCKS DRIVING TO WORK CHECKED THEIRS AND THEY ALSO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. FROM 1999 THRU 2008 YEARS. WHEN CONTACTING OUR LOCAL CHEVY DEALER, THEY ADVISED THEY HAD NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF ANY ISSUES LIKE THIS. I FIND THAT HARD TO BELIEVE. EVERY PERSON I MENTION THIS TO, CHECKS THEIR TRUCK AND HAS THE SAME ISSUES WITH THE BROKEN BOLTS. THERE IS DEFINITELY A PROBLEM WITH THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD CONTRACTING AND EXPANDING TOO MUCH- CHEAP STEEL ATTACHED TO ALUMINUM HEADS APPEAR ON ALL OF THE V-8 TRUCK ENGINES. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH HEAT AND CARBON MONOXIDE AS WELL AS THE COSTS TO REPAIR. *TR
SEVERE BRAKE FLUID LEAK ON MAIN STEEL LINE(S) UNDER DRIVERS SIDE ABOUT 1/2 WAY TOWARD THE REAR WHEELS. UNABLE TO DRIVE VEHICLE. PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AS I WAS TRYING TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN GEAR. PUMPED BRAKES WITH NO INCREASE IN PEDAL. LOOKED UNDER VEHICLE AND BRAKE FLUID ON CEMENT. *KB
I HAVE OWNED THIS PICKUP SINCE IT HAD ABOUT 15,000 MILES ON IT. I KEEP IT IN A GARAGE AND DRIVE IT ABOUT 5K MILES A YEAR. I HAD A BRAKE FAILURE AND ALMOST KILLED MY ENTIRE FAMILY DRIVING BACK FROM NH. I HIT THE BRAKES ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE BRAKE LINES RUPTURED CAUSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GO RIGHT TO THE FLOOR AND LOSE ALL BRAKE PRESSURE. I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK. WHY DON'T THEY MAKE THESE OUT STAINLESS STEEL, ALUMINUM OR A NON CORROSIVE MATERIAL? SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS IMMEDIATELY. THIS IS SO DANGEROUS. SERIOUSLY, SOMEONE COULD HAVE DIED. *TR
TWO EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ON A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD ROTTED AND SHEERED OFF AND ONE OTHER DOES NOT SEEM TO BE AS RUSTED AND JUST BROKE OFF AT THE HEAD OF THE BOLT. THIS BOLT FAILURE COULD CAUSE MANY ISSUES, ONE BEING, POSSIBLE FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, OR CATALYTIC FAILURE, O2 SENSOR ISSUES, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYING ON. *TR
2002 CHEVY TRUCK 2500. ATTORNEY WRITES ON BEHALF OF CLIENT IN REGARDS TO AIR BAG FAILURE DURING A CRASH *TGW THE CONSUMER HIT THE STEERING WHEEL, WHICH CAUSED SEVERE BRUISING TO HIS CHEST AND OTHER PARTS OF HIS BODY. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKES, THE ABS ACTIVATED ERRONEOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SPEED SENSOR WAS CORRODED AND WOULD HAVE TO BE CLEANED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE SPEED SENSOR WAS CLEANED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL BEARING, HUB ASSEMBLY AND SPEED SENSOR INDEPENDENTLY YET THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,000.
COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP. ALL BRAKE LINES COMING OUT OF THE BLOCK BY THE DRIVERSIDE FRONT DOOR ARE RUSTED BEYOND RECOGNITION. REAR BREAK LINE FAILURE OCCURRED IN 2010 SAME BRAKE LINE CONDITION. I KEEP MY TRUCK CLEAN AND DO NOT OFF ROAD WITH IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES FAILED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED AND IT EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 242,020. UPDATED 02/0812 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS. THE NEXT DAY, HE WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A BRAKE LINE FAILURE, BETWEEN THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE ABS UNIT, THERE WAS RUSTING AND BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING. THE CONSUMER REPLACED THE BRAKE LINES WITH STAINLESS STEEL LINES. UPDATED 03/08/12
I HAVE A BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT WHICH IS ALL TOO COMMON ON ALL V-8 GM ENGINES ON THE SILVERADO SIERRA SERIES TRUCKS. THERE ARE OFTEN MULTIPLE BROKEN BOLTS MOST COMMONLY THE FRONT OR REAR BOLTS. THIS SHOULD BE UNDER RECALL BECAUSE IT CREATES EXHAUST LEAKS AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE WHICH ADDS A SAFETY ISSUE AND FINANCIAL BURDEN BECAUSE IT IS A VERY EXPENSIVE AND LABOR INTENSIVE REPAIR. COMPLAINTS ARE ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND YOUTUBE. AS AN ASE MASTER AUTO AND TRUCK TECH I'VE REPAIRED DOZENS AND SEEN DOZENS MORE BEING IN A GOVERNMENT FLEET OPERATION. GM SHOULD CARRY THE FINANCIAL BURDEN TO REPAIR THESE VEHICLES NOT PUT THE BURDEN ON THE CONSUMER. PLEASE GET THE WORD OUT AND LETS GET GM TO PAY UP. *TR
MY REAR BUMPER ON MY CHEVY 1500 4X4 SILVERADO TRUCK IS ROTTING OFF THE TRUCK, YES ROTTING NEVER IN MY LIFE I SEEN POOR QUALITY IN PARTS GM IS USING, REAR BUMPERS ARE SUPPOSE TO PROTECT YOU FROM A CRASH THIS BUMPER IS ROTTING OFF MY TRUCK THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AND APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL RELEASED ABRUPTLY TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO FIRST GEAR IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE RESIDENCE FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE CONTACT DETECTED THE BRAKE LINES COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY STATED THERE WAS NOT A RECALL RELATED TO THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,700.
ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE EBCM (BRAKE TRACTION CONTROL MODULE) INTERNALLY SHORTED CAUSING PUMP TO RUN ALL THE TIME, EVEN WHEN VEHICLE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF. DANGER OF ABS FAILURE AND FIRE WITHOUT UNIT REPLACEMENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HYDRAULIC ANTILOCK SYSTEM FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES: HYDRAULIC ANTI LOCK) JANUARY 19, 2007. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ASSIST WITH ANY FURTHER REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 130,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN 5-20 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKES, THERE WAS AN INCREASE IN STOPPING TIME. THE ABS LIGHT WOULD THEN ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK) IN SEPTEMBER 2005. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT SINCE THE RECALL HAD ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE, THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO ASSIST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,400.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED, THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED HAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,00.

WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE BRAKES WOULD NOT RESPOND AND THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY APPLYING EXCESSIVE FORCE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED, FRACTURED AND LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. UPDATED 12/16/11 *BF
I WAS PULLING INTO STREET FROM ALLY AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKE, THEY WENT TO THE FLOOR AND LEFT A PUDDLE OF FLUID IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRUCK FRAME, LUCKILY I WAS NOT IN TRAFFIC OR THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DAMAGING. *TR *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 5 MPH, HE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ENGAGED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT BOTH FRONT SPEED SENSORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. UPDATED 03/14/12*LJ

THE PARKING BRAKE ON MY TRUCK WILL NOT HOLD AS IT SHOULD, THUS CAUSING VEHICLE TO ROLL DOWN DRIVEWAY. THERE IS A RECALL FOR SILVERADO'S WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS,( DEFECT INVESTIGATION # EA04011 GM RECALL #05042 NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID# 05V161000) MINE IS A AUTOMATIC, BUT THE AUTO AND MANUAL USE THE SAME PARKING BRAKE SET-UP. I HAVE DONE SOME READING ON-LINE CHEVROLET TRUCK FORUMS AND THERE ARE ALLOT OF SILVERADO/SUV GM OWNERS WITH AUTOMATICS THAT HAVE THIS SAME TYPE OF BRAKE SYSTEM THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE, NOT HOLDING DUE TO PREMATURE WEAR OUT OF PARKING BRAKE SHOE LINING. THERE IS ALSO A GM TECH SERV BULL FOR THIS MATTER AS WELL, BUT NOT A RECALL FOR THE VEHICLES WITH AUTO TRANSMISSIONS, WHAT ARE THE OWNERS OF AUTOMATICS LESS IMPORTANT. THE TSB HAS THE DEALERS REPLACE THE SPRING RETAINER CLIP JUST AS THE RECALL DOES. I THINK THE TSB NEEDS TO TAKE A HARD LOOK AT THE PARKING BRAKE ISSUES ON THE TRUCKS/SUVS WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS AS WELL. *TR
THE BRAKE LINES ON MY 2002 CHEVY 2500 HD COMPLETELY BLEW OUT CAUSING ME TO GO THROUGH A RED LIGHT ENDING UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. *TR
ON 11/09/11 I BROUGHT MY TRUCK IN FOR STATE INSPECTION. TWO MINUTES AFTER GIVING THE KEYS TO THE MECHANIC, HE CAME BACK AND SAID THAT THE TRUCK HAD NO BRAKES. THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINE RUPTURED AS HE ATTEMPTED TO BRING THE TRUCK INTO THE GARAGE TO INSPECT. THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES ARE ALL COMPLETELY RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT THEY ALL NEED REPLACED. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. NOT ONLY SHOULD THIS BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED AT GM'S EXPENSE,, MORE IMPORTANTLY THE MATERIAL THAT FUTURE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES ARE MADE OF, NEED TO BE REGULATED AS TO BE A RUST FREE MATERIAL. *TR
BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH.... TRUCK WAS NOT USED HARD, UNDERCARRIAGE MORE THAN ONCE WAS WASHED TO TRY TO REMOVE SALT CORROSION . IT JUST SEEMS SUCH AN EXPENSIVE TRUCK SHOULD NOT HAVE SUCH EARLY AND SEVERE BRAKE LINE FAILURES FROM NORMAL OPERATION. THE LINES MUST NOT BE MADE FROM RUST RESISTANT METAL AND POORLY PROTECTED FROM THE ROAD ELEMENTS. IN A DISCUSSION WITH OTHER CHEVY TRUCK OWNERS FROM THIS AREA, IT SEEMS THERE HAVE BEEN SIMILAR FAILURES. *TR
I HAVE BEEN HAVING SEVERAL BRAKE ISSUES WITH MY TRUCK WITHIN THE LAST YEAR. MY LATEST PROBLEM HAS BEEN THE ABS ENGAGING AT A NEAR STOP AROUND 5 MPH. THIS HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN A SHORT TRIP. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS OVER THE INTERNET IT APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH QUITE A FEW CHEVY TRUCK OWNERS. I WORK FOR A MAJOR AUTO PARTS RETAILER AND HAVE ASKED SEVERAL MECHANICS OF A FIX OR SOLUTION. THERE SEEMS TO BE QUITE A FEW DIAGNOSIS MENTIONED. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO FIX MY TRUCK PROPERLY AND NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT WITH MY WIFE AND KIDS IN THE TRUCK. *TR
BRAKE LINE FAILURE NEAR ABS MODULE INSIDE FRAME RAIL UNDER DRIVERS DOOR; FAILED IN OWNERS DRIVEWAY; USED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP; INSPECTION OF BRAKE LINES INDICATES SEVERE RUSTING OF ALL LINES IN THAT AREA. *TR
HELP PLEASE. ANTI LOCK BRAKES LOCK UP OR GO TO FLOOR AT LOW SPEED. RECALL 05V379000 COVERS VEHICLES WITH THIS DEFECT REGISTERED IN COLD WEATHER STATES EXTENDING TO MARYLAND AND D.C. I LIVE IN VIRGINIA, BUT HAVE DRIVEN IN COVERED AREAS, INCLUDING MARYLAND, PENNSYLVANIA, WEST VIRGINIA AND D.C. MY VEHICLE HAS A SAFETY DEFECT THAT HAS REQUIRED A RECALL. IT SHOULD NOT BE EXCLUDED SIMPLY BECAUSE IT IS REGISTERED ON THE OTHER SIDE OF A STATE LINE. *TR
HIT A SHOPPING CART STAND AT A SHOPPING CENTER BECAUSE AS I WAS TURNING INTO THE PARKING SPOT AND APPLYING THE BRAKES SO CONTROL THE VEHICLE SPEED THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING VIOLENTLY PULSED THE BRAKES AND NOT SLOWING THE VEHICLE DOWN. ALTHOUGH I TIGHTENED THE TURN I STILL MADE CONTACT WITH THE UPPER RAIL CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE PARKING LIGHT BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. HAD THE BRAKES FUNCTIONED PROPERLY THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN DAMAGED. BECAUSE OF THE LOW SPEED, NO OTHER DAMAGE OCCURRED, JUST BROKE THE PLASTIC. *TR
ON 10/29/2011 THE ENGINE WAS BLOWING GRAYISH WHITE SMOKE. THE ENGINE STARTED LOSING OIL PRESSURE. CHECKED THE OIL, FOUND DIESEL IN THE OIL. THE OIL LEVEL WAS 6" HIGHER ON DIPSTICK. IT IS THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM ON THE 2002 DURAMAX DIESEL. THE FUEL INJECTORS HAVE FAILED. I UNDERSTOOD THAT CHEVROLET HAS PUT A RECALL ON ALL 2002 AND EARLY 2003 MODELS. TOOK IT TO DEREK SCOTT AUTO PARK WHICH IS THE CLOSEST CHEVROLET DEALER/SERVICE DEPARTMENT. AFTER RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS THEY TOLD US THAT THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL INJECTORS WOULD BE COVERED 100% BY GM. LATER CALLED BACK AND SAID WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY HALF IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,251.88. THEY WILL NOT ALLOW US TO TALK TO THE GM REP. WE NEED TO KNOW IF THIS IS VALID OR NOT. WE THOUGHT RECALLS WERE PAID FOR BY THE COMPANY I.E. GM IN THIS CASE. WHILE COMING TO A RED LIGHT, I LOST THE ABILITY TO STOP. UPON INSPECTION I OBSERVED SEVERELY CORRODED AND RUSTY BRAKE LINES AND FLUID LEAKING FROM ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES. *TR
I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON MD-235 IN LEXINGTON PARK, MD WHEN THE LIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION OF MD-235 & FDR BLVD. TURNED YELLOW. I HAD LITTLE ROOM TO STOP AND APPLIED THE BRAKES FORCEFULLY, SLOWING TO APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH WHEN THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I RAN THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AS THE LIGHT TURNED RED. NO CARS WERE IN FRONT OF ME; AN ACCIDENT DID NOT OCCUR. I USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP AND OPENED THE HOOD, THINKING I HAD A BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER FAILURE. I NOTED FLUID DRIPPING FROM UNDERNEATH THE CHASSIS BY THE DRIVER'S DOOR, & ON FURTHER INSPECTION, FOUND A RUPTURE IN A CORRODED BRAKE LINE. I DROVE HOME USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE (RURAL AREA; APPROXIMATELY 12 MILES), LIGHTLY PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN STOPPING WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO TURN THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON. ONCE HOME, I FOUND VIRTUALLY EVERY STEEL BRAKE LINE THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE BADLY CORRODED. AN INTERNET SEARCH PROVIDED INFORMATION THAT THIS IS A PREVAILING PROBLEM WITH 1999-2004 CHEVROLET TRUCKS OF ALL MODELS. A PROBLEM THIS PREVALENT WITH THIS HIGH OF A SAFETY CONCERN NEEDS A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL ISSUED FOR THESE VEHICLES. I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE. *TR
REAR BRAKE LINE FAILED DUE TO CORROSION AT BRACKET JUST ABOVE REAR END , AFTER REPLACING THAT LINE A SECOND LINE FAILED 12 INCHES IN FRONT OF ABS CONTROLLER BELOW DRIVER COMPARTMENT, THIS WAS ALSO DUE TO CORROSION. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED THE TRUCK WAS NEARLY UNSTOPPABLE, I HAD TO SWERVE OFF THE ROAD INTO THE DITCH TO AVOID A LEFT TURNING VEHICLE. *TR
MY SILVERADO PICKUP HAS HAD TWO PROBLEMS THAT CAUSED LOW-SPEED INAPPROPRIATE ACTIVATION OF THE ABS, LENGTHENING STOPPING DISTANCES. ONCE, ABOUT FIVE YEARS AGO, AND AGAIN THIS YEAR. ON BOTH OCCASIONS THE FRONT WHEEL BEARING HUBS HAD TO BE REPLACED TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE BEARINGS ARE SEALED AND NOT SERVICEABLE, AND WHEN THEY WEAR THE AIR GAP UNDER THE ANTI-LOCK SENSOR STARTS VARYING, CAUSING ERRONEOUS SIGNALS TO THE ABS. THE FIRST SYMPTOM IS DANGEROUS APPLICATION OF THE ABS AT LOW SPEED. (I NEARLY HIT THE BUILDING I WAS APPROACHING WHILE PARKING.) *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE CONSTANT MALFUNCTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,016. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
A BRAKE LINE RUSTED THROUGH IN THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK. AFTER LOOKING UNDER THE TRUCK, I FOUND THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED AND LOOK AS IF THEY WILL FAIL AT ANY TIME. ALL BRAKE LINES WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED BEFORE THIS VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE AGAIN. AFTER CHECKING ON THE WEB I HAVE FOUND THOUSANDS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS AND STILL THERE IS NO GM RECALL. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH DOWNHILL WHEN FORCE WAS APPLIED REPEATEDLY TO THE BRAKE HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. UPON ENGAGING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETECTED BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS RUST CORROSION WITHIN THE BRAKE LINES. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO NOTIFY THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
AFTER LEAVING MY HOUSE I ATTEMPTED TO STOP AT THE END OF MY STREET ONLY TO FIND THAT MY BRAKES HAD FAILED! I TURNED AROUND AT THE NEXT STREET TO RETURN HOME. I HAD ABOUT 20% BRAKE FUNCTION SO I DROVE AT ABOUT 5 MILES PER HOUR. ON MY RETURN HOME A LITTLE DOG RAN OUT IN FRONT OF MY TRUCK, I WAS UNABLE TO STOP AND CONSEQUENTLY RAN OVER HER. SHE DIED IMMEDIATELY, I FELT HORRIBLE. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS APPLIED BUT TOO LATE! THE TRUCK HAS A STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST SYSTEM BUT RUSTY BRAKE LINES (POOR ENGINEERING OR COST PLANNING?). INCIDENTALLY I WAS ON MY WAY TO I-75 WHERE I WOULD OF BEEN TRAVELING AT 70 MILES PER HOUR. IF THE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED THEN, WHO KNOWS WHAT WOULD OF HAPPENED? I ALSO HAVE A 1997 BLAZER THAT LOST ITS BRAKES DUE TO BRAKE LINE RUST AND FLUID LEAKAGE. THIS HAPPENED AT 55 MILES PER HOUR, BUT I WAS LEFT WITH APPROXIMATELY 50% BRAKING POWER. THE DIFFERENCE IN BRAKING CAPACITY AFTER FAILURE WAS DRAMATIC. ALSO THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED DURING AND AFTER THE EVENT. IT ONLY CAME ON AFTER THE TRUCK WAS STOPPED AND RESTARTED. *TR *KB
THE BRAKE LINES JUST UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR FAILED. THE FAILURE WAS INSTANT WITH NO BRAKES WHAT SO EVER. PER DEALER ALL LINES NEED REPLACED DUE TO RUST. VERY EXPENSIVE. 2002 SILVERADO Z71 STOPPED FOR FUEL, STARTED TRUCK, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO PUT IN GEAR, PEDAL GOES ALMOST TO THE FLOOR, SLOWLY DROVE HOME. I HAD ALL THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED WITH STAINLESS STEEL LINES FROM CLASSIC TUBE, I HOPE YOU MANDATE THAT GM PAY FOR ALL REPAIRS WITH SUBMITTED BILLS AND $ 2000.00 IN COMPENSATION FOR THE AGGRAVATION. *TR
AS MILLIONS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM MY 2002 CHEVY 6.0LTR EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT HEADS ARE SNAPPING OFF AND BURNED THE GASKET OUT WHICH NOW FIRE SHOOTS OUT THE GAP AND THE EXHAUST IS NOW FILLING UP IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND TRAVELING INTO THE CAB. ALSO NOT TO MENTION THE EMISSIONS THAT ARE NOT BEING DISPLACED PROPERLY AND THAT IT IS RUINING MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER. NOT ONLY DOES THIS POSE A HUGE FIRE RISK THE FLAME THAT SHOOTS OUT IS DIRECTED RIGHT AT THE ENGINE COOLANT SENSOR AND IS BURNING IT, SOMEONE SOMEWHERE HAS SWEPT THIS PROBLEM UNDER THE RUG IT'S TIME TO ADDRESS THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. ON 30 DECEMBER 2014 SAID VEHICLE HAD TO HAVE ALL FUEL LINES AND FUEL FILLER TUBE REPLACED DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST/RUSTING OUT AT 90,790 WELL MAINTAINED MILES AT A COST OF $1800.OO PLUS. *JS

COMPLETE LOSS OF FRONT BRAKE SYSTEM WHILE DRIVING. I NOTED A SOFT PEDAL WHILE SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND ON THE NEXT BRAKE APPLY THERE WAS LITTLE OR NO DECELERATION UNTIL THE PEDAL WAS NEAR THE FLOOR. THE REAR WHEELS LOCKED UP MOMENTARILY WHILE SLOWING THE VEHICLE AT THE EXTENT OF PEDAL TRAVEL. AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE, I NOTED A STEADY STREAM OF BRAKE FLUID COMING FROM THE LINE WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED. THE BRAKE LINE RUNNING TO THE ABS UNIT UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HAD A LARGE LEAK IN AN AREA OF HEAVY CORROSION. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I FOUND THAT MOST OF THE BRAKE LINES HAD HEAVY CORROSION ON THE VEHICLE ALTHOUGH NO OTHER LEAKS WERE NOTED. *KB

THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: EA11001 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS) THAT COULD HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000.
STARTED TRUCK, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. BRAKE FLUID UNDER TRUCK. BRAKE LINES ROTTED OUT UNDER DRIVERS DOOR BETWEEN MASTER CYLINDER AND ABS BOX. HAD TO USE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP VEHICLE. LUCKILY MY CHILDREN WERE NOT PLAYING IN THE DRIVEWAY, OR THAT I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY. HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, AND FROM HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON INTERNET THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW, NOT A FLUKE, OR ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE. I HAD INSPECTED AT DEALER A YEAR AGO AND THEY SAID LINES WERE FINE. THIS WAS AFTER SPENDING $2000 TO REPLACE OTHER RUSTED BRAKE COMPONENTS. BRAKES HAD BEEN REPLACED AT 20,000 MILES ALSO. TRUCK HAS BEEN USED ON HIGHWAY MILES MOSTLY, AND HAS NEVER PLOWED, OR TOWED, OR BEEN USED NEAR WATER. *TR
WHILE PULLING OUT OF PARKING LOT OF INSPECTION STATION ON TO SIDE STREET, ON SLIGHT HILL, I DEPRESSED MY BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE TRUCK SLOWLY STOPPED EVEN THOUGH I WAS ONLY DOING APPROXIMATLY 5 MPH. WHEN I GOT OUT AND LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK I SAW BRAKE FLUID COMING FROM UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE TRUCK. THE INSPECTOR HAD TOLD ME THAT THE LINES LOOKED TO BE CORRODED AND I WOULD NEED TO GET THEM REPLACED IN A FEW YEARS. ONCE THE BRAKE FAILURE OCCURED HE CAME AND LOOKED AGAIN AND WAS SHOCKED THAT IT WAS AN INSTANT BRAKING. *TR
