2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO - 2ND BRAKE LINE FAILURE IN PAST 6 MONTHS. AVOIDED ACCIDENT BY PULLING INTO PARKING LOT. ALL BRAKE LINES EXTREMELY CORRODED. YOU CURRENTLY HAVE AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS PROBLEM - HERE IS ANOTHER CASE. ALL BRAKE LINES NEED TO BE REPLACED. ACCORDING TO DEALER, THEY HAVE NO SERVICE BULLETINS ON THIS, AND IT WILL COST "THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS". THIS IS A PICKUP WITH 40K MILES ON IT. MY WIFE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED BY THE TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKES SHE EXPERIENCED. THIS PROBLEM WARRANTS AN IMMEDIATE RECALL! *TR
RED BRAKE DASH LIGHT TURNED ON. INSPECTED VEHICLE AND FOUND BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH AND LEAKING FLUID. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET C3500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATLEY 25 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOORBOARD WITHOUT THE VEHICLE STOPPING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT A CRASH. THE CONTACT CHECKED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS DEPLETED AND HE COULD SEE BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY A RUPTURE OF ONE OF THE MASTER CYLINDER BRAKE LINES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,500.
BRAKE LINE FAILURE ON 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATES. THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE NOT TO STOP WHEN BRAKING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ISSUE IS WITH THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES AND ONLY HAPPENS IN THE NORTH EAST OR SALT BELT STATES. THE DEALER STATED THE FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT HAD THE FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR REPLACED UNDER A RECALL THREE YEARS AGO. THE CONTACT STATED THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD CAUSE A CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,538. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE PROBLEM WAS NOT PERFORMED CORRECTLY, THE FIRST TIME. UPPER STEERING COLUMN INTERMEDIATE SHAFT CLUNKING NOISE WHEN TURNING OR ON BUMPY ROAD, HAVE TO REPLACE THIS PART AT MY COST. GM KNOWS ABOUT THIS COMMON DEFECT BUT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS PART EVEN THOUGH THEY MANUFACTURED 2 REPLACEMENT SHAFTS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I DON'T KNOW WHY THERE IS NO RECALL. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE LB7 INJECTORS CAUSING A FIRE WHEN THEY LEAK. VEHICLE 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HD2500 DURAMAX DIESEL. ALSO CAUSING ANOTHER DRIVER TO CRASH FROM THE PUDDLE OF DIESEL LEFT BEHIND WHEN I HAVE INJECTOR FAILURE AS HAS HAPPENED AND WILL AGAIN SINCE GM HAS NO SUITABLE REPLACEMENT OTHER THAN THE DEFECTIVE PART. WITHOUT WARNING MY 2002 CHEVY 2500HD LOST IT'S BRAKES ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED UNDER THE LEFT WHEEL WELL. I CALLED CHEVY AND THEY STATED THAT IT WAS NOT A KNOWN ISSUE. THEY REFUSED TO HELP OR DISCUSS THE ISSUE WITH ME. I ASKED TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR AND THE TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE I COULD SPEAK TO. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE I FOUND THAT IT HAS BEEN WIDELY REPORTED. *TR
FAILED BRAKE LINE MAJOR RUST CHEVY 2002 SILVERADO 2500HD MECHANIC SAYS TO REPLACE ALL LINES DUE TO FAULTY LINES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVARADO. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A RUST COVERED HOLE UNDERNEATH THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR. NONE OF THE OTHER DOORS HAD ANY RUST UNDERNEATH THEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000. UPDATED 5/2/11 *CN UPDATED 05/16/11
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 50 MPH WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT INTO THE FLOORBOARD. THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED FOR THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR ROTORS WERE ENTIRELY RUSTED THREE YEARS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000. UPDATED 3/8/11 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED HE NOTICED BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM TWO OF THE STEEL BRAKE LINES AND THEY WERE COMPLETELY CORRODED. THE FRONT BRAKE LINE RUPTURED WHICH WAS LOCATED BELOW THE DRIVERS SEAT ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE FRAME RAIL AND THE REAR BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED AS WELL, WHICH WAS LOCATED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL WELL. ALL SEVEN BRAKE LINES ALONG THE FUEL LINES SHOWED SOME DEGREE OF CORROSION AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
BRAKE LINE FOLLOWING FRAME ALONG DRIVER'S SIDE RUPTURED CAUSING HISSING AND LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID AROUND THE REAR WHEEL WELL. BRAKE LINE CORRODED. PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO BRAKING TO STOP THE VEHICLE. SLOWED WITH LOSS OF MOMENTUM AND PUMPING THE BRAKE PEDAL. *TR
ON SEPTEMBER 27, 2010 WHILE DRIVING A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 PICKUP MY HUSBAND RAN OFF THE ROAD AND HIS TRUCK CRASHED IN A RAVINE. HIS AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY CAUSING HIM A SEVERE BRAIN INJURY KNOWN AS A DAI. HE SPENT 84 DAYS IN THE HOSPITAL AND HAD TO LEARN TO DO EVERYTHING AGAIN. HE MAY NEVER FULLY RECOVER FROM THIS ACCIDENT COMPLETELY. HAD HIS AIRBAG DEPLOYED I BELIEVE HIS INJURY WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN NEARLY AS SERIOUS. HE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE. I HAVE A 02'CHEVY IMPALA WHEN I TURN IT ON ALL ELECTRIC COMES ON AND THE ENGINE RUNS FOR A SPLIT SECOND AND DIES THEN THE BATTERY LIGHT AND SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM COMES ON I GOT THE FUEL PUMP AND SENSOR REPLACED STILL THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURS. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT FOR A FEW MILES AFTER READING THE MANUAL AND PUSHING THE GAS TO THE FLOOR WHILE HOLDING THE KEYS ON FOR THREE SECONDS BUT EVENTUALLY IT DIED AGAIN. PLEASE HELP!!!!! *TR
I HAVE A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO,THAT'S IS EXPERIENCING BRAKING FAILURES AT LOW SPEED , LIKE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A INTERSECTION. I OWN A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD 4X4. IN THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS MY ABS HAS BEEN ACTIVATING AT LOW SPEEDS FOR NO REASON (CONDITIONS DRY WITH NO WATER AND ICE). IT CAUSES ME TO SLOW EARLIER THAN NORMAL TO PREVENT STOPPING TOO LATE. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS AND IT APPEARS THAT IT MAY BE COVERED BY A RECALL (PE05020). I LIVE IN MARYLAND AND AM NOT YET SURE IF MY STATE IS COVERED. I BOUGHT MY VEHICLE SECOND HAND FROM A CHEVY DEALER 6/29/04 AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE (I HAVE RECEIVED OTHERS IN THE PAST). FILING THIS AND CONTACTING MY DEALER IN CASE NHTSA THINKS MD SHOULD NOT BE COVERED. THE FAILURE OCCURS DAILY AND CAUSES LONGER STOPPING DISTANCE. *TR
I RECEIVED A RECALL IN 2005 FOR THE SPEED SENSOR AT WHICH TIME I HAD IT FIXED. AROUND 2008 IT STARTED TO HAPPEN AGAIN AND THE DEALERSHIP ON GOOD FAITH FIXED IT FOR NOTHING. 2009 IT STARTED AGAIN AND WE HAD TO PAY AROUND 500 TO FIX IT. NOW IT IS 2011 AND THE PROBLEM IS STARTING AGAIN. DURING THIS TIME WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS COMING TO A COMPLETE HALT AND ALMOST CRASHING INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. I DON'T MAKE A LOT OF MONEY AND NEED THIS VEHICLE TO GET TO AND FROM WORK. I DO NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE OFF ROAD OR LONG DISTANCE JUST AROUND TOWN. FOR HOW OLD IT IS I HAVE LOW MILEAGE AND I FEEL IFSOMETHING IS RECALLED IT SHOULD BE FIXED THE FIRST TIME. *TR
THE BRAKE LINES WERE HEAVILY CORRODED AND STARTING TO LEAK FLUID. THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER BACK TO ALL FOUR WHEELS. THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY DEALER INSPECTION. THIS PREMATURE CORROSION IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. THIS IS A PERSONAL USE 2002 PICK UP TRUCK WITH ONLY 66,300 MILES. *TR
BLOWER MOTOR STOPPED WORKING LAST YEAR. I HAD A NEW BLOWER MOTOR INSTALLED AND THE REPLACEMENT STOPPED WORKING. WHEN I BROUGHT MY TRUCK TO BE REPAIRED FOR THE SECOND TIME, I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE WIRING/RESISTOR WHICH SUPPLIES POWER TO THE BLOWER MOTOR. APPARENTLY, THE MOTOR PULLS MORE POWER THAN THE WIRING IS RATED FOR WHICH CAUSES IT TO HEAT UP AND BURN THE INSULATION OFF OF THE WIRING UNDER THE DASHBOARD. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY THAT MY TRUCK DID NOT CATCH FIRE LIKE ANOTHER CUSTOMER'S TRUCK HE HAD RECENTLY REPAIRED FOR THE SAME REASON AS MINE HAD. I FEEL THAT I HAVE PAID FOR REPAIRS TWICE DUE TO DEFECTIVE GM PARTS. *TR
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2002 CHEVY 2500HD PICKUP WITH 65,000 MILES. I EXPERIENCED A TOTAL FAILURE OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM ON 28 AUG 2010 DUE TO A RUPTURED BRAKE LINE. THE LEAKING LINE WAS IN THE VICINITY OF THE DRIVER'S DOOR AND ALL LINES WERE HEAVILY CORRODED. LEAK WAS LARGE ENOUGH TO FULLY DRAIN THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR. FAILURE HAPPENED WHILE PARKING TRUCK AT HOME. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED, BUT I WAS LUCKY. THIS FAILURE COULD HAVE CAUSED A FATAL ACCIDENT. REPAIR OF THIS DEFECT WILL REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OF ALL BRAKE LINES ON THE TRUCK. IN MY OPINION, THE ROOT CAUSE OF THIS BRAKE FAILURE IS A POOR CHOICE OF MATERIALS (PLAIN STEEL) FOR THE BRAKE LINES. CHEVY SHOULD HAVE USED A CORROSION RESISTANT MATERIAL. *TR

CHEVY 2002 SILVERADO, WITH 8.1L ENGINE, STALLS WITHOUT WARNING RANDOMLY. FOUND PROBLEM CODE P0335 LOGGED ON DIAGNOSTIC ANALYZER (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT A). CONTACTED DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR MODEL YEAR 2001, BUT NOT 2002. SCHEDULED FOR REPAIR THIS WEEK. *TR
COMPLETE CORROSION OF BRAKE LINE AND FAILURE OF BRAKES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 25 MPH AND APPROACHING A STOP. THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME EXTREMELY STIFF AND RESISTANT TO THE CONTACT'S ATTEMPTS TO BRAKE. THE FAILURE WOULD CAUSE AN INCREASE IN BRAKING DISTANCE AND TIME THAT IT TOOK TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE ABS WARNING LIGHT WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD INTERMITTENTLY VIBRATE AND THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO REPEATEDLY PUMP THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO STOP THE FAILURE. THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR FACILITY YET THE ABS WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN THREE DAYS OF THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHICH WAS SEVERAL MILES FROM HIS RESIDENCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED THREE TIMES AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
SUDDEN TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE (ALL 4 WHEELS) DUE TO RUSTED UNDER BODY BRAKE LINES. SERVICE CENTER IS REPLACING ALL OLD LINES FROM MASTER CYLINDER TO ABS MODULE AND ONTO WHEEL CYLINDERS. SAMPLES OF OLD RUSTED LINES ARE BEING RETAINED. *TR

WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL FELL MUCH FARTHER INTO THE FLOORBOARD THAN USUAL AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DECREASE IN SPEED. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED NUMEROUS TIMES BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESUME WITH CAUTION. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED UPON ARRIVAL AT THE RESIDENCE TO FIND THE BRAKE FLUID LEAKING ONTO THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC PRIOR TO THE FAILURE FOR AN UNRELATED REPAIR WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DETECTED THE BRAKE LINE EXHIBITED SEVERE RUST CORROSION AND STATED THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. ALSO PREVIOUSLY, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A SECOND OPINION AND THEY INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE LINE. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING ON A RESPONSE FROM THE DEALER REGARDING THE RECENT FAILURE AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 24,500.
BRAKE LINES TO REAR WHEELS FAILED WITH MILD BREAK APPLICATION . THIS WAS DUE TO RUSTY BREAK LINES . THERE WERE NO BRAKES AT THE APPLICATION OF THE PEDAL . THIS IS NOT A ISOLATED CASE , DEALERS HAVE SEEN MANY CASES OF THIS PROBLEM. TODAY AS I HAD MY TRUCK AT THE DEALER ANOTHER CHEVY TRUCK CAME IN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM . *TR

WE OWN A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD. WE PURCHASED COOPER DISCOVERER ATR, SIZE LT265/75R16. WHICH HAS A 50,000 MILE WARRANTY. WITH 34,573 MILES ON THE TIRES THE TREAD STARTED CHUNKING OUT OF THE PASSENGER FRONT TIRE. WE HEARD SOMETHING HITTING THE TRUCK, STOPPED AND REALIZED THE PROBLEM. THE NEW TIRE WAS PRORATED AND WE PURCHASED A REPLACEMENT. AND JUST 5219 MILES LATER THE PASSENGER REAR TIRE TREAD COMPLETELY SHREDDED OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE. NO WARNING AT ALL. CAUSING ALOT OF DAMAGE TO TRUCK. THE TIRE STILL FULL OF AIR. CLEARLY DEFECTIVE!!!! *TR
2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. CONSUMER WRITES REGARDING PROBLEM WITH TIRES *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED SHE PURCHASED FOUR COOPER TIRES ON JULY 6, 2006. WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD 60,893 MILES ON IT. 34,573 MILES LATER, THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE TREAD STARTED COMING OUT IN CHUNKS. THE CONSUMER ONLY DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM AFTER HEARING A NOISE AGAINST THE TRUCK. THE SECOND FAILURE WAS ON AUGUST 8, 2010 WHEN THE PASSENGER REAR TIRE TREAD COMPLETELY SHREDDED OFF AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK. THE CONSUMER STATED THE TIRES WERE DEFECTIVE AND IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT. *JB

THE CAR WAS OPERATING NORMALLY AS I WAS LEAVING THE PARKING LOT AFTER SHOPPING. THE ENGINE WAS AT NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE. THE ENGINE STALLED, LOST POWER BRAKES AND STEERING. THIS OCCURRED FIVE TIMES IN A PERIOD OF APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK. THE ENGINE WOULD RESTART AFTER ONE MINUTE OR MORE. THERE WERE NO SES OR MIL INDICATIONS OR DTC CODES. I GOOGLED THE FAILURE AND FOUND SEVERAL PEOPLE WITH SAME PROBLEM. I ALSO FOUND A NHTSA RECALL 06083 FOR A 2001 YEAR MY VEHICLE IS A 2002. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER AND HAD THE CRANKCASE POSITION SENSOR REPLACED AND THAT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. TO ELABORATE ON THE PROBLEM IT DID OCCUR WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MILES PER HOUR. THAT IS VERY SCARY AND AS THIS IS A TRUCK I COULD HAVE BEEN TOWING MY BOAT. I DO HAVE THE DEFECTIVE PART. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT ALL THE DEFECTIVE PARTS WERE NOT REMOVED FROM INVENTORY OR THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM WAS INADEQUATE. *TR
WHILE RETURNING FROM VACATION MY CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 PICKUP TRUCK PICKED UP A VIBRATION. UPON CHECKING, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE TIRE HAD BELT SEPARATION. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, HE ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF HIM. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND MINIMAL DAMAGE TO THE OTHER VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 61,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 62,000.

I WANT TO ADD ANOTHER CASE TO YOUR INVESTIGATION OF BRAKE LINE FAILURES ON GM TRUCKS. I LIVE IN MARYLAND AND HAVE A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD WITH ONLY 40,000 MILES ON IT. MY BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH IN THREE SEPARATE INCIDENTS THIS YEAR. FIRST, THE FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSORS/ABS SYSTEM FAILED IN APRIL, 2010. NEXT, IN JULY, THE FRONT PART OF THE LINES GAVE WAY WHEN BEING BACKED OUT OF THE GARAGE AFTER GETTING AN OIL CHANGE. THAT GARAGE REPLACED THE FRONT PART OF THE BRAKE LINES ONLY. FINALLY IN SEPTEMBER, THE REAR BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH RIGHT IN MY DRIVEWAY. LUCKILY, I WAS NOT TRAVELING AT SPEED FOR EITHER OF THESE EVENTS, BUT IT WAS A MAJOR EXPENSE AND INCONVENIENCE, ESPECIALLY HAVING IT HAPPEN TWICE LIKE THAT. I ALSO HAD THE LINE ON THE POWER STEERING FLUID COOLER RUST THROUGH IN THE APRIL REPAIR, AND THERE IS WAY MORE RUST IN GENERAL ON THE UNDERCARRIAGE THAN THERE SHOULD BE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED WHICH EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ANY RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AND IN ORDER TO STOP THE TRAILER BRAKES WERE ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE ABS MODULE'S MAIN BRAKE LINE WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR THE SECOND TIME; HOWEVER THE MAIN BRAKE LINE CONNECTED TO THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,662.
I HAVE A 2002 CHEVROLET 2500HD PICKUP WITH THE DURAMAX DIESEL ENGINE WITH JUST OVER 100,000 MILES ON IT. RECENTLY, WHILE SITTING AT A STOP SIGN, DARIK SMOKE WOULD COME FROM THE EXHAUST. IT NEVER DID THIS BEFORE SO I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALER TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE INJECTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF ABOUT $4500. I CONTACTED GMC, THEY SET UP A CASE FILE AND GOT BACK TO ME IN ABOUT A WEEK TO TELL ME THAT I WAS BEYOND THE 7 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY AND SO THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR. THE FACT THAT IT ONLY HAD ABOUT 1/2 OF THE 200,000 MILES COVERED IN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DIDN'T SEEM TO COUNT FOR ANYTHING. ONE OF THE SELLING POINTS WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WAS THAT IT SHOULD LAST FOR 200K TO 300K MILES WITHOUT NEEDING REPAIR. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN USED PRIMARILY FOR PERSONAL TRANSPORTATION, NOT ABUSED, WITH ONLY OCCASIONAL TOWING OF A RELATIVELY LIGHT TRAILER. *TR

INSPECTION REVEALED THE BRAKE LINE FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE PROPORTIONING VALVE UNDER THE CAB OF THE TRUCK HAD BURST DUE TO A VERY RUSTY BRAKE LINE. REAR BRAKE PAD INABILITY TO "FLOAT" DUE TO EXTENSIVE CORROSION CAUSED PREMATURE REAR PAD AND REAR ROTOR FAILURE. BRAKE LINES ARE ALSO OBSERVED TO BE CORRODING IN AN EXCESSIVE, PREMATURE MANNER AS ARE VEHICLE FRAME AND TRAILER HITCH STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS. INTERNAL COMPONENTS WEAR A SMALL HOLE IN THE REAR OF THE CASE HOUSING ALLOWING THE FLUID TO LEAK OUT WITHOUT YOU KNOWING IT. ONCE THE FLUID IS GONE THE GEARS GRIND DOWN TO THE POINT WHERE THE TRANSMISSION LOCKS UP AND YOU SKID TO A STOP. I'VE BEEN TOLD THIS IS STILL AN ON GOING PROBLEM ALL THE WAY UP TO THE 2010 MODEL YEAR. *KB
I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING BUT COULD NOT FIND ANY FIRE. LATER I NOTICED THE 5 SP AC FAN SWITCH ON MY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO WAS ONLY WORKING FOR SPEEDS 3-5. WHEN I WENT TO THE CHEVY DEALER THEY SAID THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THE WIRING AND BLOWER RESISTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
HAVE A 2002 SILVERADO WITH 46,000 MILES AND IN JUNE 2010 EXPERIENCED A MAJOR BRAKE FAILURE WHEN THE BRAKE LINES NEAR THE FRAME RAIL BRAKE/ABS CONTROLLER RUSTED AWAY. WHEN TRYING TO STOP THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR, WAS NEAR HOME AND DROVE THE REST OF THE WAY. THE NEXT DAY THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT WAS ON, THE FLUID HAD LEAKED OUT AND I DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM - THE RUSTED LINES. A $1000.00 OF BRAKE WORK TO CORRECT THE BRAKE LINES, THAT IS REPLACE THEM AND NEW FRONT BRAKES BECAUSE THE CALIPERS HAD ALSO RUSTED SO BADLY THEY COULDN'T BLEED THE BRAKES. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR A MODERN VEHICLE TO HAVE SAFETY PARTS RUST SO BADLY AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z71. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 15 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE BACK FIRED AND STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN ABNORMAL KNOCKING WAS HEARD DURING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THERE WAS CARBON BUILD-UP AROUND THE PISTONS AND ADVISED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
