WHILE DRIVING, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTS ABRUPTLY CAUSING THE TRUCK TO JUMP FORWARD. THE TRANSMISSION WILL CONTINUE TO SHIFT HARD THROUGH ALL GEARS UNTIL TRUCK HAS BEEN STOPPED AND SHUT OFF FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT OCCURRENCE. IT HAS HAPPENED APPROX. 5 TIMES FROM 24000 MILES TIL NOW AT 31000 MILES OVER A PERIOD OF 6 MONTHS. DEALER CHECKED TRANSMISSION AND STATES THAT FLUID IS BURNT, SLIPS IN SECOND GEAR AND RECOMMENDS A NEW TRANSMISSION INSTEAD OF REPAIR. THERE ARE SEVERAL FACTORS THAT NEED TO BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION. THE FIRST BEING THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE WHICH IS 9Y/O. SECOND IS THE MILEAGE WHICH IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR WAS 17000 MILES. THIRD FACTOR WOULD BE THE CONDITION OF THIS VEHICLE, DRIVEN BY AN ELDERLY MAN, ALWAYS GARAGED, KEPT IN TEXAS AND NEVER TOWED ANYTHING. THIS VEHICLES CONDITION FOR IT'S AGE IS "LIKE NEW" WITH ALL MAINTENANCE BEING DONE BY THE DEALER FROM WHICH IT WAS PURCHASED. THE LOCAL DEALER WHICH DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM WILL VOUCH FOR THE CONDITION OF THE TRUCK. THIS WAS REPORTED TO GM CUSTOMER SERVICE ON FRI. NOV. 11, 2011. I AM WAITING FOR A SATISFACTORY OUTCOME TO THIS BAD TRANSMISSION. GM HAS YET TO COMMIT TO HELPING COVER THE COST OF ANY REPAIRS. THEY WANT ME TO PAY THE $1100 TO TEAR THE TRANSMISSION DOWN TO FIND THE PROBLEM BEFORE THEY WILL DECIDE ANYTHING. I BELIEVE THIS IS NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY SINCE THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY "RECOMMEND THE TRANSMISSION BE REPLACED". *TR
HAVE OWNED MY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO SINCE NEW. I HAVE NEVER GOTTEN A FLAT TIRE WITH THIS TRUCK UNTIL A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. I GOT A FLAT TIRE ON MEMORIAL DAY ON A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY (RT-1). I WAS IN AN ODD SPOT TO MOVE FARTHER FROM THE TRAFFIC LANE AND I COULD NOT GET THE TRUCK HIGH ENOUGH WITH THE FACTORY JACK THAT WAS PROVIDED. I FIGURED IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE UNEVEN GROUND I WAS ON. ABOUT A WEEK LATER I HAD A BLOW OUT WITH THE SAME TIRE IN A PARKING GARAGE (NICE LEVEL FLAT CONCRETE SURFACE). I HAVE BEEN A MECHANIC IN ABOUT 1975. HOLD MY PA STATE INSPECTION LICENSE AND WAS A ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC. THE SUPPLIED JACK WITH THE SAME FACTORY SIZE TIRES WILL NOT GET THE VEHICLE HIGH ENOUGH TO CHANGE THE TIRES. I TRIED THE FACTORY RECOMMENDED SPOTS AND COUPLE OF OTHERS. HOW COULD GM PUT PEOPLE IN A POSITION LIKE THIS? SOMEBODY COULD GET KILLED TRYING TO USE THIS EQUIPMENT. *TR
UPON STARTING MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH DURAMAX ENGINE TO MOVE IT BACKWARDS 40 FEET TO HOOKUP A TRAILER, I HAD NO APPARENT POWER ASSIST ON BRAKES OR STEERING. A SECOND ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND BACK UP RESULTED IN THE SAME RESULT, NO POWER ASSIST ON STEERING OR BRAKES. A THIRD ATTEMPT TO MOVE THE TRUCK PROVED SUCCESSFUL. THIS IS FIRST TIME THIS CONDITION HAS APPEARED ON THIS VEHICLE. *TR
THIS IS A GENERAL POINT OF INFORMATION MESSAGE: FOR THE LAST DECADE OR MORE, GM VEHICLES HAVE A PROPENSITY TO BURN OUT THEIR LAMPS DUE TO AN OVERCHARGE CONDITION (CAUSE UNKNOWN TO ME); THIS CONDITION CAN AFFECT ANY OF THE LAMPS OR BULBS, MOST NOTICABLY HEADLAMPS, TAIL LIGHTS, AND RUNNING (PARKING) LAMPS. COULD YOU PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ELECTRICAL DEFECT IN ALL GM VEHICLES.*TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT RECEIVED REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK) IN DECEMBER 2005. MOST RECENTLY, WHILE BRAKING FROM RELATIVELY LOW SPEEDS OF 5 MPH, THE ABS BEGAN ABNORMALLY VIBRATING AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND PROCEEDED TO CRASH INTO THE REAR OF A PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL AND ADVISED THE MANUFACTURER WAS ONLY LIABLE FOR ONE FREE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,800 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,914.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 3-4 MPH COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. WHEN ENGAGING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ANTI-BRAKE SYSTEM APPEARED TO BE IN ACTIVATION BECAUSE OF THE PULSATION; HOWEVER THE BRAKES WOULD NOT RESPOND CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL SEVEN FEET AND CRASHING INTO THE PROCEEDING VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO INJURY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED DAMAGES TO THE FRONT BUMPER AND BUMPER COVERING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. THE TECHNICIAN CLEANED THE FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED IN 2005, UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTI-LOCK). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,500.
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES SUDDENLY TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE, BRAKE LINE RUPTURED CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKES. WAS ABLE TO APPLY EMERGENCY BRAKE BEFORE RUNNING OFF ROAD. TOOK TRUCK TO MEINEKE DEALER AND HAD RUPTURED BRAKE LINE REPLACED AND ALL OTHERS INSPECTED. MECHANIC REPORTED RUPTURED BRAKE LINE WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. *TR
BRAKE LINE FAILURE DUE TO CORROSION WHILE DRIVING MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HD2500 PICKUP. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND COULD NOT STOP, COULD ONLY STOP BY USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. SCARY. THE LINE FAILED THAT FOLLOWS THE FRAME JUST IN FRONT OF THE DRIVERS DOOR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. WHILE BRAKING FROM THE SPEEDS OF 8 MPH, THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES ENGAGED AND CAUSED AN UNUSUAL INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE AND TIME. THE CONTACT LOCATED A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE DEALER ADVISED THE RECALL WAS LIMITED TO SPECIFIC STATES ONLY. THE CONTACTS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED WHICH DETERMINED THE FAILURE TO BE CAUSED BY THE RIGHT ABS SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS AGO SHE BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LATCH WILL NOT STAY LATCHED. THE DOOR FLEW OPEN WHILE SHE WAS GOING AROUND A CORNER AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. SHE ALSO SAID THAT THE DOOR HANDLE DOES NOT GO IN AFTER SHE PULLS IT OUT TO OPEN THE DOOR AND AS A RESULT YOU CAN NOT GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE IF YOU ARE INSIDE. THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 50,000. UPDATED 01/03/11
POSITIVE SIDE POST ON AC DELCO BATTERY CORRODED OFF AND LEAKED SULFURIC ACID ALL OVER TRUCK. *TR
DURING BRAKING MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD'S ABS IS ACTIVATED WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ALMOST STOPPED. IT HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY BUT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. THE FAILURE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. I CONFIRMED WITH CHEVY THAT THERE IS NO OPEN RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE BUT THERE SHOULD BE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE, THE ABS LIGHT WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE AND THE ABS WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 82,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN PULLING FROM THE DRIVEWAY AND ATTEMPTING TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED MOVING AND CRASHED INTO A FENCE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. NO POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE SUFFERED DAMAGES TO THE FRONT END AND BUMPER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED AT THAT TIME. WHEN LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP, THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE WHEEL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED AT THAT TIME. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED HAVING PROBLEMS AND WOULD NOT STOP WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE MECHANIC WAS WORKING ON THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT BUT STILL COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 43,000.
CHEVY SILVERADO 2002. AT LOW SPEEDS STOPPING DISTANCE IS UNEXPECTEDLY INCREASED DUE TO THE ABS PREVENTING A TOTAL STOP DURING DRY CONDITIONS. THIS OCCURRED COMING TO A STOP AT A STOP LIGHT AND COMING INTO A PARKING SPOT. THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AT LEAST 7 TIMES IN THE WEEKS FOLLOWING THIS FIRST INCIDENT. THE BRAKES ALSO MAKE A GRINDING NOISE AT THE LAST POINT OF BREAKING. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND DESCRIBED THE ABOVE. THEY INFORMED ME THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE ABS UNLESS THE LIGHT IS ON. THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO KEEP THE TRUCK AND DRIVE IT UNTIL IT EXHIBITED THE PROBLEM. I CALLED THE GM RECALL HOT LINE ON MAY 12, 2010. BASED ON MY VIN HE SAID MY TRUCK WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BUT THAT HIS NOTES SHOWED THAT THE WHEEL SENSOR HAD BEEN INSPECTED AND CLEANED WHEN I HAD THE BRAKES DONE IN 2007. HE OFFERED NO HELP AT ALL. THIS PROBLEM IS SERIOUS AND I WILL BE PULLING THE ABS FUSE TO HOPEFULLY DISABLE THE SYSTEM AND AVOID AN ACCIDENT. IT IS CLEAR FROM THE MANY COMPLAINTS HERE AND ELSEWHERE ALL OVER THE INTERNET THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO A FAILURE THAT GM SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR. *TR
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP FOR A RED LIGHT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I WENT THROUGH THE LIGHT. AFTER GETTING THE TRUCK STOPPED WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, I FOUND BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM UNDER THE TRUCK FROM CORRODED BRAKE LINES. I MADE TEMPORARY REPAIRS TO THE LEAKING LINES AND RETURNED TO MY HOME. I CHECKED ONLINE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. I ALSO FOUND FROM FORUMS GM KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM AND SIMPLY SAYS TO LIVE WITH IT. SO FAR I HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM AS GM DOESN'T OFFER ANY REPLACEMENT PARTS. *TR
RUPTURE OF HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES INCLUDING ANTI LOCK PORTION, TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKING. *TR
I WAS USING MY CHEVY SILVERADO TO TOW MY HORSE TRAILER (HORSE ON BOARD) TO A WEEKEND EVENT. BY THE TIME I ARRIVED AT THE CAMP GROUND I REALIZED THAT MY TRUCK'S BRAKES WERE NOT AS FIRM AS THEY SHOULD BE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS GETTING LOWER AND LOWER. I LEFT MY TRAILER AT THE CAMP AND DROVE MY TRUCK TO A NEARBY GARAGE. A MECHANIC LOCATED A LEAKING BRAKE LINE DIRECTLY BENEATH THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR AND NOTED THAT ALL THE VISIBLE BRAKE LINES LOOKED CORRODED. I TOPPED OFF THE BRAKE FLUID AT THE GARAGE AND AFTER MY CAMPING WEEKEND I WAS ABLE TO CAREFULLY DRIVE THE TRUCK AND TRAILER HOME BUT I HAD TO USE THE TRAILER'S BRAKE CONTROLLER TO INCREASE THE TRAILER BRAKING TO ASSIST THE TRUCK BRAKING. DURING THE FOLLOWING WEEK THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO A GM DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID A SO CALLED REPAIR BY SPLICING NEW PIECES OF ALUMINUM BRAKE LINE INTO THE CORRODED ORIGINAL LINES. *TR
AFTER DRIVING 400 MILES TO LAUREL SPRINGS ,NC FROM BALTIMORE ,MD THROUGH MOUNTAIN ROADS AND ARRIVING AT OUR DESTINATION MY WIFE PARKED OUR TRUCK , WE GOT OUT TO GO IN AND OPEN UP THE HOUSE. I THEN WENT BACK TO THE TRUCK AND GOT IN TO MOVE IT CLOSER TO THE HOUSE TO UNPACK OUR BELONGINGS FOR A WEEKS VACATION. I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND PLACED IT IN DRIVE ONLY TO HAVE THE BRAKES GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR . I THEN TOOK A FLASHLIGHT AND HAD MY SON PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL AND BRAKE FLUID WAS GUSHING FROM THE BRAKELINE. I TOOK A FILE AND SCRAPED WHAT LOOKS LIKE LITTLE BALLS OF RUST AND BEHIND THE TEN OR SO BALLS FOUND A HOLE THE SIZE OF BALL POINT PEN TIP.I THEN SPENT TWO DAYS REPLACING THE BRAKE LINE FORM PARTS AT THE NOT SO CLOSE AUTO ZONE. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT 8 YEAR OLD BRAKE LINES WOULD RUST THAT BADLY , I'VE HAD 20 YEAR OLD VEHICLE S THAT DIDN'T HAVE BRAKE LINES RUST OUT. I'M JUST LUCKY THAT THE LINE BROKE AFTER GETTING TO MY DESTINATION AND NOT ON THE MOUNTAIN ROADS WE WERE TRAVELING. I HAVE THE OLD BRAKE LINE BUT LEFT IT AT THE HOUSE IN NC. *TR
MARCH 27, 2010 REAR DRIVER SIDE BRAKE LINE BURST ON 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO WHILE ON HIGHWAY. WHEN BROUGHT IN FOR REPAIR 2 NEW CALIPERS WERE NEEDED DUE TO EXTENSIVE CORROSION. REPAIRS CAME TO $617. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE BRAKING FROM SPEEDS OF 5 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL FELL TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, FOUND BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE BRAKE LINE HAD CORRODED CAUSING THE LEAKAGE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ROTORS, BRAKES, AND THE CALIBER AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,980 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,000. UPDATED 05/18/10. *LJ
MY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO WITH DURAMAX DIESEL ENGINE BROKE DOWN WHILE ON A TRIP FROM MICHIGAN TO FLORIDA. THE DIESEL INJECTOR CASING FAILED CAUSING THE CRANKCASE TO OVERFILL WITH DIESEL FUEL THEN CAUSED OIL AND DIESEL FUEL MIX TO COME OUT OF THE ENGINE WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD COVERING THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ROADWAY AS WELL AS VEHICLES DIRECTLY BEHIND ME. THE GM DEALER IN GEORGIA STATED WE WERE IN BY MILEAGE BUT OUT OF THE EXTENDED 7 YEAR 200000 MILE INJECTOR WARRANTY BY 1YEAR AND 4 DAYS AND THE COST WOULD BE $6250 TO REPLACE 8 INJECTORS. THEY OFFERED A 10% DISCOUNT OFF THAT REPAIR. SUBSEQUENT CALLS TO GM CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE WERE MADE TO NO END (THEY STATED THE 10% DISCOUNT WAS THEIR BEST OFFER). I PLEADED THAT THE TIME LIMIT SHOULD NOT BE A FACTOR AS THIS SHOULD NOT AFFECT WEAR (INJECTORS DO NOT FAIL WHEN THEY ARE NOT OPERATING) MY VEHICLE HAS 120000 MILES ON IT (WELL UNDER 200000 WARRANTY AS STATED BY THE CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE REP). I PAID EXTRA FOR THE DIESEL FOR LONGEVITY AND FUEL ECONOMY AS I AM ON A FIXED INCOME BUT WOUND UP BEING TREATED UNFAIRLY ESPECIALLY FOR A KNOWN PROBLEM AND THE FACT THAT OIL/FUEL BLOWING OUT ON THE HIGHWAY AND VEHICLES IS A SAFETY AND EMISSIONS DEFECT. I WOULD LIKE SOMEONE FROM THE NHTSA TO CONSIDER INVESTIGATING THIS ASPECT (TIME LIMIT) AND SAFETY OF DRIVERS AND FIGHTING FOR ME TO GET ASSISTANCE. THANKS FOR LISTENING
AS MY WIFE PULLED INTO HER PARKING SPACE AT WORK, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP, GOT OUT AND BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM UNDER THE TRUCK AROUND THE DRIVER DOOR AREA. SINCE SHE WORKS AT A GMC TRUCK DEALERSHIP SHE HAD ONE OF THE TECHS LOOK AT IT AND FOUND A HOLE IN ONE BRAKE LINE AND OTHERS CORRODED. THEY REPLACED 4 BRAKE LINES AND ONE REAR BRAKE LINE DUE TO CORROSION. THE TRUCK IS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. *TR
THE BRAKE LINES ON MY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD CORRODED AND RUPTURED LEAVING ME WITH NO BRAKES! I WAS ON A CAMPING TRIP IN TENNESSEE AND LUCKILY CAUGHT IT AT THE CAMPGROUNDS. THIS CONDITION COULD HAVE ENDED IN TRAGEDY! I PULL A 33 FOOT FIFTH WHEEL CAMPER AND THE VEHICLE BRAKES ARE A MUST ESPECIALLY GOING DOWN MOUNTAINS! I HAD THE DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE LINE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY AT A GOODYEAR SERVICE CENTER AT A COST OF $180.00! *TR
THIS IS A FOLLOW UP COMPLAINT TO ONE I CALLED IN TO THE NHTSA TO REPORT THIS PROBLEM. I TOO HAD A BRAKE LINE RUPTURE ON MY 2002 CHEVY PICKUP AND MY BRAKES FAIL AS A RESULT OF CORRODED BRAKE LINES. THIS TRUCK HAD ALREADY BEEN RECALLED DUE TO THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR FAILING AT LOW SPEED WHICH THEY GM) ALSO ATTRIBUTED TO CORROSION. AND JUST LAST MONTH THEY FAILED BECAUSE OF THE LINE CORRODING AND RUPTURING. I ATTEMPTED TO COME TO A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD. I EVENTUALLY STOPPED JUST SHORT OF THE INTERSECTION AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK TO A SERVICE STATION. I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK AND SAW THE BRAKE FLUID LEAKING OUT OF THE RUPTURED BRAKE LINE BENEATH THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. I TOOK THE TRUCK IN AND WAS INFORMED THE BRAKE LINES WERE ROTTED OUT AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. $1800 DOLLARS LATER I GOT MY TRUCK BACK. LET'S SEE HOW LONG THEY LAST THIS TIME.. *TR
ABS LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND OFF, WHEN THIS HAPPENS I HAVE NO BRAKES CAUSING ME TO RUN OUT INTO INTERSECTIONS OR PROPERTY. I HAVE CLEANED THE ABS SENSORS 2X AND THE PROBLEM KEEPS PERSISTING THIS HAS HAPPENED 3X NOW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN AT SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 60 MPH SITTING IDLE AT A TRAFFIC STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WITHOUT WARNING. WHEN THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR, THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE POWER STEERING AND BRAKING POWER AS HE WOULD COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY. THE CONTACT WOULD BE ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND ON OCCASION, IT WOULD TAKE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER FILED A CLAIM FOR THE CONTACT BUT WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 69,976. THE CONSUMER STATED SINCE THE REPORT WAS FILED, HE HAD THE CRANK SENSOR REPLACED AND IT ELIMINATED THE PROBLEM. UPDATED EVOQ 10/22/10
TWICE I HAVE HAD THE SPARE TIRE WINCH CABLE BREAK ON ME,IF THIS WAS TO HAPPEN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC OR HIGH SPEEDS IT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH,AND I WAS NEVER AWARE IT WAS GONE UNTIL I NEEDED THE SPARE. *TR
I WAS PULLING INOT A PARKING SPACE AT DUNKIN DONUTS AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKE TO STOP IT MADE A NOISE AS IF THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM WAS GOING TO KICK ON BUT IMMEDIATELY STOPPED AND MY BRAKE PEDAL FROZE STUCK AT THE TOP OF DEPRESSION LEAVING ME WITH NO BRAKE AT ALL. I HIT THE CEMENT STOP BUMPER POLE, LUCKILY IT WAS THERE, AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END OF MY TRUCK.(BUMPER & FRAMEWORK). GOOD THING THIS OCCURED HERE WITHIN A PARKING AREA AND NOT OUT ON THE ROAD AT AN INTERSECTION WHICH I JUST WENT THROUGH. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED BUT IT MAKES ME VERY WEARY OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. I DISCONNECTED THE FUSE TO THE ABS SYSTEM SO THIS WILL NOT OCCUR AGAIN UNTIL IT IS INVESTIGATED FURTHER. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 SILVERADO. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATES AT VERY LOW SPEEDS AS DESCRIBED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000. I LIVE IN ILLINOIS BUT DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE FROM GM OR MY DEALER. I CALLED CHEVROLET AND THEY MAINTAIN THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY TRUCK. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. *TR

THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS LEAKING FLUID. THE CONTACTED FOUND TWO RELATED NHTSA RECALLS, 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, ANTILOCK) AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V161000 (PARKING BRAKE). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE ROTTEN AND THAT THE BRAKE SENSOR WAS CORRODED. THE DEALER WOULD NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE ROAD CONDITIONS MAY HAVE BEEN A FACTOR DUE TO SALT ON THE ROADS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 142,000.
I HAVE A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z-71 PICKUP TRUCK. I HAVE 105,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN I'M AT A LOW SPEED MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE FOR NO REASON AND THE TRUCK WONT STOP. THE 2002 SILVERADO (STANDARD) WAS RECALLED DUE TO DEFECTIVE PARKING BRAKE ID 05V161000 DATED 4/22/05. I OWN A 2002 SILVERADO TRUCK WITH ONLY 35,000 BUT IT IS AUTOMATIC AND THE GM DEALER IN HAWAII WILL NOT FIX MY HAND BRAKE BECAUSE IT WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THE RECALL. MY HAND BRAKE DOES NOT WORK AND I AM DUE FOR A SAFETY CHECK SOON. I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER SEVERAL MONTHS AGO AND THEY WILL NOT FIX THIS PROBLEM - THEY SAY THEY WILL SERVICE IT BUT IT WILL COST $400+. *TR

THE ABS IS ENGAGING AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN ON DRY PAVEMENT MAKING MY STOPPING DISTANCE LONGER. IT HAS OCCURRED APPROX 3-4 TIMES OVER THE LAST 5 DAYS. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT WAS ADDRESSED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER : 05V379000. WHEN THAT RECALL CAME OUT THE ISSUE WAS ADDRESSED BY THE DEALER BUT NOW THE SAME ISSUE IS OCCURRING AND GENERAL MOTORS IS REFUSING TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE W/O ANY COST, SAYING THEY DID WHAT THE RECALL REQUIRED. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT WAS NOT PROPERLY FIXED WHEN THE RECALL CAME OUT. THANK YOU *TR

I OWN A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD WITH 8.1L ENGINE. THE TRUCK HAS STARTED STALLING (ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUTTING DOWN) WHILE I AM DRIVING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 7 OR 8 TIMES NOW. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN OR HOW FAST YOU MAY BE GOING. SO FAR, I HAVE REPLACED BATTERY, BATTERY CABLES, HAD THE FUEL LINES SERVICED, AND HAD THE FUEL INJECTORS CLEANED. AFTER DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS THE ISSUE AS IS ON MANY OF THESE TRUCKS. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2001 TRUCKS FOR THIS ISSUE BUT NOT ON THE 2002 TRUCKS FOR SOME REASON. COSTLY TO FIX THIS ISSUE. MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 67,000 MILES ON IT. *TR

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 140,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 146,000.
BRAKES FAILED WHEN I WAS DRIVING, COMING TO A STOP. AT ABOUT 5 MPH THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I LOST ALL STOPPING CONTROL. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO A GOODYEAR SHOP WHO TOLD ME THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND ONE FAILED CAUSING ALL PRESSURE TO GO OUT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS CORRODED AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE/REBUILD THE ENTIRE SYSTEM. TOTAL COST TO FIX THE BRAKES WAS $2464.47. *TR
ON 01/10/2010 AT 2:45 A.M. WE WERE AWAKENED BY A PASSER BY WHO NOTICED OUR TRUCK WAS ON FIRE. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT IT HAD COMPLETELY DESTROYED OUR TRUCK, OUR CAR ,OUR GRANDSONS TRUCK AND $66,000.00 DAMAGE TO THE HOUSE WE WERE RENTING. WE LOST OUR VEHICLES AND 90% OF EVERYTHING WE OWN. IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE ENGINE BLOCK HEATER IN OUR 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD. WE HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH GENERAL MOTORS. WE GAVE THEM ALL THE FIRE REPORTS FROM BOTH WEST VALLEY CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT AS WELL AS THE REPORT AND PICTURES PROVIDED BY THE INVESTIGATOR. GM REFUSES TO REPLACE / EXTEND WARRANTY. MANY OTHER CUSTOMERS REPORT SAME PROBLEM AND RECURRING. COST TO REPAIR...$5200. THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT BRAKE LINE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED BECAUSE THE LINE HAD ROTTED ON THE UNDERSIDE ALONG THE FRAME RAIL, WHERE IT WAS NOT DETECTED. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE DEALER INSTALLED USED, DEFECTIVE PARTS FOR THE PREVIOUS REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED HE WOULD REPAIR THE VEHICLE HIMSELF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD PICKUP TRUCK. ON 12/11/09 WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR, LEAVING ME WITH NO BRAKES. FORTUNATELY, I WAS GOING VERY SLOW AT THE TIME AND WAS ABLE TO ROLL TO A SLOW STOP WITH NO DAMAGE OR INJURY. I FOUND THAT MY BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTY WITH A HOLE ENTIRELY THROUGH ONE PLACE. I DID AN INTERNET SEARCH ON 'SILVERADO" AND 'RUSTY BRAKE LINES' AND FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER IRATE OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS AND WAS TOLD I WOULD NEED TO HAVE A DEALER INSPECT THE TRUCK BEFORE ANY ADDITIONAL ACTION COULD BE TAKEN. THIS IS THE RESULT: I WAS CHARGED $175.09 FOR HAULING THE VEHICLE 20 MILES TO THE NEAREST DEALER AND 'INSPECTING IT; YES, THE LINES WERE RUSTED OUT AS I HAD TOLD THEM; GENERAL MOTORS WILL PROVIDE NO FURTHER ACTION BECAUSE THE PROBLEM MAY BE THE RESULT OF 'LOW MILEAGE'; AND THE DEALER WANTS TO REPLACE THE BRAKE LINES FOR $1000.00. I LIVE IN NORTH CAROLINA AND HAVE DRIVEN AND WORKED ON VEHICLES FOR OVER 50 YEARS AND I HAVE NEVER BEFORE HAD A HOLE RUSTED IN A BRAKE LINE. THE SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED LOSS OF BRAKES HAS TO BE A DEADLY DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN. *TR
