MY 2002 CHEVY SUBURBAN REAR LIFT GLASS HAS SEPARATED AT BOTH HINGES. IT IS CURRENTLY BEING HELD IN PLACE WITH 100 MILE AN HOUR TAPE WHILE I AM TRYING TO FIND REPLACEMENT GLASS. APPARENTLY CHEVY WILL NOT RECALL THIS ALTHOUGH IT SEEMS TO BE VERY COMMON AND IS AN OBVIOUS HAZARD SHOULD THE GLASS FLY OFF ONTO A VEHICLE BEHIND ME. THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP IS CHARGING ~$900 FOR THE PART. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH AND APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM BEGAN TO PULSATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO STOP AND THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO CORROSION OF THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS SPECIFIC COMPONENT AND WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED AND STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT LIABLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
BRAKE LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS CONTROL UNIT AND FROM THE ABS CONTROL UNIT TO THE FRONT WHEEL BRAKES ARE RUSTED THROUGH. THIS OCCURRED ON JUNE 9, 2008. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY SIX YEARS OLD AND THE BRAKE LINE SHOULD NOT RUST THROUGH THAT QUICKLY. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION AS ALL OF THE BRAKE FLUID IS PUMPED OUT OF THE MASTER CYLINDER AND YOU THEN LOSE ALL BRAKING ON THE VEHICLE. *TR
DASHBOARD STARTING TO PEEL, VEHICLE IS HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGE KEPT, NOT DRIVEN TO WORK AND LEFT OUT IN SUN ALL DAY ON REGULAR BASIS. PEELS LIKE IT HAS A THIN MEMBRANE ON THE OUTSIDE AND IT IS MOLTING. *TR
THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WENT BAD ON IT I HAD A MECHANIC LOOK OVER THE TRUCKS FRONT END THINKING THE BALL JOINTS WERE BAD. THAT WASN'T THE CASE HIS DAD HAS AN 04 SILVERADO THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED MY LOCAL CHEVROLET GARAGE IN INDIANA AND THEY ACTED LIKE THEY NEVER HEARD OF IT. SO I CALLED THE LOCAL GMC DEALERSHIP AND ITS GETTING FIXED NEXT WEEK. SENSE ITS A 2002 THERE IS NO WARRANTY SO ITS GOING TO COST AROUND 200 DOLLARS. IT MAKES A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE FRONT END AND THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS LOOSE. IT ALSO MAKES A WEIRD GRINDING NOISE SO I HOPE THIS FIXES MY PROBLEM!!! *TR
CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS OPERATING INTERMITTENTLY CAUSING VEHICLE STALLING DURING NORMAL DRIVING. THIS FAILURE IS SO FAR RANDOM AND MAY OR MAY NOT OCCUR EACH TIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN. NO SES LIGHT ACCOMPANIES THIS FAILURE. SO FAR ENGINE WILL RESTART AFTER 10-15 SECONDS WITH KEY OFF. THIS FAILURE SEEMS SIMILAR TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 07V521000 ADDRESSING THE SAME ISSUE ON THE PREVIOUS MODEL YEAR OF THIS VEHICLE. THIS FAILURE HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS AND SEEMS TO BE OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY LATELY. *TR
I HAVE THE 2002 SILVERADO 2500HD WITH THE 8.1L ENGINE AND I HAVE RANDOM STALLING WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED OR EVEN STANDING AT A STOP LIGHT. IT HAS JUST STARTED TO NOT START FROM A COLD START TOO.THIS HAPPENS 4 TO 5 TIMES A DAY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 7 MPH, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD RELEASE THE BRAKES THEN DEPRESSED THEM AGAIN TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS A RECALL REPAIR MADE FOR THE SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID # 05V379000) IN JANUARY OF 2006. THE CONTACT FELT THAT REMEDY FOR THE RECALL WAS NOT SUFFICIENT. AS OF MAY 16, 2008, THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 100,000.
I HAVE A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO THAT WAS PART OF A RECALL FOR ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ENGAGING AT LOW SPEEDS (4-10MPH). I TOOK MY TRUCK TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE RECALL SERVICE PERFORMED IN 2006. NOW, IN 2008, AS I WAS DRIVING THROUGH TOWN, MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKES KICKED IN AND I ALMOST WRECKED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. IT NOW HAPPENS ON A REGULAR BASIS EVERYTIME I TRY TO BRAKE AT LOW SPEEDS. I CALLED CHEVY TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND THEY WERE OF NO HELP WHATSOEVER. THEY COULD NOT OFFER A GOOD EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THEY WOULD NOT FIX MY PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH THEY ACKNOWLEDGE IT IS A PROBLEM AND A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM TWICE SINCE I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE. I REPORTED THE FIRST INCIDENT ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO. I NEVER RECEIVED A REPLY FROM YOU OR GM. ON APRIL 30 08 I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. I WAS ABOUT TO PULL INTO THE CARPORT AND WHEN I PUT MY TRUCK IN DRIVE IT SUDDENLY SHOT FORWARD INTO A TRAVEL TRAILER AND DRIVING IT INTO THE WALL. BOTH THE TRAILER AND THE CARPORT WERE DAMAGED THERE WAS NO VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK. *TR
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 58000 MILES. THIS TRUCK WAS NEVER USED FOR TOWING. THE REVERSE WENT OUT BACKING OUT THE GARAGE. ALSO, THE VENT AND VAPOR SENSOR FOR THE FUEL TANK FAILED. I WAS TOLD THERE HAVE BEEN MANY UPDATES FOR THE TRANSMISSION. *TR

AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK), IT IS CURRENTLY BEGINNING TO FAIL. WHEN APPROACHING A STOP, THE CONTACT MUST APPLY EXTREME PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,229 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT ROTORS ARE RUSTING. THE REAR ROTORS ALSO RUSTED, BUT THEY WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,129 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,000. UPDATED 09/29/08. *LJ
DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AT 35 MPH, TRANSMISSION FAILED (SUN SHELL GEAR IN A4L60E GM TRANSMISSION). LOST ALL DRIVE AND WAS BUMPED FROM REAR, DENTED BUMPER ONLY. TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. COMPLETE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL HIGHWAY CONDITIONS, THE ENGINE HAS STALLED THREE TIMES IN TWO WEEKS. THIS CAUSES A LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. AT THIS POINT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OFF OF THE ROAD, AS IT HAS NOT OCCURRED DURING CONGESTED TRAFFIC. WHILE SEARCHING THE DATABASE I FOUND SIMILAR FAILURES OF 2001 8.1L ENGINES THAT WERE RECALLED TO REPLACE THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES AND DRUMS CORRODED SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALER REPLACED THEM AFTER THE FIRST FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE ISSUE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD EXTEND THE WARRANTY FOR THE LUBRICATION AND OIL CHANGE ONLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK) IN MARCH OF 2008. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED, BUT THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE. AT THAT TIME, THE BRAKES WERE CLEANED AND INSPECTED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART WOULD BE IN SOON. AS OF APRIL 18, 2007, THE PART IS STILL UNAVAILABLE. WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY PARKED. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 119,000.
MY TIRE TREAD CAME COMPLETELY OFF AS I WAS GOING 70MPH ON FLORIDA TURNPIKE YESTERDAY, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT, AND RIPPED MY WHOLE PLASTIC DUST PROTECTOR, (NOT SURE OF PROPER NAME) OFF. TIRES ARE FIRESTONE STEELEX AT LT 245/75/R16 WHICH HAD 40,000MILES, BUT SHOWED VERY LITTLE WEAR. AAA CAME AND GOT ME ON THE ROAD AGAIN, BUT WAS REALLY A FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE. ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THESE TIRES? THESE WERE THE ORIGINAL TIRES ON MY CHEVY SILVERADO WHICH I BOUGHT NEW, AND HAVE MAINTAINED FAITHFULLY. *TR
2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EQUIPPED WITH DURAMAX DIESEL ENGINE, FUEL INJECTOR BODIES CRACKED FILLING ENGINE CRANK CASE WITH DIESEL FUEL. I FOUND THE CONDITION BEFORE ANY DAMAGE COULD OCCUR. IF THIS CONDITION WAS NOT CAUGHT LIKE I DID, THE FUEL IN THE OIL WOULD OVER FLOW FROM THE ENGINE CRANK CASE AND SPRAY UNDER THE VEHICLE POTENTIALLY CAUSING A FIRE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP WHERE THE FUEL INJECTORS ARE BEING REPLACED BY A SPECIAL CAMPAIGN. DEALER WAS RELUCTANT TO REPLACE FUEL INJECTORS DUE TO NOT MEETING ALL CONDITIONS MANDATED BY GM. GM HAS EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS PROBLEM TO 7 YEARS OR 200K MILES, BUT HAS NOT DONE A RECALL. THESE FUEL INJECTORS HAVE AN EXTREMELY HIGH FAILURE RATE AND MANY LEAK FUEL INTO THE CRANK CASE WHICH COULD BE A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. *TR
WE OWN A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO LS 2500 HD WITH ALLISON TRANS. & VORTEC 8100 8.1 LITER V8 ENGINE. THE CHECK-ENGINE LIGHT WAS COMING ON, THE ENGINE RAN ROUGH, AND SOMETIMES STALLED COMPLETELY, USUALLY AFTER STARTING UP FROM A STOP. OUR DEALER REPLACED THE CRANK SENSOR AND WE HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS SINCE. HOWEVER, WE RECENTLY HEARD (AND FOUND INFORMATION ON YOUR WEBSITE) THAT 29 OF 2001 CHEVY OR GMC MODELS HAD A RECALL FOR CRANK SENSORS (NHTSA #EA06016). IS AN INVESTIGATION UNDER WAY FOR THE 2002 MODELS? WHO DO WE NEED TO CONTACT? *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING COLUMN MAKES A CLUNKING NOISE WHENEVER A BUMP IS STRUCK OR DRIVING OVER ROUGH TERRAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TWICE TO HAVE THE STEERING SHAFT SERVICED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,400 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR FAILED WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 55 MPH. THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY LOST POWER AND SHUT OFF. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BATTERY CABLE AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED. THE FOLLOWING DAY, WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND TOOK THE VEHICLE FOR A TEST DRIVE. THE VEHICLE FAILED AGAIN AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE. THEY REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,463 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000. UPDATED 10/16/08 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE 2002 MODELS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ABS AT THE COST OF $1,046.36. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,500. UPDATED 04-02-08 *BF
FAILURE OF ENGINE DUE TO FUEL INJECTORS. *TR
FUEL LEAK - FUEL CONSUMPTION - LACK OF POWER - SMOKING - HARD TO START - NO ACCELERATING POWER. I HAVE SINCE STARTED SOME RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE AND COME TO FIND OUT THAT THERE HAS BEEN MULTIPLE ENGINE RECALLS IN MY SAME CLASS FROM THE SAME MANUFACTURING COMPANY, HOWEVER MY VIN# HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED YET. I HAVE LODGED A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB AND HAVE ADDRESSED MY CONCERNS DIRECTLY WITH GM HOWEVER THEY HAVE NOT TAKEN ANY ACTION TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE BEFORE IT HURTS OR KILLS SOMEONE. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO TRUCK. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 28,000 MILES ON IT AND RECENTLY BEGAN MAKING GRINDING NOISES. I TOOK IT TO CENTURY CHEVROLET AND WAS TOLD THAT ALL 4 ROTORS AND PADS NEED TO BE REPLACED. WITH ONLY 38,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK THAT SEEMED CRAZY. WHEN I QUESTIONED THIS THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HARDLY EVER SEE THIS BRAKE PROBLEM HAPPENING AND IT'S BECAUSE I DON'T DRIVE THE TRUCK ENOUGH SO IT'S RUSTED OUT THE PARTS. RUSTY PARTS IN COLORADO IS ANOTHER THING THAT DIDN'T MAKE SENSE. THEY COULD ONLY DO THE FRONT BRAKE REPAIR BECAUSE OF MY CAMPER SO THEY REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS AND PADS FOR A LITTLE OVER $400. I STARTED CHECKING AROUND ABOUT THE BRAKES AND DISCOVERED ON THE INTERNET THAT THERE WERE MANY SIMILAR STORIES FROM OTHER SILVERADO OWNERS. THERE IS A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO OWN THESE VEHICLES WITH PARTS THAT JUST DETERIORATE. CHEVROLET CONTINUES TO DENY THAT IT'S DEFECTIVE PARTS AND INSTEAD TELLS PEOPLE THAT IT'S THEIR FAULT FOR NOT USING THE BRAKES ENOUGH. WE USE THIS TRUCK MOSTLY IN THE SUMMER FOR CAMPING AND TRAVELING BUT DO DRIVE IT IN THE WINTER SO I?M UNSURE WHAT IS CONSIDERED THE PROPER AMOUNT OF ?BRAKING? TIME. THE DEALER COULDN?T GIVE ME AN ANSWER ON THAT QUESTION. THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE AND THEY SHOULD BE WARNED THAT PART OF THE MAINTENANCE ON THIS VEHICLE IS $1,000 BRAKE JOB EVERY $25,000 MILES OR YOU WON'T HAVE ANY BRAKES. WE HAVE A 2002 SILVERADO WITH ONLY 28,000 MILES ON IT. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE OTHER DAY BECAUSE OF A GRINDING NOISE AND FOUND OUT THAT ALL 4 ROTORS AND ALL DISC PADS HAVE TO BE REPLACED. WE ARE TOLD THAT WE DON'T DRIVE THE TRUCK ENOUGH FOR THE DISC PADS TO WORK PROPERLY. WE HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING AND STARTED FINDING OTHERS COMPLANING OF THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALER (CENTURY CHEVROLET) SHOWED US ROTORS THAT WERE RUSY AND DETERIORATING. WE LIVE IN COLORADO, RUST IN UNHEARD OF IN VEHICLES HERE. WE DO BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE MATERIALS. *CN
CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2002 AND OTHERS HAVE A SERIOUS BRAKE LINE RUST OUT CONDITION. THIS CAN CAUSE LOSS OF BRAKES AND CRASH. THE LINES SHOULD NOT RUST OUT ON 6 YEARS. *TR

VEHICLE STALLS SUDDNLY WHILE DRIVING. NO DEFINITE PATTERN TO THE STALLING. STALLS AT LEAST ONCE A DAY. HAS BEEN OCCURING FOR ABOUT THE LAST YEAR TO YEAR AND A HALF. WILL PULL OVER, WAIT ANYWHERE BETWEEN 5-20MIN AND THE VEHICLE WIL START AGAIN. *TR
2002 SILVERADO K2500HD, ANTILOCK BRAKES ENGAGE UNDER 15 MPH. HAVE DONE THIS EVERYTIME I STOPPED SINCE I BOUGHT IT 1/11/08. I AM TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY TRUCK, JUST THE 1500 SILVERADO. TRUCK IS DOING THE SAME THING AS THE RECALL FOR THE SMALLER TRUCK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURES; THEREFORE, THE ISSUES CONTINUED TO PERSIST. THE GM DEALER DISCOVERED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WAS FAULTY. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. AN INVESTIGATION WAS OPENED IN REGARDS TO THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR FAILURES (NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE06016), BUT THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 77,000. UPDATED 6/22/09 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN ON HIM WHILD DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. UPDATED 06/25/09.*JB
PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED, THE ANTILOCK BRAKES KICKED IN AND I COULD NOT STOP. I ENDED-UP HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME CAUSING 1,100 IN DAMAGE TO HER CAR. THIS ISSUE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FIXED IN A RECALL IN OCT 2005. THE FIX WAS A BANDAID TO THE REAL PROBLEM. THE ABS SYSTEM IS IN THESE TRUCKS ARE FAULTY. I WAS TOLD THE BEST THING TO DO IS TAKE THE FUSE OUT OF THE TRUCK FOR THE ABS. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, A VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT OF THE DRIVER SIDE. THE CONTACT WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL AFTER SUSTAINING INJURIES TO THE HEAD, NECK AND LIP. THE AMBULANCE AND POLICE ARRIVED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY WITH THE MASSIVE LEVEL OF IMPACT. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHT INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AFTER THE CRASH. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED SEVERE DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
I PURCHASED MY 2002 CHEVROLET IMPALA LS IN DECEMBER, 2004. GREAT LOOKING VEHICLE WITH NUMEROUS PROBLEMS. THE MOST RECENT AND SEVERE HAS COME OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS. WHILE ACCELERATING ON AN ENTRANCE RAMP, THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT PROPERLY; VERY ROUGH AND THE RPM'S GO TO 4000 OR ABOVE BEFORE SHIFTING OR IF I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR. I AM TERRIFIED THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS GOING TO COME OUT COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING WITH MY FAMILY IN THE VEHICLE; I AM TAKING THE CAR TO A MECHANIC TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET C1500. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH AND APPROXIMATELY 3 FEET AWAY FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES MADE A VERY LOUD NOISE BEFORE THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A REPAIR SHOP. THE CABLE HOLDING THE SPARE TIRE ON MY 2002 SILVERADO FAILED,MY TIRE DROPPED FROM THE VEHICLE AND I INITIALLY THOUGHT THAT SOMEONE HAD RAN INTO ME. I LOOKED IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR AND NOTICED MY TIRE HEADING TOWARDS THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER RETRIEVING THE TIRE AND THEN LOCATING THE OTHER RELATED HARDWARE, I EXAMINED THE CABLE AND IT REMINDED ME OF A PREVIOUS FAILURE I HAD ON A CABLE THAT SUPPORTS THE TAILGATE IN THE OPEN POSITION. WHEN THE CABLE FAILED ON THE TAILGATE, I TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED FAILED CABLE, BUT LET ME KNOW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CABLES AND WOULD BE ASKED TO RETURN AND BOTH CABLES WOULD BE REPLACED. I WAS CALLED AND THE NEW CABLES WERE INSTALLED. I WAS TOLD THE FAILURES HAD TO DO WITH A ZINC COATING EITHER USED OR NOT USED. I WAS CURIOUS IF THE SAME ISSUE COULD APPLY TO THE FAILURE OF THE CABLE THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIME? *JB

SERVICE MANAGER AT LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP SAID $230 FOR THE SAME WORK AS STATED IN THE RECALL PLUS $80 FOR EACH SENSOR IF THEY BREAK WHEN BEING REMOVED WHICH THEY SEEM PRONE TO DO. OR HE SAID THAT I COULD PULL THE FUSE TO THE ABS SYSTEM, BUT THEY COULD NOT. JUST REGARDING GM RECALL NO. 06083 ALL 2001 SILVERADO @500/3500 HD MODELS WITH THE 8.1L GAS ENGINES: ALL THE CRANKSHAFT SENSORS ARE TO BE RECALLED IN THAT YEAR ONLY WHEN THE PROBLEM EXIST IN ALL 8.1L ENGINES UP TO 2006. I HAD A 900 DOLLAR BILL FROM A DEALERSHIP TO TRY AND FIX THIS PROBLEM AND THEN THE PROBLEM WASN'T EVEN SOLVED. I BOUGHT THE PART MYSELF AND INSTALLED IT MYSELF. I FEEL THAT ALL YEARS SHOULD BE RECALLED. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM BECAUSE THE ENGINE WOULD FAIL WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD A HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THANKS *TR
