2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO.ABS ISSUE. DRIVING AT LESS THAN 10MPH, ABS PUMP WAS ENGAGED AND I WAS BARELY ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE, I HAD TO USE PARKING BRAKE AND DOWNSHIFT IN ORDER TO GET MY VEHICLE TO STOP. I WAS WITHIN ONE CAR LENGTH FROM STRIKING ANOTHER CAR ON THE ROAD. ABS IS CONSTANTLY RUNNING AND KICKS IN AT LOWER SPEEDS. VERY UNSAFE. *TR
MY WIFE COMPLAINED TO ME THE BRAKES ON OUR 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO PICK-UP, FELT FUNNY. I BACKED OUR PICK-UP TRUCK OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND WENT TO THE END OF THE STREET, THE BRAKES FELT MUSHY. AS I GOT TO THE END OF OUR STREET IS A STOP SIGN. I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 15 TO 20MPH. I WENT TO STOP THE TRUCK AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP. I PUMPED THE BRAKES AND THEN HELD FIRMLY ON THE PEDAL. I QUICKLY OBSERVED CROSS TRAFFIC IN THE ROAD BEFORE ME AND I TURNED SHARPLY ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY WEST JUST BEING NARROWLY MISSED BY WEST BOUND TRAFFIC. I HAD MY WIFE FOLLOW ME TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I COASTED INTO THE DEALERSHIP WITHOUT ANY BRAKES AT ALL. THE FOLLOWING DAY I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP I NEEDED ALL NEW BRAKE LINES AND BRAKE CALIBERS. THEY ASKED ME TO COME DOWN AND VIEW THE UNDER PORTIONS OF OUR PICK-UP AND I DID SO. THE TRUCK WAS UP ON THE HOIST AND MECHANIC AND SERVICE REP SHOWED ME HE WAS UNABLE TO TAKE THE BROKEN LINE OUT OF THE BRAKE CALIBER WITHOUT SNAPPING OFF THE NUT HOLDING THE BRAKE LINE. THEY SHOWED ME THE REMAINING BRAKE LINES ALL IN STAGES OF RUSTING OUT INCLUDING THE ONE LINE THAT BLEW OPEN CAUSING THE SUDDEN LEAK AND "NO BRAKES" PROBLEM. THE REPAIR SERVICE COST ME APPROXIMATELY $2800,00. I COMPLAINED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER [XXX], I TOLD HIM I HAVE DRIVEN GM CARS FOR DECADES ON MICHIGAN ROADS AND NEVER HAD ANY BRAKE LINE RUST OUT AND FAIL. I WAS TOLD THE BRAKE LINE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE SALTY CONDITIONS DRIVING IN MICHIGAN WINTERS. HIS EXPLANATION STILL DID NOT MAKE MUCH SENSE TO ME. I KNOW CAR MANUFACTURES ARE VERY AWARE OF THESE TYPE ROAD CONDITIONS IN THE MIDWEST AND NORTH EAST. THE DEALERSHIP THAT I TOOK MY TRUCK TO IS THE ONLY REPAIR FACILITY I HAVE TAKEN IT TO FOR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS. THAT WAS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR BILL. WENT TO PUT ON BRAKES AND NOTHING FOUND THAT THEY HAVE RUSTED THROUGH AND NOT FROM RUBBING OR CLAMPS. WAS ABLE TO KEEP FROM HITTING ANOTHER CAR. *TR
WENT TO STOP AT STOP SIGN, BRAKES WENT TO FLOOR, NO CARS WERE COMING, WENT THRU SIGN BY TIME E-BRAKE WAS HIT. *TR
WAS HOOKING UP TRAILER AND STARTED TO MOVE TOUCHED THE BRAKE AND PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE RUSTED COMPLETELY INTO . ALL BRAKE LINES VERY RUSTY. BECAUSE OF RUST I HAVE REPLACED ALL 4 ROTORS,ALL 4 CALIPERS ALL 4 SHOCKS, ALWAYS PARKED IN GARAGE.THE TRUCK FRAME IS TOTAL RUST. THE RIMS HAD TO BE PAINTED BECAUSE OF RUST THE SPARE IS SOLID RUST. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REVERSING FROM A DRIVE WAY, THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP. THE CONTACT NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM THE BRAKE LINE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO USE THE EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
I HAVE A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 TRUCK, AND HAD A NEW SET OF TIRES (OEM SIZE), A NEW NAPA HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY AND A NEW NAPA INNER TIE ROD. THIS WORK WAS PROFESSIONALLY INSTALLED BY A CERTIFIED ASE MECHANIC AT A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP ON JULY 3, 2013. THE TIE ROD FAILED ON JULY 29, 2013. THE HUB BEARING AND THE INNER TIE ROD WERE REPLACED DUE TO NORMAL WEAR. THANKFULLY - THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND NOT LAST WEEKEND DOING 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY FAMILY IN MY TRUCK. FAILURE OF THIS PART ON THE HIGHWAY COULD HAVE COST ME MY LIFE, MY FAMILY'S LIVES AND THE LIVES OF EVERYONE ELSE IN MY UNINTENDED PATH. VEHICLE WAS "REPAIRED" BY THE LOCAL SHOP IN THE DRIVEWAY AND THEY SHOWED UP WITH A REPLACEMENT NAPA INNER TIE ROD. I SEE ON THE BOX THAT THIS PART IS MANUFACTURED IN CHINA. I DID NOT WANT THAT PART ON MY VEHICLE AND TOLD THEM THEY COULD INSTALL IT FOR A ONE-TIME TRIP TO THE SHOP BUT THEN I WANT IT CHANGED TO ANOTHER BRAND. THEY OBLIGED AND FOUND ANOTHER MANUFACTURER. THE NAPA PART IS ES3478 - INNER TIE ROD. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. WHEN I GOT HOME I SAW BRAKE FLUID LEAKING OUT OF STEEL LINE. WHEN I TOOK TO GET REPAIRED THEY PUT TRUCK ON LIFT AND I SAW THAT STEEL BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND HOLES OPENED UP IN LINES.THIS WAS A COSTLY REPAIR AND THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. *TR
I STARTED MY TRUCK IN ORDER TO PUT IT AWAY IN THE GARAGE, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. UPON INVESTIGATION, I FOUND A POOL OF BRAKE FLUID BELOW THE TRUCK. I ALSO SAW THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE EXTREMELY CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WENT TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE ABOUT REPAIR COSTS, AND WAS TOLD THAT REPAIRS WOULD BE OVER $1,000.00. I HAVE NEVER SEEN CORROSION LIKE THIS IN ANY VEHICLE THAT WAS LESS THAT 25 YEARS OLD. I HAVE RESTORED MANY VINTAGE CARS, AND HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A STEEL BRAKE LINE DUE TO CORROSION. I HAD MY TWO YOUNG GRANDSONS AND MY WIFE IN THIS TRUCK WITH ME LESS THAN A WEEK AGO, AND IF THIS BRAKE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED WHILE WE WERE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, IT IS LIKELY THAT WE ALL WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THESE VEHICLES ARE TICKING TIME BOMBS, AND MUST BE TAKEN OFF OF THE ROADS. I HAVE GARAGED THIS TRUCK SINCE I PURCHASED IT AS A NEW VEHICLE, AND IT HAS BEEN SERVICED AT OUR LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP PER THE MANUFACTURER'S SCHEDULE. THE CORROSION ISSUE IS NOT DUE TO NEGLECT, BUT RATHER TO THE USE OF SUBSTANDARD MATERIAL. THIS IS AN URGENT ISSUE THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED AND RECTIFIED. *TR
WHILE TOWING MY BOAT I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN WHILE PRESSING MY BRAKE PEDAL IT WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF THE OTHER STOPPED CARS AT THE STOP SIGN I HAD JUST ENOUGH PRESSURE TO STOP IN THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE JUST PAST THE CARS IN MY LANE WHICH I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO AVOID HITTING. THANKFULLY ALSO THERE WAS NO CARS COMING IN THE OTHER DIRECTION. I THEN PULLED OVER AND GOT OUT OF MY TRUCK AND NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM UNDER MY TRUCK UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR ENTRANCE. I THEN LOOKED UNDER AND NOTICED THE RUSTED LINES THE FLUID WAS COMING FROM AS IT WAS DRIPPING OUT. THIS COULD OF BEEN A DISASTER BECAUSE IF I HAD MADE IT TO THE INTERSTATE AND GOT ON THE HIGHWAY TO HEAD HOME I SURELY WOULD OF NOT BEEN AS LUCKY. SO FAR MY TOWING COST ME 298.00 TO GET MY TRUCK HOME AND TO MY MECHANIC WHERE IT SITS IN THEIR LOT UNTIL MONDAY MORNING. LUCKILY MY FISHING PARTNER WAS NOT FAR BEHIND ME AND SAW ME PULLED OVER AND THEN PULLED OVER TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. HE HAS A TRUCK AND TOWED MY BOAT ALL THE WAY HOME FOR ME WHICH WAS 60 MILES. THIS WAS BY FAR THE SCARIEST EVENT I EVER HAVE HAD IN MY TRUCK WHILE TOWING BUT DO REALIZE THAT IT COULD OF BEEN MUCH WORST. AFTER READING ALL THE COUNTLESS ISSUES THAT MOST HAVE HAD WITH THIS I CANNOT IMAGINE WHY GM HAS NOT STEPPED UP TO FIX THE PROBLEM THROUGH A RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM ACTIVATED AND CAUSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PULSATE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS LINKED TO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTI-LOCK). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000. UPDATED 10/31/13*LJ
ON RESTARTING THE VEHICLE MOMENTS AFTER HAVING DRIVEN IT WITHOUT ISSUE, THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT SPONGY, AND WITH MORE PRESSURE, SUNK TO THE FLOOR. FLUID WAS FOUND TO BE RUNNING OFF OF THE TRUCK FRAME UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR. NO WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AT THE TIME. LATER, APPARENTLY WHEN THE FLUID HAD DRAINED DOWN ENOUGH, THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. ON INSPECTION, ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE FOUND TO BE VERY BADLY DECAYED JUST FORWARD OF THE ABS UNIT, WITH ONE HAVING FAILED. THIS IS NOT AN OFF-ROAD TRUCK. IT HAS HAD CONSERVATIVE ROAD USE. FORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT TOWING MY 8000 POUND TRAILER AT THE TIME. I RECENTLY SOLD A 1972 CHEVROLET WHICH HAD NEVER REQUIRED ANY BRAKE LINE REPLACEMENTS. WHY ARE THESE RELATIVELY NEW TRUCKS BRAKES ALL FAILING? *TR
WHILE PULLING OUT OF MY GARAGE, I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. I QUICKLY DISCOVERED THAT ONE OF MY BRAKE LINES HAD RUPTURED. AFTER INSPECTING MY BRAKE LINES, I FOUND EXTREMELY HIGH AMOUNTS OF RUST THROUGHOUT THE EXTERIOR OF THE LINES. THE BRAKE LINE THAT RUPTURED HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND CAUSED THE BRAKE FAILURE. I HAVE REPLACED THE TWO LINES THAT WERE RUSTED THE WORST AND HOPE TO REPLACE THEM ALL IN THE NEAR FUTURE. I DO NOT FEEL THAT BRAKE LINES SHOULD RUST ALL OF THE WAY THROUGH AT THIS LOW OF A MILEAGE. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT GM NEEDS TO DEAL WITH ON ITS TRUCKS AND CARS AS IT COULD CAUSE A VERY SERIOUS CRASH AND POSSIBLY DEATH TO SOMEONE WHO IS NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUE OR HOW TO CHECK FOR IT. *JS
2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 4X4 EXT CAB TRUCK WAS RECALLED IN 2005 FOR ANTI LOCK BRAKE ACTIVATION AT LOW SPEEDS THE DEALER CLEANED PUT ON ANTI CORROSIVE MATERIAL ON SENSOR (AFTER TRUCK WAS IN A ACCIDENT I GOT THE NOTICE IN THE MAIL 3 DAYS LATER) NOW 7/11/2013 ITS HAPPENING AGAIN, THEY WILL NOT FIX IT AGAIN ONLY ONCE, COST FOR NEW HUB AND SENSOR I ABOUT $700 PER SIDE $1,400 TOTAL TO FIX PROBLEM, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE GM, CHEVY SHOULD FIX NOT PUT A BAND AID ON THE FIX. ALSO THE CHEVY DEALER SAID TO ME ITS A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON PARTS AND LABOR WOW THAT'S GREAT AT MY EXPENSE. WHY DIDN'T THEY PUT THE LIFETIME WARRANTY WHEN ITS NEW, NOW I HAVE TO PAY TWICE SOME DEAL. *TR
I HAVE HAD 2 OF THEM FAIL ON MY WORK TRUCK. BOTH HAD VERY LOW MILES. TIRES COMPLETELY BLEW OUT.
I HAD JUST GOTTEN MY FUEL PUMP REPLACED AT A LOCAL GARAGE, WAS DRIVING IT HOME AND FOUND THE BRAKE PEDAL GOING ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARDS. I PULLED OVER AT THE FIRST SAFE PLACE, FOUND A FLUID JUST GUSHING OUT AROUND GAS TANK AREA ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. IT HAD JUST RAINED FOR THE LAST FEW DAYS, SO I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST WATER. I DROVE A LITTLE FURTHER, THEN DECIDED TO DRIVE IT BACK TO THE GARAGE, ONLY ABOUT A MILE AWAY, AFTER SMELLING BRAKE FLUID AND VERIFYING THE MY RESERVOIR WAS SERIOUSLY LOW. MORE DRIPPING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, THIS TIME I'M SICK TO CONFIRM IT IS BRAKE FLUID. TOOK IT BACK TO THE GARAGE, HE SAID HE'D LOOK AT IT TOMORROW, BUT I SAID I'D DRIVE IT HOME ALL OF 2 MILES DOWN THE STREET. GOT HOME NO ISSUES, CAUSE I USED THE E-BRAKE, AND FOUND THE RESERVOIR NEARLY DRAINED. NOTHING AROUND THE WHEELS; THIS WAS THE ONLY LEAK. NOW I'M THINKING THE BRAKE LINES MUST HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY RUSTED (AGAIN!) AND GOTTEN DISTURBED WHEN THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. I HAD THIS HAPPEN SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE USED, ABOUT FIVE YEARS AGO. I PAID GOOD MONEY BACK THEN TO HAVE THE 'STAINLESS STEEL' BRAKE LINES TO THE ABS HEAD REPLACED BACK THEN. WHY ARE THEY RUSTED THROUGH AGAIN!?!?! HAD NO IDEA THEY RAN UP BY THE TOP OF THE TANK, BUT HEY, WHY NOT? I'M CERTAIN THE LINE HAVE RUSTED OUT AGAIN - WHY?!?!? THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE STAINLESS STEEL; SINCE WHEN DOES STAINLESS EVER RUST? I HAUL A 12,000LB FIFTH WHEEL; THANK GOD I WASN'T HAULING AT THE TIME THIS HAPPENED (AGAIN!) AND KILLED MYSELF AND MY ENTIRE FAMILY IN AN AUTO CRASH. JUST SICK OF IT; TAKE CARE OF YOUR BAD ENGINEERING CHEVY! *TR
FRONT MANIFOLD BOLT HAS BROKEN ON DRIVER SIDE CAUSING A LEAK, RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH GM PICKUPS MADE DURING THESE YEARS. IT IS A VERY COSTLY REPAIR AND THERE ARE LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF OTHER GM OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS DEFECTIVE PART. IT IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM, LEAKING CARBON MONOXIDE THRU THE AND INTO THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AREA. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL BY GM TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK EARLY ONE MORNING. A SAAB WENT THROUGH A STOP SIGNED AND I HAD TO SLAM ON MY BRAKES. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, NO BRAKES. ALL BRAKE LINES BLEW.. COST ME OVER $600.00 TO HAVE THEM REPLACED. FAULTY BRAKE LINES ON TRUCK, I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED IF I DIDN'T SWERVE AROUND SAAB ! THESE SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED... *TR
CYLINDER HEADS MALFUNCTIONED CREATING A COOLANT LEAK. *TR
LOST MOST OF MY BRAKING AS A RESULT OF HEAVY RUST ON BRAKE LINES AND OTHER BRAKE PARTS. MECHANIC SAID THIS WAS WAY MORE RUST THAN THERE SHOULD OF BEEN IN THESE AREAS. *TR
I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK FROM NEW. IT IS USED FOR LIMITED HAULING DUTIES AROUND TOWN AND HAS VERY LOW MILEAGE. LAST SUMMER I TOOK IT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER FOR PA STATE INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC DROVE THE CAR INTO THE SERVICE BAY AND UPON DOING SO, THE BRAKE FLUID DUMPED OUT SUDDENLY FROM BENEATH THE TRUCK CHASSIS. THIS WAS 10 MIN AFTER I DROVE THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERS USING A LOCAL EXPRESSWAY. THE TRUCK WAS THEN PUT UP ON THE LIFT AND I WAS SHOWN THE FACT THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED TO THE POINT THAT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS DUMPED ONTO THE FLOOR. I PAID $2332 FOR BRAKE REPAIRS. AS A GRADUATE MATERIALS ENGINEER I INQUIRED AS TO THE MATERIAL USED FOR THE BRAKE LINES AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE CARBON STEEL. IT OFFENDS ME GREATLY THAT THIS TRUCK HAD THIS SEVERE FAILURE WITH LESS THAN 10K MILES, AND THAT GM APPARENTLY HAS BEEN AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HIDDEN IT FOR MANY YEARS. THEIR FOCUS ON SAVING A BUCK COULD HAVE COST LIVES AS A RESULT. THE DEALER WAS NOT HELPFUL IN MAKING ME AWARE OF ANY MITIGATION PROGRAM BY GM. AND I AM STUCK WITH A LARGE BILL FOR THEIR NEGLIGENCE. I AM APPALLED AND AN UNHAPPY CUSTOMER!!!
I WAS COMING TO A NORMAL STOP AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT, I WAS SLOWING DOWN NORMALLY THEN BEGAN TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. ABOUT HALF-WAY OF PEDAL TRAVEL, THE BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN WITH NO RESISTANCE AND I COULD NOT STOP MY CHEVY SILVERADO 2002. I HAD TO SUDDENLY VEER INTO THE NEXT LANE TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR THAT WAS IN FRONT OF ME THAT ALREADY HAD STOPPED AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT. I THEN HAD TO QUICKLY SHIFT DOWN THROUGH THE GEARS TO GET THE TRUCK TO SLOW DOWN, THEN AFTER THE TRUCK HAD SLOWED DOWN A LOT, I SHIFTED INTO PARK TO FORCE THE TRUCK TO COME TO A STOP. AFTER I WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY PULL INTO A PARKING LOT AND STOP THE TRUCK, I EXISTED THE TRUCK AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE WHEELS AND SAW BRAKE FLUID SPRAYED ALL OVER THE DRIVERSIDE FRONT WHEEL WELL. THE BRAKE LINE HAD BURST. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC TO FIX IT AND HE CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD BURST. HE ALSO INSPECTED THE BRAKE LINES FOR THE OTHER THREE WHEELS AND RECOMMENDED ALL OF THEM GET REPLACED. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CHEVY SILVERADO GMT800 TRUCKS FROM MODEL YEARS 1999 AND UP. *TR
REPEAT OCCURRENCE ON 6/22/2013. FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS IN APPROXIMATELY AUGUST OF 2010. BRAKE LINES SEVERELY RUSTED. HAVE KEPT UNDER WATCH, HOWEVER THE RATE OF RUST SEEMS TO INCREASE. WITH THIS LAST INCIDENT, ALL BRAKE LINES WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED, COSTING WELL OVER $1000. VERIFIED WITH 3 LOCALS GARAGES THAT THIS IS A WELL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM FOR THIS YEAR AND AROUND THIS YEAR OF CHEVROLET TRUCKS. THEY HAVE ALL HAD TO DO REPAIR DUE TO VERY POOR QUALITY MATERIALS USED FOR THE BRAKE LINES. THIS TRUCK IS PRIMARILY USED TO PULL A HORSE TRAILER. I FEEL WE WERE FORTUNATE THAT THE ISSUE DID NOT OCCUR WHILE TOWING. GM SHOULD FEEL VERY LUCK. IF THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT WHILE TOWING THE HORSE TRAILER, GM WOULD HAVE HAD A MAJOR LAWSUIT ON THEIR HANDS. AS IT IS, TIME FOR THEM TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND INITIATE THE RECALL. *TR
WENT TO STOP FOR A RED LIGHT AND THE DRIVE SIDE REAR BRAKE LINE BLEW,I WENT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WITH NO BRAKES. THAT WAS A THRILL. *TR
WHILE BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM AFTER CHANGING REAR CALIPERS FOUND A RUPTURE IN THE BRAKE LINE ON THE FRAME BY THE FRONT TIRE. THE LINE WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED AND FAILED. LUCKILY IN THE DRIVEWAY AND NOT THE HIGHWAY. *TR
WHEN I STARTED THE ENGINE THE GAS GAUGE WENT TO FULL THEN BACK TO 0. LATER WHEN I WENT TO USE THE TOW/HAUL IT WOULD NOT WORK, IT WASN'T LONG BEFORE THE ODOMETER AND SHIFT INDICATOR STOPPED WORKING. *TR
BRAKES FAILED SUDDENLY. WE WERE LUCKY THAT WE WERE ONLY GOING ABOUT 20 MPH. BRAKE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON AND STILL DOES NOT SHOW A PROBLEM. RUSTED BRAKE LINE RUPTURED AND BRAKE FLUID COMES OUT WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. I JUST SOLD A TOYOTA 1995 4WD THAT HAS BEEN EXPOSED TO THE SAME ENVIRONMENT AND THERE IS VERY LITTLE RUST COMPARED TO THE CHEVROLET. IT LOOKS LIKE TO ME THAT ALL THE LINES SHOULD BE REPLACED. I HAVE NOT YET HAD IT REPAIRED. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSE A VERY BAD ACCIDENT. WE ARE NOT DRIVING UNTIL IT IS REPAIRED. *TR
SEATBELTS DOES NOT CATCH AND WILL NOT RECOIL. STARTED OUT AS LOOSE NOW IT WILL NOT RETRACT. STARTED WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES WHEN A DOG RAN IN FRONT OF ME AND SEATBELTS DID NOT CATCH AND MY CHEST HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. THE SEATBELTS DID NOT RETRACT AFTER IT PULL OUT. I WAS TRAVELING 55 MPH WHEN THE DOG CROSSED THE HIGHWAY.
MY GIRLFRIEND WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK WENT TO PULL IN TO A PARKING SPOT WHEN SHE HIT THE BRAKES ABS KICKED IN AND WOULD NOT STOP THE TRUCK CAUSING HER TO HIT A PARKED CAR WITH A GOOD AMOUNT OF DAMAGE TO THE OTHER CAR THE BRAKES HAVE NEVER GIVING ME PROBLEMS AND NOW ITS GOT NO BRAKES 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO. *TR
I HAD TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE FROM MY HOUSE WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN. THE PEDAL HAD BARELY ANY PRESSURE AS I APPLIED THE BRAKE, FORTUNATELY I HAD A LITTLE BIT OF PRESSURE AND I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP, BY A COMBINATION OF DOWNSHIFTING AND USING WHAT LITTLE BRAKES THAT I HAD LEFT. THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ON THE PANEL CAME ON AT THAT TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL SHOP TO HAVE THE PROBLEM CHECKED OUT. I WAS TOLD THAT MY BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND THAT THEY ALL HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WAS APPROXIMATELY 1/8 OF A MILE FROM MY ENTRANCE TO THE HIGHWAY, AND I WAS FORTUNATE THAT THIS HAPPENED BEFORE I GOT ON THE HIGHWAY. I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN CONGESTED MORNING TRAFFIC TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 60MPH. I HAD NO PRIOR WARNING. I WAS TOLD BY THE REPAIR SHOP THAT THE LINES WERE RUSTED SO BAD THAT IT WAS SENSELESS TO TRY TO FIX JUST ONE SECTION, AND THAT IF THEY DID THAT I WOULD BE RETURNING SHORTLY TO REPAIR ADDITIONAL PARTS OF THE LINES. THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A VERY LABOR INTENSIVE REPAIR AND THAT IT COULD COST APPROXIMATELY $1000 DOLLARS. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MANY CHEVROLETS MANUFACTURED IN THE 2000 YEARS. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND THEIR SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS , I WENT TO STOP BEHIND A CAR AT A STOP LIGHT AND THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO WARNING. I HIT THE CAR FROM BEHIND AND LUCKILY NO ONE WAR INJURED BUT MINOR DAMAGE TO THE REAR OF THE CAR WAS OBSERVED. AFTER THE INCIDENT, OIL CONTINUED TO LEAK FROM THE LINE UNDER DRIVER SIDE DOOR, THE WARNING LIGHT DID COME ON BUT AFTER THE ACCIDENT HAD ALREADY OCCURRED. THIS WAS THE FIRST FAILURE. BRAKE LINE WAS REPAIRED AND A YEAR LATER, THE SECOND BRAKE LINE FAILED ON MAY 23, 2014. WHILE PULLING BOAT OUT OF BOAT RAMP, I WENT TO STOP THE TRUCK AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN , LUCKILY NOT GOING FAST OR DOWN AN INTERSTATE. AGAIN THE LEAK WAS FROM UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR, BUT WAS THE OTHER PARALLEL LINE GOING TO THE ABS BLOCK. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND I WAS VERY LUCKY TWICE. ALL BRAKE LINES WILL BE REPLACED WITH STAINLESS STEEL LINES. I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER GM PRODUCT UNLESS THEY MAKE THIS RIGHT. *TR
THE EMERGENCY BRAKES HAVE NEVER WORKED, THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AND WILL NOT HOLD THE TRUCK. I HAVE A 4 WHEEL DRIVE WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. WHEN ON AN INCLINE IN PARK THE TRUCK WILL SOMETIMES START TO ROLL DOWN HILL. *TR

WHILE TRAILERING MY BOAT ON I29, 2002 2500 HD, DRIVER FRONT TIRE TREAD SEPARATED CAUSING SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO FENDER, DOOR, BUMPER, BUMPER COVER, BUMPER VALANCE, DRIVING LIGHT, AND FENDER FLARE. TIRE DID STAY INFLATED. I TOOK PICTURES. TIRE FIRESTONE STEELTEX A-T. *TR
VEHICLE WAS TOWING TRAILER IN HAYFIELD AND BRAKES WENT OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE LOW AND IN 1ST GEAR. MY HUSBAND GOT IT BACK TO THE BARN WHICH WAS ABOUT 1/4 MILE AWAY AND THEN IT HAD TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. THE BRAKE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON AND OUR BRAKES WERE NOT OLD. WE FOUND A LEAK IN OUR MAIN BRAKE LINE AND MY HUSBAND PINCHED THE LINE OFF SO WE WOULD HAVE SOME FRONT BRAKE SO WE COULD GET THE TRUCK HOME SO WE COULD WORK ON IT. HE REMOVED THE LINE AND IT WAS SO BADLY RUSTED, THAT IT HAD GOTTEN 3 MAJOR HOLES IN THE LINE AND WE DID HAVE MAJOR BRAKE FAILURE. THE LINE IS WAS VERY RUSTY IN SEVERAL PLACES, BUT THE WORST IS WHERE THE CAB AND BED COME TOGETHER. UPON RESEARCHING WE HAVE FOUND THAT THIS MODEL HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE LINE RUSTING AND CAUSING BRAKE FAILURE. WE REGULARLY HAUL HORSES TO HORSE SHOWS AND HAUL OTHER HEAVY LOADS ON THE ROAD. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED HAD WE BEEN ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND THIS HAPPENED. WE BOUGHT OUR TRUCK NEW AND MAINTAIN IT WELL. WE HAVE NEVER HAD LINES RUST ON ANYTHING LIKE THIS AND NEVER HAD COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. WE FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR, BUT IT IS SERIOUS. WE MAKE SURE WE HAVE SEAT BELTS, AIR BAGS, EMISSIONS ARE LOW AND I FEEL THAT BRAKE LINES SHOULD BE MADE OUT OF A MATERIAL THAT WILL NOT RUST OUT AND CAUSE A MAJOR FAILURE. THIS HAPPENED SO FAST - WE HAD BRAKE AND THEN WE DIDN'T HAVE BRAKE. I THANK GOD THAT WE WERE IN THE HAYFIELD. WE HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN AND WE ALSO TALKED TO A REPAIR SHOP THAT SAID HE HAD A LOT OF THESE COME INTO HIS SHOP ALSO. LEAKING FLUID FOUND TO BE BRAKE FLUID COMING FROM RUST RUPTURED BRAKE LINES, ALL LINES RUSTED AND DEEMED BY DEALERSHIP TO REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OF LINES AND FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS. *TR
UPON REQUIRING AN EMERGENCY STOP FROM 50 MPH APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT AT A BUSY INTERSECTION, ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES BURST. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. (NO BRAKE WARNING LIGHT, NO LOW BRAKE FLUID LIGHT, AND NO LOSS OF ABS LIGHT). I PUMPED THE BRAKES AND DROPPED THE TRANSMISSION INTO 1ST GEAR IN HOPES OF SLOWING DOWN BEFORE A CRASH. I MADE THE RIGHT TURN AT THE INTERSECTION, WHICH WAS UP HILL AND EVENTUALLY BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP. I PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK AND APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. FORTUNATELY, THE LIGHT JUST CHANGED SO THE INTERSECTION WAS STILL CLEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AFTER CONFIRMATION OF THE DAMAGED BRAKE LINE. FURTHER INSPECTION HAS REVEALED THAT ALL THE STEEL BRAKE LINES ARE HEAVILY CORRODED AND ARE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. THIS ISSUE SEEMS PRETTY FREQUENT WITH THIS PARTICULAR YEAR AND MODEL. A WEAK OR POORLY DESIGNED BRAKE LINE SHOULD BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE MANUFACTURER. PROOF OF FAULT IS INDICATED IN GM'S DECISION TO CHANGE THE BRAKE LINES TO STAINLESS STEEL IN NEWER MODELS. IF NO RECALL IS ISSUED AT LEAST A WARNING SHOULD BE GIVEN TO CURRENT OWNERS!!! *TR

BRAKE LINES BLEW OUT FROM CORROSION. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES SINCE APRIL 2013. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP ON TWO SEPARATE RED LIGHT OCCASIONS. ALSO HAVING ABS PROBLEMS. THE ABS SYSTEM BREAKS LOOSE JUST ABOUT WHEN THE VEHICLE COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP FORCING ME TO LET GO AND REAPPLY BRAKE QUICKLY. MY TRUCK IS UNDERCOATED ALSO MAKING THIS DEADLY PROBLEM MORE CONCERNING. NHTSA SHOULD DO ITS JOB AND STOP THESE DEATH TRAPS. *TR

BRAKE LINE FAILURE. THIS IS MY VEHICLE'S THIRD BRAKE LINE FAILURE DUE TO RUST. ALL OF MY BRAKE LINES HAVE RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE NOT SAFE. THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS NOT SAFE. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR SUCH POOR MATERIALS. STAINLESS STEEL BRAKE LINES SHOULD HAVE BEEN USED! MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN REGULARLY WASHED DURING WINTER MONTHS OF SALT AND DEBRIS. FUEL LINES ARE NEAR FAILURE AS WELL. TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES ARE RUSTING AND LEAKING. OIL COOLING LINES ARE RUSTING AND SEEPING AS WELL. RUST HAS A MUCH HIGHER TENDENCY WHERE ANY OF THESE LINES ARE HELD IN PLACE BY THE PLASTIC CLIPS. (USUALLY LOCATED ALONG THE FRAME) IN ADDITION, RUST IS FORMING HEAVILY AT TRANSITIONS FOR ALL OF THE ABOVE LINES. FOR EXAMPLE: RUST IS HEAVY WHERE THE FUEL LINES HAVE CRIMPED HOSES ATTACHED. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. *TR

BRAKE LINE BUSTED WHILE BLEEDING AIR OUT OF SYSTEM. FOUND ALL LINES GOING TO ABS BLOCK IN CENTER OF TRUCK WERE RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH. THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED. AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP AT A STOP SIGN, I APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT THE TRUCK KEPT GOING. LATER ON I EXAMINED THE BRAKE LINE AND NOTICE THAT IT WAS CORRODED. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AND HE ADVISED ME THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE CORRODED. I CONTACTED GM, AND THEY HAD A DEALER LOOK AT THE BRAKE LINES AND CONFIRMED THAT THEY WERE CORRODED. THE CORROSION IS A LATENT DEFECT AND AS I LEARNED FROM YOUR WEBSITE AND OTHER BLOG, GM HAS A MAJOR DEFECT THAT THEY REFUSE TO REMEDY. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT SOME ONE MAY GET SERIOUSLY INJURED, BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE. I WAS FORTUNATE... THANK THE LORD!. *TR
I HAD JUST DRIVEN 15 MILES TO ON THE EXPRESSWAY, I STOPPED AT A STORE FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES. WHEN I WENT BACK TO THE TRUCK, I DIDN'T SEE THE FLUID UNDER IT, BUT GOT IN AND STARTED THE TRUCK. AT THAT TIME I WAS ACCELERATING SLOWLY TO PULL OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. ABOUT THAT TIME A PEDESTRIAN STEPPED OFF THE CURB IN FRONT OF ME. I HIT THE BREAK AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR! I MISSED THE PEDESTRIAN AND COASTED TO THE END OF THE PARKING LOT WHERE I TRIED TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BREAK, THAT ALSO FAILED! A CONCRETE CURB ALLOWED ME TO STOP THE VEHICLE WITHOUT INCIDENT. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO 2 GARAGES BEFORE I COULD FIND ONE TO REPAIR IT AT A COST OF JUST UNDER $900.00. *TR
I BACKED DOWN MY DRIVEWAY PROCEEDED DOWN PUDDING STREET TO GET ON TACONIC PARKWAY WHILE DRIVE DOWN SINGLE LINE ROAD APPROACHED A CURVE GOING DOWN A GRADE TRIED TO SLOW DOWN FROM 40 MPH PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR I PUT TRUCK IN LOW GEAR AND WAS ABLE TO STOP USING PARKING BRAKE WHILE HOLDING RELEASE HANDLE TO BRING TO STOP AT BOTTOM OF GRADE. CRAWLED UNDER TRUCK BRAKE RUSTED THRU UNDER DRIVER ARE LOCATION ATTACHED TO FRAME RAIL. *TR
