TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED AND EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ANY RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINE AND HOSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE TOOK THE VEHICLE FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE REAR FRAME WAS RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
WHILE EXITING FREEWAY, ON "OFF RAMP" REMOVED FOOT FROM GAS PEDAL TO START BRAKING AND PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. LITERALLY STOPPED TWO (2) FEET FROM REAR OF ALREADY STOPPED CAR. UPON UNDERNEATH INSPECTION FOUND LEAKING BRAKE FLUID AT REAR, SEVERELY CORRODED BRAKE LINE. *TR
RECENTLY TOOK CAR FOR BALANCING AND ROTATION AT NTB. THEY SAW OIL DIP WAS DRY AND WAS LOW OIL LEVEL. TOOK IT BACK TO SHOP WHO DID OIL CHANGE ONE MONTH AGO. THEY SAID OIL IS VAPORIZING. I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND HOW. TECH SHOWED ME BLACK SLUGGISH INSIDE TAIL PIPE SAYING THAT COULD BE BAD CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND IT COULD HAVE CAUSED BECAUSE OF OIL BURNING INSIDE EXHAUST. I RESEARCHED ONLINE ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND DID FIND OUT THAT ALL GM & CHEVY OWNER HAVING THIS ISSUE WITH V8 ENGINE ON ANY LITER. SHOP REPLACED KNOCK SENSOR TWICE BUT STILL SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR COST TO REPLACE BROKEN BOLTS ON MANIFOLD. I HOPE MANUFACTURE WILL FIX THIS ISSUE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO THAT CONSUMER DON'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH NOT PASSING STATE INSPECTION. *TR
WHILE PERFORMING AN OIL CHANGE I NOTICED SEVERE BRAKE LINE CORROSION. THE TRUCK WAS IMMEDIATELY TAKEN TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION AND IS NOW HAVING ALL BRAKE LINES REPLACED. THANKFULLY THE BRAKE LINES DID NOT FAIL WHILE I WAS DRIVING OR TOWING A TRAILER. I HAVE A 1989 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 THAT HASN'T HAD CORROSION PROBLEMS LIKE THIS NEWER ONE. AFTER SOME GOOGLING I FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION IN TO THIS MATTER AND THAT MANY OWNERS HAVE HAD THEIR BRAKES FAIL WHILE DRIVING. THE NHTSA NEEDS TO STEP UP AND HOLD GM ACCOUNTABLE. SURE, IT WILL BE AN EXPENSIVE RECALL BUT IF GM DOES THE RIGHT THING IT WILL SHOW THAT THEY CARE ABOUT THE SAFETY OF AMERICANS AND WILL MAKE MANY BRAND-LOYAL CUSTOMERS HAPPY. THIS MATTER IS VERY SERIOUS, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING WHAT THE MAJORITY OF THESE HD TRUCKS ARE USED FOR...HAULING, TOWING, ETC. *TR
ON FEB 21ST 2013 MY TRANSMISSION BROKE AND IT LOST 2ND, 4TH, AND REVERSE, BUT WAS STILL DRIVABLE. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THEY SAID IT WAS A WELL-KNOWN PROBLEM. AFTER DOING EXTENSIVE RESEARCH I FOUND THAT GM HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS WEAK SUN GEAR SHELL SINCE AT LEAST 1998. THE PROBLEM IS THAT GM DIDN'T REMOVE THE FAULTY PARTS FROM THEIR INVENTORY, ALTHOUGH THEY UPDATED THE PART SOMETIME IN2000 GM MIXED THE NEW PARTS IN WITH THE OLD SO THAT THEIR STATISTICS WOULD SHOW THAT NOT ALL 4L60E TRANSMISSIONS FAILED. TRANSMISSION REBUILDERS SAY YOU CAN ONLY TELL THE FAULTY SHELL FROM THE UPDATED VERSION BY THE SERIAL NUMBER INSIDE THE FAULTY SUN GEAR SHELL. MANY ENGINEERING ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN TRANSMISSIONS HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE PAST TWO DECADES WITH MATERIALS AND LUBRICANTS. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON FOR SUCH A MASSIVE GM TRANSMISSION FAILURE. WHAT MAKES IT SO BAD AFTER THE TEN DOLLAR PART FAILS GM CHARGES $3,000 FOR A REBUILT TRANSMISSION. IF THE FAULTY SUN GEAR SHELL WAS REPLACED BEFORE TOTAL FAILURE THE PRICE IS LESS THAN $1,000. I WATCHED AS MY TRANSMISSION WAS BEING REBUILT AND THERE WAS NO VISIBLE WEAR ON ANY OTHER PARTS. IT LOOKED LIKE BRAND NEW EXCEPT THIS FAULTY SUN GEAR SHELL. IF THIS PROBLEM IS SO WIDELY KNOWN FOR SO MANY YEARS THROUGHOUT THE INDUSTRY WHY WASNT THERE A FORCED RECALL? IF THERE WAS JUST ONE RELATED DEATH THE GOVERNMENT WOULD HAVE BEEN ALL OVER THIS, WHAT A SHAME. I FOR ONE WOULD LIKE SOME OF MY MONEY BACK, NOW KNOWING THAT GM FRAUDULENTLY COVERED UP THIS MASSIVE PROBLEM.
I WAS TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON CT. RTE. 8 AT APPROX 6AM AT 55 MILES PER HOUR. STATE MAINTENANCE VEHICLES HAD PARTIALLY OBSTRUCTED THE ROAD AS I ROUNDED THE BEND APPROACHING THE TRUMBULL TOWN LINE THIS IN TURN CAUSED AN ABRUPT HALT OF TRAFFIC. I APPLIED MY BRAKES RATHER HARD WHICH DID SLOW THE VEHICLE BUT I STILL HAD TO SWERVE INTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE IN ORDER TO AVOID A COLLISION WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. UPON INVESTIGATION I HAD FOUND THAT THE STEEL HARD LINE RUNNING ALONG THE FRAME RAIL FOR THE REAR BRAKES WAS BADLY CORRODED AND HAD BUST. THE REST OF THE STEEL LINES WHICH ALL RUN TO AND FROM THE ABS PUMP ARE ALSO IN BAD SHAPE. IT IS MY OPINION THESE LINES BE MADE FROM STAINLESS STEEL IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY. AFTER ALL THEY MAKE MOST MODERN EXHAUST IN STAINLESS AND THAT IS NOT AS IMPORTANT AS STOPPING YOUR VEHICLE!!! *TR
SERVICE BRAKES FAILED DUE TO CORRODED BRAKE LINE ABOVE REAR AXLE. PARK BRAKE FAILED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE REAR BRAKE DUSTSHIELD BEING CORRODED TO THE POINT IS WAS COMPLETELY GONE. THE LACK OF A DUST SHIELD ALLOWED THE PARK BRAKE SHOE AND LINKAGE CORRODE AND BECOME INOPERATIVE. *TR
TRAVELING DOWN HILL ON SNOW COVER ROADS AT ABOUT 40 MPH, THE LIGHT TURNED AND I HIT THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, THE REAR WHEELS STARTED SLIDING. I WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP IN TIME TO MAKE THE LIGHT, BUT WAS ABLE TO GET ON THE SHOULDER TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AND COME TO A STOP. AFTER INVESTIGATION I FOUND THE STEEL BRAKE LINES THAT WERE BADLY CORRODED HAD RUPTURED. *TR
BRAKE LINE FAILURE. COMING TO STOP LIGHT, BRAKES WENT OUT CAUSING ME TO RUN THE LIGHT ALMOST CAUSING MAJOR ACCIDENT. THIS HAPPENED IN FEB 2013. HAD BRAKE LINE REPAIRED. IN JUNE 2013 SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN / DIFFERENT BRAKE LINE. NEED TO REPLACE ALL BRAKE LINES. *TR
MY WIFE USED MY 2500 HD 4WD PICKUP TO GO TO WORK DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER. SHE CALLED ME WHILE DRIVING AND THOUGHT THE ROAD WAS ICY BECAUSE SHE THOUGHT SHE SLID THROUGH TWO BUSY INTERSECTIONS. I ASKED HER HOW FAST SHE WAS DRIVING AND SHE SAID NOT REAL FAST BUT THE TRUCK DID NOT STOP. I TOLD HER TO TAKE IT EASY AND APPROACH INTERSECTIONS SLOWLY. SHE MADE IT TO WORK AND HOME LATER THAT NIGHT (2ND SHIFT) SAFELY. THE NEXT MORNING I DROVE THE TRUCK TO WORK AND PROMPTLY DROVE RIGHT THROUGH A BUSY INTERSECTION NEAR HOME WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL ON THE FLOOR. WIFE DID NOT NOTICE PEDAL SINCE SHE IS ONLY 5'1" AND DIDN'T HAVE PEDAL TO FLOOR. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC EARLY IN THE MORNING OR RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. GOT TRUCK HOME AND DID A THOROUGH CHECK OF BRAKE SYSTEM. LINE FROM FRONT OF MASTER CYLINDER TO ABS MODULE ON FRAME RAIL WAS RUSTED THROUGH. OTHER LINES ALSO LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE DUG UP FROM DAVEY JONES LOCKER AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN. I'VE OWNED THIS TRUCK FROM NEW AND HAVE TAKEN GREAT CARE OF IT. MY 1968 CHEVELLE HAS BETTER LOOKING ORIGINAL BRAKE LINE ON IT. DON'T KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON BUT THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM, AND NOT JUST BRAKE LINES FROM WHAT I HAVE READ. GM NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS THROUGH A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED, IF IT DIDN'T HAPPEN ALREADY. I DID CALL DEALER I BOUGHT TRUCK FROM AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGED KNOWING THERE IS A PROBLEM, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE OTHER THAN FREE QUOTE TO REPAIR (WITH OEM STEEL LINES). I BOUGHT AN AFTERMARKET SET OF SS LINES FOR THE ENTIRE TRUCK AND HAVE INSTALLED BOTH MASTER CYLINDER LINES SO FAR. WAITING FOR WARM WEATHER FOR THE REST....HOPE ANOTHER DOESN'T FAIL IN THE MEANTIME ! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THE ENGINE MODEL 4.8 IS DEFECTIVE AND AS A RESULT WILL CONSTANTLY LOSE COOLANT DUE TO THE CRACKED MOTOR HEAD. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY REPAIRED THE HEAD GASKET OF THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURE WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT UNWILLING TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 THROUGH A PARKING LOT AND ANOTHER VEHICLE BACKED OUT WITHOUT LOOKING. I HIT MY BRAKES TO STOP AND I HEARD A LITTLE POP AND MY PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY I HIT THE PARKING BRAKE WHICH STOPPED ME WHICH KEPT ME FROM HITTING THE CAR THAT PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME. I DROVE MY VEHICLE HOME USING THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP WHEN NEEDED. AFTER LOCATING THE LEAK, I NOTICED ALL THE LINES WERE SO BADLY CORRODED, I'M GOING TO HAVE TO REPLACE ALL LINES TO GET THE RIGHT ONE. I HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A SHOP BECAUSE EACH LINE HAS TO BE BENT IN SPECIFIC SPOTS. WHY GM DOESN'T SELL PRE BENT LINES IS UNBELIEVABLE. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE JOB COSTING ME @ $950 WHICH IS ABSURD. I COULD DO IT MYSELF IF I WAS ABLE TO GET THE ACTUAL PARTS NEEDED. I GUESS GM WILL STILL FIND A WAY TO GET MORE MONEY FROM YOU EVEN AFTER YOU BUY ONE OF THEIR OVER PRICED VEHICLES...! I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY FRONT RUNNING LIGHTS. THERE IS ALWAYS ONE BURNT OUT ON THE FRONT. I HAVE REPLACED THEM SEVERAL TIMES, CHECK TO MAKE SURE THE RIGHT FUSE IS BEING USED, BUT EVERYTIME ONE BURNS OUT. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED NOW THAT ABOUT EVERY GM SUV OR TRUCK I SEE GOING DOWN THE ROAD ALSO HAS A RUNNING LIGHT BURNT OUT..THIS SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY ISSUE THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD HAVE TO ADDRESS.. *TR
2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE FUEL INJECTORS SAFETY RECALL. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE REQUIRED HAVING THE FUEL INJECTORS REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED TWICE UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED FOR THE MANUFACTURER CONTINUE TO REPAIR THE INJECTORS UNDER THE WARRANTY. *JS
BRAKES FAILED ,PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR; MAIN LINE FROM MASTER CYLINDER SPRUNG A LEAK,NOTICED ALL LINES NEAR DRIVERS SIDE INNER FENDER RUSTY , HAD WIFE PUMP BRAKES; BRAKE FLUID SPRAYED. I REPLACED MAIN LINES TO DISTRIBUTION BLOCK AND ONE FRONT LINE. CALLED DEALER HE SAID THEY NEW OF THIS PROBLEM AND TOLD ME TO CHECK REAR LINE GOING OVER GAS TANK. I WILL REPLACE IT SOON . ANY OF THESE TRUCKS STILL ON THE ROAD NEED TO BE REPAIRED .I'VE DRIVEN THIS TRUCK SINCE IT WAS NEW. *TR
LOST SUDDEN BRAKE PRESSURE. HAVE NO WARNING LIGHT. FOUND A POOL OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER MIDDLE OF TRUCK BED THIS MORNING. A BRAKE LINE APPEARS TO HAVE RUPTURED ABOVE THE GAS TANK. I HAVE READ OF NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. THANK GOD I DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM AT HOME AND DID NOT CONTINUE TO DRIVE THIS MORNING. *TR
DURING AN UNEXPECTED STOP SITUATION, MY BRAKES STOPPED WORKING NORMALLY. THE ABS SYSTEM WAS GOING ON AND OFF. MY PICK UP WOULD NOT STOP. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IN THE ONCOMING LANE AVOIDING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AND THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY REPAIR SHOP AND THE TECHNICIAN SHOWED ME THAT THE BRAKELINES WERE RUSTING OUT AND IN TWO SPOTS THE LINES HAD RUPTURED, PROBABLY DURING THE EVENT DESCRIBED ABOVE. BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE LINES IN TWO SPOTS. *TR
TOOK TRUCK IN FOR STATE INSPECTION, TRUCK FAILED INSPECTION DUE TO RUSTED BRAKE LINES, POWER STEERING PUMP LEAKING , DEALER SAID IT WOULD BE $1228.43 TO $1420.99 TO JUST FIXED THE BRAKE LINES ALL LINES NEEDED REPLACED AND CALIPERS SCREWS. POWER STEERING PUMP COST 535.00 TO REPLACE. POOR QUALITY ,HIGH COST TO FIX AND LACK OF SAFETY ON GM PART FOR NOT COVERING RUBBER COATING OR USING STAINLESS STEEL LINES TO PROTECT OUR FAMILY VERY DISCOURAGED WITH SERVICE TECH SAID THESE ARE THE PRICES. WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR SAFETY. BRAKE LINES AND GAS LINES SHOULD NOT BE MADE OF STEEL THAT CAN CORRODE AND RUST OUT AND BREAK. POWER STEERING PUMP WITH THESE FEW MILES SHOULD NOT HAVE GONE OUT. MY 1988 CHEVY TRUCK NEVER HAD THESE PROBLEMS. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. *TR

TRUCK FAILED ANNUAL MAINE SAFETY INSPECTION BECAUSE OF MAJOR CORROSION ON ALL BRAKE LINES RUN ALONG FRAME UNDERNEATH. (THE LINES ARE NOT YET LEAKING, BUT FAILURE IS IMMINENT AND VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.) COST OF REPAIRS IS ESTIMATED TO BE APPROXIMATELY $1400.00 BY SULLIVAN TIRE OF SCARBOROUGH MAINE. *TR
WHILE WAITING IN LINE AT HARDEES DRIVE THRU,THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WALL TO THE FLOOR. UPON INSPECTING THE TRUCK I FOUND ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES UNDERNEATH HAD RUSTED AND ONE FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD RUSTED ALL THE WAY THRU. I REPLACED THIS LINE WITH A CARBON COATED STEEL THAT COST ONLY $8.99. HOWEVER I DO FEEL PRETTY FORTUNATE BECAUSE WE WERE HEADED UPON A MOUNTAIN GOING DEER HUNTING. I REALLY DON'T WANT TO THINK ABOUT WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF WE WERE COMIN OFF "HIGH KNOB" AND THIS LINE HAD BLOWN. I ALSO THINK GM IS VERY LUCKY THAT SOMEONE HASN'T GOTTEN SERIOUSY HURT OR KILLED YET BUT I THINK IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNLESS THEY RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES WITH A BETTER GRADE OF STEEL OR A COATED STEEL TO PROTECT THEM FROM CORROSION. ALSO I READ SOME OF GM RESPONSE TO THIS ISSUE AND I WOULD LIKE TO REPLY TO THEM THAT ONCE A LINE IS BLOWN BEING FRONT OR BACK THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AND ONCE THE FLUID IS GONE YOU HAVE NOTHING BUT THE PARK BRAKE, IF YOU CAN ACTUALLY THINK ABOUT IT DURING ALL THE PANIC OF PUMPIN THE BRAKE PEDAL TRYING TO GET A VEHICLE TO STOP. THIS REALLY IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND THESE VEHICLES NEED TO BE RECALLED AND ALL THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED. *TR
WHILE STOPPING; BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND WAS BARELY ABLE TO STOP VEHICLE. IF I HAD BEEN DIVING @ HIGHWAY SPEED I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP AND WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A BAD ACCIDENT. AFTER GETTING OUT OF VEHICLE, FOUND BRAKE FLUID LEAKING ON GROUND UNDER VEHICLE THAT WAS COMING FROM ABOVE LEFT FRAME MEMBER JUST TO REAR OF FIREWALL @ LOCATION WERE BRAKE LINES ALL COME TOGETHER. THERE WAS A LINE OF BRAKE FLUID ON PAVEMENT THE ENTIRE DISTANCE THAT I HAD BEEN TRYING TO STOP. BRAKE LINES APPEARED TO BE RUSTED THRU ALSO OBSERVED THAT FUEL LINES BADLY RUSTED ALSO. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLET TRUCKS AND THAT GM HAS MADE A KIT TO REPAIR PROBLEM. THIS IS SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW THAT GM SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL AND FIX @ THEIR EXPENSE. THERE SHOULD BE AN IMMEDIATE SAFETY RECALL TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GET SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. *TR
WAS UNDER THE TRUCK FEW DAYS AGO AND NOTICED THE BRAKE LINE TO THE REAR OF THE TRUCK IS SERIOUSLY CORRODED, UPON FURTHER INSPECTION OF BRAKE LINES, NOTICED THAT ALMOST ALL THE STEEL BRAKE LINES ON THE PICKUP ARE SERIOUSLY CORRODED AND A FEW UNDER THE CAB CONNECTING TO THE ABS MODULE ARE BEGINNING TO LEAK, THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AND WILL NOT DRIVE THE TRUCK TILL I HAVE THE TIME AND MONEY TO REPLACE THEM, HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A REPLACEMENT PART NUMBER FOR THEM FROM GM, HOWEVER CLASSIC TUBE INDUSTRIES MAKES A STAINLESS STEEL SET THAT I WILL BE PURCHASING WHEN THE FUNDS ALLOW, TILL THAT HAPPENS THE PICKUP WILL NOT LEAVE THE DRIVEWAY AS IT IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN, OTHER THEN THE BRAKE LINES I ALSO FOUND THE ENTIRE CHASSIS TO BE RUSTED BADLY FOR A 10 YEAR OLD VEHICLE!! *TR
AS I APPROACHED A TRAFFIC LIGHT AT 30 MPH AND ATTEMPTED TO STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO WARNING. I HAD TO VIGOROUSLY PUMP IT SEVERAL TIME TO COME TO A STOP AND WAS LUCKY I WAS GOING SLOWLY AND THERE WERE NO STOPPED CARS AHEAD OF ME. NO WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED ON THE DASH AND STILL DO NOT IF YOU START THE TRUCK. I WAS CLOSE TO HOME AND CAREFULLY MANAGED TO GET TO MY DRIVEWAY. A LARGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID DRIPPED FROM THE DRIVER SIDE BENEATH THE DOOR. WHEN I INSPECTED IT FROM BELOW, I FOUND THE BRAKE LINES SEVERELY CORRODED WHERE CLIPPED TO THE FRAME AND ONE HAD BURST THROUGH, CAUSING THE LEAK AND LOSS OF STOPPING ABILITY. *TR
CATASTROPHIC FRONT BRAKE FAILURE ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. NO ACCIDENT OR INJURIES, BUT REPAIRS INCLUDED BRAKE LINES, CALIPERS AND PADS DUE TO CORROSION OF SAID LINES AND CALIPER ASSEMBLIES. SHOP SAID THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE FOR GM PRODUCTS REGARDLESS OF AGE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
I WAS REPLACING LEFT FRONT BRAKE CALIPER AND STARTED TO BLEED THE BRAKES WHEN BRAKE PEDDLE KEPT GOING ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I THEN LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND UNDER DRIVER SIDE DOOR WAS A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID. I FOUND OUT IT WAS COMING FROM THE BRAKE LINES THAT GO TO THE ABS CONTROLLER. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATING BRAKE LINES THEY ARE ALL RUSTED BAD,I HAVE OWN THIS TRUCK SINCE NEW CANT BELIEVE I HAVE TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES ON IT NOW. *TR

THIS VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING AN ISSUE WITH THE ABS MODULE IN WHICH AT SLOW BRAKING SPEEDS THE BRAKES WILL NOT STOP THE VEHICLE CORRECTLY. THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED PRIOR TO THIS DATE FOR OVER 800,000 SILVERADO TRUCKS INCLUDING THE YEARS 99-2002 FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE. I CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP AND I WAS INFORMED THAT MY TRUCK IS NOT COVERED BY THIS RECALL EVEN THOUGH IT IS DEMONSTRATING THE EXACT SYMPTOMS DESCRIBED IN THE NATIONAL RECALL BY GM. *TR
SERVER CORROSION OF THE BRAKE LINES CAUSED A UNEXPECTED BRAKE LINE FAILURE WITH NO PRIOR WARNING. LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID CAUSED A TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKING, NO WARNING LIGHTS WHERE DISPLAYED ON THE DASH TO LET YOU KNOW OF A POTENTIAL BRAKE FAILURE THAT WAS HAPPENING. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2002 SILVERADO ON A NARROW TWO LANE ROAD WITH A FEW STEEP GRADES AND MY BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR ON ONE OF THE DOWN GRADES. I PUMPED THE BRAKES BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. LUCKILY, I HAD ENOUGH TIME TO REACT AND USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO GET STOPPED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE GRADE BEFORE RUNNING THROUGH THE STOP SIGN AT THE T INTERSECTION AND POSSIBLY OVER THE EMBANKMENT DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM ME. ONCE I GOT HOME I REALIZED THAT ALL THE LINES RUNNING ALONG THE FRAME TO THE ABS BOX WERE CORRODED AS WELL AS THE ONES GOING TO THE FRONT CALIPERS. ONCE I STARTED RESEARCHING THIS I FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM. ALSO, ONE THAT JUST ABOUT EVERONE THAT I KNOW WITH A SILVERADO AROUND THAT SAME YEAR HAS HAD. BRAKE FAILED COMING INTO HOME'S DRIVEWAY WHICH RESULTED IN CRASH WITH MINOR DAMAGE. INSPECTION SHOWED THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. *TR
WHILE APPROACHING THE BACK OF ANOTHER VEHICLE WHILE IT WAS TAKING A LEFT HAND TURN, I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND HAD NONE, THE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I COULD NOT STOP. I DOWN SHIFTED THE TRUCK INTO LOW GEAR WHICH IS WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE I WAS TOLD THE BRAKES ARE ROTTED AND LINE RUPTURED. I UNDERSTAND THERE ARE A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE LINES ON THESE VEHICLES AND SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THEM. SURELY THEY ARE MADE OF INFERIOR MATERIALS BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM IS NOT HAPPENING WITH OTHER TRUCKS MODELS LIKE FORD, DODGE, OR TUNDRA. TRUCK IS NOW AT STEVE'S ACCURATE AUTO REPAIR, MADBURY NH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE BRAKES FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS ONLY ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AS THE SPEED DECREASED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HIS LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO STATED THE BRAKE FLUID LEAKED OUT AND THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY COVERED WITH RUST. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. BRAKE LINE RUPTURED FROM SMALL SPOT. CAUSED BY CORROSION. BREAKS BECAME SOFT PEDAL PUSHED TO FLOOR. LINE WAS IN THE FRONT OF TRUCK . ALL LINES ARE FOUND TO BE IN POOR CONDITION RELATED TO RUST ON ENTIRE TRUCK. *TR
I TOOK MY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 IN TO GET INSPECTED. IT FAILED DUE TO NO PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKES. I HAVE NEVER USED MY PARKING BRAKE, NEVER BEEN IN THE WHERE IT WAS NEEDED. I FIRST NOTICED AFTER REMOVING WHEEL THAT EVERYTHING IS RUSTED BEYOND WHAT I THINK IT SHOULD BE AT THIS POINT, THE SPLASH SHIELDS ARE ALMOST COMPLETELY GONE. I REMOVED THE DRUM AND BRAKE SHOES AND NOTICED THAT ON BOTH SETS OF SHOES, LEFT AND RIGHT, THE PADS OF THE SHOES WERE NOT REALLY WORN, BUT THE ACTUAL LINING THAT THE SHOES ARE ATTACHED TO WERE WORN AT THE VERY BOTTOM ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND THE VERY TOP ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, BOTH WHERE THERE ARE NO PADS. I FOLLOWED THE DIRECTIONS THAT CAME WITH THE NEW SHOES, REPLACED EVERYTHING, AND STILL NO BRAKES. I THEN BOUGHT A NEW CABLE AND SWAPPED IT OUT, THINKING THE CABLE MAY BE STRETCHED. STILL NO BRAKES. I REMOVED THE WHEEL AND DRUM ONCE AGAIN AND HAD SOMEONE DEPRESS THE PARKING BRAKE. I NOTICED THE ACTUATOR WORKING, SO I REASSEMBLED EVERYTHING, AND STILL NO BRAKES. I THEN CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOT. I WAS TOLD THAT I CAN TAKE MY TRUCK TO A CERTIFIED CHEVY DEALER FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, AT MY EXPENSE, BEING THAT I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT IN OVER 3 1/2 YEARS, I CAN NOT AFFORD THIS. I WAS TOLD THERE IS NOTHING FURTHER THAT CAN BE DONE TO HELP ME. I HAVE LESS THAN 2 WEEKS FOR MY TRUCK TO PASS INSPECTION, IF NOT, THEN I MUST PAY FINES AND COSTS WHEN I DO REREGISTER MY VEHICLE. HOW DO I GET MY VEHICLE TO PASS INSPECTION WHEN THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT IN THEIR DESIGN. I'M HITTING A BRICK WALL EVERYWHERE I TURN. WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS AND PROBLEMS THAT I SEE BEING POSTED ONLINE, HOW COULD THERE NOT BE A RECALL. WHAT HAS TO HAPPEN FOR THEM TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
THE PART OF THE FRAME THAT HOLDS UP THE GAS TANK AND CONNECTS TO THE SHOCK HAS ROTTED AWAY. I HAD TO REPLACE BOTH REAR LEAF SPRING SHACKLES DO TO RUST AS WELL AS THE LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE. THE REAR OF THE TRUCK IS RUSTING AWAY. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP, THERE IS A KNOCK IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT I HAVE HAD FIXED ONCE ALREADY, THE ENGINE HAS TICKING SOUND WHEN IDLING, AND THE A/C COMPRESSOR IS BROKEN. *TR
BRAKES FAILED DUE TO BURST LINE TO REAR AXLE; LITTLE OR NO STOPPING POWER FROM FRONT BRAKES; EMERGENCY BRAKE WORKED FOR A FEW MINUTES BUT NO LONGER AFTER COUPLE OF MILES TO MY DRIVEWAY. DISASSEMBLY REVEALED E-BRAKE PADS HAD CRUMBLED AWAY INSIDE REAR ROTORS; AND ALL 5 BRAKE LINES COMING OUT OF ABS UNIT WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED, NOT JUST REAR. FYI I HAVE OWNED IN EXCESS OF 20 G.M. TRUCKS, BUT NONE EVER AS BAD AS THIS ON BRAKE LINES. DAUGHTER IN TRUCK WITH ME- THIS COULD HAVE TURNED OUT VERY BADLY. TRUCK UNUSABLE UNTIL ALL LINES ARE FIXED- VERY DIFFICULT DUE TO POSITIONING OF LINES ( I HAVE DONE MANY BRAKE LINES- ON MUCH OLDER TRUCKS). THANKS... *TR

I HAPPENED TO BE PULLING INTO A SERVICE STATION WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT LINE COMPLETELY BLEW OUT, SPRAYING BRAKE FLUID EVERYWHERE. I WAS LUCKY. THE BRAKES ARE COMPLETELY NONFUNCTIONAL. ALL OTHER STEEL BRAKE AND FUEL LINES IN TRUCK HEAVILY RUSTED AND ALSO NEAR BLOW OUT POINT. *TR WHEN REAR LINE FAILED, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND STOPPING DISTANCE DOUBLED. I WAS PULLING A 3,000LBS BOAT AT THE TIME. THE BRAKE WARNING LAMP DID NOT ILLUMINATE. BRAKE WARNING LAMP CAME ON ONLY AFTER APPROX 10 MILES OF NO REAR BRAKE AVAILABILITY. I AM CURRENTLY TAKING PREVENTIVE MEASURES AND REPLACING ALL STEEL LINES IN TRUCK. OLD LINES AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION IF YOU ACT QUICKLY.

SAW BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND AND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD SAW A BURST BRAKELINE ABOVE THE LEFT WHEEL. I WAS OUT OF STATE HAD TO BE TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY. NOTICED ALL THE BRAKE LINES BADLY RUSTED AND OPTED TO REPLACE ALL OF THEM AT A COST OF $1100. THANKFULLY THIS DID NOT OCCUR ON THE HIGHWAY THAT I HAD JUST EXITED AT SPEEDS OF 70MPH! *TR

I WAS ATTEMPTING TO STOP FOR TRAFFIC AHEAD, I APPLIED THE BRAKES WHICH INITIALLY SLOWED THE TRUCK BUT THEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I WAS UNABLE TO STOP MY TRUCK AND HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK TO FIND BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING FROM THE BRAKE LINES THAT RUN ALONG THE FRAME RAIL AT THE DRIVERS DOOR. ALL THE BRAKE LINES WHERE SEVERELY RUSTED AND I HAD TO HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED TO A REPAIR CENTER TO HAVE THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED. I DON'T UNDERSTAND GM'S LOGIC OF USING A STAINLESS STEEL DRIVE SHAFT AND EXHAUST SYSTEMS, BUT USE LESSER MATERIAL FOR SOMETHING AS IMPORTANT AS THE BRAKELINES. A RECALL IS CLEARLY IN ORDER. *TR
