MY SON WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK TO COLLEGE AND PULLED INTO THE PARKING GARAGE AND WHEN LOOKING FOR A SPACE TO PARK THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. HE WAS ABLE TO KEEP GOING LONG ENOUGH FOR THE VEHICLE TO COAST INTO A PARKING SPOT BUT THE BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY OUT. G.M. STATES THAT THE SALT THAT THEY TREAT THE ROADS WITH ALONG WITH THE WEATHER CAUSED THE LINES TO RUST OUT. IF THAT WAS THE CASE THAT WOULD BE HAPPENING TO ALOT MORE VEHICLES. I THINK THERE IS DEFINITELY A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE LINES THAT WERE INSTALLED ON THESE VEHICLES. *TR
AUG. 1,2012 RIGHT FRONT LINES BURST. NOV.15,2012 LEFT FRONT BRAKE LINES BURST. SHOP RECOMMENDED THAT ALL BRAKE LINES CORRODED AND NEEDED REPLACED. ESTIMATED $1600 TO 1800 PER RACETRACK AUTO BERLIN MARYLAND. I HAVE ALREADY PAID $200 FOR THE RIGHT BRAKE LINE AND EXPECT APPROX THE SAME BILL FOR THE LEFT CORRODED LINE. PLEASE HELP, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE! *TR
WHEN BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY WENT TO STOP AND PEDDLE WENT TO FLOOR,BLOWING BRAKE FLUID ALL OVER ROAD.I HAVE READ MANY ARTICLES ON THIS PROBLEM,WITH CHEVY PRODUCTS.THANK HEAVENS I WAS NOT DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THIS HAPPENED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED AN INACCURATE READING OF 80 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING INTO MY DRIVEWAY WHEN I TRIED TO STOP THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ENTIRELY TO THE FLOOR. THE TRUCK SEEMED AS THOUGH IT WAS GONNA HIT MY GARAGE. THANKFULLY I HAVE GOOD REFLEXES AND WAS ABLE TO HIT THE PARKING BRAKE (WHICH ISN'T AN EASY TASK IN A P/U TRUCK. WHEN I GOT OUT, I NOTICED A LARGE LEAK UNDER MY DRIVER DOOR. WITH FURTHER INVESTIGATION I FOUND THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. ONE OF THEM HAD SPRUNG A LEAK AND WAS SPRAYING BRAKE FLUID EVERYWHERE. THE OVER ALL STATE OF THE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM IS IN HORRIBLE CONDITION. I HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME BEFORE IN MY '93 CHEVY TRUCK... BUT ITS EXPECTED AT TWICE THE AGE OF MY '03 TRUCK. I SAW THE NHTSA HAD AN INVESTIGATION THAT WAS ABOUT EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME AND WANTED TO REPORT IT. *TR
BRAKE LINES HAD EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF CORROSION/RUSTED CAUSING A LEAK(S). LINES GOING FROM THE ABS MODULE TO THE FRONT BRAKES WERE FOUND TO BE LEAKING. LINES GOING FROM THE ABS SYSTEM TO THE RESERVOIR WERE ALSO RUSTED AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. LINES FROM THE ABS SYSTEM TO THE REAR BRAKES BEGAN LEAKING A WEEK LATER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINES FAILED TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE FRONT BRAKE LINES FAILING. THE CONTACT HAD TO HAVE THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM REPLACED DUE TO RUST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN, BUT THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 132,000. UPDATED 01/02/2013*LJ THE CONSUMER RETURNED FROM A 125 MILE TRIP, AFTER THAT DAY THE FAILURE OCCURED. THE CONSUMER BACKED THE TRUCK DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE ENGINE MALFUNCTIONS. *SMD AN INSPECTION REVEALED THE DIFFERENTIAL FLUID HAD DROPPED FROM THE TRANSFER CASE, WHICH IN TURN SEIZED UP. THE TRANSFER CASE WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $ 2,033.87. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A SLIGHT GRINDING NOISE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN A FEW EARLIER. HOWEVER, HE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, BUT FOUND NOTHING WRONG. *JB
STARTING TO MERGE ONTO THE INTERSTATE NEAR PEORIA, IL, I LOOKED DOWN AND THE SPEEDOMETER WAS READING 95 MPH. I LOOKED AT MY GPS AND IT READ 54 MPH. WITHOUT TAKING MY EYES OFF THE NORMAL VIEWING SCOPE, I NOW HAVE NO IDEA HOW FAST I AM GOING. THIS ALSO SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH SILVERADOS. *TR
BRAKE PERFORMANCE WAS POOR, BUT BRAKES DID WORK BEFORE SERVICING THE SYSTEM. REPLACED ROTORS, PADS, CALIPERS ON ALL FOUR WHEELS. BRAKES BLED SUCCESSFULLY. WAS BEGINNING A TEST DRIVE OF THE VEHICLE AND WHEN PUTTING IN REVERSE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH DASH WARNING OF BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE. BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. INSPECTED AND FOUND ABS UNIT TO REAR BRAKE LINE FAILED DUE TO CORROSION AND LINE FROM ABS UNIT TO RIGHT FRONT FAILED DUE TO CORROSION. INSPECTED LINES MORE CAREFULLY AND FOUND MULTIPLE AREAS OF CORROSION ON ALL LINES THAT APPEARED TO BE IN IMMINENT DANGER OF FAILING. CORROSION SEEMED TO BE PRIMARILY WHERE LINES WERE PLACED IN PLASTIC CLIPS TO HOLD THEM IN PLACE. THE COMPLETE SYSTEM FAILURE WAS NOT PRECEDED BY ANY WARNING AND RESULTED IN TOTAL LOSS OF FRONT AND REAR BRAKES SIMULTANEOUSLY. FORTUNATELY VEHICLE WAS IN THE REPAIR BAY AND NOT MOVING AT THE TIME OF FAILURE. *TR
MY INSTRUMENT PANEL IS DRAINING THE POWER CAUSING PROBLEMS WITH THE LIGHTS THERE IS A CLICKING SOUND AND LIGHT DIMMING WHEN THE TRUCK IS RUNNING. I WAS TOLD THE CHANGE THE IGNITION SWITCH WHICH WAS DONE BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP WITH THE PROBLEM. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. *TR
FAILURE OF THE BRAKES DUE TO RUSTED BRAKE LINES GOING TO THE ABS UNIT. UPON INSPECTION ALL BRAKE LINES WERE BADLY RUSTED AND WERE REPLACED. *TR
(*AFFECTED PART - IT DOESN'T LET ME TO TYPE IPC - INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) FUEL NEEDLE IS NOT OPERATING - COMPLETELY. BATTERY VOLTAGE NEEDLE - IS NOT OPERATING - COMPLETELY. SPEEDOMETER IS STICKING. LIGHTS AT DASHBOARD ARE DIM, TAKES COUPLE MINUTES TO GET BACK TO NORMAL. GM IS AWARE OF DEFECTIVE PRODUCT (IPC - INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) THAT WAS INSTALLED ON ALL 2003 AND 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO, BUT IS REFUSING TO CORRECT A PROBLEM. THEY ISSUED ONLY SHORT TERM "SPECIAL COVERAGE", WHICH EXPIRED IN 04/2010, WITHOUT EVEN NOTIFYING ALL OF OWNERS ABOUT DEFECT, SO - GOD FORBID - THEY WON'T GO TO DEALERSHIP AND HAVE IT REPLACED AT THAT TIME. IT'S A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, AND GM SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CORRECTING IT. I AM DRIVING NOT KNOWING HOW MUCH GASOLINE IS IN MY TANK, IS MY BATTERY VOLTAGE OK OR REALLY HAS PROBLEM, WHAT IS MY SPEED AND IF IT COMPLIES WITH SPEED LIMIT, AND AT NIGHT I EVEN DON'T SEE DASHBOARD INFO. GM SAYS - "IT'S YOUR PROBLEM, NOT OUR. TAKE CARE OF IT ON YOUR OWN". I PURCHASED VEHICLE IN GOOD FAITH THAT ALL PARTS ARE IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION. IN REALITY THAT WAS NOT A CASE. GM INSTALLED DEFECTIVE PARTS ON THEIR VEHICLE AND SHOULD CARRY FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR REPLACING THEM WITH GOOD ONES. *TR
BRAKE LINES ARE ALL RUSTED AS ARE FUEL LINES, BRAKE LINE DEVELOPED LEAK AFTER HARD STOP, PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR, REPAIR SHOP IS NOW REPLACING BRAKE LINES. *TR
CAME TO A STOP BUT THE PEDAL FELT SOFT, WENT TWO MORE MILES TO MY DESTINATION AND BRAKES FELT EVEN SOFTER. WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE I NOTICED A PUDDLE UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR, I PUT SOME ON MY FINGER TO SMELL IT AND KNEW IT WAS BRAKE FLUID. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAID IT WAS A BLOWN BRAKE LINE CAUSED BY RUST, HE SAID HE HAS SEEN THIS ON ALOT OF SILVERADOS. I CALLED MY CHEVY DEALER AND THEY DIDN'T OFFER ANY RECALLS OR DISCOUNTS SO I HAD MY MECHANIC REPLACES ALL THE BRAKE LINES BECAUSE THEY WERE RUSTED AS BAD AS THE BLOWN LINE , ALSO HAD TO REPLACE TWO CALIPERS BECAUSE THE BLEEDERS WERE SO RUSTED THEY COULDN'T BE REMOVED. TOTAL COST 850.00 I'VE HAD ALOT OF TRUCKS WITH ALOT MORE MILES AND NEVER HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE LINES. I THINK G.M. SHOULD REIMBURSE AT LEAST 50 % OF THE COST. *TR
SUDDEN BRAKE FAILURE AS APPROACHING TRAFFIC LIGHT. PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO DOWNSHIFT AND PULL INTO EMPTY LANE. HAD TRUCK TOWED TO MECHANIC. BRAKE LINE WAS SO BADLY CORRODED IT BROKE AND ALL BRAKE FLUID HAD BEEN LOST. ALL BRAKE LINES HAVE TO BE REPLACED. BRAKE ROTORS ARE SO RUSTED THEY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. PASSENGER SIDE REAR BRAKE SO BADLY RUSTED ENTIRE BRAKE ASSEMBLY AND ROTOR HAS TO BE REPLACED. ESTIMATE $1500.00. I HATE TO THINK WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED IF I WAS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND HAD TO BRAKE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2003 SILVERADO ON THE LOCAL HIGHWAY PULLING MY 7 X 14 TRAILER IN TRAFFIC AND WENT TO APPLY THE FOOT BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO SIGNS OF ANYTHING WRONG, TRIED TO PUMP THE PEDAL AND NOTHING WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO HELP OF STOPPING, THE ONLY THING THAT KEPT ME FROM A CRASH WAS THE TRAILER BRAKES AND THE E-BRAKE OF THE TRUCK. I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID AND BOTH FRONT AND REAR WERE EMPTY, I STARTED TO LOOK UNDER THE TRUCK AND SAW WERE THE FLUID WAS DRIPPING FROM THE RUSTED THRU BRAKE LINES AND DOWN THE FRAME RAILS, NOW WITH NO BRAKES AND PULLING A TRAILER I HAD TO CALL A WRECKER AND HAVE THE TRUCK AND TRAILER TOWED 35 MILE TO MY MECHANIC AND REPLACE 4 RUSTED BRAKE LINES THAT RUN UNDER THE TRUCK, MINE RUSTED THRU ALMOST RIGHT UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR.. *TR

THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND AN APPOINTMENT WAS SECURED FOR THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 109,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO AVOID BEING CRASHED INTO BY ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE BRAKES BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAD BURST, CAUSING A LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED. AS A RESULT, WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD ABNORMALLY TRAVEL TO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED ONCE PRIOR TO THE MOST RECENT FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 135,000.
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT, THE TRUCK STARTED TO SLOWDOWN IN A NORMAL FASHION. JUST BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL PROCEEDED TO THE FLOORBOARD. AT THAT MOMENT, AND NOT BEFORE, A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND A SYSTEM MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED SAYING TO SERVICE THE BRAKE SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE ROLLED TO A STOP WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP TO REPAIR A HOLE FOUND IN A RUSTED BRAKE LINE. *TR
BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR WITH NO RESISTANCE OR SLOWING THE VEHICLE. NO WARNING LIGHTS UNTIL BRAKES FAILED. 3 BRAKE LINES REPLACED DUE TO BEING RUSTED OUT @~$1700. 11 MONTHS LATER SECOND FAILURE EXITING A HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH, AGAIN NO WARNINGS UNTIL BRAKES FAILED, ~$350 REPAIR FOR ADDITIONAL BRAKE LINE REPAIRS. 10 MONTHS LATER, SUDDEN TRAFFIC SLOW DOWN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, NO WARNINGS UNTIL AFTER BRAKE FAILURE. ~$180 REPAIR FOR YET ANOTHER SECTION OF BRAKE LINES AND VERY CLOSE ACCIDENT. IN ALL 3 CASES THIS WAS COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE WITH BRAKE PEDAL GOING ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITH NO RESISTANCE OR ABILITY TO SLOW LET ALONE STOP THE VEHICLE. *TR
I CAME OUT TO VEH IN MORNING AND BRAKE WARNING/SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT WAS ON AND LOOKS LIKE MY LINE FROM REAR TO FRONT IS RUSTED AND WHERE BRAKE LINE MEET TO SPLIT TO EACH REAR WHEEL IS RUSTED AND WET W/FLUID. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND DEPRESSED THE BRAKES TO STOP AND PULL INTO MY DRIVE WAY THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKES DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE MADE CONTACT WITH MY GARAGE DOOR AND IT WAS DAMAGED IN THE INCIDENT. THIS INCIDENT IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE TO ME. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS PRIOR TO FAILURE. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A SHOP AND THE LINES ARE RUSTED THROUGH. *TR
I WAS DRIVING 45 MPH COMING UP TO A STOP LIGHT I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THEY FELT FINE THEN ALL THE SUDDEN THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I DIDN'T HAVE ANY BRAKES WHAT'S SO EVER. I TRIED APPLYING THE BRAKES AGAIN AND THEY WENT TO THERE FLOOR AGAIN AND WAS NOT STOPPING. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE STOPPED BY DOWN SHIFTING THE TRUCK AND APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE BRAKE LINE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE BACK BRAKES WHERE THE MAIN LINE COMING FROM THE ABS GO TO THE CONNECTIONS ON THE BACK BRAKE. THE HOLE WAS TWO INCHES ABOVE THE CONNECTION. THE BRAKE LINE RUSTED OUT AND A HOLE STARTED. AFTER LOOKING AT THE BRAKE LINES THEY ALL APPEAR TO BE RUSTING. THIS COULD OF CAUSED A BAD ACCIDENT OR EVEN SOMEONE'S LIFE. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM AND CHEVY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR

AS THE BRAKE WAS BEING DEPRESSED, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD CAUSING BRAKE FLUIDS TO LEAK OUT. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED WHO STATED THERE WAS NO RECALL AND HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
HIT BRAKES AND A LINE BLEW ALMOST HIT CAR INFRONT OF ME. LIKE ALL GM TRUCKS IN SNOW COUNTRY MY BRAKE LINES RUSTED THRU ALONG WITH MY REAR BACKING PLATES RUSTING OFF. GM DEALERS ALL KNOW ABOUT THIS BUT NOTHING IS EVER DONE. I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO BE KILLED FROM BLOWN BRAKE LINES FOR THEM TO DO ANYTHING. I GUESS ALOT SINCE THEY HELD OFF TEN YEARS ON THERE CURRENT PROBLEM. I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY WHEN ACOUPLE OF PEOPLE GET HURT OR DIE AND YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A PROBLEM IT ISN'T DELT WITH. THE CONTACT WAS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, WHO REPLACED THE FOUR BRAKE LINES, WHICH RUPTURED DUE TO RUST CORROSION. THE FAILURE RECURRED SHORTLY AFTER THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. TO START OFF, MY BRAKE LINE ARE SEVERELY CORRODED AS THE WAS A NEW ENGLAND TRUCK FOR THE FIRST 8 YEARS OF ITS LIFE. AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT, I WENT TO DRIVE MY TRUCK YESTERDAY. UPON STARTING IT, I RECEIVED THE MESSAGE "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM" ON THE DRIVER INFORMATION SCREEN. I ALSO NOTICED THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS ON AND THAT THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WENT UNDER THE HOOD AND NOTICED THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER WAS EMPTY AND SEVERAL OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE WET WITH BRAKE FLUID. I HAD JUST CHECKED MY BRAKE FLUID (WITH ALL OF MY OTHER FLUIDS THIS WEEK AS I WAS ON A CAMPING TRIP WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I LOOKED THIS UP ON THE INTERNET WHEN I GOT HOME AND FOUND NHTSA ACTION NUMBER DP10003 THAT DISCUSSED THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE. PLEASE ADVISE ON THE STATUS OF THIS INVESTIGATION. THANK YOU. *TR
I WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES TO STOP FOR A RED LIGHT, BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD NO STOPPING POWER. AFTER THIS HAPPENED THEN A NOTIFICATION CAME ACROSS MY DASH TO HAVE BRAKE SYSTEM CHECKED. BUT THERE WAS NO WARNING OF THE FAILURE BEFORE AND NOW THERE IS NO INDICATION FROM THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING. THE CONTACT TOWED THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR AN INSPECTION. THE DEALER STATED THE ALUMINUM BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. I WAS LEAVING MY SONS SOCCER GAME AND DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT AROUND 25MPH. AS SOON AS I WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON ALARMS WERE GOING OFF, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM MESSAGE CAME ACROSS THE ODOMETER. FORTUNATELY THE SOCCER FIELD IS CLOSE TO HOME. UPON ARRIVING AT HOME I NOTICED FLUID DRIPPING STEADILY FROM THE LEFT REAR. *TR
WAS ATTEMPTING TO BACK VEHICLE AND CAMPER TRAILER DOWN INCLINED DRIVEWAY WHEN SUDDENLY THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD ABSOLUTE MINIMUM BRAKING FORCE. WAS ABLE TO STOP VEHICLE BEFORE IT AND TRAILER WENT OVER THE HILL, (AN APPROXIMATE 15 - 20 FOOT DROP IF IT HAD OCCURRED). UPON INSPECTION I FOUND BRAKE FLUID ON THE DRIVEWAY. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I DISCOVERED THAT A BRAKE LINE LEADING FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS CONTROLLER WAS LEAKING. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I FOUND THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED AND READY TO FAIL. I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW MUCH RUST IS PRESENT ON THE BRAKE LINES AND THE FUEL LINES. THIS APPEARS TO BE A MAJOR ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. *TR
WHILE BEING SERVICED, MY MECHANIC OBSERVED SIGNIFICANT RUST ON FUEL LINES, TRANSMISSION AND BRAKE LINES UNDERNEATH MY TRUCK, AS WELL AS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. LINES ARE NOT LEAKING AS OF THE DATE OF THIS REPORT. *TR

BRAKE LINE FAILURE DUE TO CORROSION. 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD WITH 70,100 MILES MY 15 YEAR OLD WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT AT A SHOPPING CENTER WITH HIS DAD IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. HE ATTEMPTED TO STOP AND VEHICLE BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. NO DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND NO KNOWN CAUSE AT THE TIME. SUBSEQUENT FAILURE LOCATED AT LEFT FRONT WHEEL WELL AS CORRODED BRAKE LINES COMING ALONG CHASIS FROM BRAKE VALVE BODY MASTER CYLINDER. NO WARNING LIGHTS OF ANY KIND ON DASHBOARD. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT HIGHWAY SPEED (65MPH) AND THE FRONT RIGHT STEEL BRAKE LINE BURST AND I LOST MOST OF MY BRAKE FLUID. UPON LOOKING UNDER THE TRUCK FOR THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM, I NOTICED THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES AND TWO OF THE FUEL LINES WERE BADLY CORRODED. I TOW TRAILERS OFTEN AND I'M THANKFUL I WASN'T TOWING OUR 11,000LB 5TH WHEEN CAMPER WHEN THIS HAPPENED OR THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A HORRIFIC CRASH! I HAVE DONE QUITE A BIT OF RESEARCH AND NOTICED THAT THERE ARE QUITE A FEW COMPLIANTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM FOR THIS MODEL YEAR PICKUP. IS THERE A RECALL AND HOW DO I GO ABOUT GETTING THIS FIXED? TRUCK WAS PULLING PARTIALLY LOADED TRAILER ENTERED CURVE IN ROAD GOING DOWNHILL & WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR WITH OBVIOUSLY NO REAR BREAKS,TRUCK NOSEDIVED WHEN APPLIED AT BOTTOM OF PEDAL, TRUCK & TRAILER STARTED TO JACKNIFE HAD TO GET OFF BRAKES AND STEER MY WAY OUT OF TROUBLE & APPLY ONLY LIGHTLY UNTIL ENTERING STRAIGHT SECTION OF ROAD. THIS MADE FOR AN EXTREMELY INTENSE RIDE DOWN THE HILL. ANY HAIRPIN TURNS OR STOPPED TRAFFIC IN FRONT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. STOPPED & PULLED OFF ROAD TO SEE WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND BRAKE FLUID WAS RUNNING ALL OVER THE BOTTOM OF THE DRIVERS SIDE FRAME RAIL. CLOSER INSPECTION REVEALS OBVIOUS BURST BRAKE LINE BUT WITHOUT REMOVING INNER FENDER OR WIRING HARNESS I CAN NOT ACTUALLY SEE THE RUPTURE AND IT MAY BE CONCEALED BY THE CLIPS ATTACHING THE LINE TO THE FRAME. ODDLY THE LINES HAVE SOME RUST BUT NOTHING WHICH LOOKS LIKE IT IS SO SEVERE TO HAVE ALLOWED A RUPTURE. THE ATTACHING HARDWARE MAY BE ALLOWING SOME MOVEMENT IN THE LINES ALLOWING ADDITIONAL RUST TO TAKE HOLD. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW IN 2003 IN OCTOBER I THINK AND ONE THING ABOUT IT THAT WAS DIFFERENT THAN THE TWO PREVIOUS NEW CHEVY TRUCKS I BOUGHT WAS THE REAR BRAKES NEVER SEEMED TO APPLY AS HARD AS THEY SHOULD AND NOTHING EVEN CLOSE AS THE 2000 TAHOE OR THE 1994 SILVERADO. SINCE THE BRAKE LINES SEEM TO BURST IN FRONT OF THE ABS SYSTEM IT COULD BE THAT THE ABS SYSTEM IS PARTIALLY BLOCKING THE FLOW CREATING A HIGHER THAN NORMAL LINE PRESSURE BETWEEN THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE ABS SYSTEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. NO BRAKES. UPON INSPECTION 4 OF THE 6 BRAKE LINES HAD CORRODED AND FAILED. FAILURE WAS DIRECTLY BELOW MASTER CYLINDER WHERE MINIMAL BRAKE FLUID LEFT WAS BUBBLING OUT. BRAKE LINES WERE OEM AND NOT PROTECTED. ALL BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED BY CUSTOM MADE LINES AT A COST OF OVER $800 PLUS TOWING. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO LT MANUFACTURED IN NOV 2002, FOR THE PAST YR AND A HALF THE TRUCK HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP NUMEROUS TIMES FOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, MY OUTSIDE TEMP AND DIRECTION INDICATOR LOCATED ON THE REAR VIEW, THE HEATED SEATS, THE REMOTE ENTRY HAVE ALL STOPPED WORKING AND SOMETIMES THE STEREO WILL COME ON AND WORK PROPERLY BUT WITH NO SOUND, CONSTANTLY HAVING TO GET A JUMP START BECAUSE THE BATTERY WAS DRAINED WHILE PARKED. I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY TWICE. AFTER TALKING TO SEVERAL DIFFERENT TECHNICIANS AT DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS I FOUND OUT THAT THOSE ITEMS I JUST LISTED ARE CONTROLLED BY THE BODY CONTROL MODULE OR (BCM). ALSO THAT IT WILL DRAW POWER OFF OF THE BATTERY. THAT IS THE SAME PROBLEM RECALLED ON THE OTHER GM VEHICLES, WHY IS THE RECALL NOT BEING ADDED TO THE CHEVY TRUCKS AS WELL. MY TRUCK WAS MANUFACTURED VERY CLOSE TO THE SAME TIME AS THE MALIBU'S AND OTHER GM VEHICLES THAT ARE BEING RECALLED AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF MY VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PART. *TR
I WAS PULLING OUT OF A CONVENIENCE STORE PARKING LOT WHEN MY BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. THE TRUCK IMMEDIATELY STARTED SHOWING BRAKE FAILURE WARNINGS. I COASTED TO A LOCAL MECHANICS AND MY BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED OUT. I HAD TO HAVE THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM REWIRED WITH NON-CORROSIVE MATERIAL. HE TOLD ME THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE ON THESE VEHICLES. *TR

THE VEHICLE STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY, BUT THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED, BUT NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 195,000.
WITHOUT WARNING, I WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT WITH CARS IN FRONT OF ME. I APPLIED MY BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR, AND I REAR ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I LATER DISCOVERED THAT MY BRAKE LINE IN THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED!! *TR
I PARKED MY TRUCK AT A RESTAURANT PARKING LOT NO PROBLEM. WE FINISHED EATING, STARTED TRUCK, PUSHED ON BRAKE TO PUT IN REVERSE AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, NO BRAKES OR RESISTANCE. INSPECTION REVEALED NO SIGNS OF LEAKS. LINES WERE EXTREMELY RUSTED AND EVENTUALLY A SMALL LEAK WAS FOUND IN THE FRONT DRIVER WHEEL WELL AREA. UPON RESEARCH THIS IS AN EXTREMELY KNOWN ISSUE. AS A CHEVY OWNER I WAS NEVER CONTACTED ABOUT THIS ISSUE. LUCKILY NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED BUT IT EASILY COULD HAVE AS WE WERE ON OUR WAY HOME ABOUT 30 MILES ON A 65 MPH HIGHWAY. PLEASE ADVISE AS TO WHAT REMEDIES ARE BEING OFFERED. THIS COULD BE A DEADLY PROBLEM. THANKS. *TR
VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY DECREASE POWER AND THE MESSAGE "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" SHOWS ON MESSAGE DISPLAY. FIRST TIME WAS 9/8/2012. LAST TIME WAS FEB 24, 2015. HAS DONE THIS AT 25 MPH ON A CITY STREET, 35 MPH CITY STREET TWICE, AND 55 MPH ON HIGHWAY. SUPPOSEDLY REPAIRED THREE TIMES.
