LUCKILY, NO CARS/PEOPLE WERE IN FRONT OF TRUCK WHEN BRAKE LINES BURST AND GREATLY REDUCED BRAKING POWER/INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. *KB
2003 CHEVY SILVERADO - I HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE SPEEDOMETER FLUCTUATING AND OIL PRESSURE GAUGE GOING ALL THE WAY UP AND ALL THE WAY DOWN. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT CHEVY HAD A "SPECIAL POLICY" WHICH INTELS "THIS SPECIAL COVERAGE COVERS THE CONDITION DESCRIBED ABOVE FOR A PERIOD OF 7 YEARS OR 70,000 MILES (110,000 KM), WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST, FROM THE DATE THE VEHICLE WAS ORIGINALLY PLACED IN SERVICE, REGARDLESS OF OWNERSHIP". I HAVE DONE LOTS OF RESEARCH AND THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE "INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER GAUGE NEEDLE FUNCTION" IN A LOT OF CHEVY'S. THAT BEING STATED WHY WOULD THERE NOT BE A RECALL ON ALL?? I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS TRUCK FOR AROUND 2 YEARS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM UNTIL NOW. THE "SPECIAL POLICY" STATED "CUSTOMERS ARE BEING INSTRUCTED TO CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP TO ARRANGE AN APPOINTMENT IF THEY BELIEVE THEIR VEHICLE HAS THIS CONDITION". SO THE PEOPLE THAT ARE NOW HAVING THE PROBLEM AFTER THIS "SPECIAL POLICY' RUNS OUT ARE HAVING TO PAY AROUND $385.00 ON THERE OWN TO FIX CHEVY'S PROBLEM WHICH I THINK IS UNFAIR. FROM WHAT I WAS TOLD BY ONE OF THE CHEVY DEALERSHIPS THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM THEY ARE HAVING. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!! *TR
2003 SILVERADO 2500HD BRAKE LINE FAILURE DO TO CORROSION IN LINES FROM MASTER CYLINDER TO REAR BRAKES. THIS HAPPENED UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. *TR
THE TRUCK SUDDENLY STOPPED WHILE BACKING UP IN MY DRIVEWAY. I STOPPED SO SUDDENLY THAT I THOUGHT I HIT SOMETHING. I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK AND DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING AROUND THE WHEELS OR TRUCK. I GOT BACK IN THE TRUCK, STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ANY RESISTANCE. I HEARD A SQUEEZING SOUND AND SAW FLUID SQUIRTING FROM BENEATH THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. THE STEEL BRAKE LINE ON TOP OF THE TRUCK FRAME WAS RUSTED AND DEVELOPED A HOLE FROM WHICH THE BRAKE FLUID SQUIRTED. THERE IS SECOND STEEL BRAKE LINE ON TOP OF THE THE FAILED LINE, WHICH IS ALSO RUSTED. THE BRAKES HAVE COMPLETELY FAILED. MY LAST VEHICLE HAD OVER 135,000 MILES AND THE BRAKE LINES WERE IN GREAT CONDITION.
BRAKE FAILURE, 2003 CHEVROLET SIVERADO 1500 LS Z71. I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, WENT TO STOP AT INTERSECTION,BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO STEER OFF THE ROADWAY IN TO A GRASSY AREA TO STOP THE VEHICLE. NO PRIOR BRAKE PROBLEMS. VEHILCE ONLY HAS APPROX, 55000 MILES. ONCE STOPPED OBSERVED LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. BRAKE LINE FOUND TO BE RUSTED THROUGH AND HAD BURST, OTHER BRAKE LINES ALSO HAVE HEAVY RUST AND APPEAR TO BE READY TO BREAK. VEHICLE NOT REPAIRED YET,SINCE FAILURE JUST OCCURED THIS DATE 8/8/11. CHECKED ON LINE FOR POSSIBLE RECALLS AND TSB FOR BRAKE LINE FAILURE / SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. FOUND OTHER COMPLAINTS. FELT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO REPORT MY INCIDENT ALSO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH IN RAINY CONDITIONS, HE APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT THE PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD UNTIL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED HOME, WHERE THE CONTACT EXAMINED IT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE RESERVOIR WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. WHILE ADDING BRAKE FLUID TO THE RESERVOIR, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING OUT OF THE BRAKE LINES, WHICH WERE FRACTURED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 171,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD UPON ENGAGEMENT AND FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UNTIL AFTER THE PARKING BRAKE WAS ENGAGED WHICH RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE STOPPING. THE CONTACT WAS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A TEMPORARY REPAIR ON THE VEHICLE AND RESUMED OPERATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,967.
MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD EXPERIENCED A MAJOR BRAKE LINE FAILURE DUE TO CORRODED/RUSTED LINES. WHILE MAKING A HARD STOP IN TRAFFIC THE LINE RUPTURED, PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AND FLUID LEAKED OUT OF THE BRAKE LINE DIRECTLY UNDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CAB. MY BRAKE LINES NEED TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED, AS THEY ARE ALL EXHIBITING HEAVY RUST DAMAGE. I KNOW THERE IS AN ACTIVE NHTSA INVESTIGATION INTO THIS SPECIFIC MODEL AND YEAR FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR, NO (SLOW) STOPPING. THIS IS THE THIRD OCCURRENCE OF BRAKE LINE FAILURE. THE BRAKES HAVE NEVER BEEN QUICK ON THIS VEHICLE, BUT THIS IS THE 3RD TIME I HAVE HAD A FAILURE DUE TO BRAKE LINE BLOW OUT. THE VEHICLE IS GARAGED AND CLEANED ON A REGULAR BASIS. THESE LINES JUST SEEM TO KEEP RUSTING OUT. *TR
LOST POWER TO ENGINE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. FAULT ON DASH SHOWED (REDUCED ENGINE POWER). PULLED TO SHOULDER OF HIGHWAY AND TRIED TO RESTART ENGINE TO NO AVAIL. AFTER SITTING FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES ENGINE STARTED AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON FOR A FEW DAYS. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR AND HAVE STILL BEEN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS. IT WILL SOMETIMES DRIVE FOR A FEW DAYS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM, BUT SOME DAYS IT WILL OCCUR 10 OR MORE TIMES IN A DAY. I HAVE BEEN ON SEVERAL WEBSITES ONLY TO SEE SEVERAL PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM EVEN ON DIFFERENT MODELS AND YEAR VEHICLE'S. THIS COULD AND MAY WELL HAVE CAUSED DEATHLY AUTO ACCIDENTS. I HAVE LOOKED FOR A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM AND COULD NOT FIND ONE. MY QUESTION IS, "ARE THERE ANY PLANS TO RECALL EFFECTED VEHICLES FOR THE ISSUE OF "REDUCED ENGINE POWER?" ON EXCEPTIONALLY WARM DAYS AND THE VEHICLE IS IN NORMAL OPERATING TEMP. THE VEHICLE FUEL SYSTEM WILL LOOSE ITS PRIME WHILE PARKED FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START DUE TO THE FUEL SYSTEM LOSING ITS PRIME. DURING THE TIME WHILE PUSHING DOWN ON THE PRIMER PLUNGER, DESIEL FUEL LEAKS AROUND THE PLUNGER MAKING PRIMING THE FUEL SYSTEM DIFFICULT. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO PRIME THE FUEL SYSTEM, THE VEHICLE WILL EVENTUALLY START. AGAIN, THIS HAPPENS ON WARM TO HOT DAYS AND AFTER THE VEHICLE SITS FOR LESS THAN AN HOUR OR SO. ONCE THE VEHICLE IS PRIMED AND FINALLY STARTED, THE VEHICLE WILL RUN NORMALLY. THIS ONLY HAPPENS AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN PARKED FOR A PERIOD OF LESS/MORE THAN AN HOUR. *TR
2003 SILVERADO 1500 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL ALL GAUGES WENT OUT. *TR
MY WIFE AND I OWN A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z-71. THE CAR IS 8 YEARS OLD WITH ONLY 17,714 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. IT HAS BEEN PARKED OUTSIDE ON MY ASPHALT DRIVE WAY. THE VEHICLE LOOKS TO BE IN PERFECT CONDITION. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A NON-GENERAL MOTORS REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE THE BRAKES LOOKED AT. AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN HOISTED UP AND INSPECTED, I WAS ASKED TO LOOK AT THE AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE FRAME, DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING, BRAKES, CALIPERS, ETC. THE RUST WAS SO BAD THAT IT WAS LITERALLY FLAKING OFF THE FRAME AND DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING. THE MECHANIC WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE. ON JULY 22, 2011, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP (SULLIVANS O'NEILL'S CHEVROLET AND BUICK, INC. IN AVON, CT) THAT I HAD PURCHASED THE TRUCK FROM. I WAS ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE THE TRUCK A LOT AS IT WAS, IN THE SERVICE MANAGER'S OPINION, UNSAFE. THE SERVICE MANAGER GAVE ME A CUSTOMER SERVICE PHONE NUMBER FOR GM. I CALLED THE NUMBER, SET UP A CASE FILE NUMBER AND WAITED TO HEAR A RESPONSE TO MY COMPLAINT. NONE OF THE 3 PEOPLE WHO WERE PUT ON THE CASE WOULD EVEN GIVE ME THEIR LAST NAMES. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF, ON AUGUST 2, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM "MARIA" WHO INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT GM WOULD DO FOR ME. IT WAS BEYOND THE WARRANTY, ETC. I ASKED FOR A WRITTEN RESPONSE OF THEIR POSITION AND WAS REFUSED. WE ARE NOW LEFT WITH AN OTHERWISE PERFECTLY GOOD TRUCK THAT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THERE WAS ENOUGH PRIOR WORK PERFORMED ON THE TRUCK BY THE DEALER THAT THE SEVERE RUSTING SHOULD HAVE BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM HAVING DINNER WITH FRIENDS. LUCKILY FOR ME AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD IT WAS A LATE SATURDAY EVENING DURING A BEAUTIFUL FLORIDA SUMMER. I WAS DRIVING ON ULMERTON RD WHICH IS A 4 LANE RD IN PINELLAS COUNTY. I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 45 MPH AND THE LIGHT TURNED RED. I STARTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES PRETTY SOFTLY AS THE LIGHT WAS SOME DISTANCE AWAY. ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES ON THE DASH STARTED GOING OFF. I REALIZED I HAVE NO BRAKES. I START TO PANIC AND THEN DECIDE I BETTER TRY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AS I DO NOT WANT TO RUN THE RED LIGHT AND GET INTO A POSSIBLE ACCIDENT. I MUST EMPHASIZE THE ANGER I FELT AT THIS MOMENT AS MY WIFE USUALLY DRIVES THIS TRUCK AND THERE IS NO WAY SHE WOULD HAVE THOUGHT TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHICH IS RATHER DIFFICULT TO USE IN THE FIRST PLACE IN THIS TRUCK AS IT IS UP AND TO THE LEFT A GOOD WAYS. I USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. APPLYING THE BRAKE AND THEN PULLING THE RELEASE WHICH IS NOT AN EASY TASK TO DO. MY BRAKE LINES WERE SO RUSTED THEY EXPLODED DOING 45 MPH. THIS TRUCK WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW BY MY FATHER AND WAS GIVEN TO ME WHEN HE PASSED AWAY. HE HAD FREE CAR WASHES AT THE DEALERSHIP HE BOUGHT IT FROM AND HAD THE TRUCK WASHED CONSTANTLY. I AM FURIOUS THAT THIS $30,000+ VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY RUSTING ON THE UNDERCARRIAGE. IN MY OPINION GM SOLD US A LEMON. THEY CHOSE TO PUT PROFIT BEFORE THE SAFETY OF ITS CUSTOMERS AND IF MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THIS VEHICLE DURING RUSH HOUR AS THIS VEHICLE IS USED FOR DAILY DRIVING TO AND FROM WORK COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR WORSE KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS NOT TO MENTION THE SAFETY OF ANY INNOCENT PEOPLE IN HER WAY. THIS REPORT IS BEING REPORTED 2 YEARS AFTER THE INCIDENT BECAUSE I DID NOT KNOW THIS SITE EXISTED AND I JUST SAW THE SAME COMPLAINT ON A FORUM WHICH MENTIONED THIS SITE. *TR
BRAKE FAILURE ON MY 2003 SILVERADO WITH 66000 MILES DUE TOO RUSTED BRAKE LINES. CHEVY DEALER DOESN'T HAVE PARTS(PRE-BENT BRAKE LINES) AND GAVE ME A PRICE OF 2500 BUCKS CAUSE THEY HAVE TO BEND EACH LINE BY HAND. I BABY THIS TRUCK. IT STILL SMELLS LIKE A NEW CAR AND WAS DEALER SERVICED ALL ITS LIFE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M GONNA DO. THIS AIN'T RITE. LOOKED UNDER MY FRIENDS 2002 AND HIS LOOKS JUST AS BAD. I WAS DRIVING HWY 19W TOWARD BURNSVILLE, N.C. A CAR PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME, I APPLIED THE BRAKES, AND THEY WERE EXTREMELY SOFT. I RAN OFF THE ROAD AND FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. I WAS WITHIN 1/4 MILE OF A GARAGE AND I SLOWLY DROVE THE TRUCK TO IT. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE REAR BRAKE LINES AND ADVISED THAT I HAVE THEM ALL REPLACED AS THEY HAD ALL RUSTED OUT. THE FUEL LINES RUSTED IN TWO IN 2013. THE CAB STARTED RUSTING IN 2008, AND NOW HAS HOLES FROM FRONT TO BACK INCLUDING BUMPERS FROM RUST. THE CAB MOUNTS HAVE ALSO RUSTED. *TR
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE BRAKE LINES BROKE WHILE DRIVING. FIRST TIME HAD TO STOP SUDDEN ALMOST HIT CAR IN FRONT OF ME,REPLACED ONE LINE, NO REPLACEMENT LINES AVAILABLE AT THE TIME . SECOND TIME WAS THIS MORNING 12/6/11 PUT BRAKES ON TO AVOID ANIMAL DIFFERENT LINE RUPTURED . GETTING TIRED OF IT . THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL OR AT LEAST A PLACE I COULD GET REPLACEMENT LINES. FURTHERMORE THE VEHICLE IS GARAGED OVERNIGHT IN THE WINTER ,VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN NEAR SALT WATER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE BATTERY NO CHARGE LAMP WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE BUT STATED THAT THE JUNCTION BOX FED BY THE POSITIVE BATTERY CALBE WAS MELTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,000. UPDATED 08/31/11 *BF UPDATED 10/31/11
AT SPEEDS AT OR BELOW 10 MPH THE ABS COMES ON IN ALL TYPES OF WEATHER CAUSING LONGER STOPPING DISTANCES ALLOWING THE TRUCK TO GO INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC OR HITTING THE CAR AHEAD. THE PEDAL GOES ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. *TR
WHILE IDLING AT A RED LIGHT THE SMELL OF EXHAUST FUMES BECAME PREVALENT INSIDE THE PASSENGER CABIN. UPON INSPECTION OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IT WAS DETERMINED 5 OF THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS HAD PREMATURELY FAILED ALLOWING EXHAUST GAS TO ESCAPE FROM THE ENGINE INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND INTO THE PASSENGER CABIN. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY USED SPARINGLY WHERE FAMILY MEMBERS OR FRIENDS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO RIDE IN THE TRUCK UNTIL THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS ARE REPAIRED. *TR
HVAC SYSTEM SUDDENLY STARTED BLOWING HOT AIR WHILE ON AC POSITION. THE ONLY WAY IT COULD BE STOPPED WAS TO STOP THE TRUCK, SHUT OFF ENGINE & RE-START ENGINE. *TR
THE PAINT IS PEELING OFF IN BIG SPOTS. THE TRUCK IS ALWAYS CLEAN AND WAXED. THE PAINT IS NOT STICKING TO THE PRIMER. HAVE HEARD OF OTHER GM TRUCK OWNERS SAYING THE SAME THING. JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME TROUBLE. LOVE MY TRUCK BUT IT LOOKS RAGGED OUT. *TR
2003 CHEVY SILERADO TAILGATE POPS OPEN, HARD TO CLOSE AND HAS BEEN FIXED 3 TIMES. THIS IS AN ACCIENDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN BECAUSE CARGO CAN FALL OUT OF THE BED. I SPOKE WITH OTHERS AND THEY HAVE REPORTED THE SAME. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 171,000.
SLOWING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT I NOTICED THE PEDAL DEPRESSING MORE THAN NORMAL. AT LIGHT THE PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR OF THE CAR, BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. UNSAFE RIDE HOME WITH ALMOST ZERO BRAKING. LEFT FRONT BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTED OUT. *TR
FULL BRAKE FAILURE. PEDAL TO FLOOR WHEN TRYING TO STOP. LUCKILY NO ACCIDENT, WAS ABLE TO CONTROL AND STOP VEHICLE DUE TO LOW SPEED. CORROSION ON HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINE. *TR
THE BRAKE LINES ON THIS VEHICLE HAVE RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING THE BRAKE FLUID TO DRAIN OUT AND MAKE THE BRAKES INOPERATIVE. THE BRAKE LINES ARE CONSTRUCTED OF STEEL TUBING, THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN STAINLESS STEEL TO AVOID RUSTING. THE MANUFACTURER CLAIMS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I TOTALLY DISAGREE. THESE LINES SHOULD HAVE LASTED MUCH LONGER. I HAVE OWNED MANY CARS WHICH HAVE BEEN MANY YEARS OLDER AND HAVE HAD MORE THAN TWICE THE NUMBER OF MILES ON THEM. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING BEFORE. *KB
