DRIVING APROX. 45 MPH ,CAME TO A RED LIGHT AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. DID HAVE ENOUGH BRAKES TO DRIVE TO A SAFE SPOT ,ON A SIDE ROAD.LOOKED UNDER TRUCK AND BRAKE FLUID WAS DRIPPING ON THE GROUND . CRAWLED UNDER THE TRUCK TO FIND BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THRU. TOOK VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC FOR REPAIRS.THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION .
TRYING TO STOP RUSTED BRAKE LINE BLEW AVOIDED ACCIDENT BY USING PARKING BRAKE
BRAKE LINES CORROSION AND LEAKING
CAME OUT OF A STORE AT A SHOPPING MALL AND NOTICED A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND. A BRAKE LINE BETWEEN THE FUEL TANK AND TRUCK BED HAS RUPTURED CAUSING AN ALMOST COMPLETE LOSS OF FLUID.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS USED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING ABOVE THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINE OVER THE FUEL TANK RUPTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL PULLED TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT AND THE VEHICLE SWERVED AFTER DRIVING OVER A BUMP. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE AND THE TWO CONTROL ARMS WERE REPLACED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000. UPDATED 12/23/16*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE WIRING HARNESS FOR HEATER NUMBER 4 SETTING BLEW OUT. THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL ODOR. UPDATED 01/04/17.*JB
HOPPED INTO MY VEHICLE FRIDAY MORNING AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. REAR BRAKE LINE RUSTED AWAY. FORTUNATELY IT HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE DAY BEFORE I WAS PULLING MY BOAT ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH. THERE'S A SCARY THOUGHT. BTW, VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN OPERATED DURING THE WINTER MONTHS THE PAST THREE YEARS.

THE CONTACT WAS AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 07E106000 (WHEELS). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR HUB ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LINDSAY CHEVROLET (5605 JEFFERSON DAVIS HWY, WOODBRIDGE, VA 22191, (571) 200-4754) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A FRACTURED BRAKE LINE AND THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT REPAIRED A PORTION OF THE BRAKE LINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, BUT DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,799.
NO WARNING!!!(SOFT BRAKES OR DASHBOARD LIGHTS), TRUCK BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED IN TRAFFIC! AFTER STOP LIGHT, IN SLOW MOVING TRAFFIC. SILVERADO CRASHED INTO SMALL CAR AND THEN, THAT CAR INTO ANOTHER. NO INJURIES, MINOR DAMAGE. I LOVED THIS TRUCK. I HAVE A FOLDER AN INCH THICK ON THIS VEHICLE'S MAINTENANCE! NEVER HAS IT'S SERVICE BEEN IGNORED! CHEVY SHOULD BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF BRAKE SYSTEM. I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE RIDICULOUSLY CHEAP PARTS USED. MADE IN USA, CHEVY TOUGH!!!! WHAT A BAD JOKE!
THE BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES LEAKED AND WERE REPLACED DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION. THE FRONT BRAKES FAILED WHILE DRIVING. THE GAS LINE LEAKED IN MY DRIVEWAY.
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON A LOCAL HIGHWAY WHEN HE NEEDED TO BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN FOR A VEHICLE WHO TURNED ON UP AHEAD WHEN THE BRAKE LINE BLEW. PEDAL IMMEDIATELY WENT SOFT. HE BARELY AVOIDED COLLISION AND HAD TO PULL OFF INTO A NEARBY CHURCH PARKING LOT. NOW WE ARE OUT THE EXPENSE OF HAVING THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED. THE RUST ISSUE, WHICH HAS BEEN COMPLAINED ABOUT IN ALL OF THE OTHERS, IS THE SAME HERE THAT LED TO THIS. THOUGH IT HAS HIGH MILEAGE, THE TRUCK HAS BEEN VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF AS IT IS A REGENCY EDITION SILVERADO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST OVER TO AN EMERGENCY LANE. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY FRONT BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR A DIAGNOSED AND THE STATED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES AND POSSIBLY THE ABS MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,038.
CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. CONTACTED STATED WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED IN A PANIC SITUATION AND THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR BOARD. *BF
CONTACT OWN A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO, WHILEDRIVING ATAPPROXIMATED 55 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDALWAS DEPRESSED IN A PANIC SIITUATION AND THE PEDALWENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR BOARD. 8BF
MY BRAKES FAILED COMING BACK FROM A 356 MILE TRIP. I WAS BACKING UP MY BOAT INTO THE GARAGE WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED. LUCKILY I STEPPED ON THE PARKING BRAKE AND WAS ABLE TO STOP WITHOUT HITTING SOMETHING. I THINK I AM REALLY LUCKY THE FAILURE DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE EXPRESSWAY OR WHEN MY WIFE WAS DRIVING. THERE LOOKS LIKE 4 BRAKE LINES RUNNING FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER DOWN UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE TO THE ANTILOCK BRAKE UNIT. ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES IN THIS BUNCH BELOW THE DRIVER SEAT FAILED. I WAS SUPPRESSED TO SEE HOW CORODED ALL THE BRAKE LINE ARE. THIS SEEMS TO ME TO BE A REAL SAFETY ISSUE. LOOKING ON THE WEB THIS LOOKS LIKE AN ISSUE THE MANY PEOPLE HAVE ENCOUNTERED. IT ALSO APPEARS THAT GM IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAS DONE NOTHING.
THE GAUGE CLUSTER IS ALWAYS DRAWING POWER. BATTERY GOES DEAD IF I DO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICAL FOR ONE DAY.
THIS IS THE SECOND OF THREE FATAL COLLISIONS INVESTIGATED THIS YEAR BY MY OFFICE INVOLVING CHEVROLET PICKUPS THAT CAUGHT FIRE AFTER BEING INVOLVED IN FRONTAL COLLISIONS. THIS WAS AN OFF SET HEAD ON, PASSENGER SIDE TO PASSENGER SIDE. PASSENGER IN PICKUP WAS PINNED IN VEHICLE DUE TO CRUSH AND CONSUMED BY FIRE.
BRAKE LINE BURST AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. AT ONLY 15 MPH I HAD SOME STOPPING POWER BY PUMPING BRAKE PEDAL AND GOT THE TRUCK STOPPED. THANKFULLY, I HAVE A VERY LONG DRIVEWAY AND WAS STILL ON MY PROPERTY. I WAS PULLING A HEAVY TRAILER AND DO NOT WANT TO IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED WITH TRAFFIC AND AT A GREATER SPEED. I INSPECTED THE BRAKE LINES AND NOTICED THEY WERE ALL BADLY CORRODED. I AM HAVING ALL BRAKE LINES REPLACED TOMORROW. I SEE NO RECALL NOTICE AND HAVE SINCE READ ABOUT OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM 66 YEARS OLD AND HAVE HAD ONE BRAKE LINE FAILURE MANY YEARS AGO ON A 1963 PLYMOUTH WITH VERY HIGH MILEAGE. THIS TRUCK HAS JUST OVER 50 THOUSAND MILES. I WAS SHOCKED AT THE CONDITION OF THESE BRAKE LINES. WITHOUT COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE LINES I DO NOT CONSIDER THIS VEHICLE SAFE TO DRIVE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL CONNECTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,289.
I WAS GETTING READY TO LEAVE WORK AND AS I ROLLED TOWARDS THE STOP SIGN I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE BUT THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I ROLLED THROUGH THE STOP SIGN AND INTO THE NEXT LANE, FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES AT THE TIME. WHEN I EXITED THE VEHICLE I IMMEDIATELY SAW THE TRAIL OF BRAKE FLUID AND UNDER CLOSER INSPECTION I COULD SEE WHERE NOT ONE BUT TWO LINES HAD RUPTURED AT ONCE. I WAS LEAVING TO PICK UP MY SON FROM DAYCARE AND IT IS TERRIBLE TO THINK THAT HE COULD HAVE BEEN THERE AND IT MAY HAVE BEEN A BUSIER INTERSECTION. GM CLAIMS BRAKE LINES FALL UNDER ROUTINE MAINTENANCE BUT I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHICH ROUTINE THEY MEAN. NO GM TECH OR INSPECTOR HAS EVER MENTIONED RUSTY BRAKE LINES. IF THEY WANT TO MAKE THE CONSUMER RESPONSIBLE MAYBE THEY SHOULD TRAIN RESPONSIBLE TECHNICIANS. *TR
ON APRIL 11, 2015 I WAS DRIVING MY 2003 SILVERADO 1500 TO WORK. WHILE DRIVING ACROSS TOWN I APPROACHED A STOP LIGHT. MY BREAKS FELT VERY SOFT AND HAD ALMOST NO RESISTANCE. WHILE AT THE STOP LIGHT MY VEHICLE CONTINUED TO CREEP FORWARD VERY SLOWLY INTO THE INTERSECTION. LUCKILY, THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN SHORTLY THEREAFTER. I CONTINUED APPROXIMATELY 1 MILE WITH NO NEED FOR SLOWING DOWN AND ARRIVED AT MY NEXT TURN. I WENT TO DEPRESS MY BREAKS AND AGAIN THEY WERE VERY SOFT. JUST AS I WAS ALMOST SLOW ENOUGH TO TURN MY FOOT WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. AT THIS TIME THE SERVICE BREAK SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON ALL OF THE ALERT TONES BEGAN. LUCKILY I WAS GOING SLOW ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO COAST INTO A PARKING LOT AND COME TO A STOP USING WHAT MINIMAL BRAKING POWER I HAD LEFT. UPON INSPECTION I FOUND THAT MY RESERVOIR WAS VERY LOW. I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG BECAUSE I JUST HAD ALL OF MY FLUIDS TOPPED OFF WITHIN THE LAST 15 DAYS WHEN I TOOK IT BECAUSE I HAD 3 BROKEN HEADER BOLTS. AFTER WORK, I CHECKED THE RESERVOIR AND IT WAS TOTALLY EMPTY I INSPECTED THE VISIBLE PORTION OF THE LINES TO FIND THAT ONE OF THEM HAD CORRODED TO THE POINT OF BREAKING (LEAKING ALL THE BRAKE FLUID) AND THE REST WERE EXTREMELY CORRODED ALSO. OVERALL, I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS WILL BE THE 4TH TIME THIS YEAR IT HAS BEEN IN THE REPAIR SHOP FOR A COSTLY REPAIR. SINCE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK I HAVE TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF IT INCLUDING CLEANING ALL OF THE SALT OFF IN THE WINTERS AFTER EVERY STORM AND AVOIDING DRIVING NEAR THE BEACH. I HAVE TAKEN ALL ACTIONS TO KEEP THE VEHICLE RUNNING GOOD. I AM GLAD THAT I DID NOT FIND A NEED TO STOP SHORT THIS TIME BECAUSE I FEEL VERY CONFIDENT I WOULD HAVE CRASHED AND BEEN INJURED. *TR
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ROTOR BUG OFTEN DUE TO CORROSION AFTER LESS THAN 1000 MILES. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE DEALERSHIP INSTALLED COVER OVER THE AC LINE AND THAT HAD LITTLE EFFECT. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURE FLAW. *TR
I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND NOTICED A FLUID PUDDLE IN THE SPOT WHERE IT WAS PARKED. UPON INVESTIGATING,IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT ONE OF THE FRONT BRAKE LINES HAS RUPTURED. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION,ALL BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY CORRODED AND SOON TO ACCOMPANY THE RUPTURED LINE. I'M DISPLEASED THAT SUCH A VALUABLE SAFETY ASPECT OF MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN COMPROMISED BY GENERAL MOTORS. I FEEL THAT GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCH A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLES IN MY 18 YEARS OF DRIVING THAT WERE OLDER AND HAD MORE MILES THAT HAD SHOWN NO SIGNS OF SUCH FAILURE. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. *TR
I WAS TOWING MY BOAT DOWN A 4 LANE HIGHWAY, APPROXIMATELY 100 MILES FROM HOME. AS I APPROACHED A TRAFFIC LIGHT, IT TURNED YELLOW AND I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITH NO BRAKING POWER AND I ROLLED THROUGH A RED LIGHT. AS I COASTED I TRIED THE PARKING BRAKE, WHICH ALSO HAD NO BRAKING POWER. AS THIS OCCURRED, I HAD TO ROLL THROUGH ANOTHER RED LIGHT, THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO AVOID COLLISIONS. SHORTLY AFTER I WAS ABLE TO EASE THE TRUCK AND BOAT UP A HILL AND ONTO THE SHOULDER. AFTER BEING TOWED TO A DEALER, IT WAS DETERMINED I HAD A COMPLETE BRAKE LINE FAILURE DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION ON ALL THE BRAKE LINES. *TR
WHILE STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY DROPPED TO FLOOR AND BRAKES FAILED. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT AND ALL FOUR BRAKES FAILED. FORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED. TESTING THE BRAKES, I FOUND THERE WAS A LITTLE BRAKING CAPABILITY, BUT VERY LITTLE. I HAVE SINCE FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED THROUGH AND THE BRAKE FLUID SPRAYS OUT THE LINE BELOW THE DRIVER'S DOOR HINGE. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH SHOWED THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM, BUT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THE RISK. THANK GOODNESS IT DIDN'T HAPPEN ON THE FREEWAY! THIS VEHICLE HAS SPENT MOST OF ITS LIFE IN OHIO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, ALL THE GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL SEIZED. THE CONTACT HAD TO MANEUVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AFTER FIVE MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
I WAS STARTING UP MY 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO THIS MORNING TO GO TO WORK WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL QUICKLY WENT TO THE FLOOR BOARD. AFTER ROLLING BACKWARDS FOR A LITTLE I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK. AFTER THIS HAPPENED I RECEIVED THE "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM" MESSAGE ON THE CONTROL CLUSTER. LOOKING OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE, I COULD TELL A BRAKE LINE HAD BROKEN OR HAD A SIGNIFICANT LEAK AS THERE WAS A PUDDLE BY THE FRONT PASSENGER AXLE. I AM WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK AND HAVE MISSED AT LEAST A HALF DAY OF WORK. READING THROUGH THE WEBSITE REPORTS, I AM EXPECTING A LARGE BILL FROM THE RUSTED BRAKE LINE REPAIRS THAT SEEM TO BE COMMON IN THIS CHEVY VEHICLE. BEING IN THE MILITARY MY TRUCK HAS BEEN DRIVEN IN A NUMBER OF STATES, BUT NOT IN ANY NORTHERN STATES OR ON SALTED ROADS. I UNDERSTAND THAT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED TO DATE BY CHEVY. *TR
NOTICED BRAKE FLUID ON THE FLOOR OF MY GARAGE AS A RESULT OF BRAKE LINE RUST THRU. UPON INSPECTION I FOUND THAT ALL OF THE STEEL LINES IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM WERE CORRODED AND REQUIRED REPLACING. EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL HAS LEAKED DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY AND THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NEARLY ON THE FLOOR, NO BRAKE WARNING LIGHT HAS ACTIVATED INDICATING A BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE. BECAUSE I HAVE PRIOR EXPERIENCE WORKING ON VEHICLES, I KNEW ENOUGH NOT TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE TRUCK. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ON THE TRUCK BECAUSE THE DEFECTIVE STEEL BRAKE LINE MATERIAL HAS FAILED OR IS NEAR FAILURE THROUGHOUT THE BRAKE SYSTEM. *TR
SEVERAL TIMES NOW THIS LAST 2 MONTHS MY TRUCK STOPS RUNNING. AT FIRST IT WOULD SLOW DOWN THEN STOP, THE LAST TIME IT COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN 3 TIMES FROM WORK TO HOME WHICH IS ONLY 10 MINUTES AWAY. THE IGNITION SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM. I AM BRINGING THIS TO EVERYONES ATTENTION JUST IN CASE SOMEONE ELSE HAS THE SAME TYPE OF VEHICLE. IF I WERE DRIVING 65 OR 70 MILES PER HOUR IT COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE OR ME OR BOTH. MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IS ALSO SHOWING A FAULT. IT SHOWS THAT IT NEEDS SERVICED.
WHEN THE TRUCK IS CRANKED AND AT IDLE AND IN MOTION THE HEADLIGHTS AND ALL PANELS BLINK. THE LIGHT ON THE PANELS DO NOT COMPLETELY GO OUT BUT IT DIMS. THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE WENT COMPLETELY OUT A FEW TIMES WHILE IN MOTION. WHEN THE INTERIOR LIGHT IS ON IT ALSO BLINKS AND DIMS. AT TIMES THE RADIO GOES HAYWIRE AND STARTS GOING THROUGH ALL OF THE STATIONS. THE HEADLIGHT CONNECTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND WE NOTICED THAT THE WIRING THAT GOES TO THE HEADLIGHTS IS VERY BRITTLE AND WHERE THE CONNECTORS PLUG INTO THE BULB WERE BURNT AND THE PRONGS ON THE BULB WERE ALSO BURNT AND MELTED. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SOME TIME AND WE CAN'T SEEM TO FIND WHAT IS CAUSING ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS. THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW,DOOR, AND MIRROR PANEL ONLY HALFWAY WORK. SOMETIMES THE DRIVERSIDE WINDOW WILL GO DOWN AND SOMETIMES IT WON'T THE DRIVER SIDE PANEL WILL NOT CONTROL THE PASSENGER SIDE MIRROR, LOCK, OR WINDOW EITHER. THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW AND LOCK PANEL WILL NOT WORK EITHER. *TR
AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT, I HAD JUST LEFT A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY AND PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT WHEN MY BRAKES FAILED COMPLETELY. THE BRAKE PETAL WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND RATHER THAN RISKING A COLLISION WITH ANY CARS OR PEOPLE, I DROVE INTO A SNOW BANK. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK TO LOOK FOR THE PROBLEM, THE METAL BRAKE LINE HAD SPLIT AND WAS LEAKING FLUID. WHEN THE BRAKES FAIL ON YOUR CAR, IT ALWAYS HAPPENS WHEN YOU NEED THEM LEAVING YOU TO MAKE SPLIT SECOND DECISIONS, AND IN MY CASE THAT CONSISTED ENTIRELY OF NAVIGATION AS THERE WAS NO TIME TO THINK ABOUT USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THE POSSIBLE OUTCOMES IF THIS HAD HAPPENED AN HOUR BEFORE OR AFTER WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY OR FREEWAY. MY TRUCK IS WELL MAINTAINED, AND IS FREQUENTLY SERVICED BY A CHEVROLET DEALER WHERE I ALWAYS HAVE ANYTHING REPAIRED THAT THEY SUGGEST FIXING. AS THIS TRUCK CARRIES BOTH FAMILY AND EMPLOYEES, SAFETY IS OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE AND THIS IS A FRIGHTENING PROBLEM THAT SHOULD RESULT IN A RECALL. I AM HAVING ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED TODAY...IT IS GOING TO COST ME ALMOST $2000 AND THAT IS BECAUSE MY CHEVROLET DEALER IS NOT CHARGING ME FOR THE TOW, OR LABOR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS SEVERE RUST ON THE FRAME AND REAR SHACKLES. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT BOTH THE FRAME AND THE REAR SHACKLES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
DRIVING MY '03 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 (108,850 MILES ON THE VEHICLE) ON MY WAY TO GET MY OIL CHANGED, MY BRAKES SEEMED TO ALL OF A SUDDEN LOOSE MOST OF THEIR STOPPING ABILITY. I FIRST NOTICED IT APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT AFTER TRAVELING ON A STRETCH OF HIGHWAY AT 45 MPH. I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL IN MUCH FURTHER THAN NORMAL. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON INDICATING A PROBLEM. THE NEXT SET OF LIGHTS, MAYBE A 1.5 MILES DOWN THE ROAD, SAME THING, PUTTING THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR TO STOP. THIS TIME A "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM" LIGHT FLASHED FOR A SECOND THEN WENT AWAY. I HAVE NOW TRAVELED ABOUT 6 MILES FROM THE FIRST INDICATION OF PROBLEMS TO WHERE I WAS GETTING MY OIL CHANGED. AS I PULLED INTO THERE PARKING LOT, VERY SLOWLY (LESS THAN 5 MPH), I ONCE AGAIN HAD TO PUT THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR TO COME TO A STOP. I LOOKED UNDER MY TRUCK TO NOTICE FLUID DRIPPING FROM THE BRAKE LINE UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE MECHANICS THERE SAID THE LINE WAS SHOT AND RECOMMENDED NOT DRIVING IT TIL IT WAS FIXED. THEY WERE NOT SETUP TO WORK ON BRAKE LINES AT THIS SHOP, SO I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO ANOTHER MECHANIC. MY BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERALLY RUSTED. THE THING THAT CONCERNED ME THE MOST WAS HOW QUICKLY THIS ALL HAPPENED WITHOUT ANY WARNING, AND BY THE TIME THE WARNING LIGHTS DID COME ON I ALREADY HAD NO STOPPING ABILITY IF I WAS TRAVELING AT NORMAL SPEEDS. GM REALLY NEEDS TO CONSIDER THIS POOR DESIGN IN THE MATERIAL THEY USE FOR THEIR BRAKE LINES, BEFORE SOMETHING LIKE THIS LEADS TO SOME ONES DEATH. VERY DANGEROUS!!! SPEND THE TIME AND MONEY TO PUT A QUALITY BRAKING SYSTEM ON YOUR VEHICLES, IT SHOULD BE THE FIRST THING YOU DO. *TR
ATTEMPTED TO STOP VEHICLE, BRAKES FAILED (LATER FOUND TO BE DUE TO CORROSION) CRASHED INTO GARAGE. *TR
WAS COMING TO A STOP AND APPLIED THE BRAKE, BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I DID GET THE TRUCK STOPPED. GO THE TRUCK HOME AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS BRAKE FLUID DROPPING FROM THE TRUCK. TOOK A LOOK AND IT WAS COMING FROM A BREAK LINE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRUCK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED BADLY. *TR
MY WIFE AND I GOT INTO THE VEHICLE TO GO SOMEWHERE AND AS WE STARTED TO MOVE I TRIED TO STOP AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. I APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER TO STOP. I RETURNED TO MY DRIVEWAY USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I CHECKED AND FOUND THAT I HAD NO BRAKE FLUID. I GOT UNDER MY TRUCK AND FOUND THAT MY BRAKE LINES ARE CORRODED AND ONE HAD A SEVERE LEAK. I RESEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE SIMILAR INCIDENTS WHERE THERE HAVE BEEN CRASHES. I HAVE TALKED WITH A CHEVROLET REP AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DO NOT CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE. ALTHOUGH THEY KNOW OF THIS PROBLEM THEY DO NOT PLAN A RECALL. SOMEONE EVIDENTLY HAS TO DIE BEFORE IT BECOMES A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE BREAKING ON THE 6.0 ENGINE. I THINK GM SHOULD DO THIS REPAIR SINCE I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL PEOPLE AND THIS IS VERY COMMON. IT IS A DESIGN DEFECT AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED. I HAVE PUT UP WITH THIS AS IT STARTED AS A SMALL LEAK BUT IS GETTING WORSE.
SECOND FAILURE OF BRAKE LINES DUE TO ROAD SALT. FIRST TIME BACK BRAKE LINES. THIS TIME FRONT BRAKE LINE. MECHANIC SAID BRAKE LINES HE USES NICKEL AND WILL NOT ROT. HOW COME THE TRUCK IS NOT MADE WITH NICKEL BRAKE LINES? THIS WILL COST ME CLOSE TO ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS! EVERY MECHANIC I TALKED TO REPAIRS SEVERAL OF THESE PROBLEMS A MONTH. SOME JUST A FEW YEARS OLD. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THIS TIME WITH MY KIDS AFTER SLED RIDDING AND COMING DOWN A HILL TO A BUSY INTERSECTION READY TO STOP THEN NO BRAKES. ON JANUARY 20, 2015, THE BRAKES ON MY CHEVROLET SILVERADO FAILED. WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO MAKE A NORMAL TURN, ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET AROUND THE CORNER FROM MY HOUSE, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. I WAS EXTREMELY FORTUNATE THAT NO CARS WERE COMING THE OTHER WAY & I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE TRUCK OUT OF HARMS WAY UNTIL I CAME TO A SAFE STOP. I NOTICED A TRAIL OF LIQUID ON THE GROUND & ALSO DRIPPING FROM UNDER MY TRUCK. THE LIQUID COMING FROM THE TRUCK WAS BRAKE FLUID. A LATER CHECK PROVED THE BAKE FLUID WELL WAS EMPTY. OBVIOUSLY THE BRAKE FLUID THAT WAS IN THE RESERVOIR WAS NOW ON THE GROUND CAUSING THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE. WELL IT WAS OPERABLE, IT WAS ALL GOOD TO GO. STOPPING THE VEHICLE WAS ANOTHER MATTER. THANK GOODNESS I WAS DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA WHEN THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED. IMAGINE IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON A BUSY INTERSTATE (LIKE INTERSTATE 95) WHERE SOME REAL DAMAGE COULD HAVE OCCURRED OR PERHAPS WORSE DEATH. *TR
AT LESS THAN 18000 ODOMETER MILES, THE DTC CO265-EBCM MOTOR RELAY CIRCUIT HAD A FAULT. THE THREE: ABS, BRAKE AND SERVICE BRAKE NOW LIGHTS CAME ON. ON 1/12/2015 THE RUSTED EBCM GROUND HAD BEEN REMOVED AND CLEANED AS PER THE 2003 CHEVROLET K SILVERADO - 4WD SERVICE MANUAL DOCUMENT ID:2245394. THIS PROCEDURE DIDN'T SOLVE THE BRAKE LIGHT PROBLEM. THE SYSTEM IS APPARENTLY THE SAME IN 1999 TO 2007 SILVERADO YET GM ONLY RECALLED AND REPLACED COMPONENTS THROUGH THE 2002 MODEL. IT APPEARS TO ME TO BE ANOTHER GM MANUFACTURING COVER UP AND NHTSA SHOULD BE PRESSING GM TO COVER THIS SITUATION. BRAKES ARE GOOD TO HAVE IN MINNESOTA ABS BRAKES EVEN BETTER, I PAID FOR THEM, BUT THEY WERE NOT PROVIDED BY GM! *TR

I WAS PLOWING SNOW, STEPPED ON THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF A GARDEN SHED. NO WARNING OR INDICATOR LIGHT. I PARKED THE TRUCK IN THE GARAGE AND THE NEXT DAY FOUND A LARGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE TRUCK. THE MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY. I ADDED AN ENTIRE QUART OF FLUID, FOUND A RUPTURED BRAKE LINE UNDER THE TRUCK (IN THE AREA OF THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT LOCATION), STARTED THE TRUCK TO SEE IF ANY OF THE BRAKING WAS WORKING AND THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. THERE WAS NO BRAKING WHATSOEVER, EVEN AFTER FILLING THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR . *TR

ON NOVEMBER 17, 2014, I WAS STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF A HIGHWAY WAITING TO PULL INTO BUSINESS PARKING LOT, WHEN I ACCELERATED TO PULL IN, MY TRUCK MOVED FORWARD AND THEN WOULD ONLY REV UP THE RPM'S, ALMOST GETTING HIT BY ON COMING TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY, I COASTED IN THE PARKING LOT, AS THE RPM'S WERE STILL UP, THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGED AND THE TRUCK MOVED FORWARD WITH A LOUD THUMP. LOCAL DEALERSHIP REPLACED A PART ($900) AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. ON DECEMBER 27, 2014 WHILE DRIVING AWAY FROM MY HOUSE, ONCE AGAIN THE ENGINE WOULD REV UP AND THE TRUCK JUST COASTED UNTIL IT ENGAGED CAUSING A LOUD THUMP. I CALLED AND LEFT MESSAGE WITH SERVICE WRITER. ON JANUARY 02, 2015, I WAS WITH 1/2 MILE OF MY HOUSE AND TRUCK WOULD NOT SHIFT, I WAS ABLE TO TURN AROUND AND DRIVE BACK TO THE HOUSE AT A VERY LOW SPEED KEEPING THE RPM'S LOW. TRUCK IS CURRENTLY AT LOCAL DEALERSHIP WAITING FOR MY APPROVAL TO REPLACE TRANSFER CASE WHICH HAS A PIN HOLE IN IT AND SOME OTHER PARTS FOR $3100. I REALIZE THAT PROBLEMS CAN HAPPEN WITH ANY MANUFACTURE, HOWEVER THIS GM ISSUE WITH A PINHOLE IN THE TRANSFER CASE THAT IS CAUSED BY AN INTERNAL PART THAT BREAKS AND DRIVERS LOSING POWER TO THE DRIVE TRAIN IS A REGULAR OCCURRENCE. I FOUND MANY FORUMS AND SOLUTIONS ON THE INTERNET AND ONE ON NHTSA. AFTER MARKET PARTS HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED TO REPLACE THE CHEAP PARTS WITHIN THE TRANSFER CASE TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING, UNFORTUNATELY I DID NOT RESEARCH THIS ISSUE PRIOR TO HAVING THE ISSUE. IN ADDITION, I CALLED A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP TO GET AN ESTIMATE FOR THE TRANSFER CASE REPLACEMENT, I WAS TOLD THEY REPAIRED THREE IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS AND TWO ARE IN THE SHOP FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. LOSS OF POWER TO THE DRIVE TRAIN IS NOT SOMETHING TO IGNORE, FROM PERSONAL VEHICLES TO PUBLIC SAFETY VEHICLES, THIS POWER LOSS COULD TURN INTO SOMETHING MUCH LARGER THAN SOME ATF STAIN IN THE DRIVEWAY. WENT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. THERE WAS LITTLE OR NO BRAKE PRESSURE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. AT THE SHOP IT WAS NOTED THERE WAS A COMPLETE BRAKE LINE FAILURE AT THE ABS MODULE NEAR THE DRIVER DOOR OF ALL 6 REAR BRAKE LINES. THE BRAKE LINES ALL RUSTED THROUGH. THE SHOP NOTED THIS WAS A COMMON DEFECT OF THE CHEVY SILVERADOS. THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE ESPECIALLY IN COLD CLIMATES WHERE SALT AND SNOW ACCUMULATES. THIS NEEDS TO BE A SAFETY RECALL TO FIX THIS DEFECT. ALL 6 BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. *JS
