The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the power steering failed causing the steering wheel to become hard to maneuver. The contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the hydro boost area when the brake pedal or accelerator pedal were depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed that the intermediate shaft was faulty. The intermediate shaft was replaced however, the failure recurred. The contact requested the dealer to replace the power steering pump but the dealer informed the contact that the failure was caused by the power steering pump. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 115,000.
265/65/16 MICHELIN LTX M/S2 TIRE, THESE TIRES WERE NEW AND PURCHASED ON 6/21/16, ON 7/11/16 LESS THEN ONE MONTH I HAD TO BRAKE HARD TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THE 3 ROWS OF TREADS IN THE MIDDLE OF ALL FOUR TIRES BECAME SEVERELY SEPARATED AND WORN RENDERING ALL FOUR TIRES AS JUNK CAUSING THE PICKUP TO SHAKE BADLY WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE MICHELIN DIDN'T WANT HONOR ANY WARRANTIES, CLAIMS, ETC., INCLUDING THE MICHELIN PLUS GUARANTY. THIS IS WHERE IF YOU ARE NOT 100% SATISFIED WITHIN 30 DAYS YOU CAN GET A REPLACEMENT FREE. AFTER ONE BRAKING INCIDENT ALL THE TIRES WAS JUNK. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THESE TIRES TO ANYONE. THE TREAD PATTERN OF THESE TIRES IS THE DIRECT CAUSE. I ALSO HAVE PICTURES.
TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY WHEN SMOKE STARTED COMING FROM THE DASHBOARD. PULLED OVER AND WITHIN SEVERAL MINUTES THE WHOLE TRUCK WAS ON FIRE.
BRAKE LINES RUSTED AND BLEW OUT JUST AS I PULLED IN TO DRIVEWAY,(THANK GOODNESS ) AS WE WERE JUST DRIVING DOWN A MAJOR DOWNHILL GRADE IN A VERY BUSY SHOPPING DISTRICT WHERE WE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT.

THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINE WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 41,000. RIGHT FRONT BRAKE HARD LINE FAILED DUE TO CORROSION. COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKES. $590 REPAIR BILL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 4 MPH, THE CLUTCH PANEL ASSEMBLY FRACTURED INTO THE FLOORBOARD WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND A DEALER ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLUTCH PANEL FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BOTH TIMES, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,337.
BRAKE LINES COMPLETELY RUSTED THRU, HAD TO REPLACE ALL LINES, FUEL LINES RECENTLY LEAKED AND UPON INSPECTION ARE FOUND TO BE COMPLETELY RUST AS WELL, BAD MATERIAL USED IN THESE LINES, BIG SAFETY ISSUE WITH LEAKING FUEL AND INABILITY TO STOP WHEN BRAKES GO OUT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, WHICH FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AT A LOW SPEED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,330.
A FRIEND AND I WERE DRIVING ON A VERY BUSY STREET IN FORT MYERS, FLORIDA AT THE 45 MPH LIMIT. WHEN TRAFFIC SLOWED FOR A RED LIGHT I APPLIED THE BRAKES ONLY TO HAVE THE PEDAL GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. FORTUNATELY THE STREET HAS A WIDE BERM AND I WAS ABLE TO STEER AROUND TRAFFIC AND ROLL TO A STOP AFTER ABOUT 75 YARDS, CROSSING 2 BUSINESS DRIVEWAYS AND TAKING OUT 1 REFLECTOR. THE CAUSE WAS A BRAKE LINE RUPTURE DUE TO RUST. AN ON-LINE SEARCH FOR PARTS REVEALED THIS TO BE A RATHER COMMON PROBLEM THAT YOUR OFFICE IS WELL AWARE OF. I UNDERSTAND SUCH RUST HAPPENING IN THE NORTHERN STATES BUT MY TRUCK IS A FLORIDA VEHICLE THAT HAS MADE ONLY ONE WINTER TRIP NORTH AND I DON'T RECALL ANY SNOW EVEN THEN. THOUGH THE OWNER'S MANUAL DOES INSTRUCT THE OWNER TO INSPECT (OR HAVE INSPECTED) THE BRAKE SYSTEM, NO MENTION IS MADE OF RUST OR THAT THE LEFT FRONT INNER FENDER MAY NEED TO BE REMOVED TO SEE THE CRITICAL AREA (FOR RUST). WORSE IN MY OPINION, IS THE DUAL SYSTEM WHICH DID LITTLE TO SLOW MY TRUCK WHEN THE LINE FAILED. WHILE IT DOES STOP THE TRUCK IN NORMAL SLOW DRIVING, THE PEDAL HAS TO BE HELD ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND IN NO WAY DOES IT SEEM LIKE A SAFE "BACKUP". I UNDERSTAND THAT RECALLS OR EVEN NOTICES TO OWNERS CAN BE EXPENSIVE AND THAT THERE MAY HAVE BEEN NO INJURIES DUE TO THE RUST PROBLEM. BUT HAD THE STREET I WAS DRIVING ON NOT HAD A BERM TO ESCAPE TO OR HAD THERE BEEN A PEDESTRIAN ON THAT BERM, OR ANOTHER VEHICLE IN ONE OF THE BUSINESS ENTRANCES, MY INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN VERY TRAGIC. AS IS I AM STILL FACING A COSTLY AND VERY DIFFICULT REPLACEMENT OF ALL THE BRAKE LINES. AND I'LL BE LOOKING AT EVERY CHEVY IN THE AFFECTED GROUP AS A "TIME BOMB".
WE ARE REPLACING ALL METAL BRAKE LINES AFTER A SECOND BRAKE LINE FAILURE ON THE TRUCK. THESE VEHICLES NEED TO BE RECALLED AND GM FORCED TO REPLACE THE METAL TUBING. WHILE GOING 10 MILES PER HOUR ON A ROAD THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE GROUND AND FAILED ONE MONTH AFTER A BRAKE REPAIR- THIS YEAR WHEN IN FOR SAFETY INSPECTIONS AND SECOND LINE IS LEAKING AND WE WILL BE GETTING ANOTHER FAILURE SOON! I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK NEW. 3 TIMES THE DRIVERS SEAT BACK BROKE ON THE RIGHT SIDE LOWER WELD ON SEAT BACK FRAME.
WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES AND HOUR I HAD A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM, WHIT THE BRAKE PEDAL GOING COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. THIS CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT AND I REAR ENDED ANOTHER PICKUP TRUCK AND WAS ONLY ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BY APPLYING THEW EMERGENCY RAKEAKE. INSPECTION BY THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER AND THE BODY SHOP SHOWED THE BRAKE LINES COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. THE TRUCK PASSED STATE INSPECTION THE DAY BEFORE. AN INTERNET SEARCH SHOW THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY PROBLEM (RUSTING) WHICH GM CONVINCED THE NHSTA WAS NOT A DEFECT AND DID NOT NEED A RECALL. THE LEAST THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE WAS THAT OWNERS SDHOULD HAVE BEEN INFORMED. ALSO CONTRARY TOI WHAT GM SAYS IT RESULTED IN COMPLETE BRAKE LOSS...NOT PARTIAL.
2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PICKUP TRUCK. COMPLETE 100% BRAKE FAILURE, NO BRAKES WHATSOEVER. DUE TO BRAKE LINE CORROSION. CRASH OCCURRED. LUCKILY, NO ONE WAS INJURED. TRUCK HAD RECENTLY BEEN IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION 3 MONTHS PRIOR. DEALER SERVICE DEPT. DID NOT REPORT PRESENCE OF CORRODED BRAKE LINES HOWEVER OTHER THINGS WERE REPORTED AND I AUTHORIZED FIXING. SINCE THIS IS KNOWN INCIDENT I THINK THAT THIS SHOULD BE A NOTIFICATION TO OWNERS. I AM LUCKY NO ONE WAS HURT AND I CAN'T IMAGINE IF I WAS ON A FREEWAY OR OTHER AREA WHERE WORSE THINGS WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. AFTER THE COLLISION DAMAGE I AM HAVING ALL BRAKE LINES REPLACED AT MY COST. VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING ON A CITY STREET, TRAVELING ABOUT 35MPH, I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES FOR A ROUTINE STOP AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. NO BRAKE PRESSURE AT ALL. I COULD NOT CHANGE LANES DUE TO OTHER TRAFFIC. NOT ENOUGH TIME TO REACT TO GET TO EMERGENCY BRAKE. I REAR ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME.
WHILE ROUTINELY DRIVING MY 03 CHEV SILVERADO TRUCK, THE BRAKES FAILED. WHEN I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY STOP AND MOVE TO A SAFE PLACE, I LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND SAW BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES WHICH HAD FAILED DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION. AS A RETIRED POLICE OFFICER, I HAVE EXCELLENT DRIVING SKILLS WHICH HELPED ME TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED!

THE BLOWER WOULD ONLY OPERATE IN THE NUMBER FOUR AND FIVE SETTINGS DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL SHORTAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,500.
SIGNIFICANT CORROSION OF THE FUEL (GASOLINE) LINES CAUSING LEAK AND POSSIBLE SAFETY HAZARD (FIRE). SEVERAL FORUMS REPORT BRAKE AND FUEL LINE PREMATURE FAILURE DUE TO CORROSION. GM NOT ADDRESSING THIS KNOWN PROBLEM.

THE STEERING FAILED AND THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT SUFFERED NERVE PAIN IN THE BACK AND LEGS FROM THE IMPACT OF THE CRASH. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT RECEIVED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 196,000.
WAS DRIVING HOME AND I HAD COMPLETE SUDDEN BRAKE FAILURE AS I PULLED INTO DRIVEWAY.
FRONT BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH AND SPILLED BRAKE FLUID WHILE MOVING AT SLOW SPEED. HAD FRONT BRAKE LINES REPLACED. SIX MONTHS OR SO LATER, REAR BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH AND SPILLED BRAKE FLUID WHILE MOVING AT SLOW SPEED. HAD REAR BRAKE LINES REPLACED. ABS IS NOW CONTAMINATED AND IS CAUSING STOP TIME DELAY, ESPECIALLY AT HIGH SPEED. ALMOST CRASHED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE MY HEART DROPPED TO MY STOMACH. DECIDED NOT TO DRIVE TRUCK ANYMORE UNTIL I CAN REPLACE THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM WITH RUST FREE COMPONENTS.
CLEANING & MAINTENANCE, INCLUDING UNDERBODY CLEANING, HAS BEEN PERFORMED RELIGIOUSLY ON MY TRUCK REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE. TOOK IT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE & WHEN IT WAS PUT UP ON THE RACK, THE MECHANIC SAW THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED OUT. I WAS SHOCKED SINCE IT HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND WAS EVEN MORE SO WHEN TOLD IT WOULD BE ANYWHERE FROM $900-$1,700 TO REPLACE THE LINES. HE SAID THE LINES COULD FAIL WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING WHILE DRIVING. RESEARCHING, I FOUND THIS IS AN ISSUE GM HAS BEEN AWARE OF, HOWEVER INSTEAD OF THEIR ADDRESSING THE MANUFACTURING PROBLEM, THEY PUT THE RESPONSIBILITY ONTO THE OWNERS. LIKE MYSELF, I'M SURE OTHERS ARE DRIVING TOTALLY UNAWARE OF THE BRAKE LINE FAILURE ISSUE SINCE THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL.
WITH MY 03 CHEVY SILVARADO 2500 HD THIS REDUCED POWER ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON.SHUTS THE VEHICLE OFF TO 30 MPH.THIS HAPPENS ON A REGULAR BASIS.DOES NOT MATTER WHERE YOUR DRIVING.ESPECIALLY ON A HIGHWAY.THE TRUCK WILL JERK ONE WAY OR THE OTHER THEN U HAVE NO SPEED NO CONTROL FOR A LITTLE BIT .VERY DANGEROUS.HAVE TO PULL OVER WHEN YOU GAIN CONTROL SHUT THE TRUCK OFF.THEN WAIT ABOUT A COUPLE MINUTES THEN START THE TRUCK AND OFF IL GO.HAPPEN ABOUT 5-6 TIMES A DAY NOW.THIS PROBLEM CAN NOT BE FIXED,EVEN IF YOU GO TO A DEALER THEY WILL REPLACE ALL THE SENSORS FOR THE THROTTLE YOU WILL SPEND A SMALL FORTUNE AND THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS.THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND HAPPENS TO MANY OF THESE TRUCKS.LOOK IT UP ON YOUTUBE OR GOOGLE IT.IM VERY SURPRISED NOT TO SEE THIS ON THE COMPLAINT BOARD.PLEASE IF YOU HAVE THIS PROBLEM POST IT SO IT CAN BE RECALLED.I TRAVEL WITH MY DOG ALL THE TIME AND IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO HIM IT WOULD BE VERY TRAUMATIC TO ME.WHAT IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN OR GUESTS IN YOUR TRUCK.ITS WRONG THAT THIS ISSUE IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED.I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THIS COMPANY AND ALSO TO CHEVROLET TO NO AVAIL.IM WORRIED SOMEONE HAS TO BE HURT BAD OR KILLED TO HAVE THIS MATTER TAKEN SERIOUSLY.WOW THE TRUCK HAS A RECALL FOR THE TAILGATE WIRES.THE BUMPERS ARE CRAPP AND RUSTY JUNK BUT NO RECALL THERE AS WELL.PLEASE TAKE THIS SERIOUS AND ALL COMPLAIN ABOUT IT CAUSE THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS.I HATE THIS AND I REFUSE TO SPEND MONEY ON SOME DEFECT IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AN ABSOLUTE MUST.I KNOW IM NOT THE ONLY ONE SO PLEASE POST YOUR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT THAT RANDOMLY COMES ON WITHOUT WARNING.I KNOW YOU WOULD NOT WANT TO BE TOWING WITH THIS PROBLEM.ALSO YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RESELL THIS VEHICLE HONESTLY.YOU WILL HAVE TO LIE TO SOMEONE AND IF THEY GET HURT OR YOU GET SUED THAT WILL NOT BE GOOD.
REAR DRIVER SIDE BRAKE IN RUPTURED WHILE PULLING A LOADED TRAILER. LUCKILY IT WAS AT A SLOW SPEED. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC OR POSSIBLE DEADLY FOR ME AND MY CHILDREN IF I HAD BEEN ON WINDING BACK ROADS ON HAD A FULLY LOADED TRAILED BEHIND ME.
WHILE DRIVING, THE HEATER BLOWER STOPPED WORKING AND I SMELLED BURNING PLASTIC OR INSULATION. I PULLED OVER AND FIGURED OUT IT WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE DASH. LOGICALLY I PULLED THE BOTTOM COVER OFF FROM BELOW THE BLOWER ASSY.(FORMER MECHANIC). SMELL WAS COMING FROM PLUG HARNESS AND RELAY. MELTED WIRE INSULATION AND MELTED PLASTIC FROM PLUG HARNESS(OBVIOUS SHORT). I WAS NEAR AN AUTO PARTS STORE AND CHECKED TO SEE IF THEY HAD THIS WIRING PLUG ASSY. AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY DID AND THIS WAS AN ISSUE THAT GM HAD AND THERE HAD BEEN A SAFETY RECALL ON THIS. IT'S WINTER AND I NEEDED A DEFROSTER! ROADSIDE FIX, BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. CONTACTED GM AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM BECAUSE THE VIN NUMBER WASN'T PART OF THEIR RECALL. GM CASE # 8-174060432. NOT DROPPING THIS, THIS COULD HAVE GOTTEN WORSE.
I WAS LUCKY TO SEE A SPOT OF FLUID ON MY DRIVEWAY. FIGURED IT WAS BRAKE FLUID SO I HAD MY WIFE PUMP THE BRAKES WHILE I LOOKED FOR THE LEAK. WHEN SHE PUSHED DOWN HARD THE LINE BUSTED AND I LOST ABOUT ALL MY BRAKE FLUID. I'VE INSPECTED MY LINES AND THEY ARE ALL RUSTED. I HAVE THE TRUCK IN THE SHOP NOW TO REPLACE ALL BRAKE LINES. ONLY 127000 MILES ON THE TRUCK.
WHEN DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR - HAD NO BRAKES, HAD TO RELY ON PARKING BRAKE. ONE BRAKE LINE, FROM PROPORTIONING VALVE TO ABS UNIT HAD BLOWN. ALL BRAKES FAILED. UPON LOOKING, THE BRAKE LINES RUNNING ON TOP OF THE FRAME RAIL NEAR THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE WERE DETERIORATING FROM RUST.
AT RANDOM TIMES WHILE DRIVING OR TURNING, NO MATTER THE WEATHER OUR TRUCK RANDOMLY DIES. SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL SHE ALWAYS STARTS BACK UP RIGHT AWAY.HOWEVER DUE TO NOT KNOWING WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN, IT DOES ON CITY STREETS AT 25MPH AND HAD ON THE HIGHWAY AT 75MPH. WE ARE UNSURE STILL AT THE MOMENT THE CAUSE OR SOLUTION. WE HAVE HAD 4 EPISODES OF THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM STARTING THIS YEAR ONLY, 2015 .
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE SITTING IN THE REAR SEAT, THE SEAT BELTS WERE TOO LONG RESULTING IN THE PASSENGER NOT BEING RESTRAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 175,000.

THE FRONT TO REAR BRAKES CORRODED TO THE POINT WHERE THEY BLEW OUT WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY.
ON OCTOBER 22,2015 WHILE DRIVEING ON INTERSTATE 75 THE FUEL PUMP STOPPED FUNCTIONING AND RESULTING IN A NEAR DISASTEROUS SITUATION.RESULTS $751.81 REPAIR COST PLUS TOW. THEN ONE WEEK LATER,OCTOBER 29 2015 AT WILMINGTON PIKE AND INERTSTATE 675 RED LIGHT MY BRAKE LINES BURST AND I NARROWLY AVOIDED A WRECK. REPAIR COST $870.17 .I WAS NOT NOTEAFIDE OF ANY RECALL. SO BE FAIR WARNING IF I HAD KNOWN OR BEEN I WOULD HAVE FIXED IT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE CONTACT WAS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 186,444.

BRAKE LINES RUPTURED UNDERNEATH DRIVER SIDE OF VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS MOVING SLOWLY SO I WAS ABLE TO STOP. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR.
WITHIN THE LAST YEAR 3 BRAKE LINES HAVE BROKE. THE FIRST TIME 2 BROKE, AND DUE TO ITS AGE I DID NOT THINK ANYMORE ABOUT IT, THEN THE THIRD JUST BROKE, THE MECHANIC SAID HE HAS NEVER SEEN SO MANY BROKEN BRAKE LINES, ANOTHER CUSTOMER WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. TODAY I WAS TALKING TO MY NEIGHBOR AND HE JUST BROKE A BRAKE LINE ON HIS 2002 FORD TRUCK. ITS LIKE BOTH GM AND FORD BOUGHT THE SAME LOW GRADE BRAKE LINES IN THE EARLY 2000`S AND NOW THEY ARE FAILING.
THE FRAME IS CRACKED BEHIND THE REAR SPRINGS IN THE EXACT SAME SPOT ON BOTH SIDES NOT RUSTED CRACKED.

IN JUNE OF 2013 WHILE DRIVE MY 2003 SILVERADO THE BRAKES LINE COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH NEARLY CAUSING A SEVERE ACCIDENT AS I WAS IN A VERY BUSY SECTION OF US127S IN FRANKFORT, KY.. BY SURE LUCK I WAS ABLE TO MANOEUVRE THE TRUCK TO A SAFE PLACE TO STOP,WITHOUT HITTING ANOTHER PERSON OR VEHICLE BY GOING UP A SLIGHT GRADE AND PLACING IN PARK BEFORE ROLLING BACKWARDS IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO O'BRIEN & GAITES CHEVROLET IN FRANKFORT, KY. WHERE THE INFORMED ME THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I ASK IF THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THESE LINES AND WAS TOLD NO. THE LINES WERE REPLACED BOTH THE FRONT FROM BOOSTER TO ABS AND THEN FROM ABS BACK TO REAR WHEELS AT A COST OF $400 PLUS. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 89,000 MILES ON IT AND THE IN SEPTEMBER OF 2015 AFTER SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY THE BRAKES STOPPED WORKING. AFTER LOOKING UNDER THE TRUCK I COULD DETERMINE THAT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS RUNNING OUT DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM THE FRONT DOOR UNDERNEATH FROM THE FRAME RAIL. IT APPEARED OBVIOUS THAT AGAIN THE LINES WERE LEAKING. WHEN O'BRIEN & GAITS CHEVROLET WAS CONTACTED THEY INFORMED ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL TOW IN BILL AND THEN I WOULD ALSO HAVE TO PAY A DIAGNOSTIC FEE EVEN THOUGH I COULD SEE WHERE THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING AND RUNNING ON THE GROUND BY SIMPLY LOOKING UNDER THE TRUCK AS I PUSHED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL MYSELF. THIS LAST INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND THE PROBLEM WAS ONLY DISCOVERED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MOVE THE TRUCK.
HAD TO REMOVE SEAT FOR REPAIRS. WHEN SEAT REPLACED RED SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON AND MESSAGE APPEARS THAT SAYS "SERVICE AIR BAG." I CAN NOT PURCHASE SENSOR FOR THE SEAT WHICH IS RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE, BUT HAVE PURCHASE THE WHOLE UNIT WHICH INCLUDES THE MASTER UNIT UNDER THE DASH.
I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED MY BRAKE LINES ONCE ON THE TRUCK. AT A STOPLIGHT I HAD MY BRAKES GIVE OUT AGAIN. LOCAL MECHANIC STATES MY REAR BRAKE LINE HAS RUSTED THROUGH AGAIN. THIS IS A KNOWN SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES AND GM CONTINUES TO DENY THAT IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE. BRAKES ARE TOO IMPORTANT TO HAVE CONSTANT RUSTING ISSUES.
2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE BRAKE FAILURE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKE FAILURE HAPPENED WITH NO WARNING. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF LEAK AND NO OTHER VISIBLE OR PHYSICAL EVIDENCE OF A BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKE TO A REPAIR FACILITY. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CORROSION. *JB
LEAK UNDER DRIVERS DOOR JUST HAD OIL CHANGED SO THOUGHT IT WAS OIL FILTER NOT TIGHTENED , TOOK IT BACK TO OIL CHANGE PLACE AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE BRAKE LINE AND THAT HE WAS SURPRISED IT HASN'T BUSTED ALREADY. HUSBAND DROVE IT HOME AND AND GOT HALF MILE FROM HOME AND THEY BURST AND HE HAD TO DOWN SHIFT TO GET THE TRUCK TO SLOW DOWN TO TURN AND PARK IT. THIS SHOULD OF BEEN RECALLED LONG TIME AGO .MIGHT OF KILLED MY HUSBAND OR SOMEONE ELSE. WHO THINKS TO HAVE THE BRAKE LINES LOOKED AT .
SLOWING DOWN FOR A YELLOW LIGHT TURNING RED SOON, MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD NO BRAKING AT ALL. I PULLED BACK THE E-BRAKE LEVER AND PUSHED THE E BRAKE. ABLE TO PULL INTO AN EMPTY PARKING LOT OF A BANK (8:15AM) AND GET IT STOPPED. FLUID LEAKING FR L/RR PIPE AT L/RR TIRE AREA AND FROM L/F TIRE AREA. HALF HOUR LATER I COULD OF HURT A LOT OF PEOPLE. FEATHERED IT HOME AND FLUID LEAKING FROM HOLE IN L/RR PIPE AND L/F FROM SOMEWHERE I CAN'T TELL YET. NEVER HEARD OF THIS BRAKE PROBLEM HAPPENING BEFORE THEN HAD 3 PEOPLE TELL ME AT WORK THAT IT HAPPENED TO THEM IN CHEVY TRUCKS. C'MON MAN, IS THERE A RECALL? SOMEONE GONNA GET INTO SOMETHING REAL SERIOUS HERE.
THE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM IS INCREDIBLY RUSTED. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SO MUCH CORROSION BEFORE ON A VEHICLES BRAKE LINES. LUCKILY, THE LINE THAT RUNS FRONT TO BACK RUPTURED WHILE MOVING SLOWLY DOWN MY OWN DRIVEWAY! I LOOKED AT THE REST OF THE LINES UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK AND WAS AMAZED AT THE CONDITION OF THESE LINES. I AM VERY DISTURBED THAT THESE LINES ARE SO BADLY EFFECTED BY "NORMAL" NEW ENGLAND ROAD CONDITIONS. IT IS QUOTED FROM THE DEALER THAT IT WILL COST ME $1300.00 OR MORE TO REPLACE THE LINE SET. DISGRACEFUL.
JUST AS WE PULLED INTO OUR DRIVEWAY PULLING A FIFTH WHEEL CAMPER AS MY FAMILY WAS RETURNING FROM A CAMPING TRIP OUR BRAKES FAILED. CAUSE WAS A PINHOLE CORRODED IN A STEEL BRAKE LINE. WE HAD BEEN DRIVING ON MOUNTAINOUS ROADS AND HAD THIS HAPPENED DURING THE TRIP INSTEAD OF MIRACULOUSLY AS WE ARRIVED AT HOME A TRAGIC ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE BEEN A HIGH PROBABILITY. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN WELL CARED FOR AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH VERY MINOR CORROSION UNDERNEATH. VEHICLE HAS BEEN GARAGED MUCH OF THE TIME AND HAS HAD VERY LIMITED EXPOSURE TO CORROSIVE CHEMICALS. THIS WAS A TOTAL SURPRISE AND SHOCK. DUE TTO THE COST OF THIS VEHICLE WE LIMIT USAGE TO EXTEND LIFE AND WITH THE CARE GIVEN THIS VEHICLE THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED.

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH AND APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR AND THE ABS ERRONEOUSLY ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PUMP IN THE TRANSFER CASE OF THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE CAUSED A LEAK IN THE TRANSFER CASE WHICH ALLOWED THE TRANSMISSION TO DRAIN ALL THE TRANSMISSION FLUID FROM THE TRANSFER CASE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 163,000.
WENT OUT TO LEAVE IN MY TRUCK AND AS I WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY THE BRAKE LINE BROKE. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS COMING DOWN THE ROAD.
