DOOR LATCH PASSENGER SIDE FAILED WHILE DRIVING, CAUSING THE DOOR TO SWING OPEN AND PASSENGER TO ALMOST FALL OUT. PASSENGER WAS KEPT IN VEHICLE BY SAFETY BELT. NO INJURIES BUT QUITE A FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST LATCH FAILURE ON THIS VEHICLE, THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR ALSO HAD A LATCH FAILURE APPROX. A YEAR EARLIER. THIS IS CAUSED BY THE LATCH SPRINGS RUSTING THOUGH AND THE LATCH RELEASING. SPOKE WITH OTHER OWNERS THEY HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, ALSO SPOKE WITH THE DEALERS REPAIR SHOP, NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR AS WELL, THE PART IS $175 PLUS LABOR FOR EACH LATCH. *TR
THE BRAKE LINES RUPTURED DURING A PANIC STOP AND REQUIRED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO BRING THE TRUCK TO A STOP. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO A SERVICE CENTER THAT FOUND THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED.
MY VEHICLE READ 0 MPH WHEN I AM DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THERE ARE TIMES IT WILL SHOOT TO 120 MPH AND OTHERS IT WILL BE IN BETWEEN REGARDLESS OF MY ACTUALLY SPEED. ADDITIONALLY, THE GAS GAUGE GOES PAST FULL WHEN I AM NEAR EMPTY AND VICE VERSA. SOMETIMES THE GAS GAUSE STICKS IN THE MIDDLE SO I NEVER KNOW EXACTLY HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS I HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER FOR GOING OVER THE SPEED LIMIT WHEN MY GAUGE TOLD ME I WAS DOING THE SPEED LIMIT. ADDITIONALLY, I HAVE RAN OUT OF GAS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY BECAUSE MY GAUGE TOLD ME I WAS 3/4 FULL WHEN I WAS ON EMPTY. I KNOW AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS A SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCE AND VEHICLES WHO WERE LESS THAN 80K MILES OR GOT FIXED PRIOR TO JULY 2011 THEN THEY WERE COVERED. HOWEVER, NOTHING WAS DONE FOR THE VEHICLES AFTER THAT DATE. THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHERS GM OWNERS WITH TRUCKS RANGING FROM 2003-2007 WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND WE ARE BEING FORCED TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM FIXED OUT OF POCKET FOR OVER $500. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND ALL OF THE VEHICLES SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE ON MY CAR AND WAS TOLD BY GM THAT THE DEALER DIDNT SUBMIT THE NEW OWNER INFORMATION DESPITE ME BUYING FROM A GM DEALER. I AM ASKING THE NHTSA TO ENFORCE THIS SAFTEY ISSUE AND RECALL THESE VEHICLES TO BE COVERED BY GM NO MATTER WHAT THE MILEAGE IS. WHILE TESTING THE BRAKES AND LIGHTS ON A 7,000 LB GVW TRAILER THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. INVESTIGATION SHOWED BRAKE FLUID FROM BEHIND THE DRIVERS SEAT AND ABOVE THE GAS TANK. THE BRAKE LINE OVER THE GAS TANK RUSTED THROUGH AND BURST. ANOTHER 5 MINUTES I WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAVELING ON MOUNTAIN ROADS WITH NO BRAKES AND PULLING A TRAILER. VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND REPAIRED AT MY EXPENSE. ALSO A DAYS WORK WAS LOST BECAUSE I WAS NOT ABLE TO TRAVEL 130 MILES HOME FOR MY COMPANION TO WORK THE NEXT DAY. *TR
I OWN A 04 1500 4X4 SILVERADO. AS I WAS STOPPING BEHIND A CAR THAT WAS WAITING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN I PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO PUMP THE PEDAL AND GO OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHAT A RIDE!!!!! TO STOP.BY THE WAY I'M A MECHANIC TOO. I LOOK UNDER THE TRUCK TO SEE IF THERE WERE LEAKS. FOUND THAT 4 BRAKE LINES UNDER THE CAB ON THE DRIVER SIDE OUTSIDE OF THE FRAME WAS VERY VERY RUSTED AND LEAKING AS WELL RESTED UNDER THE TRUCK ALL UNDER HOW MANY IS BAD I DON'T KNOW. I JUST HAS IT TOW TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY. I DON'T DRIVE THE TRUCK MUCH BECAUSE I HAVE A 98 S-10 P/U THE BRAKE LINES ON THAT IS HOLDING UP SO FAR. *TR
BRAKE LINE FAILURE. LINES COMPLETELY RUSTED, AND LEAKING FLUID. THE FAILURE HAPPENED JUST AFTER UNHOOKING A SMALL TRAILER I WAS PULLING LOADED WITH 2000 LB OF SAND AND GRAVEL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO DIESEL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE GEAR SELECTOR WAS PLACED IN DRIVE, THE VEHICLE EMITTED A LOUD BANGING NOISE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING AND SPILLING OVER THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR EXAMINATION. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A POWER STEERING FAILURE AND A BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND A COMPLAINT WAS LODGED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,301 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 82,600.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED AFTER RECEIVING A RECALL REPAIRS FOR THE BLOWER RESISTOR, THE BLOWER FAILED AND AS A RESULT THE WIRING HARNESS AND CONTROL MODULE STARTED TO MELT DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE WHICH WAS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED TO PAY HALF OF THE REPAIR COST. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 112,000.
BRAKES FAILED WHILE STOPPING FOR A RED LIGHT. HAD TO NARROWLY SWERVE INTO OTHER LANE TO AVOID A CRASH, WITH BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. LINE RUPTURED DUE TO CORROSION, JUST IN FRONT OF DRIVER'S DOOR, ALONG FRAME. *TR
FRAME IS EXTREMELY RUSTED & CRACKED IN FRONT OF LEFT REAR TIRE. *TR
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD LT 4X4 EXTENDED CAB SHORT BED ALL HARD STEEL BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER 2 DAYS AGO THAT MY GENERAL MOTORS WARRANTY (IT IS A GM WARRANTY PURCHASED THOUGH THE GM DEALER NOT SOME OTHER COMPANY) DOES NOT COVER RUST ON ANY PARTS. IN ORDER FOR THEM TO BE REPLACED THEY MUST FAIL. I SORRY BUT BRAKE LINES FAILING WITH MY WIFE AND 6 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER IN THE TRUCK IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO ME. PLEASE HELP US GET GM TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND REPLACE THE LINES WITH ALL STAINLESS STEEL LINES. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP IN THIS MATTER. *TR

RUPTURED BRAKE LINES, DEALER SAID IT IS VERY COMMON, WANTS $1500 FOR REPAIR. MY DAUGHTER HAS 2003 SILVERADO & THE DAY BEFORE HER LINE RUPTURED ALSO! *TR
NOT ONLY HAVE I HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE STICKING AND REAR BRAKES BUT THE BRAKES AND FUEL LINES WHERE IT MAKES A TURN AROUND THE FRAME JUST UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE FOOT WELL ARE SCARY RUSTED AS IF THEY USED A CHEAP STEEL FOR THE LINES. I WAS A CHEVY DEALER MECHANIC IN THE 1980S AND KNOW WHAT IM LOOKING AT. I HAVENT HAD THE LINES BLOW OUT YET BUT IM SURE THEY WILL. ALSO ALL THE GAUGES IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER EXEPT THE ODOMETER AND GAS GAUGE AND THE FAN CONTROLS DO NOT WORK. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING AND WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,900 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
WE HAD A LIFE THREATENING EVENT ON OCTOBER 19, 2011. THE LEFT LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS BROKEN AND THE RIGHT LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS CRACKED READY TO BREAK. THIS WAS DISCOVERED WHEN WE WENT FOR A WHEEL ALIGNMENT. WE HAD TO HAVE THEM REPAIR IT IMMEDIATELY DUE TO THE DANGER OF THE PROBLEM. THE PITMAN ARM AND IDLER ARM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. WE DON'T HAVE A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP HERE. THEY SAID THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS WERE DEFECTIVE. WE USE THIS TRUCK ONLY FOR PLEASURE, NO HAULING. WE E-MAILED THE CHEVROLET CONSUMER SUPPORT CENTER AND THEY GAVE US A SERVICE REQUEST NUMBER. WE WERE REQUESTED BY THEM TO COMMUNICATE BY PHONE. WE CALLED THEM ON OCTOBER 21, 2011 AND THEY REQUESTED THE ALIGNMENT SHOP'S PHONE NUMBER. ON OCTOBER 25, 2011, THEY CALLED US AND SAID THAT THIS WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THEY DIDN'T SEEMED TO BE CONCERNED THAT THE PARTS WERE DEFECTIVE. WE WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW OF THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM SINCE THERE MAY BE MORE DEFECTIVE LOWER CONTROL ARMS. I STILL HAVE THE DEFECTIVE PARTS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 PICKUP. THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKE LINES WERE COVERED WITH RUST, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STOP THE VEHICLE WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH CASING BRAKE FAILURE AND A CRASH. NO WARNING LIGHT. *TR
WAS TESTING THE BRAKES ON A BOAT TRAILER BEFORE TOWING IT AWAY AND A STEEL BRAKE LINE RUNNING INSIDE THE FRAME CHANNEL BEHIND THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR WHEEL SUDDENLY BURST. UPON INSPECTION, THE LINE WAS COMPLETELY ROTTEN FOR ABOUT A 3 TO 4 INCH SECTION IN THAT AREA. NO WARNING, ANOTHER 10 MINUTES I WOULD HAVE BEEN TOWING A HEAVY TRAILER AND THE BRAKES WOULD HAVE FAILED AT ANY SUDDEN STOP. AFTER THIS LINE FAILURE, THE TRUCK HAS NO BRAKES EXCEPT THE E-BRAKE, WHICH ISN'T MUCH. HOPEFULLY THERE WILL BE A RECALL, THOUGH I ALREADY DROPPED $600 AT THE SHOP TO GET IT FIXED TODAY. *TR
WAS ABOUT TO PULL OUT ONTO THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. WITH TRUCK IN PARK, CHECKED UNDERNEATH AND NOTICED PUDDLES OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND. TURNED TRUCK AROUND AND PARKED IT USING THE PARKING BRAKE TO SLOW/STOP. AFTER PARKING THE TRUCK, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SAID TO SERVICE BRAKES SOON. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES ALONG THE FRAME RAIL ARE PREMATURELY DETERIORATED. ALL NEED REPLACING. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP AT AN INTERSECTION FOR PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC. BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE, A PEDESTRIAN WAS ALMOST CLIPPED. *TR
BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND HAD NO BRAKES. GOT OUT AND SAW DRIPPING FLUID NEAR MID FRAME. BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION. ALL BRAKE LINES ON THE TRUCK ARE VERY CORRODED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANYTHING LIKE THIS ON ANY VEHICLE AT THIS AGE AND MILEAGE. *TR
THIS TRUCK HAS HAD ACTUALLY 3 OF THESE PUT ON THE FIRST ONE WAS APP.JUNE 2011 THE SECOND TIME WAS SEPT.19TH 2011 THESE LAST TIME IT HAD MELTED ALL OF THE WIRES UNDER THE KICK PANEL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHICH THIS CONTROLS THE A/C AND THE HEAT BLOWER WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN IN DANGER OF STARTING A FIRE.THIS TRUCK SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO HAVE 3 OF THESE PUT ON!!!!!!!!!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 45 MPH WHEN THE TRAILER HITCH BENT ABNORMALLY. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE TRAILER HITCH COULD TOW UP 10,000 POUNDS AND THE CONTACT WAS TOWING 4,700 POUNDS OF PAY LOAD. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY SO THEY WERE UNABLE TO ASSIST. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND THAT THE TRAILER COULD HAVE DISCONNECTED AND CAUSED A CRASH DUE TO THE INACCURACY OF THE TOW LOAD LIMIT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES FAILED AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO A GARAGE DOOR WHILE ENTERING A RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED COMPLETELY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,988.
THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY SILVERADO DOES NOT SHOW THE PROPER MPH FIGURE. IT VARIES FROM 0 MPH TO 40 MPH NO MATTER AT WHAT SPEED I AM TRAVELING. THIS IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS WHEN TRAVELING THE MASS PIKE AS I HAVE NO IDEA HOW FAST I AM GOING. AROUND CITY DRIVING IT USUALLY STAYS AT ZERO WITH AN OCCASIONAL SPURT TO 60. I CANNOT FIND A RECALL FROM CHEVROLET REGARDING THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM BUT THERE SHOULD BE. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM. *TR
TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE IN MY DRIVEWAY. BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH. *KB
LEFT REAR AND RIGHT REAR EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS HAVE BROKEN OFF CAUSING AN EXHAUST LEAK. CAUSING POTENTIAL VEHICLE EMISSIONS PROBLEMS AS WELL AS THE POTENTIAL FOR CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING FROM EXHAUST GASES GETTING INTO THE CAB OF THE TRUCK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. AS THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DECELERATE AT 3 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE BRAKES WERE ABNORMALLY DEPRESSED INTO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED FROM THE MAIN ROADWAY AND TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. AFTER INSPECTION, HE WAS TOLD THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUPTURED FROM CORROSION. THE DEALER REPLACED ALL THE BRAKE LINES. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,800.
I OWN A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 4X4. I HAVE A BROKEN REAR EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY 5.3 V8. I HEAR THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM. MY LOCAL DEALER WANTS $1,600 TO FIX IT BECAUSE YOU DO NEED TO PULL THE ALUMINUM HEAD TO REPAIR IT!! I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THE HEAD NEEDING TO BE PULLED, BUT I BELIEVE THAT GM NEEDS TO STEP UP AND FIX THIS EXTREMELY COMMON AND ONGOING PROBLEM. IT IS DEFINITELY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TOWING A TRAILER AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, A CLICKING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE ENGINE AND THE ENGINE EXPLODED. THE CONTACT ALSO OBSERVED SMOKE RISING FROM THE ENGINE DURING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE EXPLODED AND ALL OF ITS COMPONENTS WERE MELTED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS CONFIRMED AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE ENGINE WAS DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
WELL I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MY SPEEDOMETER FOR A TIME OT WORKED AND THEN STOPPED AND SO ON BUT NOW SINCE AUGUST IT HAS STOPPED WORKING TOGETHER AND I'M AFRAID OF DRIVING BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW HOW FAST I AM GOING. *TR
MY TRUCK IS A 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 WITH 94000 MILES AND THE REAR DRIVER SIDE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT HEAD IS BUSTED OFF. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY CHEVY/GMC 4.8,5.3 OR 6.0 ENGINE THAT HAS THIS PROBLEM. MILLIONS OF OTHERS HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM AND FROM THIS FAILURE IT CAN LEAD TO FUTURE EMISSION PROBLEMS, CATALYTIC CONVERTER PROBLEMS, EXHAUST LEAK IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT LEADING TO EXHAUST FUMES BEING LEAKED INTO THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE WHICH WOULD BE CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE THAT GM SHOULD TAKE CARE OF AS A RECALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO PICKUP TO WORK WHEN UPON SLOWING DOWN TO ENTER A DRIVEWAY THE BRAKE SYSTEM RUPTURED AND I LOST ALL BRAKING. LUCKILY I WAS GOING 5MPH OR I WOULD HAVE HIT SOMETHING OR SOMEONE. LATER THAT EVENING I WENT ON-LINE TO RESEARCH CHEVY TRUCK COMPLAINTS AND I FOUND THE BRAKE FAILURE I EXPERIENCED IS EPIDEMIC WITH 2000-2006 MODELS FROM ALL PARTS OF THE COUNTRY, AND THAT GM IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT-BLAMING IT ON SALT ETC.. IF THAT WERE THE CASE ,ALL VEHICLES WOULD BE SUFFERING THESE ISSUES, NOT SO. THE CONSENSUS IS THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE MADE OF INFERIOR MATERIALS AND PLACED ON THE FRAME IN SUCH A WAY AS TO ACCUMULATE DIRT,SALT AND MOISTURE AND HOLD IT CREATING THE PERFECT SPOT FOR CORROSION TO OCCUR. ALMOST ALL OF THE RUPTURES OCCUR IN THE SAME SPOT-UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT AREA, BEHIND THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL. AS MINE DID. MY CONCERN IS THAT SOMEDAY AN UNSUSPECTING OWNER WILL PUT HIS /HER BRAKES ON,SAY, TO AVOID A CHILD OR AT A BUSY INTERSECTION, AND HAVE THE SAME FAILURE , RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH. MY CONCERN IS THAT GM AND ITS DEALERS ARE AWARE OF THIS AND HAVE NOT WARNED TRUCK OWNERS ABOUT THE DANGERS. MY DEALER JUST SERVICED MY TRUCK AND GAVE IT A SAFETY CHECK, BUT DID NOT SEEM TO NOTICE THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTING OUT TO THE POINT OF FAILURE. I WONDER HOW MANY TRUCKS WITH PREMATURELY ROTTING BRAKE LINES THEY HAVE REPAIRED OVER THE YEARS (AND NOT HAVE NOTICED A PATTERN), ONLY TO REMAIN SILENT? PLEAS HELP ME DO SOMETHING BEFORE PEOPLE GET HURT OR KILLED. *KB
DRIVING CONDITION WARRANTED A QUICK STOP. APPLIED BRAKES BUT PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ANY STOPPING ABILITY. I APPLIED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP AS I DRIFTED INTO INTERSECTION, THEN PUT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION INTO PARK ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING AND I NOTICED THAT IF I DEPRESSED BRAKE PEDAL I COULD ENGAGE TRANSMISSION DRIVE, BUT AS I ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE IT COASTED SINCE I WAS ON AN INCLINE .THEN I CONTACTED AAA AND THEY ARRANGED A TOW TO LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT MY BRAKE LINE FAILED DUE TO CORROSION. ALL TRUCK BRAKES WERE JUST REPLACED AND STATE INSPECTED 12/18/10 AT THE DEALER FROM WHERE I BOUGHT TRUCK. *TR
CHEVY SILVERADO 3500 DURAMAX DIESEL, HAS A CRACKED FUEL FILTER HOUSING, CONTACTED CHEVY/GM CUSTOMER CARE REGARDING THIS PROBLEM AND EVEN GAVE THEM A TSB THAT I FOUND ON WEBSITE AND INFORMED THEM OF MANY COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER OWNERS. THEY REFUSE TO REPAIR THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING AT THEIR, WHEN I TOOK VEHICLE IN TO BE CHECKED OUT IT STATES THAT THIS NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED AND COULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD AS FUEL CAN LEAK INTO HOUSING AND CATCH FIRE. I TOLD THE CUSTOMER CARE AGENT OF MY CONCERN ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS ISSUE AND WAS TOLD THAT GM/CHEVY WOULD NOT PAY FOR IT! I HAVE HAD MAJOR ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE FOR OVER SIX MONTHS AND GM REFUSES TO ASSIST ME WITH MOST OF MY CONCERNS. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 SILVERADO K2500 WITH A DURAMAX DIESEL (LLY). I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW IN SEPTEMBER 2004. I PULL A FIFTH WHEEL CAMPER. MY TRUCK HAS OVERHEATED MORE THAN TWO DOZEN TIMES, AND ON SOME OCCASIONS LOST POWER, WHILE PULLING THE CAMPER UP LONG GRADES. I REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TWICE TO CHEVROLET DEALERS. I HAVE THE SERVICE ORDERS THAT CLEARLY DESCRIBE MY OVERHEATING PROBLEM. BOTH OF THESE SERVICE CALLS WERE WHILE THE TRUCK WAS UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THE DEALERS COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. LATER WHEN THE TRUCK WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, I FOUND OUT THAT GENERAL MOTORS RECOGNIZED THE OVERHEATING PROBLEM AND ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN #06-06-04-036D THAT DESCRIBES MY HEATING PROBLEM EXACTLY. THIS SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED PRIOR TO EITHER OF MY COMPLAINTS ABOUT OVERHEATING. THE COST OF IMPLEMENTING SERVICE BULLETIN #06-06-04-036D IS APPROXIMATELY $1,300 DOLLARS, SO GENERAL MOTORS RECOGNIZES THAT THIS SERIES TRUCK HAS A SIGNIFICANT OVERHEATING PROBLEM, BUT APPARENTLY THEY ARE HIDING THIS FIX FROM THE OWNERS UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I CAN GIVE MANY INSTANCES WHERE THIS OVERHEATING PROBLEM HAS CAUSED A SAFETY PROBLEM. ONE TIME I WAS PULLING THE CAMPER EAST ON INTERSTATE 40 ABOUT A 150 MILES WEST OF ALBUQUERQUE, NM WHEN THE TRUCK OVERHEATED AND LOST POWER. THERE WAS NO GOOD PLACE TO PULL OVER AND I WAS TERRIFIED AS THE HEAVY TRAFFIC HAD TO CHANGE LANES AND PASS ME. ANOTHER TIME I WAS PULLING UP TO THE NORTH RIM OF THE GRAND CANYON ON A TWO LANE ROAD WHEN THE TRUCK OVERHEATED, LOST POWER AND I HAD A LONG LINE OF TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. IT WAS DANGEROUS AS THE TRAFFIC PASSED ME WITHOUT GOOD CLEARANCE. I COULD GO ON AND ON OF SIMILAR SITUATIONS THAT CAUSED DANGEROUS CONDITIONS. 2004 SILVERADO 2500 HD, WHILE TOWING APPROX. 7000LBS MY BRAKE LINE RUPTURED, LUCKILY I HAD THE TRAILER BRAKES TO STOP ME BECAUSE THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. UPON INSPECTING CLOSELY THE BRAKE LINES ARE SO RUSTED YOU CAN LITERALLY SMASH THEM BETWEEN YOUR FINGERS. THIS IS THE NEWEST VEHICLE I OWN AND IS IN THE WORST SHAPE AS FAR AS CORROSION GOES, A SHAME AT 70K MILES. TRUCK IS IN THE SHOP NOW, CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT THIS WILL COST. ALREADY REPLACED ROTORS DUE TO CORROSION, E-BRAKE CABLES, WHEEL SPEED SENSOR(BRACKET ROTTED OFF). *KB

I WAS BACKING TRUCK INTO DRIVE WAY MOVING ABOUT 5MPH AND APPLIED BRAKES TO PUT TRUCK INTO REVERSE AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR DID NOT STOP TRUCK. STEEL BRAKE LINE RUPTURED WHERE THE ABS MODULE IS UNDER THE TRUCK RIGHT BELOW DRIVER SEAT. ALL BRAKE LINES LOOK EXTREMELY RUSTY. TRUCK IS A 2004 2500HD CREW CAB 4X4. I BOUGHT BRAND NEW AND IT HAS 47,212 MILES. I PULL A 7000 LBS. CAMPER AND I'M GLAD IT HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY. IN JUNE THE RUBBER GAS LINE FAILED PUMPING 15 GALLONS OF GAS ONTO BOTTOM OF TRUCK AND GROUND ON THE WAY TO WORK (27 MILES). ONCE AGAIN, I WAS LUCKY. I PREFER TO NOT HAVE ANY OTHER STRIKES, TWO IS ENOUGH FOR ME! I HOPE IT DOES NOT TAKE AN INJURY, DEATH, ACCIDENT OR PROPERTY DAMAGE TO GET THE NEEDED ATTENTION THIS VEHICLE NEEDS. *TR
I OWN A 2004 SILVERADO 2500HD CREW CAB. I WAS LEAVING A LAKE BOAT RAMP WITH MY BOAT IN TOW WHEN, WITHOUT WARNING, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF THE E-BRAKE I WAS ABLE TO BRING IT TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER. AFTER INSPECTING UNDER THE HOOD I WENT UNDER THE TRUCK AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES INTO THE PROPORTIONING VALVE WERE SEVERELY RUSTED AND ONE HAD RUPTURED. I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED AT THIS POINT. UPON RETURNING HOME I BEGAN LOOKING FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS AND FOUND THAT YOUR AGENCY IS INVESTIGATING THIS PROBLEM. I FIND IT UNSATISFACTORY THAT THERE HASN'T BEEN AT LEAST AN ADVISORY TO AT LEAST INSPECT SO AT LEAST THE OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES WOULD HAVE A CHANCE TO PROTECT THEMSELVES, THEIR PROPERTY, AND OTHER INDIVIDUALS FROM HARM. THANK GOODNESS I WAS NOT GOING ANY FASTER THAN I WAS. THERE WAS NO WARNING AND I HAD MY FAMILY WITH ME. WOULD YOU PLEASE AT LEAST PUT SOMETHING OUT. I KNOW THERE IS CURRENTLY NO RECALL. 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. EVERYTIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN, THE AIR CONDITIONING CHANGES FROM HOT TO COLD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I HAVE TO STOP, TURN OFF VEHICLE, AND RESTART THE VEHICLE IN ORDER FOR THE AIR CONDITIONER TO WORK PROPERLY. *TR
ON JULY 21 MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO OVERHEATED AND HAD A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. THE PROBLEM WAS A DIRECT RESULT OF A CRACKED HEAD THAT LEAKED ALL OF THE ENGINE COOLANT INTO THE OIL PAN. THIS DEFECT IS A KNOWN DEFECT TO GM PER A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLITEN THAT WAS ISSUED IN 2007. THE BULLITEN NUMBER IS #06-06-01-019B AND COVERS ENGINES MANUFACTURED FROM 2001 TO 2006. CHEVROLET HAS OFFERED TO ONLY REPLACE THE CRACKED HEADS WHICH DOES NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF THE COOLANT THAT ENTERED THE OIL SYSTEM WHICH CAN AND WILL CAUSE SEVERE SAFETY ISSUES LATER IN THE VEHICLES LIFE. *TT
I WAS ON A STATE ROAD DOING 50 MPH LEAVING MY TOWN AND WENT TO TURN AND MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND PULL OVER AND NOT GET IN AN ACCIDENT. I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME AND DISCOVERED NO BRAKE FLUID. I FILLED UP THE FLUID AND STARTED TO BLEED THE BRAKE. THAT'S WHEN I NOTICED THE RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINES AND THE BRAKE FLUID SPRAYING OUT. I HAVE ORDERED NEW BRAKE LINE FROM INLINE TUBE. I WAS LUCKY TO NOT CRASH BUT I AM WORRIED ABOUT OTHERS WHO MAY HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND NOT BE AS LUCKY AS ME. *KB

TRUCK IS NOW AT AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP WITH ONE BUSTED BRAKE LINE AND ALL FIVE LINES CORRODED AND NEEDING REPLACEMENT. *TR
2004 CHEVY SILVERADO. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO BRAKE FAILURE IN VEHICLE. *SMD UPON LEAVING A SERVICE STATION AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. DUE TO BEING CLOSE TO HOME, THE CONSUMER DROVE VERY SLOWLY AND PARKED AT A LOT CLOSE TO HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC CALLED AND SAID THE BRAKE LINE WAS VERY RUSTY. HE REPLACED A SECTION OF THE LINE; APPROXIMATELY $400. THE MECHANIC INSPECTED THE LINES AND ALL FOUR OF THEM WERE RUSTY. IT WOULD COST $900 TO REPLACE ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES.

THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE FAULTY INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER. IN 2007, THE MANUFACTURER SENT A LETTER TO ALERT THE CONTACT OF A DEFECT WITH THE SPEEDOMETER HOWEVER, NO RECALL WAS ISSUED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED.
