I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE IN MY 2004 SILVERADO Z71 EXTENDED CAB AND THE DRIVESHAFT BROKE IN HALF. I HAVE @106,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. IT IS CURRENTLY AT A REPAIR SHOP TO BE FIXED. I HAVE NEVER TAKEN THIS TRUCK OFF-ROAD. I AM VERY CONCERNED AS I HAVE READ MANY OTHERS WITH 2004 MODELS HAVE HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE HAD IT OCCURRED WHILE HIGHWAY DRIVING AS THE ENTIRE REAR DRIVESHAFT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRUCK WAS HANGING DOWN ONTO THE ROAD. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2004 SILVERADO Z71 EXTENDED CAB EITHER DOESN'T WORK OR SHOWS INCORRECT SPEEDS. GM HAS ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS UP TO 70,000 MILES AND WHILE I HAVE 106,000 MILES CURRENTLY, THE PROBLEM STARTED AT 67,000 MILES. I WAS OVER 100,000 MILES WHEN THE RECALL LETTER ARRIVED BY MAIL. I DID NOT PREVIOUSLY FIX THE PROBLEM FOR THE SAME REASON I STILL HAVEN'T, LACK OF FUNDS. IF THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO FAULTY EQUIPMENT GM SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO REMOVE THE MILEAGE REQUIREMENT. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR A KNOWN FAULTY PART SIMPLY BECAUSE MY WORK ENTAILS EXTENSIVE DRIVING. *TR
2004 CHEVY SILVERADO HD 2500 DIESEL--TRANSFER CASE WEARING FROM INSIDE OUT I TOOK MY TRUCK IN TO HAVE SERVICE WORK DONE ON IT, AND FOUND OUT FROM THE JASPER TRANSMISSION COMPANY, THAT THEY ARE DOING A LARGE NUMBER OF CHEVY TRANSFER CASES BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T SHIMMIED RIGHT FROM THE FACTORY, CAUSING THE GEARS IN THE TRANSFER CASE TO EAT THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE HOUSING ON THE TRANSFER CASE ITSELF. THIS THEN RESULTS IN THE TRANSFER CASE FLUID TO LEAK OUT, AND CAUSES THE GEAR BOX TO COME APART INSIDE THE TRANSFER CASE. THE CHEVY DEALER THAT I TOOK MY TRUCK TO NEVER EVEN MENTIONED THIS TO ME, AND WAS VERY EVASIVE ABOUT THE WHOLE ISSUE. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GMC (GOV'T. MOTORS CORP.) CAR OR TRUCK AGAIN!! *TR
I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 SS, THE DRIVER'S POWER SEATS, DRIVER AND PASSENGER HEATED SEATS, AND MIRROR DIMMER'S LOSE ALL POWER. THEY WERE WORKING 30% OF THE TIME. I TOOK IT INTO THE THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID THE WIRE HARNESS MELTED AND WOULD COST $500.00 TO FIX, THEY CAN'T DETERMINE WHY IT MELTED. THEY LEFT THE HARNESS UNPLUGGED BECAUSE IT LEFT IN, IT WOULD CAUSE FURTHER DAMAGE TO THE AIRBAGS. MY DRIVES SIDE ARIBAG WILL NOT INFLATE IF NEEDED UNTIL REPLAIRED. I CALLED GM - CHEVROLET TO MAKE A COMPLAINT SAYING THIS IS A SAFET ISSUE AND NOTHING DUE TO HUMAN ERROR. THEY SAID IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE OR A DEFECT, THEY ARE ALSO NOT SURE OF WHY IT MELTED, IT COULD BE MANY REASONS: SOMETHING TOUCHED IT, WEAR AND TEAR, A GM PART GONE BAD. THEY CLAIM THIS IS NOT A GM ISSUE. THEY SAID BECAUSE OF ALL THIS AND THE AGE OF THE CAR, THEY WILL NOT COMPENSATE FOR ANY OF IT, BUT THEN SAID REGARDLESS OF THE AGE OF THE CAR, THE WIRE IS NOT SUPPOSED TO MELT. *TR
RETURNING FROM PERFORMING A DRILL OPERATION AND TOWING OUR DRILL MACHINE BACK TO THE OFFICE. ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES AND ALL FAILED AT APPROX. 60MPH. I UTILIZED THE TRAILER BRAKES TO BRING THE TRUCK AND TRAILER TO A STOP WHERE I FOUND A MAIN BRAKE LINE HAD SPLIT. HAVING IT REPAIRED THE MECHANIC ADVISE ME THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM SHOULD BE REPLACED DUE TO CORROSION/RUST ON ALL LINES INCLUDING THE FUEL LINE WHICH COULD ALSO FAIL. IT WAS SO BAD THAT THEY DID NOT ATTEMPT TO BLEED THE LINES AS THE BLEEDER MAY BRAKE OFF. AFTER THAT THE TRUCK HAS BEEN STORED UNTIL IT CAN BE REPAIRED AT OVER $2100.00 FOR ONLY THE BRAKES AND DOES NOT INCLUDE THE FUEL LINE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHENEVER THE CONTACT WOULD TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT HE NOTICED A GROWLING SOUND COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN ESPECIALLY WHEN SWITCHING LANES. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE GEAR BOX NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 49,300 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 48,500.
2 METAL BRAKE LINES BLEW OUT ON MY 2004 CHEVY 1/2 TON PU. THEY HAD BEEN RUSTED NEARLY THROUGH AND FIRST ONE BLEW THEN THE SECOND DIAGONAL IN A HARD STOP LEAVING ME WITH NO BRAKES EXCEPT THE EMERGENCY. NO ACCIDENT OR INJURY BUT IT SURE COULD HAVE BEEN. THE LINES SEEMED TO HAVE LITTLE OR NO COATING TO PROTECT THEM FROM RUST AND CERTAINLY SHOULD HAVE LASTED LONGER THAN THIS. VEHICLE SPEEDS UP, SURGES, THEN STARTS TO BUCK AND YOU GET TRANSMISSION LASH. IT HAPPENS AT ROAD AND HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 45 OR 55 MPH, AND CAN/DOES HAPPEN IN OD OR IN 3RD GEAR. (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). I HAVE HAD A THIRD PARTY "SCAN" THE SYSTEM, AND I GET "NO" CODES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DOES "NOT" COME ON. I AM ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE AT WILL. THE VEHICLE IS A 2004 K1500 WITH 46,500 MILES. ITS PRIMARY USE SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW IS TO TOW A 19 FOOT MASTERCRAFT FROM APRIL TO NOVEMBER. MAINTENANCE IS PERFORMED BY THE MANUFACTURES' RECOMMENDED GUIDELINES. ORGINAL TIRES, AIR AND OIL FILTERS HAVE BEEN CHANGED AS NEEDED. NO AFTERMARKET DEVICES INSTALLED. I HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF VERBAL ENCOUNTERS WITH CHEVY DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY SEEM TO BE CLUELESS. BUT ARE WILLING TO TROUBLESHOOT AT MY EXPENSE, PLUS COSTS OF ALL PARTS AND SERVICE HOURS. THIS COULD $1000.00 OR MORE....VERY FRUSTRATING. THIS IS A HAZARD, ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL SIMILIAR ISSUES ON THE INTERNET BLOG SITES, WITH NO CONCRETE ANSWERS. GM IS SCAMMING THE PUBLIC, AND THE GM SERVICE DEPARTMENTS ARE PASSING THE COSTS TO THE CONSUMERS. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL AND A FIX FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE A DIESEL TRUCK. I NOTICED THAT I COULD SMELL FUEL WHEN THE TRUCK WAS IDLING. I CHECKED UNDERNEATH AND NOTICE A POOL OF FUEL ON THE GROUND ABOUT MIDWAY BACK UNDER THE TRUCK. I CHECKED UNDERNEATH AND NOTICED THE FUEL LINE WAS LEAKING JUST BEFORE IT ENTERED THE FUEL COOLER. THE LINE HAD BURST DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON JANUARY 15, 2010, HE NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER DID NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS DEFECTIVE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE AUTHORIZED DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WHO BOTH STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 91,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,560.
FUEL INJECTORS GO BAD CAUSING ENGINE TO STALL AND LURCH FORWARD WHILE IDLING. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER AND HAD THIS PROBLEM REPAIRED 3 TIMES AND IS DOING IT AGAIN *CN *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FOUR OF THE EIGHT STUDS AND LUG NUTS THAT HELD THE TIRES AND WHEELS WERE MISSING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED HIM THERE ARE NO RECALLS AND HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED BY THE MANUFACTURER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR THEM TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT AT A COST TO THE CONTACT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000.
I HAVE OWNED 4 GMC PICKUPS AND HAVE COMPLAINED 2 TIMES ABOUT SPARE TIRES MOUNTED UNDER REAR FRAME THAT HAVE COME OFF ON THE HIGHWAY WITH OUT KNOWING WHERE FROM 1996-2004 ,I NOW HAVE ONE THAT I CANT GET OFF AND THE DEALER SAID THEY WILL CUT IT OFF AT MY COST YET YOU ARE CHARGING TOYOTA WITH THE SAME FAULT AND RECALL WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE THAT OWN GM AND FORD PRODUCTS! WHY ARE WE LEFT IN THE COLD. YOU NEED TO DUE THE SAME FOR THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE BOUGHT AMERICAN MADE, WHAT CARS MY TIRES HAVE HIT WHO KNOWS ! *TR
COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE DASH CLUSTERS, NO OIL PRESSURE READING, NO SPEEDOMETER READING THAT COULD RESULT IN TICKETS OR ACCIDENTS. *TR
ONE BY ONE, THE GAUGES ON THE DASH HAVE STOPPED WORKING, STARTING WITH THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE GAUGE. THEN THE FUEL LEVEL GAUGE, SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER, OIL PRESSURE, AND FINALLY THE TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE GAUGE ALL WENT OUT, LEAVING ONLY THE BATTERY VOLTAGE METER WORKING CORRECTLY. I KNOW AT LEAST THREE OTHER PEOPLE LIVING WITHIN 20 MILES OF MY HOUSE THAT HAVE ALSO HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THEIR 2004 SILVERADOS. *JS
FOUR EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS HAVE BROKEN OFF SINCE I'VE OWNED THIS TRUCK AND THE MANIFOLD HAS CRACKED. IT IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT OCCURS IN MANY OF THE SIMILAR V8 EQUIPPED MODELS AND HAS BEEN WELL DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED BY GM. THIS PROBLEM ALSO LEADS TO FAULTY EMISSION READINGS BY THE VEHICLE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL GO ON AND REMAIN ON UNTIL THIS EXPENSIVE PROBLEM IS FIXED. *TR
WHILE BRAKING GOING DOWNHILL TO A STOP SIGN BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I PROCEEDED TO ENTER INTO THE ONCOMING LANE. FAILURE OCCURED ONCE THE BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTED THRU AND BURST. NO I DO NOT HAVE THE OLD PART BUT HAVE THE INVOICE. *TR

THE DEALER ADVISED HIM THAT HE COULD REPAIR THE VEHICLE FOR OVER $1,000 AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE TO DATE. THE CONTACT FELT AS IF THE PARTS USED TO MANUFACTURE THE FUEL PUMP WERE DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 77,779.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MOTOR WAS CRACKED WHICH CAUSED OIL AND ANTIFREEZE TO COMBINE AND EMIT THROUGH THE EXHAUST PIPE. THE HEAT FAILED TO OPERATE NORMALLY AND THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT APPROXIMATELY ONE GALLON OF ANTIFREEZE AND 2 QUARTS OF OIL LEAKED OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED PREVIOUSLY. A LOCAL MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT THE ENGINE WAS CRACKED BETWEEN CYLINDER 3 AND CYLINDER 5 AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ALTHOUGH HER WARRANTY WAS NOT VALID FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 89,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 88,000. UPDATED 12/30/09 *BF UPDATED 01/04/10. *JB
THE SPEEDOMETER SUDDENLY GOES TO 120 MPH AND STICKS THERE. IT WILL RESET ITSELF WITHIN 3 DAYS (USUALLY) BUT IS HAPPENING MORE OFTEN NOW. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED SHE NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER MOVED FROM 0 TO 120 MPH WITHOUT THE VEHICLE MOVING. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN SERVICED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 154000.
MY 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO GOES INTO ABS MODE AT SPEEDS UNDER 10 MPH INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCE . THIS OCCURS AT EVERY STOP. THE DEALER CLEANED RUST FROM THE FRONT SPEED SENSOR SEAT ,THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT 2002 AND PRIOR MODELS HAD THAT RESULTED IN A RECALL. THE DEALER SAID THIS RECALL WAS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM BUT DID NOT COVER 2003 AND UP. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER IS VERY ERRATIC. IT WON'T RESET TO 0, BUT STOPS ELSEWHERE, OFTEN AT 100K SO IT LOOKS LIKE I'M OFTEN TRAVELING ABOUT 200K. THE AMMETER DOES THE SAME THING, AND SOMETIMES THE TACH DOESN'T WORK AT ALL. *TR
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. FIRE INVESTIGATOR WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE DASH FIRE *TGW THE VEHICLE WAS HEAVILY DAMAGED BY A FIRE WHICH REPORTEDLY ORIGINATED IN THE DASH. THE FIRE SPREAD AND CONSEQUENTLY CONSUMED THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT, THEN SPREAD TO THE ENGINE. THE PROBLEM MANIFESTED WHILE THE DRIVER WAS USING THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER. PRIOR TO THE FIRE, THE TRANSMISSION, ALTERNATOR AND A 15 AMP FUSE LIGHTER FUSE WAS REPLACED. THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER WAS USED FREQUENTLY, PLUGGING A 400 WATT INVERTER WHICH ALLOWED THE DRIVER TO USE HIS COMPUTER. AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE, THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN HE UNPLUGGED THE INVERTER FROM THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER SOCKET AND INSERTED HIS CIGARETTE LIGHTER WHICH POPPED BACK. ABOUT A SECOND LATER, WHITE SMOKE STARTING COMING FROM THE DASH. THERE WERE NO CIGARETTES IN THE ASH TRAY. THE SMOKE STARTED TO INCREASE AND THE CONSUMER IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS AN ELECTRICAL INSULATION SMOKE ODOR. THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE BACK OF THE DASH; THERE WAS NO SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OR THE HOOD AT THAT TIME. IT WAS IN THE FIRE INVESTIGATOR'S OPINION, THAT THE RESULTS OF THE EXAMINATION LEAD TO A CONCLUSION THAT ON A MORE PROBABLE THAN NOT BASIS, AN ELECTRICAL ANOMALY AT THE DASH AREA AND IN THE VICINITY OF THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER IGNITED NEARBY COMBUSTIBLES AND THE FIRE SPREAD INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. ONGOING BRAKE PROBLEMS WITH ROTORS AND PADS. THE INITIAL FAILURE OF ALL ROTORS AND PADS WERE REPLACED BY DEALER 11,505 MILES. REAR PADS HAVE FAILED AGAIN AT 17,589 MILES. THIS VEHICLE WAS IN FOR A STATE SAFETY INSPECTION AND FAILED SO AGAIN I WILL BE IN CONTACT WITH DEALERSHIP. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE SPEEDOMETER REGISTERED THE SPEED AT 120 MPH. WHENEVER HE REDUCED THE SPEED, THE SPEEDOMETER RESET ITSELF TO 55 MPH. 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO SPEEDOMETER RECENTLY JUST STARTED JUMPIN UP AND DOWN, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT SPEED I AM DRIVING. MY GAS GADGE IS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY EITHER. BOTH THESE DEFECTS OCCUR TWICE A WEEK AND SOMETIMES WILL START WORKING THEN GO BACK TO THE DEFECT. MY HEAT COMES ON WARM ONLY WHILE I'M DRIVING. *CN

I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO AND THE SPEEDOMETER GETS STUCK ON A DIFFERENT NUMBER EVERY TIME I GET IN IT. IT NEVER GOES BACK TO ZERO AND I NEVER KNOW HOW FAST I AM GOING. I CONTACTED A FRIEND THAT WORKS FOR A GM DEALERSHIP AND HE SAID THEY HAD A RECALL ON ALL 2003 AND 2004 FOR THIS PROBLEM. SO I TOOK IT UP THERE AND THE MAN I TALKED TO SAID THE RECALL WAS ONLY GOOD FOR TRUCKS UNDER 70,000 MILES. MY TRUCK HAS 128000 MILES. BUT IT SEEMS TO ME IF THEY KNEW IT WAS A BAD PART AND HOW IMPORTANT THIS PART WAS IT SHOULDN'T HAVE A MILEAGE LIMIT FOR A RECALL. *TR
UNABLE TO MAKE LEFT HAND TURNS AT PARKING LOT SPEEDS. THE TRUCK REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING BOX AT 65,000 MILES. THIS CONDITION STARTED OUT AS AN INCREASE IN STEERING EFFORT AND PROGRESSIVELY WORSENED UNTIL I WAS NO LONGER ABLE TO MAKE LEFT HAND TURNS. *TR
AT 30,000 MILES THE STEERING STARTED CLUNKING REAL BAD. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY KNEW JUST WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THEY PACKED THE STEERING WITH GREASE AND IT WAS FINE FOR ABOUT 20,000 MORE MILES. THE CLUNKING RETURNED BUT I IGNORED IT BECAUSE THE DEALER SAID IT WASN'T A PROBLEM. TURN OFF VEHICLE AND THE NEEDLE RESTS ABOUT THE 50 MPH LOCATION AND WILL ONLY GO BACK TO THE ZERO LOCATION AFTER 6-8 RESTARTS. ALSO WHILE LISTENING TO THE RADIO IT WILL SUDDENLY GO TO ANOTHER STATION AND LOSE ALL THE PRESETS. *TR

AS A CONSEQUENCE THE VEHICLE STRUCK A LARGE DECORATIVE BOULDER DIRECTLY IN THE PATHWAY. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THERE WAS NOT A BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL PRIOR OR DURING THE FAILURE. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED NO PERSONAL INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A RUSTED BRAKE LINE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 59,347.
2004 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD I HAD SPEEDOMETER ISSUES PRIOR TO THE WARRANTY GOING OUT. AT THE TIME I INITIALLY NOTICED THE ISSUE IT WAS TAKEN IN FOR EVALUATION AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS GOING TO BE OVER 700 DOLLARS TO FIX. IT WASN'T 6 MONTHS LATER I GOT NOTICE THAT IT WAS COVERED UNDER A RECALL. UNFORTUNATELY BY THEN THE MILEAGE WAS WELL OUT (SEEING I TRAVELED FOR WORK), AND I WAS STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR THE BILL. I FEEL ITS A VERY UNFAIR PROCESS IN WHICH I WAS TOLD IT WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY AND THEN HAD THINGS GONE AT A FASTER RATE AT THAT TIME, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED. I OWN A 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO.IT HAD ONLY 59,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF THE DEFECT. THE DEFECT IS THE SPEEDOMETER ON THE TRUCK. I WAS RETURNING FROM AN OUT OF STATE TRIP WHEN I NOTICED I WAS PASSING EVERYONE ON THE INTERSTATE. MY WIFE TOLD ME TO SLOW DOWN BUT I TOLD HER I WAS DOING THE SPEED LIMIT. AT LEAST I THOUGHT I WAS ABOUT TEN MINUTES LATER I LOOKED DOWN AT THE SPEEDOMETER AND IT SAID I WAS GOING 30 MILES PER HOUR AND I MUST HAVE BEEN DOING 65-75. I SLOW DOWN TO WHAT LOOKED LIKE A SAFE SPEED BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT TO GET A TICKET OR CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. LATER WE STOPPED FOR GAS AND WHEN I RETURNED ON THE HIGHWAY I HAD NO READING AT ALL. I HAD 800 MORE MILE TO GO AND COULD NOT TELL HOW FAST I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. AS WE MADE OUR WAY BACK HOME OVER THE NEXT TWO DAYS THE SPEEDOMETER READ ANYWHERE FROM 70,40,25 OR NOTHING WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE.I CONTACTED THE CHEVY DEALER ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY WAS NOTHING CAN COULD DO SINCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRE. I LOOKED FOR A RECALL BUT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING.WHAT I DID FIND WAS OVER 40 COMPLAINTS ON THE WEBSITE CALLED AUTO BEEF WHERE OWNERS OF 2004 SILVERADO WAS HAVING THE SAME UNFIXED ISSUE. THE TECHNICIAN CONCLUDED THAT THE THERMOSTATS ARE NOT ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO ACHIEVE OPERATING TEMPERATURE AND INJECTORS 5, 6, 1 ARE DEFECTIVE. THE REPAIR WILL BE PERFORMED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103000.
OIL PRESSURE GAUGE QUIT WORKING IN ABOUT 2009. TOOK INTO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD WE WERE 4,000 MILES PAST THE RECALL OF THE CLUSTER. VERY EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENT!! SINCE THAT TIME THE SPEEDOMETER QUIT WORKING, THE TACHOMETER QUIT WORKING. VERY SCARY TO BE HAVING TO RELY ON TEMPERATURE GAUGES THAT I HOPE ARE WORKING CORRECTLY STILL, AND A GAS GAUGE THAT HOPEFULLY IS ALSO WORKING CORRECTLY. I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY DID NOT SUBMIT A FULL RECALL AND REPLACEMENT OF THIS INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WITHOUT AN EXPIRATION ON IT. SEEMS LIKE THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE TO ME TO HAVE NON WORKING GAUGES DUE TO A FACTORY DEFECT!! *TR
