TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE EXPERIENCED INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE WHEN BRAKING AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THAT TIME. THE FAILURE OCCURRED THREE TIMES AFTER THE REPAIR AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL WHICH EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD. HE APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE HAD NOT OCCURRED SINCE THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,222 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 83,000. UPDATED 12/29/10 *BF ALSO, THE HYDRO BRAKE BOOSTER WAS LEAKING. UPDATED 04/06/11

THE SPEEDOMETER IN MY '04 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WILL WORK PART OF THE TIME, AND DISPLAY INCORRECT SPEEDS OR STAY AT ZERO AT TIMES. I KNOW OF MANY OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. WHEN WILL GM ISSUE A RECALL? IT IS A SAFETY DEFECT. *TR
INTERMITTENTLY SHIFT DISPLAY AND DOOR LOCKS NOT WORKING. WHEN SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, THE TRUCK WOULD BUCK. LOCKS WOULD NOT UNLOCK WHEN PUT INTO PARK. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. CODE P0708 IN SYSTEM FOR PARK/NEUTRAL SWITCH. REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL SWITCH FOR A TOTAL OF $416.48. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 4X4 DIESEL. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD MISFIRE. THE NEXT MISFIRE WOULD RECUR 45 MINUTES LATER, AND THE THIRD MISFIRE WOULD NORMALLY RECUR AN HOUR AFTERWARDS. THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE CONTACT COULD NOT DRIVE OVER 25 MPH AND THE VEHICLE CONSTANTLY JERKED. IN JANUARY OF 2008, SHE TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED TWO FUEL INJECTORS. ON APRIL 2, 2008, THE DEALER REPLACED 8 FUEL INJECTORS. AFTER THE MOST RECENT FAILURE, THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. THEY COULD NOT LOCATE ANY FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING WHILE TRAVELING. IT FAILED COMPLETELY. IT CREATED A DANGEROUS SITUATION. *CN
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER GAUGE DESCENDED TO ZERO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF THEN RESTARTED AND THE FAILURE CEASED TO OCCUR. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED AN EXTENDED 7 YEAR, 70,000 MILE-WARRANTY ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IN NOVEMBER OF 2007 HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE HAS EXCEEDED THE MILEAGE REQUIREMENTS. AS OF JANUARY 4, 2008, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000. UPDATED02-14-08 *BF UPDATED 02/14/08 *TR
ON JANUARY 2, 2008 WHILE DRIVING OUR 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 4X4 ON A PAVED CITY STREET THE TWO FRONT TIE RODS SNAPPED IN HALF( DRIVERSIDE 1ST, PASSENGER ISDE 2ND) CAUSING THE TRUCK TO GO OUT OF CONTROL AND SKIDDING APPROXIMATELY 70 FEET FINALLY BEING STOPPED BY A CONCRETE CURVE. GM HAS REFUSED TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY IN THE FAILURE OF THEIR FACTORY EQUIPMENT. WE PURCHACED THE TRUCK FROM OUR NEIGHBOR WITH A" FAB TECH" 6 IN. LIFT KIT. THE FAB TECH COMPANY ALSO REFUSES TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY STATED THAT THEY HAVE SEEN MANY TIE ROD FAILURES WITH THE TIE RODS ON GM TRUCKS FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND THAT THAT THEY HAVE DESIGNED LARGER DIAMETER TIE RODS THAT ARE SOLD AS UPGRADED EQUIPMENT WITH THEIR LIFT KITS. 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH DEFECTIVE INSTRUMENT PANEL. CONSUMER STATES THAT HE FEELS HIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE SPECIAL COVERAGE WARRANTY, EVEN IF THE ODOMETER IS OVER 100,000 MILES. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS ERRATIC. THERE WERE MANY TIMES THE CONSUMER HAD TO PULL OVER, AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND BUMP THE IGNITION KEY SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL THE SPEEDOMETER RESET ITSELF BACK TO ZERO. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THAT THE 2004 SILVERADO STEPPER MOTORS WERE DEFECTIVE AT INSTALLATION. THE DEALER CONSIDERED THE SPEEDOMETER PROBLEM AS A MALFUNCTION AND NOT A COMPLETE FAILURE. *JB
SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER HAVE FAILS AT 35,000 MILES IN 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYS INCORRECT SPEEDS OR JUST FAILS COMPLETELY. HE NOTIFIED GENERAL MOTORS AND THEY AUTHORIZED A SPECIAL SERVICE NOTICE, OFFERING TO COVER THE DEFECT FOR UP TO 70,000 MILES. ADDITIONAL MILEAGE WOULD NOT BE COVERED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 77,000.
LOSS OF POWER STEERING (IN ONE DIRECTION ONLY) AT LOW SPEEDS. AFFECTS ABILITY TO PARK VEHICLE IN TIGHT SPOTS AND TO MAKE SLOW TURNS. HAVE MANAGED TO AVOID A ACCIDENT. THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR OVER A YEAR AND OVER THE LAST 15,000 MILES. THREE DIFFERENT MECHANICS GAVE VARIOUS POSSIBLE REASONS BUT NO ONE, INCLUDING THE GM SERVICE LINE, COULD GIVE A DEFINITE CURE. WAS TOLD "COULD TRY" POWER STEERING PUMP, STEERING BOX, ETC. ALL WERE COSTLY SOLUTIONS WITH NO GUARANTEE OF CURE. *TR
SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING. *TR
SPEEDOMETER WILL CHANGE FROM A CORRECT READING TO A ERRONEOUS READING WITH NO WARNING. IF I TURN ON AND OFF THE VEHICLE, THE SPEEDOMETER WILL RESET BACK 5 MPH EACH TIME I DO THIS UNTIL REST TO 0MPH AT A STAND STILL. IT WILL THEN CORRECTLY OPERATE FOR VARYING AMOUNTS OF TIME (50 - 500 MILES) BEFORE IT GOES HAYWIRE AGAIN. GM ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND HAS A POLICY IN PLACE TO REPAIR AT NO COST IF VEHICLE IS 7 YEARS OLD OR LESS AND LESS THAN 70,000 MILES. MY PROBLEM IS THAT MY VEHICLE IS A 2004 WITH NOW 144,000 MILES ON IT AND GM WILL DO NOTHING. INITIALLY I CONTACTED THEM ON MY OWN AND WAS DECLINED. AFTER I SENT A LETTER TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE IN MN, GM CONTACTED ME AND FOR A SECOND TIME DENIED HELPING CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. I'M CONTACTING YOU AT THE DIRECTION OF THE MN ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE. BOTTOMLINE IS THAT THE SPEEDOMETER IS NOT A CONVENIENCE FEATURE BUT A NECESSARY FEATURE REQUIRED TO SAFELY OPERATE THE VEHICLE. GM ACKNOWLEDGES THAT IT IS ENOUGH OF AN ISSUE THAT THEY HAVE A POLICY TO REPAIR OUTSIDE OF FACTORY WARRANTY HOWEVER FEEL THAT MY 3 1/2 YEAR OLD $50,000 VEHICLE IS PRECLUDED FROM THE SAME CONSIDERATION OF A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 70,000 MILES ON IT. DEALERS I HAVE SPOKE TO TELL ME THAT THIS PROBLEM IS SO COMMON THAT THEY REPAIR THESE DAILY. *TR
MY 2004 SILVERADO 2500HD HAS DEVELOPED THE FOLLOWING BRAKE CONCERN FOR THE PAST YEAR. WHEN STOPPING AS THE TRUCK SLOWS TO AROUND 10 MPH THE BRAKE PEDAL PLUSES AND DROPS TO A VERY LOW POSITION THAT RESULTS IN EXTENDING THE STOPPING DISTANCE. ALL FOUR ROTORS & PADS HAVE BEEN REPLACED ALONG WITH REMOVING CLEANING OF THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES AND I HAVE HAD SOME CLOSE CALLS THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A REAR END COLLISION. *TR
MY 2004 CHEVY 2500 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAS ISSUES. ON 12-24-07 ON A FAMILY CHRISTMAS TRIP MY SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CHEVROLET EXPLAINING THAT THEY WOULD COVER THIS ISSUE FOR 7 YEARS OR 70,000 MILES. IT SEEMS TO ME IF THEY KNOW THIS IS AN ISSUE WHY THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS. AFTER MANY DAYS OF CALLS TO CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY TELL ME THAT THIS IS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN AND THAT THERE WOULD BE NO RECALL ISSUED. NOW I ASK HOW CAN THIS NOT BE A SAFETY CONCERN NOT KNOWING THE SPEED YOU ARE GOING? THE NEXT ISSUE I HAVE THAT I ALSO FEEL IS A SAFETY CONCERN IS THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING LINK. THIS AGAIN HAS SLACK AND RATTLES. ONCE AGAIN CHEVROLET STATES THIS IS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN BUT HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT A PART OF THE STEERING ASSY. IS NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY ITEM? *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER MAULFUNCTIONS RESULTING IN DISPLAY OF INCORRECT SPEED. GM ACKNOWLEDGES THE EQUIPMENT FAILURE AND WILL NOT HONOR THE RECALL. *CN
WE HAVE A 2004 SILVERADO. ON FRIDAY, DEC. 21 THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED TO STICK. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED IT WILL GO AS LOW AS 30 MPH. WHEN DRIVING THE SPEEDO SAYS ABOUT 110-120 MPH. THERE IS (WITHOUT GOING AND LOOKING) ABOUT 38,300 MILES ON THE TRUCK. WE BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW IN FEB. OF 2003. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

THIS IS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO AND GM HAS ALREADY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THIS ITEM FOR 7 YEARS OR 70,000 MILES. THIS IS AN ELECTRONICS PROBLEM AND MILEAGE SHOULD NOT BE A FACTOR ON IT. THE MILEAGE HAS NO BEARING THE ELECTRONIC FUNCTIONALITY OF THIS DEVICE. IT SHOULD BE TIME AND TIME ONLY THAT DICTATES THE LIFE OF THIS COMPONENT. *TR
04 SILVERADO WITH 46,000 MILES, SPEEDOMETER HAS MALFUNCTIONED. SOMETIMES WILL BE PEGGED WHILE STOPPED,SOMETIMES WILL READ 60 WHEN STOPPED. I THINK GM SHOULD REPLACE THESE OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE PARTS, PLUS PAY FOR ALL TICKETS ACQUIRED IN THESE DEFECTIVE VEHICLES. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A "TREND" HERE PEOPLE(NHTSA),WHEN I GET MY NEXT NEW TRUCK ($30,000-$40,000), I MAY BE LOOKING ELSEWHERE. TRUCK IS NOT FIXED YET, BUT WILL BE CONTACTING THE DEALER TOMORROW TO HEAR "THEIR SOB STORY". HAVE NEVER RECEIVED A LETTER FROM ANYONE REGARDING THIS,BUT DID ACQUIRE THE VEHICLE NEW,OFF THE LOT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE MANUFACTURER ADVISING HIM TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR A SPEEDOMETER REPAIR. IF THE MILEAGE WAS UNDER 70,000 MILES, THE REPAIR WOULD BE FREE. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE HAS EXCEEDED THE MILEAGE REQUIREMENT, BUT IT IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE AS STATED IN THE LETTER. THE DEALER WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYS THE INCORRECT SPEED, CAUSING HIM TO NOT KNOW HOW FAST HE IS DRIVING. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 108,124.
I HAVE TWO 2004 CHEVROLET PICKUP TRUCKS THAT HAVE FAULTY FACTORY INSTALLED SPEEDOMETERS. CHEVROLET IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS SENT LETTERS REGARDING WARRANTY REPAIR OF THESE VEHICLES, BUT ONLY IF THE MILEAGE IS LESS THAN 70,000 MILES. BOTH MY VEHICLES HAVE RIGHT AT 100,000 MILES EACH. THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE. BEING UNABLE TO DETERMINE AT WHAT SPEED YOU ARE DRIVING CAUSES UNSAFE CONDITIONS FOR THE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLES AS WELL AS THE GENERAL PUBLIC. WHEN I TALKED TO JENNIFER CAMACHO AT CHEVROLET TODAY (1-800-630-2438) SHE ORIGINALLY TOLD ME THAT EACH DEALER HAD THE DISCRETION TO WARRANTY THESE VEHICLES FOR THEIR "GOOD. LOYAL CUSTOMERS" EVEN IF THE MILEAGE WAS OVER THE 70,000 FIGURE. I BELIEVE THAT CHEVROLET, IN THE INTEREST OF PUBLIC SAFETY, SHOULD WARRANTY ALL THE VEHICES THEY HAVE SOLD WITH THESE FAULTY GAUGES. BEARING IN FRONT AXLES CAME APART. CAUSING METALS TO GO THROUGH ALL OF THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL DRIVETRAIN. COMPLETE FRONT DRIVETRAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TRUCK WAS 1500 MILES AND 2 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY AND DEALER COULD DO NOTHING TO HELP OUT WITH COST OF REPAIR. THIS BEARING SHOULD HAVE NOT CAME APART. FLUID LEVELS WERE GOOD, NO LEAKS, AND MAINT PER MANUFACTURERS SCHEDULE WAS ALWAYS PERFORMED. *TR
I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM SAYING THAT MY 2004 SILVERADO COULD HAVE A FAULTY ODOMETER BUT IF THE VEHICLE HAS MORE THAN 75,000 MILES IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED. I THEN SAW A NEWS STORY ON A LOCAL DALLAS NEWS STATION COVERING THE SAME ISSUE. BELOW IS THE INFORMATION I SENT TO THE NEWS STATION. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SEGMENT LAST NIGHT IN REGARDS TO THE GM SPEED ODOMETER ISSUE. I HAVE A 2004 GM TRUCK AND HAVE A PROBLEM WITH BOTH THE TACHOMETER AND THE SPEEDOMETER. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL GM DEALER ABOUT A YEAR AGO ASKING IF THERE WAS ANY RECALL INFORMATION AND THEY TOLD ME NO. I JUST ASSUMED MY CASE WAS ISOLATED AND WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR OR LIVE WITH IT. THEN ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM STATING A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MY MODEL YEAR. BUT UNLESS MY TRUCK HAD LESS THAN 70,000 MILES IT WAS NOT COVERED. I CAN NOT BELIEVE GM IS NOT WILLING TO ISSUE A RECALL OR THAT THE NHTSA DOES NOT VIEW THIS AS A SAFETY CONCERN. IN ALMOST EVERY AUTO COLLISION STORY OR STATISTIC I CAN FIND, IT NAMES SPEED AS THE NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. A POSSIBLE DIFFERENT ANGLE ON THIS TOPIC IS GM OWNER LOYALTY. THE PROBLEM AFFECTS 2003 AND 2004 MODEL YEARS. BASED ON 80% TO 90% OF ALL CARS ON THE ROAD ARE FINANCED AND MOST PEOPLE ONLY KEEP A VEHICLE 4 1/2 YEARS, THERE WILL BE MANY PEOPLE THAT ARE AFFECTED BY THIS PROBLEM THAT WILL BE LOOKING TO TRADE IN VERY SOON. IF MOST CONSUMERS ARE LIKE ME THEY WILL PERCEIVE THIS ISSUE AS VERY NEGATIVE TOWARD GM. IT SEAMS LIKE A VERY LARGE GAMBLE ON GM'S PART FOR SUCH AN INEXPENSIVE REPAIR. INTERMITTENT AND ERRONEOUS OPERATION OF THE SPEEDOMETER IN MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 DIESEL TRUCK. THE SPEEDOMETER FREQUENTLY INDICATES THE WRONG SPEEDS, AT TIME OVER +100MPH. AT OTHER TIMES, INDICATES SPEEDS LESS THAN ACTUAL OR FREEZES ALTOGETHER. GM REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE ISSUE OR OFFER TO REPAIR. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND CAN RESULT IN DRIVING AT SPEEDS ABOVE OR BELOW POSTED LIMITS. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2004 CHEVY 2500 HD LAST FALL AND NOW MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS STICKING AND ON OCCASION GIVING FALSE READINGS. THE NEEDLE OF THE SPEEDOMETER WAS STUCK ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND THE RPM NEEDLE DOES NOT READ ACCURATELY> I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF ANY OF THE OTHER GAUGES ARE WORKING PROPERLY. INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS FAILING. FIRST WAS THE SPEEDOMETER, THEN THE TACHOMETER, FOLLOWED BY OIL PRESSURE GAUGE. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW FAST I AM TRAVELING OR IF MY OIL PUMP IS WORKING. THE SPEEDOMETER PART IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE TO ME. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ, THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF GM VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM AND THEY REFUSE TO DO A RECALL. *TR
2004 CHEVY SILVERADO SPEEDOMETER BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION . IT WOULD OCCASIONALLY WORK BUT NOW IT HAS QUIT WORKING ALTOGETHER. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL. THE COMPANY REFUSES TO REPLACE DUE TO MILEAGE, EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, HE SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE TAIL PIPE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE INJECTORS CAUSED THE FAILURE. AS OF JANUARY 11, 2008, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE 87,900 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 88,546.

I AM EXPERIENCING THE STEERING CLUNK THAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH CHEVROLET'S TRUCKS. UPON TURNING IT IN IN FOR SERVICE I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD COST $280 TO FIX IT. I ONLY DRIVE MY TRUCK APPROX 6K MILES PER YEAR UNDER VERY LIGHT DUTY. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A HEAVY DUTY VEHICLE THAT WEARS OUT FROM VERY LITTLE LIGHT USE TO BE SOLD LIKE THIS. THE TRUCK HAS 27,700 MILES NOW AND STARTED HAVING THE PROBLEM AT APPROX 18K MILES. I CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT THIS MEANS I WILL HAVE TO PAY ABOUT $300 EVERY 18K MILES TO FIX A DEFECTIVE, POORLY ENGINEERED PRODUCT. IS THIS PART GOING TO FAIL AT SOME POINT AND CAUSE A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL? *TR
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL GAUGES WORK SPORADIC, OR NOT AT ALL. SPEEDOMETER READS OVER 120 MPH ALL THE TIME, AND GAS GAUGE DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. I HAVE NOT REPAIRED THEM YET BECAUSE OF COST ($500+ LABOR AND PROGRAMMING FEES). *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE DEPRESSES THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE VIBRATES EXCESSIVELY. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED AND TURNED THE ROTORS DOWN. AFTER 7,000 MILES, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER STATED THAT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE EXCEEDED THE WARRANTY, THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS TO REPLACE THE BRAKE ROTORS. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. LEFT BRAKE LIGHT CONTINUES TO STOP WORKING. BULB IS GOOD, STILL WON'T WORK. DRIVERS SIDE BACK UP LIGHT IS THE SAME WAY. THEY MAY WORK , MAY NOT. *TR
I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH THE GAUGES IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL JUST LAST WEEK, THEREFORE POSSIBLY MAKING THE SPEEDOMETER OFF. JUST THIS PAST WEEK I LOOKED DOWN AND WAS GOING 120 I HAVE NO IDEA HOW FAST I'M GOING AND EVEN MORE INTERESTING NO RECALL. I LOOK AND SEE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS. WE PURCHASED A NEW 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO THAT CURRENTLY HAS ONLY 11,475 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I WAS INFORMED DURING A SAFETY INSPECTION THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS AND BRAKES NEED TO BE REPLACED (COMPLETE) AND HAD COMMENTED HE HAS EXPERIENCED "MANY FAILURES" SUCH AS MINE. FAILURE DUE TO POROUS CASTING OF ROTORS CAUSING PADS TO BECOME UNUSABLE. SERVICING DEALER THAT INSPECTED FAILURE LISTED AS RUST? THE REPAIR WILL COST IN EXCESS OF $700.00. IN RESEARCHING THE FAILURE I FOUND INTERESTING DOCUMENTATION THAT THE FAILURE OF THE ROTOR MATERIAL HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLET PRODUCTS AND MANY CLAIMS HAVE BEEN FILED WITH THE NHTSA. I AM AWARE CHEVROLET HAS PAID CLAIMS TO OTHERS WITH THE SAME CONDITIONS AND I FEEL THE NHTSA SHOULD LOOK AT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE THERE ARE FATALITIES CAUSED BY THIS MATERIAL FAILURE. REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE BY CHEVROLET AT NOT COST TO ME HOWEVER I WAS NOT ENTITLED TO THE ORIGINAL PARTS SINCE COST TO ME WAS WAIVED. NOW WE CAN ONLY HOPE THE NEW ROTORS HAVE A BETTER SERVICE LIFE THEN THE ORIGINAL SET. *TR
MY 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO SPEEDOMETER KEEPS STICKING AT 55 OR 60 WHEN I TRAVEL FOR MORE THAN 20 MILES ITS REALLY UNSAFE AND ENDED UP PAYING A 191.00 SPEEDING TICKET OVER THIS. MY SPEEDOMETER WAS STUCK AT 50 WHEN I WAS REALLY DOING 65 AND I DIDN'T NOTICE I TOLD THE OFFICER BUT HE SAID TO HAVE SOMEONE CHECK IT OUT. I AM A FAIRLY GOOD MECHANIC ALSO A ELECTRICIAN. I KNOW IT IS THE STEPPER MOTOR IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. I JUST DON'T HAVE THE FUNDS TO FIX IT MYSELF WHEN I AM PAYING SPEEDING TICKETS THIS SHOULD BE A DEFINITE RECALL I HAVE READ SO MANY COMPLAINTS OVER THE INTERNET. SPEEDOMETER IS SOMETIMES PINNED AT 120MPH SOMETIMES 60 MPH WHEN PARKED . DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO IS ACTING UP. THE NEEDLE IS TICKING LIKE A CLOCK AS I ACCELERATE AND SLOW DOWN. I HAVE HEARD AND READ ABOUT MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME EXACT PROBLEM ON THIS MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR VEHICLE. *TR
AT APPROX 65,000 MILES MY SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING ALONG WITH OTHER GAUGES IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. GM REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. WHEN I HAD 80,000 MILES GM OFFERED TO FIX THE DEFECT ONLY ON VEHICLES WITH LESS THAN 70,000 MILES. THEY REFUSED TO CORRECT THE DEFECT ON MY VEHICLE. THE DEALER ESTIMATES THE COST TO FIX THIS DEFECT AT APPROX $450.00 I NOW HAVE APPROX 105,000 MILES AND CONTINUE TO DRIVE WITHOUT A WORKING SPEEDOMETER. THIS VEHICLE AND MANY WITH THIS SAME DEFECT IS USED FOR TOWING. GM HAS PUT PROFIT AHEAD OF SAFETY AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. THE NTSB HAS CONTINUED TO ALLOW THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES TO OPERATE UNSAFELY WITH THIS WELL KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED DEFECT BY FAILING TO FORCE GM TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES MANY OF WHICH WERE STILL BEING MANUFACTURE AFTER THE DEFECT WAS DISCOVERED. *TR

BOX 100 DETROIT, MI 48265-1000 CERTIFIED MAIL NUMBER: 7007 1490 0000 9298 4767 TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I HAVE RECEIVED YOUR LETTER REGARDING THE 2004 MODEL YEAR CHEVROLET SILVERADO WHEREBY GENERAL MOTORS IS PROVIDING EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. GENERAL MOTORS WROTE: "THIS LETTER IS INTENDED TO MAKE YOU AWARE THAT YOUR VEHICLE COULD DEVELOP A CONDITION WHERE ONE OR MORE OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGE NEEDLES MAY STICK, FLUTTER, OR BECOME INOPERATIVE." HOWEVER, GENERAL MOTORS ALSO WROTE: "IF THE CONDITION OCCURS ON YOUR 2004 MODEL YEAR CHEVROLET SILVERAD WITHIN 7 YEARS OF THE DATE YOUR VEHICLE WAS ORIGINALLY PLACED IN SERVICE OR 70,000 MILES, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST, THE CONDITION WILL BE REPAIRED FOR YOU AT NO CHARGE." FRANKLY, I FIND THE MILEAGE RESTRICTION LUDICROUS! EITHER THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IS DEFECTIVE OR IT IS NOT! MOREOVER, IF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILS WHEN DRIVING, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT, PUBLIC SAFETY BECOMES AN ISSUE......... *TR
MY 04 CHEVY SILVERADO SS HAS LOST THE GAS GAGE AND THE RPM GAGE IS STICKING. THE ONLY GAS GAGE THAT I HAVE IS THE DIGITAL ONE. THE RPM GAGE HAS STARTED STICKING. WHEN THE GAS GAGE STARTED STICKING I TALKED TO THE CHEVY SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY SAID A GAS CLEANER THEY SOLD WOULD MOST LIKELY FIX THE PROBLEM. WE HAVE DONE TWO TREATMENTS WITH NO LUCK. TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY THE RPM GAGE IS STICKING. BY THE SOUNDS OF ALL THE OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS IT WILL BE STUCK SOON.
