SPEEDOMETER/TACH DON'T WORK, FUEL GAUGE IS INCORRECT. THE VEHICLE IS AN 04 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 2X4. PURCHASED NEW IN 04, WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND, WHEN HE DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE SPEEDOMETER MOVED FROM 50 TO 120 MPH. THE VEHICLE IS 900 MILES OVER THE 70,000 MILE OR SEVEN YEAR SPECIAL ORDER. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT, OF WHICH HE WOULD LIKE TO BE INCLUDED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 79,300.

MY 2004 SILVERADO TACHOMETER AND FUEL GAGE ARE TOTALLY ERRATIC OR NOT WORKING BEGINNING AROUND 73,000 MILES. I JUST HAVE TO GUESS WHAT FUEL I HAVE IN THE TANK AND FILL UP FREQUENTLY. HAD A FLAT AND COULD NOT REMOVE SPARE, REMOVED ENTIRE HOIST SYSTEM AND FOUND THE SECONDARY LATCHING SYSTEM TOTALLY FROZE UP, SO JUST THREW THE TIRE IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK. COST A TOW TO GET HOME WITH A LOAD OF CHRISTMAS GIFTS. *TR

MY SPEEDOMETER STARTED ACTING UP SAYING THAT I WAS GOING FASTER THAN I WAS GOING. NOW IT STAYS ON 120 AND NOW MY OIL PRESSURE GAUGE IS STARTING TO DO THE SAME. *TR
TRUCK CUT OUT WHILE ON THE FREEWAY; ABLE TO GET IT RESTARTED. LATER WHILE TRYING TO GET HOME IT STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. CHEVY SERVICE DEALER KNEW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS-- HE TOLD ME IT WAS DUE TO A BROKEN WIRE PRIMARY AT COIL CONNECTOR. THAT THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. PART WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $141.37. IF THIS PART IS DEFECTIVE WHY IS NOT RECALLED? *TR
WHILE DRIVING AROUND 65-70MPH MY SPEEDOMETER STUCK. WHILE SLOWING DOWN AFTER REACHING SPEEDS OF NEARLY 70MPH, I REALIZED MY SPEEDOMETER WAS NOT BACKING OFF OF THIS SPEED. I THEN DID NOT KNOW HOW FAST I WAS DRIVING. THE SPEEDOMETER IS NOW STUCK AT 67MPH. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THIS ACTUAL UNIT FOR $500. I HAVE SEEN THIS SAME ISSUE ALL OVER FORUMS ON THE WEB. *TR
GAUGES NOT WORKING. FIRST THE TEMP GAGE WOULD BOTTOM OUT IN EITHER DIRECTION OR START IN BETWEEN; CHECKED ALL COOLING DEVICES/FLUIDS. THEN FUEL GAGE WOULD SIT ANYWHERE REGARDLESS OF ACTUAL FUEL; NO LEAKS OR STOPPAGES, AIRWAYS CLEAR. THEN SPEEDOMETER STICKS; AT A STOP WOULD SIT ANYWHERE FROM 20-65 AND START OFF FROM THIS POINT. I'M DOING THE MATH WHILE DRIVING TO MAINTAIN SPEED LIMIT. *TR

THEY WARRANTY COVERS INJECTORS REPLACEMENT OF 2001-2003 CHEVY DURAMAX DIESELS MY TRUCK IS A 2004 WITH A 2003 ENGINE AND HAS INJECTORS REPLACED AT 63000 MILES ALREADY AND BECAUSE MY TRUCK IS AN 04 WITH A 03 ENGINE THEY DENY THE CLAIM BUT ALLOW THE 2001-2003 OWNERS INJECTORS TO BE REPLACED. *JB

I OWN A 2004 SILVERADO. AS WITH AN EVER GROWING LIST OF FELLOW OWNERS OF CHEVY AND GMC 2000 TO 2005 TRUCKS, THE SPEEDOMETER HAS QUIT WORKING WITH ONLY 40,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD NOT BEING ABLE TO KNOW THE SPEED AT WHICH OUR VEHICLES ARE TRAVELING AT! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR WHEN DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO FIRST GEAR. THE VEHICLE COASTED FOR THREE MINUTES BEFORE IT STOPPED. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS NOT APPLIED. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME WITHOUT FUNCTIONING BRAKES. HE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY A SPLIT LEFT ROTOR. THE ROTOR WAS REPLACED. THE DEFECTIVE ROTOR IS AVAILABLE, IF NEEDED. TACHOMETER & SPEEDOMETER FAILURE AT LOW TEMPERATURES
THERE IS A BANGING IN THE STEERING COLUMN. *JB
AFTER 29,000 MILES, I STARTED HEARING A CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING SHAFT DURING LOW SPEED MANEUVERS (MAINLY TURNING TO THE LEFT). AT 32,000 MILES I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER WHILE THE TRUCK WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALER SHOP MANAGER KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND THAT AT THE TIME THERE WAS NO RECALL, BUT HE EXPECTED ONE SOON. I WAS TOLD THAT THE GREASE IN THE STEERING SHAFT WOULD RUN OUT DUE TO ITS PROXIMITY TO THE ENGINE BLOCK AND THE HEAT COMING FROM IT. HIS FIX WAS TO INJECT GREASE BACK IN VIA A SYRINGE. SOLVED THE PROBLEM IN ABOUT 45 MINUTES, BUT NOW AFTER 23,000 MILES SINCE THE LAST REPAIR, THE PROBLEM STAR AGAIN. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE HAS BEEN MALFUNCTIONING--NOT MOVING FROM A SPECIFIC SPEED, NOT CALIBRATING TO ZERO MPH AND MAKING A "CLICKING" NOISE WHEN STARTING THE ENGINE. *JB
STEERING. 2ND TIME SHAFT IS LOOSE AND FEELS AS IF IT IS NOT CONNECTED. *JB
2004 SILVERADO 2500 HD ABS KICKS IN AT SLOW SPEEDS. NOW ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT ARE ALWAYS ON AND I GET DINGING SOUND FROM WARNING SYSTEM WITH MESSAGE SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM. *TR
PURCHASED THE TRUCK AND ONE WEEK LATER, THE GAS GAUGE STARTED STICKING & GOING CRAZY. NEXT WENT TACHOMETER FOLLOWED BY THE AMP HAND. HAVE A 126,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK - EVERYTHING ELSE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO QUIT WORKING. I WAS DRIVING 75 MPH ON THE FREEWAY WHEN IT STARTED TO DROP. I DROVE ABOUT 80 MILES. BY THE TIME I GOT HOME , IT HAD QUIT WORKING COMPLETELY. NOW IT SITS AT ZERO AND "BOUNCES" A LITTLE. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING UPHILL AT 55 MPH, THE ENGINE FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HE REPRIMED THE FUEL FILTER AND THE VEHICLE DROVE APPROXIMATELY A MILE AND A HALF BEFORE IT SHUT OFF AGAIN. HE HAD TO REPRIME THE FILTER AGAIN. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO COOL OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE STATION AND THE MECHANIC SPOKE WITH CHEVROLET, WHO WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY RECALLS. ELECTRICAL PANEL GAUGES (SPEEDOMETER) QUIT WORKING AT 68,000 MILES. I FILED A COMPLAINT. CHEVROLET NOTIFIED ME BY LETTER THEY WOULD REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART IF MY VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 70,000 MILES. BY THE TIME I GOT THE LETTER MY VEHICLE HAD OVER 70,000 MILES. NOW CHEVROLET WILL NOT REPAIR THE DEFECTIVE PART. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH FOR 20 MINUTES USING THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE SPEEDOMETER READING WAS 95 MPH AND THE RPM WAS 2000. HE DIDN'T NOTICE ANY WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE SPEEDOMETER READ 45 MPH. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ELECTRICAL INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL CLUSTERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE HAS NOT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 32,640.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS SENSORS MALFUNCTIONED WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND ALMOST STRUCK A SCHOOL BUS. THE FAILURE WORSENED OVER TIME. HE STATED THAT 4 OUT OF 5 TIMES, WHEN HE WOULD ATTEMPT TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE ABS WOULD MALFUNCTION AND PREVENT SUFFICIENT BRAKING CONTROL. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE HUBS WERE CORRODED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 52,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000. UPDATED 6/2/08 *CN 06/02/08

I OWN A 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO WITH APPROXIMATELY 52000 MILES ON IT. WHEN TRYING TO COME TO A STOP THE ABS BRAKES PULSATE AND THE PEDAL DROPS TO THE FLOOR, RESULTING IN POOR BRAKING DISTANCE OR STOPPING IN GENERAL. I HAVE PUT NEW ROTORS AND PADS ON FRONT AND BACK AXLES AND IT DID NOT HELP. NOW I FIND THAT THERE IS RECALL ON PREVIOUS YEAR SILVERADO. I BELIEVE THAT THIS RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED BECAUSE MY PICKUP IS A 04 AND IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. I'M AFRAID SOMEBODY IS GOING TO GET HURT OR MAYBE WORSE. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. G M FINALLY SENT NOTICES TO OWNERS OF AFFECTED VEHICLES BUT MINE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS SEEMS TO BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM POSING POSSIBLE DANGER TO THE OWNERS AND OTHER DRIVERS. TAKING MY SON TO SCHOOL AND WHILE DRIVING PAST THE HIGH SCHOOL, I NOTICED MY SPEEDOMETER WAS SHOWING ME DRIVING OVER 70 MPH. CONCERNED THAT I WAS TRAVELING TOO FAST AND WORRIED ABOUT GETTING A TICKET, I SLOWED VERY DRASTICLY TO SLOW DOWN TO THE POSTED (DURING SCHOOL HOURS SPEED LIMIT), CAUSING A NEAR TRAFFIC ACCIDENT FROM VEHICLE BEHIND ME. MEAN WHILE, YOUNG HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT WERE DISTRACTED WHILE CROSSING THE ROAD BECAUSE OF MY ABRUPT SPEED CHANGE. AFTER SLOWING DOWN, I NOTICE THAT WHILE ALMOST STOPPED, MY SPEEDOMETER WAS CONTINUING TO SHOW SPEEDS OVER 50MPH. THIS ALL HAPPENED WITH MY MILAGE SHOWING AROUND 85,000 MILES. THE NEXT DAY, I RECIEVE A NOTICE FROM GM SAYING THAT THE VEHICLE MAY EXPERIANCE SPEEDOMETER PROBLEMS AND THAT GM WILL REPAIR THE PROBLEM WITH VEHICLES LESS THAN 70.000 MILES. SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALERS AND HAVE HEARD PRICE FROM $750 TO $1200 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING VERY CAREFUL AND BEEN WAITING FOR GM TO RECALL ALL TRUCKS WITH THE PROBLEMS. I AM TRIED OF WAITING AND FEEL THAT I AM AT RISK FOR NOT HAVING THE PROPER SPEED SHOWN. MEANWHILE, MY OIL PRESSURE GAUGE IS FAILING WHICH CAUSE ENGING ALARM TO SOUND AND I CAN NO LONGER TRUST MY FUEL GAUGE BECAUSE IT WILL SHOW HALF FULL WHEN IT IS COMPLETELY EMPTY. THESE ARE ALL SAFETY PROBLEMS IN MY EYES. *TR

HE ALSO HEARD A POPPING NOISE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE ISSUE HAS OCCURRED EVER SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE DEALER STATED THAT DUE TO THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE LACK OF A WARRANTY, THEY WOULD NOT MAKE ANY REPAIRS. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE THAT MUST BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,816.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. AFTER PUTTING GAS IN THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT SMELLED SMOKE. HE CHECKED UNDERNEATH THE HOOD AND SAW NO SIGNS OF A FIRE. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, FLAMES AND SMOKE BEGAN TO COME FROM THE VENTS AND THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE. APPROXIMATELY TWENTY MINUTES LATER, WHILE WAITING FOR THE FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS TO ARRIVE, THE TIRES AND WINDOWS EXPLODED AND THE VEHICLE WAS BURNED BEYOND RECOGNITION. HE SPOKE WITH THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WAS NO CURRENT MILEAGE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR WHEN DEPRESSED. AS OF SEPTEMBER 10, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. NO SPECIFIC EVENT LED TO THIS INCIDENT OTHER THAN FAULTY ENGINEERING. THE PUMP WITHIN MY TRUCKS TRANSFER CASE HAS WORN A HOLE THROUGH THE CASING. THIS IS A VERY PREVALENT PROBLEM IN THIS MODEL TRUCK. SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER HAVE BOTH FAILED. WITH THE KEY OFF IT READS 4200RPM AND OVER 120MPH CHEVY KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM AND WONT COVER IT BECAUSE I HAVE OVER 70,000 MILES. BUT THEY KNOW THE PROBLEM IS THERE AND I WOULD THINK NOT KNOWING YOUR SPEED IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IT WILL COST ME OVER $400.00 TO FIX THIS AND I THINK CHEVY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS COST. *TR

I ASKED A FRIEND OF MINE WHO IS ALSO A SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND HIS RESPONSE WAS ?OHHH YEAH, I DON?T KNOW WHY THEY HAVEN?T RECALLED IT YET. CHEVROLET MAY NOT BE CONSIDERING THIS A SAFETY ISSUE, BUT IF THAT IS THE CASE WHY DO WE EVEN HAVE SPEED LIMITS? SPEED LIMITS ARE INTENDED TO PROVIDE FOR THE SAFETY OF THE COMMUNITY, WILL A PERSON WITH OUT A WORKING SPEEDOMETER BE ABLE TO STOP IN TIME WHEN A CHILD RUNS OUT IN FRONT THEM? I BOUGHT MY 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO IN MAY OF 2007 WHEN I TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE ALL SEEMED TO BE IN GOOD OPERATING CONDITION. LATER THAT WINTER I STARTED TO NOTICE A CLUNKING SOUND IN THE DASH AREA AROUND THE STEERING COLUMN AND ON A FEW OCCASIONS THE STEERING SEEMED TO GET STIFF OR HARD TO TURN MOSTLY AT LOW SPEEDS SUCH AS IN A PARKING LOT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM, BUT TO MY SURPRISE WHEN I PICKED UP THE TRUCK THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. MY SON NOW WORKS FOR THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND HAS TOLD ME ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING SHAFT BUT MY DEALER REFUSES TO ADMIT ANY DEFECTS. *TR
CLUNKING NOISE FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. WAS TOLD THIS WAS CHRONIC PROBLEM BY A LOT OF OTHER OWNERS. *TR

EVERYTIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN, THE AIR CONDITIONING CHANGES FROM HOT TO COLD, THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYS INACCURATE READINGS, AND THE TACHOMETER DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. THE CONTACT HAD TO CONSTANTLY RESTART THE VEHICLE IN ORDER FOR THE COMPONENTS TO WORK PROPERLY. HE RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER REGARDING THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, BUT IT WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,400 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH MY SPEEDOMETER, HEAT, AND GAS GAUGES. THE SPEEDOMETER WILL SET AT 60MPH OR IT WILL NOT WORK AT ALL. THAN IT WILL START WORKING WHEN IT FEELS LIKE IT. MY TEMP. GAGE WILL GO TO THE RED LINE OR IT WON'T MOVE AT ALL. MY GAS GAGE WILL SET ON EMPTY WHEN IT FULL OR IT WILL WORK WHEN IT FEELS LIKE IT. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME AND CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH ON HOW FAST YOUR GOING OR NOT GOING, AND WITH THE OTHER GAUGES YOU DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE GAS OR DON'T, AND WITH THE HEAD GAUGES THAT CAN SCARE YOU. *TR

THE TIRE SIZE WAS W255/55/R18 105, BUT SHOULD HAVE BEEN W255/55/R18 109. ON AUGUST 16, 2007, THE TIRES WERE LOW, CRACKING, AND BULGING EVEN THOUGH A LOT OF TREAD STILL REMAINED. THE POWERTRAIN AND DOT NUMBER WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 25,110.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. IT IS A SALVAGED VEHICLE. BOTH THE SPEEDOMETER AND ALTERNATOR FAILED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM GM, BUT BECAUSE HE OWNS A SALVAGED VEHICLE, THE REPAIR WAS REFUSED. GM STATED THAT THEY WERE ONLY RESPONSIBLE FOR SMOG REGARDING HIS VEHICLE. 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD PICKUP THAT CAUGHT FIRE CUSTOMER STATES THAT HE WAS DRIVING WHEN HE BEGAN TO SMELL SMOKE AND THEN NOTICED THAT SPARKS WERE COMING FROM THE FRONT WHEEL**CC THE VEHICLE BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THERE WAS NO CAUSE OF THE FIRE. *JB
WHEN PLACING THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE/REVERSE AFTER START UP, THE ON BOARD DIAGNOSTICS REPORTS "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM". A COMPLETE BRAKE INSPECTION HAS BEEN PERFORMED WITH NO INDICATION OF ANY TYPE OF ISSUE. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. IF THE DIAGNOSTICS REPORTS THIS FAILURE, I CAN TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND WAIT A FEW SECONDS AND RE-START THE VEHICLE WITH NO FAILURE REPORT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, MELBOURNE CHEVROLET, MELBOURNE, FL, THEY REPORTED THAT THEY WERE AWARE THAT IF A VEHICLE REMAINED IDLE FOR ANY PERIOD OF TIME, THIS TYPE OF CODE WOULD BE A RESULT OF SALT WATER CORROSION. I HAVE 28,000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT GM HAS HAD SIMILAR RECALLS ON THE SILVERADO'S BUT NOT FOR MY YEAR/AREA. *TR
