THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE SWAY BAR MOUNTING BRACKET BROKE, CAUSING THE FRAME AND MOUNTING BAR TO COME OFF. THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND IT WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. *AK THE FRONT SWAY BAR MOUNTAIN BRACKET BROKE OFF AT THE WELD AND CAUSED ABNORMAL "ROLL" CONTROL AND HARD STEERING. *SC *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING OVER BUMPS OR MAKING TURNS AT 10 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE RESULTED FROM THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT, BUT IT WAS NOT REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS NOT A SAFETY HAZARD. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INSIGNIFICANT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000. UPDATED 03-27-09 *BF
AFTER READING ABOUT THE PROBLEMS WITH TAILGATES ON GM VEHICLES, I CHECKED MINE. I NOTICED THAT THE LEFT ONE WAS LOOSE AND NOT SUPPORTING ANY OF THE WEIGHT OF THE TAILGATE WHEN THE GATE WAS OPEN. AS I EXAMINED IT FURTHER, IT CAME APART IN MY HAND. THE ONLY THING HOLDING IT TOGETHER WAS THE PLASTIC. *NM
MOISTURE CAME THROUGH THE VENTS IN THE DASHBOARD ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE RADIO, SO MUCH THAT CONSUMER'S HANDS GOT WET IF HE TOUCHED IT. CONSUMER HAD BEEN HOSPITALIZED DUE TO THE FUNGUS, OR MOLD THAT GREW FROM THIS MOISTURE. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THEY CUT A HOLE IN THE AIR HOUSING AND POURED A CHEMICAL INSIDE TO KILL THE FUNGUS. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
CLUNKING AND LOOSENESS IN STEERING COLUMN. 2004 6.0 LITER HD 2500 CHEVROLET. FEELS LIKE STEERING MAY FAIL ON VEHICLE IF SOMETHING IS NOT CORRECTED. *TR
I HAVE THE EXT. CAB AND ON THE LITTLE WINDOWS ON THE BACK DOORS I'VE HAD THEM REPLACED. THEN THEY PUT SOME WASHERS ON THE LATCH AND THEY STILL LEAK AIR. *JB

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON AN ICY ROAD THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED WHICH CAUSED THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE TO ENGAGE AUTOMATICALLY IN 2 WHEEL DRIVE. *NM
WAS HAVING TROUBLE WITH TRUCK PULLING FROM RIGHT TO LEFT AND BACK. TOOK BACK TO DEALER TO CHECK AND DEALER REPAIR SHOP SAID THAT THE FRONT END HAD NOT BEEN ALIGNED NOR SUPPOSSEDLY THE STEERING COLUMN NOT PROPERLY SECURED. *AK
THE VEHICLE'S BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. *NM
MUSHY BRAKE PEDAL GOES ALMOST TO FLOOR AND REQUIRES EXTREME PRESSURE ON PEDAL, ESPECIALLY AT SLOW SPEEDS, WORSE WITH LOAD. NO CONSEQUENCES YET. PROBLEM SINCE NEW AND DEALER SAID BRAKES WOULD WEAR IN OK, NOW 40,000 MI AND PROBLEM WORSE.*AK
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION.*MR....TRANSMISSION BANGS WHEN SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR AND DOWNSHIFTS HARD FROM 3RD TO 2ND GEAR. REPORTED PROBLEM TO DEALER IN FEBRUARY 2004 AT 3796 MILES. REPAIRED ON MARCH 2, 2004 AS PER BULLETIN 1430080. PROBLEM RECURRED AND WAS REPORTED TO DEALER IN OCTOBER 2004, AND DEALER INDICATED IT WAS NORMAL AS PER BULLETIN 1430424. AT THIS TIME, SERVICE MANAGER PROVIDED BULLETIN 1538220 WHICH STATED THAT PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED IN TRANSMISSION BUILT AFTER FEBRUARY 2004. PROBLEM AGAIN RECURRED IN NOVEMBER 2004 AND MARCH 2005, AND DEALER STATED THAT IT WAS JUST EXCESSIVE DRIVE LINE LASH. CONSUMER REPORTED THIS TO GM, AND THEY INCREASED WARRANTY TERMS TO 5 YEARS/75000 MILES. CONSUMER CLAIMED WARRANRY WAS NO HELP BECAUSE IF DEALER WON'R CORRECT PROBLEM NOW THEY WON'R CORRECT IT LATER. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, DUAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO NECK, JAW, AND A BROKEN ARM. *AK *JB
IN EXTREMELY COLD WEATHER, -20 DEGREES OR COLDER, THE DOORS FAIL TO UNLOCK USING THE REMOTE OR THE KEY. THE DEALER STATED THAT GM DOES NOT CARE TO ADDRESS THE SITUATION. THE DEALER THEN TOOK THE FRONT PANELS OFF AND EITHER APPLIED GREASE OR REMOVED GREASE. THE FRONT DOORS NOW UNLOCK BUT THE BACK DOORS WON'T(CREW CAB).*AK
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, BUT FAILED TO INFLATE PROPERLY. DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. *AK
AMBIENT OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE OF APPROXIMATELY 25-DEGREES FAHRENHEIT AND LOWER CAUSES IN-CAB HEATER/AC CONTROL THAT DETERMINES WHERE AIR FLOW WILL BE DIRECTED (DEFROST/FLOOR/DASH VENTS/COMBO) TO STICK. OCCURS AROUND ONE TIME IN FIVE; AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. IF, AFTER COMMENCING DRIVING, THE WINDSHIELD BEGINS TO FOG OVER AND THE OUTLET SELECTOR IS STUCK IN ANY POSITION OTHER THAN DEFROST, IT CAN BECOME IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE OUT THE WINDSHIELD. THIS HAS CAUSED DANGEROUS CONDITIONS ALONG WITH REQUIRING ME TO PULL OVER UNTIL THE INTERIOR OF THE CABIN HEATS UP, ALLOWING THE SELECTOR SWITCH TO FUNCTION. TRUCK TAKEN TO DEALER MANY TIMES UNDER WARRANTY ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. AT TIMES THE TRUCK WAS LEFT FOR SEVERAL DAYS TO ALLOW REPLICATION. FOR WHATEVER REASON, DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM THUS REFUSING TO TRY TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. IT APPEARS THE DEALERS I USED (3 TOTAL) WERE UNWILLING TO DIAGNOSE THE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CONDITION. THE DEALERS RESPONSES WERE SUCH THAT I WAS BASICALLY TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO LIVE WITH A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CONDITION. I HAVE LEARNED TO LEAVE THE SWITCH SET IN THE DEFROST MODE WHEN PARKING THE TRUCK ALLOWING THE USE OF THE DEFROST MODE DURING INITIAL OPERATION DURING COLD WEATHER. OF COURSE, THAT MEANS THE A/C IS OPERATING, REDUCING GAS MILEAGE AND THE CABIN TAKES LONGER TO HEAT. IF I HAPPEN TO FORGET TO LEAVE THE SETTING AT DEFROST I FACE POSSIBLE CATASTROPHE IF THE WINDSHIELD FOGS SEVERELY WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. GENERALLY, WHEN THE SWITCHING SYSTEM IN INOPERATIVE IT TAKES 20 MINUTES OF SO FOR IT TO BEGIN WORKING AGAIN. SURE WAS TIRESOME HEARING DEALERS ESCAPE WARRANTY WORK BY USING THE "CAN NOT REPLICATE" MANTRA. THIS LAME EXCUSE WAS USED WITH OTHER PROBLEMS. WHEN GMC EXPECTS ME TO SPEND MY DOLLARS WITH THEM IN THE FUTURE I, TOO, SHALL USE THE "CAN NOT REPLICATE" MANTRA.*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD ISSUES WITH HIS BRAKING SYSTEM. WHEN HE BEGAN TO DRIVE AND ATTEMPTED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AT APPROXIMATELY 5-10 MPH, THE BRAKES WOULD RESIST. HE COULD HEAR THE ABS MOTOR RUNNING, BUT THE BRAKES WOULD NOT APPLY AT ALL. IN ADDITION, THE RPM WOULD ALSO REV AND THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE TO MOVE. UNLESS THE CONTACT REMOVED HIS FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL AND DEPRESSED THE PEDAL AGAIN SLOWLY, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ACTIVATE. ON ONE OCCASION, THE VEHICLE DROVE INTO A SNOW BANK BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP. HE WAS ALSO INVOLVED IN THREE OTHER CRASHES BECAUSE OF THE BRAKES. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER OVER TEN TIMES AND THEY ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE FAILURE APPROXIMATELY 3-4 TIMES. THE DEALER CHANGED THE FRONT ABS HUB, BUT THE REMEDY WOULD ONLY CORRECT THE ISSUE FOR APPROXIMATELY 1-2 WEEKS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,360 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 9,000. UPDATED 7/17/09. *LJ UPDATED 07/20/09*JB
HARD SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR - SLIPPING INTO OVERDRIVE - EVENTUALLY FAILING TO UPSHIFT UNTILL RPM REACHED APRX 3500. *AK
I CURRENTLY OWN A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 SERIES TRUCK, PRIOR TO SIGNING THE PAPERS THERE WAS A SHIMMY/VIBRATION COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE TIRES WERE NOT PROPERLY SPUN BALANCED, STATING THAT THEY WERE I SIGNED THE PAPERS, THEN AFTER THAT THE VEHICLE HAD THE DRIVE SHAFT REPLACED, TWO SETS OF TIRES, ALIGNMENT OUT, CALIPERS HANGING UP-REPLACED, REAR DISC PARKING BRAKE BOTH REPLACED, THEN AFTER THE SHIMMY VIBRATION CONTINUED, GM TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT ALL THE 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 SERIES HAVE THIS VIBRATION AND IT IS CLASSIFIED AS "BEAM SHAKE". THEIR SOLUTION WAS TO PUT 200 POUNDS OF WEIGHT OVER THE AXLE IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK STATING "IT WILL RIDE LIKE A CADILLAC". THE WEIGHT DID NOT CHANGE THE VIBRATION AND NOW THEY HAVE A GM FIELD ENGINEER COMING TO LOOK AT THE TRUCK. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED 12 DEC. 2003 AND STILL HAS THIS VIBRATION TO DATE, ALL THE TIME ABOVE 50 M.P.H. GM CUSTOMER SERVICE CLAIM NUMBER [XXX] . VIN # [XXX]. STATE FARM INSURANCE CO. WAS CONTACTED. I BELIEVE THAT THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AT HIGH SPEEDS. WANTED TO FILE CLAIM HOPEFULLY TO AVOID MORE SEVERE PROBLEMS. HAVE CONTACTED LEGAL ADVISE REFERENCING LEMON LAW. 3 MONTH OLD 2004 SILVARADO 4X4 HAD, STARTED DISPLAYING SEVERAL ERROR REPORTS, IE SERVICE BRAKES, SERVICE 4WD UNIT, STEREO CONSOLE LIGHTS WOULD GET EXTREMELY BRIGHT THEN DIM. TOOK TRUCK TO LOCAL DEALER, POWER CHEVROLET OF TILLAMOOK OR. SERVICE MNGR "BOB HEAGAL" STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A FAULTY IGNITION SWICH, THEY REPLACED SWITCH AND TRUCK CONTINUED TO HAVE SAME PROBLEMS, A ERROR CODE CHECK SHOWED HARD CODED ERRORS IN EVERY MODULE OF TRUCK, MECHANICS ALSO HAD PROBLEMS READING CODES AS EQUIPMENT WAS NOT COMMUNICATING WITH TRUCK. 2ND ROUND OF DIAGNOSIS, SERVICE MNGR SAID PROBLEM WAS WITH ECBM (ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE), THEY STATE THEY REPLACED THE LOWER ECBM UNIT AND WERE STILL RECEIVEING ERROR CODES, MNGR SAID THAT THEY ARE CURRENTLY WAITING FOR THE UPPER UNIT TO ARRIVE, THIS WAS OVER TWO WEEKS AGO.*AK
FRONT DEFROSTER WAS INOPERATIVE. AS A RESULT, THE HEAT WAS BLOCKED OFF, CAUSING IMPAIRED VISION. *AK 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH FRONT DEFROSTER WHICH IS CAUSING IMPAIRED VISION. DEALER EXPLAINED TO CONSUMER THAT THE DESIGN OF THE DEFROST SYSTEM WAS TO PREVENT THE WINSHIELD FROM CRACKING AT THE BOTTOM.*MR
DT: COMPUTER THAT PROGRAMS THE SEATS,WINDOWS, AND MIRRORS FAILED. IF THE CONSUMER TRIES TO OPEN THE WINDOW THE SEAT WILL MOVE, THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. SOMETIMES WHILE BACKING UP THE MIRRORS WILL AUTOMATICALLY GO DOWN TOWARD THE GROUND AT 90 DEGREES. ALSO, WHEN TURNING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION THE RADIO WILL COME ON, EVEN IF THE RADIO IS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TOT HE DEALER 9 TIMES AND IT WAS REPROGRAMMED 5 OR 6 TIMES BY THE DEALERSHIP. THE CONSUMER ALSO REPROGRAMMED IT A DOZEN TIMES. *AK UPDATED 01/04/06. *JB
PURCHASED A NEW 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z71. THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE SELECT PANEL FAILED. RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO SANDY SANSING CHEVROLET PENSACOLA, FLORIDA DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED CHEVROLET COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM FOR TWO TO FIVE MONTHS BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS A COMPUTER SOFTWARE DEFECT. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH THE 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. THE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT AT CHEVROLET KNEW THERE COMPUTER SOFTWARE HAD A DEFECT WHEN MAKING THIS VEHICLE WAS MADE AVAILABLE FOR THE CONSUMER. CHEVROLET SHOULD REPLACE THESE DEFECTIVE VEHICLES.*AK

WINDSHIELD MADE CRACKLING NOISE AT MEDIUM TO FAST SPEED (40 MPH AND UP). TOOK TO DEALER WHO AGREED THAT WINDSHIELD NEEDED TO BE RESEALED, WHICH THEY DID. NO FURTHER PROBLEM. *AK

FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY FAILED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO VERE LEFT INTO A TELEPHONE POLE IN MY DRIVEWAY. I WAS TRAVELING ACCORDING TO THE COMPUTER 20 MPH.*AK
DT: 2004 CHEVY SILEVRALDO THAT HAS 10,700 MILES THAT IS EXPERIENCING BRAKE PROBLEMS. THE TRUCK IS CURRENTLY AT DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE FIRST INSTANCE OCCURRED AT ABOUT 1,000 MILES. THE ISSUE IS AT LOW SPEEDS SUCH AS BEING AT AN INTERSECTION OR RED LIGHT AND WHEN BRAKE PRESSURE IS APPLIED -IT GOES ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR. THERE IS AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE AT LOW SPEEDS. NO SOUNDS OR NOISES WHEN THIS OCCURS. THIS HAPPENS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SUCH AS WET OR DRY CONDITIONS. OCCASIONALY WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT AND APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE THERE IS A GRINDING NOISE BUT SUSPECTS THIS MAY BE DUE TO THE TIRE. CURRENTLY TRUCK IS IN SHOP FOR THE SECOND TIME AWAITING INSPECTION OF THE BRAKES. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS NOTED AS NORMAL BY DEALER EVEN THOUGH CONSUMER THOUGHT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE THE FIRST TIME. NM *TT

AS I PULLED OUT OF A PARKING LOT I HIT THE GAS A LITTLE HARDER THAN USUAL AS TO NOT GET HIT AND MY SPEEDOMETER WENT TO 180 MPH AND MADE THE SOUND OF GEARS SPINNING BUT NOT CATCHING. IT OCCURS EVERYDAY SINCE IT IS A PIECE OF CRAP AND MY OIL AND FUEL GAUGES ARE GONE AS WELL. NO REPAIR, THE RECALL IS FOR UP TO 70,000 MILES AND SINCE GM DIDN'T NOTIFY ME I WENT OVER BEFORE I FOUND OUT. IF IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO SPEED THEN I DON'T SEE WHY IT IS LEGAL FOR AN AUTO MANUFACTURER TO SELL A PRODUCT THAT IN EFFECT CONDONES AND FORCES ME TO BREAK THE LAW. *TR
STEERING COLUMN: PULLED OUT OF DRIVEWAY, DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AND STEERING COLUMN CAME LOOSE ON THE RIGHT SIDE. VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO THE MAXIMUM. PUT FOOT ON BRAKE, BUT IT WOULD NOT STOP, HAD TO TURN THE KEY OFF TO STOP VEHICLE. *AK *SLC
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO BRAKING SYSTEM IS DEFECTIVE.*MR THE CONSUMER INDICATED THAT HE BRAKE PEDAL FELT SOFT. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION THE PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR OR VERY CLOSE TO IT. AS A RESULT THE CONSUMER'S RIGHT FOOT SOMETIMES ALSO PRESSES THE ACCELERATOR WHILE ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER'S TECHNICIAN THAT THERE IS NO FIX FRO THIS PROBLEM. *NM
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD HAS ANTILOCK BRAKE PROBLEMS. *BF THE ANTILOCK WHEEL SENSOR BECAME DIRTY WHICH CAUSED THE ANTILOCK TO ENGAGE RIGHT AT THE END OF BRAKING CAUSING IT TO TAKE LONGER TO STOP THE TRUCK. THE MANUAL NEVER INDICATED THAT THE SENSORS NEEDED TO BE CHECKED OR CLEANED. THERE WAS NO WARNING FOR THIS FAILURE. *NM
WHILE BACKING UP THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK BACK AND SURGE. TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP CHANGING RMP UNLESS IT WAS TAKEN OUT OF REVERSE, PUT INTO NEUTRAL THEN PUT BACK IN REVERSE. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. *BF THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. PROBLEMS WITH BRAKE EQUIPMENT ON 2004 CHEVROLET 1500.*MR THE CONSUMER INDICATED THAT THE BRAKES FELT SPONGY AS IF THERE WAS AIR IN THE BRAKE LINES. THE VEHICLE HAD NO SOPPING POWER AND THE CONSUMER HAD TO STAND ON THE BRAKES TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP.
