TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG DEPLOYED INDEPENDENTLY ONTO THE CONTACT'S CHEST. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT THE VEHICLE BEING INVOLVED IN A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER SENT AN ENGINEER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000.
EVERYTHING APPEARED NORMAL WHEN I WAS DRIVING TO THE BANK. AS I WAS SLOWING TO MAKE THE TURN INTO THE BANK THE BRAKES FELT A LITTLE SPONGY. AS I PULLED UP TO THE ATM BRAKES CONTINUE TO BE SPONGY. FINISHED AT BANK AND CAUTIOUSLY STARTED DRIVING HOME. FIRST STOP LIGHT, I HAD TO GEAR DOWN TO SLOW TO ALLOW ME TO STOP AS THE BRAKE HIT THE FLOOR. PUMPING HELPED ME STOP IN TIME TO NOT HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I SHOULD HAVE PROBABLY CALLED FOR A TOW AT THAT POINT, BUT ONLY HAD BACK ROADS LEFT TO GET HOME. DROVE VERY SLOW (LESS THAN 5MPH) BY TIME HOME HAD NO BRAKES LEFT. GOING SLOW ENOUGH TO HIT CURB OPPOSITE OF MY DRIVEWAY TO STOP AND THEN BACKED INTO UPHILL DRIVEWAY SO GRAVITY STOPPED ME TO PUT IN PARK. BTW - NO EMERGENCY BRAKE TO HELP, THAT IS NOT WORKING. GOT OUT AND A STEADY STREAM OF BRAKE FLUID WAS COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE DRIVE SIDE DOOR. LOOKED UNDER VEHICLE AND SAW FLUID LEAKING FROM CORRODED (RUSTED) BRAKE LINE BETWEEN MASTER CYLINDER & ABS BOX. TOOK A LOOK AT ALL THE OTHER LINE AND SURPRISED TO SEE HOW CORRODED ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ARE. I WAS ALSO KIND OF SURPRISED TO SEE HOW HORRIBLE THE ENTIRE UNDERSIDE, INCLUDING FRAME, HAVE RUSTED FOR A 10 YEAR OLD TRUCK. DEFINITELY VERY UPSET THE BRAKE LINES ARE THAT CORRODED AND WILL ALL NEED TO BE REPLACED TO PROVIDE CONFIDENCE ANOTHER ONE IS NOT GOING TO BURST. I'M JUST VERY HAPPY I DIDN'T GET IN AN ACCIDENT AND I SURE HOPE IT DOESN'T TAKE SOMEONE DYING FOR GM TO ISSUE A RECALL. GIVEN THE SIZE OF THESE VEHICLES AND THE SHEAR DAMAGE THEY COULD DO TO PROPERTY OR HUMAN LIFE SHOULD BE A CONCERN TO GM. I'M A HUGE FAN OF GM/CHEVY TRUCKS, BUT PENDING WHAT HAPPENS MAY DICTATE MY NEXT TRUCK. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN SITTING AS I HAVE NOT HAD TIME TO TRY TO REPAIR MYSELF OR MONEY AVAILABLE TO BE ABLE TO TAKE THE CHANCE AT HOW MUCH A SHOP IS GOING TO CHARGE. *TR
STEEL BRAKE LINE FAILURE/RUPTURE UNDER LITTLE TO NO BRAKING. IN A PARKING LOT, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THE BRAKE LINE CLUSTER ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE COMING FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT, HEAVILY RUSTED ALONG THE FRAME RAIL. THIS IS WHERE THE RUPTURE OCCURRED. THANKFULLY I JUST DROPPED OFF MY THREE KIDS AND THIS HAPPENED BEFORE LOADING THE BED WITH A CORD OF OAK FIREWOOD. I'VE WORKED ON VEHICLES FOR 20+ YEARS AND HAVE NEVER SEEN BRAKE LINES RUST LIKE THIS. NORMAL ROAD SALT HAS NEVER IMPACTED ANY OTHER VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED AND MAINTAINED OVER THE YEARS. I GUESS IT WAS CHEAPER FOR GM TO USE ALUMINIZED STEEL RATHER THAN STAINLESS AT THE FACTORY. IF MY TRUCK WAS LOADED WITH FIREWOOD, AND MY THREE KIDS, THE END RESULT WOULD HAVE UNDOUBTEDLY BEEN CATASTROPHIC. *TR
STEP ON BRAKE PEDAL, LINE RUPTURES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD PRIOR TO THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT ANOTHER VEHICLE COLLIDED INTO THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE LEFT SHOULDER THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 108,000. WAS COMING UP TO A RED LIGHT AND WHEN I PUSH ON THE BRAKE PEDAL , IT FAILED. LOST OF BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE. GOT OUT AND LOOKED AND THERE WAS A HUGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE ROAD BELOW THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. *TR
THE DASH INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILED AND DOES NOT READ A CORRECT TEMPERATURE NOR DOES THE OIL GAUGE READ CORRECTLY. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE READ THAT THE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOVE THE HIGHEST READING ON THE GAUGE. THERE IS A CLICKING SOUND WITHIN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR EVALUATION AT A SERVICE STATION, THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND DETERMINED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS FAILING AND ITS READINGS ARE NOT CORRECT. IT WILL REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. *TR
BRAKE LINES JUST WENT, LUCKILY THEY DID WHEN I FIRST STARTED TRUCK UP, THEY WERE RUSTED OUT. AS I HAVE COME TO LEARN, THERE HAS BEEN MANY CASES OF THIS PROBLEM, I KNOW OF MANY CARS AND TRUCKS THAT ARE 20 YEARS OLD THAT HAVEN'T HAD RUSTED BRAKE LINES. I FEEL THERE SHOULD BE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THIS, BEFORE IT CREATES A MAJOR PROBLEM. IT ALSO COST 1000 DOLLARS TO REPAIR LINES, WHICH I THINK IS WAY TO MUCH. *TR
APPROACHING STOP SIGN, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ANY BRAKING. INSPECTION IDENTIFIED CORROSION THROUGH BRAKE LINE TUBING WALLS CAUSING LOSS OF PRESSURE AND FLUID. MASSIVE SYSTEM FAILURE OCCURED WITHOUT WARNING. *TR
WAS DRIVING DOWN BUSY HIGHWAY WHEN I WENT TO SLOW DOWN TO STOP AT UPCOMING TRAFFIC STOP LIGHT. PUT FOOT ON BRAKES AND WENT TO FLOOR, NO BRAKES, NO WARNING. I WAS IN A HEAVILY CONGESTED TRAFFIC AREA AND IN THE MIDDLE OF A 4-WAY INTERSECTION THAT WAS GETTING READY TO GO DOWN A HILL, WAS ABLE TO TURN UP A STREET THAT WAS A HILL AND HAD TO HIT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO GET STOPPED. HAD TO HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED. THIS COULD OF BEEN A DEADLY CATASTROPHE CONSIDERING THE NATURE OF FAILED EQUIPMENT IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS VERY HEAVILY CONGESTED INTERSECTION. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE I HAVE PURCHASED IT ON 04/25/2014. HAVE HAD TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES FOR REPAIRS. IT SEEMS THE PROBLEMS NEVER STOP. *TR
BRAKING DOWNHILL AT INTERSECTION RED LIGHT. THE REAR BRAKE LINE BURST DUE TO RUSTING. LUCKILY I SLOWED ENOUGH NOT TO REAR END THE VEHICLES STOP AT THE RED LIGHT. HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. REPLACED ALL BRAKE LINES. CHECKED ONLINE AND SAW MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH GM PICKUP TRUCKS. GM NEVER ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM. *TR
MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR DUE TO A RUSTED BRAKE LINE. I WAS ABLE TO STOP BUT VERY SCARY. UPON INSPECTION I REALIZED EVERY METAL LINE IN THE TRUCK IS RUSTED AND EITHER ALREADY LEAKING OR WILL BE SOON. I'VE HAD 5 CHEVY TRUCKS AND NEVER ENCOUNTERED ANYTHING LIKE THIS WITH ANY OF THEM. IF I WANT TO KEEP MY TRUCK SAFELY ON THE ROAD THAT I STILL OWE $10,000 ON, I AM NOW FACED WITH THE EXPENSE OF REPLACING EVERY BRAKE LINE, THE TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES, THE ENGINE OIL COOLER LINES, THE POWER STEERING LINES, PUMP AND COOLER, AND THE FUEL LINES. THIS IS RIDICULOUS! CHEVROLET GETS GOOD MONEY FOR THESE TRUCKS AND THEY OBVIOUSLY MESSED UP ON THIS DESIGN. THE RUST PROBLEM WITH THE WORKING PARTS UNDER THE TRUCK IS UNBELIEVABLE. I SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET MORE THAN 100,000 MILES OUT OF A TRUCK THAT COST $40,000! I AM SHOCKED THAT CHEVROLET PUT A STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST ON THIS TRUCK THAT WILL LAST THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE, BUT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL LINES THAT CAN CAUSE A FIRE OR THE BRAKE LINES THAT COULD KILL MY FAMILY ARE MADE OF INFERIOR RUST PRONE MATERIALS! GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD BE ASHAMED AND TUCK THEIR HEADS BETWEEN THEIR LEGS AS THEY WATCH THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMERS BECOME LOYAL TO ANOTHER AUTOMAKER THAT MIGHT HAVE MORE RELIABLE VEHICLES OR AT LEAST STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS AND DESIGNS. DRIVER SIDE REAR BRAKE LINE RUSTED THROUGH AND RUPTURED DURING OPERATION CAUSEING LOSS OF BRAKES AND RUN STOP SIGN WAS ABLE TO STOP VEHICAL WITH E BRAKE. *TR
WAS PULLING A TRAILOR WITH TRACTOR AND BUSHHOG ON IT. 3 CARS WERE STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME. THE FIRST ONE TURNING LEFT. I WENT TO STOP. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT ME, PUSHING THAT ONE INTO THE ONE IN FRONT OF THAT ONE. UPON INSPECTION BRAKE LINE UNDER DRIVERS FLOOR HAD BURST OPEN DUE TO RUST. TRACTOR ALSO CAME FORWARD EVEN BEING STRAPPED DOWN BREAKING THE HEAD GATE ON TRAILOR. GM NEEDS TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND FIX THIS ISSUE WITH THESE TRUCKS. VERY LUCKY NO ONE WAS KILLED OR INJURED. *TR
OUT FOR A DRIVE IN THE PENNSYLVANIA MOUNTAINS WHEN EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY STOPPING. CHECKED BRAKE FLUID. IT WAS 3/4 EMPTY DUE TO LEAKAGE IN LINES. TOOK TRUCK TO THE REPAIR SHOP. BRAKE LINES NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO RUSTING OUT. THE COST WILL BE APPROXIMATELY $1,000.00. I REGULARLY MAINTAIN MY TRUCK. *TR
ONE DAY I WENT TO STOP ON A DRY ROAD AND WHEN I WAS ALMOST STOP THE BRAKE PEDAL DROPPED AND THE ABS ENGAGED. I HAD THE BRAKES INSPECTED AND ALL OF THE ROTORS WERE ALMOST GONE FROM RUST WITH CHUNKS OF THE ROTOR MISSING ON THE REAR. I HAD ALL OF THE ROTORS REPLACE WITH NEW PADS AND I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS ENGAGING ABOUT 5 MPH WHEN STOPPING INCREASING MY STOPPING DISTANCE. I HAVE NO ABS LIGHT OR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. *TR
THE DASHBOARD DIGITAL COMMAND CENTER (LANGUAGE, ODOMETER, TRIP METER, WARNING MESSAGES) DOES NOT DISPLAY ODOMETER, TRIP METER OR WARNING MESSAGES. THE LANGUAGE SWITCHES FROM ENGLISH, FRENCH & SPANISH WITHOUT ALLOWING FOR A SELECTED LANGUAGE. MILEAGE IS NOT ABLE TO BE DISPLAYED AT ALL. *TR
I HAD TO APPLY MY BRAKES BECAUSE OF A SUDDEN STOP. WHEN I DID MY ABS BRAKES WORKED FOR A SECOND WHEN NO MORE BRAKES. HAD TO SWERVE ,TO NOT HIT CAR IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN I STOPPED I WAS TWO FEET PAST THAT CARS RIGHT REAR FENDER. WHEN I LOOKED UNDER MY TRUCK THERE WAS BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM BRAKE LINE ABOVE FRAME AT DRIVERS DOOR. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN ALOT WORSE. I HEARD THIS IS NO THE ONLY TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT FAILED TO RESPOND. THE BRAKE FLUID WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
TRAVELING NORTH ON HWY 41 APPROACHING CONSTRUCTION ZONE NORTH OF NEW HIGH SCHOOL, SEMI TRUCK DECIDED TO CHANGE LANES TO AVOID CONGESTION AHEAD AND DID NOT CHECK FOR TRAFFIC IN THE LANE HE MOVED TO. I WAS APPROXIMATELY 4 CAR LENGTHS BEHIND HIM AND REQUIRED TO JAM ON BRAKES. PEDAL WENT NEARLY TO THE FLOOR AND VIRTUALLY NO BRAKING POWER WAS FELT. I PUMPED BREAKS BUT THE PEDAL CONSISTENTLY PUSHED TO ABOUT 1/2" FROM THE FLOOR. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO AVERT COLLISION BY SWITCHING LANES (SHOULDER) AND TURNED ON FLASHERS. I SLOWED TO ABOUT 25 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND PULLED OVER TO THE NEAREST SAFE SPOT. FIRST I CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID - WHICH WAS DOWN FROM THE WEEKEND SIGNIFICANTLY. THEN I LOOKED AT THE WHEELS AND THEY LOOKED OK. CRAWLING UNDER THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS FLUID DRIPPING FROM THE GAS TANK AREA, FROM THE CABLES FOR THE EMERGENCY BREAK, SPRAY OVER THE SPARE TIRE AND SPRAY ON THE INSIDE OF THE PASSENGER REAR TIRE. ALL LIQUID (WHICH APPEARED TO BE BRAKE FLUID) WAS ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN I ARRIVED HOME, I CRAWLED UNDER THE TRUCK & INSPECTED MORE CLOSELY. THERE WERE APPARENTLY 2 SPOTS WHERE THE BRAKE LINES HAD CORRODED (ONE WAS NOT VISIBLE - ABOVE THE GAS TANK - BUT OBVIOUSLY THE MAJOR LEAK WAS THERE). THE SECOND LEAK WAS FROM THE STEEL LINE THAT JOINED NEAR THE RUBBER BRAKE LINE ON THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. TRUCK IS NOT DRIVABLE AT 41000 MILES. *TR
ANOTHER 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 EXT. CAB BRAKE LINE RUPTURE. THE LINE BROKE UNDER THE CAB BY THE DRIVERS DOOR, AND THIS LEFT ME WITH ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKES. GENERAL MOTORS CLAIMS THERE WILL STILL BE LIMITED BRAKING FORCE, NOT SO! I WAS STOPPING AT A CROSSWALK PEDESTRIAN CROSSING AND I STARTED TO STOP, REDUCED SPEED TO ABOUT 10 MPH AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR, THERE WAS NO BRAKING FORCE LEFT AT ALL. I WENT THROUGH THE CROSS WALK AND STOPPED WITH THE PARKING BRAKE DOWN THE STREET. I HAD TO STEER INTO THE OTHER LANE TO AVOID THE PEDESTRIAN AND ANOTHER CAR. I LIVE IN ATLANTIC CANADA, SIMILAR CLIMATE TO NEW ENGLAND, I JUST THOUGH I WOULD ADD MY INCIDENT TO YOUR FILE AS THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESS BY GM, I AM ALSO INFORMING TRANSPORT CANADA, AND GM CANADA. WE ALL KNOW BRAKE LINES CORRODE, BUT THE BRAKING SYSTEM SHOULD HAVE A REDUNDANCY, THIS IS THE ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES THE MASTER CYLINDER DOES NOT WORK THIS WAY. WE HAVE ANNUAL SAFETY INSPECTIONS IN NEW BRUNSWICK, CANADA AND THIS WAS DONE AT THE GM DEALERSHIP IN MARCH, 2014, THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO IN THE GM DEALERSHIP IN SEPT., 2014 FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE BRAKE LINE BROKE A FEW WEEKS LATER. I REALIZE THIS IS AN AMERICAN ASSOCIATION, BUT A LOT OF CANADIAN CARS ARE ON YOUR ROADS, I AM ADDING THIS INCIDENT TO THE FAILURE LIST, THE TRUCK WAS BUILT IN TEXAS. I CRAWLED UNDER THE TRUCK AFTER THIS INCIDENT AND THE BRAKE LINES ARE ALL RUSTED OUT AND NEED REPLACEMENT BEFORE THIS TRUCK IS SAFE TO BE ON THE ROAD. I AM SURE THERE ALL LOTS OF THESE BRAKES LINES READY TO FAIL ON THESE TRUCKS. *TR
PULLED OFF INTERSTATE 95 TO SWITCH DRIVERS. WHEN THE VEHICLE STOPPED AND WAS PUT INTO PARK THE BRAKE LINES RUPTURED. ON INSPECTION LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED (ALL 3). CHEVROLET CORPORATE REFUSES ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR INFERIOR MATERIAL, DEALER IS CHARGING $3400 TO REPLACE LINES. EXACTLY 2 MINUTES EARLIER AND THE TRUCK WOULD HAVE BEEN ON 95 AND THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS AND PERHAPS FATAL. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH VERY LITTLE STOPPING ABILITY. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS TIME TO COME TO A GRADUAL STOP BECAUSE A QUICK STOP WAS NOT POSSIBLE. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A CHEVROLET DEALER. BRAKE LIES WERE "RUSTED THROUGH." COST TO REPAIR WAS $1199.29. *TR
THE AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED WORKING AND THERE WAS A SLIGHT BURNING SMELL. THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS TURNED OFF AND THE VEHICLE DRIVEN HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT. UPON INSPECTING THE SYSTEM, THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR WAS FOUND TO HAVE A BURNT APPEARANCE AND SLIGHT ODOR. *TR
WAS ENTERING DRIVE-THRU RESTAURANT, GAVE ORDER, PROCEEDED TO WINDOW TO RECEIVE ORDER/PAY. NOTICED THAT UPON STOPPING AT WINDOW, BRAKE PEDAL STARTED TO DEPRESS NORMALLY, AND THEN WENT ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS SMOKE STARTED COMING INTO DRIVER COMPARTMENT THRU AIR VENTS, SMOKE COULD BE SEEN COMING OUT OF ENGINE FROM UNDER HOOD. QUICKLY PROCEEDED TO MOVE VEHICLE TO EMPTY PARKING SPOT/AREA.TURNED VEHICLE OFF, EXTINGUISHED FIRE BURNING IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT. BRAKE LINE BURST SENDING BRAKE FLUID ONTO EXHAUST MANIFOLDS IGNITING ENGINE COMPARTMENT INSULATION. THIS IS AN ENGINEERING DEFECT WITH A HIGH POTENTIAL TO CAUSE FATALITIES/INJURY THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
AFTER DISCOVERING AN EXHAUST LEAK PERFORMED A VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE. I HAVE A 2004 SILVERADO WITH THE 6.0L. I AVE DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE AN ABUNDANCE OF THESE VEHICLES OUT THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS CAUSING EXHAUST FUMES TO ENTER THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND CAB OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
BRAKE LINE BURST, VERY LITTLE STOPPING POWER, HAD TO MAKE CRASH AVOIDANCE MANEUVER, SWERVING OFF ROAD. UPON INSPECTION NOTICED ALL BRAKE LINES RUSTED BADLY. WILL REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OFF ALL LINES. *TR
BRAKES HAD BEEN A LITTLE MUSHY, THEN AS THE DRIVER WAS COMING TO A STOP, HE NOTICED THAT HE LOST ALL HYDRAULIC PRESSURE. HE USED THE PARKING BRAKE IN ORDER TO DRIVE IT TO A SAFE PLACE. LOOKING UNDER THE VEHICLE THE NEXT DAY, THE BRAKE LINES ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID. *TR
PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID ON DRIVEWAY. BRAKE LINE JUST ABOVE GAS TANK FROM JUNCTION BLOCK TO REAR AXLE RUSTED OUT AT CLIP ATTACHMENT POINT WITH FRAME. TRUCK WAS ALWAYS GARAGE KEPT AND WHEN WASHED AT AUTOMATIC CAR WASH MOST TIMES WITH A UNDER BODY RINSE. *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT ON DRIVER SIDE AT REARMOST PART OF ENGINE HAS BROKEN OFF. *TR
3 EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS HAVE BROKEN OFF MY 6.0 LITER TRUCK MOTOR. I FEEL THIS IS A DEFECT AS I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM, THIS IS A VEHICLE USED FOR PERSONAL USE AND ONLY HAS LIKE 80,000 MILES ON IT. I THINK GM SHOULD HAVE TO COVER THIS DEFECT.
I WAS PULLING UP TO A STOP SIGN IN MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 AND EASING ON THE BRAKES WHEN I NOTICED THEY WERE SOFT, SO I PUSHED ON THEM HARDER AND STILL NOTHING. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITH BARELY ANY STOPPING POWER. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ONE AT THE STOP SIGN AND I WAS ABLE TO PUSH THE EMERGENCY BREAK TO GET ENOUGH STOPPING POWER TO COME TO A HALT SHORTLY INTO THE INTERSECTION. THE "SERVICE BRAKES" LIGHT CAME ON ONCE THE COMPUTER NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS AGAINST THE CARPET AND THE TRUCK WASN'T SLOWING DOWN, WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY TOO LATE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THE FAILURE SEEMS TO BE IN THE BRAKE LINES JUST BEHIND THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE PLASTIC SUPPORT BRACKET THAT SUPPORTS THE BRAKE LINES AS THEY RUN ALONG THE FRAME HAD FLUID DRIPPING OFF IT AND RUSTY BROKEN BRAKE LINES IN IT. *TR
PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY ONTO THE MAIN ROAD HIT THE BRAKES TO STOP FOR A VEHICLE COMING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR HAD ALL I COULD DO TO KEEP FROM HITTING THE VEHICLE AFTER GETTING THE VEHICLE STOPPED INSPECTED THE VEHICLE TO FIND A RUPTURED BRAKE LINE ON THE FRAME BELOW DRIVERS DOOR. *TR
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. FOUND RUPTURED BRAKE LINE ALONG FRAME BELOW DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR. INSPECTED ALL OTHER LINES AND FOUND ALL TO BE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT DO TO RUST. *TR
RETURNING HOME, I PROCEEDED TO BACK INTO MY DRIVEWAY, I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO REVERSE INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. VERY MINIMAL IF ANY BRAKE FORCE WAS LEFT TO STOP MY TRUCK. I GOT IT BACK INTO THE DRIVEWAY, GOT OUT AND BRAKE FLUID WAS DRIPPING ON THE GROUND UNDER THE FRONT PART OF THE TRUCK. I DETERMINED THE FLUID WAS COMING FROM A BRAKE LINE. I CALLED FOR A FLAT BED WRECKER, TOOK IT TO TUFFY AUTO CENTERS AT 11524 N SAGINAW ST CLIO MI. THEY TOLD ME THAT THESE BRAKE LINES ARE KNOWN TO CORRODE OUT, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I PAID TO HAVE ALL BRAKE COMPONENTS INSPECTED AND ALL LINES REPLACED. THE COST FOR PARTS AND LABOR TO ME WAS $531.58. MY AAA MEMBERSHIP PAID FOR THE WRECKER. I DID NOT KNOW THIS WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM KNOWN TO GM, AND THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED. I FEEL THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY BAD ACCIDENT. I HAD JUST COME HOME FROM BEING ON THE EXPRESSWAY. *TR
WHILE PULLING A 30 BOAT THIS WEEKEND MY BRAKES FAILED. PEDAL DROPPED TO THE FLOOR . PULLED MY 2004 2500HD TRUCK INTO THE SHOP AFTER USING THE E-BRAKE AND WHAT REMAINED OF MY BRAKES TO GET 4 MILES HOME. ADDED BRAKE FLUID AND WHEN I PRESSED THE PEDDLE A SHOWER OF FLUID SPRAYED ALL OVER THE GROUND. MY UNDERCARRIAGE IS CLEAN. REMOVED THE FUEL TANK TO FIND THE BRAKE LINE COMPLETE DETERIORATED. I LIVE IN TN AND SALT IS NOT A MAJOR USES HERE. *TR
APPROACHING A RED LIGHT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. LUCK HAD IT THAT I PROCEEDED THROUGH THE RED LIGHT AND THE INTERSECTION WITHOUT BEING INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. UPON INSPECTION, BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING BEHIND THE FRONT WHEEL DRIVER SIDE. THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK IS IN GOOD CONDITION WITH THE EXCEPTION FOR THE BRAKE LINES. ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE EXTREMELY CORRODED. IT IS OBVIOUS IN THE APPEARANCE, THAT THE MATERIAL USED TO MAKE THE BRAKE LINES WERE NOT CONSISTENT WITH THE CORROSION RESISTANCE OF THE OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE LINE FAILED TO THE FRONT BRAKES. THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH REMAINING BRAKING BY THE REAR BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE. *TR
WENT TO DRIVE TRUCK AND WHEN I TURNED THE KEY TO THE ON POSITION THE CHECK BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND ALARM BELL SOUNDED. AFTER CHECKING UNDER VEHICLE I NOTICED BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE LEFT REAR (DRIVER'S SIDE) TIRE. I CHECKED FOR THE SOURCE AND NOTICED THAT THE SOLID BRAKE LINE HAD CORRODED IN THAT LOCATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 3 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT FAILED TO RESPOND. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO SEVERAL BUSHES. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. WIFE WAS MOVING TRUCK TO GARAGE WHEN BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR; ON FURTHER OBSERVATION BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED TO THE POINT WHERE RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY OF FLUID. WE HAD JUST BEEN HAULING TRAILER LOADS OF HAY GLAD THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN ON OPEN ROAD WITH OTHER VEHICLES INVOLVED. BOUGHT TRUCK NEW NO ABUSE IN ITS HISTORY. BOUGHT 91 CHEVY PICKUP TRUCK NEW AND STILL HAVE THAT ONE. WE HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE LINES ON THE OLDER TRUCK. PULLING MY BOAT ON SECONDARY ROAD TOWARD HIGHWAY, PUSHED BRAKES TO STOP FOR STOP SIGN, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO WARNING OR TROUBLE LIGHT. HAD ENOUGH BRAKING FORCE TO STOP AFTER ROLLING APPROX 100 FT. CAUTIOUSLY DROVE TO GAS STATION/PARKED VEHICLE AND CALLED A WRECKER TO TAKE TRUCK 65 MILES TO MY HOME. ON INSPECTION I DISCOVERED CORRODED BRAKE LINE(STEEL) HAD RUPTURED ALONG ROUTING TO BACK BRAKE. LOTS OF CORROSION VISIBLE ON MULTIPLE STEEL LINES. I WAS INCREDIBLY LUCKY TO NOT BE TRAVELING FASTER AND IN AN EMERGENCY BRAKING SITUATION. *TR
ALL THE TRUCK BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED AND A LEAK SPRUNG UP ON THE SECTION UNDER THE RADIATOR FEEDING THE PASSENGER FRONT WHEEL. HAVE LOOKED THE ENTIRE US FOR PARTS AND GM HAS A IMPROVED NYLON COATED PART NUMBER 22932587 THEY HAVE APPARENTLY DISCONTINUED. NUMEROUS SITES POINT TO AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION OF SUCH VEHICLES WITH A DOCUMENTED FAILURE RATE OF 1:1000. THE QUESTION...IF THE FAILURE RATE IS THIS HIGH, AND IT HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE 2010 - WHY IS GM NOT BEING PRESSURED TO MAKE THIS RIGHT WITH CUSTOMERS? THIS REPAIR MAY COST ME APPROX $1800.00 AND THAT IS A LOT CONSIDERING THE DEFECT IS SO WIDELY KNOWN. *TR
I HAD JUST RETURNED HOME WITH A FULL LOAD (2 YARDS) OF MULCH AND PARKED THE TRUCK TO UNLOAD. THE TRUCK WAS PERFECTLY FINE. WHEN I FINISHED UNLOADING I WENT TO MOVE THE TRUCK AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER INDICATED "LOW COOLANT LEVEL". WHEN I CHECKED OUT WHAT WAS WRONG, I FOUND TWO BRAKE LINES SEVERELY RUSTED WITH ONE LEAKING LOCATED UNDER DRIVER'S SEAT AREA WHERE THE LINES CROSS OVER TOP OF THE FRAME. THAT IS THE ONLY AREA THAT RUSTED THAT I SAW SO FAR. THERE IS NO OTHER RUST UNDERNEATH ON THE REST OF THE LINES. MY TRUCK DOES NOT GET HEAVY USE, IS FREQUENTLY HOUSED IN A GARAGE AND RARELY DRIVEN IN SNOW/ICE CONDITIONS (I'M RETIRED). IN ADDITION THE TRUCK IS WELL MAINTAINED AND KEPT CLEAN. IN ADDITION, THE LOW COOLANT LEVEL I BELIEVE IS A COMPUTER GLITCH AS THE LEVEL IS FINE AND UNCHANGED BEFORE AND AFTER THE INCIDENT. IN MY OPINION THE TRUCK'S COMPUTER IS SENDING THE WRONG MESSAGE FOR A DEFECT IN THE PRIMARY BRAKING SYSTEM. *TR
AS I WAS BACKING UP THE TRUCK TO HOOK UP OUR HORSE TRAILER I EXPERIENCE A SUDDEN LOSS OF HYDRAULIC PRESSURE IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM AND THE BREAK PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK BEFORE IT HIT THE TRAILER OR MY DAUGHTER WHO WAS DIRECTING ME. I NOTICED A PUDDLE OF FLUID ON THE GROUND UNDER THE TRUCK JUST BELOW THE DRIVER SEAT AND TRACED IT TO A CRACK IN A CORRODED BRAKE LINE. WE WERE VERY LUCKY THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN IT DID. HAD THE BRAKE FAILURE HAPPENED 10 MINUTES LATER, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAVELING ON I95 IN VERY CROWDED CONDITIONS WITH A HORSE IN TOW. THERE HAD BEEN NO INDICATION THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS AT RISK OF FAILURE. WE HAD USED THE TRUCK THE PREVIOUS WEEKEND TO TRAILER OUR HORSE TO A SHOW AND THE BRAKES WORKED FINE. *TR
TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 95 NB WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO EXIT, BRAKE PETAL WENT TO FLOOR, HAD TO PUMP SEVERAL TIMES TO GET STOPPED. INSPECTION UNDER THE HOOD REVEALED BRAKE HYDRAULIC FLUID COVERING THE WHOLE DRIVER SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT INCLUDING THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. FLUID WAS COMING FROM A RUSTED METAL BRAKELINE. FURTHER INSPECTION OF OTHER LINES IDENTIFIED SIMILAR RUSTING. VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE TO A REPAIR FACILITY. THE EMERGENCY BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE ARE NOT SUFFICIENT TO STOP IN A SAFE DISTANCE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT. *TR

FATAL CRASH. ENTIRE LEFT SIDE OF VEHICLE RIPPED OFF INCLUDING DRIVER DOOR. TRUCK FLIPPED ALSO. HIT 4 TREES. SPEED LIMIT WAS 65 IN THE AREA THEY BELIEVE THE VEHICLE TO BE MOVING A LITTLE OVER THE SPEED LIMIT. AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED NONE OF THEM. THE IMPACT TOTALED THE VEHICLE. *TR
I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT IN MY 2004 SILVERADO 1500. I LOST CONTROL AND HIT A TREE ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DECLARED THE TRUCK A TOTAL LOSS. I KEPT THE TRUCK AND REPAIRED ALL DAMAGE. THE SERVICE SIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON. IT WAS NOT ON BEFORE THE WRECK. IT WAS ABOUT THE THIRD TIME CRANKING THE TRUCK BEFORE THE LIGHT CAME ON IN THE DASH. I THOUGHT EVERYTHING WAS FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY. WE HAD AN AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT WITH AN AUTO SCANNER. IT SHOWED THE BOX THAT TELLS THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT SENT SIGNAL FOR AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY BUT THEY DID NOT. *TR
COMING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY 1200 FEET LONG, I HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL WHICH WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR, WITHOUT EVEN SLOWING THE TRUCK FROM 15 MPH (IT IS VERY SLIGHTLY DOWNHILL NEAR THE VERY END). I CROSSED THE ROAD AND WAS HIT BY AN ONCOMING VEHICLE APPROACHING MY DRIVEWAY. FORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE WAS A FRIEND SLOWING TO ENTER MY DRIVEWAY AND THE COLLISION WAS MINOR. DESTROYED MY REAR BUMPER AND DAMAGED THE LEFT REAR QUARTER PANEL. HAD THE ONCOMING VEHICLE BEEN TRAVELING AT A NORMAL RATE OF SPEED FOR THIS ROAD, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. LIKELY WITH INJURIES. IT IS A RURAL ROAD WITH A 35 MPH SPEED LIMIT AND PEOPLE GENERALLY DRIVE IT AT 40-45 MPH. *TR
