STEPPED ON BRAKE AND PUT VEHICLE IN DRIVE. DROVE TO END OF DRIVEWAY AND STOPPED. THE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AFTER STOPPING. UPON INVESTIGATION I NOTICED THE BRAKELINE RUNNING FROM FRONT TO BACK OF VEHICLE BROKE. SAME TIME I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM WAS RUSTED AND FALLING APART. *TR
I WAS LAUNCHING MY BOAT THIS MORNING AND NEARLY LAUNCHED MY TRUCK WITH IT. PUTTING THE BOAT IN THE WATER MY BRAKES ALL OF A SUDDEN STOPPED WORKING. LUCKILY I THOUGHT TO PUT IT IN DRIVE ESPECIALLY SINCE I CAN'T SWIM. AFTER DRIVING TO THE TOP OF THE HILL I HAD TO CRASH IN TO A BANK TO STOP! THEN I NOTICED SOMETHING LEAKING ABOVE THE LEFT REAR TIRE. IT APPEARED TO BE A BRAKE LINE THAT HAD RUSTED THROUGH.?.?.I HAD MY WIFE PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO FIND WHERE IT WAS LEAKING AND IT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT. RUSTED BRAKE LINE! OF ALL THINGS DESIGNED TO SURVIVE RUST, THE BRAKE LINES WERE OBVIOUSLY LEFT OUT. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME THAT I FELT MY LIFE WAS IN DANGER. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I LEARNED THIS IS VERY COMMON. I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT. DOESN'T SEEM LIKE THE GM I KNOW TO PUT LIVES IN DANGER. *TR
I HAVE HAD A SLOW COOLANT LOSS RECENTLY WITHOUT AND LEAK VISIBLE. FOUND OUT ITS MY HEADS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CRACKS. READ A LOT OF ARTICLES OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. SEEMS TO ME GM SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR INSTALLING HORRIBLE HEADS. *TR
APPROACHING TRAFFIC LIGHT, WENT TO APPLY BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. PULLED OFF ROAD AND SAW BRAKE FLUID FROM VEHICLE LEAKING . HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO SHOP, THIS IS SECOND TIME 1ST TIME FRONT BRAKE LINE RUSTED THROUGH, THIS TIME THE REAR LINES RUSTED THROUGH. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
AFTER RUNNING ERRANDS I WAS RETURNING HOME AND WHEN I CAME DOWN MY STREET THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK.THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY I WAS TRAVELING SLOW AND WAS ABLE TO STOP WITH MY E-BRAKE. I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND FOUND BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR. THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED . I GOT THE TRUCK TO A BRAKE SHOP WHERE THEY FOUND ALL OF MY BRAKE LINES WERE BADLY RUSTED AND IT COST APPROX. $1000.00 TO REPAIR.I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY CHEVROLET WOULD MAKE STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST BUT NOT STAINLESS STEEL BRAKE LINES. THIS TRUCK HAS ONLY 27000 MILES ON IT. *TR
BRAKE LINE RUSTED THROUGH AND ALL STOPPING POWER WAS LOST CAUSING VEHICLE TO RUN A RED LIGHT. AFTER HAVING REPAIRS DONE, IT HAS NOW HAPPENED AGAIN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 45 MPH, WHEN A DEER STEPPED OUT ONLY 40 YARDS AHEAD OF ME, I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND HEARD A LOUD POP AND MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND HAD ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKES. LUCKILY THE DEER STARTED TO SPRINT BECAUSE I MISSED THE DEER BY ONLY A COUPLE FEET. AFTER LOOKING UNDER THE HOOD I FOUND OUT THE MASTER CYLINDER BLEW A O-RING. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND IT LOOKS LIKE CHEVY KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BOLTS ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WERE FRACTURING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE MANIFOLD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,500. UPDATED 12/19/14*CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FAILURE. THERE WAS A CHANCE OF FIRE OR COMPLETE FAILURE CAUSING INJURIES IF THE MANIFOLD BREAKS AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 05/26/2015 *JS
JUST FINISHED A 300 MILE TRIP TOWING A 24 FOOT RACE TRAILER. NEXT MORNING LEFT TO PUT THE TRAILER IN STORAGE AND THE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR ON THE WAY OUT OF THE SUBDIVISION. LUCKILY THE SPEED WAS SLOW AND THE TRAILER HAD BRAKES SO I COULD GET STOPPED BY USING THE OMG SWITCH ON THE BRAKE CONTROLLER. THERE WAS CROSS TRAFFIC THAT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A BAD ACCIDENT HAD I ENTERED THE INTERSECTION. JUDGING BY THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS OF RUSTED BRAKE LINES ON THIS VEHICLE IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE SHOWS THAT ALL THE LINES NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS TRUCK IS MAINTAINED IN LIKE NEW CONDITION AND BRAKE LINES SHOULD GO MANY MORE YEARS THAN THIS. *TR
I WAS STOPPING TO TURN ONTO THE ROAD THAT MY WORK IS ON. THERE WAS A CAR IN FRONT OF ME TURNING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. I APPLIED MY BRAKES TO STOP AND THE PEDAL SLOWLY WENT TO THE FLOOR. I APPLIED THEM AGAIN AND THE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN ENOUGH TO NOT HIT THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME. I PARKED AT THE 911 CENTER WHERE I WORK AND LOOKED UNDER MY TRUCK. THE BRAKE LINE UNDER MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR WAS LEAKING EXTREMELY BAD. THERE WAS ALREADY A LARGE POOL OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND BY THE TIME I GOT OUT TO LOOK. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO COME TO A STOP TO TURN INTO A PARKING LOT WHEN MY LINES BLEW. I WENT TO REPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO FIND NO PRESSURE. I WENT TO RELY ON MY EMERGENCY BRAKE WHEN THAT ALSO FAILED AFTER 3 PRESSES. NOW I AM BEING QUOTED $1,500.00 FOR A REPAIR THAT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO MAKE DO TO FAULTY MATERIAL. *TR
MY SON AND I WERE GOING HOME FROM A DAY OF HUNTING WHEN WE STARTED GOING DOWN A LARGE CURVY HILL (BACK ROAD) WHEN NO WARNING, BRAKES STARTING GOING OUT. THE PEDAL BECAME VERY SPONGY AND I PUSHED IT ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR TO SLOW DOWN AND DOWN SHIFTED TO FIRST GEAR TO GET TO BOTTOM OF HILL. IT WAS SCARY FOR BOTH OF US, IT REMINDED ME FROM A SCENE FROM A MOVIE UNFORTUNATELY THIS WAS NO MOVIE. THE TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN BABIED IN A GARAGE AND SERVICED REGULARLY. APPARENTLY I AM ONE OF MANY THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM OF RUSTY BRAKE LINES. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE QUALITY OF MATERIALS THAT GM HAS USED ON BRAKE LINES. IN HINDSIGHT I AM NOT SURPRISED FROM GM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM LOCAL GROCERY STORE, I NOTICED MY BRAKES GETTING SPONGEY.I MADE IT TROUGH 5 GREEN LIGHTS AND 4 MILES TO MY DRIVEWAY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BELLS AND WHISTLES SOUNDED.I PARKED MY TRUCK , CRAWLED UNDERNEATH AND DISCOVERED THE REAR BRAKE LINE RUSTED AND LEAKING FLUID. NOW IT SITS WAITING UNTIL I CAN GET IT TOWED, FURTHER INSPECTED, AND REPAIRED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE EXCESSIVELY CORRODED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 186,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING UPHILL AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT SLIGHTLY TAPPED THE IGNITION AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE BATTERY WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
I WAS PLANNING ON HEADING UP TO THE MOUNTAINS TO MY CABIN TODAY (8/10/2014). I STOPPED FOR DIESEL AT KING'S QUICK STOP, ABOUT 3 BLOCKS FROM MY HOUSE. AFTER I FILLED UP, I PUT IT IN DRIVE AND THE BRAKES FAILED COMPLETELY. BY THE GRACE OF GOD I WAS ONLY GOING 5 MPH IN THE GAS STATION PARKING LOT OR I COULD HAVE EASILY HIT CARS OR PEDESTRIANS CAUSING INJURY OR LOSS OF LIFE. I DROVE HOME USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHICH IS NOT IN A GREAT PLACE FOR EMERGENCY STOPPING. AFTER ARRIVING HOME I TOOK A LOOK AND DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINES IN ONE PARTICULAR SECTION WERE COMPLETELY CORRODED AND ONE OF THEM HAD BURST. THIS IS A VEHICLE THAT I FREQUENTLY DRIVE TO THE MOUNTAINS AND I CANNOT FATHOM HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN ON ANY TRUCK, LET ALONE A HEAVY DUTY TRUCK. NO WARNING LIGHT CAME OUT TO INFORM ME THAT MY BRAKE PRESSURE WAS LOW ALTHOUGH I FIGURED THAT OUT QUICKLY WHEN MY FOOT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. AFTER DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM, I DID SOME SEARCHING ON THE WEB AND DISCOVERED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE SALT BELT STATES. BUT I LIVE IN NORTH CAROLINA SO THIS IS QUITE A SURPRISE. I WILL BE SCHEDULING REPAIRS TOMORROW BUT MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT GM IS NOT ASSISTING IN ANY WAY AND THAT THE REPAIRS CAN RUN UP TO $2000. I'VE OWNED 20 CARS IN MY LIFETIME, MANY WITH EXCESSIVE MILEAGE AND HAVE NEVER HAD BRAKES FAIL BEFORE. SO THIS IS QUITE UNSETTLING AND CLEARLY GM HAS A FAULTY AND DANGEROUS DESIGN HERE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AND WENT TO STOP THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I PUT THE SHIFTER INTO LOW 1 AND HIT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO COME TO A STOP JUST SHORT OF HITTING THE HONDA CIVIC IN FRONT OF ME WITH THE BABY IN THE BACK SEAT. I PUT MY HAZARDS LIGHTS ON AND CHECKED THE TRUCK. UNDER THE BED WAS WET WITH BRAKE FLUID. THE BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTED THROUGH AND IS SNAPPED LETTING ALL OF THE FLUID OUT. SO, NO BRAKES! *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, I CAME TO A STOP SIGN AND APPLIED MY BRAKES. THE BRAKES FAILED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. THE TRUCK CAME TO A GRADUAL STOP, TAKING ABOUT 4 TO 5 TIMES THE NORMAL DISTANCE IT SHOULD HAVE REQUIRED. I ENDED UP PARTLY IN THE INTERSECTION BEFORE THE TRUCK STOPPED. FORTUNATELY, NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE AT THE INTERSECTION WHEN I ARRIVED. PRIOR TO THIS FAILURE, THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING SIGNS THAT THE BRAKES HAD FAILED. THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR DID NOT COME ON UNTIL AFTER THE BRAKES FAILED AND THERE WAS NO CHANGE IN THE FUNCTIONING OF THE BRAKES BEFORE THE FAILURE TO GIVE ANY INDICATION THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. I LIVE IN A MOUNTAINOUS REGION AND I AM VERY THANKFUL THAT THE BRAKES FAILED WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED, ON A RELATIVELY FLAT ROAD, AT AN INTERSECTION WITH NO CARS PRESENT. IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED ON THE MAIN ROADS WHICH ARE CURVY AND STEEP IN THIS AREA OR HAD TO STOP SUDDENLY, THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE, AND PROBABLY WOULD HAVE, BEEN VERY DIFFERENT AND TRAGIC. THE TRUCK WAS REPAIRED AT THE NEAREST CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. THE COST OF REPLACING THE BRAKE LINES CAME TO $1,760.27. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY RUSTED BRAKE LINES. IT IS NOTEWORTHY THAT THIS SAME DEALERSHIP REPLACED BY BRAKE DISKS LESS THAN 15 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT AND THEY DID NOT NOTICE THAT THE LINES WERE RUSTED AT THAT TIME. I HAVE OWNED 6 VEHICLES AND THERE HAVE BEEN DEFECTS IN MANY OF THESE VEHICLES, BUT NONE OF THE DEFECTS WERE AS SERIOUS OR HAD THE POTENTIAL DANGER THAN THIS ONE WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKE FAILURE. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL WENT SOFT AND WENT TO FLOOR. VEHICLE HAD SLOW STOPPING ABILITY, BRAKE LINE TO REAR ROTTED AND LEAKED. 2 WEEKS LATER SAME THING HAPPENED AND A FRONT LINE BROKE. NOW CHANGING ALL LINES. *TR
PULLING BOAT TRAILER UP OUT OF THE BOAT RAMP AND BRAKE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR AND LEAKED OUT ALL THE FLUID HAD IT TOWED TO GARAGE AND FOUND BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH ON ONE OF THE 4 OTHERS WERE IN BAD SHAPE LUCKY I WASN'T TOWING THE BOAT DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND HAD TO STOP I COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE OR MYSELF GM NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM NOW I HEAR THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS. *TR
BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT NEEDING REPLACEMENT. CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP CHARGED $772.70. SERVICE MANAGER SAYS MANY PROBLEMS. GM OFFERS KIT TO REPLACE LINES. SHOULD BE RECALLED. NEVER HAD A BRAKE LINE PROBLEM IN 50 YEARS AS I MAINTAIN MY VEHICLES. I COULD NO LONG WAIT FOR A RECALL. THE BRAKE LINES WERE TERRIBLE. MY 2004 SUBARU OUTBACK HAS TWICE THE MILEAGE AND LINES LOOK LIKE NEW. BRAKE LINES SHOULD LAST LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. PLEASE DO SOMETHING. HOW CAN YOU INVESTIGATE FOR 4 YEARS AND DO NOTHING? *TR
I WAS APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT WHEN IT TURNED YELLOW AND THEN RED IMMEDIATELY. I HIT THE BRAKES AND WENT RIGHT THROUGH THE LIGHT. THERE WERE NO BRAKES AT ALL AND MY FOOT HIT THE FLOOR. AS I COASTED AND TRIED TO DOWNSHIFT THE TRUCK CAME TO A CRAWL, I TURNED INTO A ROAD WHERE I COULD STOP THE VEHICLE.THERE WAS NO WARNING TO LET ME KNOW THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS GOING TO LET GO. I COULD SMELL SOMETHING WHICH MUST HAVE BEEN BRAKE FLUID THAT EMPTIED ALL OVER GROUND. THE IDIOT LITE SAID SERVICE BRAKES AND WAS BEEPING VERY LOUD. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AND THE NEW BRAKE LINES ARE GOING TO COST ABOUT SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS TO INSTALL COATED STEEL LINES WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN INSTALLED FROM THE FACTORY. ALL FOREIGN CARS COME WITH COATED OR COPPER BRAKE LINES. WHY CAN'T AMERICAN AUTO BUILDERS DO IT FOR OUR OWN COUNTRY? THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS THING THAT CAN HAPPEN AND COULD BE AVOIDED FOR A FEW MORE DOLLARS PER CAR. WHEN YOU SPEND CLOSE TO 40,000 DOLLARS FOR A VEHICLE DON'T YOU THINK WE DESERVE BETTER THAN THIS? *TR
I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE EXPRESSWAY ABOUT 70 MPH AND NEEDED TO BRAKE QUICKLY FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION. WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT WENT TO THE FLOOR BOARD AND THERE WAS NO PRESSURE. THE RED BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON IMMEDIATELY, BUT THERE WAS NO WARNING BEFORE APPLYING THE BRAKES. WITH DIFFICULTY, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP AND BARELY MISSED THE VEHICLE WAY OUT IN FRONT AND THE ROAD CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT AND CREW. I WAS SCARED TO DEATH. *TR
AS I AM OVER 50 I HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLE'S AND NEVER HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE LINES. JUST HAD THEM REPLACED TODAY JULY 29,2014. YES I LIVE I A STATE WHERE SALT IS USED ON HIGHWAYS, BUT HAVE LIVED HERE ALL MY LIFE AND NEVER HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE LINES ON ANY CAR OR TRUCK THAT I OWNED. THANK GOODNESS THE PROBLEM WAS NOTICED BEFORE THEY FAILED. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND SAW THIS WAS AND IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR AND MAKE OF TRUCK... HUMM SEEMS STRANGE WHY SO MANY PEOPLE HAVING SAME ISSUE ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.TRUCK IS GARAGE KEEP IN SUMMER AND ONLY DRIVEN IN WINTER. SO I ASK SOMEONE TO PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER FOR ME, FOR AS A SINGLE PARENT THIS BILL OF $538.00 WILL TAKE ME YEARS TO PAY OFF, FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A DEFECT. *JS
AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON- BAD IMPACT SENSOR RIGHT FRONT. *TR
I WAS GETTING READY TO BRAKE MY VEHICLE AT A STOP SIGN, AS I APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL IT WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE TRUCK. I ONLY LIVED CLOSE BY SO I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. WHEN I INSPECTED THE TRUCK , BRAKE FLUID WAS ALL OVER MY ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I COULD SEE MY FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE STEEL BRAKE LINE WAS ROTTED OUT. *TR
ANOTHER VEHICLE TRAVELING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION CAME COMPLETELY INTO MY LANE. TO AVOID A HEAD-ON COLLISION, I SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES, LAID ON THE HORN AND MOVED AS FAR TO THE RIGHT AS I POSSIBLY COULD. FORTUNATELY, THE CAR COMING TOWARD ME SWERVED BACK INTO THE PROPER LANE AT THE VERY LAST INSTANCE. CRISIS AVERTED? NO ... AS I APPROACHED THE NEXT TURN IN THE ROAD (A SHARP 20 MPH TURN) ON A 45 MPH ROAD, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE TRUCK BARELY SLOWED ENOUGH TO MAKE IT THOUGH THE TURN. I THEN LIMPED THE NEXT QUARTER MILE USING THE PARKING (EMERGENCY) BRAKE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE UNTIL I GOT TO A SAFE PLACE TO GET OFF THE ROAD. AT THAT POINT, I REALIZED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM AT LEAST ONE OF THE STEEL HYDRAULIC LINES INSIDE THE WHEEL WELL ABOVE THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT WHEEL. SOME OF THE FLUID WAS HITTING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND CREATING SMOKE. I AM NOW HAVING ALL THE RUSTED STEEL BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINE REPLACED WITH STAINLESS STEEL. *TR

WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO AVOID A COLLISION, THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THANKFULLY, THE ONCOMING VEHICLE WENT BACK TO THEIR LANE AND WE WERE ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP. UPON EXAMINATION, ALL FOUR BRAKE LINES ON THE FRONT HALF OF THE TRUCK WERE BADLY RUSTED AND LEAKING. THE UNDERCARRIAGE ON OUR 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO IS EXTREMELY RUSTED. FUEL LINES. TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES, BRAKE LINES, FRAME, BODY PANELS ALL HAVE LARGE AMOUNTS OF RUST. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW IN 2004. IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN A FLOOD. *TR
WHILE DRIVING UNDER GOOD CONDITIONS, SUNNY, DRY ROAD SURFACE, APPROXIMATELY 65 DEGREES, ASPHALT CONDITIONS EXCELLENT, NOT IN TRAFFIC, NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME, NO CARS BEHIND, THE TRUCK WAS EMPTY AND HAD ONLY ONE PERSON, THE DRIVER. I STARTED TO SLOW FOR AN INTERSECTION AND THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND. THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I WAS AT LEAST 400 FT FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT EQUIPPED INTERSECTION AT THE TIME. I WAS ABLE TO DOWN SHIFT. THE TRUCK IS EQUIPPED WITH SOME VERY LOW GEARING FOR TOWING AND BY SHIFTING DOWN THROUGH THE GEARS I WAS ABLE TO STOP BEFORE THE INTERSECTION. THE BRAKES HAD VERY LITTLE STOPPING POWER LEFT. THERE WAS NO INDICATOR THAT I WAS LOSING BRAKE FLUID PRESSURE. HOWEVER HAD I BEEN ON A HIGHWAY, THE TRUCK FULLY LOADED, IN HEAVY TRAFFIC OR ON A BIG HILL THIS COULD HAVE TURNED OUT MUCH WORSE. REVIEWING THE BRAKE LINES YOU COULD SEE THAT THEY WERE UNIFORMLY CORRODED ON ALL EXPOSED LINES.THE CORROSION IS HEAVY AND IT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO DETERMINE THE SURFACE CONDITION OF THE BRAKE LINE. A LEAK HAD DEVELOPED AT A BEND, IN THE LINE, JUST UNDER THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER. YOU REALLY CANNOT SEE THE LEAK DUE TO THE SURFACE CONDITION. YOU KNOW IT IS THERE DUE TO THE VISUALLY SEEING THE BRAKE FLUID SPURTING OUT. ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ON THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK MUST BE REPLACED AND DUE TO WHAT I WOULD CONSIDER DEFECTIVE BRAKE LINE MATERIAL I WILL HAVE ALL OF THE LINES REPLACED. I STATE THAT I FEEL THEY ARE DEFECTIVE OR OF EXTREMELY INFERIOR QUALITY DO THE FACT THAT OTHER LINES IN THE TRUCK SHOW NO CORROSION AT ALL, SUCH AS THE AC LINES, THE LOWER TRANSMISSION LINES, LOWER GAS LINE, THESE WHILE TARNISHED ARE NOT CORRODING. THIS IS THE FIRST FAILURE OF THIS TYPE ON THE TRUCK. PREVIOUSLY I HAD AN EXHAUST GASKET BREAK AND THE ALTERNATOR FAIL ALL OTHER WORK HAS BEEN MAINTENANCE TYPE WORK SUCH AS OIL CHANGES. I PURCHASED THE TRUCK NEW. *TR

WHILE DRIVING IN HEAVY DENVER, COLORADO TRAFFIC LATE AFTERNOON HOURS OF 07/18/2014, MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD, DURAMAX LLY HAD A "SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION OF ENGINE POWER". GM WAS AWARE OF THIS AS EARLY AS AUGUST 17, 2009, AS PER THEIR BULLETIN # 09-06-04-034. THIS BULLETIN STATES THIS MAY BE CAUSED BY THE FUEL INJECTOR WIRE HARNESS RUBBING AGAINST THE BRACKET AND CHAFING THE WIRE INSULATION. THIS OCCURRED ON MY VEHICLE CAUSING ONE WIRE TO SHORT AGAINST THE BRACKET. THIS IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN THE AFFECTED CYLINDER BANK RESULTING IN AN IMMEDIATE REDUCTION OF ENGINE POWER. WAS PICKING UP MY CHILDREN FROM SUMMER SCHOOL AND HAD THE AIR CONDITIONER ON. I WAS LEAVING MY HOME TO DO AN ERRAND, WHILE NEARING AN INTERSECTION I APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN IT DROPPED TO THE FLOOR . COMING TO AN INTERSECTION 10 MPH, BRAKE PADDLE WENT TO FLOOR. EMERGENCY BRAKE SAVED ME. ROTTEN BRAKE LINES WERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. ONE YEAR LATER FOUR MORE BRAKE LLINES REPLACED BECAUSE OF LEAKS. ALL FOUR WERE RUSTED OUT.
2 PROBLEMS: 1- WHILE DRIVING WITH NO WARNING THE BRAKES FAILED. AFTER COASTING TO A STOP I NOTICED A BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED AT THE FRAME RAIL UNDER DRIVER AREA. I WAS ABLE TO CRIMP BRAKE LINE WITH A PAIR OF VICE GRIP PLIERS AND MOVE TRUCK TO A SAFE LOCATION FOR REPAIR. I BELIEVE THE BRAKE LINES USED ON THESE TRUCKS TO BE OF SUCH INFERIOR QUALITY THAT SUDDEN FAILURE IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE. 2- MY TRUCK HAS DUAL TANKS FOR DIESEL FUEL AND THEY HAVE WORKED SPORADICALLY FOR YEARS. I DID NOT SEE THIS AS A SAFETY ISSUE AS MUCH AS AN INCONVENIENCE. HOWEVER WHILE MY TRUCK WAS IDLING ON A HOT SUMMER DAY I NOTICED DIESEL FUEL DRIPPING OUT OF THE FRONT TANK FILLER CAP. APPARENTLY THE PUMP THAT PUMPS THE FUEL FROM THE REAR TANK TO THE FRONT TANK WAS RECEIVING A SIGNAL TO PUMP EVEN THOUGH THE FRONT TANK WAS COMPLETELY FILLED. IT WAS CONTINUING TO PUMP AND LEAKING THE FUEL OUT THE FILLER NECK. THIS SEEMS LIKE A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD TO ME. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM IS THE FLOAT THAT STICKS IN THE REAR TANK, THE SENDING UNITS THAT FAIL, A WIRING GROUND ISSUE OR SOME OTHER ELECTRONIC GLITCH. I DO KNOW ISSUES WITH DUAL TANK DURAMAX DIESEL TRUCKS ARE ABOUT AS COMMON AS THE TRUCK ITSELF IS. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE I REALIZED MANY OTHER OWNERS OF MY VEHICLE MODEL HAVE HAD BOTH OF THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS SO I THOUGHT I SHOULD REPORT THEM.

NEW ENGINEERING SURE IS NOT LIKE THE OLD. YOU PAY A MUCH BIGGER PRICE NOW DAYS FOR A LOT LESS QUALITY? HE TOOK VEHICLE FOR TEST RIDE TO DUPLICATE & LOCATE THE NOISE. WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY TEST DRIVE HE APPLIED THE BRAKES & A BRAKE LINE FAILED DUMPING FLUID ON HIGHWAY. MY LEFT FRONT STEEL BRAKE LINE LOCATED ON TOP OF FRAME UNDER DRIVER SIDE AT FIREWALL HAD BURST. ALL 4 BRAKE LINES IN THAT 4" LONG AREA WERE BADLY RUSTED. REMOVED ALL THE BRAKE LINES AND THAT APPEARS TO BE THE HEAVIEST AREA OF HEAVY RUST.
A BADLY RUSTED BRAKE LINE BURST WHILE I WAS STOPPING FOR A STOP SIGN. I MANAGED TO STOP THE VEHICLE WITHOUT INCIDENT AND GET IT HOME, BUT UPON INSPECTION, I FOUND THAT ALL OF THE METALLIC BRAKE LINES WHICH RUN TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE ARE RUSTED TO SOME DEGREE. THE LINE WHICH BURST RUNS ALONG THE FRAME IN THE VICINITY OF THE GAS TANK. I OWN A 1971 JEEP COMMANDO WHICH STILL HAS ITS ORIGINAL METALLIC BRAKE LINES, AND THEY ARE NOT THE LEAST BIT RUSTY. IT IS DISTURBING TO ME THAT A MODERN VEHICLE WOULD BE CONSTRUCTED WITH MATERIALS INFERIOR TO THOSE USED MORE THAN 40 YEARS AGO. *TR
I HAVE THE CASTECH HEADS ON MY TRUCK THAT ARE KNOWN FOR GETTING CRACKS IN THEM AND LEAKING ANITIFREEZE INTO THE ENGINE. THE WAY IT SOUNDS THERE SHOULD OF BEEN A RECALL ON THESE HEADS, THIS ISN'T A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR DEAL. WHY SHOULD THE CONSUMER PAY FOR THE COST OF REPLACING SOMETHING THAT OBVIOUSLY IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT SINCE MORE THAN JUST ONE PERSON IS COMPLAINING. ON JUNE 27,2014 APPROX. 6:30PM MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AS I WAS BACKING UP TO TURN MY TRUCK AROUND IN THE DRIVEWAY. I PROCEEDED TO PUT THE TRUCK IN DRIVE AND PUSHED THE BRAKE AGAIN AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK AND GOT OUT AND LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND NOTICED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS POURING OUT FROM UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE CAB. I GOT A CLOSER LOOK AT WHAT WAS GOING ON AND THAT IS WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD BURST. I ALSO NOTICED HOW EXTREMELY RUSTY THE BRAKE LINES WERE. THE BRAKE LINES WERE IN SUCH BAD SHAPE FROM RUST THAT REPAIRING IT WAS NOT AN OPTION. THE LINES NEEDED TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO SHELOR MOTOR MILE IN CHRISTIANSBURG, VA ON 7/3/14. I TOLD THEM TO REPLACE THE BRAKE LINES BECAUSE THEY WERE TOO RUSTED TO REPAIR AND I DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT WITH THE BRAKE LINES IN SUCH BAD SHAPE. I PICKED UP MY TRUCK ON 7/10/14 AND I ALSO GOT MY OLD BRAKE LINES THAT WAS REMOVED FROM THE TRUCK. AFTER I GOT HOME I GOT UNDER THE TRUCK AND LOOKED AT THE NEW BRAKE LINES AND NOTICED THEY HAD A BLACK COATING ON THEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THE COATING WAS TO RUST PROOF THE BRAKE LINES WHICH THE OLD LINES DID NOT HAVE. I FELT VERY FORTUNATE THAT THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOT ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE IT COULD HAVE BEEN REAL BAD ACCIDENT. *TR
