NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the mileage was 122,000. After obtaining a Carfax report, it was discovered that the mileage was 202,000.
The front airbag impact sensor when they stop working will not work on impact. You can get them from GMC because they stopped making them and you can not find them on the aftermarket. How can a company discontinue a safety part.

Suspension system potentially life threatening. On [XXX] I purchased a 2005 Chevy Silverado truck from used car dealer in Tallassee, AL/$6000. Several days after driving home at Interstate speeds, I discovered extreme rust on the underside of the truck. The spare tire rim was unusable from rust and the tire hoist was rusted beyond use--I had to cut the tire hoist cable tip with a grinder and let the tire fall to the driveway. At that point, I found an extremely unsafe and dangerous defect to the truck. The top of the right rear shock absorber was not attached to the truck frame. The connector bracket had rusted completely away from the truck frame. I texted pictures and called the dealer and was told the sale was “as is”--not his problem. I asked if he inspected, or even looked at the bottom of the truck—his text reply was “I personally did not do anything other than a walk around and test drive” He later said by text he had been a used car dealer for 32 years and had an excellent reputation. Subsequent research found NHTSA-DOT’s 49 CFR Section 570.8 -Suspension Systems-- where it states “Shock absorber mountings, shackles, and U-bolts shall be securely attached.” I believe the licensed used car dealer failed to properly inspect the used truck and clearly did not identify and report to me, the buyer, hidden potential life threatening deficiencies of the suspension system and other defects that would dramatically reduce the value of the vehicle. At that point the dealer refused to answer his phone or texts. My local mechanic advised me not to use the truck and only drive it (below 45 mph) in light traffic for short drives to keep the truck running and the battery charged. I have owned vehicles for over [XXX] and have never had any problems with any of the vehicles. I am [XXX]. I reported this to the Alabama Dept of Revenue ("ALDOR" - [XXX]) 8 Apr 25 and received a confirmation of receipt. No response yet-23 Apr 25. Please help. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
03/09/2025 Purchased 2005 Chev Silverado 1500 from Tony's Trade Co, Inc. Owner stated he had been a highly respected licensed used car dealer 34 years. AutoCheck had no issues. 1-Component: Right Rear Shock absorber--critical suspension part (49 CFR Section 570.8 Suspension Systems)-mechanic agrees. Upper mounting bracket to frame totally rusted away. Bottom of shock absorber attached--top floating in the air. Shock absorber is untouched and available for inspection. 2-Truck was driven at highway speeds several time before unattached shock absorber noticed - found. One trip included a medium load for the truck. 3-Free floating shock absorber top is apparent in pictures. I sent the used car dealer a photo of the detached shock absorber top and mount. Will pay for a professional view and statement of the shock absorber if requested by you. Heavy rust under the truck bed/frame will require extensive metal replacement to make a hard connection bracket for attachment. 4-No manufacturer, police, etc inspection. Detached and severely rusted shock absorber top and frame bracket are obvious in pictures. Will get reports if needed. 5-No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem until I tried to remove the spare tire to fix and clean it. Spare hoist was severely rusted and unable to lower--cut hoist cable tip and let drop on floor. That is when I was able to see the detached right rear shock absorber. 6 EXTRA: Seller quote: "this is a good truck. I would sell to anyone. Like new tires and does not need one thing mechanical and in excellent condition." Tires range from DOT 2622 to DOT 1323-not new. Extreme frame rust. I drive truck 35-45 mph twice/week on low traffic highway to keep truck running and battery charged. Reported to AL Dept of Revenue 8 Apr 25--ALDOR-127348-said I would get response in 24 hours, none yet. I called seller was told truck was sold "as is". Seller will not answer phone or text messages.
I bought tires from Walmart.com website in July 15 2023 and had them installed on a 2005 Chevrolet 2500 HD pickup. This was at the Walmart Laramie store. Between that time and Fall of 2024 one of the tires had a flat and Walmart Laramie, Wy replaced it. On October 7 2024 going to Riverton, Wy. the right rear passenger tire had a blow out. This was on I-80 going west towards Rawlins. It scared the beejeezus out of my young grandchildren. Four hours later, it was replaced with the spare (I did not have a jack in the vehicle and called a tow company). I took the tire to Walmart Riverton and they told me in the tire center that the tire was too badly damaged. They wondered where I had bought the tires. I told them in Laramie at Walmart. They looked me up online and found the tires. They told me they could not replace the tire although it was under warranty. The problem was that they are car tires and not light truck tires!!! They told me to call up Laramie Walmart and the tire manager would take care of me. I went home and did so. Jackson the tire manager said he wasn't going to replace them and that it was all my fault and that I forced them to put those tires on! He lied to me about what happened with the tires and them installing them. I went back to Riverton Walmart and again talked to the tire manager (Tyrone). He said that he would talk to the store Manager and they would make it right. He said he would order the correct ones, install them and then charge the Laramie store. I'm not driving the vehicle anywhere. What can I do about it? I know nothing about tires and have never been a tire company employee. This has been going on for months. Last week the Riverton store said they could mount and balance tires for free but I would have to seek a refund from the Laramie store to reimburse me after I buy new tires for $1200. I live on Social Security of $1229 a month!! 2 of 4 tires have failed and I don't have anywhere near the 60,000 miles warranty Can you help us?
Fuel fitting break and leak fuel everywhere I have had two of these trucks that have done this and it has made my animals sick
AIR BAG LIGHT ON, LIGHT ON GEAR SHIFT REAL DIM
Air bag impact sensor under radiator cracked and is no bad
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle in the morning, there were several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that the starter motor was not turning over as designed. The contact stated that she had to wait until all the warning lights had stopped being illuminated and then the vehicle was able to be started. The contact stated that the failure had become a recurring failure. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the failure was an electrical failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
Power steering system has failed. Power steering pump where the hose is connected leaks out any power steering fluid left after I pour more in and turn the truck on. Issue has caused the rack and pinion steering system to leak from the left side, and cause a whining noise when I turn the truck left or right when making sharp turns or backing up. Dealership failed to look at the truck with a simple inspection.
Recently replaced o2 Sensor and cleared check engine status. I failed the state emissions test because the Cat indicates inc or not ready,(catalytic converter). The procedure to clear this condition is dangerous and unreasonable. It calls for accelerating to 55MPH or higher for 2-3 minutes then decelerating to 20 MPH, not using brakes, and travel for 2 minutes then accelerating back to 55MPH, repeating this process up to 5 cycles to clear the CAT status. Given the drive speed this procedure would have to be done on a highway and could very likely cause a collision. This is very hazardous and should not be a requirement to complete vehicle inspection.
I have had brakes fail twice because of corroded brake lines now one of my fuel lines ruptured because of corrosion I have been told by mechanics that corroded failing lines is a common issue on Silverado's
code po446 will not go away it is costing me a fortune to fix now i cant get it through inspection in delaware i dont have the funds to get a new vehicle
The airbag light is on. I took it to the chevy dealership on battlecreek rd, the service clerk said they do not work on vehicles with over 150k miles. How do I get the airbag serviced.
Frame is rotten badly but cab and bed hardly any rust. Used bad metal for frame and crossmembers.
Design flaw - Brake light switch- the end section of the internal spring is placed in a position that allows it to potentially slide down and block the space needed for when the plunger is depressed, jamming up the switches ability to properly function. I have not determined what happened to the switch on my truck, but noticed that this scenario was a possibility and felt obligated to report my opinion.
Frame broken behind cab on both sides
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 mph, he lost control of the vehicle due to losing consciousness. The vehicle left the roadway and went airborne and crashed with a road sign landing in a field. None of the airbags deployed and only the seatbelt lap belt tensioned not the shoulder strap. The contact sustained injuries such as several lacerations across the face and inside the mouth, and broken L1 vertebrae. The contact mentioned he fractured the steering wheel with his face during the impact. A police report was filed and the vehicle was towed to a local lot then towed again to the contacts insurance lot where it was awaiting a diagnosis. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 281,000.
As I approached an intersection to make a left-hand turn, I stepped on my trucks brake pedal. I experienced a complete loss of braking power, with the trucks brake pedal going straight to the floor, after an instant of a firm, solid pedal. Pumped the pedal to try to regain brake operation to no avail. No hydraulic pressure was present. No warning lights or other indications of brake system failure occurred. Truck was driven home a very short distance using e-brake. Brake fluid was seen dripping from the rear axle area in large amounts. Truck was towed to my local garage which found a burst steel brake line at the junction with the rear hydraulic flex hose. Other brake lines were heavily rusted. Rest of the undercarriage was not similarly rust like the brake lines. The garage stated this was not the first Silverado they saw with this problem. All steel lines were replaced with stainless steel lines, and as a precaution we replaced all brake hoses as well. The bleeder screws on the front disk brake calipers, and on the rear wheel cylinders were also found heavily rusted and frozen, so those components were replaced as well. The shop stated this issue of severe corrosion of brake lines and bleeders is very common on this generation of Silverado’s . They have repaired quite a few like mine after similar brake failures. If you research the issue on-line, there certainly is a problem with these trucks. In my 45 years as a mechanic and practicing mechanical engineer, I have never seen brake system components so severely corroded as the ones removed from my truck. I was lucky I wasn’t towing anything, or was at highway speed when the failure occurred. The next owner may not be that lucky if it happens to them.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle started to leak fuel and the brake line would leak causing the brakes to lose power whenever the brake pedal was depressed. The contact also stated that the fuel tank strap fractured due to rust causing the fuel tank to detach from the vehicle. The contact stated that the rear leaf spring fractured due to rust as well. The contact also stated that the entire sub-frame of the vehicle was rusted causing pieces of metal to fall off from the frame while driving. The brake warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the brake lines, fuel lines, the rear leaf shackle, and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.
GIVING ME A MESSAGE THAT SAYS SERVICE AIR BAG. ALSO HAVING PROBLEMS WITH INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS FADING OUT.
I WENT TO A GUYS HOUSE WHO WAS SELLING A 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO WITH 114,000 MILES ON THE CLUSTER. HE DIDN'T HAVE THE TITLE UNDER HIS NAME. HE WAS TITLE SKIPPING. GAVE HIM 5,000.00 THAT HE WAS ASKING FOR ON 11/02/2020 THEN WENT TO FIND THE OWNER WITH HIS NAME ON TITLE. HAD HIM SIGN THE TITLE OVER TO ME. WENT TO DMV AND CHANGED THE TITLE UNDER MY NAME. THEN 11/28/2020 I RAN A CARFAX REPORT TO SEE WHAT MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN DONE ON MY TRUCK AND IT SAYS THAT MY TRUCK HAD MORE THAN 250,000 MILES ON IT. I CONFRONT THE MAN THAT SAME DAY. AND ASKED HIM IF HE CHANGED THE MILEAGE HE SAID YES. I THEN ASKED HIM TO GIVE 2,000.00 BECAUSE THE TRUCK IS NOT WORTH 5,000.00 HE SAID HE WAS NOT GOING TO GIVE ME A PENNY. SO I MADE A POLICE REPORT THAT SAME DAY ON 11/28/2020
OCTOBER 29,2020 I WAS TRAVELING DOWN A HIGHWAY WHEN I NOTICED TRAFFIC WAS STOPPED AND WHEN I WENT TO APPLY MY BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD NOTHING NOT EVEN A LIGHT CAME ON TO NOTIFY MY OF AN ISSUE. I ALSO TRIED TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND IT SNAPPED AND AT THAT POINT I HAD TO LEAVE THE ROAD WAY TO AVOID HITTING ANY CARS OR ANYONE, AND IN DOING SO IWENT TOWARDS A DITCH AND RAMPED A DRIVEWAY. WE HAVE ;LOOKED INTO THE RECALLS AND ITS THE SAME PARTS WE ARE HAVING TROUBLE WITH ON THIS TRUCK AND WHY IT CAUSED ME TO WRECK. HYDRO BOOST SYSTEM, AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE SYSTEM. THE CODES THAT I PULLED FROM THE NHTSA. THESE ALL ARE WHATS HAS HAPPENED WITH MY VEHICLE. 04V376000 05V161000 05V043000 IF YOU NEED ANY ADDITIONAL INFO PLEASE LET ME KNOW I HAVE A VIDEO I TRIED TO SEND FROM THE HOMEOWNERS SECURITY CAMERA OF THE TRUCK RAMPING HIS DRIVE BUT IT WAS TOO LARGE TO UPLOAD AND I HAVE TO GET ANOTHER COPY OF THE POLICE REPORT IF YOU WOULD LIKE THAT.
MY SON WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE TRUCK STARTED SHAKING. HE PULLED OVER AND SAW THAT THE TIRE WAS COMING APART. THIS IS A SUMITOMO TIRE 285/50R20 115H. DOT V4JD 3MTR4910. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION ESPECIALLY BECAUSE ALL OF THE TIRES ARE THE SAME. THE TRUCK WAS PARKED UNTIL WE CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO.
THE SERVICE AIR BAG SOON LIGHT CAME ON MONTHS BEFORE THE NATIONAL RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED. IT IS STILL ON, YET MY 2005 IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET MY TRUCK THROUGH STATE INSPECTION WITH THAT LIGHT ON? IT SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
SON WAS DRIVING TRUCK AND BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR. ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF HIM. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK HOME, I FOUND A LEAK IN THE BRAKE LINE UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR THAT APPEARS TO BE DUE TO RUST.
THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDES LIGHTS STARTED GOING OFF BY THEMSELVES. THERE WAS NO SMOKE OR BURNING SMELL. MY HUSBAND WAS GOING TOO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT ON PRESIDENTS DAY, BUT THE TRUCK BURNT THE DAY BEFORE. OUR INSURANCE WOULD NOT COVER IT DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. SO HERE WE ARE OUT VEHICLE.
THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON. ANYTIME THE ENGINE IS RUNNING.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS COMING OFF HEADS ARE FALLING OFF PAUSE AN EXHAUST LEAK AND GIVING ME HEADACHES. FROM THE LOOKS OF IT HAS BEEN OFF FOR QUITE SOME TIME I'M JUST NOW NOTICING IT
WHILE DRIVING AND TOWING A 9000# TRAILER NOTICED BRAKE PEDAL WAS GETTING A LITTLE SPONGY. STOPPED AT REST AREA AND CHECKED THE FLUID AND NOTICED IT WAS QUITE LOW. LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND COULD SEE FLUID DRIPPING FROM A BRAKE LINE. MECHANIC PUT THE TRUCK ON THE RACK AND SHOWED WHERE ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND THE ONE HAD RUSTED THROUGH. MECHANIC SAID THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL TRUCK. REPLACE ALL METAL BRAKE LINES WITH STAINLESS STEEL LINES, ALSO REPLACE ALL THE RUBBER LINES AS A PRECAUTION.
THE STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN STARTED WITH A SLIGHT RATTLING WHEN ON A ROAD WITH BUMPS. IT HAS NOW BECOME VERY LOUD AND RAISED A SAFETY CONCERN. THE DEALER HAS DONE AN INSPECTION AND ADVISED REPLACEMENT OF BEARING AND BUSHING. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN! *TR
HI MY NAME IS [XXX] MY EMAIL IS [XXX]. I'VE HAD MY 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO SS TRUCK WITH THE 6.0 ENGINE FOR FIVE YEARS. IN THOSE 5 YEARS I HAVE HAD TO CHANGE THE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY'S AND THE FRONT ROTORS 7 TIMES. I'M PRETTY SICK OF THIS RECURRING ISSUE I SEE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE REGULAR SILVERADOS FOR MY YEAR BUT NOT ON THE 6.0 ENGINE I'M NOT SURE WHAT GIVES BUT I NEED THIS PROBLEM TO BE RECTIFIED. THIS IS A NORMAL EVERYDAY DRIVING VEHICLE TO AND FROM WORK NOTHING SPECTACULAR AND THERE SHOULDN'T BE THAT MUCH WEAR AND TEAR ON THOSE PARTS IN THAT LITTLE BIT OF TIME I'VE OWNED TONS OF OTHER VEHICLES FOR THAT AMOUNT OF TIME AND LONGER AND I'VE NEVER HAD TO CHANGE THAT PART ONCE I'VE HAD TO CHANGE IT 7 TIMES ON THIS VEHICLE I REALLY LOVE MY VEHICLE AND DON'T WANT TO SELL IT SO I'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT IF THERE IS A PERMANENT FIX FOR IT OR A RECALL. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
WHILE TRAVELING IN TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY AT LESS THAN 30 MILES PER HOUR WHEN I WENT TO APPLY MY BRAKES THE ABS CAME ON IMMEDIATELY SHORTENING MY SAFE STOPPING DISTANCE ENOUGH SO THE END RESULT WAS A COLLISION.
I HAVE HAD TWO VALVE STEM FAILURES IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS. THE VALVE STEMS THAT WERE PUT IN WHEN I REPLACED THE TIRES ARE RATED AT 65 PSI MAX. THE TRUCKS RECOMMENDED TIRE PRESSURE IS 80 PSI. THE TWO TIRE INSTALLERS THAT I TALKED TO SAY THE 65 PSI VALVE STEMS ARE INSTALLED FOR ALL VEHICLES. IS THIS REALLY SAFE?
WHILE DRIVING APPROX 50MPH ON 2-LANE HIGHWAY A BRAKE LINE BURST UNDER HARD BRAKING (VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME SUDDENLY SLOWED TO MAKE A TURN OFF THE HIGHWAY) DUE TO RUST. PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND I LOST SIGNIFICANT BRAKING POWER. THIS RESULTED IN A MINOR ACCIDENT WHERE I DENTED THE BUMPER OF THE TRUCK THAT WAS TURNING AND SIGNIFICANTLY BENT THE RIGHT END OF MY FRONT BUMPER. WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE THE TRIP THE LAST 50 MILES TO MY DESTINATION BUT BRAKING DISTANCES WERE CONSIDERABLY LONGER THAN NORMAL. TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO SAID ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED.
LOW MILEAGE 2005 TRUCK. AT JUST UNDER 50,000 MILES PASSENGER AIRBAG DASH LIGHT CAME ON (NOV. 2018). PERFORMED PROTOCOL ACCORDING TO MANUAL AND IT TURNED OFF. CAME BACK ON SAME DAY AFTER MOVING PASSENGER SEAT TO CLEAN. DEALERSHIP IN MISSOULA MONTANA CLAIMED NEEDED PASSENGER AIRBAG REPLACEMENT, COST OVER $800.00. ADMITTED NOT A PROBLEM MECHANICALLY THAT WOULD AFFECT THE TRUCK IF DID NOT REPLACE. AFTER READING ON THIS SITE THE RELIABILITY OF THE AIR BAGS IN THIS TRUCK, NOT WORTH IT TO ME. MILEAGE TODAY MARCH 2019 LITTLE UNDER 51,000.
WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED WHILE DRIVING AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE FEATURE ENGAGES BECAUSE OF SLICK CONDITIONS, THE BRAKES LOCK UP AND REMAIN THAT WAY EVEN WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED. THIS CAUSES THE TRUCK TO GO INTO A SLIDE. IT HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS BUT ONLY WHEN THE ABS IS ENGAGING.
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED LIT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THIS IS 3RD TIME MY BRAKES BLOW A LINE IN 2 YEARS AND THE FIRST 2 TIMES ONE TIME I WAS HOLDING MY BRAKES WHILE BACKING UP A HILL ON MY PROPERTY WITH A TRAILER ATTACHED, THE SECOND COMING TO A STOP SIGN AND THIS LAST TIME GOING DOWN A STEEP HILL COMING TO AN INTERSECTION. I JUST CHANGED THE LINE THAT WAS BROKEN THE FIRST TWO TIMES. I HAD FILED A COMPLAINT WITH YOU LAST YEAR BUT I CANNOT FIND THE INFO. THIS TIME I CHANGED ALL OF THE LINES AS IT SCARED ME BAD THIS TIME AS I LIVE IN THE MOUNTAINS AND DID NOT WISH TO PUSH MY LUCK ANY FURTHER. CHEVROLET WANTED OVER $1,200 TO CHANGE THEM OUT USING THE SAME MATERIALS THAT FAILED IN THE FIRST PLACE. I HAD THEM CHANGED AT NAPA FOR $680 USING COPPER/NICKEL WHICH IS A SUPERIOR PRODUCT. GM'S EXCUSE FOR THE LINES RUSTING OUT WAS THE CUSTOMER DID NOT WASH THE LINES OFF WHEN SALT GOT ON THEM. YOU CANNOT GET TO MOST OF THE LINES TO WASH THEM OFF. THE AMOUNT OF BRAKE LINE FAILURES IS OVERWHELMING AND TO SAY THE LEAST DANGEROUS AS HELL. I AM SENDING SOME PHOTOS OF SOME OF THE LINES AND WILL MAIL PIECES OF THE LINE TO YOU IF IT WILL DO ANY GOOD. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF I SHOULD SEND THE PIECES OF LINE. THANKS [XXX] PS: IT SEEMS THAT I CAN ONLY SEND ONE PHOTO PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW TO SEND MORE... WHILE TRAVELING AT ABOUT 5 MPH, I EXPERIENCE A TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. THE PETAL DROPPED TO THE FLOOR. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE RESULTING IN A REAR END COLLISION WITH THE STOPPED VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A BRAKE LINE RUPTURED. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT IT WAS A LAW THAT VEHICLES OF THIS YEAR HAD A DUAL BRAKING SYSTEM TO AVOID THIS SITUATION. IF THIS VEHICLE DOES HAVE SUCH A SYSTEM IT DID NOT FUNCTION.THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED FROM THE SCENE SINCE IT HAD NO BRAKES.
I got into an accident with my 2005 chevy silverado by rear ending some one at a stop sign. I pulled up behind the vehicle and stopped to wait for them to go the it was my turn she didn't look well enough and had to hit her breaks again and so then did I but my truck did not stop in time because the breaking system delayed
BRAKE LINES RUSTING OUT NO WARNING NO BRAKES. ON HIGHWAY WITH MY GRANDCHILDREN WENT TO HIT THEE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR I DID GET IT STOPPED AND TOWED HOME BUT COULD HAVE BEEN REAL BAD IF MY FAMILY WAS HURT. ONLY 100000 ON MY TRUCK AND WELL CARED FOR OIL AND EVERYTHING

THE BRAKE LINE ABOVE THE FUEL TANK BLEW OUT. IT WAS NOT GRADUAL EITHER. THE PREVIOUS STOP GAVE ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING. THE NEXT STOP BRAKE INSTANTLY WENT TO THE FLOOR.
USED AUX PORT TO CHARGE CELL PHONE. WITH IN SECONDS SMOKE STARTS COMING FROM DASH. AFTER CONTAINING FIRE I REMOVED DASH COVER TO FIND THAT THE POWER WIRE THAT CONTROLS AUX PORT AND OBD2 PORT HAD OVER LOADED AND CAUGHT FIRE WITH CAUSED INTERNAL DAMAGE TO ALL ELECTRICAL AND INTERNAL DASH. AFTER DOING COMPLETE WALK THROUGH I NOTICED IN FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD THAT THE FUSE THAT CONTROLS 2 AUXS HAD MELTED DOWN. RIGHT FUSE WAS INSTALLED BEFORE ELECTRICAL FIRE. DURING TIME OF INCIDENT VEHICLE WAS MOBILE IN TOWN ON PUBLIC ROADS. AFTER CAB OF PICK UP STARTED FILLING WITH SMOKE I PULLED OVER AND USED CHEMICAL FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO SMOTHER FLAMES.
BRAKES FAILED. LEAK FROM CORRODED BRAKE LINE

TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO A RUPTURED METAL BRAKE LINE/PIPE. FAILURE OCCURRED IN MY DRIVEWAY WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MOVE THE TRUCK FORWARD. I UNDERSTAND THAT A RECALL FOR THIS FAILURE WAS DENIED FOR GENERAL MOTORS TRUCKS UP TO THE 2003 MODEL YEAR BUT MY TRUCK IS A 2005 MODEL, AND BASED ON WHAT I HAVE LEARNED, THIS FAILURE CONTINUES WITH NEWER MODELS. THIS RECALL NEEDS TO BE RE-OPENED AND RE-INVESTIGATED BY PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS AND MECHANICS. I'VE WORKED ON MOTOR VEHICLES ALL MY ADULT LIFE, FOR A TIME AS A CERTIFIED NEW YORK STATE INSPECTOR EVEN, AND NEVER SAW A CORROSION RELATED BRAKE FAILURE OF THIS NATURE. MY TRUCK IS NOT A WORK TRUCK. THIS TYPE OF BRAKE FAILURE CAN, AND LIKELY HAS BEEN THE RESULT OF FATAL ACCIDENTS. THERE ARE NOW WELL OVER 3.5K COMPLAINTS AND HUNDREDS OF ACCIDENTS RELATING TO THIS SPECIFIC BRAKE FAILURE ON GM TRUCKS.
