I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHICH IS 1.5 MILES, WHEN I HEARD A THUMPING SOUND, AND IT SEEMED AS IF MY REAR WHEELS WERE NOT TURNING. I HAD A FRIEND TOW IT TO THE DEALER COX CHEVROLET IN BRADENTON, FL, AND THEY TOLD ME, THAT THE REAR END (SPIDER GEARS, AND BEARINGS) WERE NEEDING REPLACING BUT ARE NOT PART OF THE POWER TRAIN SO IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AND IT WOULD COST ME $2600. I HAD HIM TOW IT AGAIN TO A LOCAL TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS COMMON IN THAT YEAR OF CHEVY TRUCKS. I ALSO NEEDED BOTH CLUTCHES REPLACED IN EACH REAR WHEEL, COST WAS WELL UNDER THE DEALERS CHARGE. THE OWNER OF THE TRANSMISSION SHOP INFORMED ME THAT HE HAS REPLACED A COUPLE 100 OF THESE AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THEM. I COULD HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE WHEELS LOCKED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACTED STATED THAT HE ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE A FLAT TIRE BUT DISCOVERED THAT THE SPARE TIRE BRACKET WOULD NOT RELEASE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND ADVISED THAT THE SPARE TIRE BRACKET WAS CORRODED AND THE ASSEMBLY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE FAILURE WAS NOT RECALLED AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,471.
THERE IS A BAD SEAL WHERE THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE CONNECTS TO THE SHAFT FROM THE TRANSFER CASE. THIS IS A COMMON PART THAT HAPPENS TO LARGE NUMBER OF VEHICLES.
NOTICED VEHICLE VIBRATION AT SLOW SPEED AND PERSISTENT BUT NOT AS SEVERE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. NOT BEING A MECHANIC I THOUGHT IT FELT LIKE A TIRE OUT OF ROUND OR TIRE OUT OF BALANCE. TOOK IT TO A FIRESTONE SHOP TO INSPECT AND CORRECT PROBLEM. MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE RIGHT FRONT BEARING WAS FALLING APART AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRES WERE READY TO BE REPLACED THEY HAD 60,000 MILES ON THEM WITH A LITTLE CUPPING BUT FAIRLY EVEN WEAR. WITHOUT STOPPING TO CHECK THE TIRES THE BEARING MOST LIKELY WOULD HAVE FAILED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, WHICH PROBABLY WOULD HAVE PREVENTED ME FROM FILING THIS REPORT. *TR
2005 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500. AFTER MY VEHICLE WAS TOWED THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING. IT READS 16 MPH WHILE STOPPED AND STAYS 16 MPH OVER WHATEVER SPEED I'M TRAVELING. CHEVY NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. TOO MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
FRONT LEFT WHEEL BEARING ASSEMBLY FAILURE. HEARD SOUND COMING FROM FRONT END AND TOOK IT IN TO MECHANIC TO HAVE REPAIRED. BEARING ASSEMBLY WITH ABS SENSOR REPLACED. COST $450 FOR REPLACEMENT. VEHICLE MILEAGE 63,000 MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEATER FAN RESISTOR MELTED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY SPEEDOMETER IS PINNED AT 120MPH. MY TRUCK SITS IN THE DRIVE WAY AND IT SAYS I AM DOING 120MPH ALONG WITH MY TACH IS STUCK ON 5. *TR
1. SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING CREATING UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITION. 2. APPEARS TO BE PERMANENT BREAKAGE. 3. GM AGREED TO REPLACE FAULTY PART, BUT I STILL HAD TO PAY FOR LABOR. THEY AGREED THAT THE PART IS FAULTY YET STILL HOLD THE CUSTOMER FINANCIALLY ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR UNSAFE MISTAKE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, HE NOTICED THAT THE HEATER/COOLER HAD BECOME INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE HEATER RELAY AND THE WIRING HARNESS BECAUSE THE FINGERS WERE MELTED. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND TO BE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERNS OF A POTENTIAL FIRE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115,000. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS ON DRY PAVEMENT AND TRYING TO DECELERATE THE BRAKES WOULD GO STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR BOARD AND WOULD SLOWLY COME TO A STOP. HE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK WARNING WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER NOR HAD IT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND ADVISED HIM TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, SINCE THERE WERE NO RECALLS ISSUED ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 52,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO1500 HD.THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER GAVE INCORRECT SPEED INDICATIONS. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THERE WAS A SPECIAL MANUFACTURER'S RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,374.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD (NA). WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT BEGAN TO APPLY THE BRAKES TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. WHILE TURNING WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT IT TOOK EXTREME EFFORT TO STEERING THE VEHICLE AND APPLY THE BRAKES. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A HOSE LEAKING WHICH WAS CONNECTED TO THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 05V455000 (STEERING: HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST: HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS). THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 90,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE PASSENGER REAR BRAKE LINE BROKE BECAUSE IT WAS CORRODED WHICH CAUSED BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 44,000.
LAST WEEK I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING IN MY TRUCK. INVESTIGATED AND FOUND INSULATION WAS MELTING OFF HEATER BLOWER WIRES AT PLUG UNDER DASH. THREE OF THE WIRES HAD A HALF INCH OF EXPOSED CONDUCTOR SHOWING AT PIGTAIL. AT SAME TIME, MY HEATER FAN SWITCH QUIT WORKING AT THE TWO HIGHEST SPEED SETTINGS. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM ON INTERNET, I HAD TO REPLACE BLOWER RESISTOR AND WIRE PIGTAIL. FAN SWITCH WORKS NOW, BUT VENT SELECTOR SWITCH DOESN'T WORK NOW. MELTED WIRES COULD HAVE CAUSED TRUCK TO CATCH ON FIRE. I HAVE OLD RESISTOR AND MELTED PIGTAIL. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL SHOP WHERE THEY INFORMED THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,946 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,826.

SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT SHOW THE RIGHT SPEED WHICH THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING. AT ALMOST STANDSTILL SPEEDS IS SHOWS 15 MPH. AT HIGHER SPEEDS THE SPEEDOMETER SHOWS SPEEDS THAT ARE MUCH HIGHER THAN THOSE BEING DRIVEN BY THE VEHICLE. I CANNOT TRUST THIS GAUGE ANY LONGER. WILL BE CONTACTING GM TO REQUEST A FIX. I OWN A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD TRUCK. I HAVE ONLY 25,000 MILES ON THIS CAR. THE SPEEDOMETER HAS SUDDENLY BECOME ERRATIC AND DOES NOT DISPLAY THE CORRECT SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN I AM TRAVELING AT VERY LOW SPEED (CLOSE TO STANDING STILL) IT DISPLAYS 10 TO 15 MPH. AT HIGHER SPEEDS IT DISPLAYS SPEEDS THAT ARE MUCH GREATER THAN THE SPEED THAT THE VEHICLE IS REALLY TRAVELING AT. *TR
MOVING MY CHEVY 2500 SILVERADO (YEAR 2005) IN MY DRIVEWAY,I APPLIED MY BRAKES THE PEDAL WAS VERY SOFT AND WENT TO THE FLOOR,I APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE STOPPED THE TRUCK, GOT OUT TO LOOK WHAT HAPPENED. THERE WAS A LARGE MARK OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE DRIVEWAY,THE BRAKE LINE HAD FAILED,IT HAD CORROSION ALL OVER IT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED IT AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT BOTH HEADS WERE FRACTURED IN THE VALVES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.

THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF; UPON RESTART, THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT ALL OF THE STEERING MECHANISMS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 80,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOR AN UNRELATED ISSUE SHE NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS NOT FUNCTIONING. 2005 SILVERADO- ABS ENGAGES WHEN COMING TO A SLOW STOP, ON DRY PAVEMENT. ABS WILL ENGAGE AND PULSATE WHEN DRIVING 5-10 MPH, WITH OUT BRAKE PEDDLE BEING TOUCHED. ABS ENGAGING WHEN STOPPING OCCURS ON EVERY STOP, PULSATING WHILE IN MOTION ON RARE OCCASION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD. THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE AND SHIFTED THE GEAR SELECTOR INTO THE "DRIVE" POSITION; HOWEVER, THE PARK INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED FOR TEN SECONDS. IN ADDITION, THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS BECAME INOPERATIVE AND FAILED TO LOCK WHEN THE GEAR WAS PLACED IN "DRIVE". THE DOORS WOULD LOCK ONLY MANUALLY. ALSO, THE REAR BACK UP LIGHTS WOULD NOT FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TCM TRANSMISSION MODULE WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY AFTER THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 24,416.
THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL BEARING LOCKED UP AND MY TRUCK WAS UNDRIVABLE, IT MADE A LOAD CLUNKING NOISY AND THAT WAS IT, I JUST PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY TO GET GAS, AND WHEN I STARTED OUT OF THE STATION THE FRONT WHEEL LOCK UP, IT WAS GOOD TO HAVE HAPPEN THERE INSTEAD OF ON THE ROAD, OR I WOULD NOT BE WRITING THIS NOW, I HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK AND TOOK IT TO A DEALER, WHICH CONFIRMED THAT IT DID INDEED LOCK UP THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL AND THE RIGHT ONE WAS VERY LOOSE,NEEDS TO BE REPLACE ALSO, IT BUNED THE HAD BURNED THE BRAKES COMPLETELY UP ON THE DRIVER SIDE, WHERE IT WAS TOTALLY LOCK UP, THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THEY REPLACE THEM ALL THE TIME FROM ONE YEAR OLD AND UP SO THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING WRONG IN THIS TYPE OF BEARING, THEY ARE VERY EXPENSIVE TO BE REPLACED, MY TRUCK HAS 47,450 MILES AND HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAIN, SO THERE IS NO REASON THAT THIS SHOULD HAVE HAPPEN. *TR
DEFECTIVE CD PLAYERS. WILL NOT EJECT CD AND THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR ALMOST ALL CD PLAYERS IN THE 03-06 MODELS. I PERSONALLY KNOW 4 PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM, AND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF REPORTS IN FORUMS ON THE INTERNET. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 DIESEL. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER LEVEL WERE NO LONGER ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT HIS TAIL LIGHTS AND THE DOOR LOCKS WOULD NO LONGER FUNCTION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE, HE WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT GEAR HE WAS DRIVING IN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,010 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,060. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE BACK-UP LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO3500, WAS TRAVELING EASTBOUND WHEN HER LEFT REAR DUALLY WHEELS FELL OFF. THE WHEEL TRAVELED ACROSS THE HIGHWAY INTO THE WESTBOUND LANES WHEN IT WAS STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. BF ACCORDING TO THE POLICE REPORT, THE RIGHT REAR STUDS BROKE OFF. THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER VEHICLE SUSTAINED BRUISING TO HER WRIST. I ALSO HAVE A 2005 SILVERADO AN THE SPEEDOMETER IS STUCK AT 120 IT HAS GONE DOWN AS FAR AS 60 BUT WHEN YOU DRIVE IT PEGS OUT AND REMAINS THERE. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS JUST HAPPENED AROUND 82,000 NOW AT 86,000 AND 6,000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW MY SPEED BUT I AM LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE BEEN GIVEN A GPS TO DO THAT. I LOOKED AT GM WEBSITE BUT THEY SAY I AM OVER MILEAGE FOR REPAIR AND I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR THE REPAIRS MYSELF AN FEEL THIS SHOULD BE REMEDIED BY THE MANUFACTURER SINCE IT IS A WELL KNOW PROBLEM OF THEIRS AND THIS DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT. *TR
AT ABOUT 76,000 MILES MY 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO STARTED HAVING SPEEDOMETER ISSUES. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WAS WORKING FINE FOR ABOUT ANOTHER 7,000 MILES. AND NOW OVER 80,000 MILES IT IS STUCK AT 120 MPH. GM HAS RECALLED 2003 & 2004 MODELS WITH THIS SAME KNOWN ISSUE AND HAS USED THE SAME CLUSTERS FOR 2005, BUT DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH WHEN THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE. THE FAILURE CAUSED DAMAGES TO THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE QUARTER PANEL. AS WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET BLACK SMOKE STARTED TO COME OUT OF THE AIR CONDITIONING VENTS. THEN I NOTICED FLAMES AND MELTED PLASTIC COMING OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE GLOVE BOX AREA. WE PULLED OUR CHILD FROM THE BURNING TRUCK AND CALLED 911. FIRE TRUCKS WERE THERE IN LESS THAN 4 MINUTES BUT BY THAT TIME THE ENTIRE PASSENGER CAB WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND THERE WERE AT LEAST TWO SEPARATE EXPLOSIONS THAT BLEW OUT ALL THE WINDOWS, MY HUSBAND THINKS THAT THE AIRBAGS EXPLODED. THE TRUCK IS A COMPLETE LOSS AND WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE ESCAPED WITH ONLY MINOR INJURIES. WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,517 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 61,300.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BOTTLE WAS NOT LABELED IN REGARDS TO WEARING GOGGLES OR PROTECTION WHEN USING THE PRODUCT. HE REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 99E007000 (TIRES) BUT HAD NOT CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER IN REGARDS TO THE RECALL. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,000.

DRIVING ON I 95 NORTH BOUND IN VA AT EXIT 126 I HAD A MAJOR TIRE FAILURE WHICH RESULTED IN PROPERTY DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK. THE TREAD BECAME SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE AND CAUSED $4,500.00 DOLLARS IN DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK. THE TIRE WAS MADE BY COOPER TIRE FOR NTB TIRE CHAIN UNDER THE NAME MESA CT. IT WAS A 285/75/R16 IN SIZE AND THE DOT # IS 3DYUT3J0906. I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK AND TIRE TO NTB IN MCLEAN VA FOR THEM TO INSPECT, I WAS DEALING WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER HENRY. I ALSO CALLED COOPER TIRE AND NOTIFIED THEM ON THIS AND I SPOKE WITH DAVID. MY INSURANCE COMPANY IS REPAIRING MY VEHICLE BUT I WOULD LIKE TO GET A NEW SET OF TIRES FROM NTB OR COOPER BECAUSE I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TRUST THESE TIRES NO LONGER. I ALMOST ROLLED MY TRUCK WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND AM GLAD NOONE GOT HURT. *TR
