Power steering system has failed. Power steering pump where the hose is connected leaks out any power steering fluid left after I pour more in and turn the truck on. Issue has caused the rack and pinion steering system to leak from the left side, and cause a whining noise when I turn the truck left or right when making sharp turns or backing up. Dealership failed to look at the truck with a simple inspection.

I got into an accident with my 2005 chevy silverado by rear ending some one at a stop sign. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 5 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD UNEXPECTEDLY STOP WORKING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WAS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES TO GET IT TO WORK. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD ALSO STOP FUNCTIONING WHEN THE BRAKES EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED, BUT THE CONTACT DID NOT SPEAK WITH A LIVE REPRESENTATIVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 220,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HILL ABOUT 25 MPH ON A CITY STREET WHEN A WARNING NOTICE APPEARED " SERVICE STEERING SYSTEM" AND " SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM". ALMOST IMMEDIATELY I COULD NOT STEER OR BRAKE. I ALMOST HIT A PEDESTRIAN TRYING TO STEER AND STOP. I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO TURN A CORNER AND STOPPED. I SLOWLY DROVE TWO BLOCKS TO MY HOUSE AT ABOUT 5 MPH. I AM A STRONG MAN AND IF MY WIFE OR A LESS STRONG INDIVIDUAL HAD BEEN DRIVING, OR IF I HAD BEEN GOING MORE THAN THE 25 MPH OR IF I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT, I AM SURE I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AVOID HITTING THE PEDESTRIAN AND / OR GOING OFF THE ROAD AND WRECKING. THIS SEEMS LIKE A MAJOR ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE GMC REPAIR SHOP IN BEAVERTON, OREGON AWAITING DIAGNOSIS.

PITMAN ARM TO CENTER LINK BROKE DURING SLIGHT LEFT TURN A LOW SPEED LEAVING RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY. VEHICLE HAD NO STEERING AFTER EVENT. ALL ORIGINAL OEM EQUIPMENT WITH NO MODIFICATIONS. STEERING GEAR BOX HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN REPLACED YEARS EARLIER ALL OTHER COMPONENTS ORIGINAL.

VEHICLE WAS SOLD WHICH WAS BELIEVED TO BE AN ILLEGAL CALIFORNIA SAFETY INSPECTIONS HAD FOR THREE MONTHS DRIVESHAFT FLEW OFF OF VEHICLE A WEEK AFTER PURCHASING DEALER SHIP FIX BUT BUT A DRIVESHAFT THAT WAS TO SHORT FOR THE VEHICLE WHICH WAS THE REASON FOR THE INCIDENT SECOND INCIDENT CAUSE COLLISION INTO BRICK WALL BECAUSE VEHICLE LOST STEERING BELIEVED TO BE CAUSE BY SAFETY ISSUES DEALERSHIP RETIRED TO PASS OFF AS AN "AS IS " VEHICLE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY
MAKING LEFT TURN FROM LOOP 375 EXIT RAMP TO TURN LEFT ONTO MONTANA AVE. IN EL PASO TX. I WAS WAITING FOR LIGHT TO TURN LEFT. LIGHT TURNED GREEN I PROCEEDED TO MAKE LEFT TURN AND IN THE TURN THE STEERING CAME REALLY HARD TO TURN I WENT UP ON THE CURB AND ATTEMPTED TO STOP AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS ENOUGH BRAKE TO STOP. GOOD THING THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WHEN I APPROACHED THE INTERSECTION OR WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT OR CHIME. I CHECKED FLUIDS AND THEY WERE ALL FULL. WHEN I TOOK IT TO MISSION CHEVROLET AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPEN THEY GAVE ME THE IMPRESSION THEY ALREADY KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG LIKE THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE. TODAY I GOT A CALL FROM THEM AND CONFIRMED THAT IT IS THE POWER ASSIST FOR THE BRAKES AND POWER STEERING. WHY IF THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THE CONSUMER DOES NOT KNOW ABOUT IT? *TR
WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, I COULD FEEL A CLUNKING, AS THOUGH THE LINKAGE WAS VERY LOOSE. I TALKED WITH THE CHEVY DEALER, AND THEY WERE AWARE OF THE SYMPTOM AND IT WAS IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THEY SAID IT WAS COSMETIC, BUT DID NOT AFFECT SAFETY. THEY SAID IT WOULD COST ABOUT $275 TO FIX IT, BUT IT IS NOT CLEAR IF THAT WOULD BE JUST A TEMPORARY FIX. SOMETIMES, THIS SYMPTOM ALSO APPEARS WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD, BUT MOST OFTEN WHILE IN A TURN, PARTICULARLY AT LOWER SPEEDS. *TR
COMING HOME AFTER A NIGHT OF BOWLING WITH A TRUCK FULL OF KIDS. I COULD FEEL AND HEAR A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY BRAKES UNTIL I GOT BACK INTO TOWN. WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES AND MOVED THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH I COULD I KNEW IT WASN'T MY BRAKES. I TOOK THE FRONT TIRE OFF THE NEXT DAY AND I COULD WIGGLE THE WHEEL HUB BACK AND FORTH. VERY DANGEROUS. I FEEL LUCKY THAT NOBODY GOT HURT. THE ROAD I TRAVELED HOME WAS HWY 32 AND IT HAS ALOT OF CURVES. THIS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED. EVERY CHEVY THAT HAS THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE NOTIFIED. LINKAGE FROM STEERING WHEEL TO TIE RODS FELL OFF. VEHICLE WAS IN A PARKING LOT. LINKAGE CAME APART WHICH DISENGAGED THE SAFTEY AIR BAG. COST TO TOW TO THE SHOP $75.00 TO REPLACE THE BOLT AND SPRING FOR THE LINKAGE AND SAFTEY AIR BAG THE REPAIR IS $735.00 STAY AWAY FROM GM PRODUCTS. IT IS A GOOD THING THAT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY OR THE RESULTS WOULD HAVE BEEN HORRIBLE! *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V018000 (STEERING:GEAR BOX:SHAFT SECTOR) THAT THE CONTACT BELIEVED WAS RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
THE STEERING WAS CAUSING US PROBLEMS. WE TOOK THE TRUCK TO OUR LOCAL AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND THEY INFORMED US IT IS THE IDLER ARM. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS TOPIC IT SEEMS THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM REPORTED BEFORE. IT ALSO OCCURRED ON MY UNCLE'S 2005 CHEVROLET TRUCK. HOWEVER, DESPITE THESE REPORTS THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL. DEALER REPLACED AND WROTE THE "INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT TO BE BINDING." COST, $300.00. TRUCK NOT USED OFF-ROAD AND HALF THE MILES ARE TOWING A 5TH WHEEL TRAILER. DON'T KNOW IF THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT, BUT DOUBTFUL. I READ MANY OTHERS VIA THE NHTSA SHOW THIS PROBLEM TOO, YET NO RECALL ! SEEMS A SAFETY ISSUE TO ME. THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED 16 TSBS ON THE STEERING, THREE RECALLS ON THE STEERING, AND 27 TSBS ON THE SUSPENSION. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 23,000.
