2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 WITH 5.3L V8 MAKES TICKING NOISE WHEN COLD. EXHAUST SMELL IN PASSENGER CABIN. NOISE DECREASES AS ENGINE HITS NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE. AFTER A SERVICE CALL TO REPAIR. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FORWARD MOST AND REAR MOST EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS WERE BROKEN OFF INSIDE THE ENGINE BLOCK ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE ENGINE, THIS ALLOWS EXHAUST GAS TO ESCAPE WHEN COLD AND ACCOUNTS FOR EXHAUST SMELL IN THE CABIN. PER THE MECHANIC THIS IS VERY COMMON AND SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM. *TR
TL * THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING A FRONT END CRASH. THE CONTACT, THE PASSENGER, AND THE BACK SEAT PASSENGER WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE THERE WAS NO DIAGNOSTIC TEST PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TOWING TRAILER, WHILE PARKING TRAILER, BRAKE PEDAL GOT SPONGY, THEN WENT TO FLOOR, TOTAL BRAKE LOSS. RUSTED BRAKE LINE RUPTURED UNDER DRIVERS SEAT BY ABS MODULE, ALL BRAKE LINES WILL NEED REPLACEMENT. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD ALL OF THE BRAKE LININGS HAD RUSTED. MY BRAKES FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. FORTUNATELY I CONTROLLED THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO STOP, SAW THE LEAK AND WAS TOWED .A PRIVATE COMPANY REPLACED ALL LINES. I EMAILED MY CONCERN TO CHEVROLET, ASKED TO HAVE MY COMMENTS FORWARDED TO CEO-PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT. SUBSEQUENTLY HAD A PHONE CONVERSATION (866-790-5600) [XXX]WITH [XXX] COULD NOT SEND THIS INFORMATION TO CEO PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT. IF THE BRAKE LININGS FAIL YOU HAVE NO BRAKES. COMING UP TO TRAFFIC SIGNAL AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. BRAKE LINE RUSTED OUT. STOPPED BY SLAMMING IT INTO 1ST GEAR AND USING THE PARKING BRAKE. VERY DANGEROUS! *TR
BRAKE LINE HAS COMPLETELY DETERIORATED AND LEAKING AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. RECENTLY HAD TO REPLACE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS AS WELL. *TR
BRAKE LINES FAILED, CAUSING ME TO RUN OFF THE ROAD WHEN TRYING TO AVOID HITTING A DEER. HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE LINES DUE TO CORROSION ON MANY OF THEM. *TR
DURAMAX DIESEL TURBOCHARGER REPLACEMENT. SECOND IDENTICAL OCCURRENCE, SEE ODI NUMBER 10522941. WORK ORDER STATES "CUSTOMER STATES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THIS MORNING. ADVISE. DTC P2563=TURBOCHARGER BOOST CONTROL. SYSTEM TEST FOUND TURBO VANE STICKING IN TURBO. CONTROL SOLENOID AND POSITION SENSOR OPERATING. REPLACE TURBOCHARGER AND ALL NEEDED SEALS AND GASKETS. REPROGRAM ECM AS NEEDED. FILL COOLING SYSTEM." THIS SECOND P2563 TROUBLE CODE AND TURBOCHARGER REPLACEMENT, 28,342 MILES SINCE THE FIRST REPLACEMENT, COST ME $2,889.74. THERE SEEMS TO BE A TREND OF THIS SPECIFIC FAILURE. *TR
PULLING TRUCK OUT OF GARAGE THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. UPON EXAMINATION THE BRAKE LINE HAD BLOWN A HOLE THRU THE RUSTED BRAKE LINES. ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES THAT ARE NOT COATED ARE RUSTED AND INTEGRITY OF THE METAL IS POOR. HAD TO HAVE ALL BRAKE LINES REPLACED FOR A SUM OF $900.. *TR
THE BRAKES ON MY TRUCK TAKE FOREVER TO WORK. I HAVE REPLACED THE ABS SENSOR AND BEARING AND FUSE AND THE LIGHTS CONTINUE TO COME ON AFTER I DRIVE A MILE AFTER STARTING IT UP. THIS IS VERY SCARY. IF I NEEDED TO STOP SUDDENLY IT WOULD CAUSE A CRASH. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE DO A RECALL. FOUR BUBBLES ON THE SIDEWALL OF MY TIRE APPEARED - I TOOK THE TIRE TO A GOODYEAR DEALER AND HE CONCLUDED THAT THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE FROM THE BEGINNING WHEN I BOUGHT IT. IT HAD 10,000 MILES ON THE TIRE WITH ORIGINAL TIRE TREAD OF 7/32 - IT NOW HAS 6/32 TREAD. GOODYEAR GAVE ME A $80.00 DISCOUNT ON A NEW TIRE - I CALLED THEM AND ASKED FOR A 100% DISCOUNT SINCE THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE FROM THE BEGINNING. I HAVE THREE OTHER TIRES ON THE TRUCK ALL GOODYEAR TIRES AND IT APPEARS THEY COULD BE DOING THE SAME THING. I ALSO DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS RECALL ON GOODYEAR WRANGLER TIRES HAVING THE SAME ISSUES JUST NOT ON MY TIRE SINCE IT IS MUCH LARGER AND NOT THAT POPULAR. *TR
DRIVERS SEAT HEATER COMES ON ALL THE TIME BY IT SELF AND ON HIGH. YOU CAN SWITCH IT OFF AND IT KEEPS COMING BACK ON. VERY DISTRACTING AT HIGH SPEEDS TURNING IT OFF ALL THE TIME. IT GETS VERY HOT AND OUT OF CONTROL. MAYBE COULD CATCH FIRE?? I HAVE IT DISCONNECTED NOW BUT DOING THAT NONE OF THE SEAT CONTROLS WORK. TO WORK SEAT YOU MUST PLUG IT BACK IN TO OPERATE THE SEATS. CHECKED ONLINE AND MANY SEAT HEAT SWITCHES COME ON BY IT SELF ON MANY GMC CARS AND TRUCKS. *TR
ON APPROX. 28 APRIL 2013 AFTER A 200 MILE TRIP I WAS PARKING MY TRUCK WHEN THE BRAKE LINE BROKE. I THEN USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE TRUCK. AT THIS TIME I MADE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS TO GET US BACK HOME. ONCE THERE I RESPONDED TO LEN STOLER CHEVEROLET IN WESTMINSTER MD. WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I ASKED THEM IF THEY COULD BLEED THE BRAKES, BECAUSE I DID NOT THINK I GOT ALL THE AIR OUT OF LINES. AT THIS TIME I WAS WAITING IN THE WAITING ROOM WHEN A SERVICE ADVISOR CAME IN AND ASK ME TO GO INTO THE SHOP BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO SHOW ME SOMETHING. WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY TRUCK (WHICH WAS ON THE LIFT) THEY STATED THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINES WERE SO CORRODED THAT THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A PRICE OF $1610.80. I STATED THAT THE SO CALL METAL USED HAD TO BE DEFECTED TO ALLOW THE WHOLE SYSTEM OF LINES TO RUST TO THIS POINT IN ONLY SEVEN YEARS. SHE THEN REPLIED THAT IT WAS NOT CAUSE BY THE METAL USED, IT WAS THE NEW SALT THAT THE STATES USES NOW. WHEN THEY REPLACED THE OLD LINES WITH THE NEW,I ASK THE SERVICE ADVISOR IS THE METAL BRAKE LINES BEING INSTALLED , WERE THEY USING THE SAME KIND OF METAL AND SHE REPLIED, NO THEY ARE USING ZINK COATED LINES NOW. MY QUESTION DID ANY OTHER TRUCKS LIKE MINE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND WHY DID THEY USE A NEW METAL IF THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH ORIGINAL METAL. *TR
FAILED INSPECTION FOR CORRODED BRAKE LINES. *TR
ROTTEN BRAKE LINES. I LOOKED AT THE BRAKE LINES WHILE CHANGING MY OIL. MY TRUCK HAS 47K ON IT. I CALLED GM. THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAD TO BRING IT TO A DEALER. I DID. THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE BAD AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. $1500 ALSO THE TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES ARE LEAKING. I HAVE BEEN THROUGH ALMOST ALL OF THE BRAKE PROBLEMS LISTED ON THIS WEB CITE. ABS LIGHT COMES ON, TWICE, 2ND TIME I REPLACED THE LEFT HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY. THE 1ST TIME THE DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT ABS SENSORS. AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON, I REPLACED A BAD FRONT AIR BAG SENSOR, RIGHT SIDE. THIS TRUCK IS TURNING INTO A MONEY PIT!!!!! THIS NEW (ROTTEN LINES) ISSUE IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS WAS THE ABS ISSUE. GM NEEDS TO DO A FULL RECALL AND REPLACE THE BRAKE LINES BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR
TRANSMISSION JUST WENT WHEN DRIVING HOME FROM OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA. I HAD TO DRIVE IT IN FIRST GEAR ALL THE WAY HOME FROM SHAWNEE, OKLAHOMA TO ATOKA, OKLAHOMA. *TR

VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HAVE 4 NEW TIRES INSTALLED. AS PART OF THIS PROCESS THE VEHICLE WAS LIFTED OFF THE GROUND AND THE STEERING COMPONENTS AND SUSPENSION SYSTEM WAS CHECKED FOR WEAR. AS THIS PROCESS WAS TAKING PLACE ONE OF THE MECHANICS NOTICED THE RUSTED BRAKE LINES AND CALLED ME OVER TO SHOW HOW BAD THE LINES WERE RUSTED. *TR
VEHICLE UNDER CARRIAGE LOOKS MORE LIKE A 30 YEAR OLD VEHICLE. BRAKES LINES HAVE FAILED CAUSING EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE OR SWERVING OFF ROAD TO AVOID COLLISION. OIL COOLER LINED RUPTURED AND LEAKED OIL ON EXHAUST MANIFOLD, A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD, ESPECIALLY WHEN ALL THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS ROTTED AS WELL SO HOT EXHAUST GASES ARE NOT DIRECTED OUT THE EXHAUST, ALSO A CONCERN FOR POISONING OCCUPANTS WITH TOXIC EXHAUST GASES . POWER STEERING FITTINGS ROTTED CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING. GM IS USELESS, WHEN I CONTACTED THEM THEY SAID IT IS THE ENVIRONMENT. I ASKED THEM WHY A TOYOTA AND ACURA, BOTH 8 YEARS OLDER SHOWED NO SUCH FAILURES OR EVEN SIGNS OF RUST ON CRITICAL COMPONENTS. GM RESPONDED THAT THEY COULDN'T ANSWER THAT QUESTION. HMMM, I WONDER WHY. IN 39 YEARS OF DRIVING, IT IS THE MOST I EVER PAID FOR A VEHICLE, 48,000 DOLLARS, AND THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES ANY ASSISTANCE. THAT'S THE THANKS FOR BAILING THEM OUT. IT HAS ALSO HAD WIRES TO BLOWER MOTOR BURN, REAR BRAKE ROTORS ROTTED AWAY AT 22,000 MILES, GROUND WIRES UNDER HOOD HAVE ROTTED AND FALLEN OF... MORE POTENTIAL HAZARDS, A/C COMPRESSOR SEIZED A CAME APART. I COULD GO ON AND ON. THERE NEEDS TO BE A SERIOUS INVESTIGATION INTO GM AND.THE POOR QUALITY AND LACK OF CONCERN FOR THE SAFETY OF THE PUBLIC. IT IS BY FAR THE WORST VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED, EVER. *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND I ENTERED IT TO START IT. WHEN I APPLIED MY FOOT TO THE BRAKE PEDAL I HEARD A LOUD POP (LIKE A BALLOON POPPING) AND A RECOIL IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. COME TO FIND OUT, THE DIAPHRAGM IN THE BRAKE BOOSTER BROKE THUS LEAVING ME WITH VERY LITTLE BRAKES. I AM JUST GLAD I WAS THE ONE BEHIND THE WHEEL AND THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE IF THIS HAD HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING THROUGH TOWN. OR IF SOMEONE LIKE MY 18 YEAR OLD SON HAD BEEN DRIVING. AFTER SPEAKING WITH MULTIPLE MECHANICS, IT WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT THIS IS ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT "NEVER HAPPENS"...ESPECIALLY ON A 2006 WITH ONLY 63K MILES ON IT. WHEN I CALLED CHEVROLET THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD BE NOTED BUT THEY COULD NOT HELP COVER THE COST OF REPAIR AS IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. ALTHOUGH I DO KNOW IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY, I THOUGHT THEY MIGHT COVER IT AS IT IS NOT A WEAR AND TEAR ISSUE...IT IS A MECHANICAL DEFECT AND A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED AND I'M JUST HOPING IT DOES NOT OCCUR AGAIN. UNFORTUNATELY THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY AT ALL TO PREDICT IF AND WHEN THIS WILL EVER OCCUR ON ANY OTHER VEHICLE. I PARKED MY TRUCK IN A BANK PARKING LOT AFTER RUNNING ERRANDS. I WENT INTO THE BANK LOBBY, LOOKED BACK, AND NOTICED MY HEADLIGHTS FLASHING. I RETURNED TO THE TRUCK, THINKING I SET OFF MY PANIC ALARM, ONLY TO FIND SMOKE FILLING THE CABIN. AFTER THE SMOKE CLEARED, I TURNED THE IGNITION KEY TO AUX POWER AND NONE OF MY ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS WERE WORKING (E.G. WINDOWS, DOOR LOCKS, ONSTAR, RADIO). AFTER INSPECTION, THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP FOUND THE MAIN BODY WIRE HARNESS HAD MELTED THROUGH FROM HEAT. THE FINAL ANALYSIS IS THAT THERE IS A SHORT IN THE WIRE HARNESS THAT CAUSED THE ENTIRE HARNESS TO MELT. DAMAGE WAS LIMITED TO THE HARNESS AND CARPET BECAUSE THE SHORT IMMEDIATELY DRAINED THE BATTERY AND DID NOT ALLOW THE HARNESS TO HEAT UP TO A COMBUSTIBLE TEMPERATURE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,000. *TR

BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. A HOLE DEVELOPED IN A BRAKE LINE WHICH RESULTED IN NO BRAKES AT ALL. I HAD TO SPEND $1400 AT THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP TO HAVE ALL OF MY BRAKE LINES AND FRONT CALIPERS REPLACED. *TR
BRAKE LINE RUST THROUGH. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD HIT BRAKES WENT TO FLOOR. STILL HAD FRONT BRAKES AND WAS ABLE TO STOP. HAVING THE TRUCK TOWED TO HAVE LINES REPLACED. *TR
DRIVING MY 2006 SILVERADO 3500 HD WHEN THE CAR AHEAD DECIDED ON A SUDDEN LEFT TURN. WENT TO APPLY MY BRAKES AND HAD TO STAND ON THE PEDAL WHILE SWERVING, NARROWLY MISSING THE COMPACT CAR. AFTER EVALUATION AT THE GM CERTIFIED DEALERSHIP THAT WE USE FOR INSPECTION AND REPAIR ON ALL 8 OF OUR GM BUSINESS AND PERSONAL VEHICLES, WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE EROSION/RUSTING WAS A COMMON DEFECT IN THE BRAKE LINES USED. CONTACTED GM AND THEY OFFERED TO PAY HALF OF THE $1400.00 BILL AND STATED THAT THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL FOR THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE ON THE ROAD! *TR

AT THE WORST POSSIBLE TIME WITH ICY ROADS AND SNOW. I WAS ON MY DRIVEWAY TRYING TO GET TO THE TOP OFF IT WHEN I LOST TRACTION. I STOPPED AND APPLIED THE BRAKES. I STARTED TO BACK DOWN THE DRIVE WHEN THE PEDDLE FELL TO THE FLOOR CAUSING THE TRUCK TO GO VIOLENTLY OUT OF CONTROL AND CRASH DOWN OVER AN EMBANKMENT. THERE WAS NO WARNING, JUST TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKES BOTH FRONT AND REAR. MECHANIC SAYS THE LINES BLEW APART FROM RUST. *TR
MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR FLUID LEVEL DROPPED FROM FULL TO ACTIVATION OF BRAKE SERVICE LIGHT. INVESTIGATION OF THE CAUSE LED TO THE DISCOVERY A LEAK IN THE BRAKE LINE FROM THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE ACTUATOR TO THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE CALIPER. ALL THE BRAKE LINES APPEAR TO BE EXTENSIVELY CORRODED. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO FLOOR. AFTER INSPECTION METAL BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTED AND HAS HOLE IN LINE RESULTING IN LOSS OF FLUID. *TR
I WAS FOLLOWING MY GIRLFRIEND IN MY TRUCK & WHEN COMING TO A SLOW STOP AT LESS THAN 5MPH, MY TRUCKS ABS STARTED TO ACTIVATE ON DRY ROAD CONDITIONS CAUSING ME TO BUMP INTO HER CAR! NO REAL DAMAGE OCCURRED TO EITHER OF OUR VEHICLES BUT AFTER RESEARCHING THIS KNOWN GM PROBLEM WITH THEIR ABS SYSTEMS AND THEIR WHEEL SENSORS, IT'S OBVIOUS THAT GM KNOWS OF THESE ISSUES FOR YEARS IN THEIR TRUCKS!! I'VE TAKEN MY TRUCK INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW IN 2006 AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS MY PROBLEM TO GET IT FIXED!! I REPLACED THE DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL BEARING AFTER IT FAILED IN 2010 WITH A GM WHEEL BEARING AND THEIR SERVICE TECH TOLD ME THAT GM WOULD REPLACE IT FOR FREE BUT YET THEY HOLD NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ORIGINAL GM WHEEL BEARINGS!! THIS IS A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN TO ALL GM TRUCK OWNERS! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND TO DECELERATION ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S HOME AND UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED. AS I APPROACHED A STOP SIGN, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT SOFT AND THEN TO THE FLOOR. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY A BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING AND A BRAKE LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I GOT THE VEHICLE STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR. IT WAS EMPTY. IT HAD BEEN SNOWING THAT DAY AND I NOTICED A PUDDLE OF FLUID HAD FORMED IN THE FRESH SNOW UNDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, JUST INBOARD AND AFT OF THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL. WHEN I CRAWLED UNDERNEATH AND LOOKED I FOUND WHAT APPEARS TO BE SEVERELY ROTTED BRAKE LINES. I HAVE NEVER HAD A SOLID BRAKE LINE FAIL ON ME BEFORE AND WAS QUITE SHOCKED AT HOW PROGRESSED THE CORROSION WAS. I TAKE CARE OF MY TRUCK AND IT GETS WASHED AND SERVICED REGULARLY. WITH THAT IT GETS USED AS A TRUCK AS WELL. I FEEL THAT THE CORROSION WAS EXCESSIVE AND PERHAPS IS THE RESULT OF A MATERIAL FLAW/CHEAP MATERIALS USED. AFTER READING AN ARTICLE ABOUT A PARAPLEGIC WOMAN WHO GOT SEVERELY BURNED BY HER FRIENDS SUBURBAN'S HEATED SEATS, I FIND IT ESSENTIAL TO REPORT THAT I'VE ALWAYS FOUND THAT MY DRIVERS HEATED SEAT SOMETIMES GET EXTREMELY HOT. FORTUNATELY, I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO TURN THEM OFF BEFORE ANY INJURIES. THE WOMAN REPORTED NOT KNOWING HOW HER HEATED SEAT GOT TURNED ON. IF HER FRIENDS VEHICLE IS LIKE MINE, AN MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE COMPLAINED ON MULTIPLE OPEN FORUM WEBSITES, THE HEATED SEATS IN MANY OF CHEVROLET'S TRUCKS AND SUVS ARE KNOWN TO TURN ON THEIR OWN. I HAVE HAD TO UNPLUG MY SEATS DUE TO THE HEATER TURNING ON ERRATICALLY AND CYCLING THROUGH THE 3 HEAT LEVELS ON THEIR OWN. IT HAS BEEN REPORTED ON MULTIPLE WEBSITES THAT PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED TO GM ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND PEOPLE WHOSE VEHICLE WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY HAVE BEEN FORCED TO PURCHASE A VERY EXPENSIVE DOOR SWITCH ASSEMBLY. ALTHOUGH NOT A SAFETY ISSUE TO ME, I CAN SEE HOW THIS ERRATIC BEHAVIOR OF THE HEATED SEATS AND THE POTENTIAL FOR EXTREMELY HIGH TEMPERATURES COULD BE A DANGER TO SOMEBODY WITHOUT ALL THE SENSATIONS IN THEIR LOWER HALF. WHILE DRIVING 2006 CHEVY SILVERADO PICK UP TRUCK, MY WIFE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN AND TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. WHEN SHE PRESSED ON BRAKES TO SLOW VEHICLE, PEDAL FELL TO FLOOR AND BRAKES WERE UNRESPONSIVE. MECHANIC LATER INFORMED ME THAT BRAKE LINE FOR FRONT BRAKES WAS RUSTED THROUGH AND BRAKES FAILED WHEN SYSTEM PRESSURE FROM APPLYING BRAKES BURST THE RUSTED LINE. HE SAID MY WIFE WAS LUCKY SHE DIDN'T CRASH OR WORSE. HE ADVISED ME THAT ENTIRE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS VERY RUSTED AND OTHER PARTS WERE SO RUSTED THAT IN ORDER TO BLEED AIR FROM BRAKE SYSTEM, THEY HAD TO REPLACE RUSTED CALIPERS. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE AND BASED ON MY REVIEW OF OTHER DRIVERS' COMPLAINTS AND INTERNET FORUMS, IT APPEARS CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE IS A WIDESPREAD AND PERVASIVE PROBLEM FOR GM SILVERADO VEHICLES. LEFT MY DRIVEWAY AT 5AM TO GO TO WORK. AT THE END OF THE BLOCK IS A STOP SIGN. APPLIED MY BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. COULD NOT STOP AND WENT THRU THE STOP SIGN. THERE WAS NOT LIGHTS OR WARNING CONCERNING THE BRAKES. AT FURTHER INSPECTION I SAW THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTED THRU. THE ABS WOULD COME ON AT NORMAL OR LOW SPEEDS. STOPPING AT THE END OF DRIVEWAY, OR GOING THROUGH TOWN AT 35 MILES AN HOUR, STOPPING AT RED LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS. AND THE NOISE GOT LOUDER AND LOUDER. OUR MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT HE HAD SEEN THIS IN SEVERAL SILVERADO PICK UPS. *TR
FOR THE THIRD TIME IN ONE YEAR THE BRAKE LINES POPPED A HOLE AND IT WAS A TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. THE TRUCK HAD TO BE TOWED FOR REPAIR. *TR
2006 SILVERADO 1500 IN OCTOBER 2012, AS I APPROACHED A STOP LIGHT, MY BRAKE PEDAL LOST PRESSURE AND WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT AND STOP BY PUMPING THE PEDAL AND USING THE PARKING BRAKE. THE CAUSE WAS A RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINE, WHICH I PAID THE SHOP TO REPLACE. IN FEBRUARY 2013, I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE IN MY DRIVEWAY AND THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN LOST PRESSURE AND WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO A MECHANIC AND UPON INSPECTION LEARNED THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED OUT INCLUDING AT THE ABS MODULE CONNECTION POINT. THE ONLY REPAIR OPTION IS A $2000 JOB TO REMOVE THE BODY FROM THE TRUCK TO REPLACE EVERY SINGLE BRAKE LINE. THROUGH INTERNET SEARCHES AND BY MY MECHANIC'S EXPERIENCE, THIS IS CLEARLY A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT GM SHOULD BE RECALLING SILVERADOS FOR. *TR

THE MODULE ON THE FRONT BUMPER HAS BECOME DEFECTED AND THEREFORE THE AIR BAGS WILL NOT GO OFF DURING A COLLISION. *TR

THE BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE FAIL AT LOW SPEEDS (APPROX. 5 MPH). THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR THIS VEHICLE. CHEVY HAS ISSUED A TECHNICAL BULLETIN ON THIS PROBLEM (LOW SPEED ABS ACTIVATION, BULLETIN #03-05-25-007C). I HAD THIS PROBLEM REPAIRED IN OCTOBER 2010. NOW THE SAME PROBLEM IS OCCURRING AGAIN, ROUGHLY 10,000 MILES LATER. INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IS READILY AVAILABLE ONLINE. MANY SILVERADO OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT IT. I WAS DRIVING TO MY HOUSE OVER A BRIDGE, WITH A LOAD OF WOOD AND LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE DUE TO NO BRAKES. I QUICKLY PUT THE TRUCK IN LOWER GEAR AND PRESS ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE SKIDDING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS NERVOUS AS I WAS TRAVELING ON A ROAD AND ONTO A BRIDGE. I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THIS ON A 2006 TRUCK , ONLY 6 YEARS OLD. MOST OF THE LINES ON THE RAIL IN THE PLASTIC CLIPS WERE RUSTED. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR INCIDENT IF I WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. *TR

MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHO INDICATED THAT ALL FOUR BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED, LEAKING BRAKE FLUID, AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS REPAIR COST ME $948.96. MY MECHANIC ALSO TOLD ME THAT OTHER PORTIONS OF THE TRUCK'S UNDERCARRIAGE WERE SEVERELY CORRODED AND THE FUEL LINES WERE ALSO IN JEOPARDY OF FAILING IN THE NEAR FUTURE DUE TO CORROSION. PREVIOUSLY, I HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS AT 19,027 MILES AND AGAIN AT 26,058 MILES DUE TO UNTIMELY CORROSION. I DO NOT LIVE NEAR SALTWATER OR ANY OTHER BODY OF WATER AND DO NOT USE THE VEHICLE FOR WORK. IT IS NOT EXPOSED TO CORROSIVE MATERIALS. *TR
