TRANSMISSION SHIFTED INTO 2ND GEAR WHILE TRAVELING 70MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY. WILL NO LONGER SHIFT PAST 2ND GEAR AND SHIFTS HARD. *TR
THIS PROBLEM PERTAINS TO A 2007 CHEVY SILVERADO. THE BLOWER MOTORSHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I SAW SMOKE COME OUT FROM UNDER THE DASHBOARD BY THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE CONNECTOR THAT WAS ATTACHED TO THE RESISTOR FOR THE BLOWER MOTOR WAS MELTING DUE TO EXTREME HEAT. THE BLACK WIRE WAS GLOWING BRIGHT RED AND WAS MELTING THE PLASTIC ON THE CONNECTOR. AFTER A PHONE CALL TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED, I FOUND OUT THAT CHEVY ALREADY NEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THAT THEY HAD SEEN IT MANY TIMES. THE PARTS TO REPAIR IT WERE IN STOCK, THEY WERE PURCHASED AND REPLACED. THE FAN AND A/C ARE NOW WORKING. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE AND I HAVE TO PAY EACH TIME. THIS KNOWN PROBLEM SHOULD REQUIRE GM TO PAY FOR THE PROBLEM. *TR
2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. CONSUMER STATES SPARE TIRE FELL OUT AND FLEW 20 FEET IN THE AIR *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED UPON RETRIEVING THE TIRE, HE DISCOVERED THAT THE MOUNTING BRACKET HAD SEVERED, WHICH CAUSED THE TIRE TO FALL OFF. THE CONSUMER SET UP AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED. THE OFFICIAL DIAGNOSES WAS THAT THE SPARE TIRE WAS INSTALLED BACKWARDS THEREFORE CAUSING THE MOUNT TO SEVER. THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAD NOT TOUCHED THE SPARE TIRE SINCE HE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. *JB
MY SON WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN TEXAS WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND THE CAR STOPPED RUNNING. HE LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND COULD BARELY GET OFF THE ROAD IN TIME. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE NEAREST TOWN IN GAINESVILLE. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THE SENDING UNIT FAILED AND IN TURN CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE FUEL PUMP THAT MADE IT INOPERABLE. MY CONCERN IS THAT THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT OR ANY KIND OF INDICATION THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS ABOUT TO OCCUR. THERE WAS NO WAY TO PREVENT THIS. THE FUEL LEVEL READ THAT THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN 1/4 TO 1/2 TANK OF GAS BUT THE MECHANIC MEASURED 1/8 - 1/4. I'M NOT SURE IF THE GAS LEVEL ATTRIBUTED TO THE SHUT DOWN OR NOT. THAT IS SOMETHING THAT I'M SURE WILL BE FACTORED IN TO YOUR INVESTIGATION. I FEEL LIKE THIS WAS A DEFINITE OPPORTUNITY FOR ME TO SPEAK UP AND TAKE ACTION. MY SON WAS SPARED FROM INJURY OR DEATH AND THERE NEEDS TO BE A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM TO AVOID THESE IRREVERSIBLE CONSEQUENCES. WHETHER IT BE AN INDICATOR LIGHT OR BETTER YET REDESIGN OF THE SYSTEMS SO THAT THEY CANNOT SHUT DOWN THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY. REMEMBER HE WAS DRIVING 60 MILES AND HOUR ON AN EXTREMELY BUSY HIGHWAY, THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN VERY GRIM, ESPECIALLY HAD IT OCCURRED AT NIGHT. I MAY HAVE BEEN PLANNING A FUNERAL INSTEAD NOTIFYING PEOPLE HOW TO AVOID ONE. PLEASE TAKE THIS AS SERIOUSLY AS I HAVE AND TAKE ACTION TO ELIMINATE THE POTENTIAL DAMAGING EFFECTS OF THIS TYPE OF FAILURE. I HAVE DOCUMENTATION OF SHOP RECORDS ETC. 2007 NEW BODY STYLE CHEVY SILVERADO JERKS / BANGS WHILE STOPPED AS IF I WAS REAR ENDED. THIS HAS HAPPENED EVER SINCE THE TRUCK WAS NEW. CURRENTLY HAS 30,000 MILES. THE DEALER OF COURSE COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE TRAVELING AT 75 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW DOWN. THE CONTACT HAD TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND COAST TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING INSPECTED AT THE DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 60,000.
EVERY 2500 MILE AFTER A OIL CHANGE I GET A LOW OIL ENGINE LIGHT AND HAVE TO ADD A QUART IN A HALF OF OIL TO TOP IT OFF AGAIN. AFTER DOING GM'S OIL CONSUMPTION TEST THREE TIMES GM TELLS ME THAT THE DEALER THAT I WAS BRING MY TRUCK TO FOR THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST STATED THAT I WAS DRIVE MY TRUCK TO HARD ARE I WAS PULLING SOMETHING. *TR
DRIVER SEAT BELT LATCH IS BROKEN. PLASTIC SLIDE IN LATCH IS STUCK IN BOTTOM OF LATCH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS CONSUMING EXCESSIVE OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING TO STANDARD AND THAT IT WAS NORMAL FOR A VEHICLE TO BURN OIL BETWEEN MAINTENANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000. UPDATED 09/25/13*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER STATED THE IS A MALFUNCTION WITH THE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE MANUFACTURER DENIES ANY MALFUNCTIONS. THE CONSUMER HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN 6 MONTHS WORTH OF OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THE CONSUMER KNOWS OF FIVE (5) OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. *JS
DASH BOARD CRACKING OVER INSTRUMENT PANEL AND BESIDE AIRBAG
AT SLOW SPEED THE POWER STEERING FAILS. THIS FAILURE IS SPORADIC, BUT DOES HAPPEN OFTEN. THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMES AS HARD TO TURN AS WHEN THE ENGINE IS OFF WITH NO POWER BOOST AT ALL. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS THE ONLY OPTION IS TO STOP ABRUPTLY. CHEVROLET RECENTLY ISSUED A RECALL FOR REPAIR ON SOME CAR MODELS FOR THE SAME COMPLAINT, HOWEVER MY TRUCK WAS NOT INCLUDED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD CONTINUOUSLY FAIL WITHOUT WARNING. HE LOCATED A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V240000-ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) BUT WAS UNABLE TO CONFIRM IF HIS VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 72,000.
WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN, CERTAIN ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WILL COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. THE COMPONENTS CONSISTS OF THE DOOR LOCK, GPS, RADIO, WINDOWS, AIR CONTROLS, ALL DASH GAUGES, ETC. IN ADDITION, SEVERAL DIFFERENT SERVICE WARNINGS WILL START FLASHING INCLUDING WHICH WILL INCLUDE "SERVICE AIR BAG", "SERVICE TIRE MONITOR, "SERVICE ENGINE", ETC. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE, ONCE AT 50,000 MILES AND JUST TODAY AT 56,000. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS BECAUSE OF A COMPUTER LOCATED UNDER THE CARPET BENEATH THE DRIVER SEAT THAT WAS GETTING MOISTURE IN IT. THEY CUT A SLIT IN THE CARPET TO LET IT "AIR OUT" AND CHARGED ME $350.00. I LATER FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS A RECALL ISSUE. BUT EVEN WITH THE CARPET CUTTING 'FIX', IT APPEARS TO STILL BE HAPPENING. *TR
ON MY 2007 SILVERADO I AM CONSTANTLY HAVING TO TAKE IT IN TO GET SERVICED FOR TRACTION CONTROL AND SERVICE STABILITRAK. MY ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT LIFTERS ARE ALSO NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THIS HAPPENS WHEN I AM MAKING TURNS. THE VEHICLE WILL LOSE CONTROL AND IT FEELS VERY DANGEROUS.MY BRAKES ARE CONSTANTLY BEING REPLACED AND I FEEL LIKE THERE IS SOME MAJOR ISSUES WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BUILT.
WATER COMES INTO VEHICLE THROUGH THIRD STOP LIGHT AND CAUSES ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WHICH MAKES SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT TO TURN AND THIS CAUSES VEHICLE TO SHUT DOWN MY CONCERN IS AIR BAG FAILURE TO DEPLOY OR NOT TO DEPLOY WHEN NEEDED. *TR
THERE ARE NO PREDICTABLE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THIS HAPPENING. THE WIPERS WILL NOT COME ON AT ALL. THIS WILL LAST FROM A FEW HOURS TO A FEW DAYS. WASHERS WILL WORK. SUSPECT CONTROLLER BOARD IS DEFECTIVE. PROBLEM IS SO SPORADIC THAT I'VE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET IT TO A DEALER IN TIME TO SHOW IT TO THEM BEFORE THE PROBLEM FIXED ITSELF. HAS HAPPENED 4 OR 5 TIMES IN LAST 2 YEARS. *TR
THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH MY '07 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 Z71 4DR PICK-UP. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN EATING IT'S OWN OIL. IT ALSO HAD TRANSMISSION LEAK DUE TO DEFECTIVE PART CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOOSE OIL FOR NO REASON AND THERE IS NO GM PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE AND AFTER INVESTING ALOT OF MONEY AND TAKING CARE OF VEHICLE MAINTENANCE PROPERLY, I AM TRULY UPSET AND THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. *TR
2007 CHEVORLET SILVERADO 1500 2WD V8 4.8L, ENGINE FIRE. FIRE DEPARTMENT & INSURANCE COMPANY BOTH DO NOT BELIEVE THERE WAS FRAUD OR ARSON. TOTAL LOSS. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED OUTSIDE OF MY RESIDENCE ON THE RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY AT ABOUT 3:50A.M. WE HEARD A BLOW WHICH WAS THE TIRE IN THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE. WE CALLED POLICE PLUS FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE ENGINE FRONT PART OF TRUCK PLUS THE 2 TIRE'S IN FRONT AND ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE HOOD STILL ON, AND THE WINDOWS DID NOT BREAK. THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE GOOD JUST WET AFTER THE FACT. FIRE REPORT SAYS AREA OF FIRE ORIGIN WAS THE ENGINE AREA, RUNNING GEAR, WHEEL AREA. ITEM FIRST IGNITED WAS THE PIPE, DUCT, CONDUIT & HOSE COVERING. IT WAS ABOUT 2:30A.M. SAME DAY WE GOT HOME. IT HAD NOT BEEN 2 HOURS THAT WE DROVE THE VEHICLE. IT WAS PARKED AND THE IGNITION OFF WHEN THIS FIRE STARTED. MY DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR MUST HAVE UNLOCKED AND THE BACK DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS STAYED LOCKED BECAUSE WHEN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PUT OUT FIRE THE DOORS WERE THAT WAY. I HAVE A 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER THAT RIDES IN THE BACK SEAT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAID THE FIRE STARTED DRIVERS SIDE/ENGINE. THIS IS A VERY TERRIFYING TIME. I'M SCARED TO EVEN PURCHASE A TRUCK ANYMORE. WE COULD HAVE BEEN IN THE VEHICLE, MY HUSBAND AND I PLUS OUR DAUGHTER. I USED TO DRIVE MY TRUCK WITH THE THOUGHT THAT I WAS SAFE IN IT FOR THE SIZE OF IT AND THAT IT WAS A CHEVY, BUT NOW I CAN'T EVEN HAVE THAT THOUGHT CROSS MY MIND. YOUR NOT SAFE ANYWHERE, NOT EVEN IN YOUR VEHICLE BECAUSE NOT ONLY IF THERE IS A CAR WRECK, A DRUNL DRIVER HITS YOU, SOMEONE FAILED TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND HIT YOU, NOW IF YOUR IGNITION IS IN THE OFF POSITION YOUR TRUCK CAN CATCH ON FIRE, AT YOUR RESIDENCE, PARKED IN A GARAGE, PARKED BESIDE OTHER VEHICLES, AND WHO KNOWS THE FIRE COULD HAVE STARTED AS I AND MY FAMILY WERE IN IT TOO. YOUR NOT SAFE. INSURANCE CO PAYS THE VALUE AND BOOK CLOSED. I HAVE NO VEHICLE TO SHOW FOR THOSE 3 YEARS. NO FRAUD NO ARSON AND NO VEHICLE. AND NOTHING DONE. IT'S NOT RIGHT. *TR
CHEVY SILVERADO 2007, THE TRANSMISSION JERKS/SHIFTS OUT OF GEAR WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT. AS IF SOMEONE HAS BUMPED YOU FROM BEHIND. IT TAKES SEVERAL SECONDS (5-20) FOR IT TO OCCUR. *JB
2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO HEATED SIDE MIRRORS LOOKED AS IF THEY HAD OVER HEATED AND BURNED. BUBBLES, SINGE LOOKING AND DISCLORATION HAD OCCURRED ON THE OUTER CASE OF THE MIRRORS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH MIRRORS AS A GOODWILL GESTURE. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RESURFACED A YEAR LATER ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE MIRROR. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT MIRROR. THE DEALER FELT AS THOUGH THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE CAR WASH HAVING A HEATING SYSTEM THAT WAS PERHAPS TOO HOT. *JB
THE DASHBOARD IN MY VEHICLE HAS CRACKED, RIGHT BEHIND THE AIRBAG. IF THE AIRBAG WERE TO DEPLOY IT IS VERY LIKELY THAT A PIECE OF THE BROKEN DASHBOARD COULD BECOME A PROJECTILE INSIDE THE VEHICLE CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY TO THE OCCUPANTS. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH GM VEHICLES CONTAINING THIS DASHBOARD, INCLUDING THE GMC SIERRA, GMC YUKON, CHEVROLET AVALANCHE, CHEVROLET TAHOE, AND CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. TAKATA RECALL 2010 - GM STATUS FOR THIS 'RECALL' - RECALL INCOMPLETE, REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE. IT'S GOING ON 8 YEARS NOW AND STILL NO REMEDY BUT TAKATA ACKNOWLEDGES DEFECT / RECALL. WHEN WILL MY AIRBAGS BE ABLE TO BE FIXED BY GM / TAKATA?
CRACKED DASH BY AIR BAG DOOR . STATIONARY
HEATER BLOWER FAN CONTROL RELAY PLUG LOCATED UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE DASH BOARD. WHEN FAN IS ON HIGH SETTING THE PLUG AND WIRES OVERHEAT AND START TO BURN/MELT AND FAN RELAY CLICKS OFF. I INSPECTED THE PLUG AND HAVE SEEN MELTED/BARE WIRES ALSO BURNT PLASTIC ON THE PLUG. AFTER DOING SOME ONLINE RESEARCH I NOTICED A LOT OF CHEVY OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH OTHER CHEVY MODELS AND YEARS AND THIS HAS LED TO MANY VEHICLE FIRES. I HAVE ALSO LEARNED THAT CHEVY HAD A SAFETY BULLETIN OUT ON THIS FOR THE DEALERS BUT THEY HAVE FAILED TO INFORM THE CAR AND TRUCK OWNERS I HAVE CONTACTED SEVERAL CHEVY DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENTS WHO ARE VERY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED BY CHEVROLET AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY AROUND $90.00 JUST FOR A DIAGNOSES INSPECTION AND ADDITIONAL MONEY FOR THE REPAIR.
2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 - DRIVER SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE ALUMINUM CASTING BROKE DURING USE. IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. COULD BE FATAL IN THE EVENT OF A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHIFTED GEARS AS HE DROVE UP A HILL AND THEN BEGAN TO SUDDENLY ACCELERATE. HE STATED THAT IT TOOK OFF "LIKE A JET". HE KICKED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL A FEW TIMES AND THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SETTLE TO NORMAL SPEEDS. THE FAILURE HAS NOT RECURRED. THE DEALERS RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE CONTACT WITHOUT A DIAGNOSIS OR AN INVOICE. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 18,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 17,700. UPDATED 02/03/10 *BF UPDATED 02/11/10. *JB
2007 Z71 CHEVROLET HAD TO HAVE THE STEERING REPAIRED. COST $350.00. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 AT ABOUT 40 MPH WHEN I FELT A LARGE BUMP. I LOOKED IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR AND SAW SOMETHING FLYING IN THE AIR ABOUT 20 FEET OFF THE GROUND BEHIND ME. WHEN I STARTED TO PULL OVER, IT BOUNCED SEVERAL TIMES IN ABOUT 20' HIGH BOUNDS AND STARTED ROLLING AT ME WITH SIGNIFICANT VELOCITY. THAT'S WHEN I REALIZED THAT IT WAS MY SPARE TIRE THAT FELL OFF FROM UNDERNEATH MY TRUCK. I BARELY MOVED OUT OF THE WAY OF THE ROLLING TIRE BEFORE IT HIT ME. IT CONTINUED ROLLING THROUGH A BUSY INTERSECTION NEARLY HITTING THREE CARS AND A PEDESTRIAN. IT BOUNCED OFF A BRICK WALL AND CAME BACK THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND FINALLY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE. I RETRIEVED THE TIRE AND FOUND THAT THE ENTIRE HOIST AND TIRE ASSEMBLY IS ONLY SECURED WITH ONE SMALL BOLT. THE BOLT WAS STILL IN THE CHASSIS, BUT THE BRACKET IT WAS HOLDING WAS LITERALLY RIPPED AWAY FROM THE BOLT. I AM AN ENGINEER AND AFTER DOING A FEW ROUGH CALCULATIONS, I FOUND THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW THAT WILL RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATHS, IF IT HASN'T ALREADY. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE MANUFACTURER CORRECT THIS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. *TR
2007 CHEVY SILVERADO Z71 2LT PACKAGE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FROM APPROXIMATELY 4:15 A.M. UNTIL AROUND 11 A.M. NOVEMBER 27, 2009 WHEN IT WAS PARKED AT 2500 YELLOWSTONE STREET, WICHITA, KS 67215. AT APPROXIMATELY 4:13 A.M NOVEMBER 28, 2009 THE WICHITA FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS TO A FIRE THAT HAS CONSUMED THE ENGINE AND CAB COMPARTMENT. GREGG MYRTLE, FIRE CAPTAIN, FIREHOUSE 17, WICHITA FIRE DEPARTMENT, 316-337-9417, INDICATED THE FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND SPREAD TO THE CAB. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PURCHASED PRE-OWNED IN 2009. WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR PANEL BEGAN SMOKING. ONCE THE SMOKING CEASED, HE NOTICED THAT ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS ON THE DOOR FAILED, INCLUDING THE POWER WINDOWS, MIRROR ADJUSTER AND POWER LOCKS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND WOULD NOT ASSUME LIABILITY FOR ANY OF THE REPAIRS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNDER 65,000.
I OWN 2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 CREW CAB WORK TRUCK (NEW BODY STYLE) WHICH I PURCHASED NEW IN SEPT. 2007. ON APPROXIMATELY NOVEMBER 2, 2009 WHILE ENTERING MY VEHICLE, THE PLASTIC LUMBAR SUPPORT BROKE AS I WAS SITTING DOWN IN THE DRIVER SEAT. THUS FORCING MY BODY WEIGHT TO PUSH THE FOAM AND PLASTIC COVER OUT OF THE BACK PORTION OF THE SEAT FRAME. I THEN REMOVED THE REMAINING ATTACHED SEAT BACK TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM. I FOUND THAT THERE ARE FOUR THIN, PIVOTING PLASTIC ARMS THAT FLEX WHEN THE MANUAL KNOB IS TURNED FOR ADJUSTMENT. THESE ARMS ARE HOLDING THE PLASTIC LUMBAR SUPPORT IN PLACE ALONG WITH FOUR THIN ALUMINUM RODS. IN THE EVENT OF A REAR END IMPACT, THIS DEFECT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS SPINAL AND/OR NECK INJURY. PLEASE NOTE, THAT I AM A STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER AND THAT I FEEL THIS SITUATION BE THOROUGHLY INVESTIGATED. I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO ON A HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH DURING A LIGHT RAIN SHOWER WHEN THERE WAS A LOUD BANG SOUND SIMILAR TO A SHOT GUN BLAST AND THE SEATBELT PRE-TENSIONERS PULLED MYSELF AND MY PASSENGER HARD BACK INTO THE SEATS. THE HAZARD LIGHTS BEGAN FLASHING IMMEDIATELY AND THE AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON. CONTACTED ONSTAR TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC AND THEY SHOWED THERE WAS A COLLISION DETECTED WHICH FIRED THE SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONERS. THERE WAS NO COLLISION, NOT EVEN A BUMP IN THE ROAD THAT CAUSED THIS. THIS WAS A VERY STARTLING EVENT THAT EASILY COULD HAVE CAUSED A PANIC REACTION AND AN ACCIDENT. THERE WAS A SMELL OF SPENT GUNPOWDER IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE AFTER THIS OCCURRED. WE UNLATCHED OUR SEAT BELTS TO RELIEVE THE PRESSURE AGAINST OUR BODIES AND NOTICED THEY WOULD NOT RETRACT OR PULL BACK OUT. THEY ARE NOW USELESS. THE INJURY WAS A BRUISE TO MY LEFT COLLAR BONE WHERE THE SEATBELT RETRACTED. THE VEHICLE IS NOW NOT SAFE TO DRIVE SINCE THE SEAT BELTS DON'T WORK AND FOR FEAR OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYING. *TR
DRIVING DOWN ROAD AND THOUGHT DRIVER SIDE TIRE HAD BLOWN . WAS ABLE TO STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AROUND A BEND BUT NOT CONTROL THE TRUCK . GOT OUT AND THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE ,RIM AND BRAKE ROTOR WERE RIPPED AWAY FROM THE HUB. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2007 SILVERADO'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SEEMS TO TOTALLY SHUTDOWN JUST FOR AN INSTANT. THIS LAST TIME ON 10/15/09, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHUTDOWN, THEN CAME BACK ON. I PARKED IT SHORTLY AFTER AND DISCOVERED MY ELECTRIC LOCKS DIDN'T WORK SO I TRIED STARING IT, BUT IT WAS DEAD. HAD TO HAVE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER COME JUMP IT AND I TOOK IT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP TO INVESTIGATE. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE WAY THERE. TURN ON THE RADIO, WHICH IS IN A NAVIGATION SYSTEM. CRACKLING SOUNDS BEGIN TO BE HEARD THROUGH THE BOSE SPEAKERS AFTER A FEW MINUTES AND CONTINUE EVEN AFTER RADIO IS TURNED OFF. SOUND DOES NOT STOP UNTIL KEY IS IN THE OFF POSITION AND I EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM STARTED INFREQUENTLY, BUT NOW OCCURS EVERY TIME I TURN ON THE RADIO OR NAVIGATION SYSTEM. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHILE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THEY STATED NO "CODES" WERE SHOWING ON THE COMPUTER. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND SPEAKING TO MECHANICS, I FOUND THAT THE RADIO IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER SYSTEM, BUT IS INDEPENDENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 TO 50 MPH AND RELEASING HIS FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR, THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE VEHICLE WOULD EVENTUALLY SLOW BACK DOWN TO NORMAL SPEEDS OF 30 TO 35 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THREE DIFFERENT DEALERS. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY, HBAC CONTROL MODULE, PUNCH VALVE AND CANISTER, ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE AND SPEED SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. AFTER HAVING EACH REPAIR DONE THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ACTING AS IT SHOULD. 2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 CREW CAB SMALL V8 2WD. ABS ACTIVATES AT SLOW STOPPING SPEED. NO ABS LIGHT COMES ON. STOPPING DISTANCE REDUCED. THIS OCCURS AT EVERY STOP. TRUCK BOUGHT WHITE ALLEN CHEVROLET DAYTON OHIO AND DRIVEN IN DAYTON OHIO AREA. PROBLEM STARTED AT 37000 MILES. *TR
2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 5.3L ENGINE. AT 40,000 MILES, THE CAMSHAFT AND A COUPLE OF LIFTERS WERE REPLACED DUE TO WEAR AND EVENTUAL TAPPING. AGAIN AT 90,000 MILES, THE CAMSHAFT AND A COUPLE OF LIFTERS (LOBE 4) WERE REPLACED DUE TO LIFTER WEAR AND BREAKAGE CAUSING ENGINE TAPPING. ON THE SECOND OCCURRENCE, AFTER THE LIFTERS HAD STARTED TAPPING (AND 900 MILES FROM HOME) A PIECE OF A LIFTER BROKE OFF AND CAUGHT IN THE OIL PUMP CAUSING IT TO STOP. I QUICKLY TURNED OFF THE ENGINE TO AVOID FURTHER DAMAGE. UPON THIS SECOND OCCURRENCE OF LIFTER FAILURE CAUSING THE CAMSHAFT TO WEAR, I FELT SURE THAT CHEVROLET AND GM WOULD REPLACE THE ENGINE WITH A SHORT BLOCK BUT I WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. GM AND THE CHEVROLET DEALER ADMITTED THAT A CAMSHAFT SHOULD LAST AS LONG AS THE VEHICLE BUT I AM ON MY 3RD CAMSHAFT IN THIS ENGINE BEFORE THE WARRANTY ENDED. ONE TRIED TO CONVINCE ME THE CAMSHAFT WAS PROBABLY OF A BAD LOT MADE BUT THESE 2 OCCURRENCES WERE TOO FAR APART FOR ME TO BELIEVE THAT A RECALL WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED DURING THAT TIME. THE OTHER (GM) TRIED TO CONVINCE ME THAT THE CAMSHAFT WORE OUT THE LIFTER BUT I DON'T BUY THAT EXCUSE EITHER. A NEW SET OF TIRES LASTED LONGER THAN THE ENGINE ON BOTH OCCURRENCES. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. I STILL HAVE THE DEFECTIVE ENGINE BLOCK IN MY VEHICLE WHICH CAUSES ME TO DOUBT THE ENGINE DEPENDABILITY AND WILL CAUSE A REDUCTION OF THE VALUE OF MY VEHICLE WHEN IT IS TIME TO SELL OR TRADE. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY SILVERADO CLASSIC THAT HAS ONLY 52890 MILES ON IT AND THE AC WENT OUT. MY FIANCE SAID SHE NOTICED AN ODOR OF ELECTRICAL FIRE OR BURNING WHEN THE AC STOPPED. MY KIDS WHERE IN THE TRUCK AND COULD HAVE BEEN HURT BY SMOKE INHALATION OR WORSE IF IT WOULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE. AFTER INSPECTING THE TRUCK I FOUND THE BLOWER RELAY IS MALFUNCTIONING AND THE CONNECTOR IS BURNT AND MELTED. NO FUSES OR OTHER "SAFETY" MEASURES PREVENTED THIS. I LOOKED IT UP ONLINE AND THERE ARE MANY CASES OF PEOPLE GOING THROUGH THIS. THERE ARE A FEW WEBSITES THAT SELL A NEW RELAY AND HARNESS THAT RANGE FROM ONLY $75 UPTO $160, BUT THIS IN NOT A FULL HARNESS AND CUTTING AND SPLICING NEEDS TO BE DONE. THESE PROBLEMS STARTED AS FAR BACK AS THE MID 1990'S, SO WHY IN 07 AND BEYOND HAS THIS NOT BEEN CORRECTED? *TR
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DOES A "CLUNK" SOUND (AS IF IT WAS SHIFTING TO A GEAR) IN "DRIVE" WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP. WHEN STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN OR A STOP LIGHT, APPROXIMATELY 15 SECONDS AFTER THE COMPLETE STOP, THE TRANSMISSION "CLUNKS" INTO WHAT SOUNDS AS IF IT IS SHIFTING INTO A GEAR (PROBABLY FIRST GEAR). THIS HAD BEGUN INFREQUENTLY, BUT IS NOW OCCURRING MORE OFTEN, AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK NOW. I HAD THE DEALER LOOK AT IT WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THEY STATED NO "CODES" WERE SHOWING UP ON THE COMPUTER. DURING REGULAR USE, DRIVERS SEAT BELT LATCH WONT ALLOW BELT TO BE FASTENED. SEAT BELT INDICATOR ON DASH NON OPERATING SINCE FAILURE. CAN PUSH RELEASE AND STICK BELT INTO LATCH THEN RELEASE THE RELEASE BUTTON, BUT SOMETIMES THAT IS VERY DIFFICULT. WHEN RELEASED AND VEHICLE IS STILL RUNNING, DASH INDICATOR IS NON OPERATIONAL. I RECENTLY HAD MY TRUCK SERVICED AND THE DEALERSHIP FOUND THAT ONE OF MY TIRES, A GENERAL AMERITRAC P245/70/R17 HAD BELT SEPARATION. I INSISTED THAT THIS IS A DEFECT. THEY HAVE YET TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. I A CONCERNED THAT THE OTHER TIRES, INCLUDING MY SPARE MAY INCUR THIS ISSUE AND LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. *TR
STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES WHEN APPLYING BRAKE PEDAL. THIS OCCURS WHEN BRAKING FROM SPEEDS OF 60MPH OR MORE. I HAD THE AGENCY INSPECT THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND ALIGNMENT, WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THEY STATED THE ALIGNMENT WAS CORRECT, AND DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM. I ASKED THEY INSPECT THE BEARING AND SHAFT OF BOTH FRONT WHEELS, BUT THE SERVICE FORM DID NOT SHOW THEY INSPECTED IT. PROBLEM PERSISTS TO THIS DAY. *TR
PASSENGER REAR WINDOW FALLING OUT DUE TO WARPED WINDOW FRAME. HAD TO REPLACE ENTIRE WINDOW BECAUSE THE FRAME IS HOOKED TO THE WINDOW. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE BLOWER RESISTOR ON THE HEATER UNIT WHERE THE SEVEN WIRES THAT ARE PLUGGED INTO THE RESISTOR OVER HEATED AND MELTED THE PLUG. THERE WAS ALSO SMOKE PRESENT UNDER THE DASHBOARD WHICH ALSO PREVENTED THE HEATER FROM OPERATING NORMALLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING $167 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. THE IS REQUESTING THAT THE MANUFACTURER ASSUME 100% OF THE COST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.

THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING NHTSA CAMPAIGN I.D. 07E106000 (WHEELS:CAP/COVER/HUB). THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
