THIS TRUCK DEVELOPED BIG OIL USE PROBLEM
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A VEHICLE THAT RAN A RED LIGHT. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BACK INJURIES AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED NECK AND KNEE INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V381000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT IT WAS UNABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 177,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE MISFIRED AND A SMALL TICK NOISE WAS HEARD UNDER THE HOOD. OVER TIME, THE TICK NOISE INCREASED IN VOLUME AND BECAME MORE OF A KNOCKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CAM SHAFT, RODS, AND LIFTERS NEEDED BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE THE TICKING NOISE, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT AND SEVERAL OTHER WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND THE CONTACT WAS DIRECTED TO NHTSA. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, A SUDDEN BANGING AND RATTLING NOISE WAS PRESENT COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT A PISTON IN THE ENGINE HAD BLOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO INDICATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WINDOW MODULE MALFUNCTIONED AND THE WINDOW COULD NOT BE OPENED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
THE DASHBOARD IS CRACKED IN THREE DIFFERENT PLACES. ONE NEAR THE STEERING WHEEL, THE OTHER ONE IS MID DASH AND THE LAST ONE IS NEAR THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. I NOTICED THIS FIRST AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND LATER IT HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. I WOULD HATE TO KNOW THAT IF THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WHERE TO GO OFF THAT CHUNKS OF THE DASHBOARD MIGHT GO FLYING AND INJURE ANYONE IN THE VEHICLE.

DASH IS SEVERELY CRACKED
THE DASH IS CRACKED AT THE LEFT CORNER OF AIR BAG. AFRAID OF PIECES OF DASH HITTING PASSENGER IF AIR BAG DEPLOYS.
REPLACED DASH PANEL SURROUNDING PASSENGER AIR BAG IS CRACKING IN SAME LOCATIONS AS ORIGINAL WHICH WAS REPLACED SEVERAL YEARS AGO WITH A CUSTOMER "CO-PAY" ! AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT WOULD RESULT IN SHARP SHARDS OF THE BROKEN DASH COVER EITHER DAMAGING AIR BAG OR PROPELLING THOSE SHARP SHARDS TOWARD PASSENGER(S), OR BOTH!
DASHBOARD HAS 3 LARGE CRACKS THAT OCCURRED WITH NO ACCIDENTS OR TRAUMA TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN CRACKS OCCURRED. THE CRACKS OCCURRED AT THREE DIFFERENT TIMES. THE TWO SMALLER CRACKS ARE AROUND THE AIRBAG HOUSING. (SEE PICTURES)
THE DASHBOARD IN THE VEHICLE IS CRACKING NEXT TO MY AIRBAG. IF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYS IT IS GOING TO SEND DEBRIS FLYING. THE DASHBOARD IS EXTREMELY WEAK IN THESE TRUCKS AND CHEVROLET SAYS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. THE CURRENT CRACK IN MY DASH IS APPROXIMATELY 1/8 TO 1/4 OF AN INCH DEPENDING ON TEMPERATURE. THERE IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT IN THE DASHBOARDS AND FROM WHAT I'VE READ IF YOU PAY THE BIG BUCKS FOR THE FIX IT WILL CRACK AGAIN EVENTUALLY. IT WOULD BE ONE THING IF IT WAS CRACKED IN A PLACE OTHER THAN NEXT TO THE AIRBAG. I HOPE CHEVROLET IS FORCED TO TAKE ACTION BEFORE AN AIRBAG DEPLOYS AND PIECES OF DASH GO FLYING THROUGH THE CABIN OF THE TRUCK.
TRUCK WOULD NOT START SO I PUT THE BATTERY CHARGER ON IT, ON SLOW CHARGE. ABOUT 2 HOURS LATER I HEARD A LOUD BANG, WALKED OUT SIDE AND BOTH AIR BAGS HAD DEPLOYED AND BUSTED THE WINDSHIELD.

On multiple occasions, while driving, my truck suddenly locked/unlocked/locked/unlocked doors, airflow changed from a/c to heat, Stabiltrak disengaged, Parking assist shut off, Traction Control turned off, lights shut off, engine stalled, and was unresponsive.

THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE SUPPORT CABLES ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE NEWS WAS ON CHANNEL 5 WMC-TV, MEMPHIS, TN. AND WAS SHOWING ANDY WISE'S "INVESTIGATES" ABOUT CRACKS IN DASHBOARDS. THAT IS HOW I OBTAINED THIS INFORMATION.

THE DASHBOARD WAS CRACKED APPROXIMATELY TWO TO THREE INCHES IN LENGTH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. AFTER HAVING DRIVEN VEHICLE A SHORT DISTANCE FOR AN APPOINTMENT, TRUCK WOULD NOT START AN HOUR LATER; HOWEVER, LIGHTS CAME ON DASH. I WAITED 10 SECONDS AND TRIED IT AGAIN, AND IT STARTED NO PROBLEM. THEN NO PROBLEM STARTING THE NEXT TIME BUT DRIVING AROUND TOWN THE RADIO START SHUTTING OFF FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS BEFORE COMING BACK ON. THIS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES, THEN AS I AM DRIVING, THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTS GOING HAYWIRE, LIGHTS FLASHING ON DASH WITH WARNING LIGHTS & MESSAGES GOING OFF ON DASH, THEN EVERYTHING BUT THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF (DASH LIGHTS, GAUGES, RADIO AND A/C), AFTER ABOUT 5 SECONDS EVERYTHING COMES BACK ON. I IMMEDIATELY DRIVE TO MY MECHANIC WHO HOOKED UP THE COMPUTER TO MY TRUCK AND SAID IT WAS MY IGNITION SWITCH. HE SAID HE COULD NOT GET ME IN THAT DAY AND ASKED ME TO BRING IT BACK THE NEXT DAY. SO THE REST OF THAT DAY I DID NOT HAVE ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS WITH IT. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND GOT THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED. WHILE THE MECHANIC HAD MY TRUCK FOR SEVERAL HOURS UNTIL I COULD GO BACK TO PICK IT UP, HE SAID HE STARTED IT MANY TIMES AND IT APPEARED TO BE FIXED. SO I LEAVE THE MECHANIC SHOP AND GO BACK TO WORK, THEN GET OFF WORK 2-3 HOURS LATER AND MY TRUCK WILL NOT START. AFTER ATTEMPING IT 3 TIMES, IT STARTED. I DRIVE HOME WHICH IS 10 MINUTES AWAY AND TURN THE TRUCK OFF AND BACK ON. ONLY WHEN I ATTEMPT TO TURN THE TRUCK ON, IT WILL NOT START. THIS TIME NOTHING HAPPENS...NO CLICKING SOUND OR ANY ATTEMPTS OF THE ENGINE WANTING TO START....NO LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIKE BEFORE. IT WAS 2 HOURS LATER BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET JUST LIGHTS TO COME ON THE DASH, THEN ANOTHER 30 MINUTES WENT BY BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET MY TRUCK TO START. THIS IS DAY 3 OF DEALING WITH IT AND I DROVE IT TO WORK AND BACK HOME WITH NO PROBLEMS. I CALLED MECHANIC WHO SAID SOUNDS LIKE A GROUNDING PROBLEM. I SAID SOUNDS LIKE COMPUTER SYSTEM.

I WAS ENTERING I-75 INTERSTATE RAMP AND MOVING ALONG WITH TRAFFIC AND ABOUT 70 MPH, THE DOOR LOCKS STARTED GOING UP AND DOWN ON THERE OWN, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDLES STARTED SPORADICALLY GOING UP AND DOWN THEN THEY SHOW NO SIGNS OF ANYTHING, THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH THE CHIME SOUND, THE STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON, THE TRUCK LOST A LITTLE BIT OF POWER WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE, I DID SMELL A BURNT WIRE ODOR. I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR AND STILL THE PROBLEM EXISTS. THIS HAS HAPPEN TWICE BEFORE THIS INCIDENT. THE STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND THE TRUCK RAN REALLY ROUGH. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE NUMBER 8 CYLINDER HAD OIL LEAKING INTO IT WHICH I SEE NO SIGNS OF BLUE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE TAILPIPE AND HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT FOR 5 MONTHS NOW WITH NO PROBLEMS EXCEPT WHAT IS GOING ON NOW WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THIS YEAR TRUCK AND IT SEEMS TO BE A WIDE SPREAD MANUFACTURE PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO SEEN PICTURES OF THE SAME YEAR TRUCK WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT ARE DESCRIBED ABOVE AND THIS LADIES TRUCK BURNED FROM THE DASHBOARD ALL THE WAY TO THE FRONT SEATS. A TOTAL LOSS. THIS HAS BEEN AN UNREASONABLY LONG TIME IN WAITING FOR THE REPAIR. I AM TOLD THERE IS NO FIX AND THERE ARE NO PARTS TO FIX MY VEHICLE. THE DEALER IS UNABLE TO PROVIDE ME WITH A COMPARABLE VEHICLE LOANER. MY REQUEST FOR A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE HAS BEEN DENIED. MY REQUESTS FOR RENTAL REIMBURSEMENT FOR A COMPARABLE VEHICLE HAVE BEEN DENIED. I HAVE INCURRED EXPENSES AND WILL CONTINUE TO INCUR EXPENSES DUE TO THE LACK OF USE OF MY VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, I AM A U.S. VETERAN. I HAVE A VETERAN'S ADMINISTRATION CONSTRUCTION LOAN FOR MY HOUSE AND I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO MEET THE DEADLINES DUE TO THE LACK OF USE OF MY CHEVROLET. I HAVE INCURRED, AND CONTINUE TO INCUR, ADDITIONAL EXPENSES TRYING TO ENSURE ALL MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT AND WORKERS ARE AT THE PROPERTY SITE."

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE DOORS UNLOCKED AND LOCKED INDEPENDENTLY AND THE GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FLUCTUATED RAPIDLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURES RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 66,000.
TAKATA RECALL- WAS NOTIFIED OF RECALL IN JULY 2015. CALLED JONES CHEVROLET OF WARREN PA IMMEDIATELY AND WAS TOLD NO PARTS WERE IN YET, TO CALL BACK. CALLED BACK MARCH OF 2016, AND WAS TOLD THE SAME. CALLED BACK OCTOBER 2016 AND WAS TOLD NO AUTHORIZATION WAS GIVEN TO JONES TO COMPLETE ANY AIRBAG REPLACEMENTS FOR ANYONE. THIS TRUCK WAS BOUGHT FOR A BUSINESS WITH INTENT IT WOULD BE USED BY INSTALLATION CREWS TO DRIVE TO JOB SITES ACROSS THE USA. IT HAS NOW BEEN PULLED OFF THE ROAD FOR SAFETY AND LIABILITY REASONS UNTIL THESE AIRBAGS CAN BE REPLACED.

HAVING VEHICLE WASHED A "SERVICE AIR BAG WARNING" LLUMINATED. SCHEDULED SERVICE AND DEALER DIAGNOSED FRONT IMPACT SENSOR DEFECTIVE. PART IS VISABLY DEFECTIVE WITH CRACKS AND DEFORMATION PRESENT. LOOKS TO HAVE BEEN DEFECTIVE FOR QUITE SOME TIME AS A LOT OF CORROSION IS PRESENT. CALLED GM CUSTOMER CARE TO INFORM THEM PART COULD HAVE BEEN DEFECTIVE FROM MANUFACTURER. THEY CLAIMED PART WAS REPLACED DUE TO WEAR. I STATED THIS WAS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A SAFTEY RELATED PART TO WEAR AT THIS VEHICLE AGE. PART # 15297468

THE DASHBOARD IS CRACKING AND FALLING APART. IT STARTED WITH CRACKING AROUND THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. IT IS NOW CRACKING FORWARD OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IF INVOLVED IN A CRASH AND THE AIRBAG DEPLOYS. I CONTACTED GM/CHEVROLET AND THEY SAID THEY CANNOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE, 183K. THE QUESTION IS, WHY ARE THE DASHES CRACKING AT ALL !
