TAKATA ARECALL A FEW YEARS AGO AFTER HEARING ABOUT A MAJOR AIR BAG DEFECT INVOLVING SEVERAL THOUSAND VEHICLES & THEN SOMETIME LATER WE WERE INFORMED THAT OUR 2008 CHEVROLET WAS ONE OF THE UNITS COVERED BY THE DEFECTIVE & DANGEROUS AIR BAG. ABOUT A YEAR AGO WE WENT TO OUR LOCAL DEALER HERE" BILL BUCK CHEVROLET" IN VENICE FLORIDA WHERE WE WERE TOLD THEY DIDNT HAVE THE SLIGHTEST IDEA WHEN WE COULD EXPECT TO GET IT REPAIRED. NOW THE LATEST I HAVE READ IS THE OLDER UNITS THAT ARE IN HOT, HUMID, STATES LIKE FLORIDA ARE THE ONES MOST APT TO EXPLODE IF I CAN GET ANY INFORMATION OR SHOULD I START RESEARCHING OTHER VEHICLES.

DASHBOARD CRACKED BY PASSENGER AIR BAG THEN TWO WEEKS LATER IT CRACKED OVER THE GAUGES.

CRACKS ON THE DASHBOARD SUDDENLY APPEAR AT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SIDE AND ABOVE THE RADIO CONTROLS. I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND ALWAYS TAKE CARE OF MY TRUCK, THIS IS JUST VERY POOR QUALITY AND POSSIBLE A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE CRACKS ARE NEXT TO THE AIR BAG! GM MUST REPLACE THIS AT NO COST FOR THE CUSTOMERS!

IF THE LEAK PERSISTED, THE POWER STEERING GEARS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE LEAK WAS NON-REPAIRABLE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED TSB NUMBER: 070232002. THE CONTACT STATED THE DEALER FAILED TO FOLLOW THE CORRECTIVE ACTION STATED IN THE TSB AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR RACK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.

STARTED USING OIL ALL CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON AN NOW IS KNOCKING MOTOR NO GOOD.AFM SUCKS.

THE ENGINE IS THE 5.3 AND IS SUFFERING FROM EXCESSIVE OIL LOSS, NORMALLY 2-3 QTS BETWEEN OIL CHANGES.
WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE ON 11/09/2016 AND ON 1/22/2017 THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT WITH NO INDICATOR LIGHT ON. TRANSMISSION MASTERS STATED THERE IS WATER IN THE TRANSMISSION DUE TO A FAULTY RADIATOR AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS BURNT.

THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN 2008 AND WITH 40,000 MILES THE DASH BOARD HAS CRACKED IN 3 DIFFERENT PLACES, 1 CRACK IS ON THE CORNER OF THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WHICH COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED JUST SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY.

I HAVE JUST OVER 150,000 MILES ON MY 5.3 LITER V8 I CONSTANTLY HAVE TO ADD OIL AND HAVE HAD TO SINCE I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK WITH 124,253 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I GENERALLY ADD 2 QUARTS A MONTH. I HAVE BROUGHT THIS ISSUE TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND HAVE BEEN TOLD RHIS IS ALLOWANCE. THE OIL PAN GASKET, REAR MAIN SEAL, VALVE COVER GASKETS, VALVE COVERS, THE VALVE SEATS, AND PISTON RINGS ARE ALL SHOWING DEGRADED SIGNS. I WORKED AS A MECHANIC FOR A SHORT TIME. I AM ALSO A RETIRED LOGISTICAL TRANSPORTATION OPERATOR FROM THE ARMY . I HAVE NEVER KNOW THIS TO BE IN ALLOWANCE. I UNDERSTAND THAT SOME OF THESE ISSUES ARE AT OWNERS RESPONSIBILITY. I JUST WANT TO MAKE IT KNIWN THAT EVERYONE I KNIW WITH THIS YEAR MODEL TRUCK HAVE TGE SAME EXACT PROBLEMS. UNFORTUNATELY THIS VEHICLE DOES HAVE A SALVAGED TITLE.

AT 84000 MILES HAVE CYLINDER 7 COLLAPSED LIFTER. THIS IS A KNOWN AND PREVALENT ISSUE ASSOCIATED WITH THE ACTIVE FUEL MANAGMENT SYSTEM (AFM). TOTAL REPAIR ESTIMATE >$3000. THIS ISSUE HAS AFFECTED MANY GM VEHICLES, ESPECIALLY TRUCKS, WITH THIS COSTLY REPAIR. ONCE THIS OCCURS IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME THAT THE SAME PROBLEM REOCCURES.

THE DASH ON THESE VEHICLES CRACK FOR NO REASON AT ALL. I'M A BIT WORRIED THAT IF AN AIRBAG WAS DEPLOYED THAT SOMEONE COULD BE INJURED DUE TO THE SHARP DEBRIS FROM THE HARD PLASTIC THESE DASHES ARE MADE OF. THERE IS NUMEROUS TRUCKS FROM GM WHICH THESE DASHES ARE CRACKING IN THE SAME SPOTS AND GM IS NOT RECALLING THEM WHICH THEY SHOULD. IT IS GOING TO END UP BEING A LIABILITY AND SOMEONE WILL GET INJURED DUE TO THERE CHEAP PLASTIC AND POOR ENGINEERING! MY TRUCK BARELY GETS DROVE AND SITS IN MY DRIVEWAY AND I HAVE CAME OUT TWICE TO FIND TWO NEW CRACKS OUT OF NOWHERE!
