TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD ABOVE THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WAS CRACKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DASHBOARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
SAME AS MANY OTHERS.CRACK ON DASH BOARD LEFT CORNER CONNECTING TO AIR BAG. CRACK ON TOP OF DASH BOARD ABOVE GAUGES.
THE VEHICLE FIRST STARTED HAVING ELECTRICAL TROUBLES WHEN WE WERE TRAVELING DOWN THE INTERSTATE. THE DOOR LOCKS WERE CYCLING RAPIDLY, THE GAUGES WERE BOUNCING ALL OVER THE DIALS, WE LOST POWER, THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH WERE FLASHING, AND THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING, AND WE WERE COASTING - ON AN INTERSTATE. WE PULLED OVER AND SHUT IT OFF FOR A FEW MOMENTS, STARTED IT UP AND TOOK OFF AGAIN, WITH NO TROUBLE. GOT HOME AND I LOOKED IT UP ON THE INTERNET, AND FOUND MANY SIMILAR/IDENTICAL STORIES. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THEY CHARGED US $200, AND THE PROBLEM SEEMED FIXED, FOR A WHOLE TWO MONTHS, JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE SAID IN THEIR POSTS. IT HAS DONE IT AT LEAST 7 TIMES OVER THE PAST YEAR, AND WE HAVE RESORTED TO PUSHING IN THE FUSES, WHICH WIGGLE LOOSE - AND IT SEEMS TO FIX IT, ALBEIT TEMPORARILY. UNTIL TODAY. IT STARTED HAPPENING ON THE INTERSTATE AGAIN, AND WE PULLED OVER, OPENED THE HOOD, TOOK OFF THE COVER, AND PUSHED DOWN THE FUSES, BUT NONE WERE LOOSE. IT ACTED UP ABOUT 3 MORE TIMES ON THE WAY BACK HOME, AND WE HAD TO TURN AROUND TO GET THE TRUCK IN THE DRIVEWAY BEFORE IT JUST DIED ALTOGETHER. WE MISSED AN APPOINTMENT WITH A CUSTOMER (WE DO CONSTRUCTION) BECAUSE OF IT. IT'S NOT SAFE TO DRIVE - WE'RE WORRIED ABOUT GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THE LOSS OF POWER. GM SAYS THEY'RE SYMPATHETIC, BUT THAT DOESN'T FIX IT. WE DON'T NEED SYMPATHY, WE NEED RESULTS! THEY ALSO SAY THEY'VE NOT HEARD OF THE PROBLEM - BULL----. THEY KNOW OF THE PROBLEM, THEY JUST DON'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THUS FAR, I DON'T THINK ANYONE HAS BEEN KILLED, SO THE BEAN COUNTERS AREN'T RATTLED YET. SO FAR, NO LAWSUITS THAT I KNOW OF - THEY GET TO RIDE OFF INTO THE SUNSET WITH OUR MONEY AND ALL WE GET IS A JUNK TRUCK THAT YOU CAN'T RELY UPON EVEN THOUGH IT ONLY HAS 58,000 MILES.
WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT IMPACT SENSOR WAS BAD. VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN ACCIDENT. HERE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. SOUNDS LIKE GM IS USING A DEFECTIVE PART. VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 20,000 MILES. COSTING ME $330 FOR REPAIR. CAN YOU CHECK INTO THIS ?
CRACKED DASHBOARD NEAR PASSENGER AIRBAG. CAN PRESENT A HAZARD IF PASSENGER AIRBAG DEPLOYS AND THE DASHBOARD FAILS IN A WAY THAT CAN SEND BROKEN PIECES, INJURING THE PASSENGER MORE SEVERELY DURING A COLLISION.
I GOT THIS TRUCK USED AT 94K MILES ON IT. IT WAS STILL IN STANDARD WARRANTY. I GOT THE OIL CHANGED STARTED GETTING THAT CLICKING/KNOCKING NOISE. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP THAT DID THE OIL CHANGED. THEY LOOKED INTO AND TOLD ME IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHEVY ENGINES IS THE VALVE LIFTERS BREAK AND NEEDS REPLACED ALONG WITH THE CAMS. IF I DRIVE TOO MUCH A POSSIBILITY TO ADD SHAVINGS INTO THE MOTOR AND TEAR IT UP. QUOTES FROM 3 DIFFERENT FRIEND RECOMMEND AUTO SHOPS FROM ALL OF THEM TO GET A NEW ENGINE OR GET RID OF THE TRUCK. I AM STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON IT. SO CAN'T DO THAT. I DID TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REFUSED TO HELP ME AT ALL. I WAS OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND GOOD LUCK. THAT SUCKS! I DID MAKE A SCENE TO THEM IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS. SINCE THEN I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH FINDING OUT THIS IS VERY MUCH A PROBLEM IN ALL CHEVY ENGINES DATING BACK TO 06. THE AFM, EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. AT ONE POINT CHEVY DID DO A RECALL FOR A YEAR IN 07-08. FOR THIS PROBLEM. BUT NOT FOR ANY OTHER YEARS I CAN FIND. IF THEY KNEW/KNOW OF THIS PROBLEM WHY NOT SOLVE IT? I HAVE TO FIX THIS TRUCK ITS MY DAILY DRIVER AND WORK VEHICLE. TOTAL HATING CHEVY RIGHT NOW AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY LOVE! I AM A SINGLE MOM AND I KNOW HAVE TO COME UP WITH A NEW ENGINE ABOUT 3,500 THEN ADD LABOR AND SUPPLIES ABOUT 6K TOTAL. NOT HAVE AND VERY STRESSED OUT.
WIFE DROVE TRUCK TO THE STORE IT WAS RAINING HARD THIS DAY. CAME OUT AND TRUCK WAS DEAD. JUMPED THE TRUCK AND TOOK IT HOME.LOOKED AT THE BATTERY. STILL HAD FACTORY BATTERY. REPLACED THE BATTERY. NEXT MORNING THE TRUCK WAS DEAD. JUMPED THE NEW BATTERY TRUCK STARTED . TURNED TRUCK OFF /COULD HEAR SOMETHING RUNNING IN THE FUEL TANK. FOUND OUT THAT THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL MODULE ABOVE THE SPARE TIRE. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE THIRD TIME. CREG SMITH AUTO GROUP. GALION OHIO 44833. COULD NOT GET THE SERVICE MANAGER ON THE PHONE. LEFT HIM A VOICE MAIL. NEVER RETURNED MY CALL. NEXT DAY CALLED FOR SERVICE MANAGER. THEY COULD NOT FIND HIM IN THE BUILDING. TOLD A MAN ON THE OTHER END OF THE PHONE EVERYTHING THAT WAS GOING ON. SOMETHING WAS DRAINING MY BATTERY AND SOMETHING WAS RUNNING.24/7. MAN TOLD ME HE WOULD CALL ME BACK. NEVER DID. LEFT FOR DEALERSHIP WITH THE TRUCK. TRUCK STOPPED ON ME IN MIDDLE OF THE ROAD HAD IT TOWED HOME. NEVER MADE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. I AM VERY UPSET WITH EVERYTHING NOW. I TURNED THE KEY AND THE TRUCK STUCK ON WAS STILL TRYING TO START AFTER I TURNED KEY OFF. . WAS AFRAID OF THE FUEL SYSTEM AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TOGETHER. .ONE SPARK COULD BLOW ME UP. NOW TRUCK WILL NOT START AT ALL. PLEASE HELP ME. I WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT I HAD TO COME TO A DEALER .ALL PARTS HAD TO BE REPROGRAMMED FOR THE TRUCK. I HAVE NO MONEY ! THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. Along with many, many other people. My pickup has the dreaded dash cracks. I would like for GM to step up and replace this free of charge.
WALKED OUT TO MY TRUCK TODAY TO FIND THE DASH WAS CRACKED RIGHT BY THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. WHILE THIS DOES NOT BOTHER ME THE FACT THAT IT COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYS DOES. SHARDS OF SHARP PLASTIC COULD EASILY FLY ABOUT THE CABIN IF AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED. GM NEEDS TO FIX THIS AND RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. THE PLASTIC IS CHEAP AND THIN AND FROM WHAT I HAVE RESEARCHED IT WOULD INCLUDE JUST ABOUT EVERY GM TRUCK MADE SINCE 2007.
I HAVE A 2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE BRAKE SYSTEM WENT OUT AND THE DEALERS REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THE 2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO ON MANY TRUCKS HAVE HAD PROBLEMS. I HAVE A 2009 CHEVY PICKUP AND EVERY TIME YOU PUT THE BRAKES ON THE TAILLIGHTS COME ON BUT THEY WONT GO OFF WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE PEDEL.NOW I'V CHANGED OUT THE SWITCH UNDER THE DASH 3 TIMES STILL THEY DO THE SAME THING SO I WENT BACK TO THE OLD SWITCH. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TELL ME PLEASE I NOTICE I WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS THIS PROMBLEM???????????
THE DASHBOARD IS CRACKED ABOVE THE AIRBAG AND ABOVE THE RADIO. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 60,000 MILES AND ACCORDING TO CHEVROLET IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THE FACT THAT IF I AM IN A WRECK THE DASH COULD PUNCTURE THE AIRBAG OR EVEN ANOTHER PASSENGER.

THE CONTACT CALLED MIKE ANDERSON CHEVROLET OF MERRILLVILLE (1550 E 61ST AVE, MERRILLVILLE, IN 46410, (219) 947-4151) WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE PART WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE BRAKE SYSTEM WENT OUT. THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY, BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS IS THE SECOND 2009 WITH BRAKE PROBLEMS. ....UPDATED 04/02/15 *BF
2009 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 LT HAS A BIG CRACK ON THE DASHBOARD ON TOP OF THE AIRBAG FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE.
LOCKS STARTED LOCKING/UNLOCKING. GEAR INDICATOR WAS GOING FROM DRIVE TO PARK. HEAT CAME ON BY ITSELF AND FAN WENT FROM HIGH TO LOW. SPEEDOMETER WENT FROM 70MPH TO 55 MPH WITH LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. HEADLIGHTS WERE FLASHING ON AND OFF. AFTER PULLING OFF I-75 AND GETTING TO A SAFE STOPPING AREA THE TRUCK WOULD NOT START AFTER TURNING THE ENGINE OFF. THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FELT EXTREMELY HOT: ESPECIALLY THE BATTERY. AFTER 10 MINUTES, THE TRUCK WAS ABLE TO START AND CONTINUE THE REST OF THE TRIP. AFTER DOING SOME INTERNET RESEARCH, THIS PROBLEM IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON VARIOUS CHEVY FORUMS AND CAR MESSAGE BOARDS. REPLACING THE MEGA FUSE AND BATTERY CABLES APPEARS TO SOLVE THE MAJORITY OF THE ISSUES AS IT DID IN MY CASE. THE DEFECTIVE MEGA FUSE AND BATTERY CABLES CAUSED THE EXCESSIVE VOLTAGE THROUGH THE CABLES, CAUSING EXTREME HEAT WHICH RESULTED IN SCORCH MARKS ON THE TERMINAL ENDS OF THE BATTERY CABLES AND THE INSULATION OF THE CABLES CHANGING COLOR AS WELL AS THE ABOVE ISSUES. I AM VERY GRATEFUL THAT AN ELECTRICAL FIRE DIDN'T HAPPEN WHICH I BELIEVE COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN THE CASE. *TR
WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE WITH LESS THAT 78K MILES AND TRANSMISSION FAILING. GM SHOULD BE FORCED TO STEP UP AND PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. VEHICLE IS A LEMON. I WAS DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND USED MY LEFT TURN SIGNAL ALL OF THE LIGHTS IS THE TRUCK STARTED FLASHING AND THE DOORS UNLOCKED AND LOCKED THEM SELVES. THEN TWO MILES LATER STILL IN HEAVY TRAFFIC I FLASHED MY LIGHTS AT A TRUCK TO LET HIM KNOW HE COULD SAFELY ENTER MY LANE AT WHICH POINT THE TRUCK CUT COMPLETELY OFF GOING 35 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND I AM LUCKY THAT NO ONE WAS FOLLOWING TO CLOSE. *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO INDICATED THAT A CRACK DEVELOPED NEAR THE POSITION OF THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.

THERE IS GRADUAL COOLANT LOSS OVER TIME WITH NO EVIDENCE OF LEAK FOUND. ON COLD START, THERE'S ALSO LIFTER OR PISTON TAPPING. WE SUSPECT DEFECTIVE CASTECH CYLINDER HEAD THAT MAY BE CRACKED. GM IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIRS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS DEFECT. *TR

I HAVE READ DIFFERENT ARTICLES ABOUT PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUES AND THE DEALER TELLS THEM IT'S TOO BAD AND THEY WILL NOT WARRANT THE REPAIRS. THIS TO ME IS A VERY VERY BAD SAFETY MATTER JUST BECAUSE IF YOU ARE IN A BAD WRECK AND THE AIR BAG DOES DEPLOY THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE THE DASH WILL POP THE BAG IF IT DOESN'T BLOW THE DASH BOARD UP AND SEND PLASTIC PROJECTILES FLYING ALL OVER THE PLACE POSSIBLY BLINDING OR KILLING YOU FROM THE SCRAPNAL PLASTIC PIECES. I CURRENTLY OWN A 2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO LTZ CREW CAB WITH APPROXIMATELY 96K MILES I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW SINCE PURCHASING A NOTICED A CRACK ON THE DRIVER SIDE DASHBOARD UNDER THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND ON THE PASSENGER SIDE NEXT TO THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. ALSO THE TWO DOOR HANDLES ONE BEING THE DRIVER FRONT AND THE OTHER BEING PASSENGER FRONT THE CHROME FINISH SEEMS TO BE DEFECTIVE AND NOT STAYING ADHERED O THE HANDLE AND COME OFF IN SHARP EDGES MAKING IT EASY TO CUT YOU HAND. AS THE DEALERSHIP KNOWS THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURE THEY USED ON THESE TRUCKS THE 2 ISSUES ON HERE ARE NOT JUST ON 1 VEHICLE BUT NUMEROUS SILVERADO TAHOES AND TRUCKS WITH THE SAME DASH AND HANDLES. IT SEEMS LIKE THEY POSE A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE HANDLE MAY CUT YOU AND THE DASH MAY PROJECT SHARP PIECES IF JAGGED PLASTIC IF INVOLVED IN A COLLISION. MYSELF AND MANY OTHERS FEEL THAT THE GENERAL MOTORS KNOWS ABOUT THE SAFETY ISSUES AND AS THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURES SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING AND FIX A DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS PRODUCT THEY PUT OUT WITH THE FORM OF A RECALL. ACCELERATOR STUCK DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE GOING 65M/H. SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES TOOK A GOOD 30 SECONDS BEFORE I COULD GET IT TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HAS NOT HAPPENED SINCE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO ONE MORNING ON MY WAY TO SCHOOL(LUCKILY I WASN'T TO FAR FROM HOME WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED) WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND THE DASH SHOWED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, SERVICE STABILITITRAK, AND SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL. WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WHEN MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE AND EVENTUALLY WAS NOT ABLE TO GO PAST 45 MPH. I PULLED OVER AND MY VEHICLE AND PARKED, SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, AND THEN STARTED IT BACK UP ONLY TO SHOW THE SAME ICONS ON THE DASH. AFTER TURNING AROUND AND SLOWLY RETURNING TO MY HOUSE I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND HAD TO TAKE MY WIFE'S CAR TO WORK. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM OCCASIONALLY SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW, BUT RECENTLY IT STARTED TO DO THE SAME THING ON A REGULAR BASIS. START THE TRUCK AND IT'S FINE, BUT GO TO SHIFT INTO GEAR AND THE SERVICE ENGINE, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL, AND SERVICE ABS LIGHTS AND MESSAGES COME ON THE DASH. TODAY, I PRESSED THE BRAKES WHILE DRIVING IT AND HEARD A CLICK WHEN I DID SO, SO I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED AND FOUND THAT IF I PUSH MY BRAKE PEDAL VERY FAR, MY BRAKE LIGHTS WENT OUT. THE BRAKES ON THIS SILVERADO DO NOT RELEASE. YOU HAVE TO PRESS THE GAS ABOUT HALF WAY DOWN THEN THEY WILL "POP" AND BECOME FREE ALL AT ONCE LUNGING THE VEHICLE FORWARD. YOU THEN HAVE TO PRESS THE BRAKE AGAIN DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF THROTTLE APPLIED. ONCE APPLIED AGAIN THE BRAKES WILL LOCK UP AND THE PROCESS REPEATS ITSELF. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IN TRAFFIC. IF THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING 20 MPH OR UNDER WHEN FOOT IS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR THE TRUCK WILL APPLY THE BRAKES ON ITS OWN PULSING AND SURGING. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN IN TRAFFIC AND TRYING TO NAVIGATE THROUGH PARKING LOTS AND ROADS WITH PEDESTRIANS. *TR

WENT OUT TO TRUCK TO MOVE IT AND NOTICED WIPERS UP ON WINDSHIELD, TRIED TO START IT AND ONLY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON , LOOKED UNDER HOOD TO FIND AN ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL COMING FROM FUSE BOX. DISASSEMBLED FUSE BOX TO FIND IT WAS MELTED AND FOUND EVIDENCE OF COMBUSTION, WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR X2 PIN N5 WAS MELTED AND CONNECTOR X5 PINS G1 H1,2,3,4 K 4,5,6 AND J 2,3,4 HAD MELTED THIS IS ALL THE DAMAGE THAT I FOUND. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
