APRIL, 2013 - TRUCK WAS PARKED OUT SIDE, AND I LEFT FOR A 70 MILE TRIP EARLY IN THE MORNING, AFTER THE DEW HAD FALLEN. JUNE, 2013 - A TROPICAL STORM SWEPT THROUGH THE AREA, DUMPING TONS OF RAIN; CAUSING THE HUMIDITY TO RISE A FEW HOURS LATER AS WELL AS CAUSING EVERYTHING TO BE MOIST/WET. BOTH EVENTS WERE EITHER IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS OR IN THE EVENING AFTER THE SUN WENT DOWN, AND INVOLVE WETNESS/MOISTURE, HUMIDITY, AND THE INABILITY TO "DRY" THE WINDSHIELD. PROBLEM: THERE IS A "CONDENSATION FILM" THAT FORMS ON THE WINDSHIELD DUE TO THE OUTSIDE ELEMENTS BEING MORE MOIST AND HUMID THAN THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. USUALLY, WHEN TURNING ON THE DEFROSTER, THIS WILL "DRY" THE WINDSHIELD AND MAKE THE CONDENSATION FILM GO AWAY. HOWEVER, THE DEFROSTER ON THIS MODEL DOES NOT "DRY" THE WINDSHIELD ON THE RIGHT SIDE (PASSENGER) OF THE VEHICLE. THE AIR COMING OUT OF THE DEFROSTER ON THE RIGHT SIDE IS NOT AS STRONG AS THE LEFT. THERE IS A CONSTANT CONDENSATION FILM THAT FORMS AND REMAINS. THE WIPERS WILL CLEAR THE WETNESS/MOISTURE AWAY, TEMPORARILY, BUT THE FILM REMAINS AND THE MOISTURE/WETNESS RETURNS. THIS MAKES THE VISIBILITY ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TRUCK NON-EXISTENT, AND WHEN TURNING A RIGHT HAND CORNER, OR ENTERING AN INTERSECTION, YOU CAN NOT SEE OUT OF THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THIS IS A LIABILITY AND ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN....... CONFIRMATION/MANUFACTURER KNOWLEDGE: I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER - TWICE - AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS "NORMAL" FOR THIS MODEL. I CONTACTED THE GM HOTLINE, WHO ESCALATED THE CLAIM TO THE ENGINEERING CLAIMS DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM, THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF IT, AND TOLD THE DEALER NOT TO DO ANY REPAIRS AT THIS TIME. I ALSO TALKED TO THE DEALERS HEAD MECHANIC WHO SAID THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS NUMEROUS TIMES IN THE PAST. IS GM WAITING FOR A DEATH BEFORE FIXING? PICTURES AVAILABLE... *TR
AT PARKING SPEEDS THE STEERING GETS LIKE IF POWER STEERING IS DEAD. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP WHO NOTICED PROBLEM AND SAID IT WAS "NORMAL" . PARKING CAN BECOME A RISKY MANEUVER. PS FLUID AND BELT ARE NORMAL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REVERSING WITH A HITCH WAS INSTALLED, THE BACKUP SENSOR FAILED . THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,600. HIT A DEER AT 47MPH ON LEFT FRONT OF VEHICLE. AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON WITH CODE B0052 DEPLOYMENT COMMANDED. NO AIR OR PRETENSIONER DEPLOYED. CONTACTED GM THEY SENT AN INSPECTOR OUT TO RETRIEVE CRASH DATA FROM RECORDER. THEY CONTACTED ME AFTER THEY RECEIVED THE INFO FROM THE INSPECTOR , AND SAID I NEEDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO DEALER TO DIAGNOSE CONCERN. THERE WERE NO CODES. THEY HAVE NOT TOLD ME IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE SDM THAT WAS REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER A WARNING CHIME ACTIVATED, IT WAS EXTREMELY LOW AND ALMOST INAUDIBLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE SOUND WAS TRANSMITTED THROUGH THE RADIO. THE RADIO WAS REPLACED BUT THE SOUND CONTINUED TO EMIT EXTREMELY LOW. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NO FURTHER REPAIR AVAILABLE TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. ONCE THE DEFROSTER WAS ACTIVATED, IT FAILED TO DEFROST THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD BLOCKING THE CONTACT'S VISIBILITY. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FLAP WAS STUCK AND MANUALLY MOVED THE FLAPPER. THE FAILURE RECURRED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000. MA 10/19/15 THE CONSUMER STATED THE PASSENGER SIDE COLD AND THE DRIVER SIDE WAS NORMAL. HOWEVER, AFTER ADJUSTING THE TEMPERATURE SEVERAL TIMES, IT WOULD RESUME NORMAL OPERATION AFTER 5-10 MINUTES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED WITHOUT WARNING AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME HARD TO TURN. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,289 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11,500.
AFM SYSTEM CAUSES CYLINDERS 1 AND 7 TO FOUL THE SPARK PLUGS ACTUALLY CAUSING THE PORCELAIN TO BREAK OFF IN THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER. THE AFM IS OBVIOUSLY AN ENGINEERING FAILURE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED AND REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. PREVIOUS FIXES DO NOT WORK. MODIFYING THE VALVE COVER TO CORRECT A DESIGN FLAW IS NOT A CURE FOR THE REAL PROBLEM, WHICH IS A DESIGN FLAW. #1 AND #7 FOUL OUT DUE TO THE COLLECTION OF CARBON DEPOSIT CAUSED FROM EXCESS OIL IN THESE CHAMBERS WHICH CAUSES THE MALFUNCTION ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON AND THE EVENTUAL CATALYTIC CONVERTOR FAILURE, POOR GAS MILEAGE AND POOR OVERALL PERFORMANCE, WITH EVENTUAL ENGINE FAILURE. LACK OF ACCELERATION, SLOW PERFORMANCE. FIRST NOTICED AT AROUND 30 TO 50,000 MILES AND PROGRESSIVELY BECAME WORSE. IDLE IS POOR DUE TO FOULED AND BROKEN PLUGS IN THESE TWO CYLINDERS AND THE ECU ATTEMPTING TO CORRECT THE ERROR THE BALANCE OF ENGINE IS THROWN INTO A UNBALANCED CONDITION CAUSING THE BUILDUP OF CARBON DEPOSITS IN THE ENGINE AND CAUSING THE SENSORS TO ATTEMPT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. PROBLEM IS UNIVERSAL AND NOT SPECIFIC TO A FEW SELECT VEHICLES BUT TO THOSE WITH THE AFM SYSTEM AND WAS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM SEVERE ENOUGH FOR GM TO CHANGE TO THE NEWLY DEVELOPED DFM SYSTEM WITHOUT ATTEMPTING TO ACTUALLY ADDRESS THE FLAWED AFM PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 (NA) CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AND BACKWARD AFTER STARTING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED IN COLD WEATHER. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SHIFT WITH AN EXTREMELY LOUD CLUNKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN FIRST GEAR AND TAKING THE FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO APPLY THE BRAKES, THE ENGINE RPM'S WOULD NOT DECREASE AND THE THROTTLE WOULD NOT RELEASE FOR APPROXIMATELY 3-4 SECONDS. THE FAILURE CAUSED ABNORMAL FORWARD MOVEMENT FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN FIRST GEAR AND SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE RPM'S INCREASED BY APPROXIMATELY 200 RIPENS BEFORE DECREASING. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AT THE DEALER BUT THE CAUSE OF THE DEFECT COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE MANUFACTURER CAME TO THE HOME AND DROVE THE VEHICLE. THE REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCED THE DEFECT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE BUT DID NOT IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE DEFECT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20. UPDATED 03/11/14*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED BY THE TIME HIS FOOT REACHED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ENGINE WAS HOLDING A CONSTANT 1400 RPM, RESULTING IN NOT ONLY TRYING TO SLOW THE MASS OF THE VEHICLE, BUT ALSO ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE AGAINST AN ENGINE LOCKED AT 1400 RPM. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THAT HE REMOVED HIS FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR AS A TEST AND THEN POPPED THE STEERING COLUMN GEAR SHIFTER INTO NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE GAINED ANOTHER 200 RPM FOR 3-4 SECONDS.
