During gear down-shift the rear wheels briefly lock up. This event can be duplicated easily at around 45mph, by slowing due to uphill grade or slowing traffic, then upon normal application of throttle to resume course the transmission shifts to next lowest gear (3 or 4, not sure) there occurs a brief and sudden horrendous jerk as the rear wheels lock & skid. The event lasts less than 1/4 sec, but happens multiple times per day as that speed/load condition is frequent. On occasion, the same can occur in a parking lot ~10mph, but isn't as violent. The first occurrence was at mileage 38,000; the vehicle now has 45,000 miles. This appears to be the same issue as NHTSA Recall No 24V-797, which does not include my vehicle's production year.
I was driving and received a check engine light with “Service ESC” and traction control was disabled. Performed diagnostics and found P0300, P0304 and P0204 all relating to cylinder 4 misfire and injector issues on cylinder 4. Truck has just over 47,000 miles and may be related to the lifter issues that plague this engine design.
I was going down the interstate and my car engine turned off and almost made me crashed into another car. Chevy dealership took it and after a month they said the engine is locked up so it needs a new engine now.
While attempting to pull out into traffic at a T intersection, the vehicle would not accelerate as I got into roadway and gave me a "Reduced Acceleration" notice. I was almost hit by a vehicle that was coming towards me. This has happened 3 times now. I have not taken it the dealer yet.
Vehicle started making an odd noise and was immediately taken to the dealer. Engine light did come on after the noise started. Dealer confirmed that there was an issue with the camshaft/lifters and that they have had to perform this repairs to 8 other trucks with the same 6.2L engine. (Original repair bill is attached). Dealer performs the repairs, takes the truck for a test drive and within a few miles the engine completely seizes up stranding the truck in the middle of the road. They believe it was a separate issue that caused the engine to seize up and now after 12k of repairs I will also need to purchase a completely new engine. Currently waiting on the price and availability of a new engine but was told I may have to wait a long time since this is such a common issue there aren’t many available. Would be more than happy to share additional Info as it becomes available. [XXX] I was heading home from work, driving on [XXX] near [XXX] 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 broke down. I lost all power in my vehicle, besides brakes and steering, and had to coast into the breakdown lane. After restarting my truck, I was able to drive another mile on the highway until I lost all power again on the off-ramp. My truck was broke down, halfway in the road, and I could not start it back up to try and move it. I remained there in the subfreezing temperatures with no heat in my truck for over 1.5 hours waiting for a tow through OnStar that never showed. A state trooper eventually pulled behind me because I was blocking traffic and then proceeded to call a different tow company which arrived about 15 minutes after he called. Since that day, my truck has been at Colonial Chevrolet in New london CT waiting for a “nationally backordered” 6.2L engine. 53 days without my truck that I use for me and my business partner’s construction company, and no ETA for when the new engine will be arriving. Vehicle was re-started after running into a store, vehicle made loud growling noise from engine compartment and Service Engine Soon light came on. Took truck to dealer for diagnosis and repairs. was called and informed That the Coolant control valve was defective and that NO parts were available at this time, and that the expected part arrival dat was the third week of January. When asked if the truck was drivable was told that it wasn't recommended due to engine overheating concern and vehicle going into LIMP mode and leaving me in an unsafe situation if traveling on a highway or at freeway speeds.
2023 Silverado with 10 speed transmission. 20K miles. On 11/30 received "Reduced Power" message, quickly followed by "Service Transmission Now Unable to Shift Soon", which was quickly followed by "Service Transmission". CEL came on. Transmission was shifting erratically, and not shifting into higher gears. Clearly a safety concern. Dropped it off at a local dealer on 12/1. Dealer service advisor contacted me 12/12, saying they were finally able to diagnose the problem and the transmission needs a new valve body. However, the valve body is on back order and there is no estimated time for when it will be available. The internet is awash with stories of the same issue with GM's 10 speed transmission in the light duty pick up trucks, leaving owners waiting for weeks, even months before their vehicle is repaired.
Faulty coolant control valve causing reduced engine power at highway speeds and reduced acceleration caused unsafe operation on highway. Was unable to safely maneuver to right lane on highway to allow faster traveling traffic to pass. Fortunately was only about 5 miles from home and was able to operate the vehicle in "limp" mode after traffic cleared. There was no warning just during operation check engine light and reduced engine power displayed on the drivers information center. The vehicle is available for inspection with the defective part because GM can't source a replacement despite occurring nearly eight weeks ago. GM has authorized the warranty repair and is currently at a Chevrolet franchise dealership awaiting repair parts. The manufacture is aware of the issue and has accepted a manufacture engine part is the cause of the issue.
The motor of our vehicle failed while driving on the interstate. The vehicle is at a dealership for repairs and should be available for inspection. With little to no warning our truck quickly went from 70 MPH to completely shut down. We had to go from the left lane on the interstate to the shoulder. In the process we were very close to a collision. We were also hauling our camper (2023 Forest River R-Pod 153, which has a dry weight of 3,421 lbs and we had no water in our fresh/grey/or black tanks). When we merged into the right lane our truck was going so slowly on the interstate that we were almost hit and honked at before we could get to the shoulder safely. The problem was confirmed by the dealership that is working on it. The motor spun 4 rod bearings and it was a total motor failure. The vehicle was/is still under warranty. The manufacturer, I would assume, has inspected it as we are receiving a full motor replacement. That motor has been and continues to be on back order with no ETA for 2 months now. There were no warnings in how the truck was running. There were no warnings on the dash, warning lights, or any indication that our truck was going to break down.
My trucks engine failed when I was driving on the highway with my family in the vehicle. The truck lost power and struggled to get off on the side of the road. Truck has been at the dealership since 25 Nov 2024 with still no diagnostics. GM is claiming they will not replace due to lift on the truck which has nothing to do with all these engine failures. Last contact from dealership was 27 Dec 2024.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the back-over prevention screen was displaying only two-thirds of the image of the rear of the vehicle. The dealer informed the contact that it was a common failure after a recent software update issued by the manufacturer. The VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that if the failure could not be duplicated, a proper diagnostic test could not be performed. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal to come to a stop, the contact heard an abnormal metal-to-metal sound coming from the front passenger-side brakes. Additionally, the vehicle was delayed in responding, causing the braking distance to be extended. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the dealer had replaced the front passenger-side brake calipers, rotors, and pads at approximately 19,000 miles. Additionally, the dealer had determined that the front driver-side brake pads had worn down to the metal at 20,000; however, the cause of failure was not determined. The front driver-side brake pads, caliper, and rotor were replaced. The contact stated that while coming to a stop on a separate occasion, an abnormal metal-to-metal sound could be heard coming from the front passenger-side brakes while the brake pedal was depressed. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the dealer refused to repair the vehicle. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.
1.Coolant control valve failure 3 times within 125,00 miles causing the engine to run hot without overheating indication, losing heater and defrosting capabilities unable to operate safely with windshield freezing, 2. in addition this also caused the engine to run hot enough to burn manifold gasket and cracking manifold creating carbon monoxide to enter through cab vents. $4500 repair cost-that in order to operate safely. 3. Finally on star safety features not available due to module battery dead only after 2 years gps, emergency call and everything else included in this safety feature unavailable $1,000 cost manufacturer or dealer will not recognize any of these due to warranties and expiration.
The sound on the Infotainment system, which controls the radio, apple car play and phone calls cuts out randomly and will not turn back on until the truck is turned off for 10 minutes or you pull over and park and do a reset in safe mode. This is a hazard as you can not make emergency call while driving or if you are on an emergency call while driving you are forced to go from hands free to holding your cell phone while driving. I reach out to Chevrolet several and brought the truck to 2 different dealerships and it is still not fixed.
When all the brake settings are set to factory and I back out of my vehicle onto the main road in front of my driveway the vehicle will occasionally detect something and lock the vehicle in park with emergency brake engaged. I then have to put the vehicle in drive all this while oncoming traffic may or may not be oncoming. The brake engagement happens if the corn in the field is blowing the right way or shadows from the tress. I had this into the dealer and also contacted the manufacture. They both told me to turn off all the safety features so this wouldn't happen or do not back out of my driveway.
My tailgate randomly opened while the vehicle was parked this fall on three separate occasions. I see there was a recall (N232426400) but it only included the Canadian equipment. Can we be certain the Canadian equipment wasn't used in my vehicle? If the Canadian equipment was faulty it's not a stretch to think the American or other equipment could be too.
randomly several times a day the google assistant comes on unexpectedly and starts to talk, via the infotainment system. She says "I cannot do that but in the meantime you can......"
After repeated software upgrades, the infotainment system continues to drop bluetooth calls causing the driver to pick up the phone manually. System will drop the connection several times during a 5 min call. This causes the driver to get distracted. Radio system has been updated twice under warranty. Problem is still not resolved.
While driving the Vehicle - the left turn signal stopped working. When dropping off at the dealership was informed it is a software issue. The issue went away for a couple of months and then the exact thing happened when using now the right turn signal. This provides no way of letting other people know who are headed towards my vehicle that i am turning lanes. The last incident was verified by the dealership. The headlight is not serviceable. No warnings occurred until after a few blinks where the front signals wouldn't work then indicated that the light was malfunctioning.
The starter did not disengage and caused engine failure. Loud screeching occurred while driving. Pull off road once noise was heard and truck needed to be hauled back to dealership.
GM Case#[XXX] #1 A- On [XXX] vehicle sensors disabled breaks while driving on [XXX]. B- Driver Displayed Alert. a- BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE 62 MHP TOP SPEED. b- TRAILER BRAKES DISABLED SERVICE REQUIRED. c- SERVICE ESC. C- Concerned by alerts proceeded to exit highway, the breaks where unresponsive. This required pressing break pedal to the floor. It took over 400ft for the vehicle to come to a complete stop. Fortunately no other vehicles were on the exit ramp, a major accident was avoided. D- On 10/30/2024 took vehicle to Bomnin Chevrolet West Kendall and explained break failure and provided pictures of driver alert messages. E- On 11/1/2024, 3 days after, Bomnin Chevrolet West Kendall Technician communicated that vehicle was mechanically fine and were unable to duplicate the problem. I accepted the vehicle back with 5,901 miles of use. #2 A- On [XXX] vehicle sensors disabled breaks again while driving on Miami city street. B- Driver Digital Displayed flashed following Alert Messages. a- SERVICE TRAILER BREAK SYSTEM. b- SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL. c- SERVICE ESC. d- CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. C- Having experienced this back in October, I knew what to expect. Unresponsive breaks, fortunately on 2nd occasion I was driving slower on a city street and was able to coast to a stop. D- On 4/10/2025 took vehicle back to Bomnin Chevrolet West Kendall for the same problem, break failure. I once again explained to Technician what happened, showed them pictures of the Alert Messages. E- Vehicle as of today, 5/18/2025, remains at Bomnin Chevrolet West Kendall for a total of 39 days and is yet to be repaired. Given the severity/danger of defective break sensors defects there is “nonconformity” that under the Lemon Law is defined as a defect or condition that substantially impairs use , value, or safety of the vehicle. These 2 incidents make this vehicle unsafe for drivers, passengers, and general public in proximity. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Vehicle goes into reduced power mode and prevents safe acceleration in traffic and is a major safety concern. The Coolant Control Valve is the issue which has been a problem in the Silverado for a few years. This part is also on national backorder.
All lights including dash lights turned off while driving at night on the interstate at 82mph. Not sure if my knees hit the light switch or not but not sure why even dash lights went out. Brought vehicle to local Chevy garage, there was no code and they couldn’t duplicate the incident.
I have found between the last two oil changes, I have had to add 1-1/2 to 2 quarts of oil. I first thought that maybe the oil was not refilled fully but after the second time I asked the dealer about this and they said that the engine may need up to 2 quarts of oil added between oil changes. SERIOUSLY?! I cannot believe this is normal for a new truck with less than 30,000 miles. There is no leaks in my driveway, no obvious exhaust smoke.
Headlights and wipers stopped simultaneously for 1 second
Three weeks ago, I exited my running truck and saw that the left front driving light wasn't working. Turned the turn signal on and it would not function either. At first the rear light was blinking normally. Then after about a minute it began to flash rapidly and the display showed, check left front turn signal. Shut it off and unit worked after restart. Two weeks later, did the same thing. This time it did not reset until the next day. It seems to malfunction when the headlights are activated, and I noticed there is a unit mounted on the back of the headlight assembly that appears to control it and the headlights, as it is one unit. I recorded it on video, and when I took it to the dealer, they were able to confirm the issue. They are going to replace that assembly. After some research, I am discovering that this is beginning to look like a common issue as others that own 2022 model years and up report the same thing. My vehicle has only 12,600 miles on it, and I have found people with 2024 GMC trucks also experiencing it. This is concerning as it is a safety issue with nonfunctioning turn signals or running lights. As I stated before, the first time it happened there was no warning that the driving light wasn't working nor was there a warning the first time it happened that the front turn signal wasn't flashing for over one minute. Most times your signal isn't on for that period of time. Mine is warranted but some people said that without proof; the dealer can't duplicate the issue, so they aren't replacing it. Out of warranty the lighting unit costs about 1,500.00 and it isn't something an average individual can replace. GM also charges a 200.00 core charge on these. The service manager called it a restricted item. I would appreciate your looking into this to see how widespread this might be. I'm assuming it has something to do with the headlights being on and the heat generated by them causing the failure, but that is just a guess. It is a safety issue though
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power and decelerated to 20 MPH. The check engine warning light illuminated with the messages, “Reduced Acceleration – Drive with Care/Service Emission Systems” and “See Owner’s Manual” displayed. The contact drove the vehicle to the residence and the vehicle was then towed to the to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the wiring harness was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact linked the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: N222391510. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 47,295.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle lost power, jolted, and then stalled. The vehicle rolled while on a hill. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle stalled again. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and a transmission-related error code was reset; however, the warning light reappeared. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and assisted with the cost of the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
My 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has experienced two separate major drivetrain failures — complete transmission and turbo replacements — within two years of purchase, both during peak use months. The second repair kept the vehicle in service for nine months with no ETA provided until escalation. The repeated failures have rendered the vehicle frequently unusable, caused significant business loss, and represent more than normal wear. Documentation of repairs and dates is attached.
On approximately 6 occasions over the past 12 months, either the right front turn lamp or left front turn lamp failed. Most recently this occurred on 8/27/24. When this happens, the entire front head lamp does not work. A warning on the dash shows as "Check Left/Right Front Turn Lamp" and the audible turn signal click is faster than normal. Turning the truck off for approximately 15 minutes fixes the issue until it returns again at random. Having functioning head lamps and turn signals is critical to safely operating a vehicle.
In August 2024 my 6.2 Chevrolet Silverado motor blew up. I was driving uphill when all the sudden it made a very loud sound like I had floored it and I had not. The engine revved really, really really high red line then it flashed across my dash to turn off the motor and the vehicle just shut itself off.. It left me stranded in the middle of the road and had to be towed to a Chevrolet dealer. It took them approximately 3 weeks to diagnose it as a catastrophic engine failure. And several more weeks to replace the motor, radiator and coolant lines. There was engine pieces in the radiator. Chevrolet refused to reimburse me my full cost of the rental that I had to get until they approved me a loaner..
I was driving on the interstate when the power steering failed. I was on a straightaway so I was able to force the vehicle to the side of road and have it towed. If I was in a corner, I would have crashed. It was repaired at Chevrolet Dealership.
This weekend while traveling on I95N I got into a wreck with automatic cruise control on. I had been in stop and go traffic for about 20 minutes and was following behind a Gatormade hauling trailer for well over a mile with no issues. Suddenly, from a dead stop, the truck attempted to accelerate to its preset speed of 50 mph. I was only one car length away from the trailer and wasn't covering the break. By the time I got my foot on the break, I slammed in the back of the trailer. At no point did the emergency brake warning or any alerts pop up.
Occasionally, from the time the vehicle is started to a while after shutdown the left front turn signal / DRL / parking light does not work. Upon turning on the left turn signal, the driver information center says check left front turn signal lamp. The rear turn signal flashes rapidly and the front doesn't illuminate. I've had the vehicle to the dealer 3 times and counting. Twice they confirmed the problem. Wires were inspected and a connection to the turn signal assembly was greased and researes. The next step is to replace the turn signal / headlight assembly.
On our road trip back home driving on the highway using the adaptive cruise control set to the speed limit and it’s night. Clear night and no traffic or rain. The truck applied brakes hard and dropped about 12 miles per hour. Another hour later same thing happened. I was fortunate to avoid the car behind me. There was nothing on the road ahead of me.
Automatic Transmission Valve Body Failure. It is available for inspection. Safety issue: Lost high gears and low gears while towing a camper trailer, speed limited. Dealer confirmed problem and ordered parts. No advanced notice of the problem. Transmission experienced a hard shift and check engine light and warning message appeared. Dealer reports new part GM Part #24047995 is unavailable nationwide due to so many other customers with same problem. No timeframe given of when a part could be available.
Truck started hesitating for no known reason. No check engine light, nothing. Shortly thereafter, truck stopped shifting after I pulled out into a very busy intersection. Would not move briefly. I quickly put it into park, then neutral, then drive again, and was able to limp out of the intersection, just missing oncoming vehicles. I was then able to barely limp to dealership. Check engine light finally came on just before I got there. They say defective transmission cooler seal and lines. I have no idea. Truck in shop for 5 weeks and no idea of when it will return. According to various Chevy/GMC forums, it's happening to others. Some have had entire transmission replaced in a car less than a year old. Not being able to exit an intersection is a problem.
Forward collision system will light up and state it is not functioning. Will reset once truck is turned off for a bit. Stereo audio will intermittently cut out and stereo needs to be reset to hear audio again. Apple CarPlay will intermittently not connect
As also reported by another owner in NHTSA ID Number: 11602844, I have found several times that while driving on I-80 at or near speed limit with adaptive cruise control on and no traffic, no weather, dry pavement, that the truck suddenly applied the brakes hard. There was nothing on or upcoming in the road, the sides of the road were desert and near the road was clear. Over the course of the past year this has happened probably half a dozen times.
Engine failure while driving without warning (lights)which caused catastrophic damage to Engine and needed to be replaced
On June 16, 2024, my vehicle stalled on a 70 mph interstate. I was able to get to the side and attempt to restart. After ten minutes, the vehicle restarted and I received a message of "Low Battery". I drove it immediately to the dealership and advised service. The next day I called the dealership for a status update and was advised the engine seized. The vehicle had 3,212 miles on it at the time. The dealership ultimately received permission to replace the engine which took about three and a half weeks. The vehicle is simply not the same and has several issues since. One was a No Start and No Power.
The way the hood on my truck was designed should be modified. If the sun hits my hood it about blinds me, the glare is very bright. One time I couldn't see the road for a minute or two. The sun visor does not help or solve the problem
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 15 MPH, the brake pedal depressed to the floorboard and failed to stop as needed. No warning lights appeared on the instrument panel and the forward collision avoidance feature failed to operate as needed. Due to the failure, the contact crashed into another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. Neither the contact nor the passenger sought immediate medical attention; however, the other driver did state they would be seeking an X-ray. A police report was filed. Due to the accident, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it remained in their possession. The dealer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.
Took truck to dealer for oil change 05/28/2024. After service was completed truck was returned with Forward Collision Avoidance warning light activated. Spoke with service advisor who had no idea how to reset sensor. They cleaned windshield at camera location and still not reset. Took vehicle home and discovered cruise control was also disabled. Had to make another service appointment to have Forward Collision Avoidance and cruise control repaired.
at about 20k miles the valve body went out. When coming off the brake and pressing the gas the engine was jerking. The engine light came on and then started to downshift. The truck was towed to the dealer and they said a few days later it was the valve body. All the miles of the truck were highway miles and no towing was ever done on this truck.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ductwork above the brake pedal disabled the contact from rapidly depressing the brake pedal. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light, the engine turned off and the instrument panel became inoperable. The vehicle was restarted; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, the message "Tailgate Open" was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and, upon inspection, noticed that the tailgate was closed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. An employee at the dealer closed and opened the tailgate several times until the message disappeared. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, the radio stopped functioning, the driver's door unlocked unintendedly, and the driver’s side seat belt failed to retract as intended. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the seat belts had failed. The contact seat belts were replaced. Most recently, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. In addition, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle failed to respond. After a while, the vehicle was able to stop. The message "BRAKE System Failure” and “Replace Brake Pads and Rotors" was displayed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.
While driving approximately 20MPH and entering a left turn lane, I activated the left turn signals and discovered the driver side front turn signal was inoperative. A cluster message appeared indicating the left front turn signal was inoperative along with hearing the audible double speed "tick tock" indicating a bulb failure. When I arrived home, I also discovered the daytime running lamp (DRL) on the driver side, which shares the same portion of the lamp as the turn indicator, was also inoperative. On the next drive cycle the fault cleared itself. A non-functioning turn signal increases the risk of a vehicle crash. This is also a non-compliance with FMVSS 108, Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment. VOQ's 11584694, 11582809, 11577734, 11566682, 11561217, 11555917, 11548335, and 11528583 describe a similar failure and are happening early in the vehicle's life.
